Spring 1999 Thierry Mugler Black Silk Chiffon Runway Dress
What I love the most about this Thierry Mugler gown is that the layer underneath the top chiffon layer is done in his signature soft blue and the effect that this creates as it peeks through the black top layer is just fabulous. You do get a sense of this in the photos but it is more apparent in person. The light really catches it in different ways to create a different sense of color too. He then plays with the sense of transparency and creates the darts at the bodice - creating the effect of another of his signature solely through the folding and seaming the chiffon to darken it where he desired. The bias cut on the chiffon is perfect as it floats over that interior layer. The cut has that nod back to the glamor days of Hollywood that you see in his best pieces. The bodice is shaped and formed to hug the bust and has interior shaping so it really creates an inner cupping of the breast. Tiny straps suspend the dress from the shoulder and it gently widens out in a beautiful column of silk and chiffon as it nears the floor. It was a touch too big on the mannequin and on the right size girl sits beautifully and seems to just float over the body. Excellent condition.
Fully lined in a baby blue silk. The bust has a seamed foundation that is shaped and fitted. The dress closes with a hidden set back zipper. Tagged a 42
