1950s Blue Silk Ceil Chapman Fitted Wiggle Dress
This is a beautifully constructed 1950s Ceil Chapman dress made from a beautiful silk dyed a deep ocean blue. Chapman is renowned for being one of Marlyn Monroe's favorite designers and its easy to see why - this dress scream bombshell and sex appeal. The dress really showcases Chapman's attention to detail and love of gathering and seaming that followed a girls curves. The techniques used even create curves whether you have them or not. The skirt is lean and fitted with a pretty nit of curved seaming offset just under the waist line to help with the illusion of an even smaller waist. At the back the skirt is cut in a modified mermaid style with a bit of extra fabric set in where there would normally be a vent. This does two things - allows you to walk in that very fitted skirt and also adds a pretty flaring detail to the back. The waist nips in and the bust has a soft curving edge to it and wide set shoulders to leave the collar bones bare. It is wonderful. Excellent condition
Fully interlined in a deep pink burgundy silky rayon and closes with a back painted metal zipper. Piping along the waist. Light boning through the sides.
