• EightThis two piece set dates in and around to the Fall 1987 Christian Dior collection.
• It was made under the creative direction of Marc Bohan.
• When researching we found very similar bead work used on a piece from the Fall 1987 Haute Couture collection. The date for this set is based on that bead work and that pieces often trickled down into ready-to-wear collections with similar details.
• At first glance it looks like this is a full dress but it is actually two pieces. The top is a shaped and boned strapless corset and it has a matching textured silk black skirt. I love the versatility that having the two separate pieces gives you.
• The skirt made out of a black heavily textured silk with built-in under skirts for added volume in shape and the corset is made out of of a deep yellow silk with hand beading.
• The bodice is strapless and is meant to be more fitted with a true corset feel. Inside it is cupped and has extensive inner boning so that it sits perfectly in place around you.
• I love how it is shaped over the body to emphasize the bust and then it nips in the waist. The deep curve at the top of the neck line and the way that long tassel hangs down the front is all done to draw the eye in and add to the illusion of a smaller waist. Under the waist it curves out over the top of the hips.
• The skirt is its own separate piece. The waist is banded and then the silk expands outwards from there. It is very full by the time it reaches the bottom hem. This gives it a soft and easy movement around you as you move. 
• The skirt is made out of a layer of highly textured black silk and then underneath that is a layer of a black net with stiffening built in around he inner hem. An innermost silk lining sits between that middle layer and your skin. Floating the layers over each other in this manner helps it to retain volume and shape around you.
• The perfect finishing touch is the extensive silk cord, hand cut velvet applique and hand beading done on the corset. The pattern follows the exaggerated peak on the front bodice and then wraps all the way around you to hook into place. Strands of various size beads have been hand strung and placed all the way around the top edge. They are glossy black faceted beads and are in a variety of shapes and sizes.
• It is just outstanding in person and beautifully constructed.
• The skirt is lined in a black net and black silk as described above. The corset is lined in a matching yellow silk and has hidden interior light boning. It closes with a row of lingerie hooks at the back and the skirt buttons to close at the waist with a zipper under that. I see a tiny mark on the front bodice which is hidden under the dangling beads over it for the most part. There is.a small repair/flaw along the very edge at the bottom. There is a tiny bit of grubbiness here and there on the corset on the inside and the outside. Please see the photos after the label shot.

• The twin of this incredible dress walked the runway for Look 31 for the Fall 2010 collection.
• It was made under the creative direction of John Galliano.
• Vogue's review stated that Galliano's Fall ready-to-wear for Dior was "Equestrian-themed, a follow-on from the daywear strand of the acclaimed Couture show in January. This was to be a brisk albeit slightly perfunctory trot around the circuit of Galliano's longtime favourite 18th century."
• In the book Dior:Catwalk they noted that Galliano had baptized the collection "The Seduction of the Libertine". The collection notes read "Riding in from the hunt that began at the Haute Couture, Dior discovers intrigue and inspiration in gallant riding habits as it goes from the stables to the seductive style and verse of those infamous romantics, the 18th century Libertines"... "This season Dior takes up the heroic spirit of the French romanticism." said Galliano.
• This dress is completely cut on the bias and this gives it incredible curves once it is on an actual body. It almost feels like you are wearing nothing because of the soft sand colour and the lightness of the silk chiffon.
• The bodice crosses over itself and there is a silk chiffon ruffle that follows the neckline. This wraps around you and buttons behind the neck. Panels extend out from the top that are cut wide and edged in a ruffle. By tying those around the front of the neck you get that beautiful ruffle falling down the front as seen here and on the runway.
• The bodice skims to a slightly more generously cut waist. If you wanted to add shape you can cinch it in further by belting it.
• At the back it dips low to leave a bare expanse of skin to show.
• The top layer of the skirt wraps over itself as it attaches in around the waist and there is a substantial amount of silk used for the skirt to give it its extensive draping. Under that is a second inner silk layer in the same colour. A slit runs up the side of the inner layer so when you walk you see bare leg. 
• The entire bottom of the skirt has round cut outs in various sizes that circle all the way around the lower skirt. Each of the cut outs are finished with a heavily applied embroidered edge done in a matching coloured thread. This gives the bottom of the dress extraordinary texture and detail.
• This is an incredible and rare documented runway piece.
• The dress is fully lined in a second layer of the same silk chiffon. A row of his signature matching silk covered buttons and loops runs down the side to close the dress. It appears to have been worn very little if at all.

• The twin of this dress walked the runway for the Spring 1977 Dior show.
• It was made under the creative direction of Marc Bohan.
• I have had several other dresses from this collection and it is a personal favourite season in Dior's history.
• I am very happy to have photo references so you can see how fantastic this dress sits on the body and how it can also be worn belted for added shape.
• The dress is made out of a feather light silk chiffon and comes with its original matching ivory silk slip that can be worn underneath.
• I shot the dress with the shoulders up because the slip underneath has a little straps. On the runway it was shown off the shoulder and I love that you have the option of wearing it either way.
• It has a red and two different blue tone abstract stripe print that runs over the entire dress. You can see how he has manipulated the directions of the stripe to highlight the detailing and shape of the dress.
• Matching ties run through the neckline and this is what allows you to bring the neckline in or to wear it more loos and off of the shoulder. Two more ties close the front under that.
• The sleeves are fantastic. They are very wide where they come out from the body of the dress and then are gathered in at the wrist. They each have a little tie bow and elastic around the cuff with a ruffled finish.
• The body of the dress is very full and open and should fit just about any size.
• I love the inset at the front and how it has just the perfect amount of detail and contrast with the stripes going the other way.
• Around the hem is a wide band that also has the stripes placed the other way to the rest of the dress.
• At the back it falls with a more caped feel if you choose to wear it without a belt. If you do add a belt, you can bring the length up as much as you wish. The styling possibilities are endless.
• The outer dress is unlined and it comes with its matching inner slip. You could switch the switch out for another colour to get a different feel. The dress slips over the head to wear and then ties at the front as described above. The inner slip zips to close at the side. I see some minor pulls in the silk here and there. Please see the photo after the label shot. It is an extraordinary dress from this time period. The dress should fit pretty much any frame and you could always wear a different sized slip underneath if you need more room. Hand finishes throughout.

• This gorgeous Christian Dior dress is from Fall 2018.
  
• It was made under the creative direction of Maria Grazia Chiuri.
• In Vogues' interview with Maria she said of the house that "We have to maintain our heritage, but at the same time, transform it into something that's very easy to wear - comfortable to." 
• The twin of this one was seen on various celebrities and socialites and I love that this shows you how fantastic it is once on the body.
• The dress is made out of a feather light silver-grey netting that has a touch of a blue undertone to it. This is mixed with bands of applied lace in a matching colour.
• The bodice of the dress is meant to be more fitted around you but it does not have any inner corset so it is still soft and easy on the body. Instead, it comes with a matching silk slip that allows the dress to be worn since the net and lace combination is transparent.
• The sleeves sit to just pass the elbow and the shoulders are soft. It has a definite. nod to the classic Dior New Look silhouette.
• The waist is nipped in and I love how the scallop edged lace highlights the various parts of the dress as it falls over the body.
• The skirt is cut to be very full. It falls from the nipped in waist and then expands outwards from there. It is set in around the waist and wide inverted flat pleats and these open out substantially as they near the hem.
• This gives the dress a soft and easy movement around you as you move. If you lay the skirt of flat it is just short of being a true circle skirt by the time it reaches to hem.
• Under the top layer of a skirt, there are two additional layers of netting and then all of the dress sits over the separate opaque silk slip that comes with the dress. 
• There is a ton of fabric in a skirt. It is very light in weight so when you stand still it falls with just a slight volume but when you move it really moves around you beautifully.
• It is just outstanding in person and beautifully constructed.
• The dress is unlined with the matching slip it came with acting as the lining. The dress closes with a hidden set back zipper and the slip closes with a hidden side zipper. The dress came with its original Dior hang tag was never worn.

• The twin of this dress walked the runway for the Spring 1988 show.
• It was made under the creative direction of Marc Bohan for Christian Dior. 
• The evening portion of the collection focused on short dresses that had a corseted waist and bust with wrapping techniques that gave the feel of a sarong. The dress is a wonderful example of the feel he was after and it is fantastic.
• We found a teeny slice of a photo of it on the runway and even though the photo shows the model on an angle it does give you an idea of how wonderful this will be on the body.
• This would have been made completely by hand in the Paris atelier.
• The fabric is a black silk organza that has been gathered so it has a slight 3D puffed effect. This creates an incredible texture over the dress.
• The fabric is light in weight and despite the elaborate construction of the dress is not at all heavy once it is on.
• Inside the dress has a full proper corset with boning and built in cups to give support . A wide grosgrain ribbon hooks in place around the inner waist.
• All of the seams are finished by hand and its construction is a nod to the early days of couture.
• The bodice is cut with a curving sweetheart neckline and it is meant to hug the body. It is elaborately gathered and fitted around the bust with all of the gathered folds coming in to the seams that run over the bodice.
• It nips in at the waist and there is a large and elaborate bow that sits at the base of an angle seam coming from the bust. I love how this is set to curve around the hip to the back.
• The addition of the bow adds to the hourglass feel the dress has.
• The skirt curves down and comes back in and under the front panel to give it a more wrapped sarong feel.
• The dress is fully lined in a black silk and closes with a hand set side zipper. The interior of the bodice is boned and cupped for support. The inner corset closes with its own zipper and a wide band at the interior waist hooks to close. There is a tiniest bit of lightening to some of the edges on the fabric. This is a natural aging of this type of fabric and I do not consider it to be a true flaw but it is mentioned for accuracy. It otherwise appears to have been worn very little if at all.

• On the runway it was shown in this colour and as a red version. The red version was also used in the ad campaign that season.
• The dress is made from a gathered velvet that has been gathered like that by hand. It gives it an amazing texture.
• The colour is a beautiful deep purple that in certain lights changes to have a touch of a blue undertone. 
• The dress is strapless with built in structure to help hold it in place once one the body. The back of the bodice has elastic so the dress is easy to fit. It curves down and past the waist with no seam to break the eye. From there it curves back out and over the hips in a sleek pencil silhouette.
• The dress closes with a zipper off set to follow a seam at the back. The inner bodice area is lined in a blue silk and the rest of the dress is unlined. An inner waist stay hooks to close. You can clearly see the hand stitching on the back of the fabric done to create the pattern on the velvet.

• The dress is from the Fall 1984 Givenchy Haute Couture collection.
• It was made under the creative direction of Hubert de Givenchy
  
• The dress would have been completely made by hand in the Paris atelier.
• This is the actual sample dress that walked the runway that day.
• I love that the reference photos from the runway lets you see how perfectly this will fit once on the body. Having a piece of true Couture is always extra special and the fact that this is the runway sample makes it that much more so. It is a true piece of fashion history.
• The skirt of the combines a beautiful black silk velvet and black silk cut out beaded overlay while the bodice is made from a very high quality soft blue coloured silk.
• The dress is strapless and inside is an attached inner corset. The inner corset is boned and structured to hold the dress perfectly in place around you.
• The silk is set over the inner corset so that it softly drapes around you. A panel wraps around the upper bodice meeting at the front where it appears to tie. Underneath that is where it closes and this tie detail cleverly hides a hidden handset zipper.
• It snaps into place over the zipper and there are more snaps set along part of the waistline. It is extremely elaborate in the way it closes and this is the kind of closure and attention to detail that you see in true Couture pieces.
• It nips in at the waist and then curves back out over the hips and falls to the floor widening out as it nears the hem.
• The skirt has a black silk velvet base with an entire second layer attached over that. This gives you this incredible depth and texture to the layers.
• The top black silk portion is a hand cut out floral design that has all of the edges finished with a black stitched edging.
• The flowers are set to overlap each other over the entire skirt. The open cut outs between the flowers leave open areas that you see the underlying velvet through. At the centre of each flower is a faceted black jet bead that adds a bit of a sparkle to the dress. 
• This is an incredible piece of history from this time period under the direction of the original Hubert de Givenchy.
• The inner velvet acts as the lining and then the bodice is lined in a matching blue silk. Inside the bodice is a handmade built-in boned inner corset. Two zippers close the dress. There is one hidden at the front of the bodice as described above and a second one sits on the side of the skirt. Two inner waist stays hook to close. The bodice snaps into place over the zipper and partially around the waist of the skirt. The very final row of flowers at the hem have no beads. The hem has a simple surged finish. This is not unusual to see in runway sample pieces. The dress has its original handwritten sample Couture tag present.

• This is a stunning and rare dress designed by Coty Award winning, Haitian born designer, Fabrice Simon. He was one of the preeminent black designers during this time period and pieces by him are very hard to find.
• It is the very near twin of the piece worn by Cornelia Guest in the photo that we have added here.
• His clothes were worn by some of the most famous names of the time and his work was seen on women like Kathleen Turner, Natalie Cole and Whitney Houston, who wore one of his dresses to the 1988 Grammy's. The top supermodels of the time like Iman, Beverly Johnson, Christie Brinkley and Jerry Hall were also all fans of his work. 
• The dress is meant to be worn off the shoulder and the entire top of the neckline features an elaborate finish made out of a two layers of a black silk. Each layer is attached down its middle and then sat side-by-side. The edges are all angled and pointed. This creates a gorgeous volume around your shoulders that balances out the volume of the lower skirts.
• The body of the dress is a black silk that is covered in black tube beads. The beads run over the dress in an interesting little panel with big square cut, rhinestones and little beads interspersed throughout for a little added glitz.
• The waist comes in and then the dress curves back out over the hips. It is fitted to past the hips with a border of the black beading that runs around where the skirt is attached. A ruffle with the same detail and finish as the shoulder sits below that.
• The lower skirt is incredibly full. It is made out of a soft pink silk that flares out all around you and moves incredibly as you move. There is a built-in underskirt that is made out of multiple layers of a white net with a very inner layer of an ivory silk.
• An incredible piece that is a rare example of his work.
• The top of the dress is fully lined in a black silk and the skirt is finished as described above. It closes with a back zipper. There is light boning through the bust and elastic at the top of the shoulders. There are some very small areas where the bead work is missing and some grubbiness on the skirt. Please see the photos after the label shot.

All items are thoroughly checked over before shipping. Unless noted everything in our shop has been professionally cleaned. All sales are final. Overseas clients will be emailed to obtain agreement to our final sales policy before the order is shipped as per our return policy.
