Voguepedia says of Gilbert Adrian: "In the hands of the legendary Hollywood designer Gilbert Adrian, clothes could do and say magical things. From the flower-festooned munchkin costumes in The Wizard of Oz to the elegance-defining “Gowns by Adrian” worn by screen stars like Norma Shearer, Barbara Stanwyck, and Joan Crawford—and copied by the hundreds of thousands for the humbler masses—Adrian was the definition of cinematic invention for more than a decade.....Adrian’s signature custom-retail label, founded in 1942, was wildly popular. His gowns bore distinctive names like “Dinner with a Dash of Gold” and “Shades of Picasso,” and he catered to an elite set of style mavens in Hollywood."
After extensive research on what information is out there I believe this to be the "It's not True" gown from the second collection that Gilbert Adrian produced in his atelier in 1942 after opening it earlier that year. The gown is absolutely outstanding and in a world where Adrian Gilbert pieces are already rare, this particular gown is even more special even if you simply based it on how utterly beautiful it is. It is made of a combination of silk taffeta and hand made lace that I believe is hand made French silk needle lace. The bodice is entirely crafted out of black lace with an inner nude colored silk chiffon inset. From a distance this gives the illusion that the wearer is utterly bare from the waist up except for the covering of fine netted lace. The waist is defined with a black silk band. From there, a magnificent ball gown skirt cascades to the floor in a sweep of silk. This skirt is made of two layers. The inner solid black silk layer is edged along its inside hem with a wide band of stiffened net to give it weight and shape. The exterior layer is also silk but has huge curving panels of lace inset into it. These cover the skirt in great swooping curves on both the front and back. Each lace inset is edged with a lace ruffle that goes the skirt more dimension. The perfect finishing touch is the tightly spaced row of lace covered buttons that run up the back of the bodice. A beautifully feminine touch on an already perfectly romantic and fine gown. Excellent museum quality with some notes below.
The bodice has a nude silk chiffon inner piece as seen. The skirt is made of two layers of silk. It closes with a low back painted metal zipper and tightly spaced lace covered buttons and loops up the back. Hand finished throughout. There is a stitch here and there where breaks to the lace happened and some sections where there are multiple vertical splits to the lace. I see one repair on the skirt that gets lost in the excess of fabric. The stiffening net that is used in the inner most hem has broken strands and is torn in places but it is only the netting and not the fabric it is attached to. It is original to the dress and cannot be seen when on so is left as found as are the other small flaws. The gown is strong and wearable with care. Note that due to the rarity and expense of this gown it is final sale.

"When Fashion Danced" was the title of the first major exhibit of Stephen Burrow's work and it took place at the Museum of The City of New York. The Museum's said this of it: "Stephen Burrows: When Fashion Danced looks at the period spanning the 1970s when Stephen Burrows’s meteoric rise to fame made him not only the first African-American designer to gain international stature, but a celebrated fashion innovator whose work helped define the look of a generation. With vibrant colors, metallic fabrics, and slinky silhouettes that clung to the body, Burrows’s danceable designs generated a vibrant look that was of a piece with the glamorous, liberated nightlife of the era. Through photographs, drawings, and original garments, the exhibition will trace Burrows’s evolution from creating eclectic looks for his friends in the 1960s to his work with the chic 57th Street retailer Henri Bendel to the floor of Studio 54, as he dressed such 70s style icons as Cher, Liza Minnelli, and Diana Ross."
Included in that exhibit was this dress from 1972. This is the actual dress shown at the exhibit. I have included photos of it at exhibit, one of which has Stephen standing in front of it! Also included is a 1972 photograph of Pat Cleveland and Stephen where Pat is where the same dress in a different colorway! This is one of his best know designs - a fluid jersey dress that draped onto the body and wrapped & tied. The lettuce hem - of which this dress has in abundance - is his signature finish. Two layers of a fluid jersey sit atop each other to make this gorgeous dress and the contrast of the blue and yellow are divine. This layering technique gives the dress more movement and drape then a single layer would have. The halter neck slips over the head and the whole front wraps over itself to form the bust and skirt. It ties with attached ties and all that ruffled edging settles beautifully into place. Very sexy and sophisticated. Lovely to have a piece with such acclaimed providence.
The dress is fully lined in a second layer of the same jersey. It wraps and ties to close. There is discoloration to one panel at the front and I see three pinholes and small minor snagging to the fabric. It can be hidden under the belt and worn as is. I have had a client with a similar issue, have the hole where the belt slips through closed and one created on the other side so that it ties on the opposite side and therefore hies the the panel with discoloration and it worked perfectly. It is too fabulous and collectible especially with the Museum provenance so is presented as is with a greatly adjusted price point.

Jean Louis is the man behind that famous gown that Marylin Monroe wore while singing Happy Birthday Mr President. His was known for his gowns and this one is spectacular. Made out of a heavy gold silk, the fabric was then covered in hand embroidered flowers, each edged in gold beads. The design is raised and the beads heavily applied in a way that each design that covers the dress is highlighted to maximum effect. The seaming is wonderful with the upper bodice formed and curved. It nips in at the waist and then the skirt is cut in a soft curving flare to the ground. The back is cut slightly longer then the front. I love the scooped neckline and the back that dips just a touch lower mimicking the hem. It is hand finished inside and all that work to the spectacular fabric is done by hand. It is museum worthy and quite special. Presents as excellent condition. The photos do not come close to capturing the "glow" it has in person.
Fully lined an hand finishes and set pale golden silk. It closes with a back painted metal zipper. There is one exterior flaw to the dress that I have photoed - this is near the bottom front hem and I actually missed it when purchasing and photoing as once in you do not see it. This could be eliminated by shortening the front slightly or the edges carefully tacked down around it. There is a similar tear inside the lining on the back side which of course is not seen when on. If you would like to me tack it down before sending I will but since it is so rare and valauble I left it as original and just had it specialty cleaned.

George Stavropoulos was an amazing designer and to find his early work is already fabulous but to find a piece done at this level is just a treat. This coat is really museum worthy. His clients, who included Elizabeth Taylor and opera singer Maria Calla, adored and cherished him for his ability to create stunning evening wear. His hallmark pieces were simple but with a masters attention to cut. He shunned overt ornamentation and instead focused on cut and fabric to convey the beauty of each piece. This is an amazing example of what he could create following that simple guideline. This is the coat to end all coats. The fabric is a weighty silk brocade whose pattern of flowers and horizontal vines is created by metallic gold threads ranging from a pale silver gold to a deep copper. The cut from the front is simple and almost a column with a slight flaring out as it nears the hem. The back is pure drama with the majority of the fabric falling from the curved seam at the back with a large inverted pleat running down the center to create further volume. It is absolutely incredible! Excellent condition

Patricia Lester gowns are often referred to as "Fortuny inspired" however, she has said that she actually had not see the work of Fortuny when she embarked upon her journey to create this unique pleated fabric. Her husband Charles has worked with Patricia from their studio in Wales since 1964 and they produced, and are still producing, some of the most exquisite fabric ever made. Their pleating technique, though reminiscent of Fortuny, is proprietary to them. The silks were hand dyed and printed and in this case tube beads were hand applied to run along the pleats and highlight the design. This particular set was hand dyed to a pale lemon yellow. The underskirt flows to the floor and the simple tunic falls over this in long lovely lines. The shoulders are slightly capped with just a hint of a peak at their tops. I love how the edges of the hem falls in points at the front and back of the tunic. The collar is finished in a band of tightly spaced tube beads and these same beads highlight the design in the skirt and tunic. I have not seen a Lester piece with this treatment before and it is very beautiful! Though their studio is not officially a Haute Couture atelier, the work and craft behind their pieces are certainly on par and can definitely be described as couture as few houses produce dresses that are made by hand from fabric to finish. The tunic can be worn on its own for a shorter dress feel as well so the set is very versatile. Excellent condition
Unlined and both pieces slip on. The waist of the skirt is elastic. Because of the unique pleat technique these will fit virtually any size. The color is slightly more of a pale lemon yellow without the golden tones as it photoed. Better in person!

This is an incredible caftan feeling gown by Hanae Mori done completely in silk chiffon! The color of the silk is a beautiful green with subtle tones and shades of green making up the print. It is cut very full and loose on the top and has the illusion of being gathered up into the front waist. The effect is absolutely stunning. I love the fullness of the "sleeves " giving it an almost caped effect since the come right out from the waist and then drape over the seam at the waist. The neck is plunged for a bit of skin. The silk chiffon of the full length skirt cascades over the inner skirting and flows to the floor. It is just amazing and the construction very high end! Presents as excellent condition but please see next paragraph for some small condition issues.
Fully lined in a green silky rayon that shows slight wear but of course you do not see it when on. It slips on the wear and the front then closes with hidden snaps. There are some watermarks on the front bodice - please super size the 7th photo where we have lightened the color to make these even more apparent then they are. There is one teeny repair that gets lost in the front folds. I have priced this at about half of what it would normally be which is really a steal as I feel you could wear it as is and it is one of her finer. more coveted designs.

Oscar de la Renta always does chic and sophisticated at a different level then anyone else and this little print dress in a fine, light wool is a beautiful example. Its early and has what would be come a staple cut for him - slightly puffed sleeves. a button front and a skirt just on the side of full and set softly into the waist by gentle pleats. It has an attached tie and another for the waist to add more shape. The black insets on the skirt are a slightly more textured silk wool crepe. Love that it still has its original shawl that you can pair with the dress or use on its own Very well made. Excellent condition.

One of the holy grails in the vintage world this version of the most iconic of YSL pieces is from the eighties and is amazing! Countless celebrities have been spotted in it and its one of the most identifiable of Yves' pieces out there. This one is done in a gold toned khaki and has all the hallmarks of that tunic made famous when it was photoed on Verushka. It's short and meant to be worn as a tunic but is just long enough that you can wear it as an ultra short mini. The front ties and the ties loop through huge grommets down the front. The gap between the two sides plunges to just below the belly button so is scandalously sexy. These rare come up to market so grab it while you can. It's a sound investment pieces and insanely fabulous. Excellent condition
Unlined and slips on to wear. Ties at the front. Carved wood buttons on each pocket and cuff. Note that there are a couple marks on the back - they show as a slight darkening of color. These may come out with additional cleaning. Please super-size to see - it has been priced accordingly. Tagged a vintage YSL 40.

This is iconic! The safari pieces from Yves Saint Laurent are amongst his most collectible and this dress is one of the best pieces outside of that classic tunic that I have seen! It is insanely cool, chic and sexy! Made of his classic Khaki canvas fabric it id cut with a loose and easy cut that is meant to skim over the body in the chicest of ways. The sleeves are rolled and the neckline is kept bare. The sexiness comes into play with that diagonal cut , grommets and tied corset feel that runs across the bodice and down the front. There is no backing behind this so depending on how it is tied you get little glimpse of skin through the grommets or more overt peeks between the two edges! It is a touch larger then my mannequin and I did not want to overly pin it so keep this in mind when checking measurements. Excellent overall condition
Unlined and ties at the front as seen. It is a touch more of a true YSL khaki color then how it photoed. There are the teeniest scattering of marks on the front. Please super size the photo. When on they are virtually unnoticeable but you do see the when it is lying flat and in light. They may soften more with additional cleaning. Priced accordingly.

An amazing 1970s Ungaro toweling caftan for the beach that is the epitome of hippie chic. Looking like it could have been worn by Talitha Getty this is an amazing and easy to wear piece. Based on a classic caftan this pairs a toweling cotton with a dramatic chocolate and white checked pattern. It plunges to the waist and is tied with the original tie to create some shape. It is amazing and in excellent condition!
Unlined and ties to close at the front. The sides are partially closed under a wide opening for the arm.
The cut of the caftan will allow pretty much any size to wear it. It is a good weight fabric - think a luxury towel.

The print on this lovely cotton caftan gown was inspired by Zandra's 1971 trip to Australia. In the book "The Art of Zandra Rhodes:" she says of this design: ... (it is ) a simplification of the original pin-cushion shapes of the tufts of desert grass translated into a very tight geometric manner.... I created a sort of landscape out of the tufts then added sky and border lines from similar wiggle lines inherited from "Wiggle and Check"."
Most of this collection was done on silks but this caftan is on a light lavender cotton with the design painted onto the fabric in a pretty shade of pink. Very easy to wear as it just slips on and you can adjust the tie at the waist. Sexy plunge front and wide kimono-esque sleeves. Love how a subtle ruffled edge runs down the skirt and around above the hem for a little extra detail. Cut fairly slim through the skirt bit that ruffle hides a slit so its comfortable to walk in. Once on is like wearing nothing once on and is very light and feels fabulous! Excellent condition.
Unlined and slip on to wear with a tie through the waist. There is slight fading to to one shoulder. This would not photo and does not detract when on but you can see it when lying flat and in strong light. It is priced accordingly.
Sleeves & shoulders: 42 all the way from one sleeve edge tot he other when lying flat. No true shoulder definition as it is cut like a kimono"

This stunning cocktail ensemble was made for the mother of the woman this was acquired from. She was a Dior Haute Couture client and this was made specifically for her in Paris and is a one of. It bears the Patron Original label and this label was used for two purposes - it would indicate a gown custom made for a client that was not always exactly to the version presented on the runway or was one entirely made for the individual altogether on a collaborative effort between client and designer or, in some cases, especially for earlier pieces it was the equivalent of a "sample" that was made by the atelier and sent to licensed ateliers that made dresses for their individual markets under the strict supervision and approval of the house. This was a way to get around the strict customs controls of earlier time periods, a practice began and initiated by the house of Dior. In either case pieces bearing this label are considered to be Haute Couture.
It is beautifully made and has couture finishes. Made of layers of fine red silk chiffon the outfit has three pieces - a wrap skirt, a wrap tunic and a long sash. You can wear the tunic over or tucked into the skirt and of course can mix the pieces with other pieces. The skirt is absolutely wonderful. It is as light as air and wraps to close with hooks and snaps along the waist. Under the top layer of gold thread infused silk is a second layer of red silk. It is cut so that as it crosses in the front one layer comes up and creates a pretty effect down the front. The way its moves when you twirl is amazing! The tunic is caught up with hooks at the waist and plunges quite low if you wish it to. It has that same gold edged woven ribbon effect and is also as light as airy as the skirt. A long sash allows you to cinch it in at the waist or you could use it as a hair wrap. It's a touch larger sized but could be adjusted easier because of the simple closures if you are smaller. The tag is numbered. Excellent, appears unworn condition
Both pieces are fully lined in a red silk chiffon. The skirt closes with flat hook and eye & snaps as does the tunic. An inner waist stay sits inside the waist of the tunic. Each sleeve has a small zipper at its cuff.
Note that this will sit on a real girl much better then how it photoed. I don't like to over pin and it is larger then the mannequin it is one. On the right size girl this is wonderful. If you love the photos then buy knowing it is better in person!

This may be one of the most fantastic gowns that Givenchy ever produced! Hand screened silk chiffon that has a romantic floral print is the basis of this masterpiece. The gown itself is simple and perfect - a softly gathered high bodice with teeny silk straps tops a flowing silk chiffon skirt that fall to the floor in a pretty column. It weighs mere ounces and you will feel like it floats around you as you walk. The overall effect is sift and ethereal like some beautiful goddess worthy gown. Astonishingly beautiful and a true example of how extraordinary great design can be when cut and fabric are married to perfection. A similar gown was used in the 1977 ad campaign and appeared in L'Officiel - see last photo. Excellent, museum quality condition
Fully lined in a deep grape colored silky rayon. It closes with a side, fine metal painted zipper. Hand finished. The upper seam on the bodice is elastic for the perfect fit. You can tuck the straps in and wear it strapless as well.

This is an amazing example of the power of a simple silk jersey and the right cut! When I purchased this many years ago it was from the estate of a former model who was given it in exchange for her work on the runway, a common practice at the time. As a result it has the original runway sample, handwritten label, as well the interior Christian Dior label. It has some wonderful late seventies details like those incredible sleeves that when on appear to be curved draped panels that narrow down to skinny wrists and forearms, However, once you lay it flat you see the peaked, squared off shape that this was cut in to create that curving shape. The entire shoulder is elastic so you can wear it on or off the shoulder or leave only a single shoulder exposed - very sexy. The waist is cut wide and loose and meant to slouch even with its elastic finish and the skirt falls to just above the ankle. You could add a low slung belt for more shape. Hidden side pockets give it the perfect slouchy cool girl vibe. The jersey is a rich wine color and flattering to most skin tones. Really a fabulous piece! Excellent condition.
Unlined and slips on to wear. Hand finishes inside. Four fabric covered buttons on each sleeve and there is still the original extra button sewn inside the skirt along a seam. A small keyhole under the elastic of the neckline at the back. Hidden pockets along each hip.
Note the cut is deceptive as it was meant to be worn loose and slouchy - it will fit a variety of sizes comfortably

This is an Important and exceptional silk taffeta, tiered and dramatically ruffled ball gown skirt paired with its matching top with equally dramatic sleeves. It comes from the estate of Kezia Keeble, an important New York publicist and past fashion editor for Vogue and Esquire, who was well known for her irrepressible enthusiasm. Correspondence with her daughter by my client will be included verifying that this set was worn to both a Met gala and a CFDA gala and did indeed belong to Ms Keeble.
It is believed that this set was custom made and based on the 1980 Haute Couture collection as seen in the "Yves Saint Laurent" book published by The Metropolitan Museum in 1984 and a dress with similar ruffle treatment shown in the "YSL, Yves Saint Laurent" book published in 2012. This Rive Gauche version would have been based on that Haute Couture gowns from the 1980 collection. Our example was done in his signature silk taffeta and featured an exorbitant ruffle treatment to the skirt and sleeves and is just phenomenal. The skirt is extremely full and the photos do not do the amount of fabric in it justice. The sheer amount of fabric in the skirt - both in volume and in the ruffles is astounding. The fabric choice allows it to be somewhat light in weight despite all those ruffles and yet retain its shape and fullness. I love that the ruffles cover every square inch of the skirt, circling it in ever widening rows as it tiers out and down from the waist. The top is cut full through the body - almost box shape and has a ruffled collar and a strip of fabric down the front that hides the buttons. Each sleeve is cut wide at the shoulder and then tapers gracefully to the wrist. Tiers of ruffles adorn each sleeve. It is just wonderful and truly a work of art and an important piece of fashion history for the discerning collector. It is also very versatile since it is separates and the pieces can be worn together and presents as a gown, or you may pair them up with other pieces in your wardrobe. Excellent condition. Very rare and museum worthy. You will never see a piece like this again and it is exceptional in every possible way.
This outfit is also featured in the book Roxanne Lowit photographs Yves Saint Laurent on Sayoko Yamaguchi
Unlined but finished to very high standards. The top buttons at the front and is cut straight through the body. The skirt closes with a side, fine metal painted zipper and a flat hook and eye at the waist. The skirt is tagged a vintage 40 and I presume the top is the same size.
Please click to read the New York Times write-up on Ms Keeble after her untimely death at the age of 48. She was an exceptional woman.

This is an exceptional silk taffeta, tiered and ruffled ball gown skirt paired with its matching top and original sash. In the "Yves Saint Laurent" book, published by The Metropolitan Museum 1984, a dress with similar ruffle treatment is shown and mention made of the sleeve treatment that year. This Rive Gauche version would have been based on that Haute Couture gown from the 1977-78 collection. Yves designed these "poetic taffeta gowns in what might be termed a Proustian vein". This Haute Couture look was then translated into silk taffeta gowns for the Rive Gauche label. Our example is done in his signature silk taffeta mixed with velvet detailing and is just phenomenal. The skirt is full and yet light. The fabric choice allows it to be very light in weight and yet retain its shape and fullness. I love the expanse of ruffles that circle the hem and then again half way up the skirt. This helps give the skirt weight and keeps the shape. I would like to note that there is an incredible amount of fabric in the skirt - it is truly remarkable. The top has a ruffled collar that trails down each side of the plunging front. Each shoulder is cut high and wide and I have slightly styled it so that it sits up so you can truly get an idea of how fabulous the cut is. Another ruffle finishes each sleeve. The waist is further cinched with a wide, attached sash that ties around the waist and is original to the set. It is just wonderful and truly a work of art! The silk chiffon covered dropped back on this gown is almost scandalous it drops so low. What the photos can't convey is how fine the silk is and the suppleness of the gown since all the sequins are done by hand onto that silk backdrop. It is a good generous size which is unusual sometimes in couture. It is cut like a long lean column so that the sexuality of the dress is not because it fits your every curve but that it skims over them and the sheer panels at the back and around the neck and upper bodice suggest what lies underneath. I love how the sequins are applied in a flame design around bust. It is very beautiful and once seen in person you instantly understand that it was very expensive and the work is just exquisite. It was a touch to big on my mannequin and I did not want to overly pin it so on a real girl of the proper size it will fit over the body better. Excellent condition.
Fully lined in a high grade fine black tissue silk with hand placed and sewn silk chiffon borders placed over the edges where the sequins fold over inside the interior. This extra step is done so that no sequin edge inadvertently rub on the wearer. All hand work inside. Closes with a hand set, fine metal zipper. 21" slit up on side

Caftans are always an amazing vintage staple but to find one by the Yuki brand is a treat. As was his trademark this caftan displays minimal seaming with one one central seam down the front and back and across the top of each shoulder. It is shockingly sexy despite its full cut. The front plunges to the waist and has a touch of detailing and gathering there to suggest the body underneath. The side drape and cocoon down beautifully. The color is perhaps a touch deeper then shows and the jersey used drapes and moves beautifully.
Unlined and slips on to wear with a hidden zipper and hook & eye at the front.
The body of the caftan is entirely free and will fit a variety of sizes.

Maggy Reeves was a couture level designer in Canada and her pieces are as rare as rare can be. It is a delight and privilege to be able to pass on a piece of her work! Especially when it is as beautiful as this dress and jacket is! Both the dress and the jacket are constructed entirely of silk and a silk metallic brocade. The bodice of the dress is a high grade silk in a deep mustard and the attached skirt is a luxurious silk metallic thread brocade that is just sublime. The brocade has little multi-color silk dots in it! The same brocade was used to construct the jacket. The dress is cut simply with a high neck and long cuffed sleeves and a simple cut skirt. The jacket has a tightly spaced double breasted front and a neat, small collar. The simplicity of the design really allows that stunning fabric to shine front and center. A jeweled belt slit low on the hips and adds an extra bit of glitz. It is all hand finished and has high end couture finishes. It is a superb example of her high workmanship and techniques and feels surprisingly modern. Excellent condition.
The dress is fully lined in a hand set, pale yellow silk. It closes with a hand set painted metal zipper. Each cuff closes with fabric covered, hidden snaps. The jacket closes at the front with domed gold toned metal buttons. Proper dressmakers buttons holes. The jacket is lined with hand set green silk. The belt has hook & eye to close and the jeweled piece is a brooch that can be removed.

This is an exquisite 1960s net sheath whose exterior is covered with hand done bead work. Made of two layers of a fine pale pink net with flowers adoring its surface. You would rarely see this level of handwork on a piece today and if you did it would cost far more! ! Each flower is a beautiful dense portrait with tube beads, faux pearls, sequins and rhinestones forming a raised 3D effect blossom. These cover the entire dress on both the front and back. Along each side on both the front and back and around the collar is a thick banding of pearls, rhinestones and beads. There is a high slit on either side of the leg and it otherwise falls in a perfect column. This was purchased in France and worn one time and stored flat since. It is a remarkable example of the fined hand work being done during this time period and is quite beautiful. You can change the look depending on the hue you wear under the netting. Excellent condition.
Unlined and closes with a side painted metal and nylon zipper. One shoulder snaps to close with net covered snaps. I have photoed it over a 1930s pink silk slip that I am happy to include if you wish to have it. Hand finished and all the bead work is hand done. There may be the occasional bead missing but it presents perfectly with no outstanding issues! Carefully stored.

This is a very special set from Yves Saint Laurent and it is also very beautiful. It really illustrates his genius in working with fine silks. It is two pieces and each is made of the same custom screened, floral print silk chiffon and everything about it is spectacular. The top can be worn un-tucked so you get a loose caftan feel or tuck it in for more a more shaped effect. The top has a wide panel of fabric that falls from the shoulders and circles all the way around. This same wide ruffled effect is picked up again on the lower tier of the skirt. The entire shoulder is finished with elastic so you can wear it a variety of ways - on or off the shoulder and I have even seen girls style this type of top as a one shoulder as it will totally allow you to get away with it! The skirt flows to the ground in a beautiful cascade of silk and it is cut loose and easy so it very easy to wear. It has a very romantic, hippie chic goddess feel and yet is sophisticated and refined at the same time - classic YSL genius! I love it! Excellent, appears unworn condition.
Both pieces are unlined and slip on. The waist of the skirt and shoulders of the top have elastic. Tagged a 38 but please check measurements. The silk is cut on the bias and meant to drape so the measurements are quite generous when off.

A dramatic and beautiful silk jersey gown by the great Bill Blass. The gown itself is already jaw dropping but then in typical Blass style he further ups the ante with the addition of 5" wide sable cuffs! The dress is made of a cream jersey that drapes beautifully. It has a definitive nod to the 30s in its cut but he has exaggerated some elements to make it thoughourly modern and seventies couture feeling! It gathers up and over the bodice in hand set soft pleats. The tie is long and attached so you can cinch in for shape as much as you desire. The skirt falls on a perfect sheath to the floor. The sleeves are of course the showstopper. Each widens as it nears the cuff and the fur edging helps hold the wide bell shape, They are each a full 20" around! Excellent condition.
Lined through the bodice in a silky rayon with the sleeves and skirt left unlined. The cuffs are hand stitched into place as is the zipper. Closes with a hidden set zipper and has a waist stay inside.

This coat is so utterly fabulous it almost pains me to let it go. To have the opportunity to be able to have a piece of true Haute Couture at this price is just amazing! Made of a wool and silk mix that has a slight raised window panel design that gives it a beautiful boucle texture. It buttons with little metal and enamel buttons and has a combination of a tie belt and elastic worked in at the waist so you get some shape and definition. The collar is perfectly pointed and the two little pockets high on the bodice are just absolutely chic. It is completely lined in silk and the workmanship is perfection - all hand work and hand stitched. I really cannot go on about it enough and you will truly be thrilled when it arrives! Numbered under the tag 3716.2.73 and in excellent, appears unworn condition. Freshly cleaned as all our garments are!
Fully lined in a hand set, fine grade off white silk. Hand finished and constructed. Closes with enamel and metal buttons. Original tie belt. Silk lined hidden buttons along hip seam. This is an incredible Thea Porter Couture gown! Thea always began with the fabric when she designed and loved choosing fabrics that became a part of the design itself whether by texture, color or design. For this particular dress the lace she used is set in long vertical panels and she has used this as a design element. In the skirt for example the lace is places vertically but since the skirt is so very full it ends up creating an angled line that gives both visual interest to the piece but also the illusion of greater height and length to the wearer. The sleeves are very full and just below the elbow and the front cut in a square neckline. I have seen versions of this gown in a more rounded neckline but I prefer this shape as it balance the gown better. I love the little floret and diamond designs worked into the lace. It is an incredibly beautiful piece and very romantic. It would certainly be suitable for an evening occasion or even a less formal wedding! Excellent condition.

A beautiful and regal gown by Oscar de la Renta in a classic combination of a rich chocolate with a black velvet. I love how the bodice is cut so that it is sleek and fitted, yet the front plunges low and wide enough across the bust and shoulders that there is this refined sexiness about it. The sleeves are cut long and slim. A banded gathered waist sash gives definition and shape and really emphasizes that beautifully cut bust line. The skirt is cut full with its own interior silk and tulle lining to retain that stunning shape. Peeking under the hem is a band of black velvet, the kind of perfect finishing detail you would expect from Oscar de la Renta. Excellent, appears unworn condition.

Shockingly fabulous is what you think when you see this Yves Saint Laurent maxi dress! I love the simplicity of the cut that allows the brilliant floral print to shine. Made of a simple silk crepe fabric, it is cut masterfully with an unusual seaming just under the shoulders and pretty sleeves that have just a touch of pouf above their snapped cuffs. The body is cut long and lean and gently widens as it nears the floor. This creates this beautiful, simple silhouette that is very flattering. The base is a black which allows the brilliance of the large blossoms to pop against it. Absolutely fabulous and a brilliant example of Yves' work! Excellent condition.

Every Ossie Clark dress is special but when it's an Ossie done with a Celia Birtwell print, it is even more so. Most pieces done in this particular cut were made from his signature moss crepe fabric, but this one is a rarer silk chiffon done through the body with a moss crepe collar and tie. The simple classic lines of this dress made it a best seller and its still a favorite of collectors now. It was primarily made in solid colors or printed moss crepes in its day. Its appeal lies in that fact that you just slip it on and the deep decolletage combined with the easy to adjust tie make it instantly flattering on just about any figure. It is one of the most iconic of his designs and is instantly recognizable as an Ossie Clark! Truly a special piece and taken up a notch with the use of the silk chiffon and pretty Celia Birtwell print. I love the classic billowing sleeves and easy feel to it. Excellent condition and highly collectible.

This 1972 dress is the black version of the one peeking above Halston's shoulder in the picture included in this listing. These long silk knit shirt dresses were a Halston staple and were designed for that chic modern woman to wear while entertaining at home or in an intimate setting. The wearer was able to move and be superbly comfortable, never worrying about getting wrinkled or being inappropriate or uncomfortable. Because of their body hugging fabric and buttons set close to the edge of the seam they are insanely sexy and suggest that with a few quick movements the wearer could be standing au natural, with her dress puddled on the floor! These was his signature piece and every chic woman had to have one. It was meant to be a maxi dress and works wonderfully as a dress of course, but please buy knowing you could also use it as a light layering coat as it does unbutton all the way open! The black is so classic and timeless. Versatile and beautiful, it is an amazing and rare piece of fashion history and is in excellent condition.

Heart breakingly simple and beautiful, this plate 1960s, early 1970s pink silk Hanae Mori gown is just an absolute work of art. It has her signature east meets west feel with its couture construction techniques and Japenese influenced design. She was the only Japanese woman haute couture designer to be admitted to La Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne and she infused her designs with this mix of elements. This gown is an absolute wonderful example of that. I love how the body of the gown is a simple sheath that belies its hidden construction underneath. The entire inner bodice is corseted and made to hug the wearer and hold the dress in place. Yet from the exterior you see not a ripple to the silk to give a hint of this. The pink is bold and the print is her trademark blossoms. The back is finished with a trail of silk chiffon screened in the same custom floral design and adds lightness and airiness to the structure of the gown's shape. Made for I Magnin and almost certainly a custom ordered piece. It is astonishingly beautiful and feels shockingly fresh and forward. Even more beautiful in person and the photos cannot convey the quality and feel of the high grade silk! Excellent condition
Fully lined in silk detailed with the Hanae Mori name. It has a fully built in corset that closes with its own independent zipper. A second zipper closes the exterior. The silk chiffon panel of fabric hides all of this and snaps into place with fabric covered snaps that are set inside and below the edge of the back seam. The corset is boned and has an inner waist stay. Hand finished throughout the interior and a weighted hem. Tagged a vintage 10

Arnold Scaasi did exquisite work and as time passes I feel his designs are coming to be appreciated by a new audience. His work is for when you want to have all eyes on you. He worked under the great Charles James at the beginning of his career as a designer and you can see that influence in his later ball gowns. He cut and created his designs to extremely high standards and the workmanship is fabulous. This gown combines a brilliant deep royal blue with gold. The gold fabric is incredible. It is a quilted gold silk lame that has blue flowers embroidered directly onto it in slightly raised designs. As it nears the hem of the ball gown skirt the design also incorporates trailing vines. The entire edge of the skirt is finished by embroidery and with a rounded scalloped edge. The strapless bodice is a brilliant blue velvet. The jacket is lined in the finest of silk, dyed the same blue as the gowns bodice and each cuff ends in a wide sable cuff. The jacket is fitted with capped shoulders. It is equally as stunning with pr without the jacket and a true statement piece. Scaasi dressed actresses, socialites and first ladies and you can see why in this dramatic ballgown! Love that you can style the jacket separate and even with jeans! Excellent condition.
The gown in fully lined in a blue silk through the bodice and hand finished. It closes with a back, hand set painted metal zipper. The bodice is boned. The skirt is lined with an inner silk layer (the hip measurement is based on this layer ) and there is a layer of tule between this and the exterior. The jacket is fully lined in a fine, high end silk and is hand finished. It closes with fabric covered buttons as shown.

The cut of this coat reminds me of the coats that Celine did this season - very lean and long with strong shoulders. The fabric has a distinctive ribbed effect that softens the bold lines and gives it length and leanness. I love how the leather belt creates a strong contrast and some shape and the buttons pick that up as well. It has squared off shoulders and an almost manly cut. One could easily picture the 80s supermodels stomping down the runway in a coat like this! Excellent, appears unworn condition!

A fabulous Yves Saint Laurent dress made of a classic black crepe. The cut has a definitive nod tot hr forties with strong shoulder that are created mainly by the cut of them rather then heavy padding and that forties silhouette. However, in all things Yves the start point is just a reference and it becomes undeniably Yves with all its smoky sexiness. The entire middle part of the dress is elasticized so is very easy to wear. Detailing this elastic are rows of glossy black sequins that start just under the low plunging bust and go down to below the hip. This makes the dress hug the wearer's curves but keeps it easy to move in. The skirt is full under the last row. Its amazing! Excellent condition

A museum quality, amazing 1970s silk chiffon, iconic and instantly recognizable, caftan by Hanae Mori. This is everything you look for in a Hanae piece. It has her spectacular custom designed print on feather light silk chiffon and this print is a beautiful brid scene with herons and other birds under the sun and amongst reads and water. The cut has that draped, goddess, flowing feel to it that collectors crave when they look for the best of Hanae's pieces. This is couture on the highest level with everything about the piece done to work with the rest. The inner dress is made of a scarf weight silk and is a simple sheath dress with a easy cut. Over this a floating caftan of printed chiffon wraps and snaps at the neck. Huge "sleeves" are formed by the openings at the sides and each side goes right to the floor. An amazing, once in a life-time find! Excellent, museum quality condition
The inner silk slip dress serves as the lining. It slips on tot wear. It could easily be adjusted for a smaller girl or subbed out for a larger. The caftan overlay closes at the neck with fabric covered snaps. The original owner removed the Hanae tag but her made in Japan signature tag is still present and it is guaranteed Hanae Mori. The slip dress shows some change to color here and there but it presents perfectly once under the overlay. The color is best shown in the close up of the labels

From the estate of a former model who was fast friends with Galanos and had most of her pieces from him made specifically for her so each is a rare and wonderful creation! I absolutely love the drama and high couture feel of this particular dress. If I had to bet I would guess that this dress was specifically asked to be constructed as a more modern version of his 1959 "Theatre Dress" photoed for Vogue (pictured). That same feel is there. A yard of material was used on the sleeves on the 1959 version and I would hazard that this is true of this one as well! They are an elaborate construction with a stiffening material worked in betweent he layers so that they retain that amazing shape! The body is entirely boas cut and the front a simple sheath that molds itself around the body underneath. The back is gathered along either side of the zipper and continues down the back seam to just under the butt so you get a molded and sexy feel. The skirt trains out from there and is longer on the back then the front. The silk and silk organza used are very light so it feel like wearing air once on. Supermodel length. It's amazing and in excellent , museum quality condition.

An amazing and extremely rare set from Halston that is from the 1971 collection. Both pieces are done in a stunning purple silk jersey. The dress is made of a double layer of this fabric and the evening coat a single layer. One of Halston's signatures was how to construct pieces with the absolute minimal seaming and this is a stunning example of how he executed that ideal. The simplicity of the pieces do not disguise the absolute genius behind them. The dress hooks behind the neck and then falls to the floor in a a draped column of jersey that gradually widens as it nears the hem. The back dips dangerously low and the fabric clings as is skims over the body. It is extremely sexy, as it was meant to be! The matching evening cape is an dramatic and extravagant feast for the eye! It is cut to train far past the hem of the gown. It has a single hook & eye at the neck and then cascades ot the ground. The fabric was all cut form a single bolt and there are no seams through the body of the coat until you near the hem and then a rounded finish piece is added to create the edging. The sleeves are kept slim to balance all that beautiful fabric. This is a rare opportunity to have one of the most dramatic pieces of Halston I have ever seen! Museum worthy.
The gown is a double layer of the same fabric and the evening coat a single layer. The dress has a single hook & eye at the back of the neck and the coat a single hook & eye at the neck. There is fading across the top of the shoulders - it would be possible to recut this slightly to eliminate this but its been left entirely original. One tiny stitch repair on one sleeve of the coat. None of these detract due to the rarity of this set and it is priced accordingly.

A beautiful gown from Givenchy is a perfect mix of velvet, netting and dramatic feathers! The cut of the gown is meant to skim over the body and the velvet gives it a sensual, sexy feel. The bust is highlighted by that insanely fabulous line of glossy black feathers, which is used again at each cuff. The shoulders and sleeves are a semi-transparent black silk net that has little rhinestones scattered across it. I love the little keyhole created at the back between the neck and the top of the feather border. Wonderful and glamourous! Excellent condition.
Fully lined in a handset, black silk. It closes with a back hidden set zipper. Each cuff has hidden snaps. The rhinestones are fused to the net and all seem present as do all the feathers

This is an incredible late twenties, early thirties gown made entirely of a fine, fine black silk net that has been pin-tuck pleated to form the lines and pattern that you see. It is entirely cut on the bias so has that incredible drape and stretch that gowns from this period have. It is incredibly sexy - the lines formed by the pleats accent and highlight the curves of the body. The front and back dip to low V's and the dress hugs your curves to just past the hip. The skirts below the hip are actually quite full - I love how the density of the net looks different from the use of the lines. It is semi-sheer so you can change the feel and look by what you choose to wear underneath. An incredible early gown, very rare and very special! Excellent condition
Unlined and closes with a series of snaps and hook & eye at the side waist. A snap sits at each wrist as well.
Note that antique and twenties pieces are final sale. They will be packed exceedingly well and we only sell pieces that will stand up to the stress of shipping, however, having pieces potentially shipped multiple times through multiple customs and countries is too hard on garments that are historically important and deserve to be treated with love and care. Please purchase accordingly.

We love Hanae Mori here and this silk caftan with its beaded rows from shoulder to hem is a beauty! A semi-sheer silk has a dramatic and colorful pattern screened onto it. I love how she left the shoulders a white color and then used a red to anchor the rest of the piece. Pops of color in graphic shapes adorn the body. Over this are rows of tube beads that give the entire caftan a bit of glitz and glam. The cut is loose and easy and yet is is still sexy. Excellent condition.
Unlined and slips on to wear. It closes at the back neck. Perhaps a bead or two missing here or there but no bare areas. One teeny repair to the silk near the shoulder

This is a rare and amazing hand painted silk caftan gown by the great Zandra Rhodes from her 1976 collection Cactus and Cowboys. It is constructed of a fine silk chiffon that is entirely hand painted. The top is cut loose and full and dips dramatically low in the front and hand applied enamel flower sequins adorn the front. The waist is a gathered elastic band and that flows to the floor over a separate inner skirting. The print is entirely done by hand and inspired by Zandra's trip to Colorado in 1975. She did her entire collection based on Cactus's and cowboys. This is the Cactus Everywhere print. I love the dramatic butterfly sleeves! Examples of this print reside in major museums and it is an important, desired piece for collectors. It has some small flaws that I detail below bit present perfectly and is wearable. Overall excellent condition for such a collectible and rare item.
Fully lined in silk chiffon through the bodice and a white silk though the skirt. The dress has an elastic waist and slips on to wear. There is a well done repair to the fabric in the skirt about 8 inches down from the waist - super size to see please. There is another repair along the hem on the right side - there is tons of fabric here so it is concealed very well but it does dip up just a touch here if you see it laying flat. On the inside lining there are some minor tears but this is not seen when on. In the photos you will see a couple of the flowers missing from the front. I will steal a couple form the back and replace the front ones so its perfect before sending! No label inside the dress

Insanely fabulous Dior coat with the feel of the fifties but it is really a play on that from the seventies! A vertically quilted silk is done in the signature Dior floral print. I love the extra texture that quilting it has given it! Each side has a high slit which really allows the coat to move around you. The sleeves are cut to just past the elbow and each is trimmed with a dyed shave beaver fur that is extremely soft to touch! The collar has this same detailing of fur trim. It closes just at the very top with large glossy black buttons and loops. The sleeves are cut a touch wide and stay that way until they cuff. Really extraordinary and a fabulous and beautiful piece! Excellent condition.
This coat has been purchased by Rihanna!
Fully lined in a stretch cotton that is almost like a heavy Tshirt fabric. It is also quilted. Closes with the buttons at the front. Its light weight but fairly warm. Not full on winter coat but perfect for cool evenings. Meant to fit fairly easy - the mannequin is a size 6 and it is not pinned on her.

An incredible coat from the Fall 1993 collection that was featured in the ad campaign shot by Helmut Newton and modeled by Nelly Schamey. This twin of that coat is in exceptional condition and right on trend with this season's over-sized look with its full cut! The exterior is a stunning silk brocade that has both print and texture running through it. I love the shots of blue in the design! - it is so unexpected and really makes the design pop! The inside collar and cuffs are lined with a rich burgundy velvet and all the seams are piped in his signature gold braid piping. Even the buttons are special - they are little domed open filigree buttons over a black base! Stunning and in excellent condition.
Fully lined in a fine, burgundy silk and closes at the front with buttons. Cleeves can be cuffed or left down. Fairly light weight - its an evening coat not a full winter coat. Hidden pockets along the side seams. Tagged a 34 - Meant to be worn over-sized so truly a SML, however it will fit a MED easily

An incredible cocktail dress by James Galanos that has wonderfully sculptural feel to it combined with dramatic volume. The fabric is the perfect start point - it is a silk brocade that has a checked pattern created by the combination of matte black threads woven with a glossy metallic thread. This gives the dress a fabulous quality as the light plays on the two textures. It is cut very rounded through the shoulders and the sleeves are also cut on a slight curve. The front appears to cross over itself and close with a double row of extravagant bead and rhinestone encrusted buttons. It has an almost tuxedo effect front but it does not actually open here. Each side is caught up with a small braided cord detailing. The front it cut flat and slim but beginning at the side cording the dress opens and flares out with soft pleats worked in very subtly to give that volume. The back is cut in an almost couture tented shape. It is just remarkable and feel very couture and edgy even against today's standards! Excellent, appears unworn condition!
Fully lined in hand set silk taffeta and closes with a back painted metal zipper. Hidden pockets along the front.

This couture quality constructed cocktail dress that it is elaborately beaded and sequined by hand. The color is a pale silver grey and a fine silk net is set over an interior nude lining. This has then been shaped around the hips by gathered stripes of net that are connected by rows of crossed bead work. Near the hem these are attached only at the top of the row so that they create little flares of net on the last three layers. The top is stunning with flowers created out of tiny beads and sequins. It is all suspended by delicate little sequin encrusted straps! Really exceptional and very beautiful Excellent condition
Fully lined in a nude silk crepe that is completely hand set. Closes with a side set, hidden zipper. A teeny bit of the seed beads are missing on one strap. The coor is best shown in the label picture but it is a tad softer in real life. Hard to capture but very beautiful!

A phenomenal gown by Bob Mackie who is best known for dressing Cher and for his love of opulence and bead work! He worked for both Edith Head and Jean Louis and I think he secretly always designed for the big screen and the bygone glamor of Hollywood. His work always is over the top and extravagant. This is an amazing silk chiffon gown in delicious shades of pastel silks layered over each other through the skirt and gathered by hand and tacked into soft pleats through the bust. Soft pink, creams, mints and palest lavender all work together beautifully. It would no be a Bob Mackie with some glitz and the neckline give that full on!Beads, rhinestones and sequins are heavily applied to highlight each shoulder and go down and across the bust. Each shoulder also has epithets of danging strings of beads and pearls! The bodice and shoulders are very structured and molded. It feels like couture on!. Extremely well made and in excellent condition

This is an amazing and dramatic gown by Claude Montana. Montana designed for strong woman and his pieces always pushed the envelope and defined the female form as he wished it to be. This strapless gown has a defined bust that has silver plastic and metal piping - a signature Montana detailing. The inner dress is a sleek sheath of jersey that has stretch but is not fluid - it is just thick enough to define shape but not so think as to be heavy or uncomfortable - he creates structure with it while still allowing the body to be able to move freely - this was cutting edge fabric in the late 80s and early 90s - Tom Ford also used a version in some of his early Gucci collections. It' almost a jersey version of the infamous bandage dresses of the time - it holds you in but stretches where you need it. His girls wore pieces that heightened the sexuality aspect with figure hugging curves. The side trains are all Montana - The trail on each side far past the hem and give the dress a formal gown feeling while still being edgy and dangerous!. A real collectible and in excellent condition!
Fully lined in a black silky rayon and the bust has alight boning and an additional lining of the same jersey as the body of the dress. Closes with a back hidden set zipper. There is one 1/4" section of the metal & plastic detailing on the bust that is missing at the very back. It is not something that is very noticeable and does not detract. Tagged a size 40

This is the same jacket as shown in Look 19 of the Fall 2008 McQueen show and it spectacular! On the runway it was styled with a huge skirt and high collared white shirt. A deep navy supports the Military feel of this piece. It is cut with the precision one excepts from McQueen and has exceptional enamel buttons at the front and shoulders. I love the nipped in waist and peplum feel to the hips. The sleeves are cut in the old proper manner and are curved. The lapels are folded over and like a 17th century mans dress jacket. This season was considered one of his finest and Sarah Mower of style.com had this to say of this collection:
The one element that has gone missing in the collections is the spine-tingling, eye-welling emotion of a show so exceptional to witness that—despite all exhaustion, cynicism, and workaday pressures—it suddenly transforms being involved in fashion into a magical privilege. Just when it seemed like that feeling was virtually extinct, Alexander McQueen handed his audience a self-imagined fantasy of crinolined princesses and British-colonial romance of such beauty, it arguably surpassed anything he's achieved in 14 years.
"I've got a 600-year-old elm tree in my garden," he said, "and I made up this story of a girl who lives in it and comes out of the darkness to meet a prince and become a queen." After a trip to India, the designer worked like a fiend for months in his studio, with images of Queen Victoria, the Duke of Wellington, and the Indian Empire running through his mind. They were transformed into ballerina-length multi-flounced dance dresses, each more insanely exquisite than the last: A miraculous red-feather-fronted number turned to burst into a froth of creamy frills in back; another came covered in baby-fine knitted lace; a third had a pair of peacocks—again fashioned from cutout black lace—with their tail feathers fanning out over ivory tulle petticoats.
Interspersed were rigorously cut military tailcoats with taut pants detailed with military frogging, and slim brocade and cloque pantsuits with crisp white high-necked shirts. Then there was a stately parade of imperial-red and velvet jackets bedecked with millions of dollars' worth of antique Indian diadems and diamond neckpieces, and yet more incredible rich Empire-line saris and wispy dishabille transparencies. These were followed by a sequence of gold-encrusted, ermine-coated glory, echoing the heyday of Norman Hartnell and Hardy Aimes' fifties British couture as worn by Elizabeth II.
Whatever had triggered this new lease of inspired design, it went further than the mere rendition of fanciful costume for the sake of telling a story. Importantly, McQueen finally found it in himself to quash the confining, uptight carapace that had held back former collections, replacing it with a new sense of lightness and femininity. Meanwhile, for all the transporting spectacle and extravagance, the narrative never submerged the sense that, within this wonder, there's plenty to wear, too. No coincidence, then, that McQueen today announced that his company has gone into profit for the first time. It was a day when his brilliance had never shone more brightly.
Made even more poignant and special since we have of course lost him, the genius of McQueen is readily apparent in this spectacular jacket and his spirit and talent lives on through pieces such as this! Excellent condition, this was purchased, stored and never worn.
Fully lined in silk and closes with hand made enamel, metal buttons. Hand finished. Tagged a 42. Note that it is a deep navy - it looks more black in the photos but it is indeed a navy.

This is an amazing take on the iconic Le Smoking jacket first made famous in the 1966 Haute Couture collection. This theme of a tuxedo made for a woman has been played on by the house every decade or so since right up until the current runways. This jacket is particularly fabulous in that it is made of leather mixed with a matte satin collar giving it a slightly edgy feel to the classic lines. The cut is that of the classic Le Smoking jacket with sloped low slung pockets on each hip. Huge braided buttons sit on each cuff and at the base of the collar. A strong shoulder and lean cut give it perfect lines. It is a classic piece that will forever be in style. Excellent condition and it has just been specialty cleaned.
Fully lined in a black silky satin. Closes with the front braided button. The buttons holes on the cuffs not only work but are properly finished.

Looking like it just came straight from the 1990s cat walk comes this iconic multi -colored check dress by New York design phenomenon Todd Oldham. This print hit iconic status when Amber, Linda and Christie were photoed backstage in looks from the S/S collection. Linda Evangelista wore the twin of this dress with a jacket over it down the runway that day! It is instantly recognizable and a very collectible. The dress itself is simply cut in that 90s kind of way - it has a square, high neckline and a tank feel. Seaming curves down the front> its meant to be fairly fitted and the bright pops of color are fantastic! Excellent comndition
