This Rosetta Getty dress is from her Spring 2016 collection. When it came out for that season it was an instant hit and was impossible to find anywhere and wait listed at the places it was available at. It is an easy to wear pieces and very flattering. The lines are simple and it has that perfect caftan feel through the long and loose body of the dress. One arm is left completely bare and the other has a sleeve that is cut open down the upper edge with ties that hold it in place. On that same side of the dress is a high slit that runs up the seam so that you get a flash of leg when you move and walk. It is a very chic and easy to wear piece and was a definitive moment for the Rosetta Getty label. New with original tags still attached. Excellent condition.

This is a super little dress from the Mignon label. At first glance it looks like a combination of a print and a silk chiffon but upon closer inspection you see that the floral print is actually embroidery. The embroidery is done in a autumn feeling combination of colors and the patterns covers the dress from just below the shoulders to the hem. I love how the upper shoulders and bodice are left as just the silk chiffon and how this is even carried over onto each sleeve. Each sleeve is cut with a bit of fullness and ends in a little ruffled finish. There is a strip of velvet ribbon circling the wrist just above the ruffle and another velvet ribbon circles the empire cut waist and then ends in a long bow and ties at the front. It is very pretty and feminine. Excellent condition with one small note below to review

The bodice is lined with the same chiffon and the skirt is unlined and closes with a hidden set zipper at the back and a hook and eye at the neck above the slit opening above the zipper. Each sleeve snaps to close.There are two tiny areas of thinning to the chiffon at the back. I have photoed them and you can review in the photo provided after the shot of the label

This Christian Lacroix dress perfectly showcases his mastery in combining colors, fabric and textures. Every element on the gown has a depth and texture to it separate from the others and yet it all works perfectly together. A version of this dress, using the same metallic lace for its skirt, was shown on the Fall 1995 runway giving us the collection date for this piece.

Everything starts with the fabric choices on this one and the cut of the dress is there to simply support those choices. The body of the dress is a metallic lace that has a brilliant array of fall feeling colors. A deep brown lace is finished with a metallic thread that changes from deep coppers and russets to shades of gold. The colors flow into each other in a beautiful mix and cover the dress from just under the empire cut bodice to the extended train at the back. The skirt scoops and under the high set bodice and there is a metallic taffeta ribbon in a deep copper that sits between the bodice and skirt that is finished with a bow at the front. Above that is the bodice and it is done in a pure golden lace. An intricate pattern of flowers are subtly woven through the bust fabric. It is predominately gold but there are also delicate pink toned flowers in there as well. The dress flows to the ground, widening as it nears the hem and it has a longer train at the back. It is just exquisite. Excellent condition.

Fully lined black with a satin lining through the bodice area. It closes with a hidden back zipper and snaps close the gold lace of the bust area over the zipper. Tagged a 38.

IAfter several hours of hunting for what collection this Jean Paul Gaultier was from, I stumbled across a photo from the men's collection from 2002 and it was the closest thing in feel to this jumpsuit. So I am tentatively dating to that time period. He did do these wide legged jumpsuit in the mid-1990s as well so it may be that the jumpsuit proceeded the men's collection and served as his own inspirational source for the men's look. Whether this date or the earlier, it is amazing.

The jumpsuit is cut to be avant garde in fit. It is loose on the body and the legs and the arms are cut extremely long. The body of the jumpsuit is made of a wool jersey knit in that deep muted burgundy color that Gaultier seemed to favor through many of his collections. It is cut on a very long and lean line. The pants flare out when they do eventually reach their hems and they are wide all the way down the leg. The body is loose with buckles at the side that allow you to add just a hint of shape through the waist. It zips all the way up to the high collar and you could of course leave it open as low as you dared. There is a hint of gathered along each side of the zipper. The front is detailed in a soft black leather and here is the nod to the flight suit. Down each side of the middle zipper is a panel of leather that has two zipped pockets and a large soft pouch pocket as well. The leather wraps around the waist and across the upper back. Extra extra long sleeves that can be pushed up the arms, trimmed and finished in leather are the final perfect touch. Excellent condition.

Unlined and zips at the front to close. Tagged a US8. The hem of the pants are stitch finished but not turned up. The very occasional pill on the fabric along the inner arms but extremely minor and unavoidable with this fabric, this is natural wear. Very minor and mentioned for accuracy only. The fabric has stretch and it is supposed to be very oversized. The cut will fit a range of sizes

This wonderful little dress is a testament to the greatness of James Galanos, who was one of the great American Couturiers. Galanos made couture-level dresses and the level of craftsmanship to them that left France’s most esteemed couturiers with their mouths agape. The immaculate construction of a Galanos piece oozed luxury, privilege, and high society (with price points to match). He was a master cutter and he used couture techniques in his work. Here he uses a fine and lightweight silk chiffon. Every detail on it is perfect and every seam is placed to ensure that the dress falls and sits properly once on and that it will flatter the person wearing it. It is extremely light and has a 'floating' feel to it and yet, at the same time it still feels like a properly constructed couture level garment. The fabric is a fine silk chiffon that is knife pleated through the front of the dress, and on the sleeves, with meticulously matched pleat-work. It is cut with a straight line through the body and then this slightly flares out at the hem with the opening of the pleats. The sleeves are fantastic with each of them done in the same knife pleating technique as the front of the dress. The back is a smooth panel of silk chiffon so the shape does not get too voluminous. The perfect final touch are the large, black crystal rhinestone encrusted dome buttons that run down the front of the dress and sit on each cuff. They are the perfect bit of glitz and glamour to offset the refined elegance the dress has. It is an amazing original Galanos piece that is beautifully made. Excellent condition.

Remarkably I believe that this dress has four full layers of silk chiffon in its make up through the body. The sleeves are unlined, but you only see through them when the pleats move slightly to give you a glimpse of the more sheer parts because of the way the pleats are constructed. It buttons  to closes down the front and each cuff has a button. Lots of couture level details and high end finishes.

Jean Muir is renowned for her wonderfully cut clothing and her use of fluid flowing jerseys. This gorgeous little dress is an outstanding example of both of those things with the added bonus of having some of the most amazing buttons I have ever seen on a dress. It is so chic in person. Her dresses really do need a real body under them to show the cut and drape off to full advantage and the dress form never does one full justice. The base fabric is made from her signature jersey and it had a wonderful drape and movement to it. The fabric has been hand screened and painted with colorful dashes done in two tones of blue plus a white. It has an almost forties feel to it with its top stitching and gathered seaming details. The neckline plunges and buttons with amazing, elongated diamond, or marquis shaped, buttons that run down the front. These unique buttons also sit on each cuff. It also has its original slip buckle belt that cinches in the waist. An interesting fact about her pieces - each of her dresses were made one at a time and by one single person start to finish. This singular attention shows in the quality of her garments. Excellent condition

When researching her work I found a photo from 1972 that ran in British Vogue of the same dress in leather. This one was not made with a belt but you could easily add one to get the same feel as the Vogue shot. It's a stunning dress and gives you a better idea of how great this is on the body. Each of her dresses were made one at a time and by one single person start to finish. This singular attention to detail shows in the high quality of her pieces. 

This gorgeous little dress is an outstanding example of Muir's work during this time period. Black is always the hardest to show in a photo and I can tell you that this dress is even better in person. Her dresses really do best with an actual body under them to really show the cut and drape off to full advantage. The dress is made from a fine black wool crepe that has a slight texture running through it. This fabric choice gives it just enough structure to hold the shape she wished it to have. It has that nod to the forties with its pin tucking and top stitching over the upper bodice and those beautiful full sleeves. It buttons down the front to just past the waist with a tightly spaced row of buttons. Finely done rows of pin-tucking adds detailing on either side of the buttons. Banding runs across the shoulders, front and back, and also details the waist. The skirt flares out wonderfully below that. Each sleeve is cut to be very full and ends in a loose fitting elastic that is left quite wide so you really retain the fullness of the sleeve once it is on. Excellent condition

This is the twin jacket of the runway Look 32, from the fall 2002 Prada show and it was shown on Kristina Chrastekova. on the runway. Style.com's review of this show in part said: "In a show that was densely layered with references to the history of fashion, Prada cut a strong, curvaceous and erotically charged line to give grown-ups a whole new reason to buy." The jacket was also heavily photoed for editorial that season, most notably by Mario Testino on Gisele Bundchen in Prada for the September issue of Vogue.

The jacket is made out of American mink that has been pieced together with a complex technique that used little strips of the fur like a fabric. This creates the deconstructed look that you see and gives it a more casual and interesting texture. It is cut to fit slim on the body and ties at the waist to draw in the shape. Hidden pockets sit on each hip. The collar is neat and tidy and the the edges left with an almost raw feeling that has the silk that fur is set in peaking through. The interior is finished with a semi-transparent silk chiffon giving it a very feminine feel. It has never been worn. Excellent condition.

I have a small collection of historically important, key designer labelled vintage furs, fur trimmed & feather pieces stored away in my archives that I will be slowly posting on the site over the next couple of years until I have none left. I will no longer be buying furs for the shop moving forward and have not purchased anything for several years now. I feel like times have changed and while there still is a place for vintage furs for some, including collectors and historians, many modern girls are choosing other options. Many of the pieces in my collection are representative of the designer during a set time period in history that was different then our modern outlook. I have decided that the best course to handle this controversial issue is to let the pieces I have go rather then sit in a cold storage unit. This perfect little black dress is made out of one of Cardin's favorite fabrics, a mid-weight wool that holds the line and design of his dresses exactly as he wished. The has all of the classic Cardin signatures from this time period. The cut is a sculpted A-line with seaming details that define the design. Over-sized, glossy black buttons are placed to highlight the seaming and add detail. The sleeves and hem are finished in a flat braided applique. I love the neckline in particular. It appears to  close completely up the neck with a series of buttons but upon inspection you realize that these are purely decorative. It is a clever bit of seaming and placement of the buttons. The skirt has a rounded pleat that is set just below the waist on either side of the hip at the front. This adds to the shape of the skirt and also adds yet another element to the overall design. Pictures do not do it justice. Cardin pieces are best appreciated when in hand and on the body. Each is cut at a masterful level and this one is no exception. Excellent condition.

This dramatic little dress by Vicky Tiel is just fabulous. It is made up of a graphic black and white dot fabric that sits over an inner structured fitted base that is done in a solid black. This creates a play on the transparency of the different parts. The upper bodice has a plunging inner neckline and I love the curved set of this. Over this is a layer of the silk that is set higher in the front and then plunges at the back to leave it bare. The sleeves are also semi-transparent and are cut long and lean. To balance that, the waist nips in sharply and that is further accentuated by the gathered silk that sits at the waist and down over the top of the hips. The skirt is fitted and short under that. The perfect finish is the huge half bow that sits on one hip. Countless modern pieces right now are based on dresses just like this but this one is an original. Excellent condition.

Fully lined in a black silky rayon and closes with a low back zipper. Very well constructed with the entire inner bodice shaped, boned and fitted. Each sleeve closes with a silk covered button and loop at its cuff.

This is a a wonderful piece in that it can play double duty and be worn as a stand alone piece or layered to act more like a coat. It is from the days when Gianni Versace himself was the head of the atelier and it is everything you want in a Versace piece from this time period. It is constructed from a fine lightweight, black wool. It is cut in one long and lean line that is sculpted to shape the body. It has a slight military vibe to it with its fitted silhouette and top front pockets on both the hip and bust. I love the vertical seaming that runs down the front and back. These follow the curves of the design and emphasize your curves underneath. They also act as a detailing pint as they have a glossy black snakeskin running down each of them for the smallest little touch of texture and shine. The front is finished with a row of black matte buttons and each of these has the gold Versace crest embossed onto them for a touch of gold to break the starkness of the black. These buttons run all the way down the front and allow you to open it fully which gives you that versatility of wearing or open and layered or closed and on its own. Beautifully finished. Excellent condition

This dress and jacket set is gorgeous. I love the fabric especially with its mix of silver and gold on black. It has taken a classic little cut dress and jacket set and turned it into the perfect chic little cocktail number. The cut of both the box jacket and little flared skirt dress is just so classic and timeless it could be from a runway today. The dress has a simple line to it that allows the fabric to take center stage. It is cut to hug the bodice and then the skirt flares out quite a bit as it nears the hem. This is all created by vertical seaming that runs from the waist seam down. The silk has gold and silver thread woven through it with a matte background. This gives it a wonderful texture and the fabric has just enough weight to help keep that structural shape but is still very light. I love the square from neckline and how the upper back is left bare at the back. The jacket is classic box cut that is detailed with the most enormous fabric covered buttons running down the front. It is simplicity mixed with a masterful seaming, cutting and extraordinary fabric. This is from the La Boutique line and is the modern day equivalent of a made to order piece in terms of quality. Excellent condition

The fabric is self-backed. The dress zips to close at the back and the jacket slips on and buttons at the front. Looks to have been worn very little if at all. Note that on the right sized girl the dress does close all the way up at the back - it was just too tiny on the dress form.

Jacques Fath showed his first collection of just twenty garments in the spring of 1937. It was received well and he steadily built a strong clientele, eventually expanding into America. The label was shuttered in 1957 after Fath's death three years earlier. In 1992 the label was revived and for the next ten years or so continued to present runway collections. This dress is from that period in the 1990s and is a wonderful piece. It has a definitive nod to Fath's earlier work with its dramatic silhouette and bias cut lines. The dress is made from a silk that has a touch of nylon worked into the fabric so that it hugs your curves but has a slight amount of give for maximum comfort and perfect fit. The dress is fitted through the bust, curves in the accentuate the waist and from there glides over the hips to cascade to the floor. It is cut supermodel long and the hem is cut to sweep out all the way around so that you get a tremendous amount of movement and it adds to the hourglass effect the dress give you when it is on the body. I love the huge silk bow that the bust is detailed with. It feels like it is wrapped around the bust and then tied into the large bow. The end of the bow extends and curves over the shoulder. At the back, the tiniest, most delicate strap suspends the dress from that bow. It is gorgeous on the body. Excellent condition

This beautiful Yves Saint Laurent set dates to the time period around his famous 1976-77 Russian collection and showcases the care and attention to detail that he put into his work. That, combined with the wonderful color of the set and its unusual fabric treatment of the silk, is what really make this a special piece. It is two separate pieces plus a tie sash belt, which gives the set endless styling potential as they can be worn together or mixed in with other pieces from your wardrobe. The fabric is the star of the show on this set. The silk is a deep fuchsia color with hand painted gold dots covering the surface from top to bottom. This is contrasted by panels of silk used for the underskirts that are in a solid, non-dotted version of the same color. The skirt has three tiers of fabric at the bottom and also has an dropped back hem so that it is longer at the back than the front. This gives it a lovely curving swoop and adds extra movement once on. The top is cut like a light jacket so can be worn as a stand alone piece, tucked in as a shirt as I have shown, or worn layered over something. It buttons down the front and has a gold metallic braiding that edges the seams at the shoulder and neck. Once on and the sash is tied, the set has the feel of a true dress. Excellent condition.

Both the top and skirt are unlined. The skirt closes at the side with a painted zipper and flat hook and eye at the waist. The top buttons to close down the front and has a button and loop at each cuff. A touch of patina to the buttons. The top is tagged a vintage YSL 38, the skirt a 40. Original tie belt. It appears to have never been worn, or worn very little.

This is a fabulous little Emanuel Ungaro dress with the prettiest floral print running over its surface. It somehow manages to be dramatic, sexy and yet pretty and sweet all at once. Ungaro started out as a designer who did very structural and conceptual space age pieces but by the time he started his ready to wear line, Ungaro Parallele, in 1968 he was already starting to soften his look. By the late seventies and early eighties, when this dress is from, his designs had become softer and more body conscious. The dress is superbly fitted without having to be  structured inside to achieve that feel. The sleeveless bodice is cut high and narrow  and angled in towards the high neckline. I love the the soft draped feel of the collar and how this extends into two long ties that you can leave draping down the back as I have done here or tie in a bow at the front or side. The waist nips in and the skirt is cut with a slight fullness through the hips and then narrows as it reached s the hem. The back is fantastic and buttons to close from the neck to the hip. A vent at the back of the skirt allows you to walk. It has it a bit of a forties vibe to it and is very pretty. My client often wore it with the green YSL belt pictured which is also available to purchase in the shop. Excellent condition

Jean Bates designed under the name Jean Varon in 1959 and quickly became a favorite of the British fashion sect. In 1965 one of his dresses was chosen as the 'Dress of the Year' and donated to the Fashion Museum in Bath, the same museum who held a retrospective of his work in 2006. Here he has done a brilliant little dress that is heavily influenced by the love for all things Art Deco during this time period. If it was not such a tiny sized piece I would have it ion my own closet forever. The base color is a creamy ivory and onto that is that gorgeous print in soft peaches and taupe. The dress has a high collar and sleek bodice with a domed gold button at the top of the neck and a second one at the waist. In between the two it is slit open so you get a tiny flash of skin peeking through. The sleeves are capped and the skirt cascades to the floor. I love the black and white striped cord that separates the pattern pieces of the bodice and also circles and defines the waist. The print is cleverly placed to make a girl look super model tall and curved at the same time. Subtle pleats shape the skirt. It is even better on person. Excellent condition

Unlined and closes with a low front painted metal zipper at the waist. It buttons just above that and then at the front neck. It is open between the two buttons. It is very tiny - a true size 0 or maybe even less unless you are very tiny through the bust and rib cage.

This dress is from the Resort 2016 collection from the house of Valentino. During this time period both Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli were acting Creative Directors. It was photoed on Gigi Hadid for the December issue of Vogue that year. as well. Vogue's Nicole Phelps reviewed the collection and said in part:

Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli's design signature by now is familiar. Their simple, covered-up, almost prim silhouettes act like a canvas for the embroidery and beadwork of the Roman house's atelier.... Resort found them scaling back not an inch on the detailing, yet the effect was more folksy than flamboyant. ...The workmanship is close to couture, but Chiuri and Piccioli very much intend their pieces to be worn every day. "We were thinking about freedom, and Diana Vreeland's famous quote, 'The eye has to travel,'" Piccioli said.... Beyond the exquisite beadwork, the loveliest pieces were the subtlest: softly pleated dresses both short and long patchworked from different prints and laces. They'll weigh next to nothing in a carry-on; the lucky girl who wears one will win best dressed no matter her location.

This dress is exactly one of those patchwork creations mentioned above and it is gorgeous. It is made from a combination of netting, silks, wool, printed cottons and lacework. All of which are masterfully mixed into the stunning patchwork design that you see. I love that the back is open with crossed straps in a deep coral orange. It adds an unexpected touch to the dress. The sleeves are long and left unlined so you get a touch of transparency through the mix of fabrics. The skirt is maxi length and widens out as it nears the floor. The mix of fabric here help it to hold its shape wonderfully. This is new with all original tags and has not been worn. Excellent condition with one small note nelow

The front bodice and skirt are lined in a nude silk. The straps that go across the back button into place with hidden set buttons. It sips to close at the back waist. Tagged a 46 but Valentino is cut small so please check actual listed measurements. Original tags. The seam on one side seems to come up a touch so that the seam does not lie perfectly straight. The original retail price of this dress was $11,000.

From the 2016 runway comes this great little Mara Hoffman dress made out of 100% organic cotton. It is cut supermodel long and is that perfect shade of deep ocean green. Her pieces are perfect for vacation and are easy to wear and pack. This one sits off shoulder with elastic running through the neckline for comfort. The waist is banded for shape and then the skirt flows to the floor from there. They are cut extra long so that you can shorten to the perfect length and this one is as it was originally sold. It buttons all the way down the front and there are attached ties that you can use to tighten and cinch the waist. I love the pockets that sit off the sides of the dress. It was never worn. Excellent condition.

This Adele Simpson coat is rather exceptional. It is very well made and has a real richness to it. The leopard print has been applied to a high quality velveteen and the inner lining is a heavy ivory silk. This gives the coat some weight, but just enough that it has that feeling of a very well made piece, rather then making it feel heavy or unwieldy. The leopard print acts like a neutral in that you can pair it with pretty much anything and any color. It closes with a double row of buttons down the front and ties around the waist for added shape. I love the notched collar and nod to a trench coat detailing at the cuffs. It flares out as it reaches the hem and has a back vent for comfort and ease when you walk. Big front flap pockets are the perfect finish, It is quite fabulous. Excellent condition

This Bill Blass dress is a clever combination of a day dress silhouette mixed with all the glam and glitz of a full on sequinned evening piece. It is a classic shift dress that is densely covered in silver sequins. Mixed in with the sequins are strips of silver that give the dress an even greater 3D effect. The sleeves are capped and the bodice cut to glide over your shape. The waist sis seamed but not severely nipped in and the skirt flows over the hips and gently flares out as it nears the hem. It is elegance and high glamour rolled into one. The full on sequin coverage gives it a decent weight but its not so heavy that it uncomfortable to wear. I love that the sequins have a more pewter cast to them which keeps the dress firmly on the side of elegance. It's a good wearable size too. Excellent condition

The Bellville Sassoon label was founded in 1953 by Belinda Bellville but did not officially take on the Bellville Sassoon label until 1970 when David Sassoon, who had been with the company since 1958, took over most of the designing. The label became internationally known when Princess Diana began wearing pieces quite extensively. Countless other celebrities wore the label as well such as Elizabeth Taylor, Jackie Kennedy, Audrey Hephburn, and Madonna. Sassoon's version of the label ran from 1970 -1987.

The dress is wonderful with its classic and flattering one shoulder silhouette. The bodice is fitted and the waist nips in. Its accented by layers of ruffles created from the same silk organza fabric layered over the body of the dress. These pretty ruffles sweep across the bodice and up and over the shoulder, following the slant of the neckline. There are three layers of fabric that make up the ruffles there and this is mimicked on the hem. On the hem the ruffles are set farther apart to balance the length of the skirt above and these too sweep up following the curve of the hem up the slit along the side o the leg. The skirt flares out gently as it nears that gorgeous ruffles hem and the slit up the side shows a little flash of leg when you move. It is beautifully made and so pretty in person. Excellent condition.

Oscar De la Renta began a partnership with the fashion house of Jane Derby in 1965. Jane Derby died shortly after and in 1966 the first labels that bore only the Oscar de la Renta appeared. This label that had Oscar de la Renta for Jane Derby was the label used in those first early years according to the research done by Kent university. That gives us a precise window in which to date this dress and also means it is from the very beginning of his career - prior to Jane Derby he was working under and for other labels but not doing his own accredited design work. The dress is amazing and I am besotted with it. It is the second time I have had a version in the shop, the first time being a blue and silver dot fabric. This time around the dress is a pretty and feminine soft pink silk satin. I love the shape and the simple cut that although it may be simple, the elements used are so fabulous that it ends up being a piece that could still hold its own today. The fabric is sublime and the perfect shade of baby pink. It contrasts wonderfully with the heavily embellished silver accented neckline, waist and hem. The neckline is cut onto a deep V at the from that plunges right down to the embellished waist. A wide band of silver lurex cording, faux pearls and large crystal rhinestones follow the V of the neck and then circle and wrap around the waist. Oscar also embellished the entire hem with this same silver detailing. The photos do not come close to doing it justice - it is even more spectacular in person. Excellent condition

Note that it has a square of fabric that was originally tacked into the base of the V for extra modesty. The original owner removed it but kept it. It will be sent with the dress.

This wonderful dress is made from a bright pink silk taffeta. It is a dramatic statement piece that will turn every head when you walk into a room. Loris Azzaro was a favorite of actresses like Raquel Welch and Sophia Loren and he quickly gained international recognition with his designs. Here he takes the drama of pink to new heights with this bold gown that is just stunning. On my dress form the poufed ruffled detailing that runs across the neckline and over each arm sits more on the top of the shoulder, but on a real girl it will fall off the shoulder as it needs more support then what the dress form could give it to sit properly. This create a beautiful expanse of bare skin across the top of the shoulders. The neckline then plunges down into a deep V on both the front and back. The waist nips in beneath this and then the skirt flows to the floor and widens out as it nears the hem. The bottom poufed ruffle picks up the shoulder detailing and both of those ruffles have an inner construct of tulle so that the incredible shape is kept and the volume he desired is achieved. It is stunning. Excellent condition.

This Malcolm Starr silk chiffon gown is wonderful. The unusual color combination of that soft pink combined with a soft pale yellow is brilliant and the two colors really compliment each other. The dress has a simple and classic cut - it is a simple sheath with a seamed, easy waist line and a long skirt that cascades to the floor. It is sleeveless with a scooped front and slightly lower scoop at the back. The bodice is cut to draping softly over the bodice with an inner foundation that leaves the upper shoulder area covered only in one layer of the silk chiffon. The waist is seamed but cut loose and generously and the skirt cascades to the floor in a column of silk under that, slightly widening out as it nears the hem. The chiffon has a pretty abstract pattern screened onto it in soft lilacs and pinks on an pale yellow. Onto this and following parts of the pattern glass tube beads, paillettes and crystals with a more dense embellishment circling the waist. All are hand applied. The effect is beautiful. This beading is done from shoulder to hem and gives the gown an added bit of high glamour while still keeping that soft, feminine feel. Excellent condition.

This is a beautiful example of Pauline Trigere's work during this time period. The dress comes from its original owner who provided the approximate date that she purchased it.

Trigere was a master at cut and often fitted garments directly on a model. She was also very hands on and the construction of the dress shows this as it is immaculately finished with many hand details. Both the dress and its matching cape are made from a fine silk crepe chiffon.  in a deep blue. Onto that base is a 'fireworks' design in soft pastel colors that graduate from one color to the next as they travel through the swirls and curves of each design. Behind each is a softened, diffused ivory - perhaps to hint at smoke? The pattern covers both pieces and is quite stunning. The body of the dress is cut wide and full with an almost caftan feel to it as it swing out from under the top portion of the dress. The neckline is dipped into a low V at the front and back is cut even lower to leave the back almost completely exposed. Over this lies a gorgeous little capelet that dips down into points at the front and back. It is far, far better in person then how it photoed on a dress form. It is bias cut and really need s a real body in it to show it off best. Excellent condition.

The dress is fully lined in the same silk through the halter top and a blue silk through the skirt. All hand finishes. The dress closes with a low back zipper and the cape slips over the head and buttons at the neck. Bias cut so does have some play

The 1940s feel to this dress is distinctive and it was this feature that allowed me to find the date of the collection. We tracked down a photo of Karl with a model in 1974 wearing a dress from that years collection that has that same 1940s feel to it that as we see on this example. The date also matches what I was told about the purchase date by the original owner. It is these collections during the years between 1969 and 1975 that we still see heavily influence the modern bohemian feel of Chloe today. Examples of his work during this time period are held in museums around the world and are rare finds.

At first glance you would think this is a dress straight off the 1940s runway. It has that same cut and feel and even the silk used has that feel of the early crepe silks. You can see the more modern touches (for 1974 that is) with the black lace that edges the sleeves and finishes the hemline. In person it is even better then how it photoed as you can really get lost in that gorgeous print of dragonflies, flowers and butterflies that cover the entire surface. The cut is classic forties in feel with a loose and easy fitting bodice whose cap sleeves are en extension of the fabric used for the bodice itself. So there are no seams there to break the line or disrupt the pattern. The skirt under that falls just past the knee and is also cut to be loose and easy. At the hips on either side sit bows that combine a matching printed fabric with a coral silk that add detail and a touch of volume there. The dress is made from a  fine black silk that has  that wonderful design screened over it surface in a way that give it the appearance that it was hand painted. It came with its matching fabric tie that you can use to cinch in the waist or tie around the neck. Excellent condition

The painted floral design used on this dress is distinctive and it was this feature that allowed me to find the date of the collection. We tracked down some photos of Karl in the studio with models wearing pieces from the 1972 collection and you can see that there are similar design elements used on the various floral pieces in those photos as we see on this example. This information also matches what I was told about the purchase date form its original owner. This dress is wonderful. In person it is even better then how it photoed as the painted floral print really explodes off of the blue silk backdrop. The cut is kept fairly simple but is still sexy with a halter bodice and a long skirt that falls to the floor. The dress is made from a light, bias cut silk chiffon. Onto the silk is a vivid floral design that appears to be hand painted. Beautiful bright blossoms circle around the base of the skirt and travel almost up to the hips at the highest points of the design. The bodice is left the solid blue so that the eye is drawn instantly to the print on the skirt. The top is cut into a halter style with straps that curve up and behind the beck to leave the shoulders bare. The front neckline dips into a V at the front and the  back is left completely bare. The waist narrows in and then the skirt flows to the floor from there, gradually widening out as it nears the hem. This allows the design to be shows off to its full advantage. It came with its matching, extra long, scarf that has the same print on both ends in a matching silk chiffon. I have shown both ends on the two photos that it is included in. Excellent condition

Fully lined in a blue silk and closes with a side painted metal and nylon zipper. I see one small repair near the edge of the hem that is not seen when on because of the excess of fabric. Hand finishes throughout. The long edges of the scarf are hand rolled and the shorter edges finished with a fringed edging.

The combination of fabric and texture in this Oscar de la Renta dress is wonderful. The result is so pretty and romantic.. The bodice of the dress is purple silk chiffon that has a fine gold lurex thread worked through  it, done in a floral design that accents the print there. This gives the upper part of the dress a subtle shimmer. The bodice is cut to skim over the torso with a high scooped neckline. The sleeves are capped and cut with just a bit of volume. The waist is seamed but cut fairly loose and there is a netted sash that came with the dress that you can use to cinch it in for more shape. Below that the skirt falls to the ground and widens out as it nears its hem. The added space this gives the skirt shows off the print that covers the lower skirt. Onto the skirt is a floral garden print that has the appearance of being hand painted onto the silk. Fused velvet is used are to give some of the flowers in the print a touch of a 3D quality to them and adds yet another texture. Hidden pocks set along each hip are the final perfect touch on this beautiful dress. Excellent condition with a small note to review below

The dress is lined in a nude silk, with the sleeves left unlined. It closes at the back with a painted metal & nylon zipper. There is a purple net sash that came with the dress. Each cuff snaps to close. The skirt appears to be hand dyed and the color along one seam is the tiniest touch lighter. I think this is a natural occurence of the silk and technique used. I have photoed it for accuracy bit think its irrelevalnt

This wonderful strapless dress from Lanvin has a pretty and unusual design. It is made form a black silk that has enough weight to hold the shape intended. The bodice is strapless and lightly boned for structure. It has a high peaked front that sits over an inner structure to hold you in place. This peaked bust line scoops down at its center and is held in place by a small knot of silk so that the bodice has the look of a bow wrapped around you. The waist nips in and the skirt flares out from there. The skirt is quite interesting as it is actually made from two layers. There is an inner fitted pencil skirt that is a combination of a black silky rayon lining around the hips and then the bottom of that inner skirt is the same silk as the rest of the dress. Over this is a much fuller skirt that is shaped and cut to have the perfect amount of volume. It is very pretty.. Excellent condition.

Fully lined in black silky rayon and closes with a back painted metal and nylon zipper. The bodice is lightly boned. A single layer of tulle sits at the hip between the two layers of the skirt for added shaping. There is the tiniest bit of shininess from over pressing to the back zipper area and some seaming but very minimal.

She was also very hands on and the construction of the dress shows this as it is immaculately finished with many hand details. The dress is made from a very fine, light bias cut ivory silk. Onto this is a design of green dots who graduate in size from small to large as the travel down the length of the dress. The pattern gets denser too so by the time it reaches the hem you feel like the dress has switched to green with white accents, rather then a white with a green design. It has a matching fabric tie belt to nip in waist. The body of the dress is cut wide and full otherwise and has an almost caftan feel if worn without the belt. The neckline is dipped into a V at the front and back is slit from the neck to below the waistline. The hem is finished into four little points. It is far better in person then how it photoed. Presents as excellent but does have a small note to review below.

Fully lined in an ivory silk. All hand finishes. The dress closes with a three silk covered buttons at the back and is slit open to well past the waist below that, once you tie it this gets closed. The belt is a simple fabric sash in the same silk. Note  that there is the faintest bit of yellowing under the arms. It was hard to even capture. Entirely wearable as is. The bias cut make the range extremely flexible so will fit almost any size. The more room you need through the body the more he length will shorten up as the fabric raises on the bias

Pierre Balmain began his career at Molyneux where he worked part-time until 1936. After a brief stint serving he moved to the house of Lucian Lelong. He eventually made the leap to independence and is first show was held on October 12th, 1945 at his salon in rue Francois 1er.

This caftan dress is a beautiful example of the work being produced for the RTW label during this time period. The silk  that the dress is made out of is a fine, printed Thai silk. In the 1970s some of the best silks to be found on the planet was coming out of Thailand. The colors are still as bright and true as they would have been the day it was made. The dress has the easy to wear cut of a caftan with it wide sleeves and generous cut through the body. The sleeves are cut shorter and then widen out as they near their cuff. The cuffs are detailed with rows of slightly padded top stitching to add structure and texture. That same padded quilting technique is used to detail the collar and neckline at the front where a series of silk covered buttons and loops allow you to button it up for a high neck or leave open for a bit of skin to show. The print is brilliant and that wonderful floral print has been done using bright primary colors to cover the entire dress top to bottom. Excellent overall condition with one item to note in the condition description below.

Fully lined in a white silk and closes down the front with silk covered buttons and loops. There is a tiny break on the fabric and a light smudge on the top bodice - please see the photo provided. Once on, the color and pattern make this a non-issue but it is mentioned for accuracy. Pockets along the hips. Hand finishes

This is an amazing example of Stephen Burrows work and it feels as relevant today as it would have when it was made. The dress is made of a fine, slinky red jersey that is suspended from two tiny straps at the shoulder and falls from there in a beautiful bias cut that and ends with an angled, asymmetrical hem that leaves one leg more bare. The edges of the dress are finished in his signature lettuce hem seaming. It is the bodice that is truly spectacular - it is fully hand beaded across the bust and down the center front with an explosion of bright tube beads, seed beads and pearls. All of the bead work has been applied by hand. You can clearly see this is the case on the back side of the fabric. Burrows was the first African American fashion designer to really achieve international recognition for his work. He won three Coty awards; in 1973, 1974 and 1977. He was also one of the five American designers to show at Versailles in 1973 when America was pitted against the French couturiers. The dress presents as great condition but does have some flaws. Please review the condition notes below

Recently, the first major examination of Burrows' work was held and was aptly titled; 'When Fashion Danced'. Here is what the museum said of his work: "Stephen Burrows: When Fashion Danced looks at the period spanning the 1970s when Stephen Burrows’s meteoric rise to fame made him not only the first African-American designer to gain international stature, but a celebrated fashion innovator whose work helped define the look of a generation. With vibrant colors, metallic fabrics, and slinky silhouettes that clung to the body, Burrows’s danceable designs generated a vibrant look that was of a piece with the glamorous, liberated nightlife of the era. Through photographs, drawings, and original garments, the exhibition will trace Burrows’s evolution from creating eclectic looks for his friends in the 1960s to his work with the chic 57th Street retailer Henri Bendel to the floor of Studio 54, as he dressed such 70s style icons as Cher, Liza Minnelli, and Diana Ross."

Unlined and slips over the head with no closures. The fabric does have stretch so will accommodate a range of sizes - the comfortable range of that stretch when laying flat is noted in the measurements. There are a series of repairs - one to the mid back, several running down the seam and along the hem of one side and the back and a couple teeny ones near the front hem - all photoed. There is is a small spot near the beading at the bodice and one at the front hem. Where the repairs are at the back there is light scuffing to the jersey and some small marks. These are normally priced at $1200 so the pricing reflects condition. The dress presents extremely well and once on you would not notice the flaws it does have.

Richard Blackwell launched his label in the late 1950s and even at that time his dresses sold for between $800 and $1000 (or up to $10,000 in the modern terms). He dressed many of the big stars of the day including Jane Russell, Dorothy Lamour and Jayne Mansfield. His 'custom' line was the pieces that were made to order, and were one of a kind pieces that were fitted to a specific client in the couture tradition.

This dress is from the custom part of his atelier and is a wonderful example of his work. It is a wonderful dress and rarely do such fine examples of this time period, and with this level of glamour, come to market anymore. This comes directly from the original client who kept it on pristine condition. The cut is simple but dramatic because of the amazing front inset and embellishment. The dress is cut in a simple, long sheath black sheath and the black is a medium weight wool crepe jersey so it holds the intended shape very well and gives the dress structure without having to have a lot of seaming. The sleeves are long and straight. The dress skims over the torso and glides into a touch of shape at the waist. It then falls to the floor in a column that gently widens as it nears the hem below that. The front of the dress has a nude silk inset that is backed by an opaque silk so it gives the illusion of being see-through from a distance but you are entirely covered. This is then densely covered in an angular pattern created by hand placed large glass crystal rhinestones, clear seed beads and rows of faux pearls. They have a raised 3D effect and give the otherwise simple dress a high level of glamour. The illusion that it is slit to below the hips adds a touch of sexiness despite the wearer being completely covered. It is amazing. Excellent condition.

I am obsessed with the velvet pieces that Pucci was creating in the 1960s and 1970s. The depth of color he could achieve with this fabric and the richness it creates is wonderful. Of course, among vintage collectors, his velvets have always been one the most prized to find. This is a two piece set and each of the two pieces are equally strong whether they are worn together or as separates. The pants are flat fronted with a sleek and simple waist. They zip to close at the back with a  hand set, painted metal zipper. This sleek cut gives them a great fit and really allows the print that covers them to be shown off. The pants are cut quite wide and by the hem, each is full 24" around. The fabric choice holds their shape beautifully. The tunic that tops the pants slips on and zips to close at the back. It is just long enough that you could get away with wearing it as a micro mini if you dared. I love the slightly cropped sleeves that have a wide cut to them, mimicking the cut of the pants. You can easily wear it on its own without anything under it or layer it over other pieces. The colors in the velvet are fabulous. Both pieces have that classic Pucci print in shades of pinks and purples and are finished with squares of color around the edges, all set on their sides to give you a diamond pattern. It looks to have never been worn. This is a very rare and wonderful set. Excellent condition with one small item to note below

The tunic/mini dress is fully lined in a white silky rayon and closes with a hand set, back painted metal zipper covered buttons at the front and cuffs. There are 6.5" slits running up each side of the tunic at the seam. The pants are lined in the same white silky rayon and close with a painted metal zipper at the back. The set looks to have never been worn but does have a small, faint area where the white has yellowed slightly on one part of the print at the back waist. I suspect it was not properly stored. I have photoed it and it is very minimal but mentioned for accuracy.

I have had a matching under dress to this robe in the shop ages ago and it was interesting to find the over piece after all these years. The John Kloss for Circa line is actually a lingerie line. Because of that fact, many of the pieces you find have a semi-sheerness to them, whereas others like this one, are more opaque  which makes them more wearable for a modern girl. John Kloss was a contemporary of Ossie Clark and he also often used historical references in his work. This would make for a great layering piece that you can wear indoors as originally intended or as a piece over other pieces while out. The robe cascades down from the shoulders and I love the tie gathering across the upper bodice. This both ties it into place once on and adds in interesting detail. Kloss was genius at choosing extremely high quality nylons that draped exactly as he wished and this high quality always shows with his pieces. Excellent condition.

George Stavropoulos was known for his evening wear and his signature looks often involved draping and the use of multiple layers of silk done on a bias cut. He focused on cut and fabric to convey the beauty of each piece. It was said that his gowns "seemed to float on air". He launched his label in 1960 and soon was dressing women like Elizabeth Taylor, Jackie Kennedy, Barbra Streisand and Maria Callas. His dresses were made by hand and to couture standards. By the early 1980s a gown by him started at around $8500 and they went up in cost from there - that starting price point equals to around $26,000US in today's dollars. So when you buy a vintage Stavropoulos gown you are getting incredible value for your money. The only reason his work is not under the Haute Couture category is because he was not an official member of the association.

I love the light and airy feel of the dress that is created by the yards and yards of silk chiffon used in its construction. Working in this type of fabric is already difficult and this would have taken many hours of work to execute the making of this dress by hand. The silk is cut on the bias and this gives it a lovely movement and makes it very comfortable to wear once on the body. The bodice is made up of two attached pieces, an inner, more fitted top that is suspended from the shoulders by two tiny little silk straps and a loose and billowy caped overlay. The caped overlay is cut on a curve that it attached along the waist lines and then curves up with slits for your arms and then curves back in towards the neckline. A slit runs from the neckline to mid-back at the back. It blouses over the waist when on and it creates a very pretty effect with its slight transparency. The waist is nipped in. Below that the skirt is made up of five full layers of silk chiffon, all cut on the bias to have full movement and drape. It widens out to be quite full by the time it reaches the hem so that when you move you get an unexpected bit of volume. It is very beautiful. Excellent condition

The lines on this little black dress are pure Yves Saint Laurent for this time period. The dress is made from a combination of a inky black velvet that he has used for the upper bodice, a semi-transparent lace through the mid-riff area and a bandage like jersey knit for the skirt. At the front the neckline dips very low to meet the lace inset that runs around the center of the dress. The sleeves are long and slim with zippers at each cuff. The back is amazing with a button at the nape of the neck and a slit  from there to the top of the lace inset. Four more buttons are set along the length of the inset and the way they are set allows for little gaps between each. This gives you a line of skin showing that runs from the neck to the top pf the buttocks and it is insanely sexy. The waist is a black lace that is backed with a nude silk chiffon so has just a hint of transparency to it. The skirt is slim and fitted. As good as it looks on a dress form, on a real body it really comes alive. Excellent condition

Lillie Rubin was a label based out of Miami and was launched in 1946. They continued to produce clothing until 1990 when they were bought out by Cache and the Lille Rubin label was retired. They tended towards evening wear and more dressy pieces. This 1970s dress is a little unusual for them as it is more laid back then some of their pieces from this time period. I love its easy styling and tie dye print that runs over the silk in a mix of pinks and creams. The dress is cut to float over the body and without the belt on has an almost caftan cut to it. The silk chiffon that it is made from is very light in weight and adds to the airy feeling of the piece. The neck is cut quite wide across the shoulders for a little peek of collarbone. The sleeves are cut full and have a loose elastic at the ends of each of them that you can tie to adjust. Each sleeve is slit open down the sides. They fall just below the elbows. The waist is open and loose unless you cinch it with the matching fabric tie belt. The overall effect is very pretty and it is very easy to wear. Excellent condition.

Fully lined in a second layer of the same silk chiffon through the bodice and skirt. The sleeves are left unlined. It slips over the head to wear with a button and loop at the top of each shoulder. This wonderful pink silk voile dress is from the Nina Ricci Boutique ready to wear line. When hunting for a reference to date it by, I happened across a photo from 1976 that has a Ricci dress in a very similar print, color and ruffle trim finish. The Ricci atelier was launched in Paris in 1932, Ricci retired from designing in the early 1950s and then Jules Francois Crahay headed the design team until he left for Lanvin in 1963. That makes this dress land in the era of Gerard Pipart who took over from Crahay and stayed on with Ricci until 1998.

This wonderful dress is made out of a fine silk voile, one of my favorite fabrics as it holds color exceptionally well and it is very light in weight but still has a touch of structure to it. This unique combination creates volume where it is required, without adding unnecessary bulk. The dress is very pretty & feminine and  it is cut with a simple hostess dress feel to it which was a popular look for that time period. The bodice has a small ruffle finish around the V of the neck and is left with a touch of transparency through the upper shoulders, back and sleeve. The waist is seamed and under that the skirt billows out with light and airy fullness. The skirt is made of yards and yards of silk that drapes perfectly into place as it flows to the ground. The back of the skirt is cut just slightly longer then the front which gives it a pretty sweep.  I love the little ruffle trim that sits at the end of each cuff and also details the waist and lower tier of the skirt, effectively tying together all the elements of the dress. It is very pretty and feminine. Excellent condition

This Geoffrey Beene wrapped coat is fabulous with its bright contrast of that hot pink silk satin against the heavy black silk base. The collar, cuffs and the inner edge of the coat are finished with  a vivid pink and that shot of bright color combined with the dramatic lines of the coat are wonderful. The coat wraps to close and is cinched in at the waist. The skirting below the waist flares out to an extreme fullness that is very flattering on. The collar is cut to be oversized and the color draws the eye to create a strong focal point. I love that each cuff is finished with that same pink fabric. Both the collar and cuffs are top stitched in rows for a little extra detail. It is cut so that you could get away with wearing this on its own as a dress, but if you do layer it over something else, you will love the unexpected pop of color that runs down the inner edges on both sides at the front. It is just gorgeous and a wonderful example of his earlier work. Excellent overall condition with notes to review below.

Fully lined in a black silk and closes along the waist with hook & eye. Hand finished through out and extremely well made. It presents as being in great condition but has some tiny things to note. There is a touch of wear to each cuff where the fabric folds (see photos) and there is a touch of fading/discoloration along the top of the collar from improper storage (photoed) and where each cuff folds. Otherwise excellent. Priced accordingly. Note the pink is ore a Barbie pink in person and better then how it photoed.

I have had a version of this dress in a different print and I love this brighter, bolder jersey version just as much. A similar dress is part of the permanent collection at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and was displayed in the 2013 exhibit "Hippie Chic.  Other versions of the dress also reside in The Met's collection. That one has with a shorter skirt length and different pattern. The cut is otherwise the same.

The Fall/Winter 1971-72 collection took its inspiration from the Medieval time period and many of the pieces in the collection had this influence, including this one. Sant' Angelo was the winner of two Coty Awards and two Council of Fashion Designers of America honors and was known for his innovation and pioneering use of stretch fabrics. Here we have a dress that really showcases his love of color and his mastery of mixing color with print. The fabric he chose for the dress is a very wearable and easy to care for jersey. It has a touch of a stretch to it that makes it very comfortable to wear. His signature piping finishes the neck and the multiple patterns are masterfully layered over each other in tiers through the body and over the waist. The sleeves are amazing and made of two tiers of fabric that sit over each other to mimic the tiers used on the body of the dress. The mix of that clear, true red with that brilliant blue is amazing and even better on person. Sant' Angelo once said, "I am not a fashion designer but an artist who works in fashion engineer of color and form". This dress shows us how true that statement was. Excellent overall condition with a note to review below.

Unlined and closes with a back painted, hand set metal zipper. I see a couple of tiny nicks on the front skirt. They are lost in the pattern and are stable so have been left as found. There is minor fading along the shoulders and on the sleeves and sides.

This ivory silk Malcolm Starr dress is stunning. It has Elinor Simmons name on the label as well who was a young designer that Malcolm brought in to the company to design a higher end line for him in 1965. She eventually left in 1972 giving us a window within to date her work for the label from. Everything about this dress suggest the 1960s.

I have had versions of this dress before in a shorter length but I truly love this skirt length that would fall somewhere between ankle and mid-calf depending on your height. It allows for the perfect coordinating shoe to peek out and just a glimpse of the ankle to show. It is made from is a beautiful ivory silk with a very subtle weave to it that gives it just a touch of texture and enough weight to it that it holds that gorgeous line you see. The dress is cut with an almost baby doll silhouette to the bodice and below that the skirt widens out beautifully as it reaches the hem. The waist line is high and the collar and front are heavily embellished. The work down to the shoulders, collar and down the front is incredible. Sparkling rhinestones and crystals are placed and attached by hand and and among a curving design made up from silk cord that is also hand placed. These catch the light beautifully and perfectly offset the ivory. The perfect finishing detail is that the along each side seam of the front skirt are little hidden pockets. Excellent overall condition with one condition note to review below.

Fully lined in a white silk and closes with a back painted metal zipper. I see no missing stones. Hidden snap under the front V that you can close or leave open. It was a touch too small on the dress form and will sit better on the right sized girl. Front pockets along the seam. Hand finished. There is a very faint water mark on the back left shoulder (photoed and looks worse on the shot then it does in person - it is fainter in person) and one tiny, faint yellowish mark on the front left below the pockets. Priced at a good deal lower then it would normally be but I feel it is wearable as is still as these are barely noticeable once on. The color is more ivory on person - closer to the detail pics then the full length ones. Better in person overall.

Pauline Trigere is one of my favorite designers and I love that she always has some quirky little touch in most of her work. For this dress that detail is found in the sleeves which are just incredible. They are cut very full near their base and then caught up and under so you get even more fullness. The silk used to construct the dress is beautiful and I love the contrast of colors between the green and the bright, patterned stripes of color. The neck line is high with an attached scarf finish that you can wrap and tie as you wish. The top is cut loose and easy to skim over the bodice and the waist left slightly full with an elastic, comfortable finish to give it some shape. It has its original belt to add more shape and the finish of the belt gives a nice contrast. The skirt is cut so that it flares out as it nears the hem and I love how the stripes are set to meet at the center seam from neck to hem. The dress presents as excellent but does have some small condition issues described in the notes below.

Unlined and closes with a metal and nylon zipper at the back. Padded shoulders and attached ties at the neck. Elastic through the waist  and bias cut silk allows for some flexibility in sizing. The belt is in a grosgrain ribbon base and closes with a  combo of flat hooks and a snap. There is slight fading to the shoulders (the worst one is shown in photo 9) and some light marks in the fabric at the front (photo 8). The pattern and color help to hide these and it is otherwise perfect. Priced dramatically lower as a result. This dress has tons of solid wear to it still. The final included detail photo (10) shows sleeve construction

The Spring 2005 Prada show is one of the label's most iconic and recognizable. In her review of the show, Vogue's Sarah Mower stated: "Just when the whole fashion world has turned ladylike—thanks, of course, to Miuccia Prada—she's tossed it all in the air, looking for a certain freedom. "A vague idea of birds; birds of vanity, like peacocks, parrots, and swans," was a starting point in her restless search for change, she explained. "I also wanted to move toward something more young and sporty, tall and narrow.... In broad terms, the news from Prada included a different silhouette (short hemlines, worn mostly with flat sandals), a return to one of her favorite palettes (brown-ochre-rust), and as always, lots of artful eccentricity (peacock feathers, flowerpot hats, Bakelite digital watches). There was also a Jamaican dance hall vibe, with reggae on the sound system, Rasta stripes in the knitwear, and Caribbean crochet in the raffia hats and cardigan coats. The birds really took flight for night, in the form of skirts overlaid with peacock feathers, dresses covered with digitalized feather prints, and pretty chiffon gowns whose fan-like pleats hinted subtly at dove's wings."

This is Look 22 from the show and is absolutely infused with that Prada vibe. Here we see her masterful hand at mixing textures with color. The top of the dress is a combination of eggplant and purple, anchored by an almost startling strip of red at the waist. A bright purple grosgrain ribbon details the sides of the bodice. The skirt is a combination of a deep brown and a moss green pleated & textured silk chiffon. The cut is micro mini short and the skirt has lots of movement and it is just gorgeous. The silk chiffon it is made from is feather light and it is given shape and structure by the addition of two rows of horizontal stitching placed over the hips. The top is a light weigh wool and I love the contrast of fabrics. The one shoulder silhouette balances the length of the skirt nicely and the unusual color combination is fabulous.  Excellent condition

I love this dress by Thierry Mugler with its sculptural bodice that gives it a sense of high drama. That is in direct contrast to the white cotton pique that it is made of and it is this contrast that makes the dress so fabulous. It is also a wonderful summer piece that still feels fresh and of this season despite its vintage heritage. The bodice is fitted and sculpted with that fabulous curving cut out at its edge. It has interior boning to help mold it to your frame and the waist is cinched in. The skirt below is cut in an asymmetrical line at its hem that has the front center point dipping lower then the sides or back do. It is also extremely full with yards and yards of fabric in it and the sweep extends beyond that of a full circle skirt. The fabric is a chic little waffle weave pique cotton and its a quirky little play on the summer dress that is very flattering. Excellent condition with a tiny note below.

Lined through the bodice with the same fabric and boned for support. It closes with a series of  snaps up the back. Pockets on each hip. There is the slightest tiniest hint of yellowing to the fabric that is a from natural aging. It does not really affect the dress but mentioned for accuracy.

Laura Ashley was a Welsh fashion designer who started making Victorian style, printed headscarves in 1953 with fabric she printed herself at her kitchen table. By 1961, she and her husband had opened their first shop, and by 1966 started to make the dresses she became known for. This dress is from a little later in their timeline and the date was verified by a follower on my Instagram who wore a pink version in 1985 to their prom.

It has that nostalgic feel to it that all the best of her work has. It is an interesting combination of a more formal silhouette but the fabric it is made from is a cotton. This gives it an interesting mix. The dress is strapless with a fitted and boned bodice that is finished with a small ruffled that runs around its upper edge. It dips into a sharp V at the front waist and then under that is one of the most fabulous skirts I have seen. I have styled it over a light crinoline but it has room to be far fuller even then how it looks and even with no crinoline the sheer volume of fabric gives it a wonderful fullness. It is made up of two layers, the inner layer that is a solid white cotton with a deep ruffle hem hidden under the top layer and then over that is a second layer of cotton. That top layer has that same ruffled edge finish as the bodice dies and is gathered up into little lifts all the way around the skirt. Each lift is finished with a tied bow and another bow ties just above that. This would make a gorgeous summer party dress, or even a wedding dress for someone not looking for a traditional gown. Excellent condition 

The bodice is lined in the same fabric and boned for support. It closes with a back metal and nylon zipper. It appears to have been worn very little if at all. The white is crisp and true.

This dress is from a recent Alexander McQueen collection and the original retail was well over 4K. The dress is gorgeous. It is made from a beautifully weighted silk satin that has that same liquid feel the the best of the 1930s pieces did that were made from this same fabric. Like those dresses of the thirties this is also cut on the bias but with a more shaped silhouette. It is cut to flow over the body with a nipped in waist for shape and a V neckline at the front. The skirt flows and hugs the hips and then flares out in a wonderful soft draping at the lower hem that gives you fabulous movement when you walk or move. The sleeves are cut with a full kimono style drop sleeves. This adds a high sense of drama to the dress. The perfect finishing touch are those wide cream silk bands that run around the bottom hem of the skirt and around each wide cut sleeve. That touch of graphics with the contrast between the black and cream is spectacular. Excellent condition.

The fabric is self backed and it closes with a low set, hidden set zipper at the back and a hook & eye at the top of the back opening. Bias cut but the waist is seamed and has no give. The inner edge of the seam is open like a traditional kimono sleeve. Note that it would fully zip at the back on a girl a bit smaller then my dress form. Tagged a modern 38. It appears to have never been worn, or worn very little

This dress has a bit of a Loris Azzaro Feel to it with that wonderful jewelry collar. At first glance you would almost think that it was one of his his signature pieces. It has that same looped keyhole type neckline with heavy embellishment to it like some of his most famous dresses did. This slightly simpler version is made from a fluid silver-grey jersey that drapes fantastically. The color perfectly off-sets the detailing at the neck. It is gathered up and around the bodice with the gathers there converging into the center keyhole. The upper shoulders and back are left bare. The skirt cascade from just below the bust line to flow to the floor, gently widening out as it nears the hem. The neckline is of course, the center piece of the dress. It curves up and around the neck and the straps are completely encrusted with densely set faux pearls, rhinestones and beads. Presents as excellent condition with a small note to review below

Fully lined in a matching grey silky rayon and closes at the back with a painted metal and nylon zipper. There is some light scuffing/grubbiness along the hem and on the inner neckline and the occasional very faint mark on the jersey. A couple of beads missing near the hook and eye of the halter that you can see in the label photo. Nothing that detracts when on but present when laid out flat and inspected.
