This fabulous Halston trench coat is made of a classic light khaki and has amazing lines. It gives you that instant feel of the 1970s but still manages to stay fresh and current in feel. Caftans are always an amazing vintage staple but to find one by the Yuki brand is a treat. It is one of the more rare labels to find and I love his work. One of his trademarks was minimal seaming and this caftan shows that with just one central seam that runs down the front and the back and then a seam across the top of each shoulder. It is shockingly sexy despite its full cut because of the draping. The neckline is high and you are completely covered and yet the draping does a magnificent job of suggesting the figure underneath. All while hiding anything you wish to hide. The sleeves are extremely full and a part of the sides of the caftan and each sleeve narrows as they reach the wrist. It is gathered primarily down the center with the sides draping and cocooning down beautifully. The print is bamboo and done ins shades of grey. The chiffon jersey used drapes and moves beautifully and the back is slightly trained. The matching turban uses that same printed chiffon mixed with hand draped panels of a grey stretch stain. Wear them together for a string statement feel or as separates.  Excellent condition

Fully lined in a silver satin and the sleeves are left unlined. It closes with painted metal zipper on the inner lining and a hook & eye at the neck on the outer. The hat is lined in a silver satin. This is a museum quality, absolutely beautiful, 1970s silk chiffon gown that is both iconic and instantly recognizable as a Hanae Mori. The best of her peices are little works of art and this one is no exception. This is everything you look for in a Hanae Mori piece. It has one of her spectacular and custom designed prints on a feather light silk chiffon with an inner silk twill base. The print is a serene scene of mountains and boughs with huge flowers trailing across the surface for impactful pops of color.. The cut has her signature draped and flowing feel to it that collectors crave when they look for the best of Hanae's pieces. This is couture on the highest level with everything about the piece done to work and sync with the rest. The printed inner dress is made of a scarf weight silk twill and is a simple sheath dress with a easy tubular cut that widens slightly as it reaches the hem. Over this a floating caftan of printed chiffon. Huge cape-like "sleeves" trail from the neckline and wrap around to the back with each side going right to the floor and buttoning at the top of the back with fabric covered buttons. It even has its original silk chiffon sash that can be used to cinch the waist, be worn around the neck or even used as a head covering. It is an amazing find and very beautiful. Excellent, museum quality condition

The inner silk dress is fully lined in a pink silk and closes with a back painted metal zipper. The silk layer over this closes over the zipper with her signature teeny tiny snaps. The sleeve overlay closes at the top back with fabric covered buttons. Hand finishes.

This is a superb and early example of the brilliant Marimekko textiles that were made into simple clothing that went with the Marimekko lifestyle brand. The Marimekko company was founded in 1951 by Armi and Viljo Ratia and they quickly became known for making pieces of boldly printed fabric. The label on this dress dates it to the late 1960s and it is very unusual and striking in its cut. It is cut slim through the shoulders and then expands with a massive amount of volume from there. The sleeves mimic this with a narrow shoulder and then end in a wide cut sleeve. Both the hem of the dress and the sleeves are cut in gentle curves with the front portions of each significantly shorter then the back. The effect if these giant curves against the sharp angular print is genius. It is an amazing piece of fashion history. Excellent condition

This is a very pretty red-coral silk dress by the Italian designer Alberto Fabiani. His name is best known for the collaboration with his wife Simonetta, whom with for three years they ran the Simonetta et Fabiani label from 1962-1965/66. Both before and after that until her retired in the early 1970s he designed solely under his own label. This dress is from the latter part of his career and is quite wonderful. It is made of a fine, light silk done in a brilliant coral red. It has a secondary silk satin line worked through the fabric so it has a touch of subtle sheen. It is cut to slip over the head and be loose and easy ont he body above and below the defined waist. There is a little panel of silk that runs around the hip for an extra touch of flounce and a long tie attached at the neck. I have pout this on the mannequin with the slit that runs form neck to waist at the front but you could easily wear this turned around the other way so the opening and tie are at the back. I lvoe the floral print that accents the hem and hip. It feels very Italian movie star - some thing that Sophia Loren would have strolled around the city in. Excellent condition

The skirt is lined in a red tissue silk and the top unlined. It closes with a painted metal side zipper and an inner waist stay that hooks to close. The panel over the hips has tiny snaps so it closes over the zipper.

Sybil Connolly pieces are very rare things to find and this particular coat is a treasure. Connolly was known for creating haute couture from Irish textiles, particularly finely pleated linen, but she also worked with textiles like this, a combination of mohair and Irish wool, for her outerwear. She her first major show in 1953 and launched her couture label in 1957. Elizabeth Taylor and Jaqueline Kennedy were clients and her brand was highly sought after. The coat is such a remarkable color with its mix of green hues and subtle pops of blue worked through the yarn. It is all crossed woven and has an almost exaggerated herringbone pattern to it. I can't help but think you will be happy on even the most miserable of winter days in this glorious color - how could you not be? The mohair has been combine with a wool yarn I believe it is not excessively long haired like some mohair's are. It is very soft and has a nice weight that makes it easy to move in. It is cut to swing out through the body with simple full length sleeves. Really a fantastic coat and highly collectible. Excellent condition

I am obsessed with the huge bow that sits at the neck of this early Oscar piece. It is the kind of dramatic finish that his earlier pieces had and that the later ones built upon. The fabric used is a mix of a light textured silk organza - which makes it shockingly light - anchored by a fine silk brocade for the skirt which gives it structure and contrast. Through both of the silks, a fine gold lurex thread has been worked through to highlight the vibrant print and give the entire gown a subtle shimmer. The two patterns that runs over the surface of the dress is fantastic - green and purple create a soft and pretty pattern that is done in two sizes and designs  - one on the skirt and another on the top. The upper bodice is cut for pure drama with a billowing cut and balloon sleeves, all topped with that dramatic bow at the neck. The bow is actually made of long attached ties that allow you to styled it how you choose but personally I love it as a full huge bow. The skirt flows to the ground with yards of silk brocade and has some fullness to balance the volume of the top portion. Excellent condition

The dress is lined through the bodice in a cream silk, with the sleeves left unlined. The skirt is lined in a purple silk. The dress closes at the back with a painted metal zipper and hook and eye at the top collar. Each cuff closes with a silk covered button.

From the mid-nineties, this is an amazing example of Westwood's tailoring and precision in cut during this time period of her career. The pants are flat fronted and cut with a nod to a man's tailoring. The legs are wide and I love that she cuffed them using a wide cuff of the traditional matte silk satin that normally would run down the side of each leg. This little quirk of a detail that utilized a traditional element in an non-traditional way is a hallmark of her work. The jacket is also pure Westwood with a cut that gives both shape and definition of the lines. A rounded collar of the same matte silk satin used on the cuffs with a finish of inky black velvet at the top neck give it that tuxedo feel. Each sleeve is finished with her signature gold logo engraved buttons and two more sit at the front. It is in remarkable condition and still as relevant ans wearable as when it was made - perhaps even more so. Excellent condition.

The jacket is fully lined in a lingerie nude silk lining embossed with her logo. The pants are unlined but ribbon finished on the inner waist hem and hand finished at the inner cuff. Pockets sit on the hip of the jacket. The jacket buttons to close and the pants close with a hidden set zipper on one hip. Perhaps the very lightest of scuffing on the matte silk satin cuffs but nothing that detracts.

I love this leopard print Malcolm Starr caftan dress. The fabric choice gives it such a strong impact on the eye and the added texture gives it a "fur" feel (it is a light weight faux fur in reality). The cut is simple and easy to wear. It has wonderful long sleeves that widen out to a quite full flare as they near the wrist. The neckline is left high but becasue it has a front zipper you can wear it done right up to the neck or unzip as low as you dare. The skirt cascades to the ground in yards of fabric and has great movement. I love how the seams are all finished with a detailing of a black braided yarn that add to the sense of length and offset all that print. Hidden pockets along the front are the [erfect finish. This was designed when Youssef Rizkallah headed the company so would have been made between the years of 1969 and 1975. It feel fabulous when on and is surprisingly light and easy to wear. Excellent condition.

Fully lined in a black silk and closes with a front painted metal zipper that ends just around the hip area. One tiny area or rubbing on the back but it actually looks like a natural flaw of the fabric. It does not detract in any way. Because of the easy caftan cut it will fit a broader range of sizes.

Yves Saint Laurent has made a version of his famous "le Smoking" Tuxedo suit every season since the forst one walked the runway in 1966. This is a rare and early version of that iconic look and is a real find for the YSL collector. The cut is chic and simple and feels very feminine despite its gender bending origins. It is made of a fine black wool that is easy to wear and feel very comfortable on. The pants have a classic and simple cut with soft pleats at the waist line and the signature silk satin strip that runs down each leg. The jacket is cut to mimic a man's tuxedo with a single button that sits low at the front. I love how the opening of the jacket curves under and around the back rather then having a squared off finish. This gives it that subtle touch of femininity that YSL was after. Another button adorns each cuff and here the seam is also curved. The jacket curves past the hip and has a wonderful shape that balances the cut and length of the pants. A matted silk satin collar and ribbon edging at all the seams are the perfect finish. Excellent condition.

The jacket is lined in a fine back silk and the pants are unlined. The jacket buttons to close and the pants close with a front zipper and flat hook and eye at the waist. One button on each cuff. Pockets on each side of the jacket that are functional and pockets on the pants as well. The jacket is tagged a vintage YSL 34 and the pants a 44. Please check actual measurements

This is a very rare, museum quality example of Gustave Tassell, who was one of the great American Couturiers. Example of his work are extremely hard to come by and most are only found in museum collections. For those not familiar with his work, Tassell won a Coty Award in 1962, was worn by Jacqueline Kennedy and designed for the house of Norell when Normal Norell died. This piece predates his work for Norell and is from one of his earlier collections.

The dress and jacket are extraordinary in their cut and execution. The dress has that wonderful "New Look" feel to it with its full skirts and the absolutely beautiful fabric choice. A fine golden silk was used for both pieces and it has an almost metallic sheen to some parts. It reacts wonderfully in the light and the fabric has a sense of texture and depth. Once on the body the volume of the skirts is showcased and the lines become magical. I have styled it over a light crinoline so you can see just how full the skirt is. The skirt is a masterpiece of construction with a heavy silk interlining that gives it volume and shape. It is set into the waist with a series of soft pleats that really allow for fullness - you will get almost the same fullness that you see here even without a crinoline because of the way the fabric is set. The sleeveless bodice and is cut to skim over the body with a scooped front and back. Over this pops a darling little jacket with a full cut through the body and boxed cut. A belt with a flat bow is the perfect finish. It is a rare dress that is very beautiful and even beyond that, is a stunning example of a great American Couturier. Excellent condition

Both pieces are fully lined in a fine, high grade, hand set silk with the silk lining of the skirt being a heavier grade. It closes with a side painted metal zipper. Hand finished. The belt snaps into place and the jacket has no closures.

This fantastic car coat by Pierre Balmain is made out of a lightweight wool that has been dyed to a deep golden mustard color. It is made of a lightweight wool that is very comfortable to wear but still warm. The fabric feels like the same weight and thickness as a treasured vintage wool blanket. The cut is a fabulous example of the loose, yet sculptural styles of the fifties with lots of volume through the body. The collar is rounded and neat and each sleeve is finished with a turned up cuff with a notched detailing. They are cut wide and straight. The shoulders are rounded with no padding and the body of the coat beneath it is loose and easy. The silhouette of the coat gets wider as it nears the hem. At the back it is cut so that there is extra volume there. I love the top stitched detailing around the shoulder and there are pockets that sit on each hip. The buttons are the same shade of collars the coat and they are very oversized which adds a little boldness to the piece. It is very made and finished by hand and with ribbon edged seams inside. Excellent condition.

Unlined and it closes with hidden snaps set under the buttons down the front. Pockets on each hip. Hand finished and ribbon finished edges inside. The generous cut should fit a range of sizes

I have not found a Hannah Troy dress in ages and am so pleased to have such a fine example of her work in the shop. She designed clothes, which relied heavily on the designs coming out of the Italian couturiers, from the late 30s to the early 60s. This gorgeous little dress dates from the 1950s and has such pretty colors and pretty lines that you can't help but swoon at the sight of it. The top is a simple sleeveless affair with a scooped front and back. I love how the fabric is gathered all along and into the piper edge of the neckline. This tops a full skirt that has lots of fabric in it and could be worn over a crinoline if you wanted it even fuller. A double pipped fabric belt is secured at the waist to wrap and cinch it in. The colors are lovely, the cotton voile fabric of extremely good quality and the lines and cut are wonderful. Excellent condition

Fully lined with a a light green muslin thought the bodice and skirt. It closes with a back painted metal zipper. The belt is partially attached and snaps into place and ties. Note the dress was a little small on the mannequin and does completely close at the back zipper on the proper sized girl.

This wonderul black wool crepe Courreges dress can be worn on its own or styled in the manner of his signature look, with a top or turtleneck underneath. It is made from a light black wool crepe that moves well and is not heavy when on. The bodice is cut to have no sleeve and it is suspended from wide straps that curve around the shoulders. The neckline is squared off at both the front and the back. It is more fitted over the bodice there there is a row of big thick black buttons that run down the front for detailing. Each has a properly finished buttonhole behind it despite the fact that the buttons are not functional. I love when I see this level of detail in a piece as it shows the quality of the work and the attention that was paid to these small details. It is seamed at the waist and then the skirt skim over the hips. As it nears the hem the skirt opens up to a startling fullness - it is a full true circle skirt near the hem. This gives the bottom of the skirt soft rounded curves. When you twirl or move you soon discover the tremendous movement that this technique gives the skirt. The dress has really beautiful seaming and an impeccably construction. It is always hard to convey all the detail when shooting a black dress but when you see it in person I think you will be very pleased. Excellent condition.

This wonderful dress and graphic jacket set is a testament to the greatness of James Galanos who just recently passed away at the age of 92. Galanos was one of the great American Couturiers and his work stays relevant season after season. This set is exceptional and I think that when you see it on person you will be even more pleased. There is a texture and weight to the fabric and a sculptural quality to the line of both pieces that do not convey as well on camera. The fabric is a black wool that has an almost rough canvas feel to its finish. It has a decent weight to it that allows it to hold the lines Galanos intended. The dress is cut with strict lines that have an angular finish around the neckline, emphasized further by seaming in a thick thread. It curves in at the waist with vertical seaming and then the skirt flares out with an almost triangular shape. The jacket has a front inset of a silk in a graphic black and white design and buttons to close with big white buttons. The sleeves are remarkable with a inset pleat running down each that open just above the wrist. It is very chic and structured and impeccably made with lots of couture level, hand finished put into the construction. It is am amazing original Galanos piece that is extremely collectible and infinitely wearable. Excellent condition.

Kelly only designed for a 5 year time period but his designs still have an impact now. His early death at the age of 35 was a true loss and one has to wonder what greatness would have lay ahead of him had he had the chance to continue perfecting his craft. I love when I find his pieces and this coat is rather exceptional. He threw a leopard print into several of his collections and it became a bit of a signature. This coat is a fabulous piece whose print acts like a neutral in that you can pair it with pretty much anything and any color. It has that tremendous volume that you look for in a eighties piece and the fabric is like a soft t-shirt fabric blanket that has been quilted. This then slips on with no closures and tops absolutely anything you want to put underneath. The sleeves are cut extra long so that you can roll them and show off the black satin lining as I have done, or leave them long for more of a statement look. It is quite fabulous. Excellent condition

The graphic feel that the bold brown and white striping give this dress is amazing and the loose and easy cut make it incredibly comfortable to wear. It is constructed of a light, cotton-wool mix that has a soft, almost T-shirt feel to it. This unusual fabric choice gives it a casual, soft feel that the cut adds to. The neckline is softly scooped and cut wide across while the body of the dress is left loose and easy with a caftan feel to it. Long, slim sleeves and a slit side, balance the lines of the dress. I love the silver stud detail that circles the neckline, each cuff and all the way around the hem and up the side slit. This gives the dress it a subtle little edge that elevates the simplicity of the cut. Normally a horizontal stripe can be a tough to wear choice, but the graphic lines and loose cut make the stripes an important design element rather than a distraction. Excellent condition.

When you think of Ceil Chapman pieces you normally think of the fitted dress made famous by the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Deborah Kerr and many others. Chapmen designed for these big screen giants and her work centered primarily around evening and cocktail attire. This wonderful little piece is not a typical Ceil but I kind of love it even more as it demonstrates her range. Like the little metallic coat I have on the site (which btw looks fabulous paired with this dress) there was a definitive 60s influence later on in her career and she could design that mod little line with the best of them. The dress is a simple shift A-line with a front zipper that is made of a green and gold metallic silk brocade. The fabric is fabulous with an abstract floral pattern worked through the fabric in shades of golds and green. It has a simple A-line cut through the body paired with ling sleeves and a high collar. Hidden pockets lie along the inset front seams and the zipper front allows you to wear it high or plunged. It is absolutely gorgeous in person - better then the photos portray. Excellent condition with two small notes below

I see one teeny thinning of the fabric on the shoulder that is stable and strong but mentioned for accuracy. There is also a darkening of the fabric near the front bottom hem. I have photoed it. It is very faint and blends into the pattern.

Treacy Lowe based her designs on fabric and she had an incredible eye for choosing beautiful options. She tended to gravitate toward the lightest, finest silk tissues and chiffon available and these are the fabrics that are almost impossible to work with because they are so light and airy. She managed despite that and her results were dresses like this one. It weighs only a few ounces and is incredibly easy to wear and look fantastic in. The dress is cut with a slight nod to the Victorian era with a gathered and ruched neckline and upper bodice. In those areas the fabric has been gathered with tiny cross stitches and thatched, for a pretty and romantic feel. This same cross stitch effect is picked up again on each wide cuff. The dress flows out from the upper shoulder in a cascade of silk that drapes to the ground. You can wear it loose as shown or easily add instant shape by adding a belt or swath of fabric around the waist. The print on the silk is hand screened and the silk itself is the finest Indian silk you could get at that time. Excellent condition.

The body of the dress is fully lined in silk gauze hand dyed to match the exterior silk chiffon. The sleeves are left unlined. It slips over the head and closes at the neck with an attached tie and silk covered buttons. This one lost its label when it went to the dry cleaners but I guarantee it to be Treacy Lowe. The caftan cut will allow for a variety of sizes.

This fabulous Emilio Pucci for Formfit Rogers caftan robe is completely wearable as a dress, or it could be a chic beach cover up. Originally this would have been meant as a lingerie piece but a modern girl could definitely make it a part of her day or evening wear. The loose and easy cut is so flattering on so many figures. The nylon jersey flows perfectly from a dramatic, wide, square cut collar with his signature, contrasting edges. The sleeves are huge and full with a wide, almost kimono feel cut. The same contrasting design that you see all around the the collar is also used on the cuffs and hem for maximum impact. The nylon is fluid and soft and it weighs mere ounces. It is really a beautiful example of Pucci's masterful touch with color, pattern and cut. A real collectible and in the EPFR world, a real rarity. Excellent condition.

These jumpsuit from the La Mendola label are among my very favorites of all of their pieces. They have such style and fit so fabulously that I feel they are a must have in a vintage wardrobe. The La Mendola label is highly collectible and was sought after, not only now but also back in its heyday. The duo behind the label were designing in Rome for "It girls" like Elizabeth Taylor and Rita Hayworth and countless other celebrities and jet-setters. They were located in Italy and their atelier closed in 1974 giving us a date on this set just prior to that. They mainly produced long dresses in this same silk jersey fabric, but also did small runs of these chic and easy-to-wear jumpsuits. The simplicity of the cut belies the huge drama and impact that it has  once on the body. This one is made from a bright, custom designed print, in shades of citrus screened onto the silk jersey of the jumpsuit and also onto the silk chiffon over-lay. The jumpsuit has a high neck, wide legs and a simple cut through the bodice and sleeves and just slips  on and zips. Over this is goes a silk chiffon tabard that snaps into place along the top of one shoulder and under the arm. Together the are absolutely beautiful. Overall excellent condition with two tiny flaws to note below.

Unlined and closes at the back with a hand set painted metal zipper. There is no label but this is absolutely a La Mendola as I have had this exact same print with a label in the past and similar jumpsuit sets. There is a teeny tiny area of thinning to the silk on the tabard that sits low at the front. It is strong and stable and you really have to look for it while it's laid out flat. At the back of one leg at the hem there is a bit of discoloration and a small, faint water stain - again you see it when laid out but once on its not something you notice when its on.

Oscar De la Renta worked for Jane Derby in 1965 before buying the company in 1969 and changing it to his own label. That gives us a precise 4 year window in which to date this in and also means it is from the very beginning of his career - prior to Jane Derby he was working under and for other labels but not doing his own accredited design work. The dress is amazing and I am absolutely besotted with it. I have actually had this identical dress in blue in the shop before but had never seen this color version before finding this one. I love the shape and cut - it is so simple but the detailing and heavy embellishment are so fabulous that you cant help but be drawn to it. The fabric is a silver and lavender silk brocade and the silver has been woven through the fabric so that series of silver dots adorn the entire surface of the dress. The neckline is a deep V with a wide band of silver cording, pearls and rhinestones that follow the V of the neck and then circle around the waist. The same extraordinary detailing circles the hem with this same detailing. The photos do not come close to doing it justice - it is even more spectacular in person. A fabulous, very early Oscar De La Renta piece. Excellent condition

Fully lined in a pale lavender silk and closes with a side painted metal zipper and hook and eye across one shoulder. Built in bust cups that could easily be removed (I don't think they are original to the dress). Perhaps the teeniest tiniest edge of fading under one arm but its very light and I am being very picky. It does not detract at all when on.

This Givenchy coat is made from a very unusual fabric for its time period. The fabric is structured and almost feels like a cross between a canvas and a neoprene. This gives it an unusual feel to the finished texture. It is hard to describe but when you have it in your hands you will agree that it is very unique. I feel that perhaps its been waterproofed and this is what is giving it this finish. Regardless of what it is, the fabric choice is what gives it its structured feel and shape. It is covered in an abstract taupe print on a and white backdrop and this print runs over the entire coat. The lines of the coat are quite classic with a neat, notched collar and straight sleeve. It closes at the front with large silver metal tones buttons on a double row. It skins over the bust and hips and then flares out to the hem. It is extremely well made with a deep brown silk taffeta inside and hand finishes. The buttonholes are properly finished. It is absolutely gorgeous in person and even better than it looks in the photos. It appears to have never been worn or worn very little. Excellent condition

This dress is so pretty and feminine feeling. It is strapless and has a beautiful blue and green print screened onto the silk chiffon outer layer. The bodice is fitted with an inner boning to add support and hugs the bust and nips in the waist. This tops a skirt that whose outer layer of the same silk floats over an inner silk skirt and is made of yards and yards of bias cut fabric. The effect is floaty and romantic. Helena Barbieri designed evening and formal wear through the 1940s and into the late 1950s. Her work was always very feminine, with simple lines and using only the best fabrics. She then often added elaborate embellishments and detailing that took her dresses to a higher level and really gave them a touch of a Hollywood feel. I love finding her dresses because they feel rather timeless and stand up well to modern pieces. This is a beautiful example of her work whose simplicity is the result of masterful cut. It is the perfect balance of femininity and structure. Excellent condition

The dress is fully lined in a cream silk and close at the back with a painted metal zipper. The inner bodice is boned for support. There is slight discoloration under the bust area of the inner silk but it only on the interior. It has of course been cleaned so is ready to wear and this does not detract in any way from the dress.

This is the oddest little piece. It has the main house label and that label is numbered but it the fabric is a stretch jersey. Then to deepen the mystery the seams inside are all hand finished. But if you actually think back to the time period it all makes sense because this is a fabric that, though we take it for granted now, would have been cutting edge in the 70s and a couture house would have been considered edgy and experimental to use this in thise higher end designed. I believe that this was probably a special order for some jet setting client and that it was made and finished int he atelier. So not quite Haute couture but not true ready-to-wear either. Its a remarkable mix of the two worlds and combine ease and high end finishes. Caftans are always an amazing vintage staple and this one is a true caftan with minimal seaming. The neck is cut across and slightly gathered with a keyhole front. It is cut like a T with squared off sleeves and a straight cut body that drapes beautifully once on. The colors are true and vibrant with a fabulous print screened onto it from top to bottom. A stiffened, wide grosgrain ribbon hem adds weight so that it falls just right. The jersey used is washable and drapes and moves beautifully. Very easy to wear and pack as well. Excellent condition

The is the second time around that I have had a version of this dress in the shop and I think I love it even more now then I did then. This one is a little bit bigger in size then the first one was but otherwise the twin of the other. I love the full on "bling" factor that seventies metallic lurex has and when that fabric is used by a designer like Bill Blass the results are just magical. The dress is cut long and lean and the design that runs over its surface is a mod feeling swirl of taupes and chocolates mixed with gold thread so the entire dress has a subtle shimmer. The bodice of the dress has a simple, high rounded neckline. This flows over the bust to nip in at the waist slightly, topping the skirt. The skirt flows to the floor and is cut on an A-line as it gently widens to reach the hem. The long, lean sleeves are finished in the design detail that makes this piece absolutely over the top - each cuff ends in an explosion of dramatic, long feathers and gold tinsel strands - all woven together and in hues that pick up the colors of the fabric. Really an outstanding piece. Overall excellent condition

Interlined in a light cafe au lait silk and closes with a back metal zipper. There is the slightest of discoloration under the arms but it is very slight and does not show when on. Priced accordingly and quite less the the first one sold so a real steal.

This is the Nina Ricci demi-couture label from the 1980s and it has that amazing eighties aesthetic to it with its bold, full cut through the arms but is still refined enough that it does not feel like a "costume" like some eighties pieces feel. I am actually seeing a lot of similar pieces on the runways this past season or so and indeed this gown feels remarkably fresh. The dress is absolutely gorgeous and on a girl that it fits properly it is even better. (it was a touch too big on my mannequin). I love the gathered ruching that runs down the front - this not only adds that rich touch but also accents the smallness of the waist. The bodice is shaped around the bust with and then angles into those remarkable shoulders and sleeves that are cut loose and full with a generous cut that tapers down the a narrow wrist. Each wrist zips to close and the fabric is gathered and ruched around these closures, tying into the front detailing. To off-set that volume though the sleeves, the skirt is more fitted as it falls to the floor in a graceful column of silk that gently widens as it nears the hem. The impact of that bare back is the perfect, an unexpected, finishing touch. It is very well made and the tissue red silk interior gives it a rich and sensual feel once on. Excellent condition

I am always so pleased to have a Helena Barbieri piece come into the shop as they are a rare label to find and each is very special. She designed evening and formal wear through the 1940s and into the late 1950s. Her work was always very feminine, with simple lines and using only the best fabrics. She then often added elaborate embellishments and detailing that took her dresses to a higher level and really gave them a touch of a Hollywood feel. This one is no exception and has beautifully tailored lines and a touch of extravagance with that large front bow detail despite its simple "little black dress" lines. The skirt is long and cut lean with a slight widening at the hem. The waist is details with that beautiful satin banding and the bodice fitted with short sleeves. The bow is set to wind and wrap around the front panels of fabric and the effect is wonderful and flattering. A fine dress that is easy to wear and timeless. Excellent condition

Alberta Ferretti has really been producing amazing pieces the last few collections and this is a wonderful example of that. This feather light, supermodel long gown that is made entirely out of the lightest, finest silk chiffon and net is absolutely ethereal while still being a strong design statement. A band of long tube beads with crystal rhinestones detail the waist band and are set on both the front and at the back. Long raw edges strips of both silk net and silk chiffon trail down from shoulders and more crystal rhinestones, this time in black, circle the upper edge of the black portion of the hem. The top is constructed like a halter with a deep plunge between that goes right to the waist. Here the nude silk is covered with black net and it is the bet only that wraps over the shoulders and down tot he back. The back is otherwise left completely bare. The skirt is the opposite with a cream silk over black and it is all finely pleated. The effect of the nude silk over the black adds a beautiful dimension to the piece. The silk is very light but the  rhinestones that circle the skirt as mentioned above give it the weight needed to fall properly. The overall effect is that of a Grecian goddess and the piece is extraordinarily beautiful. Excellent condition

Fully lined an a feather light black silk chiffon. It closes with hidden snaps down the side. The raw edges on many of the finishing seams is deliberate. Tagged a US6, IT42, FR38, GB10. Victor Costa was particularly great at taking high end designs and making versions that were more affordable but still of a really good quality. His earlier pieces especially seem to stand up to time exceptionally well. This particular dress is a great example of just that. I love jersey dresses from the seventies and this is a great one. It is made from a solid raspberry colored jersey that drapes well and moves with you. It has long, lean lines and a fantastic shape. The front plunges and seaming details highlights the bodice. It has a sleek, fitted shape through the waist that tops a skirt made form yards and yards of fabric. With all that fabric and the bias cut feel of the jersey, you really get a tremendous amount of movement. Add to that the brilliant color and the dress is really a stand out piece. It is very chic and very Studio 54. The original tie belt is present that allows you to cinch in the waist or you can get clever and use it as a head piece. Excellent condition

Jean Louis is the designer who famously designed the dress worn by Marilyn Monroe in 1962 for JFK's Birthday party when she sang Happy Birthday to President Kennedy. Louis's attention to detail and the exquisite craftsmanship and couture level techniques are clearly apparent in this stunning dress. Vertical stripes of velvet are applied to a weightless silk chiffon backing. The photos cannot begin to convey the fluidity or richness of how this fabric feels. The neckline is cut high and skin peeps through the stripes on the sleeve. The skirt is a simple pencil and very flattering. The waist nips in and you can add even more shape with the patent belt that is original to the dress. You get the illusion of nudity through the bodice with the backing of nude silk chiffon. Very sexy and very chic. Excellent, unworn condition.

We often will never know the original price on a dress and when we find a piece that does have its original tags it is even more fascinating. At first glance the prices may seem low but you do have to take into account the current valuations and then think of just how much money that would have represented during a past time period and it is pretty mind-boggling. The original price tag is still present on this little masterpiece by the designer Jean Louis and it was a hefty $1170 even back then! If you pop that number into a historical values calculator and use a rough date of 1966 you get an approx current value of just under $10,000 and that is without tax.

Fully lined through the bodice in a nude silk chiffon and through the skirt in a fine black tissue silk. The sleeves are unlined. It closes with a low side painted metal zipper and snaps under the decorative buttons down the back to the waist above that. The entire side between the zipper and the back buttons snap and hooks into place among the waist seam. Each sleeve buttons to close. The original belt is present and in perfect condition. All the interior work is hand finished.

This lovely little dress appears to have never been worn and caught my eye for that fact and also that it has a real forties flare to it. Made by Cacharel it is made from a pretty, light silk crepe chiffon that has a lovely print screened across its surface. The base color is a pretty red and has white bits with black scrolls over it and together this really makes a pretty impact. The dress itself is a simple wrapped affair with long attached ties winding through the waist and wrapping the dress into place. Flutter, cap sleeves, a pretty ruffle around the neckline and a bias cut skirt hat gently flares out are the perfect finishes. It is a newer piece but has that lovely vintage feel to it and was too pretty to pass by. Excellent condition

Fully lined in a silk white crepe chiffon and wraps to close. There is no size tag just the Cacharel and fabric tags so please check the measurements. Being a wrap there is a little give up or down. I would guess this to be about a modern 6-8US

The Norman Norell company officially began in 1960 and he was quickly the darling of the social set and starlets. He was known for his impeccable tailoring and precision in cut. He often took day shapes and made them out of more evening appropriate fabrics - like fine silks as this one has been created from. I absolutely love this dress. The silk is a very fine grade and I love a red and white dot print. It has an extravagant attached tie that you can use to create a dramatic bow as I have. It comes with its original black patent belt which allows the waist to be cinched in tight. Each sleeve is cut wide from the bodice and then narrows to a zippered cuff. This piece (and others to come) were sourced by my fellow dealer and collaborator, David Sheflin, and it is an actual runway sample. All the Norells to list in the near future, including this one, were sourced from one the house models. She dated this one as from the 1963 collection or near to that. Excellent condition.

Fully lined in red silk that is hand set. The sleeves are left unlined. Closes down the front with a series of hand covered red silk buttons and then hidden snaps and hook & eye at the waist and below. Each sleeve has a hidden set zipper. Only the belt has the Norman Norell stamp, the dress itself has no tag. It may never have had one since it was a sample.

I love these sets from the legendary Emilio Pucci. They are a classic and so versatile since you are getting two amazing pieces in one shot. Plus they makes you think of far off tropical luxuries & lazy days spent by oceans with umbrella topped drinks in hand. Both of the pieces in this ensemble are superbly simple in cut, allowing the beauty of that custom print to shine. The colors are a beautiful combination of and soft pastels, all edged in fine black borders and signed throughout with that famous Pucci signature. In person you will be even happier with it as the pictures are not correctly capturing the pinks and soft pastel feel that it has. The skirt is one of his long signature cuts and is made of a whisper soft silk chiffon that allows it to drape and flow wonderfully. The top is also a light silk chiffon so has a hint of sexy transparency. Both pieces have his signature contrasting borders to show off the patterns to full effect. The sleeves are amazing on this one and very unusual - rather then a buttoned cuff, they are cut wide and full. Excellent condition.

The top is unlined and the skirt is lined in a silk chiffon. Both are hand finished. The top buttons at the front and on each cuff and the skirt has a painted metal zipper.

The better Bessi pieces are right up there with Emilio Pucci and Leonard in terms of style, construction and quality and this particular dress is just fabulous and feels like it is straight off the rack as it is in such amazing condition. A soft lemon serves as the base color with grapes and flowers trailing up the dress and over the bodice, spilling onto each sleeve. This would most likely be a custom design done by the house of Bessi specifically for this pattern of dress as the design falls perfectly into the panels of fabric. The choice of the silk is the reason why the colors are still crisp and bright even after all these years. The cut is beautiful and long with wide cut sleeves that really show off the print. The skirt flows to the floor and widens softly as it reached the hem. I love the softly scooped neckline and that gorgeous print. A contrasting border defines the neck and cuffs, gives the waist definition and acts as a design element down the center front of the skirt. A real beauty and an amazing color combination. Excellent condition

A seriously sexy and very form fitting Dolce & Gabbana dress that is made of a bright, tropical feeling floral printed stretch silk that is made to mold and hug the body. You just step in, zip it and it instantly clings to every curve. I love vibrant and giant Lilly design that covers the entire surface of the dress on a backdrop of brilliant blue. It is just so pretty to look at and is an instant mood lifter. The cut is simple so that print takes center stage. A high neck and long lean line that reminds me of a sleeker version of a Cheongsam. This is classic Dolce and Gabbana and very sexy. Excellent condition.

Fully lined in a black stretch jersey and closes at the back with a zipper. The fabric is cut so that it has stretch and molds to the body but the lining keeps it flattering. Tagged a 40. The fabric has stretch.

This Oscar De la Renta gown is just waiting for the perfect party and I am thrilled to have it in the shop. The construction is beautiful on this one with a really sculpted defined shape and that incredible silver metallic design worked directly into the fabric. I love the oversized plaid pattern, when done in a silver lurex thread woven into the deep blue silk base it seems to take on a fresh new light and different perspective. The gown is a dream of construction with internal details like tulle set in and around the hip to gently hold the shape there and a wide band of dressmakers tape hidden inside the hem so that when it falls it has a touch of weight and fullness. The collar and front are done in wide panels of deep blue silk that anchor the gown and keep the silver from being overwhelming. Oscar being Oscar the still added some extra glimmer with huge glass crystal buttons running down the front. I love the shape and cut - it is classic hostess gown and very glamorous with a full skirt that flows to the floor and is perhaps a touch fuller then how it photoed. A fabulous and early Oscar design that is even better in person. Excellent condition

Adolfo started his career under Balenciaga and like Halston, was a successful milliner before opening his own fashion house. He became know for his Chanel inspired suiting and knit pieces and as time as passed more and more vintage collectors really value and love his early work for both their quality and subtle quirkiness that sets his pieces apart from the more traditional houses the inspiration came from. This little dress is wonderful example of just that and is fascinating to see the recent resurgence of star print walk modern runways. It is made of a deep, deep navy blue woven knit with a stark white star design that runs over the fabric. The edges of the V neck and cuffs have a white trim design. I love the capped shoulders and forties feeling cut with its swinging little flared skirt. The waist is defined by a seam but set low - you could wear it low slung for a more almost 20s feel or belt it and create more of a blousing effect and shorter skirt length. Its a great little piece and has a really timeless feel to it. Presents as excellent condition but does have one small flaw to note below.

Unlined and closes at the back with a painted metal and nylon zipper. Very small padding aling the seam of the shoulder only. There is a small spot on the front that is visible only in certain lights and angles. I took a photo of it front he top and had the photo lightened a bit so you can see it. I would still wear the dress as is but it is priced accordingly. I suspect another round at the cleaners may get it out.

This navy and silver dress is a wonderful and early example of Geoffrey Beene's work and to me completely sums up the Beene aesthetic - a simple, almost monastic cut combined with  unexpected details and the bold use of graphic lines. This combination makes a high impact in the simplest of ways and solidified Beene as one of the great American designers. The cut on this dress is supermodel long and lean. The placement and use of that vertical silver cord detailing that runs down the front only adds to the length and line he wanted to create. The double set silver line is only broken by the deliberately placed silver detail at the empire waist - creating a striking off set cross. Domed silver buttons run down the front between the double row of silver. Simple but dramatic, perfectly constructed and because of the type of wool jersey used, the line and shape remains in that stark column when on. A wonderful, statement piece from a master. Excellent condition.

Fully lined in a fine blue silk that is hand set. It closes with silver toned, rounded metal buttons down the front. Note that there is a nip in the fabric near shoulder (photoed) and a similar flaw near the seam at the hem - it is priced accordingly and both are stable and held up to cleaning. Each cuff has hidden set zippers. It unbuttons all the way open so you can use it as a layered piece as well.

The combination of the deep blue combined with the tropical prints give this wonderful little Dior a nod the the forties. That combined with the gorgeous bare shoulder silhouette makes this dress a real little beauty. The collar is accented by a wide flat ruffled edging that circles the shoulders and gives the dress a little bit of a dramatic feel but not so much that you couldn't wear it for either day or evening. The bodice has softly fitted and the waist is nipped in and accented further by a matching belt. The skirt below is a simple pencil that allows that combination of shoulder and print to take center stage. The silk taffeta fabric choice allows for the dress to have it's structured lines and and not feel too flowing or loose fitting. It is exquisite. Excellent condition.

This is a treasure and a strong statement piece. This insanely fabulous Christian Dior coat can be considered demi-couture as it is primarily hand finished and would have been sent to the New York shop with its design based on the Haute Couture version. The length is to the knee and the cut is generous through the body - the better too accommodate a full dress underneath. It is made of a rich silk brocade with a combination of gold and metallic red on a black base. The brilliance of the gold in person is fabulous and if you have already fallen in love you will be thrilled to see it in person. I have tried to capture the brilliance of the fabric so you can see how wonderful it is but you will have to trust that in person the color is richer and deeper and has a real lush, rich feel to it. A neat collar sits at the neck and the pockets are hidden along the seam at the front so the line is kept simple and the fabric given center stage. It closes with buttons that are obviously hand made specifically for the coat since each has a flower from the design in the fabric perfectly centered on it. I love this little extra detail. The back is left simple and neat with the attention given to the cut and line. The final luxurious touch are the sleeves, where each is trimmed with a glossy mink cuff. This one is truly luminescent in person and you will fall in love instantly! Excellent, museum quality condition.

Fully lined in a hand set black silk taffeta. Closes with the buttons at the front and has hidden pockets along the front seams. Mid-weight and the fur cuffs are glossy and thick with minimal normal wear to the edges. A slight darkening to the metallic fabric at the inner back neck.

Manish Arora has been steadily gaining a following for his elaborately embroidered, printed and sequined pieces and deservedly so. He has full assess to some of the best embroidery and hand work India has to offer and his prints and colors used are bold and unique. From a few seasons ago this is a striking dress that is a great example of his aesthetic. It has a classic 1960s mod A-line silhouette with no sleeves and a high neckline neckline. Once its past the bust it flares out quite dramatically and this creates an expanse of fabric that really showcases the design that runs over its surface. Neon accented eagles swoop and dive over its surface with elaborately sequined heads and a red knot of embroidery for the eyes. They seem about to land atop brilliantly silver sequin roc eggs against a charcoal backdrop. The effect is stark and wonderful. Manish is based on New Delhi and his love of his country and history shines through in the touches he brings to his designs. Excellent condition

Victor Costa was known for producing dresses that were almost scandalously close to the work of other designers - which women loved and other designers hated. I always find his work to be a little hit and miss with his early pieces being the ones that have a bit more "oomph" and care care put into their execution. This dress is a really fabulous example of his work and still feels shockingly modern. It is made from yards and yards of a printed cotton mix. Onto the light red base is a pretty and delicate little floral print in white covering the dress. The bodice is scooped and curved with ties at the top to adjust for fit. The waist is set high and tops the most amazing  skirt. It is just marvelous with tiers of fabric that are attached to each other with a gathering of the fabric so that each tier gets wider as it falls to the ground. I love the braided cord that details the edges of the bodice and sits between each hem. When it arrives you will be shocked at the weight of it because of all that fabric but once on it is completely comfortable to wear. Excellent condition.

This dress and capelet set by Yves Saint Laurent is just dreamy and a piece you will want to wear over and over. The dress on its own is fabulous but once topped with the cape, it takes on an even greater airiness and lightness and you see just how cleverly the two pieces work together. It is made from a feather light silk chiffon that has one of his signature tiny floral prints printed onto the fabric in two soft tangerine shades. The dress is a simple affair that is suspended from the shoulders from two straps made of the same fabric. The body of the dress flows from bust to hem in a gentle widening A-line with a second, pointed-panel of fabric on both the front and back attached around the top of the bodice. These panels float over the inner dress and add such a beautiful sense of movement and lightness. Finally, the cape pops over the head and gently sits on the shoulders and that same angled line is used with this as well so that you get this beautiful continuation of that lines from top to bottom. It is just stunning and a rare and wonderful Laurent piece. Excellent condition

The dress and capelet are unlined though the top layer does give it some opaqueness. The dress slips on and closes with a button at one side that sits over a slight keyhole. The cut all through the body is loose and full but the fit around the upper bust is small so that measurement has to work for it to fit. Tagged a vintage 34

Before there were emoji's there was Moschino. That sense of humour and fin is what defines the very best pieces from Moschino and this piece not only has their hallmark bright colors but that wonderful twist through the fabulous printed buttons used. The dress and jacket are made from a kaleidoscope of colors on a stretch jersey fabric mixed with black to anchor everything. The dress is a sexy little fitted sheath that hugs your curves and glides over the body. Over this pops a fitted jacket whose entire front has that same insane rainbow of colors. I love how the back of both pieces is done in a stark black giving maximum effect when you turn and see the explosion of color. The perfect finish is of course the buttons that run down the front of the jacket and up each sleeve with their little printed faces. How can you not be anything but happy in a piece like this? Excellent condition.

Both pieces are lined in a lingerie weight, stretch black nylon. The dress closes with a back zipper and the jacket buttons at the front. The buttons on each sleeve are decorative only. The fabric has some stretch. Lightly padded shoulders in the jacket. Tagged a US8

This is a very pretty green floral cocktail dress by Louis Estevez that is really representative of his early work. Louis Estevez worked for Jean Patou for two years before starting his own label in 1955 and this really shows why women flocked to his atelier for both day and evening wear. It is impeccably constructed and cut so that it looks like you are wearing a chic little shell over a skirt but it is indeed a proper dress that just have clever and meticulous construction. I love the soft, watercolor feeling floral print that covers the dress in the perfect combination of green hues. The neckline is cut high and square at the front and back is scooped. The shell of the top sits over and interior voile under-dress attached to the skirt so it sits perfectly. I love the crushed velvet bow and banding around the waist that defines the shape and picks up the deeper color of the print on the dress. Below the velvet the skirt falls in a chic and simple A-line. It is just gorgeous. Excellent condition!

Fully lined in a soft green voile and the attached shell of the bodice is lined a a light muslin. It closes with a painted metal zipper at the side and the shell overlay closes with a combination of hook & eye and snaps. One shoulder closes with hook & eye as well. Hand finishes.

This dress was Look 44 on the 2009 Resort Runway Collection. At the time, Oscar quoted to Style.com "It's a very happy collection", and indeed it was, filled with spectacular pieces like this. The dress is a sleeveless shift-style dress fashioned from sheer layers of black and nude silk chiffon with top layers of black silk tulle. The outer layer is a black tulle outer with a fabulous applique of square black "sequins" mixed with squares of layered black organza and a crinkled chiffon fabric that runs over the entire dress top to bottom.  Additionally there are glossy black square and round faceted bead/crystal accents giving the entire dress a subtle sparkle.  A wide black grosgrain bow sits at waist and I love how this goes through the sides and actually hooks around the waist of the wearer inside the dress. This allows the back to have that incredible volume and beautiful "watteau" effect that adds the perfect amount of drama. The sheerness allows you to style it numerous ways from a simple nude slip, to adding color or going very daring and wearing boy shorts and a bra under it that are meant to be seen for a more edgy feel. Feather light. In unworn, excellent condition.

Unlined and closes with a back hidden zipper.  The silk grosgrain ribbon "belt" fastens with hook and eye closures at the back inside the dress. Beautifully finished
