I Have a Question

Chic 1970s Halston Light Linen-Silk Wrap Plunge Black Dress

I Have A Question: Chic 1970s Halston Light Linen-Silk Wrap Plunge Black Dress

The more time that goes by from when an original Halston dress was first created, the more relevant they seem to feel. It is easy to think of this piece as a closet staple. It is so sleek and simple that it is the kind of dress that you know that every time you slip it on you will look and feel amazing. It still feels fresh and of our modern world despite the fact that it has now been almost 50 years since it was designed. It has his signature simplicity and masterful draping along with a touch of Studio 54 sexiness thrown in. The dress slips on and you hook it into place at the waist. It has no other closures. The front crosses over itself with a mid-level plunge that the placement of the fabric and interior hooks hold in place so that you feel safe wearing it. It is cut on the bias so it wraps and drapes to follow your curves. The skirt is cut to feel lean and again it is the crossing over of the fabric that gives you enough coverage to be able to wear it and feel secure. The wrapped styling allows the entire front to look like you could step out of the dress at any moment but it is designed to stay in place. The waist is already defined but you could cinch it in further with a belt. This is signature Halston Studio 54 sexiness but in a dress that you can easily wear day or night. Excellent condition.

Unlined and wraps to close with flat hooks inside and out at the waist to hold it in place with no other closures. Tagged a vintage 6 but please check measurements. The waist could be adjusted approx 1" up or down by moving the hooks. The fabric feels like a light silk mix with an almost linen cotton feel to it. Very light and easy to wear but would wear well and not wrinkle easily.

Shoulders: no defined seam
Bust: 17.5" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: 12" flat across from side seam to side seam
Hips: 18.5" flat across from side seam to side seam
Bodice: 16" from neck to waist
Skirt: 31" from waist to hem

Modern Sizing Equivalent: XS-SML

I Have a Question

1960s James Galanos Scalloped Front Dress w Rhinestone Buttons

I Have A Question: 1960s James Galanos Scalloped Front Dress w Rhinestone Buttons

James Galanos was a designer who made couture-level gowns and dresses with a level of craftsmanship that left France’s most esteemed couturiers with their mouths agape. The immaculate construction of Galanos’ work oozed luxury, privilege, and high society. He was a master cutter and he used many couture level techniques in his gowns.

This little black dress is lovely and the type of dress that you will reach for endlessly as it is just dressy enough for any occasion that call for a cocktail dress but it also feels refined and elegant. The front is very pretty with black stone and rhinestone edged buttons. Behind those buttons the edges have been scalloped into little curves for a pretty and feminine touch. The neckline is done in a V and the arm opening are set inwards on a slight angle. The waist is set so that it is slightly dropped. This creates length and leanness through the bodice. The skirt has just a touch of fullness to it and it has pockets set along the seam on either side of the hip. Each of those pockets are finished with pipped edges and the scallop detailing along the front edge is top stitched to perfectly follow the cut. The sides of each arm are cut into a deep V. This was one of Galanos' signature finishes. It is just a lovely little dress and one that will easily transition from day to night. Excellent condition.

Fully lined through the bodice in a black silk and the skirt is unlined. All of the interior edges are very well finished. It closes down the front with buttons, hook & eye and fabric covered snaps. It appears to have been worn very little if at all

Bust: 16" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: 13.5" flat across from side seam to side seam
Hips: to 21" flat across from side seam to side seam
Bodice: 18" from top of bodice to waist
Skirt: 18" from waist to hem

I Have a Question

1980s Thierry Mugler Back Open Cut Work Lace Black Fitted Dress

I Have A Question: 1980s Thierry Mugler Back Open Cut Work Lace Black Fitted Dress

From the front this Thierry Mugler dress falls in line with his more stark pieces with its all black color and sharp line, but the second that you turn around it is almost shocking. This is classic Mugler and the back has that wonderful, overt sensuality he worked into his clothes. It is made out of an inky black stretch jersey and is cut to hug your curves. The bodice is cut along those classic Mugler lines with rounded shoulders and a sharply pointed notched collar. The seams are all set into curving lines and they help to give the dress a touch of structure, shape and support. The waist nips ion and the hips curve out following the lines of the body. The skirt is cut to about the knee and curves in at the hem for a fitted silhouette. The back is spectacular. The entire back has an open cut work lace in lieu of the jersey. So you are completely covered but at the same time exposed to an almost scandalous level as the bottom of that panel dips quite low. Again at the back the seams are curved so add to the curves created by the dress already. Each sleeve is capped and has a little snap that adds just a touch of volume above them, The dress simply snaps down the front and can come off as easily. Excellent condition

Unlined and closes down the front with snaps. Each sleeve has a snap as well. Light, rounded padding in each shoulder. It appears to have been worn very little if at all. Tagged a vintage Mugler 42. The fabric does have some stretch

Shoulders: approx 15" but no true defined seam
Bust: to 19" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: 14" flat across from side seam to side seam
Hips: 20" flat across from side seam to side seam
length: 42" from neck to hem

I Have a Question

1970s Stavropoulos Gold Metallic & Ivory Lace One Shoulder Dress

I Have A Question: 1970s Stavropoulos Gold Metallic & Ivory Lace One Shoulder Dress

George Stavropoulos was known for his evening wear and his signature looks often involved draping and the use of multiple layers of silk done on a bias cut. He focused on cut and fabric to convey the beauty of each piece. It was said that his gowns "seemed to float on air". He launched his label in 1960 and soon was dressing women like Elizabeth Taylor, Jackie Kennedy, Barbra Streisand and Maria Callas. His dresses were made by hand and to couture standards. By the early 1980s a gown by him started at around $8500 and they went up in cost from there - that starting price point equals to around $26,000US in today's dollars. So when you buy a vintage Stavropoulos gown you are getting incredible value for your money. The only reason his work is not under the Haute Couture category is because he was not an official member of the association.

I love the light and airy feel of the dress that is created by the yards and yards of silk chiffon used under the top layer of netted lace used in its construction. Working in this type of fabric is already difficult and this would have taken many hours of work to execute the making of this dress by hand. The silk layers underneath are all cut on the bias and this gives it a lovely movement and makes it very comfortable to wear once on the body. The dress is suspended from the single shoulder and falls from there with a loose and billowy effect as it widens out to the hem. The top layer of the dress is made of a netted ivory with a lace feeling pattern that runs over that. This is then detailed with gold thread that gives the dress a slight touch of sparkles. Once the dress gets past the bust it widens out to be quite full by the time it reaches the hem so that when you move you get an unexpected bit of volume. it is also gathered up at the side toward the back and this gives it a little extra volume there, shows off the layers underneath the top layer and also helps to create that asymmetrical hem. Excellent condition

Fully lined in an ivory silk chiffon under the top lace and net layer and closes with a hand set, painted metal zipper set off side at the back. Has four full layers of silk chiffon under the top netting layer under the skirt

Bust: to 16" flat across from side seam to side seam

I Have a Question

c.1978 Halston One Shoulder Draped Ivory Jersey Full Length Maxi Dress

I Have A Question: c.1978 Halston One Shoulder Draped Ivory Jersey Full Length Maxi Dress

I am always on the look out for this style of dress by Halston. It is perhaps the most iconic of all of the Halston silhouettes and in 2016 a red version of this exact dress entered modern day fashion history when Kate Moss wore its twin on the red carpet at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. And just this year, Martha Hunt wore the exact twin of this same dress that she sourced from us to Cannes. She landed on several Best Dressed lists as a result. This was issued on a variety of colors and this one is a wonderful and quite rare ivory version. These were made in both a Petite cut version and a regular, longer cut version. This one is one of the Petite ones.

Halston was a master at this cut. There is a certain sexiness caused by the illusion of having the entire dress suspended by one hook at the shoulder. It gives the sense that undoing that hook would cause the entire dress to drop in a puddle around you (which it would). It is constructed from two attached layers. The inner dress is cut from the same synthetic jersey and skims over the body in a long sheath. This inner part of the dress has a high slit cut into the side that travels up the side of the leg opposite to the draped side. Attached to that inner sheath lies a draped panel of jersey that is suspended from the shoulder. It falls from that shoulder down and over the front and the back of the dress. The dress hooks into place at the shoulder and the jersey cascades loosely down and over the inner layer for the ultimate Grecian goddess feel. This is a classic dress by Halston that is perfect for traveling as it is wash and wear and will travel exceedingly well with little to no wrinkling. It is very easy to style too - a quick change of shoe takes it day to night in a snap. Excellent condition.

Slips on to wear and has a hook at the top of the shoulder. These should fit a range of sizes since they are not cut to be super fitted and the jersey does have some stretch. It is a touch more creamy ivory in person.

Bust: to 19" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: to 21" flat across from side seam to side seam
Hips: to 22" flat across from side seam to side seam
Length: 54" from neck to hem

I Have a Question

1950s Ceil Chapman Basket Weave Velvet Floral Ribbon Silk Organza Dress

I Have A Question: 1950s Ceil Chapman Basket Weave Velvet Floral Ribbon Silk Organza Dress

Ceil Chapman was an American designer of classic cocktail and party dresses who successfully took the revered Christian Dior "New Look" haute couture designs that most woman could not even hope to afford and reworked them into designs that American woman could attain. She won the Coty American Fashion Critic's Award in 1945, the John Wanamaker Award, Foley's "Golden Year" Award, and the Strawbridge and Clothier seal of confidence, for creative contribution in the area of American fashion. In 1955, she won the Mademoiselle Merit Award, after a poll asking college girls to cite the country's most popular designer for the young. She won by a landslide. Her self-named label was launched in the mid-1940s and continued to the to the mid-sixties.

This dress is one of the prettiest pieces I have ever had in the shop. It is not perfect but its imperfections can be worked with and I think that some girl out there is going to feel very, very lucky to have snagged this dress at this price. It is cut into that classic party, cocktail dress of the era, with a fitted bodice, nipped in waist and a very full skirt. The fabric is a very fine silk organza that is the palest possible blush nude pink. The interior layers are finished in the same color and the layers of silk, netting, tulle and more organza, give it both structure through the bodice and fullness through the skirts. There are no extra crinolines used in this photo. The volume that you see is all the interior skirts that are built in. The dress is covered in a pale mint green velvet ribbon trim mixed with a second ribbon that has the sweetest little flowers made out of the ribbon fabric. Over the bodice the ribbons are set onto the silk in a basket weave pattern that emphasizes the fit. They are also set to bring extra attention to the bust. On the skirt these ribbons are set in rows that circle all the way around the skirt. I love how she has used this detailing to highlight the cut of the dress but it also gives the already feminine dress an even more romantic feel. It is an extraordinary dress in every way. These early Chapman pieces are very hard to come by and you can see the masterful dressmaking techniques she employed in this piece. This would also make a wonderful wedding dress for the bride who does not want to wear a traditional white dress. It presents as excellent condition but does have some areas that will need further reinforcement. Please review the full condition notes below.

Fully lined in a combination of palest pink silk, netting, tulle and more organza. The interior bodice is lightly boned and shaped and the interior layers of the skirt are built in. It closes with a side painted metal zipper. The organza between the two types of ribbon at the top of each shoulder is shattering. It is at the very top of the shoulder and then extends part way down but does not go into the bodice. I see one tiny area of shattering on the silk near the back of one arm hole that appears very stable. All the rest of the silk appears stable at this time. The straps could be backed with a similar colored, or nude colored silk and stabilized. There is an area of the inner layer of the skirt at the back hem that has a part of the edge missing. The way the skirt seems to falls once it is on the body, the hem area where this flaw is seems to land inside a soft inward fold and it is the layer under the exterior layer, so you really only notice it when it is off the body and laying flat. Some minor grubbiness to the fabric here and there. Photos of these areas can be seen after the photo of the label. It is sent in as found, clean condition and is sold as a final sale.

Bust: 18" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: 14" flat across from side seam to side seam

Skirt: 33.5" from waist to hem

I Have a Question

1970s Christian Dior Silk Pink Fuschia Ruffled Evening Cape or Shawl

I Have A Question: 1970s Christian Dior Silk Pink Fuschia Ruffled Evening Cape or Shawl

The vivid pink of this silk ruffled Dior evening piece is absolutely exquisite. Even though it a a bright pow of color it will still suit most skin tones and be a dramatic pop of color to any look. It is made from a high end silk taffeta. The design is genius in its simplicity and shows what a master cutter Marc Bohan as. Off the body it is a simple huge rectangle of fabric with a U shaped cutout down on half in the center. The ends of the U become the front panels and the more solid other half the panel that drapes down the back. Once on the body it seems to magically transform and become a proper evening cape. The ruffles that edge it all the way around frame the face and create volume and drama around the arms and all around the hem. The ruffles are also set in a layered double row so they have a little more structure ad support to them. There are no closures so the cut is open and generous and this will allow it to fit all sizes. It is hard to define it as a true shawl, a poncho or a cape but it is definitely fabulous. The fabric choice give the ruffled edges volume and shape and just enough weight to have it sit perfectly once you drape it onto yourself. It is absolutely wonderful in every aspect. Excellent condition with one small note below.

Unlined and it has no closures. Made to demi-couture standards. The open cut will allow it to fit almost any size. There is an area where there are some very light water marks. The volume of the fabric and the very very slight change in color means you would never notice this when on but will see it when laid out flat in in certain lighting. This areas has been photoed and you can review that after the photo of the label. Note the pink in person is richer and deeper. It is even better in person!

It measures 42" fat across for the width and is 70" long from end to end. Once on this means each side is approx 35 long from the shoulder

Rare c.1969 Yves Saint Laurent Floral Cotton Canvas Brocade Spy Coat

I Have A Question: Rare c.1969 Yves Saint Laurent Floral Cotton Canvas Brocade Spy Coat

This wonderful coat is an exceptional piece of the early work that Yves was doing for his Rive Gauche line. This is from the time period of those very first few years of the label and it is wonderful to have it come into the shop. I found a shot of Jane Birkin that appeared ion the March 1969 issue Vogue and the coat is strikingly similar in cut and line. In 1969, Yves was quoted as saying; "My dream is to make things that can be mixed together; a coat is only beautiful, for me, if a woman can buy it and wear it with anything." I believe that this is just the kind of coat he meant when he designed it.

The lines of the coat are wonderful and if it was full length I would have been tempted to coin it as a Great coat silhouette as it has that same fitted upper body and flared skirt that those coats have. Though this shorter length does give it a bit of a Spy coat feel I think. It is made out of a cotton twill that has a canvas feeling finish to it. This has then been lightly coated and parts of the design have an almost painted feel to them. That is layered over a floral print that is worked directly into the weave of the fabric. The combination of the fabric and its technique is unusual and quite beautiful. The colors are a deep muted red that is mixed with deep corals and navies. The backdrop color changes as it works it way over the coat and the pattern is laid out in horizontal strips that emphasize the cut of the coat. The upper body is fitted with long slim sleeves. The collar is huge, it ends in large points and covers the entire upper bodice with its size. This is a design element that you see Yves use through the next several seasons. The waist is brought in under that and then the skirt flares out. Big slant pockets sit on each hip with pointed flaps over them. The back is vented so that the flared silhouette is kept as you move. This is a fabulous piece of Yves early work for the Rive Gauche line. Excellent condition

Fully lined in a deep gold silk. It buttons to close at the front as seen and has an interior side tie as well. Pockets on each hip and light padding through the shoulders. There is some minor grubbiness and very slight change of color the lining here and there. Tagged a 42 but cut small.

1950s Philip Hulitar Couture Floral Printed Silk Knife Pleated Dress

I Have A Question: 1950s Philip Hulitar Couture Floral Printed Silk Knife Pleated Dress

This dress is absolutely incredible and the workmanship that has been put into making it is just extraordinary. It really is one of the most phenomenal dresses I have ever had in the shop. Philip Hulitar designed under his own namesake label from 1949 to his retirement in 1964. He was known for his sophisticated cocktail dresses and evening gowns. Shortly after the launch of his label, a journalist wrote; 'The star of a gifted designer has risen recently on the fashion horizon'. Prior to launching his own label, Mr Hulitar was the in-house designer and head of the women's dress division for Bergdorf Goodmans for 18 years.

This dress is really a thing of beauty and shows the high level of meticulous care put into the execution of design during this time period. The fabric is a high end, luxurious silk in a pale dusty blue. Onto this is a hand screened  custom floral design. The print is set onto the silk in a soft washed feel like a watercolor painting. The silk has then been meticulously hand pleated into rows of sharp knife pleats that are stacked one upon each other. They are set so that the pleats are facing upwards rather then facing down as you would typically see. This gives the fabric a slightly surreal edgy feel and as gravity slightly pulls them and opens them the lines of the body are exaggerated. It is really spectacular in person. The bodice is strapless and fitted. Inside it is boned and shaped. The silk is draped into place by hand draping it to closely follow every curve. It cinches in at the waist and then follows the curve of the hips and narrows at the hem The back is spectacular with a large half bow that sits above a tightly gathered ruffle. This begins at the low back and slowly tapers out just above the knees. Everything on this dress is done to create that highly sculptural shape. Overall excellent condition with some notes to review below

Fully lined in a cream silky rayon and closes with a hand set back painted metal zipper. The interior bodice is boned. The back bow snaps into place. I see some extremely minor pinholes along the one part of the top pf the bodice at the fold and some very minor watermarks on the silk near the hem. It has a area of fading on one hip that I have photoed and placed after the label photo for your review. It can be seen in some of the photos before that as well. You could perhaps shorten it to remove this area or just wear it as is and not worry about it. It is marked a lot lower in price then it would be but for this area.

Immaculate 1960s Courreges Unusually Seamed Camel Toggle Coat

I Have A Question: Immaculate 1960s Courreges Unusually Seamed Camel Toggle Coat

This coat is stunning in its simplicity and sense of timelessness. It is made out of a light wool that has almost a jersey finish to it. The color in person is more of a true camel than how my camera could capture it and I think the color is far better in person. This is a classic Courreges choice of fabrication and he often used variations of this fabric because of how it would hold his desired shapes but still feel comfortable on the body. There is a slight ribbed texture to it and this picks up on that intricate seaming that details both the back and front of the coat. Each seam is set on a sharp angle that angles in towards the waist. This visually gives the illusion of shape even though the coat is cut fairly straight on the body. It also adds an interesting design element to an otherwise fairly simply cut coat. The collar is pointed but not overwhelming in size. This tops a row of small neat buttons that loop to close through fabric toggles. It is cut to slightly curve in at the waist and then gently flare out to the hem. Two decorative toggle buttons sit at the back to carry the design through. I love how the pockets that sit on each hip are hidden along one of those angled seams. Very chic and very couture in feel. Excellent condition with a very minor note below.

Fully lined in a matching colored silk. Buttons to close at the front with decorative buttons at the back. Hand finished throughout. The color is a more true camel in person. There is very minor chipping to the buttons edges at the back (please see photo after the label shot), but otherwise looks to have been worn very little, if at all. The easy cut will fit a variety of sizes. Tagged a Courreges B

Beautiful 1950s Helena Barbieri Strapless Pink & Gold Silk Brocade Dress

I Have A Question: Beautiful 1950s Helena Barbieri Strapless Pink & Gold Silk Brocade Dress

I am always so pleased to have a Helena Barbieri piece come into the shop as they are a rare label to find and each is very special. Her specialty was formal wear and her signature looks included decadent details and extremely fine, unusual fabrics. You would be hard pressed to find modern counterparts as finely done and constructed as far as the workmanship and detailing in one of her gowns has. This one is especially beautiful and it literally made me gasp out loud when I first saw it.

The fabric on this dress is a beautiful silk brocade that has a secondary gold design woven through its surface. This design runs over the entire dress and the silk seems to almost glow from within as a result of this color combination. The pink has a very rich and vibrant feel to it and in person, it has a more luminescent effect to it then how it photoed. I know the person who buys this will be very pleased once they see this one in real life. The bodice is strapless and it is cut to curve around the bust in a way that makes it appeared to be wrapped and tied into place. The waist is defined below this with a wide inset band of the same fabric. This tops a beautifully cut skirt that has pleats set along the hips so that you get a soft fullness there. Once you move you realize that there is also a good deal of fabric in that skirt and it moves wonderfully. It is cut to be slightly longer at the back. The construction of this dress is impeccable. It is also drop dead gorgeous. Excellent condition with one small note below to review.

Fully lined with pink silk organza through the skirt and a white muslin through the bodice. Ribbon finished seams  at the hem and boning through the bodice with a hook and eye interior waist stay. Hand finishes. Closes with a back painted metal zipper. There is the slightest loosening of the cross weft of the silk along the bodice edges on each side but it does not effect the appearance when on at all. I photoed each side and you can see these after the label photograph. The price has been reduced quite a bit as a result. It is very strong and wearable as is.

I Have a Question

1960s George Stavropoulos Strapless Layered Light Pink SIlk Chiffon Dress

I Have A Question: 1960s George Stavropoulos Strapless Layered Light Pink SIlk Chiffon Dress

George Stavropoulos was known for his evening wear and his signature looks that often involved draping and the use of multiple layers of silk done on a bias cut. By the early 1980s a gown by him started at around $8500 and they went up in cost from there. That starting price point equals to around $26,000 USD in modern terms. So when you buy a vintage Stavropoulos gown you are getting incredible value for your money.

This is a wonderful example of his work and the construction is on par with demi-couture. It is also a soft and romantic shade of pastel pink that I love. It is a color that is very flattering on most skin tones. The dress is constructed from layers of light weight silk chiffon. It is a strapless and the silk chiffon layers float over an inner, more fitted dress that is made of a silk crepe in a slightly more vibrant shade of pink. This inner dress has a corseted, boned inner bodice that keeps the dress in place. From there it skims over the body in a column to the floor. Over this interior structure are three full layers of a soft pink silk chiffon. It is cut so the back has an extra feel of volume and you get a more cascading almost caped feel. I love how the layers softly tier at the front breaking the line just a touch and giving the eye a bit of visual interest. It is very beautiful in person and better then how it has photographed. Excellent condition

Fully lined in pink silk crepe. The interior lining is constructed so it is like a full finished dress inside and out, over which the chiffon layers float. It closes with a back painted metal zipper. Hand finished throughout. The bodice has interior boning through the lining and smaller, fabric encased boning spaced around the bust area for a little additional support. The pink is a slightly softer pink in person.

Bust: to 17" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: 13.5" flat across from side seam to side seam the inside dress
Hips: to 21" flat across from side seam to side seam the inside dress

1960s Mr. Blackwell Gold & Silver Beaded Loop Design Ivory Silk Dress

I Have A Question: 1960s Mr. Blackwell Gold & Silver Beaded Loop Design Ivory Silk Dress

Richard Blackwell launched his label in the late 1950s and even at that time his dresses sold for between $800 and $1000 (or up to $10,000 in the modern terms). He dressed many of the big stars of the day including Jane Russell, Dorothy Lamour and Jayne Mansfield. I love finding his pieces and this dress is wonderful. The cut of this dress is kept fairly simple so that the bead work on it can shine. The front is cut with a high, straight across cut neckline and then the back is scooped. Through the body it is cut in more of a sheath silhouette. The dress skims over the torso and glides in for just a touch of shape at the waist. The skirt below that is also kept fairly simple with a slim cut pencil shape. Over the entire dress is a looping design that is made entirely of rows of gold & silver beads that were hand placed and set to create the design that you see. They have a slight raised 3D effect and give the otherwise simple dress a shot of glamour. It also gives it a bit of a showgirl feel I think and I love the final effect as it adds a touch of glitz but without being too flashy. Excellent condition with one small note below to review.

Fully lined through the body in an ivory colored silk and closes with a back painted metal zipper. The embellishments are hand placed and sewn. There is the slightest touch of yellowing to the fabric at the middle of the back. Please see the photo provided of that area after the shot of the label. Hand finished throughout

Fall 2007 Oscar de la Renta Sequin & Bead on Ivory Boucle Wool Runway Dress

I Have A Question: Fall 2007 Oscar de la Renta Sequin & Bead on Ivory Boucle Wool Runway Dress

This was Look 38 on the runway for the Fall of 2007. At this period in time, Oscar was still alive and the Creative head of his self named label which means this would be one of his designs. Nicole Phelps of Vogue said of this collection; 't could've been a movie, so picture-perfect was Oscar de la Renta's take on the good life. From beginning to end, and day to night, the collection sparkled.' Indeed the entire collection that season was embellished and detailed with glitz. This dress was a stand out and has an interesting mix of feeling perfectly feminine and proper, while the extensive matte pewter bead work gives it an almost armor feel.

The dress is superbly constructed and feels high end form the first glance. The base fabric is a textured ivory boucle that has just enough weight to it that it feels luxurious but is not too heavy to wear comfortably. Onto this is an extensive design made of square matte silver sequin beads, mixed with matching crystals in a variety of sizes and and large pailettes that are all hand placed and applied to the dress. These circle the neck where they are set on little triangles and have rhinestones scattered in the design as well. Around each sleeve is a wide band of the square sequins with bead work detailing each sleeve further. Two wide bands of embellishment circle the hem. Around the waist is the most extensive beading of all and these are also detailed with large square sequins and more beads. It is quite striking and dramatic and yet still retains that classic elegance that the best of Oscar's work has. The dress is new and has never been worn. It still has all of its retail tags attached. Excellent condition.

Fully lined in an ivory silk and closes at the back with a hidden set zipper. The dress has all of its original tags attached and has never been worn. Tagged a US 4 but seems generous in its cut so p,ease know your size in ODLR or make sure to check the measurements below.

I Have a Question

Spring 2007 Emilio Pucci by Matthew Williamson Sequin Runway Dress

I Have A Question: Spring 2007 Emilio Pucci by Matthew Williamson Sequin Runway Dress

In 2007 it was Matthew Williamson that was the Creative Head for Pucci and this particular dress was a stand out that season. Vogue's review of the collection said in part: "It's for the kind of young and ravey party girls who look to Zoe for tips, ideal for being papped in from beach to nightclub, Ibiza to Bali, Saint-Tropez to South Beach....As you'd expect from a British designer who's made it his business to hang with It girls, Williamson treated Pucci to a dose of what's going on in the London club scene...He took Pucci archive prints and punched them up into the brightest turquoise, aqua, peach, purple, orange, and electric blue, styling them with mirrored cutout wedges, sixties enamel disc pendants and giant cuffs"

This was Look 15 on the Runway show and it feels as fresh now as it did then. Williamson's time at Pucci may have been short, but there were definitely stand out pieces from that period of Pucci's history and this dress is definitely one of them. On the runway a silver collar was styled with it and  layered over the neckline - an easy trick to duplicate if you loved that more sixties feel. The sixties influence is readily apparent in this dress. That halter is the exact cut of pieces of original Pucci I have had and sold. Williamson took that archival cut and then made it shorter and covered the surface with sequins. It is also elaborately beaded with 3D detailing in twisted ropes of pink and green. The beading is set as a giant medallion at the front and details the neck, hem and sides. Big stones are set in the design and the closer you get the more you fall in love. The ivory, iridescent sequins that cover every other inch of the surface catch the light beautifully. The dress ties around the neck and is easy to wear through the body as it is fairly straight in its cut with just the suggestion of indentation at the waist. The dress is new and has never been worn. It still has all of its retail tags attached. Excellent condition.

1960s Emilio Pucci Blue & Purple Beautiful Sun Print Velvet Dress

I Have A Question: 1960s Emilio Pucci Blue & Purple Beautiful Sun Print Velvet Dress

This beautiful Pucci dress is done in one of his signature prints that is screened onto a luxurious velvet. The color palette used for this one combines a black base with turquoise, blue, pale purples, mauve and grey. The bodice skims over the bust with a neat little V neck that is bordered by a bit of the print. It is sleeveless and the waist is cut to angle up slightly to give it just a touch of a baby doll feel through the torso. This tops a sleek and simple skirt that flares and widens out slightly as it nears the hem. The print on the skirt reminds me of a galaxy with suns and moons spinning around a curving design that swirls across the skirt. The waist and hem are finished in the same border as the neckline. This is a classic Pucci silhouette. The colors all work with each other beautifully and the choice to use velvet holds the shape perfectly. Excellent condition

Dated 1975 La Mendola Turquoise & Blues Belted Silk Shirt Dress

I Have A Question: Dated 1975 La Mendola Turquoise & Blues Belted Silk Shirt Dress

When the duo behind the La Mendola label were designing in Rome, it was women like Elizabeth Taylor and Rita Hayworth that were snapping up their pieces. By 1975, the year this dress is from, they had expanded into the American market, selling mainly made-to-order through shops like Bergdorf Goodman's like this one is from. On an interior seam we see the date this one was ordered, the style number and the client name. A fascinating glimpse into its history.

The exterior layer of this dress is made from a custom printed silk voile. The fabric holds the color beautifully and is so fine and so light that the dress is almost negligible in weight if not for its lining. The design is beautifully vibrant and bright with a mix of blues and yellows. It has a simple cut with an undefined waist and a high cut neck that is finished with a over-sized pointed collar. It buttons part way down the front and you can leave it open as low as you dare. The sleeves are long and cuffed. A matching belt in the same fabric allows you to cinch in the waist to add shape. At first glance it seems in excellent condition but it does have some small flaws and has been priced accordingly. Please review the condition notes below.

Fully lined in a light blue silk except for the sleeves which are unlined. It slips on to wear with a row of hand covered silk buttons up the front of the neck. Note that the lowest button has been replaced by a button that is not a match to the others. There is a light spot on the edging between the buttons. I also see color run at the back hem and the edge of a water mark just above that. Note that you could easily shorten this to get rid of those marks although the pattern effectively hides them anyway. Please see the two photos after the label shot. Priced accordingly and very wearable as is.

1960s Miss Dior Velvet Dress w Silver Sequin & Paillette Embellished Sleeves

I Have A Question: 1960s Miss Dior Velvet Dress w Silver Sequin & Paillette Embellished Sleeves

The Miss Dior label launched in 1967 and it was meant to appeal more to the daughters of the established couture clients. The boutique was right next door to the Couture atelier and the line was sold only there and in stores throughout France. In December of 1970 the line hit the US market, in place of the by then finished Dior-New York label. It was an instant hit. The clothing produced for this label was made in the Dior workrooms and was designed primarily by Phillipe Guiborgé, who also designed the Boutique lines, but was still overseen and finalized by Marc Bohan.

The dress is so gorgeous in person. Black velvet is always the hardest fabric to photo and really catch the elements of the piece properly. If you even remotely love it in the photos you will be even happier when you see it in person. This is classic sixties in its design. The shape is that flattering mod shift silhouette that falls from the shoulders and skims over the body to the hem. At the hem it gently widens out in a slight flare. The neckline on this one is set high and the collar has been doubled over so that you get the softness of the velvet against the skin. I love how the fabric is gathered just slightly at the base of the collar for the subtlest of details. The sleeves are the star of the show on this one and each is absolutely spectacular. They are cuffed and close with velvet covered buttons. Above each cuff they balloon out with wonderful volume. To further highlight the volume of each sleeve, they are covered with hand applied silver pailettes and beads. Most of these are stacked atop each other and the sizes range to quite large. The effect is a 3D finish to each sleeve that is amazing. Even better in person. Excellent condition

Fully lined in a hand set, fine black silk and closes with a back zipper. Each cuff buttons to close with velvet covered buttons and loops. The applique work is hand placed and hand sewn into place.

1970s Bill Blass Feather Light Red Ruffled Tiered Skirt Silk Chiffon Dress

I Have A Question: 1970s Bill Blass Feather Light Red Ruffled Tiered Skirt Silk Chiffon Dress

This beautiful red silk chiffon dress by Bill Blass is absolutely stunning. It is also beautifully made and the closer you start to look at it the more you start to see the fine detailing on it. The work that would have gone into piecing this together with that weightless and fine silk chiffon is astounding. It is completely cut on the bias but also has defined seams so that you get the ease and movement of the bias cut through the skirt but with a slightly more fitted feel through the bodice. It slides over the body to define your curves but not in a tight or overtly fitted kind of way. The neckline is scooped and finished with a soft ruffle that ties in with the other ruffled parts of the dress. Each sleeve is capped and finished with that same ruffle. The bodice sits over an interior halter made of silk and this gives you a play on the transparency. The back buttons to close with a series of silk covered buttons. A piped tie of the same silk gives the waist a touch of added definition and below that the skirt falls to the floor in a cascade of ruffles. The skirt is made up of three tiers and each curves and scoops upwards at the front. This leave a bit of a slit under the ruffles. It also gives the ruffles a pretty cascading effect down the front. The ruffles circle all the way around the skirt on each tier and this gives a pretty detailing from the back view as well. Once on you feel like the silk is just floating around and over you and it is almost like wearing nothing at all. It is truly beautiful. Excellent condition

Fully lined in a second interior built in layer of the same, fine red silk chiffon as the exterior layer. It closes with a hidden back zipper and then the the buttons close over that. All hand finished. The color is absolutely fantastic - that perfect clear cherry red that flatters most skin tones. It is a touch more brighter, clearer red in person then how it photoed. It will drape to fit and the fabric does have some give due to the bias cut. Comes with its original piped tie belt made of the same silk

Documented 1980 Bill Tice Plunging Front Red Jersey & Gold Belt Dress

I Have A Question: Documented 1980 Bill Tice Plunging Front Red Jersey & Gold Belt Dress

I love when I get versions of this dress in the shop and this one in this deep red burgundy color is extra special and the first time i have had or seen this color for this model. These were made in the 1980-1981 time period and I have included two ads from those years that show similar versions with the same gold belt at the waist. Versions of these Bill Tice pieces have been worn by countless celebrities for the red carpet and events. Lady Gaga wore a version, as have girls like Rachel Zoe & Nicole Richie and every girl that has bought one through me has absolutely loved it. It is just one of those fail-safe pieces that you know is going to work every time you put it on. It is also insanely sexy with that front cut to plunges almost to the waist. But even with that deep front it feels pretty secure once it is on the body because of how it is cut. The way it ties at the waist also allows you to control how deep the plunge sits once it's on. It is made of a liquid, slinky jersey that feels amazing on. This fabric has the added bonus of traveling very well. It is the kind of piece you can throw into your suit case and slip on upon arrival with either flats or heels and you are instantly ready to walk out the door. There is a high slit at one side that shows when you walk or sit and I love the belt. This is a Tice signature. It is attached and covered with a gold lurex on the topmost side. It is cut wide and then top stitched. This adds an instant dose of high glamour and also allows you to cinch in the shape as much as you want. Excellent condition.

Unlined and slips over the head to wear. It has elastic through the front part of the waist and ties with the attached gold belt. Very light padding in the shoulders. The easy fit and elastic waist should allow it to work on a variety of sizes.

Sleeves: approx 24"
Shoulders: no true defined seam as they are dropped
Bust: open
Waist: 15-17" flat across from side seam to side seam untied - you can cinch it in a lot from here if needed
Hips: to 28" flat across from side seam to side seam
Bodice: 16" from neck to waist
Skirt: 44.5" from waist to hem

1960s Emilio Pucci Scalloped Edge Tunic & Wide Pant Printed Velvet Set

I Have A Question: 1960s Emilio Pucci Scalloped Edge Tunic & Wide Pant Printed Velvet Set

I am obsessed with the velvet pieces that Pucci was creating in the 1960s and 1970s. The depth of color he could achieve with this fabric and the richness it creates is wonderful. Of course, among vintage collectors, his velvet pieces have always been one the most prized to find. This one is not perfect. It has some discoloration issues to the velvet in some parts but is otherwise strong and sturdy. I had it cleaned twice and I don't think it will get much better then this. I am listing it for what I paid for and the costs put into it so far. If you don't mind that your vintage is not entirely perfect this is a tremendous deal as these easy go for twice this or more if perfect.

This is a two piece set and each of the two pieces are equally strong whether they are worn together or as separates. The pants are flat fronted with a sleek and simple waist that does not have a waist band. He often would just finished the waist with the print giving it a finished look but keep it flat fitting and flattering. They zip to close at the side with a hand set, painted metal zipper. This sleek cut gives them a great fit and really allows the print that covers them to be shown off. The pants are cut quite wide and by the hem, each is full 28.5" around. The fabric choice holds their shape beautifully. The tunic that tops the pants slips on and zips to close at the side. It is sleeveless and I love how the top and bottom hem are finished in big looping curved half circle scallops. The print picks up the same print of the pants and it would have had to have been laid out onto the fabric deliberately to be able to achieve the cut and shape that you see. A technique all but foregone now as it adds so much extra cost. The colors in the velvet are fabulous. Both pieces have that classic Pucci print in bright pops of pink and turquoise against the black and ivory back drop. This is a very rare and wonderful set. Presents as good condition at first glance and is sound and sturdy but please read the full condition notes below.

The tunic is fully lined in an ivory silk and closes with a hand set, side painted metal zipper. The pants are lined in an ivory silky rayon and close with a side painted metal zipper. The interior lining in the pants is discolored at the interior seam between the legs and around the interior waist. The velvet looks grubby and dirty around the waist where hands would have touched it repeatedly and it has taken on a yellowish feel. I see a storage spot that mostly gets lost on the print on one upper leg. The shoulders of the tunic have that same grubby yellowish tint to them and the white parts under the arms have a slight yellowing to them. There are minor faint marks here and there. Please review all provided photos. t is otherwise sound and still in my opinion very wearable if you don't mind a set that is not perfect.

Sold as found and final sale.

Note that it is tiny and did not sit on my dress form properly. It will sit far better on the proper sized girl

Spring 2018 Vivetta Floral Embroidery, Feather Cuff & Metallic Brocade Dress

I Have A Question: Spring 2018 Vivetta Floral Embroidery, Feather Cuff & Metallic Brocade Dress

Designer Vivetta Ponti found Russian painter Andrey Remnev's work through Instagram and it led to a collaboration that showed itself on the 2018 runway. This dress was not shown on the runway but you can see parts of what make it up if you look through the presentation for that season. The same embroidered flowers adorn Looks 6 and 7; the feathered cuffs are on Look 2 and then there are more feathers on the closing two looks of the show; and finally, the metallic prints are referenced on Look 34. All these various elements have then come together on this dress and the result is magical.

The dress is so dramatic and so very pretty. It is cut to leave the shoulders exposed and bare. The bodice below that hugs and molds to your curves and the fabric has a bit of stretch to allow it to do this. Across the front are those beautiful huge blue flowers and the thread used for the embroidery has touches of metallic to it so that they really pop. Below this the skirt is shaped in a classic curved bell with lots of fullness to it. Even more in person then how it photoed on my dress form. It sits just about princess length once on, so that you get a peek of the shoe that you pair with it. The skirt is made from a gold lurex thread and has curving bands of the same shades of blue used in the flowers above. Between those an entire field of pink and green flowers circle around the skirt. Just above the top wavy line are little blue birds woven into the fabric. The sleeves finish the look dramatically with a huge explosion of hand dyed blue feathers that are set in expanding rows. It is just gorgeous. Some of her feather gowns that season retailed for over $10,000. This one still has its original hang tag and was never worn. Excellent condition

The skirt has an inner lining in a nude color and the top is unlined and closes with a hidden set back zipper. Original hang tag attached.

I have a small collection of historically important, key designer labelled vintage furs, fur trimmed & feather pieces stored away in my archives that I will be slowly posting on the site over the next couple of years until I have none left. I will no longer be buying furs for the shop moving forward and have not purchased anything for several years now. I feel like times have changed and while there still is a place for vintage furs for some, including collectors and historians, many modern girls are choosing other options. Many of the pieces in my collection are representative of the designer during a set time period in history that was different then our modern outlook. I have decided that the best course to handle this controversial issue is to let the pieces I have go rather then sit in a cold storage unit. All fur coats, fur trimmed & feather pieces are final sale

c.1971 Bill Gibb Embroidered Ivory Cotton Gauze Dress & Jacket Set

I Have A Question: c.1971 Bill Gibb Embroidered Ivory Cotton Gauze Dress & Jacket Set

This lovely Bill Gibb set is from the turn of the 1970s and early on in his label's history. Gibb was one of the most influential and famous designers in 1970s Britain and his clothes were sought out and worn by the rich and famous. This two piece dress and jacket set is absolutely gorgeous and a wonderful example of his work.

The set consists of loose, swing cut jacket and a pinafore feeling dress that buttons up the back. The dress has straps that curve up and around the neck to cross over at the back. This leaves a nice low scoop to the back. The front has his signature bib finish and onto this front panel is an elaborate pattern embroidered onto the cotton. The cut swings out from there to be very full by the time it reaches the hem. It buttons up the back and opens completely when unbuttoned. The jacket is a work of art and is cut with high capped shoulders and is finished with a ribbed grosgrain ribbon down the front and around the hem.  It has no closures and is cut to be very full through the body. Big pleats run down the back to help accomplish this and to add design detail. The cuffs are incredible with working button and loops set on a backdrop of that same ribbon finish for an almost 'dandy' feel to them. The fabric is a soft gauze cotton that has little embroidered squares set over the surface as well as little boxes of tiny cut outs. Both pieces are fully lined in an ivory satin so you can't see all the way through the cut outs but they do add a wonderful bit of extra texture. This is a rare and absolutely wonderful set. Excellent condition.

Both pieces are fully lined in an ivory satin. The dress buttons to close at the back. The jacket has no closures. Note the set purposely has a soft, almost 'lived in' feel due to the fabric choice.

1978 Halston Off White Ivory One Shoulder Draped Jersey Maxi Dress

I Have A Question: 1978 Halston Off White Ivory One Shoulder Draped Jersey Maxi Dress

And just this year, Martha Hunt wore this exact dress from us to Cannes and she landed on several Best Dressed lists as a result. This was issued on a variety of colors and this one is a wonderful and quite rare white version.

These will fit a variety of sizes since they are not cut to be super fitted and the jersey does have some stretch. Tagged a vintage Small.

I Have a Question

1970-1974 Janice Wainwright Embroidery & Sequin Tiered Jersey Cape Dress

I Have A Question: 1970-1974 Janice Wainwright Embroidery & Sequin Tiered Jersey Cape Dress

The label on this dress instantly gives us a date of between 1970-1974. 1970 was the year Janice Wainwright launched her own label and after 1974 her labels only carry her name, not the full ‘Janice Wainwright at Forty Seven Poland Street,’ that we see here. These four years are what has forever defined Janice and her work. She excelled at these embroidered pieces and the Art Deco & Nature inspired designs that she loved flourished and became one of her signatures.

This dress is a beauty. Her caftans and dresses by her during this time period and of this quality are among my very favorites of her work. As mentioned above, it has the added bonus of having the coveted, earliest Janice Wainwright at Forty Seven Poland Street label. The dress is made up of a black stretch jersey that is set on angles tiers so it feels like it spirals around the body. This gives it a loose and easy feel when you wear it even though underneath it is a little more fitted then how it appears. The sleeves are cut out from the shoulders with an almost caped effect that also gives them a touch of a kimono feel. To further highlight the upper portion of the shoulder and sleeves she has added her signature embroidery. Rows of color mixed with giant embroidered flowers runs extensively across the top of the dress. I love that the panels in between the resulting rectangles of embroidery have been finished with a sheer chiffon rather then the opaque jersey. This means that you get a touch of transparency over each arm and it breaks the black of the rest of the dress. The front and back is cut in a high V that the embroidery accentuates. The body of the dress under the tiers is a long sheath with no real defined waistline. Silver sequins, each placed and sewn by hand, highlight the design at the top for the perfect finish. It is beautiful. Excellent condition

The inner dress under the tiers acts as the lining. It slips over the head to wear. The fabric does have some stretch.

1970s Victor Costa Black Full Skirted Dotted Net & Velvet Bow Dress

I Have A Question: 1970s Victor Costa Black Full Skirted Dotted Net & Velvet Bow Dress

This is a very eye catching dress by Victor Costa.  The dress combines a soft black velvet with a dotted net fabric and I love these two fabrics work together. It has a princess length skirt that is quite full. This is created by placing the net fabric over an inner layer of black rayon taffeta. The volume primarily comes from the netting  and how that is been inserted in and around the waist seam. In real life it feels even fuller then how it photoed. You could also add a crinoline under the skirt if you really wanted to to get  even more fullness and more towards that fifties cupcake shape.  The bodice is a more fitted velvet that is lightly boned to give shape and structure to the bust. It is finished with a curved sweetheart neckline. Attached into this is the upper part of the bodice that is made of the same doted netting of the skirt but for this part of the dress it is left unlined. The sleeves are fabulous. Each is tremendously full and gathered for maximum volume. The final finishing touch is a sweet little bow fused into the netting that sits on the upper chest. It is a real little beauty. Excellent condition with one minor note to review below

The skirt has an inner lining of silky rayon taffeta  and the bodice is lined in the same. Light boning through the bodice and it closes with a back painted nylon and metal zipper with buttons above that to the neck. There is one tiny break in one layer only of the netting on the front right above the corner of the velvet bow. Please review the photo provided after the label shot

Fall 1998 Christian Dior Vibrant Pink Mohair Skirt & Jacket Suit

I Have A Question: Fall 1998 Christian Dior Vibrant Pink Mohair Skirt & Jacket Suit

My Client purchased this in the late 1990s which would land it under John Galliano's era and right near the start of his tenure at the house. This cut was used for the 1997 Couture show and then this would have been the commercial version produced for Winter of the following year.

It is an amazing suit that still feels perfectly on point for a modern girl, maybe even more so now then when it would have been produced. The skirt is cut in a sleek, short little flare that skims over the hips and lands just above the knee. The jacket is beautifully constructed and is cut to fit and flatter the body. The shoulders are rounded with no seam inserting the sleeve into the jacket. Instead everything is cut from the fabric to create an unbroken line. The padding underneath is rounded to give it a strong shoulder but with soft padding and a very feminine, couture feel. The waist is shaped by vertical, curved seaming so that it curves inwards and gives the jacket shape. The hips flare back out and have slight padding at their outer flare to give them even more shape and it also gives a respectful nod to Christian's New Look silhouette. The sleeves are left long and simple worth a button on each cuff as a finish. I love the rounded and notched collar and the little pocket that wrap around the outer edge of each hip. The fabric deserves its own mention and its looped mohair and wool are its own wonderful little detail. The color is not to be ignored either and if you are looking for a statement suit this is it. Excellent condition

Both pieces are fully lined in a pink silk satin. The jacket buttons to close at the front and the skirt has a back zipper. Decorative button on each cuff of the jacket.  Rounded padding in shoulders and slight padding through the hips. The pockets on the jacket are still tacked shut. Tagged a US 8. It appears to have never been worn of worn very little. The color is slightly different in person and more a true pink then how it photoed

I Have A Question: Recent Versace Purple Curved Panel w Netted Sides Stretch Bandage Dress

This Versace dress is made to get attention. It has that nod to the sports factor with its netted sides and stretch Lycra fabric, but is otherwise pure Versace. It combines a light purple with highlights of black and white. The placement of the colors gives even more illusion of a curved figure even though the stretch fabric leaves little to chance anyway. I love how the panels curve around the body. The sides are a black net and the closer you get, the more you realize that you can see a glimpse of skin through the panels. The top is unusual in that the straps come up and out of both the black layer of fabric and the purple layer. They can actually sit lower down on a real shoulder for an interesting cut out feel. Excellent overall condition with one small note to review below

Unlined and zips at the back to close. It is tagged a 44. There is the slightest touch of very very faint changes to the purple parts. I photoed one spot (see the shot after the label photo) and you can see its so faint. It is almost not required to mention but as I turn it in the light I can see it very faintly here and there. I think I am being super picky and it may just be the nature of the fabric. Measurements list are the comfortable stretch laying flat. They should stretch a little more if needed once on an actual body.

Bust: 15.75 - 17,75" flat across from side seam to side seam

I Have A Question: 1980s Liza Bruce Printed Spandex Stretch Fitted Body Con Dress

Liza Bruce started designing high end swimwear in 1982 and she was known for her use of Lycra which made her suits cling to the body. She soon added dresses into the mix and it is one of hers that Kate Moss famously wore in 1993 that was virtually see-through. She used as little seaming as possible in her suits and dresses and like her swimwear, the clothing she designed was meant to emphasize a girls curves. This dress is perfectly representative of that and is made from that stretch nylon and spandex fabric that will fit like a second skin. The print combines color and pattern beautifully. The neckline is scooped and the back scooped even deeper. This is a fabulous piece of eighties fashion in mint condition and that still feels modern now. Excellent condition

Unlined and slips on to wear. Tagged a S and the fabric has stretch so should fit an XS-MED. Measurements show the comfortable stretch lying flat but it should stretch even a bit more if needed once on an actual body. Note the base color is more a purple tone then the blue it photoed as.

c.1969 Ossie Clark Dress w Iconic Celia Birtwell 'Pineapple' Print

I Have A Question: c.1969 Ossie Clark Dress w Iconic Celia Birtwell 'Pineapple' Print

This wonderful Ossie dress features a mix of two of Celia Birtwell's prints. A pretty floral design is mixed with her iconic pineapple print that runs over the entire dress. Both are screened onto a crepe chiffon, a fabric choice that holds the color exceptionally well so it still feels crisp. In the book 'Celia Birtwell', Ceila notes that the pineapple print was: "influenced by '30s day dresses. I like ladylike, small prints, ones worn by women of a certain age." The influence of the thirties is also evident in the cut of the dress. It is cut on the bias and this give the fabric the room to move and drape as Ossie wished. When it is on the body the bias cut gives the dress movement and allows it to move with you. The skirt is constructed from two tiers of fabric that are layered over each other. Each tier flares out to give it a swing feel. I love the contrast of the prints together too. The dress skims up and over the waist, ending at a high set triangle of the opposite print that anchors the plunging bodice. Each shoulder has a keyhole of bare skin exposed with a tie at the top of the shoulder. Adjusting these ties allows you to decide how low on the shoulder it will sit. The back is left entirely open along a long slit that simply ties to close in two places. Excellent condition with one small note to review below.

The inner skirt acts as the lining there and the cups of the bodice are lined in a red silky rayon. It slips on to wear and closes with ties at the shoulders and two more at the back. There are some small tears to the lining of the bodice that do not go through to the exterior. I have photoed the area. All are stable and you see nothing once on. Tagged a vintage Ossie UK 14

Gorgeous 1970s Valentino Floral Printed Red Silk Jacket and Skirt Suit Set

I Have A Question: Gorgeous 1970s Valentino Floral Printed Red Silk Jacket and Skirt Suit Set

This gorgeous little set is an easy, more feminine version of the traditional suit. The base is that beautiful Valentino red that is covered in a spray of pretty little flowers in bright and happy colors. Even though it is softer in feel then a more traditional suit, it still has the elegant cut and line you expect from Valentino's work. The jacket has a lovely spring feel to it with shorter sleeves and a deep V front. I am almost hesitant to call is a jacket because it could easily pass for that or as a top. It is constructed to skim over the body with shaping through the waist by elastic that is gathered all the way around. Under that is a slight flare at the hem. A pretty set of glossy red buttons at the waist detail the front as well and string padding in each shoulder give it structure. The skirt has a simple pencil shape and has pockets on each hip. The fabric used for both pieces is a beautiful light silk crepe that give the pieces just enough weight to hold the shape and serve as a beautiful backdrop to the color. And it is even better in person. Excellent condition.

Both the dress and jacket are fully lined in a textured red silk of very high quality. The jacket closes with hidden snaps and a buttons at the waist. There is elastic set into the waist seam for ease of fit and shaping. Padding in each shoulder. The skirt closes with a side set zipper and hook and eye on the waistband. It pockets on each hip. This gorgeous little dress may not be as flashy as some pieces I have had on the site but it is absolute perfection if you are looking for a dress that will never feel inappropriate and still with a touch of detailing. It is made of a fine black silk that has the feel of a lightweight wool so it has structure and shape. It is cut to skim over the body. Yes, it does give shape but in that perfect way that feels classic. This is the type of dress that you may imagine Kate Middleton or Meghan Markle wearing in our modern world. Little cap sleeves give a touch of coverage to the upper arm and the waist is set slight above the natural waist line for the most flattering fit. The front neckline is scooped and detailed with a thick white silk cording that is hand placed and curved into a intricate pattern. I love that you can see a glimpse of skin through the cording. The fabric label on this one is hand written and the tag is numbered. This usually denotes a custom order or an order by an established client. It is extremely well made and my client says that it was never worn. Excellent condition.

Fully lined in a black silk and closes with a back set zipper. Tagged a vintage 38. Numbered tag reads 28343. Light padding in each shoulder

Shoulders: padding extends slightly beyond natural shoulder and the seams are slightly dropped at 16"
Bust: to 17" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: to 14" flat across from side seam to side seam
Hips: to 17" flat across from side seam to side seam
Bodice: 12" from top of bodice to waist
Skirt: 24.5" from waist to hem

Modern Sizing Equivalent: SML-MED

Item# DD3182

1980s Isabelle Allard Paris Strapless Ribbon Lace Dress & Cropped Jacket

I Have A Question: 1980s Isabelle Allard Paris Strapless Ribbon Lace Dress & Cropped Jacket

This dress is incredible. It is by the French designer Isabelle Allard and it has that perfect French feel about it. It is made from the most incredible fabric and when you have it in the hand and on the body, it has a couture feel to it because of that amazing fabric and high end construction. The dress is strapless and constructed to hug and fit the body. The inner construction gives it shape and form. The skirt has no venting in it to give you extra room and this allows the lower hem to curve in and gives you even more of that hourglass shape. I love how the lace is left scalloped at the edges of the top of the dress, the hem and around the jacket. The fabric itself is a 3D feeling combination of lace and black silk ribbon set into intricate designs over the lace netted base. It comes with its matching cropped jacket that is shaped to also curve around the body. The jacket is deliberately left unlined so that you really get the full effect of the ribbon adorned lacework. Rounded shoulder pads are the perfect finish and give the jacket structure. This one is for my smaller frames girls and is a tiny one. It would not fit my dress forms and has been photoed flat so on an actual body it will of course have more shape. It is exceptional. Excellent condition.

The dress is fully lined with a black silk and closes with a side set zipper. It is boned and shaped through the inner bodice. The jacket us unlined and has no closures. Padding in the shoulders. Hand finishes through out and made to demi-couture standards. Tagged a vintage 38

I Have a Question

1960s Josefa Hand Embroidered Ribbon Detailed Teal Caftan Dress w Belt

I Have A Question: 1960s Josefa Hand Embroidered Ribbon Detailed Teal Caftan Dress w Belt

I absolutely love Josefa caftans. The are like owning a piece of wearable art as each was entirely hand made, detailed and embroidered. They were made in Mexico in the late sixties to early seventies and were the epitome of Bohemian chic in their day. They are easy to wear pieces that can go from the beach, to exploring far off markets to being worn as an evening piece depending on how you style them. This one is a classic design based on a sleeved, caftan dress silhouette. The cotton is crisp and fresh feeling still and has been hand dyed to a beautiful deep teal color. It has hand placed ribbon detailing and a sprinkling of embroidery work. The ribbon work defines the neckline, cuffs and hem. It also runs down the tie belt that you can use to cinch in the waist for added shape. There are hand done embroidery details at the neckline and a tiny dot of it that anchors the back of each cuff. I love the one random flower that has been embroidered onto the front skirt. The deep teal green and the soft gold toned ribbon perfectly compliment each other. It is cut to sit slightly more fitted through the bodice and then flares out dramatically as it reaches the hem. The sleeves are cut to do the same and widen out as they near the cuffs.   Excellent condition

Unlined and closes with a back, painted metal zipper. Has its original matching tie belt. The fabric has natural variations in it. It looks to have been worn very little if at all. The color in person is slightly deeper and even better I think. The loose cut will allow it to fit a range of sizes

Sleeves: 23"
Shoulders: 15"
Bust: 19" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: to 22" flat across from side seam to side seam
Hips: to 25" flat across from side seam to side seam

I Have a Question

1978 Halston Green One Shoulder Draped Jersey Maxi Dress

I Have A Question: 1978 Halston Green One Shoulder Draped Jersey Maxi Dress

I am always on the look out for this style of dress by Halston. It is perhaps the most iconic of all of the Halston silhouettes and in 2016 a red version of this exact dress entered modern day fashion history when Kate Moss wore its twin on the red carpet at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. This was issued on a variety of colors and this one is of course the green version.

These will fit a variety of sizes since they are not cut to be super fitted and the jersey does have some stretch. Tagged a vintage Small. Note the color is slightly deeper and a touch more vibrant then how it photoed.

Bust: to 18" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: to 19" flat across from side seam to side seam
Hips: open
Length: 54" from neck to hem
Slit: 28" from hem up

I Have a Question

1960s Josefa Pink & Green Hand Embroidered Cotton Caftan Dress

I Have A Question: 1960s Josefa Pink & Green Hand Embroidered Cotton Caftan Dress

Each Josefa labeled piece was hand made in Mexico in the late sixties to early seventies. They made fabulous little caftans that are amazing pieces of art-to-wear.  They look and feel like it could have been worn by Talitha Getty or any of the other jet-set girls that really pushed the Bohemian movement forward in their day. It is an easy to wear piece that you can wear to the beach, all through a day of exploring or as an evening piece with a change of accessories. The design is based on a classic sleeved, caftan dress silhouette that pairs a finely woven, brilliantly hand dyed cotton with with hand done embroidery work. The embroidery details the entire neckline and is also down around each cuff. I love the mix of green and that dusty pink and how the embroidery works sets both off wonderfully. It is cut to be slightly more fitted through the top and then flares out dramatically as it nears the hem. Each sleeve mimics this flaring out shape. and ends with wide cuffs. This one is not perfect but the flaws are cosmetic only. If you don't mind that your vintage is not 100% then this is a delightful find.

Unlined and slips on to wear with a row of buttons across the top of each shoulder. The fabric has natural variations in it. All throughout the pink panels there are light foxing marks and I see some variations in the green as well. Please review the shot after the label photo to see the worst of it. It is strong and wearable otherwise and too pretty not to be given a chance to be loved again by someone who is OK with things not being 100% perfect. It is also priced dramatically lower then it would be normally. Note that in person the colors are slightly deeper then how they photoed and the loose cut should work on a variety of sizes

Sleeves: approx 20"
Shoulders: no defined seam but approx 15"
Bust: to 18" flat across from side seam to side seam

I Have A Question: 1970s Halston Vivid Turquoise Color One Shoulder Jersey Dress

If you don't mind that your vintage is not 100% perfect then you will be very pleased with this find. It does have some small flaws but I have marked it at less then 1/2 of what I would normally because of it. Please make sure to read the full description and review all photos as it is sold as a final sale.

Halston was a master at this cut. There is a certain sexiness caused by the illusion of having the entire dress suspended by the tie at the shoulder. It gives the sense that undoing that tie would cause the entire dress to drop in a puddle around you (which it would). It is constructed from a single layer of bias cut jersey that has been done in a vivid turquoise. It is cut to skim over the body in a long simple sheath. The dress falls from the shoulder from where it ties and the jersey cascades loosely down and over the body for the ultimate Grecian goddess feel. This is a classic dress by Halston that is easy to  care for. It is wash and wear and virtually wrinkle free which makes it perfect for traveling. It is very easy to style too - a quick change of shoe takes it day to night in a snap. Presents as excellent condition but does have flaws. Please read the full description below.

Slips on to wear and ties at the top of the shoulder. These will fit a variety of sizes since they are not cut to be super fitted and the jersey does have some stretch. The dress has a small mark at the front and some snags in the jersey. I photoed the areas and these are shown after the photo of the label. The color in person is completely even and a touch better and brighter turquoise then how it photoed. The fabric has lots of stretch and will fit a variety pf sizes

Bust-Hips: 17-20" flat across from side seam to side seam
Length: approx 59" from top of shoulder to hem depending on how you tie the shoulder you can get a little more, or less, length

Modern Sizing Equivalent: XS-MED

Resort 1986 Yves Saint Laurent Deep Plunge Front Blue Draped Silk Jersey Dress

I Have A Question: Resort 1986 Yves Saint Laurent Deep Plunge Front Blue Draped Silk Jersey Dress

This dress is made from a slinky silk jersey that has enough weight and drape to it to perfectly fall in those soft, draped, sexy lines that Yves wanted it to be. It perfectly represents this time period and yet still has a touch of the 1940s that we so often see in his work. There is also a strong nod to his 1971 'Scandal' collection with the way the gathers are set through the waist and upper hip. The shoulders are set to sit slightly awider then the natural shoulder and this gives the illusion of an even smaller waistline. It skims over the bust and is plunged to the top of the high set waist detailing. The extremely low cut V of the front gives it a sexy edgy vibe. Below this the waist is gathered and set to hug your curves all the way through to the top of the hips. The skirt flows to the floor below that and is made of yards of silk jersey that give it movement when you move. Each side also plunges right down to that top seam of the waist and this little detail is the perfect finishing touch. I love that the color is a deep blue that is a touch brighter then a true navy would be. This is a color that is flattering on any skin tone and gives it a softer feel to the dress then had it been done in a black. It is amazing once on an actual body - much, much better then it could ever look on a dress form - and a rare find. Excellent condition.

Unlined and closes at the side with a painted metal zipper. Tagged a vintage YSL 38. The fabric does have stretch so should fit a variety of sizes, stretching slightly  to accommodate curves and draping well on smaller frames.

Bust: no true side seams

Seam at the top of waist gathers: 13-14.5" flat across from side seam to side seam

1970s Victor Costa Turquoise Wash & Wear Jersey Tank Dress

I Have A Question: 1970s Victor Costa Turquoise Wash & Wear Jersey Tank Dress

Victor Costa was particularly great at taking the popular designs of the day and making versions that were more affordable but still a good quality. This particular dress is a great example of his work during the 1970s. It is made from a solid turquoise colored jersey that drapes well and moves with you. It has long, lean lines and a fantastic, easy to wear shape. The front and back are scooped like a traditional tank top with skinny little straps. It has a sleek, fitted shape through to the waist and then the skirt flares out gently as it nears the hem. Between the fabric and the slight stretch of the jersey, you really get a tremendous easy feeling dress that still has impact. Added bonus for it being wash and wear. Excellent condition

Unlined and slips on to wear with no closures. The fabric has some stretch. The color in person is completely even and a touch better and brighter turquoise then how it photoed. The fabric has stretch and should fit a variety pf sizes

1980s Isabel Allard Paris Plunge Dress w Velvet and Huge Tassel Detail

I Have A Question: 1980s Isabel Allard Paris Plunge Dress w Velvet and Huge Tassel Detail

This is a stunning dress by the French designer Isabelle Allard. It has a real French feel about it and effortlessly combines the different elements used in its construction. The shoulder are padded and string and the front plunges right to where the high waistline is set. The sleeves are set from the shoulder to the top if that waistline as well and then taper in as they near the wrist. The skirt is the same light wool jersey that the top is made out of. In between there is a formed and fitted banding of black velvet, braiding, beads and tassels. Just under the plunge sit two bands of velvet separated by rows of dangling, glossy black beads set along strips of black braiding. The hips are then circled with a panel of black velvet that is detailed in the same way around its edges, This is cut to end in points that circle around the entire dress. At each highest point and at each lowest a silk tassel is set to give the dress even more movement. It is even better on the body and much better in person. Excellent condition

The skirt has an inner black silk lining and the top is unlined. Padding in each shoulder and closes with a back zipper. Tagged a size 38 but seems to be cut generously

Sleeves: 22"
Shoulders: approx 16" to ends of padding that are set to extend slightly beyond the natural shoulder
Bust: no true side seam
Waist: to 14" flat across from side seam to side seam
Hips: to 19" flat across from side seam to side seam
Bodice: 10" from top of bodice to top waist seam, then 5" for the banding

I Have A Question: 1990s Christian Dior Chic Black Jacket & Skirt Suit w Waist Detailing

This is a wonderful little black suit by the Dior label that still feels perfectly on point for a modern girl. The skirt is cut in a sleek pencil shape that skims over the hips in a simple line, landing at around the knee. The jacket is beautifully constructed and is cut to fit and flatter the body. The shoulders have light padding and the waist is cut to curve inwards for shape. The sleeves are left long and simple. I love the rounded and notched collar and the little pocket that sits at the top of one side. The waist portion of the jacket is detailed all the way around with three rows of gathered fabric set between top stitched rows to break the pattern. This gives the suit a subtle but interesting detailing that still feels appropriate no natter what the level of work situation. The buttons on the suit are especially lovely and I took a close up of them. Excellent condition

Both pieces are fully lined in a black silk satin. The jacket buttons to close and the skirt closes with a hidden set zipper. Tagged a US8

1969-1973 JG Couture for Malcolm Starr Metallic Organza Detailed Jumpsuit

I Have A Question: 1969-1973 JG Couture for Malcolm Starr Metallic Organza Detailed Jumpsuit

The J.G. Couture was added as a division of Malcolm Starr in 1969 and was produced until 1973 so we know the window from when this jumpsuit would be from.

The jumpsuit is gorgeous and when combined with the gold metallic threads that run from top to bottom and create those little gold dots, it is made even better. The exterior layer is an organza that has a secondary print running over it and under the gold dots. I love the richness of the earthy tones mixed with the gold. The gold is further set off by the braiding that runs down the front, around the waist and highlight each arm where the sleeves are set in. The braiding also circles each cuff. As you get closer you realize that there are flat gold metal discs set in and running along all of the braiding. Each is engraved with a circular pattern to pick up the dots in the fabric even more. There are also little gold dome details and rhinestones. The sleeves are long and slim and the neck is simple and scooped. The pants are very full and flares out in a gentle swoop of fabric as they falls to the floor. At first glance it looks like full length dress but they are indeed pants. It is a beautiful and dramatic piece. Excellent condition.

Fully lined in a hand set taupe silk rayon. It closes with a back painted metal zipper. Each leg is a full 54" around the bottom hem. Hand finished throughout and there is a good 2.5" turned up under the hem of each leg if you meed more length

Shoulders: 15"

I Have a Question

1967 Unlabeled Geoffrey Beene Silk Pink & Taupe Metallic Brocade Dress

I Have A Question: 1967 Unlabeled Geoffrey Beene Silk Pink & Taupe Metallic Brocade Dress

As soon as I set my eyes on this dress I knew I had seen it before and after some extensive hunting I found the photo that it had triggered a memory of. A version of this dress was photoed by Irving Penn for the September issue of Vogue in 1967. That dress was by Geoffrey Beene but in a different color way and a version with a higher neckline. They are otherwise identical and the fabric is as good in this color as it is in that shot. Geoffrey Beene was one of the great American fashion designers and he was recognized for both his artistic and technical skills. He launched his label in 1963 and a piece from his very first collection landed the cover of Vogue. This is a wonderful and very early example of his work.

I barely feel the need to describe this dress to you as Vogue description is utter perfection. The text in the editorial states the dress as being a "new cloth of glow... a printed matelasse with clear lacquer colors webbed with silver threads for the beautiful evening proportion of a small covered top and the widest sweep of skirt." Matelasse is French for 'quilted' or 'cushioned' and in usage with fabric, refers to quilted textiles. It is meant to mimic the style of hand-stitched Marseilles type quilts made in France. This gives the dress a slight dimensional quality. The silver thread runs over the fabric for the slightest glint of a metallic feel. The upper bodice is meant to be fitted and the sleeves are long and slim. The skirt sweeps out with the volume created by the fabric choice that helps to hold the shape and by the way it is set in around the waist. Like the reference photo, this version also has pockets hidden along each hip. It is absolutely wonderful in person and I think even better then how it photoed. I am so pleased to have found documentation of this rare and wonderful piece of fashion history. Excellent condition

Fully lined in a silk taffeta in a pale peach color It closes with a back, painted metal zipper. Hand finished throughout. There is a good 4.5" of fabric turned up at the hem if you need more length and 2/5" turned up under each sleeve. Pockets along the seam on the hip

I Have A Question: 1970s Miss Dior Floral Printed Nylon Jersey Halter Neck Dress

This is a fabulous little dress from the Miss Dior label. It is made out of printed nylon jersey makes it very easy to wear and care for. This is a dress that can go from beach to cocktails to dancing. The fabric reminds me a bit of high end swimsuit fabric but is lighter. It will wear amazingly and you can literally roll it in a ball in your suitcase and wear it with a quick steam as soon as you arrive to where you are going. The front is cut with a scooped halter bodice with straps that curve up and behind your neck. The bodice is defined and made from two layers of the same fabric for a little support and to make it opaque. This sits above a high set waistline. The skirt sweeps out from there in a gentle A-line. It's fabulous and it's Miss Dior. Excellent condition.

The bodice is a double layer of the same nylon jersey and the skirt is unlined. Slips on and buttons to close at the back of the halter neck. The fabric does have stretch it will fit from a 0-2 maybe up to a smaller busted 6

I Have a Question

1980s Oscar de la Renta Copper & Metallic Fused Velvet & Silk Chiffon Dress

I Have A Question: 1980s Oscar de la Renta Copper & Metallic Fused Velvet & Silk Chiffon Dress

This dress beautifully combines several textures to work together wonderfully. It also wonderfully showcases the genius of Mr. de la Renta's work and attention to detail. The dress has a beautiful elegance to it and is quite striking. This sense of refinement is a constant in Oscar's work and I particularly love the earlier examples of it. You can see how many of the elements you see here carried through his entire career and body of work.

The dress is made from a sheer black silk chiffon with a built in under dress done in a light, fine silk chiffon. This gives it a touch of sheerness and allows the design that runs over the chiffon to have more if an impact. That pattern is made from a combination of two velvet's fused to the underlying silk chiffon. One is a coppery brown with no metallic sheen to it and the other a full on metallic velvet that gives the entire dress its subtle glint. Each sleeve is left unlined for a touch more transparency. These are both full and poufed above their cuffs and add a touch of high drama. The bodice is cut in a low V at the front and I love the little high cap detailing at the top of each shoulder. The skirt falls to the floor and comes in more as it nears the hem for a lean silhouette. A high slot runs up the center front for a flash of leg and ease to walk in it. It is a beautiful example of his work during this time period. Excellent condition.

Fully lined with an inner built in bodice made of a nude and black silk chiffon and a black chiffon through the skirt. The sleeves are left unlined. The inner dress lining closes at the back with a hand set, painted metal zipper. The outer fabric snaps and hooks over that to conceal the zipper. Each cuff closes with a hidden set snap. Tiny padding in each shoulder  - just enough to support that little cap. A long slit up the front that is 21" up from the hem. Hand finished throughout. I Have a Question

1980s Nina Ricci Liquid Gold Stretch Lame Jersey Dance Dress

I Have A Question: 1980s Nina Ricci Liquid Gold Stretch Lame Jersey Dance Dress

This is an incredible Nina Ricco Haute Boutique dress that was most likely made to order on request. It is certainly in synch with the dance craze of that time period. It almost has that exact cut of a dance  or ballet-inspired fit and flare dress but with a more sophisticated twist. The dress is made out of a stretch lame jersey that molds to the body like a glove. The bodice is scooped with a shaped neckline and seaming to highlight the bust. It clings to the bodice and glides over the rib cage and waist. Then at the hips, the fabric suddenly is given volume. The way that this is created is genius. There are no seams and yet as if by magic, soft curving 'pleats' seem to suddenly appear. The skirt has quite a bit of fabric in it to move as you do and create volume. The fabric seems to be coated in the gold and the effect is of molded liquid poured over the body until the skirt flares out. It is quite wonderful. Excellent condition with one tiny note below.

Unlined and slips on to wear with no closures. Tagged a vintage 36 but the fabric does have some stretch. The measurements below are the comfortable range lying flat. This should fit from about a 0-2 - smaller sided 6. Very minor rubbing of the fabric to the edges of the neckline and arms but the base is black an the gold on top give it a bit of an antiqued feel so it looks perfectly fine on.

Bust: 14-16" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: 12-14" flat across from side seam to side seam
Hips: 17-21" flat across from side seam to side seam
Length: 57" from top of shoulder to hem

Modern Sizing Equivalent: XS-SML
