• This exceptional dress is by Marc Bohan for Christian Dior and it is a wonderful example of his work during this time period.
• The floral print and style best matches the work that he was doing in and around Spring 1974.
• The dress is made from a silk organza that has a slight texture and has been done in the prettiest pink. Screened onto the silk is a soft pastel floral print that covers the entire dress.
• The neckline is set high and detailed with a wide six inch ruffled collar that follows the hide set neckline. It softly falls over the edges of the shoulders at the sides.
• That ruffle collar extends all the way around you and down the back to follow the deep and unexpected V there. I love this almost shocking expanse of bare skin in contrast to the more covered front. That combination of the extremely pretty pink and then that open cut out at the back feels very sexy when you turn around.
• The shoulders are soft under the ruffle and the sleeves extend down and narrow slightly in at the cuff where they button to close. The sleeves have no lining so you get a play on transparency through them that is very pretty.
• At the front the bodice skims over you to the waist. The waist is detailed with a band of the same pink silk chiffon. My dress form is fairly short through the upper body so the top blouses out a bit over top of that band. If you are longer through the body it would fall slightly less bloused to the waist.
• The skirt billows out from under that to the floor. It widens out beautifully as it nears the hem and extra fabric has been set along the centre of the back to give it added fullness, creating the perfect balance to the ruffles that surround the V above. It is absolutely stunning.
  
• The band around the waist adds shape but you could define the waist even more by adding a belt or sash to cinch it in as much as you want.
• Once on the body the entire dress has this stunning movement and yet feels minimalist and elegant. It walks this beautiful line between the femininity and prettiness of the fabric mixed with that added touch of sensuality with the bareness of the back.
• The dress is fully lined in silk organza and closes with a side set zipper. The band around the waist hooks to close over that. Each sleeve closes with a silk covered button and loop. • I love how the dress has a touch of Old Hollywood in its cut. The closer you get to it the more you see the incredible and elaborate amount of detail that has been put into the fabric.

• The elaborate design that covers the entire dress is done with a combination of glossy black beads in various sized mixed with black sequins. The design is heavier around the top the bodice, lightens in coverage as it goes over the hips, and then becomes dense and heavy again at the hem.

Small faceted beads follow other parts of the pattern and the same beads are place by hand over the straps. Tiny little seed beads are in the mix along with square pailettes and oval faceted beads on a much larger scale.

• The book Dior:Catwalk noted that Vogue proclaimed that season that "Any woman anywhere on earth would want to own these total feminine clothes".
• In the few photos that survive of pieces from this collection, it is interesting to note that he showed most of these long full length shift dresses under capes. A combination that would still work now if you wished.
• The dress would have been made entirely by hand in the Paris atelier. 
• It is made out of a jet black silk velvet that is extremely soft to the touch and has beautiful drape. This is the highest possible quality velvet. 
• The silhouette is simple and I love the nod to classic minimalism that the dress has. At the same time don't let it simplicity fool you. It is masterfully tailored.
• Black velvet straps that are a touch on the wider side curve up and over your shoulders. The front and back neckline have a gentle bit of a scoop. Just enough to take away the harshness a straight line would have.
• It skims over the bust and is cut more generously over the waist so that it falls in a perfect shift or column feel around you. If you wanted to add more shape you could easily add a belt or a fabric sash.
• It curves slightly out over the hips and then the skirt falls from there widening out a touch as it nears the hem. 
• The dress closes down one side with glossy black buttons and I love the deliberate contrast in texture that it has against the black velvet. That pop of gloss from the buttons is the perfect subtle detail against the inky texture of the velvet.
• The buttons close the dress down one side to just past the hip and then the rest of that seam is completely open all the way to the hem. This gives a flash of bare leg all the way up that one side when you move. It is almost startling to have that flash of bare skin against the column of black and I love this play between elegance and sexiness.

• This dress is the Ready-to-Wear version of the Haute Couture Dior dress that walked the Fall 2021 show for Look 32.
• It was made under the creative direction of Maria Grazia Chiuri.
• You can see the striking similarities to it from the similar metallic net fabric to the cut of the dress.
• This version was produced for the shops in limited quantities and only sold at the main Dior shops. 
• It is truly a beautiful piece and it might even make an amazing wedding dress for the bride looking for a non-traditional choice or as an alternative dress in a more extended wedding celebration. And of course it could also be worn to any event.
• The fabric on this dress is very unusual. A fine metallic gold thread is done in a grid cut out that creates a thatched pattern over the entire dress. This sits over a layer of a pale nude silk netting and then both of those sit over the inner layers of silk tulle and silk on the bodice. The top layer almost feels like the gold has been applied onto the underlying fabric. I have never seen a fabric like it.
• The skirt has multiple layers of tulle underneath the top metallic layer with an inner silk lining under them all. There is so much skirt fabric in the skirt and I did not use any extras under-skirts in the photos. All of the volume that you see is created by all of the existing layers of tulle and silk. If you wanted the skirt to be even fuller you could add something underneath and turn it into a fairy-tale cupcake dress.
• The bodice is meant to be fitted and the fabric is wrapped and gathered all the way around you. Inside there are padded cups that create a sweetheart neckline and light boning to hold the dress in place and give you support.
• Little half sleeves leave the shoulders bare and they wrap around your upper arms for a pretty feminine detail. Please refer to the runway reference folder to give you an idea of how this will look like once on. It is almost impossible to photo properly on a dress form with no arms.
• The waist is cinched and then the skirt poufs out below that to create all that gorgeous volume that you see.
• The dress is fully lined in silk and constructed as described above. It closes with a back hidden set zipper and an inner waist stay hooks to close. The front cups are padded and there is light boning in the inner bodice. Hand finishes. The colour is slightly more metallic in person. It looks to have been worn very little at all.

• EightThis two piece set dates in and around to the Fall 1987 Christian Dior collection.
• It was made under the creative direction of Marc Bohan.
• When researching we found very similar bead work used on a piece from the Fall 1987 Haute Couture collection. The date for this set is based on that bead work and that pieces often trickled down into ready-to-wear collections with similar details.
• At first glance it looks like this is a full dress but it is actually two pieces. The top is a shaped and boned strapless corset and it has a matching textured silk black skirt. I love the versatility that having the two separate pieces gives you.
• The skirt made out of a black heavily textured silk with built-in under skirts for added volume in shape and the corset is made out of of a deep yellow silk with hand beading.
• The bodice is strapless and is meant to be more fitted with a true corset feel. Inside it is cupped and has extensive inner boning so that it sits perfectly in place around you.
• I love how it is shaped over the body to emphasize the bust and then it nips in the waist. The deep curve at the top of the neck line and the way that long tassel hangs down the front is all done to draw the eye in and add to the illusion of a smaller waist. Under the waist it curves out over the top of the hips.
• The skirt is its own separate piece. The waist is banded and then the silk expands outwards from there. It is very full by the time it reaches the bottom hem. This gives it a soft and easy movement around you as you move. 
• The skirt is made out of a layer of highly textured black silk and then underneath that is a layer of a black net with stiffening built in around he inner hem. An innermost silk lining sits between that middle layer and your skin. Floating the layers over each other in this manner helps it to retain volume and shape around you.
• The perfect finishing touch is the extensive silk cord, hand cut velvet applique and hand beading done on the corset. The pattern follows the exaggerated peak on the front bodice and then wraps all the way around you to hook into place. Strands of various size beads have been hand strung and placed all the way around the top edge. They are glossy black faceted beads and are in a variety of shapes and sizes.
• It is just outstanding in person and beautifully constructed.
• The skirt is lined in a black net and black silk as described above. The corset is lined in a matching yellow silk and has hidden interior light boning. It closes with a row of lingerie hooks at the back and the skirt buttons to close at the waist with a zipper under that. I see a tiny mark on the front bodice which is hidden under the dangling beads over it for the most part. There is.a small repair/flaw along the very edge at the bottom. There is a tiny bit of grubbiness here and there on the corset on the inside and the outside. Please see the photos after the label shot.

• This gorgeous Thea Porter dress dates to the early-mid 1970s.
• It was made under the creative direction of Thea Porter.
• It feels very much like a variation on her iconic Faye dress in its lines.
• The Faye dress was named after Faye Dunaway and Thea made these in various fabrications starting in 1968. These were one of her most iconic designs. Given her extremely limited run on certain pieces it could be one of only a couple that exist. It is truly a very special piece.
• The dress combines a hand dyed silk chiffon with metallic gold infused chiffon and sequin medallions that have been handed applied.
• The neckline comes down at the front and there is a modesty panel that has been added that matches the fabric of the sleeves. If you wanted a more bare look all the way to the waist you could easily have this removed and it would dramatically change the feel of the dress.
• Each shoulder has a light padding tacked inside that holds the shape across the top. If you wanted a softer feel you could easily remove them.
• Each sleeve is gathered into the top of the shoulder and then they are cut to be extremely wide and full, flaring out to their ends. The silk of the sleeves match the modesty panel at the front. Both areas are made out of a deeper red chiffon that has a pattern running through it and then over that pattern are bands of gold metallic stripes worked through the chiffon.
• The waist is seamed for some added shape and if you wish to cinch it in even more you could add a belt.
• Under that the dress flares out over the hips and becomes beautifully wide by the time it reaches the hem. All of the silk of the skirt is cut on the bias. The top pink silk layer sits over an inner red chiffon layer that is also cut on the bias. The layering of the two colours is very pretty and creates a beautiful effect and depth of colour.
• The pattern on the top layer of the silk is fantastic. It has a tie dye feel to it that I absolutely love.
• The perfect final detail are the three medallions that are hand-sewn in a row down one side of the bodice. Each one is hand cut and embroidered around their edges. Inside the have hand finished patterns done with embroidery, small tube beads and sequins.
• This is an exceptional and rare example of her work. 
• The body of the dress is fully lined in a pink chiffon through the bodice and red chiffon through the skirt. The sleeves are unlined. It closes with a back zipper. Light padding tacked into each shoulder. I see minor fading near the hem, a faint mark and a small tear also near the hem. These are a minor and mentioned for accuracy. There is so much fabric in the skirt you would never notice them once on. Please see the photos after the label shot.

• This dress is from the Fall 1979 Haute Couture Yves Saint Laurent collection.
• It was made under the creative direction Yves Saint Laurent.
• The 1979 collection was an a homage to Picasso and Diaghilev. Yves had been to an exhibit on Picasso costume and set designs for Diaghilev's ballet Russes. At the time he told French Vogue that he had been on a different path entirely for the collection but then he saw the exhibition and "my collection took on the structure of a ballet. I embroidered on Picasso, on a slightly soft cubism, on harlequin, the Blue Period, the Pink. It's best when in inspiration comes! You no longer have any doubt, you get on with it, you feel an immense joy!"
• You can see that inspiration of the harlequin especially on the pattern of this dress. We found several runway examples where he used the same pattern and added those here. This pattern was a significant part of the collection.
• I snapped the sketch that is closest to this piece from my YSL folio that contains all the drawings from the collection and some shots to show that he used this particular print in several colours including the blue of this dress. 
• The dress would have been made completely by hand in the Paris atelier.
• It is made out of a beautiful silk that is scarf weight so is very light and easy to wear. It has a secondary pattern within the weave in the same blue and then it is printed with that black design leaving the blue to show between. 
• The collar is neat and done in the same silk. The silk of the bodice is gathered in around it for a added detailing and it closes at the back of the neck above a small keyhole. 
• The shoulders are soft and the top of each sleeve gathers into the shoulder. They narrow down to cuffed wrists that ends in a ruffle made of the same silk.
• The cut through the body is loose and easy and it has the slightest bit of narrowing inwards as it nears the hem. 
• The more generous cut through the body makes it easy to wear. You have the option of wearing it loose or adding a belt to cinch it in and add shape around the waist. I photoed it both of those ways with an added black rope belt. 
• The perfect finishing touch are the little slits on either side of the skirt. These allow for movement when you move and gives you ease of walking plus a little bit of extra leg to show.
• This is a superb piece of Couture and is an early example of his work.
• The dress is unlined and slips over the head to wear with a single button at the back of the neck above a keyhole. Each cuff buttons to close. It is entirely made by hand. The belt is not original to the dress but will be included. The appropriate Haute Couture label is present.
• There is no size tag present because it is true Couture. Please go by the measurements listed below.
• Excellent condition

Sleeves: 23.5" and they are 15" around the upper arm. The neck is 13" around. The cuffs are 6" around where the button is presently but could be opened and the button moved to get 7".
Slightly inset shoulders: 14"
Bust: to 19.5" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: to 18.5" flat across from side seam to side seam
Hips: to 19" flat across from side seam to side seam
Total length: 36.5" from neck to hem. Each side slit is 9" from the hem up
