Shockingly sexy and brilliantly constructed this 1980s Thierry Mugler is a masterpiece of draping and cut. The entire bodice is constructed of a black silk chiffon over an inner foundation. This is draped over the body and hand gathered and placed to give the effect that it is wrapped around the body and creates and emphasizes a girl's curves. The bodice drapes across the bust and a panel of fabric extends up to create a single shoulder effect and then wraps and hooks into place around the neck. This then extends down the back in a floating panel of fabric that you can leave long or wrap more around the neck. The back is otherwise left completely bare. The hips are also wrapped in silk and the front cut very high and short. To offset the shortness of the skirt panels of semi-sheer silk chiffon are added to drape on the bias around the legs with a bit of a saucy flip at the hem for movement. It is very femme fatale and one can easily image this stomping down the runway in Thierry's vision of women who combined strength, sexiness and power. It is the perfect mix of scandalous and class with a bit of edginess and still feels extremely relevant today.
Fully lined in silk, with a built in corset that closes with corset weight hooks. It then zips to close at the low back. There is an intricate closing of the various draping panels and the neck which all wrap and snap into place with hidden snaps. Tagged a 40 but of course, please check actual measurements.

This is a great little jersey piece by the Don Luis label. It has a really sexy vibe to it and a bit of an Ossie Clark feel to it in the cut. The washable jersey fabric is printed with a bold, tropical feeling design with huge flowers and feathers on a cream backdrop. The upper portion of the bodice plunges into a deep V that meets the banded and high waistline. The back is left almost entirely bare with a fantastic cut out effect. This is balanced by full sleeves that pouf out above each cuffed wrist. Below that defined waist band the skirt swings out on a soft, bias cut A-line. It is just absolutely stunning and I love the pop of the bright yellow piping that highlights all the design elements in the dress. Excellent condition.
Unlined and closes with a low back zipper and hook & eye behind the neck. Each cuff snaps to close.

This caftan dress is just amazing. It's made of a beautiful pink very light wool mix upon which are two patterns - one embroidered in a matching pink thread and the other in a gold lame thread. The effect of the gold on the pink is stunning and the fabric choice gives the caftan a little more weight and substance then it more usual silk or cotton counterparts. The embroidery work is all hand done and I can't even begin to imagine the hours that would have went into this fabric. I love the high collar and wide, forgiving cut. The fabric simply flows to the floor widening as it reaches the hem. There is actually yards and yards of fabric in this piece. Each sleeve is cut wide with both the cuffs and collar finished with a pink piping. It is very chic and simple and yet in no way is it simple at all. Excellent condition.
Unlined and closes with a back nylon and metal painted zipper. Pockets along each side at the hip. There is a teeny bit of thinning on the piping around the neck in a couple of spots bit this does not detract and it is priced accordingly.

I absolutely love Treacy Lowe pieces. She always used the lightest, finest silk gauze's and sheer silk chiffons that you can possibly use before you have nothing in your hands at all. These are fabrics that are almost impossible to work with and one can only imagine the hours of hand work that went into each. In my opinion it is one of the most over-looked labels in vintage and her pieces really should sell for far more. Her fabric choice with this fine silk means that even a voluminous dress like this weighs only a few ounces and feel like nothing else when worn. The caftan was all the rage in the seventies and has stayed a mainstay since. This beautiful example is made up of yards and yards of silk that flow to the ground in a cascading column of fabric. The sleeves are left unlined and are very wide and cut and set on an angle giving them an almost kimono feel. The fabric is custom screened and the design is a exotic print that cover every inch. I love the contrasting edging on the bottom hem and each sleeve. It has its original belt so you can leave it loose and easy or cinch for added shape. The silk chiffon is the the finest Indian silk you could get at that time. Excellent condition.
Fully interlined through the body in a pink tissue silk. The sleeves are left unlined. It closes with a back metal and nylon zipper. Original fabric tie belt. The caftan cut will allow for a variety of sizes.

This wonderful piece from Oleg Cassini is an absolute dream and begs to go dancing. It simply pops over the head and the easy shape and bias cut fabric settles over the body in a way that is infinitely flattering. The dress has a very simple cut - it is basically a chic little twenties inspired sheath but one that is densely covered with dangling strands of tube beads and sequins. The bodice has a flattering scoop neck and the back is also scooped a little lower. The beads that cover the dress are sewn on in little independent strands so create tremendous movement and a glossiness to the surface. They sit on a gold base and there is second layer of black silk chiffon under that so the dress has this great combination of beads on a light fabric - again giving it wonderful movement, drape and stretch. Very old Hollywood mixed with that perfect ease and sexiness of the eighties. Excellent condition.

Leonard Paris is a label that was a contemporary of Emilio Pucci but Leonard dresses tend to be a touch softer and more draped versions of the Pucci look for the most part. This one is a stunning example of that and a delicious combination of vivid print on a jet black backdrop. I love the simple collared neckline that has a slight cowl effect and the gathered shoulders that add a little extra detail. It has the signature contrasting panel of design that finishes the cuffs, neckline and hem. The top drapes softly over an elastic waist that makes it incredibly easy to wear as is or you can add a belt to cinch it in further and define the shape more. The skirt flows to the floor in a swath of silk jersey. It is easy to travel with and the cut is very flattering and forgiving on a variety of sizes. The dress is a strong statement piece and yet still chic now. Excellent, appears unworn condition!
Unlined and closes with a hand set, back nylon & metal zipper. Elastic through the waist and the fabric is signed throughout.

I love the combination of jersey and ruffles on this dress combined with the slinky feel and sexy backless cut. The dress itself is made of a deep navy blue jersey so has a wonderful drape and fall to it once on the body. The halter sweeps up and around the neck, hooking into place. Encircling the neck and running down the line of the scooped front is a double band of a cream silk organza cut and sewn to create a fabulous ruffled effect. The back is left completely bare and the waist is left undefined - the dress simply falls from the neckline into a gradually widening column of fabric. It is quite fabulous and I love the mix of the two fabrics that you don't normally see together. Just more evidence of Beene's genius. Excellent condition.

A fabulous 1970s Leonard maxi dress made of his signature silk jersey fabric that gives these dresses the perfect drape and fit. Each of his designs were made of customs designed fabrics and during this time period especially they were all the most gorgeous color palettes like this mix of bright tropical flowers on a deep navy backdrop. I love the fitted cut through bodice and sleeves that hugs your curves and perfectly balances that wonderful skirt that flows to the floor in a swoop of bias cut jersey. There is an incredible amount of fabric through the skirt which allows for more of that pretty design to be seen whenever you move. I love the high neck and signature contrasting borders that define the neckline, cuff and hem. A real little beauty. Excellent condition.

Alfred Shaheen produced the fabrics used in his designs and manufactured them as well - all from Honolulu and later expanding into California during the seventies - the time period that this garment was made. He was perhaps the best known of all the brands coming out of Hawaii that emerged to meet the growing demand from the tourist market that really began to boom in the early fifties. This particular piece is an interesting one - it can be worn on its own as a cover-up or over hot pants or long pants so gives you a variety of styling options mainly due to the high side and front slit that allows for either the entire leg or whatever you choose to wear underneath to flash through with every movement. It is made of a washable poly jersey in black with a custom hand painted design in gold stenciled on its surface that highlights the lines and cut of the dress. Long and lean with a zip front and its original gold braided tie belt to wrap around the waist its an amazing and versatile piece! Excellent condition

This amazing two piece set by Yves Saint Laurent combines his love of velvet with the bright true colors he was able to produce using his signature challis fabric. The set consists of a stunning, voluminous pheasant gypsy style top and a fabulously cut and innovative skirt. Both pieces are printed with one of Yves signature prints and I love the teal blue mixed with the pops of color anchored by the black on the skirt. The top is spectacular and a collectible in its own right. You can wear it loose and peasant style or it will blouse when tucked as I have shown here. The sleeves are cut just past the elbow and each is very very full with a ruffle at the cuff and elastic just above. The neck is is also ruffled and cut high with a deep buttons front. It has its original tie around the neck as well. The skirt is genius with a fitted cut around the hip and that fabulous panel of inky black velvet that further defines the hip and makes you look pin-thin but curvy and adds that interesting angular line. Below the skirt flares out in a pretty swing of fabric. Being two pieces it is very versatile and you will be able to wear these together or separate. Excellent, appears unworn condition
Both pieces are unlined. The skirt closes with a side zipper and hook and eye at the waist. The top slips on to wear and buttons down the neck. Note that this is more of a teal blue in person then then true blue it photoed as. If you are familar with YSl and his use of this fabric then you will know the color as it is one of his signature hues.

This stunning Yves Saint Laurent set combines his love and fascination with all things gypsy, bohemian and peasant in feel with his masterful eye with print and color combinations. This is like the perfect melding of the two ideas in one. It is a two piece set, which gives it endless styling potential, since you can wear the pieces together as shown here, or pair them with other items. The skirt is stunning and made of a beautiful cotton voile with a slightly polished finish and a paisley print on the teal background. The fabric choice helps it to keep its shape and volume and really show off those ruffled tiers perfectly. The tiers circle the hem on two flounces of fabric. The skirt itself gradually widens to create volume and movement. I love the effect that this creates. The top is made of a slightly more starched feeling cotton and here the pattern changes so you get a super contrast between the two pieces. The top is cut with a skinny fit and buttons down the front. A flared collar and button cuffs are the perfect finish. Excellent, appears unworn condition.
Both the top and skirt are unlined. The skirt closes at the side with a painted zipper and flat hook and eye. The top buttons to close and also buttons at each cuff. The very bottom button on the top is missing. Both are tagged a vintage YSL 36. Note the color is more of a dusky teal in person and has photoed more of a blue tone.

The colors on this piece are amazing - it is a dreamy combination of pinks mixed with a soft pastel ocean blue - the two together are quite beautiful and it is one of the most coveted of the Pucci color combinations. His famous contrasting edging is used to highlight the cut and emphasize the design. The nylon jersey that was used for these pieces is fluid and soft and the result weighs mere ounces. The top is cut with triangle cups and the skirt long and full to the floor. The dress is suspended from tiny straps that curve up and around the shoulder and cross at the back. The back is barely there and dips almost scandalously low. The best part about this is that though it was meant to be lingerie, a modern girl will find that it is completely wearable as a dress with some clever underpinnings and they can also be used as chic beach cover ups while on vacation. A real collectible and in the EPFR world, a real rarity to find such a gorgeous piece that really feels like a true dress. Very sexy. Excellent condition

I love Geoffrey Beene's work during this time period and this particular dress is just divine. Really a special piece. The workmanship is very fine and it is surprisingly light weight while still keeping a sculptural feel to it - a tough balance to keep when you put this many details into a piece. The body of the dress is made of a fine black silk crepe, with the bodice and sleeves entirely covered by deep copper sequins. The sequin work is quite beautiful and they are applied in dense overlapping rows making the fabric seems almost liquid as it moves with you. It is cut full through the bodice so just skims over the bust and that curves inset of black between the sequins creates length and slimness. The extensive seam work that runs up that curved part and opens into the waist is amazing. These flat sewn pleats open into soft curving gathers that create the shape of the waist. From there the skirt skims over the hips to the hem. It is really an amazing dress and a testament to Beene's genius. Excellent condition.

This Oscar De la Renta dress is absolutely one of my favorites that I have ever had on the shop. You just look at it and want to run off immediately to a cocktail party! The construction is quite interesting on this one - it closes more like a coat, opening completely with all the closures hidden under the huge rhinestone encrusted, decorative buttons that run down the one side. The fabric itself is a rich and luxurious silk satin and it is also lined in silk making it feel quite decadent when on. The fabric choice adds a richness and depth to the black that only serves to add to the exaggerated and dramatic cut. I love the shape and cut - it is classic little cocktail dress with a play on the full skirts form the fifties but with a sixties mod touch. It is very sexy and very glamorous with a full, short skirt that allows miles of leg to show and creates a beautiful curvy silhouette. It has a high neckline with a curved collar that swoops over to one shoulder. Those big glittering rhinestone crystal buttons glitter down the side. A fabulous and early Oscar design that is even better in person. Excellent condition
Fully line in a black silk and closes under the buttons with hidden silk covered snaps and a flat hook at the waist. The dress opens completely. The inner silk lining on the skirt is finished with a stiffened insert around the bottom hem to help hold the volume and shape. Hand finishes. I see no missing stones on the rhinestone excrusted buttons.

The Odicini Couture label by Andre Odicini is one of those labels that is just starting to come into its own in the vintage world and I have a feeling that pieces by him will only increase in value as more time passes. With the current wave of nostalgia turning back to the drama of the eighties pieces like this are a great value and feel fresh once again for the fashion forward girl now. Made of a beautiful silk with a ribbed effect giving it texture, the dress is highly structured and cut to give you curves and shape. It wraps and hooks into place with an interior belting. The front plunges quite low but the well done construction holds everything perfectly where it should sit. The shoulders are padded and the sleeves cut with a pouf. A large bow sits at the waist - a play on the bow print worked through the fabric. The skirt is short and sexy and the wrapped cut allows for a mile of leg. The coral red tone is super flattering on most skin tones too. I love it. Excellent condition

I have had a pant and jacket set from this same collection by Mollie Parnis in the past but I actually prefer the dress version better. It has more of an impact and I love the simplicity of the design that really allows for that stunning fabric to take center stage. An Ikat print is always on point and when you find one shot through with metallic thread it is even better. The first thing you need to know about this piece is that the true color did not come across at all in the photos - it is close but in person the color is just a touch deeper and the metallic stands out more - it is far more fabulous than what is pictured. This is a classic Parnis silhouette that is almost sculptural in feel. It is cut to follow and skim over the bodice with beautiful high neck and slim sleeves. The skirt is quite full and lovely and the choice of fabric allows it to keep its shape. The fairly simple cut is completely off-set by the spectacular fabric. It is a rich metallic silk brocade with an Ikat design that runs across its surface. The metallic portions of the design have a slight puff appearance that really allows the fabric to catch the light wonderfully but not be overly metallic in feel. A stunning piece. Excellent condition.

Sant' Angelo was the winner of two Coty Awards and two Council of Fashion Designers of America honors and was known for his innovation and pioneering use of stretch fabrics. He has had an entire museum exhibit dedicated to his work and career and is firmly entrenched as one of the great designers. His work captured a moment in fashion history and his love of color and strong lines will forever be collectible. Pieces reside in museums worldwide. This is an amazing skirt and best set that showcases his love for color and that nod to using fabrics that were up to this point in time, largely not used. Made of a what is almost a canvas weight cotton mixed with leather trim both pieces are spectacular. His signature contrasting bursts of color are masterfully used here to showcase the cut and lines of each piece. The skirt is very full and wide but falls sleekly once on. It is made of colorful panels of cotton with each defined by bands of stamp cut green leather. This same color combination and leather trim is used on the fitted vest. Sant' Angelo once said, "I am not a fashion designer but an artist who works in fashion engineer of color and form" This set shows us how true that statement is. Excellent condition and a rare, highly collectible piece.
Both pieces are unlined. The skirt and closes with a back painted, hand set metal zipper and hook and eye at the waist band. The vest snaps to close at the front. The set has been specialty leather cleaned. Note that I actually have a photo of this set in an editorial from the time period but cannot for the life of me find it. I will eventually though!

Geoffrey Beene worked for the Traina label from 1958 through to 1963 and I feel that this must be one of his designs. I have seen similar pieces from him later from his own label and its fascinating to see what is probably an early piece of the evolution of one of the great American designers. Here we have an extraordinary full length gown made of a good weighted silk satin in a deep, clear emerald green. The impact of the color alone is fabulous and made more so with the bright embroidered design woven into the fabric and circling the entire skirt. Beautiful bouquets in bright colors run over the skirt and each is hand embroidered and placed exactly where he intended to nest highlight the design. The skirt is cut full and gathers into the waist and is topped by simple bodice that buttons up the front with big frog knots. I adore the wide cut sleeves and how they come out form the waist to create volume that balances the fullness of the skirt. Shape is created with a matching fabric belt that cinches in the waist. It is an amazing original Traina piece that is extremely collectible and infinitely wearable. A real treasure of a find. Excellent condition

Karl Lagerfeld often uses his own line as a start point to to explore cuts and fabrics and yet manages to keep the aesthetic very different from Chanel. It is of course just another reason to call him a genius. It also give him an outlet for his love of dark colors that he combines with soft touches while still keeping a certain edge. This dress is based on that classic fitted slip dress that was ever so popular in the nineties and is certainly supermodel worthy even today. It is quite sexy and flirty. The crepe that forms the body of the dress is cut on the bias and fitted so it shapes and molds itself to the body underneath and creates a long and curvy silhouette. The upper bodice has a gathered navy gingham that is cleverly set to emphasize the bust and add to your curves. I love how it is all suspended form tiny straps that curve up and around the shoulder. Excellent condition.
Fully lined in a blue tissue silk through the skirt and body of the dress and the bust is a double layer of the gingham fabric. It closes with a hidden set zipper at the back. Tagged a 40 but of course check the measurements given. Note that it is a true deep navy in person - some of the photos make it appear to be black - that is only the lighting

I love this little jersey dress that simply wraps into place and instantly turns makes the body all curves and flouncing ruffles. This dress came from the archives of the Ebony Fashion Fair and pieces from that collection were exhibited at the Chicago History Museum in 2014 with the exhibit now touring. In the prempt for that exhibit their promotional material states:
"The Ebony Fashion Fair began in 1958, and over the next 50 years the traveling fashion show blossomed into an American institution that raised millions for charity and helped Johnson Publishing Company reach audiences.
Show organizers overcame racial prejudice to bring the pinnacle of Europe’s premier fashion to communities that were eager to see, in real time and space, a new vision of black America that was the hallmark of Ebony and Jet magazines. Eunice Johnson took over as producer and director in 1963, and under her direction, the traveling show took on new heights as she expanded her cachet and power within fashion circles."
Here we have a beautiful piece by Givenchy and though not numbered this is the mainline label from that time period. When Hubert retired in 1996, John Galliano became head designer at the House of Givenchy for one year and was then replaced by Alexander McQueen who stayed on until 2001. This dress is most likely from the McQueen period though its ruffled and extravagant lines may well be attributed to Galliano. The jersey is very light weight and I love the deep chocolate brown color - dark enough to verge on being black but a touch more flattering on most skin tones. The wrap cut is very sexy since you can tie it to be more modest or allow for a dramatic front plunge. The waist can be cinched with the long attached ties for maximum curves. The skirt is cut so that it is shorter at the front and this allows for more leg to show when you move. The entire front edges are finished with a ruffle and that same dramatic ruffle finishes each sleeve as well. Excellent, appears unworn condition.

I Have a Question
The pieces with the Haute Coutue boutique label were ready to wear but would have been made in-house. They were wonderfully finished and could be considered to be demi-couture. They often used proprietary fabrics and the dresses were made to order for their clients. This partially dress is extra special because it was the dress chosen for the ad campaign that year. Which also gives you a great idea of what it looks like on.
This one is a stunning strapless dress made from a silk taffeta. This fabric choice really allows the ruffles and tiers to have some volume and retain their shape to give the effect that you see in the photos. The inner dress is very These fitted and meant to hug your curves. The waist is nipped in with a wide band of the same fabric gathered in soft pleats. This curves down into an interior fitted skirt that has two spectacular tiers of silk taffeta set facing downwards so that they come off the inner skirt and create shape and volume. The bodice is strapless and inside there is a built in corset. Over this is yet another shaped and formed panel of silk that opens upwards and towards the face. I love the way it is entirely constructed to emphasize the hourglass silhouette and show miles of leg. The print on the silk is beautiful. It is an abstract floral feeling design done in a combination of purple, pink, blue and teal. Its gorgeous and very flattering on. Excellent condition.
The dress is fully lined in a blue tissue silk. It has an internal built in, boned corset. It closes with two separate zippers an internal one that zips up the inner corset and then the exterior dress zipper over that. Interior waist stay made of grosgrain ribbon that closes with hook & eye. Hand finished.

The Zandra Rhodes Renaissance, or Gold Collection, of 1981 was inspired by "the combination of the royal wedding, historic dress from the Elizabethan period, and panniers from the Victoria and Albert Museum's collection of historic costume..... Vogue sent a memo around to fashion designers saying that there was going to be a royal wedding. Due to press speculation, Zandra Rhodes assumed this would be the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer. Zandra Rhodes later went on to design silk chiffon dresses for Princess Diana in the mid-1980s, such as this evening dress, describing her as "like a fairytale princess."
Here we see many of the same details used in the center piece of that year's collection (which is pictured below for your reference) - the fabric "cabbages" used to highlight the shoulder and the rosettes that sit at the base of each. Our gown is done in a copper lame combined with net, beads and sequins. The skirt has two knife pleats layers - an inner copper lurex layer topped by a hand painted silk net layer. The effect of the net over the Lurex is remarkable and the pleating technique gives it fullness while allowing it to lay in the exact line she intended when standing still. The waist has a lame rosette detailing and is slightly dropped - suggestive of the pannier that she referenced throughout this collection. The bodice is tremendously beautiful with a highly embellished hand beaded and sequined finish. Under that amazing sweeping shoulder detail lie black silk net puffed sleeves trimmed with beads. A stunning example from one of her most famous collections.
The lurex skirt layer acts as its own lining and the main bodice is backed in a black satin. It closes with a back set zipper and a button at the back of the neck above a small keyhole. There is a slight pull to the front net and there have been repairs to the net along the arm seams but the shoulder detail covers it all so it is mentioned for accuracy only. It was slightly large on our mannequin so will sit better through the torso on the proper sized girl

The construction on this 1960s Galanos dress is divine. It is made of layers of gossamer weight silk chiffon - a difficult fabric to work with under any circumstance. Galanos cut it on the bias, layered it and made it all work perfectly. Three layers of chiffon float over the inner silk skirt. The top layer is a soft turquoise and the ones underneath are a pale ice blue. This really gives the skirt an interesting texture and depth and makes for a pretty flounce when you sit or twirl. The top has a looser silk chiffon bodice that is over a more fitted inner silk one. A silk satin covered belt cinches the waist in. Very feminine and very pretty. An unusually cold color choice for this time period and astonishingly perfect considering the delicate fabric. Excellent condition.
There is a fully lined and finished interior bodice inside the top of the dress. The looser top portion of the bodice is also backed in a pale blue silk chiffon. The skirt is also fully lined with a finished silk skirt under the 3 top layers of silk chiffon. The interior bodice closes with hook & eye and then the dress closes with a hand set painted metal zipper. Additional fabric covered snaps close the chiffon of the skirt over the zipper under the waist. Each sleeve has a zipper at the cuff. It comes with two belts - one labelled and one not - they are slightly different cuts. Both are 24-26". The color is a touch softer in person then how it photoed.
Note that is was too small on the mannequin to close properly on the back - on the right size girl it will close perfectly.

The last time I had this dress it was snatched up by Judy Aldridge of the Atlantis Home blog fame (and she just happens to by Jane Aldridge aka Sea of Shoes mom too). She paired it with a fantastic tweed Chanel boot and a big vintage Christopher Ross belt so the dress comes with its own styling tips built right in. I don't think I have ever had a dress that was so requested as this one so the girl who gets it will count herself very lucky indeed.
This absolutely gorgeous Malcolm Starr dress has such superb detailing it is like having built in jewels. The fabric is a wool tweed with a textured finish. The front is cut high around the neckline, skims over the bust to a higher set waist seam that is not quite as high as a baby doll. Each sleeve is kept very simple in cut but has a fantastic ring of jewels and silvered gold braiding circling each cuff. The skirt is cut on a flare with an inverted pleat running down the front. The jeweled neckline is the star on this dress and the heavy crystal embellishment runs around the collar and down the center front. Lovely lines and stunning details all add up to really wonderful dress - classic and wonderfully made. Excellent condition.
Fully lined in a cotton muslin and closes with a back painted metal zipper. I see no missing crystals.

There is always room for a great dotted piece in a girls closet and this lovely little set will quickly become a favorite. The skirt is a chic little pencil silhouette with the slightest of flares as it nears the hem. Both the front and the back have a slit for a a little flash of leg. The top is chic and simple with a high rounded collar that is set back on the neckline. The cut through the body is sleek and like the skirt slightly flares as it nears the hem with curved and rounded slits on each side of the hip. The fabric is a textured cotton with little white dots woven through that is heavy enough to hold the shape but not so heavy as to be cumbersome when on. It's darling. Excellent condition
Both pieces are fully lined in a taupe silky rayon. Each closes with a back painted metal zipper.

This is an amazing mid-fifties number is so representative of that time period. The "New Look" silhouette was in full swing and the excessive use of fabric and the full skirted silhouette is presented beautifully in this dress. The shawl or portrait collar is expansive and covers the entire shoulder - in fact this one sits just off the shoulder allowing for an expanse of bare skin. The full skirt is balanced by a nipped in waist and this is exactly the balance between the shoulder and skirt that one desires with dresses from this period. I love the soft bows that sit at the back of each shoulder - a sweet and feminine touch. The sleeves are to the elbow and the bodice fitted and nipped in at the waist. The full and beautiful skirt shows off the gorgeous black silk to its greatest possible advantage with yards of fabric flowing out from the waist. It is exquisite. Excellent condition
Closes with a back painted metal zipper. Fully lined through the bodice with a muslin inner bodice piece that has boning running through it. The skirt is completely interlined with stiffened netting to hold the shape and fullness. No additional crinolines were used in the styling here. There is one minor pinhole that is strong and stable just under the waist seam - see photo. Priced accordingly. Hand finished. Stunning workmanship.

Valentino knows how to cut to perfectly flatter a woman's body and few can come close to the masterful techniques he perfected over the decades of his career. Here we have a very sexy red silk chiffon halter top and skirt. It has that fresh and modern simplicity that the nineties did so very well and could easily be mistaken for a piece from a current collection. Both pieces are cut on the bias and made of feather light, fine silk chiffon, draping perfectly over the body. The color is absolutely fantastic - the perfect clear red that flatters most skin tones - I think it is even better in person then how it has photoed and if you know the color of Valentino's signature red then you know the color of this set. The simple cut top is suspended from tiny straps that curve up and around each shoulder. The bust is gathered and a ruffled panel drapes down the front. The skirt is long and lean with an unusual "car wash" hem - two layers of silk chiffon top each other and each has long slits that create a fantastic and unusual effect. These also allow a glimpse of leg to peek through with every movement. It is just stunning and the cut is very sexy. Excellent condition
Both pieces are are made of two layers of the silk chiffon - the skirt in a matching red and the top with an inner nude silk layer as well as a third layer of silk under the bust area. There is also an extra layer of nude silk chiffon through the inner top portion of the skirt. The top closes with a side, hidden set zipper as does the skirt. Hand finishes.

This amazing two piece set has such a Gucci vibe to it that it feels like ot could have walked the spring 2016 runway. It is two separate pieces with a light jacket and a swinging flat pleated skirt. Both pieces are made of a fantastic crushed velvet in the perfect shade of purple. The jacket is cut boxy and square with slightly gathered and capped shoulders. I love the black ribbon edging that gives it contrast and finish. It has no closures and will layer perfectly over silk blouses with big floppy neck ties or sleek and simple tees. The neckline is high and has no collar. The skirt is absolutely on point with pleats all around that allow it to flow over the hips and flare out with lots of movement when you walk or move. A really gorgeous set that you can wear together or as separates. Excellent, appears unworn condition.
The jacket is fully lined in a black silk and the skirt unlined. The jacket has no closures and the skirt closes with a side zipper and flat hook and eye at the waist line.

Halston was at the forefront in taking simple and known silhouettes for day and making them into extravagant and yet still easy to wear evening pieces by changing the fabrics to fluid silks and sequins and keeping the cut as easy and simple as possible. This allowed dresses, like this one, to drape wonderfully on the body and created a new form of sexuality that was a mix of high glamour and the more casual American nod to dressing. This is a particularly good example of that and still extremely wearable even now. Halston had the fabric for these little sequin covered dresses hand made in India and it is a combination of a fine silk chiffon densely covered in iridescent sequins. This one is a chic mix of silvers and pewter, deepening to glossy blacks and edged with little round silver beads. That effect of the light on these sequins once you have this one on and you move is just amazing. It slips on and falls into place in a simple tunic shaped sheath. I love the excessive cowl at the neck and how the sleeves are cut wide and full. The cut and construction are what one would expect from one of the most eminent of the great American designers. Similar pieces were prominent and on display at the Halston and Warhol: Silver and Suede Exhibit. Excellent condition.
Unlined and slips on to wear. There is perhaps some small areas of missing sequins but none that overly distract. The loose and easy cut will allow it to fit a wider range of sizes.

Famous for creating Marilyn Monroe's scintillating and iconic "subway grate" dress for the movie The Seven Year Itch, Travilla began as a costume designer before opening his own custom atelier in the 1950s. He did both until 1970, closed shop and then reopened in in the late seventies. Here we have a stunning gown from the late seventies. Using two fabrics for maximum drama and impact we have a solid chocolate silk on the top and that fabulous gold lame for the skirt. The bodice is quite beautiful add dramatic - the neckline is cut straight across with a simple skimming fit over the bust. The sleeves are pure drama as the drop slightly off the shoulder and then pouf out tremendously over gathered elastic cuffs. The skirt is cut with a fuller cut with yards and yards of fabric topped with a band at the waist of the same gold lurex that ties at the back to really emphasize a tiny waistline. The gold used in the skirt is absolutely beautiful and shimmers in the light when you move. There is just enough weight to the fabric to hold the shape and volume the piece requires but it is still surprisingly fluid. A beautiful piece. Excellent condition
The bodice is fully lined in a silky rayon and the skirt is interlined in a black organza. It closes at the back with a fine painted metal zipper. The tie belt extends at each side of the waist form the front attached banding. Hand finishes. Teh gold in person is a truer gold then how it photos

I love Halston and to find one of his silk evening coats is a rare thing and this one is exceptional. I have had a similar version in red that was cut a little shorter but I love this length for its versatility. It is cut with his masterful mind towards minimalist and with the utmost respect to the fabric. This beautiful little coat is all rounded seams combined with the sensual tactile experience of the silk satin. The color is a deep jet black and when done in a silk satin, it has a depth and extra tone that conveys a sense of rich luxury. It slips on, wraps and ties into place to create shape. Once tied the the rounded, almost sculptural shoulders are balanced with the created flare at the hip. It is tagged with the couture black tag and is a wonderful versatile and rare piece that is both infinitely wearable and collectible. Excellent condition.
Fully lined in a black silk and wraps and ties to close. Front slant pockets on each hip and original tie belt. The wrapped cut will allow for a fuller range of sizes.

Josefa caftans are amazing pieces of art-to-wear. Each was hand made in Mexico in the late sixties to early seventies and were the epitome of hippie chic, both then and now. Looking like it could have been worn by Talitha Getty, this is an amazing and easy to wear piece that you can wear to the beach, during the day or as an evening piece. The design is based on a classic caftan silhouette that pairs a finely woven, brilliantly hand dyed cotton with with hand done embroidery work. The embroidery details the neckline and each cuff. I love how there is a little spray of flowers at the back of the neck and how each cuff has an unusual notch shape. Cut loose and easy, it just slips over the head and has a notched neckline for a bit of skin to peek through. Presents as excellent condition

I absolutely adore this printed Lanvin dress with its amazing diamond design screened onto the fabric. It feels especially appropriate right now with what is happening over at Gucci and has that same vibe to it. It is so bright and cheerful and absolutely the perfect red to flatter most skin tones. It has elastic through the waist so it is very comfortable and easy to wear and you can also use the original tie belt to define and cinch in the waist even more. I love the the long sleeves with their cuffed ends and slight fullness just above each wrist. It buttons down the front the front allowing you to leave it undone and quite low to add a flash of skin, or keep it buttoned up. A neat little pointed collar and a contrasting hem are the perfect finishing details. Excellent condition.
Unlined and buttons to close down the front. Original matching fabric belt. Each sleeve closes with a button. The fabric feels like a silk twill but I believe it to be a synthetic - cutting edge for its time

Yards and yards of pink satin have been used in this Arnold Scassi boutique gown. Scaasi studied under Charles James and you can see that influence heavily in this particular piece. How can you not instantly fall in love with a gown with bows down the side. The soft Barbie pink gives it a romantic princess feel. The bodice has wide and simple strapless and is gathered down one side and caught up in the bows down the side. I love how he has extended this down and past the hips, bringing the line slightly up at the front to trick the eye into seeing a smaller waist and down into a deep point at the back to make the eye travel and give length. The skirt is so dramatic and full - a true ballgown skirt. The inside construction is fabulous - layers of fine pink silk with a broad band of horsehair taping at the bottom inner hem. Excellent condition
Fully interlined in a matching pink silk organza through the skirt and pink silky rayon through the bodice. It closes with a back metal and nylon zipper. The bodice is boned. The skirt has an inner more fitted skirt and between this and the outer layer is layers of pink tulle. Both the inner and outer layer of the skirt have bandings of stiffened netting to help hold the shape.

Before Anne Klein became "Anne Klein" she launched the Junior Sophisticates label with her husband Ben. The label ran from 1948 to the mid-sixties and I would date this coat as being from the early sixties. It is really extraordinary and that amazing pink color really makes a dramatic statement. The cut is stunning - supermodel long with narrow shoulders and a more fitted cut through the upper torso and long slim sleeves. It then flares out to sweep to the ground with miles of fabric. The fabric itself is a slightly nubby wool so has a richness of texture. Inside is is fully lined in a matching pink silk crepe. Well made and a real find for my girls who love pink. Excellent condition

This is absolutely gorgeous Pucci dress with a superb color palette in shade of green mixed with taupes to create one of his signature prints. It is made of a lightweight silk jersey, a preferred fabric choice for Pucci because of how it draped on the body, held color and was so easy to pack and travel with for his jet set clientele. It is cut with long, skinny sleeves and a bodice that skims over the bust and then drops into a low slung waist. This then tops a sleek and simple skirt that flows to the floor. This is a classic Emilio Pucci silhouette that is instantly recognizable and very sexy despite it covering you from head to toe. I love the band at the waist that gives it a bit of visual definition but still allows for that easy to wear cut. That same contrasting band runs the back of the dress in a dramatic play on the print and also is picked up at the collar, cuffs and hem. The colors all pop against each other beautifully. The entire dress weighs ounces and is wonderfully bright and happy in feel as all the very best Pucci's are! Presents as excellent, museum quality condition.
Unlined and closes with a back hidden, painted metal zipper and hidden fabric covered snaps at the neck. The fabric is a silk jersey and does have some stretch. There is an area of discoloration on one side just below the hip - please supersize the photo of this small flaw to see. It has been priced accordingly and because of the print and placement it does not detract once on.

Treacy Lowe always started her designs based on her fabric choices and she had an incredible eye for choosing beautiful fabrics. She tended to gravitate towards using the lightest, finest silk tissue gauze that were almost impossible to work with they are so light and airy. The results were dresses like this one that weigh only a few ounces and are incredibly easy to wear and look fantastic. The dress is cut with a slight nod to the Victorian era with a double ruffle neckline that is picked up on each cuff as well. Across the upper bodice the fabric is gathered with tiny cross stitched thatch work for a pretty and romantic detail. The dress flows out from the upper shoulder in a cascade of silk that drapes to the ground. You can wear it loose and easy if you wish or add shape with the long matching fabric tie belt. This swath of fabric is long enough that you could even use it as a head piece. The print on the silk is hand screened and the silk itself is the finest Indian silk you could get at that time. Excellent condition.
The body of the dress is fully lined in silk gauze hand dyed a green to match the exterior silk chiffon. The sleeves are left unlined. It closes with and back zipper and the sash is original to the dress.

I Have a Question
Ceil Chapman is one of the great American designers. Her work was loved and worn by starlets of the time like Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Deborah Kerr and many others and then when she launched her own label that str power helped to turn her brand into a household name. Chapman did exceptional evening and cocktail wear and this coat is a wonderful example of that
Finding one of her evening coats is a bit of a treat and this particular one is wonderful. It is made of a metallic silk brocade that has an abstract pattern that is worked through the fabric using an array of metallic colours. The design combines a graphic feeling print that is made from a light silver for the backdrop, and then has little rectangle sin a deeper silver grey along with gold and copper. The effect that this creates is dramatic and very beautiful. The coat almost has a foil feel to it but it soft to the touch. It is cut in the classic lines of the time period with a rounded and notched collar and straight sleeves. The body of the coat skims over the bust and hips and then flares out to the hem. Hidden pockets lie along the front seams and at the back there is a strap that runs across the middle for detailing. I love how the back skirt of the coat has those deep pleats on either side for a little extra flare. The buttons on the back strap and that run in a double row down the front are encrusted in rhinestone that are set in a swirling pattern of in silver and gold. Even better in person and it is very chic. Excellent condition
Fully lined in a deep grey silk. The buttons holes are properly finished along the front and there are hidden snaps to keep it perfectly in place when buttoned. Properly functioning buttonholes on the back strap as well. Pockets along the seam at the front. The easy cut should allow it to fit a range of sizes.

A brilliant color palette and a chic caftan fit make this dress one to want. It has its original Hong Kong British Crown Colony tag but no other. There were several designers using these factories at the time and I would bet this also had a designer tag in it at one time. The print is an exotic and vivid design with contracting borders running around the wide cut sleeves and upper collar. The sleeves are cut simply and widen out to a full 22" around as they reach the cuff adding to the exotic feel of the dress. The neckline is cut high and the dress sweeps over the body in a Kaleidescape of color on that brilliant turquoise base, It is meant to be worn loose and caftan like or you can easily add a belt and cinch it to create more shape. Excellent, appears unworn condition.
The dress is fully lined in a hand set, blue silk rayon except for the sleeves which are unlined. The exterior fabric is a light polyester knit jersey. It closes with a back painted metal zipper.

This Malcolm Starr is terrific - its a unusual combination of a diamond patterned net over a net and nude inner dress. It is cut with a sexy and mod baby doll silhouette that is really emphasized at the back of the dress. The front of the dress is cut on an A-line with a simple scooped bodice. The sleeves are full and left unlined so that you can really see that fabulous patterned worked through the net. At the back the dress is all "Alice in Wonderland" with that baby doll feel. It has a low scooped back so you get a bare expanse of skin with a little black satin bow at the base. I love how the back has yards of extra fabric that is all gathered along the lower edge of that scooped back giving it wonderful fullness. This all sits over a nude silk interior that is covered with a black net. Excellent condition
The inner dress is lined with a nude silk with the very upper bodice backed in a nude net. It closes with a back painted metal zipper. The bow snaps into place on the exterior layer. Each sleeve buttons to close.

This little Gigi Young number (sister company to Suzy Perette) is exquisitely made and the simplicity of its design hides a masterful technique and construction. It is full of wonderful, subtle details that tell of the high quality of the dress. It buttons down the front right to the hem with silk covered buttons in the same fabric. Because it completely unbuttons you can actually use it as a layering pieces if you wished to. I love the way the skirt is set so that the seams open out to inverted pleats around the hip to allow for the fullness you see. The sleeves are sleek and simple as is the collar and the skirt is wonderfully full. That skirt has a built in skirting to give it that fullness and I did not have to add any extra crinolines. It's fabulous. Excellent condition
Self backed fabric with an additional attached underskirt. It closes with the buttons at the front and with hidden hook & eye. Hand finished. Very well made. Note that someone has taken up the skirt so that the last buttons sits right at the lower hem. If you wished to take it down you could get an additional 5" in length.

An absolutely stunning set by Bill Blass that really displays his talent to design and play up to that idea of refined and lady like elegance. Constructed from two separate pieces that are worn over each other for a bit of a baby doll feel. The inner dress is a sublimely simple shift with black silk chiffon layered over an inner layer of nude silk. It is strapless and fitted over the bust, skims over the waist and has a slight flare as it nears the hem. The exterior layer is made of a fine, almost weightless black lace so that you get a glimpse of the shape underneath. The lace used has a slightly starched so it has a touch of structure to it to hold the shape and volume created. This gives it the feel of a fine antique Chantilly. Each sleeve of the outer dress ends in a ruffle and that detail is picked up around the hem and collar. I love how the back dips to a squared off shape and extra panels of lace are there to give it extra fullness. Together they feel quite refined but it still has a subtle sexuality to it. Excellent condition
The inner dress is fully lined with a nude silk chiffon and is seamed and lightly boned. The exterior dress is unlined. The dress closes with a side metal and nylon zipper and the over-lay has hidden set fabric covered snaps under one of the vertical seams down the back.

I Have a Question
Christian Lacroix launched his Haute Couture house in 1987 and his work was instantly adored and revered world wide. He defined an era and he was crowned the King of Couture. A ready-to-wear line soon followed along with perfumes and menswear. This dress has the vivid pink main RTW label in it
The dress is made out of a silk knit that has been dyed to a deep rich burgundy. Woven though the knit is a fine gold lurex thread. The gold is quite extensive which give the entire dress a subtle glimmer that is just fabulous. The dress is completely cut on the bias. You just slip it on and it shapes itself over your curves. The ribbing of the knit and the gathers on the bust allow the dress to stretch or contract as needed to the dress is very flexible in size. The ribbing has been done for the entire back of the dress and the front part under the bodice. The bust area is gathered in puckered finish that feels very avant garde. This treatment to the knit would have been pretty innovative for this time period. The hem is finished with a ruffled effect. I love how the knit creates a long lean line once it os on. If you wanted to add more shape you could easily belt it. Very easy to wear and comfortable on. Excellent condition.
Unlined and slips over the head to wear. The bias cut knit should work on a range of sizes. It as a lot of stretch and I have given the comfortable range of measurements below
Bust: 16-20" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: to 18" flat across from side seam to side seam
Hips: to 20" flat across from side seam to side seam
Length: 62" from shoulder to hem (will come up when on the body depending on how much it stretched width wise)

Halston is one of those rare labels that for whom the more time goes by it actually feels more relevant. It is easy to think of this piece as both a treasured collectible and a closet staple - knowing that every time you slip it on you will look and feel amazing. It has a definitive Grecian goddess feel to it combined with his signature simplicity and masterful draping - and a touch of Studio 54 sexiness thrown in. I normally stick to the main line label but make the exception for really fabulous pieces like this or the draped one shoulder dresses I have on the site from time to time. The dress simply slips on with elastic that runs through the waist to create just the hint of a suggestion of shape as it is cut very loose and easy even there. The front plunges deeply but the weight and placement of the fabric and interior elastic hold it in place so that you feel safe wearing it. It is cut on the bias so wraps and drapes to follow your every curve. The skirt is long and lean and the top blouses over. The wrapped styling allows the entire front to look like you could step out of the dress at any moment but it is designed to stay in place. A long sash in the same fabric can be wrapped and tied a million ways - the styling possibilities are endless. It's all old Hollywood meets Haslton's signature Studio 54 sexiness. Excellent condition.
Unlined and wraps to close with flat hooks at the waist to hold it in place. Smaller hook & eye on the skirt and plunge to hols it in place. Original tie belt. The easy fit and loose elastic waist with all the shape coming from tying the fabric belt make it easy to fit a range of sizes.

Insanely sexy, this low scooped front Azzedine Alaia dress from the 1990 collection has that in your face sensuality that Alaia is known for. It is made form his signature bandage knit so it clings and hugs the body and your every curve. This one is scooped with a low curve at the front that sits under your bust with equally low V's cut down each side and a modified halter back. These were meant to be worn with one of his signature bra tops or you can pair it with a bustier as I have done (not included). The main seams are all held together by a criss cross of fine cording so that a bit of skin peeks through. It is cut to create a long lean line with seam work curving across and under the butt. Here the seam changes to a curved horizontal line that follows the curve of a woman's backside. The dress is finished with a saucy little pleated "fishtail" skirt that kicks up with your every move. This pleat detail wraps completely around the lower skirt. Excellent condition
Unlined and slips on. The knit has stretch and will adapt to follow your curves. It is a little large on my mannequin so the fit will be better on the proper sized girl. No size tag is present. Note that the black bustier is for styling only and is not included.

Quintessentially Azzedine, this fabulous white Alaia knit dress is one of his classic silhouettes and a mainstay of any collector's closet. Done in his signature ribbed stretch knit, this dress looks straight off the showroom floor and I don't think it has ever been worn. Different ribbing finishes are used to create added depth and texture to the dress and the long lines that run through the texture help to add and create length. The fit and dramatic flared shape is sassy and sexy. The dress walks that perfect Alaia line between overt sexuality and classiness. The front of the dress plunges in a deep V and the dress skims over the torso. Once it reaches the dropped skirt it flares out with amazing fullness - perfect for twirling in. Excellent, appears unworn condition.
Unlined and closes with a hidden set back zipper. Tagged a modern Alaia large but these do fit a touch small. The fabric does have stretch. Note that it was a touch too big on the mannequin through the upper body so will fit better on the proper sized girl.

In some of his earlier collections Azzedine did show more color and this is a great example of that. Both pieces are made from a fine and slinky knit with a polished sheen finish that has been dyed the perfect shade of purple. The inner dress is a simple affair that follows the curve of your body but has a more skimming clinginess rather then his later body hugging bandage knits. It has a high neck and no sleeves. I love the cut of the shoulder - its set slightly wide and gives a nod to what was then the range - the exaggerated shoulder. Over this is a long matching cardigan that follows the lines of the dress underneath. It closes low at the front and the seaming is predictive of what would go on to become a signature. Love the snap closure down the neck of the dress and how the buttons that close the cardigan mimic these. Excellent condition
Both pieces are unlined and slip on. The dress has snaps to close down the neck and the cardigan has a low set series of buttons and has lightly padded shoulders. The cardigan is tagged a vintage Alaia small and the dress a medium

Insanely sexy, this Azzedine Alaia dress from the spring 1990 collection has that in your face sensuality that Alaia is known for. It is made form his signature bandage knit so it clings and hugs the body and your every curve. This one is plunged low in the front and even lower in the back. The V at the back is so low that your entire back is basically left bare. The seam work at the form cuts down the middle of the dress to create a long lean line and this is mimicked at the back until just below the butt. Here the seam changes to a curved horizontal line that follows the curve of a woman's backside. The dress is finished with a saucy little pleated "fishtail" that kicks up with your every move. This pleat detail wraps completely around the lower skirt. In the video below you clearly see the dress in a light taupe at the 2:08 mark. Excellent condition
