This wonderful pink silk voile dress is from the Nina Ricci Boutique ready to wear line. When hunting for a reference to date it by, I happened across a photo from 1976 that has a Ricci dress in a very similar print, color and ruffle trim finish. The Ricci atelier was launched in Paris in 1932, Ricci retired from designing in the early 1950s and then Jules Francois Crahay headed the design team until he left for Lanvin in 1963. That makes this dress land in the era of Gerard Pipart who took over from Crahay and stayed on with Ricci until 1998.

This wonderful dress is made out of a fine silk voile, one of my favorite fabrics as it holds color exceptionally well and it is very light in weight but still has a touch of structure to it. This unique combination creates volume where it is required, without adding unnecessary bulk. The dress is very pretty & feminine and  it is cut with a simple hostess dress feel to it which was a popular look for that time period. The bodice has a small ruffle finish around the V of the neck and is left with a touch of transparency through the upper shoulders, back and sleeve. The waist is seamed and under that the skirt billows out with light and airy fullness. The skirt is made of yards and yards of silk that drapes perfectly into place as it flows to the ground. The back of the skirt is cut just slightly longer then the front which gives it a pretty sweep.  I love the little ruffle trim that sits at the end of each cuff and also details the waist and lower tier of the skirt, effectively tying together all the elements of the dress. It is very pretty and feminine. Excellent condition

The dress is fully lined in a pink silk through the bodice and skirt and closes with a  back painted metal & nylon zipper. Each sleeve zips to close.

This Geoffrey Beene wrapped coat is fabulous with its bright contrast of that hot pink silk satin against the heavy black silk base. The collar, cuffs and the inner edge of the coat are finished with  a vivid pink and that shot of bright color combined with the dramatic lines of the coat are wonderful. The coat wraps to close and is cinched in at the waist. The skirting below the waist flares out to an extreme fullness that is very flattering on. The collar is cut to be oversized and the color draws the eye to create a strong focal point. I love that each cuff is finished with that same pink fabric. Both the collar and cuffs are top stitched in rows for a little extra detail. It is cut so that you could get away with wearing this on its own as a dress, but if you do layer it over something else, you will love the unexpected pop of color that runs down the inner edges on both sides at the front. It is just gorgeous and a wonderful example of his earlier work. Excellent overall condition with notes to review below.

Fully lined in a black silk and closes along the waist with hook & eye. Hand finished through out and extremely well made. It presents as being in great condition but has some tiny things to note. There is a touch of wear to each cuff where the fabric folds (see photos) and there is a touch of fading/discoloration along the top of the collar from improper storage (photoed) and where each cuff folds. Otherwise excellent. Priced accordingly. Note the pink is ore a Barbie pink in person and better then how it photoed.

I have had a version of this dress in a different print and I love this brighter, bolder jersey version just as much. A similar dress is part of the permanent collection at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and was displayed in the 2013 exhibit "Hippie Chic.  Other versions of the dress also reside in The Met's collection. That one has with a shorter skirt length and different pattern. The cut is otherwise the same.

The Fall/Winter 1971-72 collection took its inspiration from the Medieval time period and many of the pieces in the collection had this influence, including this one. Sant' Angelo was the winner of two Coty Awards and two Council of Fashion Designers of America honors and was known for his innovation and pioneering use of stretch fabrics. Here we have a dress that really showcases his love of color and his mastery of mixing color with print. The fabric he chose for the dress is a very wearable and easy to care for jersey. It has a touch of a stretch to it that makes it very comfortable to wear. His signature piping finishes the neck and the multiple patterns are masterfully layered over each other in tiers through the body and over the waist. The sleeves are amazing and made of two tiers of fabric that sit over each other to mimic the tiers used on the body of the dress. The mix of that clear, true red with that brilliant blue is amazing and even better on person. Sant' Angelo once said, "I am not a fashion designer but an artist who works in fashion engineer of color and form". This dress shows us how true that statement was. Excellent overall condition with a note to review below.

Unlined and closes with a back painted, hand set metal zipper. I see a couple of tiny nicks on the front skirt. They are lost in the pattern and are stable so have been left as found. There is minor fading along the shoulders and on the sleeves and sides.

This ivory silk Malcolm Starr dress is stunning. It has Elinor Simmons name on the label as well who was a young designer that Malcolm brought in to the company to design a higher end line for him in 1965. She eventually left in 1972 giving us a window within to date her work for the label from. Everything about this dress suggest the 1960s.

I have had versions of this dress before in a shorter length but I truly love this skirt length that would fall somewhere between ankle and mid-calf depending on your height. It allows for the perfect coordinating shoe to peek out and just a glimpse of the ankle to show. It is made from is a beautiful ivory silk with a very subtle weave to it that gives it just a touch of texture and enough weight to it that it holds that gorgeous line you see. The dress is cut with an almost baby doll silhouette to the bodice and below that the skirt widens out beautifully as it reaches the hem. The waist line is high and the collar and front are heavily embellished. The work down to the shoulders, collar and down the front is incredible. Sparkling rhinestones and crystals are placed and attached by hand and and among a curving design made up from silk cord that is also hand placed. These catch the light beautifully and perfectly offset the ivory. The perfect finishing detail is that the along each side seam of the front skirt are little hidden pockets. Excellent overall condition with one condition note to review below.

Fully lined in a white silk and closes with a back painted metal zipper. I see no missing stones. Hidden snap under the front V that you can close or leave open. It was a touch too small on the dress form and will sit better on the right sized girl. Front pockets along the seam. Hand finished. There is a very faint water mark on the back left shoulder (photoed and looks worse on the shot then it does in person - it is fainter in person) and one tiny, faint yellowish mark on the front left below the pockets. Priced at a good deal lower then it would normally be but I feel it is wearable as is still as these are barely noticeable once on. The color is more ivory on person - closer to the detail pics then the full length ones. Better in person overall.

Pauline Trigere is one of my favorite designers and I love that she always has some quirky little touch in most of her work. For this dress that detail is found in the sleeves which are just incredible. They are cut very full near their base and then caught up and under so you get even more fullness. The silk used to construct the dress is beautiful and I love the contrast of colors between the green and the bright, patterned stripes of color. The neck line is high with an attached scarf finish that you can wrap and tie as you wish. The top is cut loose and easy to skim over the bodice and the waist left slightly full with an elastic, comfortable finish to give it some shape. It has its original belt to add more shape and the finish of the belt gives a nice contrast. The skirt is cut so that it flares out as it nears the hem and I love how the stripes are set to meet at the center seam from neck to hem. The dress presents as excellent but does have some small condition issues described in the notes below.

Unlined and closes with a metal and nylon zipper at the back. Padded shoulders and attached ties at the neck. Elastic through the waist  and bias cut silk allows for some flexibility in sizing. The belt is in a grosgrain ribbon base and closes with a  combo of flat hooks and a snap. There is slight fading to the shoulders (the worst one is shown in photo 9) and some light marks in the fabric at the front (photo 8). The pattern and color help to hide these and it is otherwise perfect. Priced dramatically lower as a result. This dress has tons of solid wear to it still. The final included detail photo (10) shows sleeve construction

The Spring 2005 Prada show is one of the label's most iconic and recognizable. In her review of the show, Vogue's Sarah Mower stated: "Just when the whole fashion world has turned ladylike—thanks, of course, to Miuccia Prada—she's tossed it all in the air, looking for a certain freedom. "A vague idea of birds; birds of vanity, like peacocks, parrots, and swans," was a starting point in her restless search for change, she explained. "I also wanted to move toward something more young and sporty, tall and narrow.... In broad terms, the news from Prada included a different silhouette (short hemlines, worn mostly with flat sandals), a return to one of her favorite palettes (brown-ochre-rust), and as always, lots of artful eccentricity (peacock feathers, flowerpot hats, Bakelite digital watches). There was also a Jamaican dance hall vibe, with reggae on the sound system, Rasta stripes in the knitwear, and Caribbean crochet in the raffia hats and cardigan coats. The birds really took flight for night, in the form of skirts overlaid with peacock feathers, dresses covered with digitalized feather prints, and pretty chiffon gowns whose fan-like pleats hinted subtly at dove's wings."

This is Look 22 from the show and is absolutely infused with that Prada vibe. Here we see her masterful hand at mixing textures with color. The top of the dress is a combination of eggplant and purple, anchored by an almost startling strip of red at the waist. A bright purple grosgrain ribbon details the sides of the bodice. The skirt is a combination of a deep brown and a moss green pleated & textured silk chiffon. The cut is micro mini short and the skirt has lots of movement and it is just gorgeous. The silk chiffon it is made from is feather light and it is given shape and structure by the addition of two rows of horizontal stitching placed over the hips. The top is a light weigh wool and I love the contrast of fabrics. The one shoulder silhouette balances the length of the skirt nicely and the unusual color combination is fabulous.  Excellent condition

I love this dress by Thierry Mugler with its sculptural bodice that gives it a sense of high drama. That is in direct contrast to the white cotton pique that it is made of and it is this contrast that makes the dress so fabulous. It is also a wonderful summer piece that still feels fresh and of this season despite its vintage heritage. The bodice is fitted and sculpted with that fabulous curving cut out at its edge. It has interior boning to help mold it to your frame and the waist is cinched in. The skirt below is cut in an asymmetrical line at its hem that has the front center point dipping lower then the sides or back do. It is also extremely full with yards and yards of fabric in it and the sweep extends beyond that of a full circle skirt. The fabric is a chic little waffle weave pique cotton and its a quirky little play on the summer dress that is very flattering. Excellent condition with a tiny note below.

Lined through the bodice with the same fabric and boned for support. It closes with a series of  snaps up the back. Pockets on each hip. There is the slightest tiniest hint of yellowing to the fabric that is a from natural aging. It does not really affect the dress but mentioned for accuracy.

Laura Ashley was a Welsh fashion designer who started making Victorian style, printed headscarves in 1953 with fabric she printed herself at her kitchen table. By 1961, she and her husband had opened their first shop, and by 1966 started to make the dresses she became known for. This dress is from a little later in their timeline and the date was verified by a follower on my Instagram who wore a pink version in 1985 to their prom.

It has that nostalgic feel to it that all the best of her work has. It is an interesting combination of a more formal silhouette but the fabric it is made from is a cotton. This gives it an interesting mix. The dress is strapless with a fitted and boned bodice that is finished with a small ruffled that runs around its upper edge. It dips into a sharp V at the front waist and then under that is one of the most fabulous skirts I have seen. I have styled it over a light crinoline but it has room to be far fuller even then how it looks and even with no crinoline the sheer volume of fabric gives it a wonderful fullness. It is made up of two layers, the inner layer that is a solid white cotton with a deep ruffle hem hidden under the top layer and then over that is a second layer of cotton. That top layer has that same ruffled edge finish as the bodice dies and is gathered up into little lifts all the way around the skirt. Each lift is finished with a tied bow and another bow ties just above that. This would make a gorgeous summer party dress, or even a wedding dress for someone not looking for a traditional gown. Excellent condition 

The bodice is lined in the same fabric and boned for support. It closes with a back metal and nylon zipper. It appears to have been worn very little if at all. The white is crisp and true.

This dress is from a recent Alexander McQueen collection and the original retail was well over 4K. The dress is gorgeous. It is made from a beautifully weighted silk satin that has that same liquid feel the the best of the 1930s pieces did that were made from this same fabric. Like those dresses of the thirties this is also cut on the bias but with a more shaped silhouette. It is cut to flow over the body with a nipped in waist for shape and a V neckline at the front. The skirt flows and hugs the hips and then flares out in a wonderful soft draping at the lower hem that gives you fabulous movement when you walk or move. The sleeves are cut with a full kimono style drop sleeves. This adds a high sense of drama to the dress. The perfect finishing touch are those wide cream silk bands that run around the bottom hem of the skirt and around each wide cut sleeve. That touch of graphics with the contrast between the black and cream is spectacular. Excellent condition.

The fabric is self backed and it closes with a low set, hidden set zipper at the back and a hook & eye at the top of the back opening. Bias cut but the waist is seamed and has no give. The inner edge of the seam is open like a traditional kimono sleeve. Note that it would fully zip at the back on a girl a bit smaller then my dress form. Tagged a modern 38. It appears to have never been worn, or worn very little

This dress has a bit of a Loris Azzaro Feel to it with that wonderful jewelry collar. At first glance you would almost think that it was one of his his signature pieces. It has that same looped keyhole type neckline with heavy embellishment to it like some of his most famous dresses did. This slightly simpler version is made from a fluid silver-grey jersey that drapes fantastically. The color perfectly off-sets the detailing at the neck. It is gathered up and around the bodice with the gathers there converging into the center keyhole. The upper shoulders and back are left bare. The skirt cascade from just below the bust line to flow to the floor, gently widening out as it nears the hem. The neckline is of course, the center piece of the dress. It curves up and around the neck and the straps are completely encrusted with densely set faux pearls, rhinestones and beads. Presents as excellent condition with a small note to review below

Fully lined in a matching grey silky rayon and closes at the back with a painted metal and nylon zipper. There is some light scuffing/grubbiness along the hem and on the inner neckline and the occasional very faint mark on the jersey. A couple of beads missing near the hook and eye of the halter that you can see in the label photo. Nothing that detracts when on but present when laid out flat and inspected.

Janice Wainwright launched her own label in 1970 and continued designing into the 1980s. Her work in the late 1970s and 1980s simplified in terms of embellishments and embroidery but she still used amazing fabrics and the better of her later pieces, like this one, explored drape and bias cuts. This dress is made from a beautiful red silk that has a dot pattern worked directly into the silk. The dots seems to be fused onto the silk and each has the slightest but of a 'fringe'; around the outsides. This gives them a bit of a 3D quality and adds to the texture of the dress. The construction is very interesting. It is all bias cut with a strong nod to 1930s lingerie in how it is cut. It floats over the body with a deep plunge at both the front and back. You see the classic angled seams of the thirties through the waist and in how the skirt is attached. This allows it to flow over the body and never feel very tight but still highlight every curve. It ties to close at the top of each shoulder and I would bet that you could figure out different ways to tie and wear it. It is beautiful. Excellent condition with a small note below

Fully lined in a red silk chiffon that is also bias cut. It slips on the wear and ties at the stop of each shoulder. The bias cut allows it to fit a range of sizes and it could easily be altered for the perfect fit on a smaller frame. It is tagged a vintage UK12, US10, FR40, IT44. There is a small repair near the hem at the back

The Polly Peck company started up in the 1940s by a British husband and wife team, Raymond and Sybil Zelker. Sybil designed the clothing and her husband handled the business end of things. By the late seventies - just after the time period this dress would be from, they sold out to a large investment firm. This dress is from when they still managed the company and Sybil was doing the designing.

The dress is a pretty little wrap in a black synthetic crepe that will hold up extremely well to traveling and  is hand washable. That makes it that perfect dress to throw into a suit case and know it will be good to wear upon arrival no matter where you land in the world. It is suspended by tiny little straps and the wrap gives you a low plunge at the front and an expanse of skin at the back. There is a gathered detail at the waist and long, skinny attached ties that allow you to cinch it in for shape. The skirt curves up and around where it wraps and when you walk or sit you get a flash of leg. It is simple, but kind of perfect, and still high on impact. Excellent condition.

Koos Van den Akker started his career as an apprenticeship with Christian Dior in the late 1950s. This early exposure to Haute Couture shows in pieces like this. This particular dress is exceptional and a real testament to his beginnings in the world of couture. He was a designer that started from the fabric, allowing it to influence the final design. Here he uses the semi-transparency of the beads on a fine netted lace to shape and mold the body underneath. The lace used is a combination of a red and black. Hand sewn onto the black portions of the lace are thousands of tiny black sequins. These are set into place to follow the pattern of the lace and they cover the dress from shoulder to hem. Covering the red parts of the design are tiny seed beads, again hand applied by the thousands to the lace net below. The combination of beads and sequins catch the light wonderfully when you move. The dress itself is fitted through the body and the sleeves are set so that the the shoulders are left bare. The dress is lined in a layer of fine black silk that gives you coverage through the body but leaves the upper neckline and sleeves semi-transparent. The semi-transparency is also used in the deep V in the back and for the last couple of inches of the hem. The workmanship is very fine and the is truly exquisite in person. Excellent condition

This is a seriously fabulous jumpsuit  and jacket from by the iconic Diane Von Furstenberg. Diane moved to New York with her husband, Prince Eduard Egon von Furstenberg in 1969. She had design aspirations and in 1970 showed her first collection. It was in 1972 that she first debuted her now-iconic 'wrap dress' for the working woman, revolutionizing American women's apparel. By 1976, she had sold 5 million wrap dresses, landed covers of Newsweek and The Wall Street Journal and was a regular within the pages of Vogue. By then she had added the jumpsuit to her line up and they were also a success. She is actually wearing a similar piece in the Vogue reference photo I have included here. and a strikingly similar version appeared in Vogue editorial that year as well.

Girls bought these jumpsuits in droves and wore them to travel, dance in, and pretty much everything else. You do see Diane's dress versions of these pieces from this time period pop up more often then the jumpsuits do, but I am always on the lookout for these as well. They are harder to find but worth the hunt. This one, with its graphic black and white tulip print that is screened onto a soft stretch jersey is wonderful. It has long, lean lines and makes you look and feel supermodel tall in it. The contrasting black and white design covers the fabric from the top of the collar of the jacket to the bottom of that fabulous hem of the pant legs. The print is crisp and it looks fresh and new. I doubt this was ever worn at all. The jacket falls to just past the hip and is cut to fit to the body. It buttons at the front so you can wear it open or closed. The sleeves are long and lean and the collar appropriately pointed for the time period. The original tie belt cinches in the waist and can be worn with the jacket or around the waist of the jumpsuit. The jumpsuit underneath is cut to hug the torso and is scooped at the front and the back. The waist is seamed and the legs are cut straight and long, gradually widening as they hit the hem. The final result is one long, lean, supermodel silhouette. Excellent condition.

The jumpsuit and jacket are unlined. The jacket closes down the front with buttons and comes with it's original matching fabric belt. The jumpsuit has a back set zipper. The jersey has some stretch but the waist is seamed on the jumpsuit so has less give on that particular measurement. It appears to have never been worn, or worn very little.

I love the design of this jumpsuit. It's got a bit of a sexy vibe with the scooped front, but still feels easy and chic. That graphic black on white print gives it a touch of drama and the wash and wear jersey makes it super easy to wear and travel with. The legs are cut extraordinarily wide. At first glance you might think it is a dress but once on it gives you the ease of a jumpsuit. The bodice is cut in a cured scoop at the front and it also zips up the front so that you can leave as much skin showing as you wish. The sleeves are cut long and straight and it meant to be more fitted through the torso to balance out the width of the pants. It is made out a washable jersey that is easy to travel with and stays virtually wrinkle free. It is the kind of piece you can throw into a suitcase and be able to pull out and wear right away. It works from day to night depending on how you style it and if you go with flats or heels. The white still feels crisp and the black floral print pops off that white backdrop perfectly. The wrap dresses and jumpsuits by Diane Von Furstenberg have become an iconic staple and this is one of the originals. Diane moved to New York with her husband, Prince Eduard Egon Von Furstenberg in 1969. She had design aspirations and in 1970 showed her first collection. It was in 1972 that she first debuted her now-iconic 'wrap dress' for the working woman, revolutionizing American women's apparel. By 1976, she had sold 5 million wrap dresses, landed covers of Newsweek and The Wall Street Journal and was a regular within the pages of Vogue. By then she had added the jumpsuit to her line up and they were also a success. I have included one of her ads for a similar jumpsuit from that year, and also a shot of Farrah Fawcett wearing a version.

Girls bought these jumpsuits in droves and wore them to travel, dance in, and pretty much everything else. You do see Diane's dress versions of these pieces from this time period pop up more often then the jumpsuits do, but I am always on the lookout for these as well. They are harder to find but worth the hunt. This one, with its graphic starburst print in black and shades of grey is wonderful. The print is screened onto a soft stretch jersey and the design covers the jumpsuit from head to toe. It has long, lean lines and makes you look and feel supermodel tall in it. This is a play on here classic wrap dress. The top part of it is cut in the exact same line as her dresses were with a cross over bodice that plunges at the front and long lean sleeves with a flip over cuffs. Each panel of the bodice extends out to long ties, with one sliding through a hidden slit along the side seam, and then both wrap around the waist to close the top part around you and  cinch in the waist. This allows you to fit it perfectly around your waist and torso. It also gives it a sexy plunge front. From there the legs are cut straight and long, gradually widening as they hit the hem. The final result is one long, lean, supermodel silhouette. Excellent condition.

The jumpsuit is unlined, slips on and then ties onto places as described above. The fabric is a soft jersey that has an almost heavy T-shirt feeling finish to it. The fabric does have some stretch. It appears to have been worn very little.

This gorgeous dress by Hanae Mori is a personal favorite and I was happy to be able to document it to her 1977 collection. I love that it is made from a printed yukata cotton, a fabric traditionally used for more casual summer kimonos. The reference photo shows other, similar dresses from that same collection.

You see most of her work done on silks and this fabric choice brings a deeper dimension to the print. It allowed her to make the white parts of her design a stark contrast to the deep blue and keep the edges of the print crisp and clean. I also love that she uses two prints to contrast the bodice from the skirt. On the bodice the print is larger and depicts beautiful round fans, whereas the skirt has a vertical lines with pretty little flowers scattered among them. The top is cut from four overlapping panels that cross over each other at the front and back. The back utilizes the design in how the dress closes with cleverly set hidden snaps and hooks that follow the edges to open the waist and bust to allow you to slip it on. The skirt is set just under the bust and then falls to the floor in a gently widening sweep of fabric. It is very pretty and yet still a striking and unusual piece. Excellent condition.

The book 'Ossie Clark, 1964-1974' by Judith Watts, has a coat pictured in it from the 1971 collection with the same slightly off-set buttoned front that this suit has. The label on the suit is his couture/custom made label and this is certainly the only version of this particular suit that I have seen. I love the shade of red. It is one that is flattering to most skin tones and has such impact despite the relative simplicity of the design. The suit is two pieces, a light weight top that is shaped more along the lines of a jacket, and a pair of trousers. The pants are flat fronted with minimal seaming and cut to be fitted and sit high and slim around the waist and hips. The legs widen out as they near the hem and that cut gives the effect of an extra long leg. The jacket is cut to skim over the body and lands just below the hips. It buttons entirely up the front and by the time is reaches the wide set collar the buttons sit just under one side so the entire row of buttons is set just off the center point. Angled, top set, flap pockets sit on each hip and the collar is elongated and pointed - a signature Ossie collar. The fabric choice utilizes another of his favored signatures - it's a moss crepe that drapes and sits wonderfully. Presents as excellent condition overall with some minor notes to review below.

This is one my own personal favorites of all the Bill Tice designs. I own a version of it myself that I wear endlessly and will always have on in my closet. I am very happy to have finally found documentation of it and that the documentation for it ended up being an editorial that featured Jerry Hall for Vogue in 1981. I have had versions of this in the shop before and every girl that has bought one through me has loved it. It is one of those fail safe pieces that you know is going to work every time you put it on. When I do get one in they tend to fly out the door. It is insanely sexy with an easy to wear caftan feel that is suspended from one single shoulder. It is made of a black liquid jersey that feels amazing on and has the added bonus of traveling very well. It is the kind of piece you can throw into your suit case and slip on with either flats or heels when you reach some far off destination and be instantly ready to go. The inner dress is long and slim and this is topped by a looser overlay that is cut on an angle. There is a high slit up one leg that shows when you walk or sit . The single shoulder ties into place and it is accented by his signature curved top stitch gold lame. Excellent condition

This is from the same time period as the other two Tice pieces that just landed in the shop so am confident to date it that same period where he was using that top stitched gold fabric to accent his pieces. The dress is very easy to wear and forgiving on most figures with its loose and voluminous cut through the body. Keep in mind that it does not mean that it is not as sexy as some of the others - it is just sexy in a different way. It is made of a black liquid jersey that feels amazing on and has the added bonus of traveling very well. It is the kind of piece that you can throw into your suit case and slip on with either flats or heels when you reach some far off destination and be instantly ready to go. It is has one single shoulder and sleeve and the other is left bare. The dress itself is long and full through the body with a high slit on the side opposite to the sleeve for balance. This lets some bare leg show when you walk or sit. The entire neckline is accented by his signature top stitch gold lame and this then ties right on the top of that one shoulder. I love when i get versions of this dress in the shop and I am happy to have finally found documentation of it for this round as well in not just one, but two ads in the 1980-1981 time period that it was produced. Versions have been worn by countless celebrities since. Lady Gaga wore a version, as have girls like Rachel Zoe & Nicole Richie and every girl that has bought one through me has loved it. This is one of my very favorite Gucci pieces from when Frida Giannini was the creative director of the house. It is also one of the most well documented pieces from this collection as it was featured in the ad campaign that year. It was Look 43 in the pre-fall show. Style.com review of the collection included these remarks: "Frida Giannini has gotten a lot of celebrity mileage out of her ode to the Jazz Age.....The designer's follow-up for pre-fall is a good deal more subdued, almost minimal at times. And over at Vogue the reviews mentioned the gowns: Meanwhile, the evening attire is lighter and simpler, possibly embellished with some subtle appliqués or floral fantasies, and baring the shoulders."

The dress has a definitive Grecian feel to it with its one shoulder silhouette. The 'jazz age' touch mentioned in the review above is apparent with that cluster of large crystal embellishments that run over the single shoulder. These are topped with a beautiful dragonfly pin. I love that it was made as an actual working pin so that it can be moved and placed where ever as you wish it to be on the dress, or you can wear it separately as a stand alone piece of jewellery. The cut is loose and easy through the body and it simply drapes over your curves. This makes it very comfortable to wear and very flattering once on. There is a high cut slit running up the seam of one leg so when you move or sit you get a flash of skin showing. Very chic and has a bit of a timeless feel to it. Excellent condition.

This is a sexy and easy to wear one shoulder dress done in a black jersey by one of my favorite California designers, Joy Stevens. Her designs ruled the night clubs of the seventies and have a sexy but easy to wear feel to them. They were the type of thing you just threw on, looked fabulous and could dance until 3 in without worrying about how they would hold up. Her best pieces were made from a fluid jersey (like this piece) and this allowed them to both move and wear well. This dress is so easy to wear with its inner jersey dress that is cut to skim over the body and gently widens out as it nears the hem. Over this is a panel of the same fabric that drapes from the shoulder and loops down and across the front and back of the dress along the side that the shoulder is left bare on. The shoulder is slightly exaggerated and I love how it is set long the top in a series of gathers. The jersey is wash and wear so it is easy to travel with. Excellent condition.

This Hanae Mori dress is stunning with its wonderful color combination that effortlessly combines her love of fabric and print. It is full length, easy to wear and  constructed from feather light silk chiffon. The colors are beautiful, mixing a deep red with blues along with pops of white and navy. The dress is constructed from two layers of silk chiffon with a custom designed pattern that covers the surface of the exterior layer. This gives the dress an airy light feel as it floats over the body. I love the huge stylized print that covers the surface of the dress. The sleeves are long and left unlined with slits at the cuffs that add to the airy and light feel they have. The nod to a caftan in the cut make it easy to wear and flattering to a variety of figures. Hanae was the first woman of Japanese descent whose label was admitted as an official Haute Couture atelier. Her sense of color and line are impeccable and you can see that in this wonderful example of her work. You can wear this loose and easy as shown, or add a belt it to create more shape. Excellent condition.

The dress is  made of three layers, the printed, top silk chiffon layer, a middle solid silk chiffon layer and an inner silk lining. The sleeves are left unlined. It closes with a painted metal and nylon zipper that attaches the two inner layers. The outer layer of silk closes with a row of her signature tiny, silk covered snaps. I love Bill Blass pieces. Blass was pne of the premiere Americal designers and was known for his effortless chic. He won countless awards including seven Coty Awards and the Fashion Institute of Technology's Lifetime Achievement Award. This dress would have been made while he was still running the company and it has many of his hallmarks, A love of simplicity, the mixing of great fabrics and a bit of a subtle play on sexuality that never crossed the line. The body of the dress is made of a mix of fabrics that add to its visual interest. The skirt and draped panels on the bodice and back are a black silk chiffon that is hand set into place. This creates that feel of softness and lightness that the dress has. When you move the skirt twirls and moves with you. It is cut to hug your curves and shape the body. The bodice has interior boning to form and shape the bust. The base layer is a nude silk that gives the illusion from the distance that you are seeing bare skin through the black lace. The lace is a heavy thread that forms little 3D flowers set into the pattern. These peek out as if it is a separate piece set under the draping and adds to the sensuality of the dress. It is wonderful. Excellent condition

Fully lined in black sueded silk and with a silk inner corseting that is boned and adds support. It closes with a back set zipper and the black chiffon panels wrap over it and hook down one side. Inner attached waist stay for added support.

In 1952, Givenchy founded his namesake house on Rue Alfred de Vigny in Paris and quickly rose to fame as one of the grand couturiers. 16 years later for the 1968-69 season, he added a ready-to-wear line of clothing and accessories called “Givenchy Nouvelle Boutique”. The line was initially sold in the United States exclusively through Bergdorf-Goodman stores and was eventually available at other retailers as well. The line was high end and extremely well made and made to appeal to his non-couture clients. It continued until 1992.

This dress is made from an easy to wear, synthetic jersey fabric in a deep blue. Many people are surprised to see pieces from the larger ateliers producing dresses using this fabric, but at the time this was a cutting edge fabric with all the promises of long life and easy care. High end designers like Givenchy were on the forefront of these developments in fabric. They were also practical as many of their clients traveled extensively and this fabric could be popped into a suitcase at one end and worn immediately upon arrival at the other. The dress has a simple cut with a pretty red and white floral print scattered over its surface. The neckline has a square cut with straps that curve up and over the shoulders. The bodice has been draped and gathered all the way around the torso. From the waist the skirt falls to the floor, gently widening out as it nears the hem. It is a gorgeous little piece that can easily go from day to evening with a change of accessories. Excellent condition.

I am such a fan of Joy Stevens work - she made amazing jersey dresses out of her design studio in California during the 1970s and they are really some of the nest jerseys of the time period. She concentrated on easy to wear day pieces and  designs that ruled the night clubs of the seventies. Her work typically has a sexy but easy to wear feel to it. They were the type of thing you just threw on, looked fabulous in, and could dance until 3am without worrying about how they would hold up. Her best pieces were made from a fluid jersey (like this piece) and this allowed them to both move and wear well. This amazing little halter dress is done in a deep brown jersey with an olive undertone to it. It ties around the neck and the back is left bare. At the front, an embroidered net applique has been placed over the bust. The design gives the suggestion of feathers. The Under this the dress is softly pleated and tucked in and behind that embroidered panel making the skirt look like it just cascades out from underneath it. Excellent condition.

The dress is unlined and made of a synthetic jersey knit and the fabric does have stretch. It closes with a back painted metal zipper and ties around the neck.

Annacat is a label that is very hard to find and quite rare. When you do find one and it is as wonderful as this one is you really feel like celebrating. In its day, Annacat pieces were often featured in editorials for Vogue, US & the UK, and Harper's Bazaar. The label was a favorite of fashion insiders and was worn by It girls and rock stars. This dress is a great example of the level of quality that they were producing then. It is very sexy in a very pretty and romantic kind of way. It is made from a bias cut, almost weightless, ribbon print silk chiffon. The ribbon detailing has a slight sheen that gives the dress a bit of a glowing effect that is very pretty. The silk is so light that it almost seems to float around you when you move. The bodice blouses over the bust with a V neck that has a tie at the top. The fabric here is all finished with tiny little pin tucks for extra detailing and it s gathered slightly where the waist is. Each sleeve is a pretty flutter of silk. The sleeves are slit down each side and then caught up again along the hem of the sleeve. The opening continues across the shoulders and is suspended by ties on each side of the neck for a pretty peek of skin. The skirt has yards of fabric that is all cut on the bias. I love how the skirt is cut to be longer at the center of the front and back and comes up on each side slightly. A matching fabric tie wraps around the waist to cinch it in. It feels very much like a 70s version of a thirties tea dress and is even better in person. Excellent condition.

The bodice and skirt are lined in a nude silk chiffon and the sleeves are unlined. It is bias cut and slips on to wear and then the tie belt cinches it in to fit. The bias cut and easy fit will allow for a range of sizes

John Anthony opened his label in 1971 and during the 1970s he produced some really outstanding pieces at a couture level, that were sleek, sexy and sophisticated. His business was all done on a made to order basis. That means the majority of pieces found are a one-off, or if there are similar pieces, very few of each piece exist. This personal attention to each dress is clearly seen in the workmanship of his pieces and his work is a personal favorite. This dress is wonderful and is constructed from a fine brown colored lace that is placed over an double layer of nude silk chiffon. This layering effect gives it just enough coverage to keep it from being see-through but keeps it very light and easy to wear. It also give the allusion that the wearer has one less then she actually does. The combination of lace and silk give it a slight lingerie inspiration feel that i love. It is constructed to demi-couture standards and is hand finished with exquisite touches. The lace is detailed with clusters of round copper colored beads that are sewn into place by hand and scatted over the entire gown. The interior bust is supported by a built in bodice that is cleverly concealed by another layer of silk so seems to not exist when on the body. It hugs and molds to the body and the strapless silhouette is very flattering. The legs are given extra attention with a high cut side slit. All of the edges have the lace peaking over the inner seam work so you can see the scalloped edges. Excellent condition.

Fully lined with two layers of a fine nude colored silk chiffon and an additional layer of tissue silk through the bodice. It closes with a hand set back painted metal zipper and the exterior lace closes over that and secures with hook & eye. Boning through the bodice. Hand sewn finishes and the bead work is hand placed and hand sewn.  Note that is does fully close at the back on the proper sized girl

In 1952, Givenchy founded his namesake house on Rue Alfred de Vigny in Paris and quickly rose to fame as one of the grand couturiers. 16 years later for the 1968-69 season, he added a ready-to-wear line of clothing and accessories called “Givenchy Nouvelle Boutique”. The line was initially sold in the United States exclusively through Bergdorf-Goodman stores and was eventually available at other retailers as well. The line was high end and extremely well made and made to appeal yo his non-couture clients. It continued until 1992.

This dress is from that line and the color combination is striking. It combines a bright, true red with a vivid royal blue for a bold contrast. It is entirely made of a textured silk chiffon and the contrast and impact is created solely by the mixing of the draped panels and those two opposing colors. It is not a dress for a wallflower. The cut has a Grecian feel to it and it is very light in weight so moves wonderfully once on. I love how the curves of the dress work in combination with each other to make the design beautiful to look at no matter what angle you see it from. The skirt flows to the floor with two layers of the red bias silk chiffon set over an inner silk lining. This gives it beautiful flow and a feeling of lightness and airiness. A panel of blue silk wraps around the waist and ties off to one side to trail down and contrast against the red. The bodice of the dress is cut to follow your curves and the hand placed, gathered chiffon is draped down and across the waist and bust to create a flattering line. Again you have that contrast in color with the panels switching from red to blue. The top panel on the bust is blue and this has a panel of silk attached at one side that drapes up and over the shoulder. This then falls like a long angel sleeve over the arm and to the floor. This dress really moves wonderfully when on and is quite beautiful and striking. Excellent condition.

Phoebe Vickers and Purna Khatau are teh duo behind the relatively new label, Rhode Resort. Their self-described concept behind their designs is "to create a complete vacation wardrobe, using luxe feel-good fabrics, sophisticated colors, and hand-crafted embellishments." This caftan is from their 2016 collection and was called the Casu Caftan dress. It is an easy to wear, light weight, fine cotton caftan. The base fabric is 100% cotton voile and the fresco print is a mix of red, blues and taupes on a crisp white Indian cotton. I love the loose and easy kaftan cut that has little cuffs built in at the side to slip your hands through. The edges are tasseled with a deep green tassel trim that runs over the entire edge of the dress. Each side has a tassel edged slits that run up to about knee height. The V neckline has a pretty lacing detail for the perfect finish. It has never been worn and still has the original tags attached.

Mollie Parnis is one of my favorite American designers. During the course of her career she dressed numerous first ladies and her work was held in high regard. She started a label with her husband in 1933 and by the 1940s was designing solely under her own label. The boutique label launched in 1970 and the fabrics used for this label were targeted to a younger audience and the fabrics used for it tended to be more whimsical and brighter to appeal to a younger clientele. This example is exceptional and very pretty. It has a bit of a renaissance, milkmaid feel to it with its laced corseted front, even if the laces are most decorative. It is as pretty in person as it appears in the photos and I think its even better in real life. I love the contrasting colors and play on the two prints. They work off of each other to give the top and skirt contrast but still tie it all together wonderfully. The bodice has seaming and that lace front detail to emphasize the bust line.  It is banded below that in the same purple floral print cotton with a empire feeling waist. From there the skirt falls to the ground in that gorgeous contrasting red with its own floral print covering it. There is a ton of fabric in the skirt so you get great movement. It is really a gorgeous little number. Excellent condition.

Fully lined through the skirt in a red silk voile. The bodice is finished inside in the same fabric as the exterior. The laces do cinch it in a bit so the fit is perfect, but are mainly decorative. It closes with a back painted metal & nylon zipper. Note the straps seem to fit long for the cut and where the bust sits once on, I suspect most girls will want to shorten them to fit properly.

American couturier, James Galanos, typifies that true American glamour. His work combined chic sophistication with bold design and fabric. Galanos was particularly known for his evening wear. He cut and created his designs to extremely high standards and the workmanship is fabulous. He is considered one of the great American couturiers and his dresses and gowns reflect this in terms of construction and quality.

In person, the effect of the gold thread & silver metallic thread worked through the black backdrop is breathtaking. It pops off the black silk chiffon base far more then the photos can capture. The dress is also surprisingly light, far lighter then you would think at first glance. This is because the base is a double layer of a black silk chiffon that keep the weight light bit still holds the shape he was after. The metallic design that covers the dress is made of a soft 'eyelash' lurex that has a slight 3D effect. It makes the entire dress sparkle and glimmer with every movement of the wearer and the effect is beautiful. The cut has been kept simple so that the fabric can take center stage. A high rounded neckline and simple bodice are balance by long sleeves and a skirt that flows to the floor in a long column. Up one side is a 21" slit that shows some leg when you walk or move. It is a beautiful, dramatic piece and better in person and on a real body. Excellent condition.

This beautiful 1960s dress has an almost identical fabric to an Oscar De La Renta I have had in the shop and is similar in quality. This sometimes happened during this time period as different design houses would sometimes shop at the same fabric mills and did not always get exclusives. The fabric  is far lighter then you would think at first glance. It has the look of a brocade but the fabric is actually a textured silk organza in a deep blue. Gold lurex thread has been worked into the organza to highlight the vibrant floral print that is screened onto the dress. That pattern is fantastic and I love that it forms little hearts. Purples and corals are mixed in with bright pink flowers that cover the surface. It is cut in a long and simple sheath that widens as it nears the hem. The simple shape is easy to wear and flattering. I love how the design is set on an angle over the fabric. This cleverly draws the eye to create a longer line. The sleeves are left unlined and a flat gold lurex ribbon circles the neck. Excellent condition

The is the second time I have has this set in the shop and I think I like it even more this time around. The French have a saying 'jolie laide' which translates roughly to 'beautiful ugly' and refers to something that is unconventionally beautiful. It is usually a saying used when speaking of a women with strong, unconventional features that make her beautiful in a way that does not conform to traditional standards, but I feel it works well for this ensemble. This dress and jacket should not work. They are a clash of patterns and fabrics. The skirt of the dress and the outside fabric of the jacket is finished in a metallic lurex with  a floral print splashed over its surface. The bodice and sleeves of the dress are densely covered in sequins. Matching sequins line the inside of the jacket. Even the sequins themselves are odd, each has an unusual 'tiger stripe' finish on its surface. Everything clashes yet everything oddly works. It is so bad that it is oddly good. Wear the jacket over the dress or wear as a separate. Excellent condition

The dress is interlined in a black silky rayon and closes with a back zipper. Attached ties at the waist. Pockets along the seam at each hip. The jacket is lined in the same black fabric through the sleeves and otherwise is densely sequinned through the interior body. The jacket has no closures and has pockets top set on each side.

if it’s good enough for Liza... was thrilled to date this dress based on a similar version worn by none other then Liza Minnelli. She was captured in it at Studio 54. It was always a personal favourite and I love it even more.

This dress is so easy to wear and yet it still makes a major statement with those fabulous gold lurex stripes. The dress itself is made from a deep burgundy colored silk chiffon. This fabric choice makes it extremely light in weight and adds to the ease of it once on the body. Woven though the silk are waving stripes that are made from a gold lurex thread. These curve over both the dress and the matching sash belt. The stripes are set into the silk in three different densities. This play on the width and placement of the stripes give the dress extra texture and visual interest. On the bodice the stripes are set horizontally and are the widest stripes of the three kinds he used. On the skirt the stripes are set vertically and the gold thread is set in skinny rows onto the silk so you get more of the burgundy colour of the silk showing through. On the sash, the stripes of the gold thread and the stripes of burgundy silk are of equal size. The dress slips on and the top is cut loose with a wide boat neck. The waist is cut wide and loose bu the belt cinch it in so it is easy to fit almost any size. The skirt flows to the floor under that. It is really gorgeous. Excellent condition with one small note to review below

The top is unlined and the skirt is lined in second layer of chiffon. It closes with a low set back painted metal zipper and buttons from the waist to the neck above that. Each sleeve has elastic at its cuff. The sash tie is very long so you can wrap and style it numerous ways. You could even wrap it and use it as a headscarf if you wished. There is a little bit of distress to the corners of the seams on either side of the neck as shown in the photo after the shot of the label.

Michaele Vollbracht worked for three of the American greats, Geoffrey Beene, Donald Brooks, and Norman Norell, before turning to fashion illustration and eventually launching his first collection under his own name in 1978. In 1981 he added a ready-to-wear line called Vollbracht Too of which this set is from. His label almost instantly became a favorite and he seemed unstoppable until he unexpectedly lost his backing in 1985 and by 1987 his label was shuttered and closed. All of his pieces have his trademark, self designed fabrications that show his love of illustration. Most are on light weight silk like this set is, a fabric choice perfect to transfer his prints onto while maintaining the colors he was after. He loved to splash huge graphics across the fabric and the patterns would be set to follow the lines of the garment. This two piece top and skirt set is a great example of that and you can see how the design has been placed to follow the cut. The top is cut full and easy through the body and can be worn loose or tucked into the skirt. The sleeves are full above their wide buttoned cuffs and there is a small tie at the neck. This goes with a skirt whose pattern matches the top. The waist is cinched in and the cut is full below that. There is an inverted pleat that runs down the front center to give the skirt volume when you move and also give you an unexpected flash of more print. The pockets are amazing and set on top of the skirt at each side. Each has its own design that perfectly matches it shape. I love the subtle dot pattern that runs through the silk and acts as the perfect finishing touch. Excellent condition

Both the top and skirt are unlined. The top closes with buttons down the front and has a small attached tie at the neck. Each sleeve is finished with a row of tightly spaced buttons that are decorative only. The skirt closes with a zipper and flat hook & eye on the waistband. It appears to have been worn very little if at all. Fabric is signed.

This is a lovely set that is unusual in that it is a larger size which can be a rarity in vintage. The print is so shocking for its time period and feels like a precursor for what in the 1980s. The client that commissioned this one must have been a bold girl to have ordered such a bold statement piece. It is two pieces, a dress with a matching coat that slips over it. The dress itself is made from a silk jersey with a stylized blue leopard print. It has a simple cut with an undefined waist, long sleeves and scooped neckline. It cut very loose and full through the body, almost caftan like, though you could easily belt it if you wanted to add more shape. The coat is the same print and the cut equally as simple. The fabric is more of a jersey knit and I like the slight contrast between the two fabric choices. The collar is rounded and simple. Down the front it closes with a series of large, clear acrylic buttons that have a blue center for contrast. The body of the coat is also cut loose and easy with that same slight flare to give it more volume as it nears the hem. Excellent condition.

Both pieces are fully lined in a hand set blue silk. The dress closes at the back with a painted metal zipper. The sleeves are not lined in the dress. The coat closes at the front with the buttons as show. Proper buttonholes. Hand finished. It is definitely more on the XL side.

The cut of this dress is not typical of Emilio Pucci's work but I wish it was as its very feminine and flattering. It is cut loose and easy through the bodice with ties at the neck that you can tie at the front or wrap and cross up and around the neck. Depending on how you tie it you can wear it to sit off the shoulder, or more on top of the shoulder. The silk jersey it is made of adds to its allure and give it the easy drape you see. This was a favored fabric of Pucci and the colors of his self-designed prints really pop against them. On this dress the print is especially pretty with soft, huge feathers curling over the dress and against each other, covering the surface. The sleeves are cut to be very full and each balloons out over its cuff. The waist is defined by piping but is cut to be loose and easy and the piping suggests, rather than defines the waist. It is simple in cut and fabrication, but striking because if the print with a dash of sensuality because of the bare shoulders. Excellent condition

The dresses from 1992 were as well known for their prices as they were for their brevity. Elle reported that year that his collection was 'extraordinarily pricey with cardigans run around $1,400 and dresses between $2,500 and $3,500'. In a 10 page spread that season, Azzedine speaks of his 'delights in the space-age fabric he used for his Spring 1992 collection (he calls the NASA-developed material "Relax" for its purported ability to act as a screen against microwave emissions)'. Striped versions of the dress here were featured both in the Alaia exhibit at the Groninger Museum and accompanying book 'Alaia- Azzedine Alaia in the 21st Century,'.

The jet black knit that the dress is made out of hugs and shapes the body. The knit has structure built into it and once on the body, it helps to shapes and mold the body underneath it while never seeming too tight from the outside. The neckline sits low across the bust to suggests and give a nod to the cut of a Victorian corset. I love the off shoulder strap detailing that leaves the peak of the shoulder bare while a second strap curves around the top of the shoulder to meet the neckline. The upper edge of the neck is finished with his signature scalloped edging that he used during this time period. This little detail gives it a pretty and feminine touch. There is no defined waist  to the dress, it simply glides over the bust and down to hug the hips. It is utterly amazing and sexy as hell. Excellent condition

This more recent Azzedine Alaia knit dress is one of his classic silhouettes and will always be in style. The fabric combined with his signature pleats used to create the shape through the body and skirt are instantly recognizable as his work. The dress is made from his iconic, black stretch knits and this one has a slight ribbing texture running through it. The knit has structure built into it and once on the body, it helps to shape and mold the body underneath it while never seeming too tight from the outside. The dress has three distinct textures woven into the knit. The shoulders and upper bust are a solid, flat weave. Through the waist there are raised, vertical rows that act like a corset to shape the body. Those rows then expand, flare out and become perfectly spaced knife pleats that give the skirt fullness and movement. A stunning piece from one of the greats. Excellent condition.

This is a more recent dress from a new label called Zazi Vintage. It was founded by Jeanne de Kroon and their website best described what they do: " ZAZI is a luxury fashion label with a focus on sustainability and women's economic and social independence. Working with both vintage and organic materials, the aim is to give new life to traditional vintage and also create new pieces in partnership with women and artisans worldwide. Our collections pay fair wages, fund girls’ education, and support local artisans."

This is a dress, a style they call the Madhu, is from one of their earliest launches and is made from a vintage silk Ikat in blue and gold. The fabric is sourced from the Fergana region of Uzbekistan and each piece is handmade by the seamstresses from IPHD in Bhikamkor (rural Rajasthan). It slips over the head with a notched neckline that you can button if you prefer a higher neck. The sleeves work wonderfully pushed up so that the poufed part of them is really emphasized. The waist is banded and has attached ties so you can cinch it in once on. The hem line is cut on a curve to meet a slit at one side. It is very pretty and easy to wear. Excellent condition.

Unlined and slips over the head. Attached ties can adjust the waist in. Note that there are no side or back closures so take that into account that you will need extra room to get it on, hence the size category it is placed under. Hand made and in unworn condition. This style in a comparable silk currently retails for 890 euros.

This Malcolm Starr is stunning. The fabric hits you right off - it is a beautiful metallic brocade with a slightly raised pattern in gold running over its surface that has a touch of dimension to it so you really get an amazing play on light. The color is equally unusual with its pale lime green base that has that gold shot through it so it becomes neither of those two colors but something unique unto itself. The dress is cut with a baby doll silhouette at the top and a full length maxi skirt that widens out with a wonderful sweep as it nears the floor. The waist line is high and sits just under the V of the neckline. The neckline does not plunge quite into the empire waist but could if you wished. there is currently a little extra panel of fabric there that could easily be removed if you wanted the full plunge effect. Just under that sits a jeweled gold bar and rings that attach to the piping at the waist. These are encrusted with rhinestones so add a little extra glitz and also emphasizes the cut. The sleeves are long and each is cut to pouf out slightly above the notched cuffs. Here too sits a rhinestone encrusted extra bit of bling on the button. The detail I love the most are those fabulous full length pleats that sit on other side of the hip that add length and volume to the skirt. The fact that a hidden pocket that goes right through to the other side, almost like a muff would, is just an extra bonus. Excellent condition.

Fully lined in a pale lime silk and closes with a back painted metal zipper. The front metal plate is inlaid with rhinestones and I see no missing stones. A long front pocket under the front middle panel. Rhinestone encrusted buttons at each cuff. Hand finished.

A similar dress in yellow was photoed in 1965 and the dress with its beautiful, almost iridescent peach is even prettier in my opinion. Marc Bohan was only a couple of years into his tenure as head of Dior and the 1965 collection was a study in line and cut. He designed a gown called the "Eloise" that year that has a similar cut and apron technique used in the skirt, it is the obvious that this dress is descended from that. I have included photos of both dresses as reference.

The first thing about this dress that you are drawn to is the color. It is an amazing shade of peach and the camera does not quite capture the slightly iridescent quality that the silk adds to its impact. In person it is gorgeous and the color is richer and has more depth. The dress is immaculately constructed. For example, the edge of each inner seam is painstakingly wrapped in a thin banding of silk chiffon. The work to do this with such a finicky fabric would have taken hours to complete just this one detail and it is a detail that is unseen. The dress has a almost sculptural feel to its shape. The bodice is sleeveless and has a softly scooped neck. It is cut and fitted to skim over the body by perfectly placed seaming. The skirt is deceptive as it appears to be a simple cut but it is actually constructed in layers.  There is an inner fitted skirt that has two slit pockets that sit on each hip. Over this inner layer are two attached panels, one that sits over the front of the skirt and the other that sits over the back. The best way to describe it is like an attached apron that leaves the sides open on either side to see the inner skirt. It is exquisite. Excellent condition with a note to review below concerning the inner lining.

The dress is fully lined in a white silk chiffon on both the inner dress and under the skirt overlays. The inner silk bodice is lined in a silk crepe. It closes at the back with a painted metal, hand set zipper. There is a second hand set metal zipper that closes the inner waist and bodice. Hook and eye are hidden to close the band set at the waist. All the edges of the inner seams are finished with a silk chiffon edging. Some of the inner lining is splitting horizontally here and there as the fabric used was so fine and delicate. I have chose to leave it as found rather then having it removed. It is all original and is stable and wearable as is and of course you do not see the lining when it is on. It appears to have not been worn or worn very little otherwise. The label is numbered denoting its demi-couture status.

This dress is from the British retailer Wallis who has been around since 1923. In the 1950s they started carrying copies of Paris originals, done with permission through licensing agreements with a select group of designers. By the 1960s, the era from which this dress is from, they had shifted to trying to reach a younger audience and carried s mix of young British Designers and their own designs. This dress is darling with its loose and easy cut through the body. It has little ties in a matching fabric that go up and over each shoulder and then tie for the perfect fit. It buttons all the way down the front to the second tier of smocking detail. The dress is cut so it widens out as it goes and that final tier is quite voluminous. I love the two smock details that gather in the fabric and that run around the bust and above the final tier. They had detail and shape. It's super cute. Excellent overall condition with one small note below to review.

Unlined and slip over the head with buttons at the front. The color has a touch more depth then how it photoed and is better in person. There is one very faint spot on the front which I have photoed to show it at its worst. It's actually less prominent when on and you see it in person. It is fitted through the bust and then open through the rest

The duo behind the La Mendola label met in Rome in 1960 and started their business making dresses and selling them one by one, piece by piece. In 1967 they opened a shop and women like Elizabeth Taylor and Rita Hayworth become steadfast clients who were buying, and even wait listing for pieces as they were produced. This dress is a wonderful piece by them that is made from a fluid synthetic jersey and remarkably, still has its matching silk chiffon, feather trimmed capelet. The cut is very loose and easy and it simply flows out from the shoulder to almost caftan proportions below that. The print that covers both pieces is a beautiful mix of blue tones. It has a simple cut with an undefined waist, a V cut neckline and long sleeves. I love how it covers the body completely and how the fabric drapes and skims over your curves so it is still sexy. You could easily  belt and cinch in the waist for more shape or wear it loose and easy. The cape drapes over the shoulders and the feathers give it a sense of high glamour as well as lots of movement. It was made for a larger woman and she must have been very tall as well as it is exceptionally long. I have it on for the photos but it really was very large on me so please be sure to go by the measurements if you shop based on what I am wearing. The length is supermodel long at 65" from shoulder to hem. It is an amazing piece. Note that it presents very well but is not perfect so please check the condition notes below.

Unlined and closes at the back with a painted metal zipper. The bias cut stretch fabric and forgiving design of the dress will allow it to work on a range of sizes. I have given the measurements at a comfortable stretch lying flat but the fabric does have stretch beyond them a touch even. The cape closes with a button at the front. Note that there is staining down the front of the dress, it is faint but is there. There is so much fabric that a smaller girl could probably have this cut down to fit and eliminate all the marks altogether. It is wearable as is if you don't mind a little imperfection and I have priced it far less then what it would be otherwise. There is the slightest of yellowing to the inside collar of the dress and around the neck of the capelet. Very minor. Otherwise it is excellent

I will no longer be buying furs for the shop moving forward and have not purchased anything for several years now. I feel like times have changed and while there still is a place for vintage furs for some, including collectors and historians, many modern girls are choosing other options. Many of the pieces in my collection are representative of the designer during a set time period in history that was different then our modern outlook. I have decided that the best course to handle this controversial issue is to let the pieces I have go rather then sit in a cold storage unit. Richard Blackwell launched his line in the late 1950s and even then his dress sold for between $800 and $1000 (or up to $10,000 in the modern terns). He dressed many of the stars of the day including Jane Russell, Dorothy Lamour and Jayne Mansfield. Here we have a piece from the 1960s done in a combination of a darker brown chiffon organza and a gold lurex thread that has been applied to the organza in a series of circles that cover the dress from tip to toe. The gold catches the light beautifully and really adds detailing to the piece. The cut is simple but dramatic and fully covers the body. The neck is high and the sleeves are long and cut with a huge pouf balloon sleeve finish that I love. The skirt is quite full and it flows to the floor in a lovely cascade of fabric that is almost a full circle skirt on the outer layer. This is the glamorous version of the hostess dress and very chic. Excellent condition.

Fully lined in the same synthetic organza as the exterior and a brown silky rayon through the skirt. The sleeves are left unlined. It closes with a back, painted metal zipper. Each sleeve has hidden set, fabric covered snaps to close.

This beautifully constructed 1950s Ceil Chapman dress is made from a silk that has been dyed a deep ocean blue. Chapman is best know these days for being one of Marilyn Monroe's favorite designers and it's easy to see why but she was also favored by Elizabeth Taylor, Grace Kelly and Deborah Kerr to name just a few. Chapman's signature style was all about being a bombshell and her dresses that had loads of sex appeal are her most favored now. The dress really showcases Chapman's attention to detail and her love of using gathering and seaming techniques that showcased curves. The skirt is lean and fitted with a pretty bit of curved seaming that is offset to the side, just under the waist line. This gives the wearer the illusion of an even smaller waist then she has. At the back the skirt is cut in a modified mermaid style with a bit of extra fabric set in on an extended curve where there would normally be a vent. This does two things. It allows you to walk,  and it also adds a pretty flaring detail to the back that further accents your natural curves. The waist nips in and the bust has a soft curving seam. The shoulders are set wide and almost sit off the of the shoulder. This leaves the collarbone and the tops of the shoulders bare. The simple cut combined with the amazing blue make it a stand out. Excellent condition
