1960s Jean Louis Bead & Embroidery Silk Gown

Jean Louis is the man behind that famous gown that Marylin Monroe wore while singing Happy Birthday Mr President. His was known for his gowns and this one is spectacular. Made out of a heavy gold silk, the fabric was then covered in hand embroidered flowers, each edged in gold beads. The design is raised and the beads heavily applied in a way that each design that covers the dress is highlighted to maximum effect. The seaming is wonderful with the upper bodice formed and curved. It nips in at the waist and then the skirt is cut in a soft curving flare to the ground. The back is cut slightly longer then the front. I love the scooped neckline and the back that dips just a touch lower mimicking the hem. It is hand finished inside and all that work to the spectacular fabric is done by hand. It is museum worthy and quite special. Presents as excellent condition. The photos do not come close to capturing the "glow" it has in person.

Fully lined an hand finishes and set pale golden silk. It closes with a back painted metal zipper. There is one exterior flaw to the dress that I have photoed - this is near the bottom front hem and I actually missed it when purchasing and photoing as once in you do not see it. This could be eliminated by shortening the front slightly or the edges carefully tacked down around it. There is a similar tear inside the lining on the back side which of course is not seen when on. If you would like to me tack it down before sending I will but since it is so rare and valauble I left it as original and just had it specialty cleaned.
