Prettiest 1960s Oscar De La Renta Peach Iridescent Silk Organza Dress w Gold Thread Detailing
I Have a Question
- This dress is from the 1960s Oscar de la Renta boutique label
- It was made under the creative direction of Oscar de la Renta.
- The Oscar de La Renta boutique label first appeared in 1967. His boutique label is important as it is know for being the first ready-to-wear line for a Seventh Avenue designer to be launched. These early pieces have lots of hand finishes and are just stunning examples of his work during these early days of his career.
- The dress is made out of a soft peach silk organza that has an iridescent quality to it and it has an almost crisp feel because of the metallic gold thread added to the fabric. The mix of the iridescent and gold shimmer softly in the light.
- The organza is shot through with gold thread on specific parts of the dress to highlight the design. Oscar loved this technique during this time period and these pieces always seem to me to have a bit of a mystical eastern allure to them.
- The sleeves are slightly full and are left semi-sheer with no lining. Each snaps to close at the wrist creating a slight puff just above. The cuffs and the sleeve just above the wrist are heavily detailed with the gold thread. Little floral designs are scattered over the rest of the sleeves.
- The collar is notched and completely done in the gold thread and is set in a V. The bodice skims down to the seamed waist. If you wanted more definition you could add a pretty belt.
- The skirt billows out from the waist and a final wide band of gold threading circles the hem. I love the fullness through the skirt and how those little gold floral designs are scattered throughout the whole dress.
- The dress is fully lined in a peach silk and closes with a back zipper. Each cuff closes with hidden silk covered snaps. It appears to have been worn very little if at.

Iconic Spring 2011 Gucci by Frida Giannini Runway Look 41 Burnt Orange Silk Cord, Brass & Feather Dress
I Have a Question
- Note that due to new regulations concerning shipping feathers this dress can only ship to a Canadian or Non-US address. Touch base if you need more information.
- The twin of this piece was Look 41 on the runway for Spring 2011.
- It was made under the creative direction of Frida Giannini.
- This is one of the instantly recognizable and well-known Gucci dresses. It was worn and shot for countless editorials and worn on the red carpet. We have attached many examples here and there are probably more.
- The dress is an incredible achievement and shows just how high-end and detailed ready-to-wear can be at the hands of a heritage label. It verges on Couture.
- A burnt orange silk is covered with a multitude of textures and materials. It is cut across at the front with a bib feeling extension that ties up and around the neck. A silk cord is how it ties in place and this ends in silk tassels at the front. The bib is finished with orange tinted acrylic pieces that top metal beading, glass beading and little muted brass metal pieces along with prong-set rhinestones. On the outer sides of the cording is a row of brass pieces shaped to represent feathers and these curve like jewellery along each side.
- The body of the dress has a panel down the front and back made up of horizontal set silk cording that is held in place by brass open beads that the silk slips through. The sides of the dress have more of that same mix of materials that the bib on the neck does and then the lower portion of the sides are finished with a combination of hand-dyed feathers and brass pieces mixed in between the rows.
- The work goes all the way around to the back and the dress does have some weight because of the work on it but it feels balanced and easy to wear once on.
- The shape is very flattering and it skims over you coming in slightly at the waist and curving around the hips. Depending on your height it is going to sit just above the knee or to the knee.
- This is a very rare and pristine example of one of the most famous dresses that Frida created during her time at Gucci.
- It is fully lined in a matching coloured silk and there is a built-in lightly boned corset piece attached through the top. It closes offset at the back with a zipper that has Gucci engraved on a zipper pull and then the inner corset closes with its own zipper. There is the tiniest bit of grubbiness along the inner upper bodice.
- There is no size tag present so please go by the listed measurements below.

Exceptional 1970s Roland Klein Metallic Silver Lame Pleated Fan Dress w Completely Open Bare Back
I Have a Question
- The dress dates to the 1970s and this is one of those things that you will only ever find in vintage. It is a remarkable vintage piece.
- It was made under the creative direction of Roland Klein.
- One of Klien's greatest claimed to fame was that he was one of the handful of designers that worked with Princess Diana.
- The dress is made out of a bright metallic silver lame that has a touch of structure that allows it to hold both its shape and those amazing pleats that run over the entire dress.
- The front part of the bodice is done in a series of angled knife pleating. This is shaped to have the feeling and shape of a fan on each side from shoulder to waist. In between the two side sides it plunges all the way to the waist and a small panel of the silver fabric covers the seam where the two panels meet at the waist.
- Underneath the outer panels of fabric are simple triangle shaped inner halters that keep you covered and holds everything in place. Ties extend out from the top to tie behind the neck.
- With only the two triangles at the front of the dress the entire back is subsequently left completely open and bare.
- The waist has elastic all the way around so it is incredibly easy to fit and very comfortable to wear.
- Under that is the skirt and the skirt is equally as phenomenal as the top. It is knife pleated into sharp pleats that run from the waist to the hem. There is an incredible amount of fabric in the skirt and when you lay out flat, it is more than a full circle around. This allows the skirt to flare out as it reaches the hem and really balance out the bodice.
- The fabric is ultra light in weight and between that and the pleats this has fantastic movement once it is on the body and you are moving.
- The dress is unlined and slips on wear with an elastic waist. It ties behind the back of the neck. The easy fit should allow it to work on a range of sizes. I see one tiny pinhole in a pleat on the skirt.
- Excellent condition
Bust: each triangle under the fan covers to 7.5" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: 11-20" flat across from side seam to side seam
Hips: open
Bodice: approx 15" from neck to waist and adjustable with the tie
Total length: 60" from neck to hem and can be adjusted up or down an inch or two depending on how you tie it at the back of the neck.

Outstanding Fall 2010 Alexander McQueen Gray Scale Print Silk Dress w Caped Sleeves & Trained Skirt
I Have a Question
- This is an outstanding production dress from the Pre-Fall 2010 collection.
- It was made under the creative direction of Alexander McQueen.
- At first glance it feels very much in line with what he was doing for 2007 with his castle /fairy prints. For Pre-Fall he visited upon graphic black and grey-scale prints once again. This dress looks to be a variation on a pink printed dress that he did for the Pre-fall 2010 collection. I love the change in the upper bodice on this one from the pink with its caped shoulders.
- We did find a photo from the 2010 look book that shows a shorter similar version of the dress. Just to give you an idea of how the top especially will fit once on the body.
- The dress is made out of a beautifully weighted silk that he loved to use because it gave him the drape and fluidity that he wanted his pieces to have.
- The shoulders of the dress are padded with thicker rounded pads hidden inside. Falling from there and extending around to the back is a beautiful caped panel that drapes over the top of your arms and then folds up and under itself to create the draping around and down the back. He used a double layer of the silk for this panel so that when you move you see the pattern underneath. It is these exacting small details that always make a McQueen piece stand out.
- The front neck line is set in a draping cowl that sits over an inner V. The dress skims over the bust and waist and then widens out to curve over the hips.
- Yards and yards of fabric have been used to construct the skirt. It is set into the body of the dress on a curving seam that is beautiful. He often use these curving and angled seams that are throwback to Couture pieces of the 1920s and 30s and here he has used it beautifully. The silk in the skirt is all cut on the bias. The back trails out longer behind you and all of this adds up to spectacular movement around you when you move.
- This is a truly outstanding McQueen dress.
- The dress is fully lined in a black silk and closes with a hidden set partial mid-set zipper at the back whose placement is again a nod to the Couture pieces of the 20s and 30s. The shoulders are padded. It appears to have been worn very little if at all

Fantastic 1990s Gianni Versace Metallic Silver Stretch Jersey Dress w Front Plunge & Long Tie
I Have a Question
- The dress dates to the late 1990s-early 2000s time period of the Versace label.
- It was made under the creative direction of Gianni Versace.
- The dress is made out of of a fabulous metallic silver stretch lame that makes it incredibly easy to wear and fit.
- On the bodice wide panels curve up and over the shoulders. The shoulders are cut wide and sloped so that they sit slightly off the shoulder. There is a bit of padding underneath to hold the shape correctly on your shoulder.
- The front plunges all the way down to the waist. I love how the way the bodice is constructed. It looks like it has all been flung over your shoulders and ties into place at the waist. It looks effortless but this is actually all achieved by the way it is seamed and set.
- Where it meets at the front there is attached tie that loops over itself to create the suggestion of a knot and then that falls all the way down the front.
- The skirt curves out over the hips and the entire upper portion of the skirt at the front has been gathered into the centre seam. From the hem up to the base of all of the gathers is a high slit that allows a flash of leg when you walk or move.
- The silver catches the light from every angle to give it a liquid affect over the body and the stretch of the fabric makes it very comfortable, easy to wear and fit.
- The dress is unlined and slips on with an elastic waist. There is light padding in each shoulder. The stretch should allow it to fit ranger sizes. It appears to have been worn very little if at all.

Fall 1989 Oscar de la Renta Iridescent Green Gold Silk Chiffon Strapless Dress w Matching Cape
I Have a Question
- The twin of this dress was shown on the runway for the Fall 1989 collection.
- It was made under the creative direction of Oscar de la Renta.
- This dress beautifully showcases the genius of Oscar de la Renta and the work that he was doing in this time period. The dress has a beautiful elegance to it and is quite striking.
- This sense of refinement is a constant in Oscar's work and I particularly love the earlier examples of it. You can see how many of the elements in this dress are a reflection of the standards he adhered to for his entire career and body of work.
- This dress is also interesting because I have had a blue version, very similar to this, from Spring 1990. He must have loved this dress so much that he tweaked and repeated the design for the next season.
- The dress is made from multiple layers of a lightweight iridescent silk chiffon in the most stunning deep green gold colour. The iridescent quality of the colour in person allows it to change and shimmer in the light. It is an extremely beautiful fabric choice.
- The bodice has an elaborate gathering of silk over it that crosses over itself into one side of the waist. This is also the point where a panel of silk extends from the back to hook into place so there is one unbroken line all the way around your waistline.
- It is strapless and the neckline is cut into a rounded sweetheart shape that is very flattering. The bodice is fitted and shaped. It cinches in at the waist with light interior side boning to help hold the shape.
- The skirt cascades to the floor and at the front it wraps over itself and curves up and into that side point of the waist. The draping that it creates down the side is stunning.
- The skirt is made up of three layers of weightless silk chiffon and this lets the skirt float over and around the body to give it the feel of airiness and lightness. The lightness of the silk gives it a gorgeous movement when you move and walk.
- It comes with a matching huge silk chiffon shawl / cape piece. It has a tiny silk covered button and loop at the neck to hold it in place and then it simply floats over your shoulders and let billow out around you. I love that you can wear it flung over both shoulders, fully down the front for more coverage or with just one side flung over a shoulder.
- It is incredibly beautiful and it moves like a dream once on.
- The dress is fully lined through the bodice in a hand set matching silk and the three layers of silk chiffon the skirt is made of serve as its lining. The dress closes with a back zipper. Hand finishes.

halston
Fall 1979 Halston Runway Olive Brown & Deep Metallic Gold Leopard Print Bias Cut Dress w Belt
I Have a Question
- The twin of this dress walked the runway for the Fall 1979 collection.
- It was made under the creative direction of Roy Halston.
- I have seen this dress made in only three colour ways to date and with this one have now had all three on the shop; this deep green, gold and brown version, a blue and gold, and a version that has a lighter green and gold combination.
- The dress is from his main couture line and these would have been made-to-order in his workshop during this time period.
- Halston defined how woman dressed in the 1970s and his dresses in particular were tremendously flattering to the body.
- This is an amazing couture Halston dress and a very rare and special find.
- It is feather light and you are barely conscious of wearing anything. The fabric is a very fine light gold, light brown and green silk lurex lame that moves and drapes beautifully.
- It is entirely cut on the bias above and below the elastic waist and utilizes his signature minimal seaming.
- The neckline is scooped and there is a little keyhole at the back below the hook there. The sleeves extend out from the waist with no seam around the arm and then they narrow down to their ends. This leaves the bodice loose and generous over you.
- There is elastic set around the waist so it is very easy to fit. The dress also comes with its original matching tie belt in the same fabric. The belt is shaped more like a cummerbund with a wider panel that extends into smaller ties on each side. This lets you wrap and shape it around you and cinch in the waist much as you wish. You can leave the ties at the front or the back.
- The skirt falls from there and slightly widens out as it nears the hem and there are pockets on each hip.
- This is a rare example of Halston at his very best and is a rare example of when he chose to use a print over a solid colour.
- The is unlined and slips on with an elastic waist. It hooks at the back of the neck above a keyhole. It comes with its original belt and is hand finished throughout. Its easy fit should allow it to work for range of sizing.
- There is no size tag present so please go by the measurements listed below
- Excellent condition

guy laroche
Incredible Fall 1994 Guy Laroche Haute Couture Runway Silk Hi Low Dress w Silk Chiffon Sleeves
I Have a Question
- The near twin of this dress walked the Haute Couture runway for the Fall 1994 Guy Laroche collection.
- It was made under the creative direction of Michel Klein.
- It would have been made entirely by hand in the Paris atelier.
- Michel Klein took over the couture division in 1993 after Laroche's death and remained until 1996.
- The dress is made out of a very high-quality beautiful silk that mixes three colours; a deep blue, a soft olive and a pale taupe.
- The dress part is mini in length with a wide, scooped neck line that sits to the edge of the shoulders, leaving the collar bones exposed. It's softly shaped over the body comes in at the waist under the attached band there, and then curves back out and over the hips.
- A panel of all of silk is attached starting at each side and curving around to the back. This partial skirt falls in a long smooth drape of fabric and add movement when you move.
- At waist is defined with a wide deep blue, almost black, silk band that is cut wide and wraps all the way around you. At one and it narrows down and hooks into place under a long swooping gold brooch which I believe is gold plated.
- The sleeves are spectacular. They are made out of a feather light silk chiffon that is in that same blue, almost black, colour. They are cut extra long and are very wide and full. They fall at an angle to extend past the wrist.
- I love the softness and transparency the sleeves have. It is the perfect contrast to the silk of the rest of the dress.
- It is a very unusual and uniquely gorgeous dress that feels thoroughly couture.
- The dress is fully lined in hand set silk that matches the colours of the exterior silks and the sleeves are unlined. The dress closes with a hand set hidden back zipper and there is a second zipper on the inner skirt. The band at the waist wraps and hooks into place. The brooch is detachable and shows a sight patina. The proper Haute Couture label is present. The inner silk of the long skirt is scuffed near the hem and I see slight grubbiness along the hem on parts. Please see the shot after the label photo.
- There is no size tag present because it is true Couture.

Spectacular Spring 2005 Oscar de la Renta Runway Look 53 Strapless Deep Pink Silk Dress w Full Skirts
I Have a Question
- The near twin of this dress walked the Spring 2005 ODLR runway for Look 53.
- It was made under the creative direction of Oscar de la Renta.
- I love having video and the reference photos however I do want to point out that the skirt on this dress is slightly different than the one that walked the runway. It falls longer and is swept up slightly to one side. I think after the runway, they reconfigured the skirt slightly and it is far better on this dress than what you see in the runway photos and video.
- Vogue said that his collections "are a delight to the eye: flawlessly executed, poised, and urbane with just the right balance of mature charm and youthful exuberance" and this dress in particular was noted when they said "When it comes to evening wear no one knows more about giving women what they want... a cooly elegant strapless dress with an undulating puff skirt? In Oscar's world there's no such thing as the wrong choice."
- The dress is made out of the perfect deep fuchsia pink silk. It is strapless and the neckline curves around and over the bust dipping in the middle. The strapless silhouette leaves your upper back bare and exposed.
- Starting at the waist area the silk is draped from the centre of the back and wraps around the waist and over the top of the hip on either side. It is then gathered over itself at the centre front. I think this detail is beautiful.
- Inside there is a full built-in corset that is cupped, boned and shaped for support.
- The skirt is spectacular. Here you see the genius of Oscar. The skirt has a ton of volume to it that shows best when you move. It is made out of a cascade of silk with a second layer under the top layer. At the front both layers are cut shorter and then sweep and curve around to the back.
- The skirt becomes wider and more full as it nears the hem and at the back it falls longer then the front so that you get this pretty curve from the side view along with a fantastic sweep of skirts from the back. On the runway, this was very symmetrical and shorter but this has that second inner layer that falls lower on the leg and it has a bit more of an asymmetrical feel. It is so much better and more dramatic than how it was shown on the runway in my opinion.
- All of the volume is created by the sheer amount of silk used and the addition of a pink silk organza lining which helps to hold air between the two layers and keep the volume.
- When this is on and you are walking the effect and movement that this creates is absolutely gorgeous. This is Oscar at his very best.
- The dress is fully lined in a matching pink silk organza. The interior corset closes with its own zipper at the back and then a second hidden set zipper closes the dress over that. The inner corset is fully boned and cupped. An attached inner waist stay hooks to close. I see a tiny bit of stress to the seam just under the zipper that is very minor but mentioned for accuracy, and perhaps some grubbiness around the hem, again very minor but mentioned for accuracy.
- There is no size tag present so please go by the measurements listed below.

yves saint laurent
Chic Spring 2008 Yves Saint Laurent by Stefano Pilati Runway Look 35 Deep Fuchsia Pink Silk One Shoulder Dress
I Have a Question
- The twin of this dress was Look 35 on the Spring 2008 Yves Saint Laurent runway for Look 35.
- It was made under the creative direction of Stefano Pilati
- On the runway the dress was worn by Freja and it was also shot on Kate Moss that season.
- Stefani said that he had been thinking of "goddesses and stars" for the evening pieces.
- This was the strongest dress of the collection and I love having all of these reference photos for you because you can see just how beautiful this dress is on the body.
- The dress is made out of a beautifully weighted silk that is cut on the bias. The colour is a deep fuchsia pink. That is a rich and lovely jewel tone.
- The end entire dress falls from one shoulder. The sleeve on that side is kept simple, starting out wide from the body and then narrows at the cuff.
- The front of the dress angles down on a curve and it does the same at the back. It is more fitted through the bust and curves past the waist.
- The bias cut lets it skim over and fall over the hips to highlight your curves.
- The skirt falls from there and is made from seamed panels that give a nod to the thirties in their execution.
- The skirt is very full and that, combined with the bias cut, give this incredible movement as you move. It is an extremely sensual and sexy feeling dress once on.
- I think this was one of the strongest dresses of his entire time at this label.
- The dress is fully lined in a matching pink silk and it closes with a hidden set zipper at the side. It appears to have been worn very little if at all.
- There is no size tag present so please go by the measurements listed below.

Spring 2019 Monique Lhuillier Runway Strapless Bright Pink Net Tulle Dress w Full Multi Tier Skirt
I Have a Question
- The twin of this dress was Look 15 in the Spring Monique Lhuillier presentation.
- It was made under the creative direction of Monique Lhuillier.
- We have included a photo of it on the Dee Hilfiger in between that and the presentation photo, you can see how spectacular this dress is on the body.
- The Lookbook was shot at a picturesque French château and Lhuillier said of the show that she "wanted the clothes to be seen in the place where they might be worn”.
- The bodice is strapless and cut to hug you and shape your curves. The peaks at the front are high and the netted tulle wraps over the bodice with variations in colour to add a bit of interest and depth. Inside it boned and shaped and the back scoops down and around.
- The waist is nipped in and then the skirt explodes out from under that. The skirt is spectacular. It is layers and layers of tulle set on top of each other and cut in different sections to get its elaborate shape.
- Underneath each layer is netting cut to follow the shape above and then that has a wide panel of stiffened netting that goes all the way around you and follows the pattern of the skirt. The back is cut a little longer so that you get a bit of a trailing effect behind you.
- The bodice has a built-in netted and lightly boned corset and the skirt is lined in a pink silk. Layers of netting underneath the tulle as described above. Retailed just over $10k and produced in limited quantities. It appears to have been worn very little if at all.
- Tagged a modern Lhuillier 4.

Etheral Spring 2018 Chanel by Karl Lagerfeld Runway Look 89 Finale Strapless Metallic Silver Dress
I Have a Question
- The twin of this dress walked the runway for Spring 2018 Collection as Look 89.
- It was made under the creative direction of Karl Lagerfeld.
- This was the final closing wedding look of the collection and is an outstanding and rare piece of Chanel history.
- On the runway it was layered underneath a chiffon ruffled top. It works fabulously on its own as well.
-
Lurex threads, crystal jewellery and transparent elements ran throughout the collection. Vogue noted that "the integrate balance between natural looking textures and advanced technical skills, was breathtakingly dynamic to behold." Karl himself noted that all of the fabrics were made by Chanel in-house with "not a fabric here which you can buy elsewhere".
- And indeed the fabric on the dress is extraordinary. It is in almost weightless silk chiffon with multiple shades of ultra fine metallic silver thread woven through the silk into horizontal rows.
- The dress is strapless and inside the bodice there is a full built-in corset to hold the dress in place. The corset has its own zipper to close and is boned all the way around. I love that the lining of that corset has been embossed with various Chanel logos and the Camelia flower.
- At the front the fabric is set in criss cross panels that angle down and over the bodice. It is cut to come in for some shape through the waist and then curves back out over the hips. The angling and overlap of the fabric panels creates an interesting visual detail. At the back he has stacked those same layers in a true horizontal pattern and I love seeing the slight difference from the front and back as you turn.
- The skirt is phenomenal. It curves down and out from underneath the last stacked panel and is set in beautiful ruffled tiers.
- At the front the ruffles sweep up to the centre to leave an expanse of bare leg showing and the ruffles move fantastically around your legs when you move. And at the back they fall to create a beautiful movement behind you.
- In person the dress is a paler, more apparent silver, and it has a real sense of lightness that the photos do not convey.
- A little silver Chanel plaque sits on one hip for the perfect finish.
- The dress is fully lined in a soft silver grey Chanel logo embossed silk through the body of the dress and again for the inner corset. The corset is boned all the way around inside and closes with its own separate zipper. An attached inner waist stay hooks to close. A hidden set back zipper closes over that. Inside the bodice there is a band of a slightly rubberized fabric that goes around the top of the inside bodice to help hold it in place. Beautifully made. The dress appears to have been worn very little if at all.

Easy-to-Wear Spring 2020 Emporio Armani Runway Look 59 Grey Silk Organza Silver Sequin Dress
I Have a Question
- The twin of this dress walked the runway for the Spring 2020 Emporio Armani collection for the Look 59.
- It was made under the creative direction of Giorgio Armani.
- The collection was entitled "Air" and the pieces were soft. The show opened under a projection of a lightly clouded sky, and when the evening pieces walked the runway, it changed to a star filled moonscape. Appropriate given the silvers and greys of the final grouping of dresses. The sequins and paillettes on the dress catch the light beautifully and you can see that in the reference video.
- This was shown as a strapless piece on the runway. The straps that it was sent to the shops with are set inside the upper edge of the bodice so that they could easily be tucked in if you preferred it that way.
- The dress is made out of a textured silk organza that is beautifully light in weight but still has enough structure to hold the shape that you see.
- Onto the silk are little oval paillettes done in different shades of silver and pewter. Each is suspended from the dress by a little hole at their tops and as they progress down the dress they have a little beaded bit so that they hang off of the dress more. At the top of the dress they are so heavily overlapped that they almost stand up and off of the dress and then as they reach the hem they scatter out.
- A grey piping finishes the neckline and that is also what the straps are made out of. From there it skims over the bust and widens out around the waist for a easy to fit feel. It continues to widen out over the hips all the way to the hem.
- These were produced on a very limited basis and that is noted on the tag. It was priced at just over 6K at retail.
- The dress is fully lined in matching grey silky feeling fabric and it closes with a hidden set back zipper. It appears to have been worn very little at all.

roberto cavalli
c 2007 Roberto Cavalli Pale Ballet Pink Pleated Silk Jersey Dress w Front Plunge & Rhinestones
I Have a Question
- Given the closeness in design and many shared elements to the Fall 2007 Cavalli that we had in the shop about a year ago, we believe that this dress is from that same collection.
- It was made under the creative direction of Roberto Cavalli.
- The dress is made from a pale ballet pink coloured silk chiffon and it is detailed with muted bronze-gold crystal rhinestones and metal chains.
- For parts of the design the silk has been softly gathered and softly pleated in a very Grecian type feel and this treatment lets the dress have its beautiful movement when you walk.
- Tiny chiffon straps curved over the shoulders and the bodice crosses over itself in a V at the front. At the back it drops into a low wide V to leave an open expanse of bare skin.
- The sides are detailed with strips of round and rectangular rhinestones mixed with strands of metal block chains. These are placed along a sloping curve at the top of each hip for a pretty added detail. I love that they kept the colour for this added element a more muted copper gold so it softly adds to the softness of the pink rather than sharply contrasts it.
- The skirt is remarkable. It is in its original supermodel uncut length and is absolutely beautiful. A wide panel of soft pleats open up from the centre of the waist at the front. These are set in where the bodice crosses over itself and adds to the detailed feel of the bodice. This panel cascades down to the floor and gives the skirt substantial volume at the front.
- The back of the skirt has extra fabric built in all the way around and is cut to fall longer than the front. When you are standing still you get a long column of silk but then when you move the skirt billows out around you. The fabric is light enough that when you walk it creates this incredible floating sensation.
- I love the sweep that is created by having the back fall longer behind you. It is an incredibly beautiful dress and no matter how good it looks in the photos the sensation and tactile feeling of the fabric and pleat work when you have it on is just phenomenal.
- Fully lined in a matching colour silk. There is a full built-in bodysuit that hooks to close beneath you so that everything is held perfectly in place once the dress is on. It closes with a hidden set side zipper. It appears to have been worn very little if at all.

Fall 2016 Valentino by Pierpaolo Piccioli Nude Pink Net Dress w Scattered Silver Sequin & Beads
I Have a Question
- The twin of this dress that was shown over a nude stretch top and walked the runway for Look 80 in the Fall 2016 collection.
- It was made under the creative direction of Pierpaolo Piccioli.
- It was also featured in an editorial for Marie Claire Spain that season.
- The entire dress is made from a pale nude tulle netting that has just a hint of a pink undertone to it. It is lined in a matching silk so that is so opaque enough to wear. That lining could be removed if you preferred a full transparent feel.
- Scattered over the tulle are silver sequins that each have a tiny clear bead topping the sequin. These catch the light from every angle.
- The dress is suspended from tiny net straps that curve up and over each shoulder. The front scoops across and the upper back is left bare and exposed.
- A ruffled panel of the netting is attached all the way around the neck line and as it curves towards the back it gets wider so that it drapes down the sides and just past the waist at the back. This adds a pretty feminine and airy feel to the dress.
- The waist is seamed to nip in and the skirt is full and easy over the hips. It is very wide and full by the time it reaches the hem. Under the top layer of netting are three additional netted layers. The layer in the middle of those three has a double hem and all of this built in under-skirting helps to hold the volume and give the skirt its structure and shape. A final opaque layer in silk sits against your skin.
- The dress is fully lined in a matching silk and closes with hidden set back zipper. It appears to have been worn very little if at all.

yves saint laurent
Exceptional Fall 1983 Yves Saint Laurent Haute Couture Runway Black Silk Wrap Dress w Bow Detail
I Have a Question
- The twin of this dress walked the runway for the Fall 1983 YSL Haute Couture collection.
- It was made under the creative direction of Yves Saint Laurent.
- The dress would have been completely made by hand in the Paris atelier
- In this collection Yves paid homage to Paris. He told French Vogue that the collection was dedicated to "the prestige of Paris, as I knew it when I first arrived… That is why it reflects many things from my youth, my first sensations when I arrived in Paris from Algeria.". The book Yves Saint Laurent: Catwalk noted that the cuts were loose and offered room to breathe. Pink and black with the two primary colours used for this season and that "the black dresses were chic and cut to perfection".
- This dress is exceptional in person and I feel like the photos are not giving it full justice. The silk is light and weight, and it has far more drape and ease than I think the photos are conveying. It is an absolutely beautiful and chic dress that needs a body to truly come to life.
- The runway photos really give you a better idea of how this dress will look like once on the body.
- The dress is made out of a light weight black silk of exceptional quality.
- The shoulders are lightly shaped and the silk has been gathered up and into the shoulders. The sleeves are cut wider where they are set into the bodice and then narrow to a zippered wrist.
- The dress wraps and snaps at the side to close and there is a built-in inner waist stay to hold it perfectly in place. This is one of his signature designs and allows the drape that you see while letting the dress stay secure. It also allows the bodice to drape beautifully over you.
- The wrap of the dress creates a V neck line at both the front and the back.
- Where the dress closes at the waist the fabric has been gathered into a black silk bow to highlight the waist area. On one side of the dress the fabric is finished with a pleating detail that opens up to create the perfect drape over the body. On the other side, it is pulled up and under the bow which lets the hem at that side have a slight curve up from the bottom.
- The dress is so well-made that I think you could wear it either way around depending on how it works best on you.
- This is an extraordinary piece of true Haute Couture by one of the greatest designers of our lifetime.
- The dress is unlined and is completely hand finished inside to Haute Couture standards. It hooks and snaps to close at the waist and inside there is a hidden set zipper and inner built-in waist stay. Each sleeve zips to close at the wrist. Light padding at the top of each shoulder.
- There is no size tag present because it is true Couture. Please go by the measurements listed below.

ossie clark
Iconic 1972 Ossie Clark Couture 'Cuddly' Black Moss Crepe Open Back Wrap Dress w Huge Sleeves
I Have a Question
- This is one of his most iconic and collectible designs that dates to 1972.
- The dress made under the creative direction of Ossie Clark
- Ossie named all of his couture dress and this one is known as the Cuddly.
- To wear the dress you simply slip it on and wrap it at the waist where it ties into place.
- The dress is made out of his signature moss crepe in black.
- The wrap creates a V at the front and then the back has a large open cut out that leaves your back bare and exposed.
- It is very sexy and instantly recognizable as being an Ossie Clark piece.
- The sleeves are phenomenal. Each is a huge very full balloon bishop cut sleeve that are puffed and full above their cuffs.
- Once the dress is wrapped around you the skirt curves over your hips and then falls to the floor, widening out as it nears the hem. The dress is in its original length.
- The wrap leaves a long overlap at the front side of the skirt. When you stand still it falls over itself but when you move or sit you do a flash of leg. Depending on how tight you tie out around the waist you can show the entire leg.
- The dress is unlined and made out of a black moss crepe. One tie is a little shorter then the other but does not appear to have been altered. I see very minor bits of lighter areas on the moss crepe here and there. This is a natural patina on this type of fabric as in ages and is mentioned for accuracy
- The wrap style should allow it to fit a variety of sizes.

bob mackie
Incredible & Rare 1980s Bob Mackie Well Documented Ivory Sequin & Nude Stretch Net High Slit Dress
I Have a Question
- This dress is instantly recognizable as having been designed by Bob Mackie.
- Mackie was best known for dressing Cher and for his undying love of opulence and bead work, both of which he incorporates heavily into the best of his designs.
- He worked for both Edith Head and Jean Louis prior to working as a costume designer and co-designing with Ray Aghayan. That led to his incredible journey in designing for stars like Cher and Diana Ross for many years.
- Tracee Ellis Ross wore its twin along with several others we have included here. It is one of his pieces that have become iconic in modern culture.
- This is an amazing dress that is heavily sequinned and extremely sexy and flattering once on. The base of the dress is made of a nude stretch silk netting that has a pattern made up of beautiful curving bands that feel like they are wrapped around you like flames.
- Mixed into this is an elaborated detailing made of faux pearls that curve down the front of the dress and highlight that very high set slit at the front. The pearl embellishments travels upwards right to the neckline and run down each sleeve.
- The designs that you see are made up of ivory coloured sequins hand set in curving bands. White and silver tube beads are set vertically to create an edge around each of those curving bands. Additional silver sequins and rhinestones are scattered in between.
- The combination of the glass tube beads and sequins give the dress an extra layer of texture and glamour as every inch of it catches the light and sparkles.
- The dress has a decent weight to it when it is off of the body because of that extensive bead-work but once on the body it lies and drapes in a way that it is balanced and easy to wear.
- The bodice is cut to skim over the chest with a high, slightly angled neckline. The sleeves are cut straight and lined with a layer of nude silk to really show off the design that trails down and around each sleeve.
- The waist is brought in just slightly so that there is a bit of shape created but there is no horizontal seam to break the lines of the design.
- The skirt is cut on a curve so the back is longer then the front and it wraps around you to that high, wide slit at the front. The effect of this is far more dramatic and fabulous on a real body and it really shows off the legs.
- These were produced with a nude silk chiffon lining. If you preferred the true nude, semi-see through dress that Mackie is so well known for, you could easily have it removed.
- The dress is fully lined in a nude silk through the body and the sleeves have a more transparent nude chiffon lining. It closes with a painted metal and nylon back zipper. Hand finished throughout. Slight padding at the edge of each shoulder and zippers on each cuff. In person it is a touch more of a cream. Perhaps the occasional loose thread. It is extremely well made. It does have some stretch and the measurements below are the comfortable range laying flat.

Pre-Fall 2016 Saint Laurent by Hedi Slimane Runway Look 37 Gold Metallic Thread & Sequin Feather Dress
I Have a Question
- This is a very rare dress from the Pre-Fall 2013 YSL collection.
- It was made under the creative direction of Hedi Slimane.
- The twin of the dress was Look 37 on the runway of 93 looks and the collection was also celebrating the 50th anniversary of the YSL Rive Gauche label. Dresses had a touch of the 70s and the textiles were elaborate including this phenomenal piece.
- Lady Gaga was also shot wearing its twin.
- The dress has amazing movement and I love that you can see that in the reference photo and video.
- The dress is made out of a black silk and then that has an amazing peacock feather pattern that follows the lines of the dress. The feather design is made out of gold metallic thread to create the pattern that you see. Gold sequins are set in in amongst the pattern to highlight the design, and then tiny little more muted gold sequence follow the ends of the feathers. This combination of sequence on the goal allows the dress to glint beautifully in the light from every angle.
- The front is cut in a V and the bust is cut to skim over you to the waist. The waist has some shape defined by a band of a matching fabric that runs all the way around you.
- The sleeves are phenomenal. They are cut in a diamond shape at their ends so they fall at different lengths over the arm. The pattern is set over that running down the lengths of the sleeves.
- The skirt has a head pointed finish at the side and it is incredibly full. When I lay flat. It is a full circle all the way around. The amount of fabric gives you tremendous movement as you move.
- I also love how this increases the depth and weight of the pattern. The feather pattern runs down the length of the skirt all the way around you and when you move and you get the feel of how much silk and gold actually makes up the skirt. It is just phenomenal.
- On the runway, it was shown belted in with a scarf. These are pieces that were sold separately. If you prefer that look, it would be easy to add pieces of your own to re-create it.
- These extensively beaded pieces or produced in limited quantities. This is a phenomenal example of his time at the label.
- The dress is fully lined in a black silk and closes with a hidden set back zipper. It appears to have been worn very little if at all.

I Have a Question
- This dress is unlabeled but we have had it twin before so I know that it is by Fernando Pena.
- Fernando Pena was born in Spain and ended up based in Miami where he ran a small independent couture house.
- The first time I had this dress a bride bought it for her wedding.
- The dress is made out of a pale nude pink silk net that is covered in thousands of tiny glass tube beads hand sewn into place and following the vertical lines of the netting.
- The beads are done in rows of gold, pink and silver. A heavier bands of beads circle each cuff.
- A flower design runs across the front bodice and wraps around to the back. A second wide panel of beaded flowers runs just above and around the hem.
- The edge of the neckline and hem are finished in a metallic silver thread.
- The shoulders have a tiny band of padding to create their caps.
- The dress is unlined so it does have some transparency through the netting. You could easily add a slip under it to make it opaque.
- It closes with a back zipper and each cuff has a small hidden set painted zipper. Hand work through out. It is easy to fit because of the loose cut through the body.
- There is no size tag present so please go buy the measurements listed below.

oscar de la renta
Gorgeous Spring 1992 Oscar de la Renta Runway Black Silk Organza Net Ruffled Off Shoulder Dress
I Have a Question
- The twin of this dress walk the runway for the Spring 1992 ODLR collection.
- It was made under the creative direction of Oscar de la Renta.
- This was an incredible collection filled with beautiful things and I am very pleased to have a second dress from it in the shop at the moment after just listing that full length lace dress recently.
- The dress is made out of a black silk organza that has a woven effect so that it has a slight transparency and almost the feel of a netting.
- The neckline is set wide across so that it sits off of the shoulders it's a bit of a elastic around the part that goes around your arm for comfort. You can also choose to wear it more up and on the shoulder. A wide 5" ruffle follows the entire neckline and gives it the prettiest flounce all the way around you.
- Under that the bodice skims down, curves in a touch at the natural waist, and then curves back down to a seam that sits at the top of the hip. If you wanted to add more shape, it would be easy to add a belt.
- The skirt is created by stocking ruffles that overlap each other all the way down to the hem. They get progressively wider as they go down the length of the skirt and this is what gives the skirt its incredible volume.
- The skirt falls shorter at the front and then the back is quite a bit longer. I love how this adds to the volume and detail of the skirt and still allows for a flash of leg to show. At the front there are six layers of ruffles and at the back there are ten. That, combined with the lightness of the fabric, gives you fantastic movement when you move. You can see this in the reference runway video.
- This is an absolutely stunning dress and this particular cut of dress is one of my favourites. .
- The dress is fully lined in a black silk with a built-in inner bodice that is lightly boned for support. The inner bodice closes with its own zipper. A waist stay hooks to close. Over that the dress closes with a hidden set back zipper. It appears to have been worn very little if at all.

Chic Resort 2018 Michael Kors Runway Look 44 Black Dress w Elaborate Gold & Black Sequin Detailing
I Have a Question
- The twin of the dress was presented for the Resort 2018 Michael Kors presentation.
- It was made under the creative direction of Michael Kors
- The show was presented at the Whitney Museum and he said that he chose that space to remind people that they live on an island, calling the theme "Tropicalia a la Tomboy". The evening pieces he described as being the "super easy, super glamorous point of the whole collection."
- This is a fantastically easy dress to wear and has all the hallmarks of the amazing tailoring that Michael excels at with this particular silhouette of dress.
- The shoulders are soft and the sleeves are small caps. The neckline is slightly scooped and the bust skims over you with perfectly placed darts to help shape it around the body.
- The waist is seamed for shape and then it curves out over the hips. It falls in a chic pencil shape that will land just below the knee depending on your height.
- The base fabric is a fine black virgin wool with a bit of spandex added so that it has some stretch and feels insanely comfortable once on the body.
- Onto that is a lovely and intricate design that runs over the entire dress. It combines tiny gold sequins that are set to overlap and create the outline of a abstract design that is filled with a little teardrop and circle shaped glossy black paillette sequins. These are only attached at their very tips so they have the slightest bit of movement. They are so densely applied that they sit off of the dress slightly to create an amazing three dimensional texture.
- It is very chic, very easy and very Michael Kors.
- The dress is fully lined in black silky rayon and closes at the back with the hidden set zipper. It appears to have been worn very little if at all.

- The soft sculptural quality of the dress is phenomenal. It is made out of a very light in weight black nylon that is very pliant. Light in weight padding lies between the layers that make up the body of the dress. This gives the dress a soft structure and the incredible volume and shape that you see. We have added nothing underneath to any of these photos to create the volume that you see.
- The sleeves extend out from either side of the neck line to slope softly outward from the shoulder.
- Both the front and back plunge into a V and are detailed with a chunky gold toned metal chain that is hand stitched into place. The chain continues from there to cross over itself at the front and at the back. From there it scoops over to the sides. On one side the chain curves down and over one hip on the outside of the dress and on the other side it sits on the interior of the dress. The fabric is gathered and hand stitched into the chain to create the beautiful curving shapes that the dress has. It is ingenious.
- An open keyhole is created at the back where the chains meet and the dress is so well-made that I think you could wear it either way around if you wanted that at the front instead.
- The skirt is phenomenal. It is quilted and lightly padded. It scoops back up and under itself at the hem and is attached into the chain that sits in the interior.
- The dress is like a complicated puzzle that has been peace together perfectly.
- The skirt is full and when I lay it out flat it makes a complete circle of fabric.
- The the skirt is constructed so that the inside is the same fabric as the outside and the bodice is unlined. It slips on to wear with no closures. Its easy cut should allow it to fit a range of sizes. On a smaller frame it will just feel more oversized. The dress has never been worn and still has its original tags and an extra piece of repair fabric in a clear pouch attached to the tag on the inner skirt.

Spring 2024 Christian Dior by Maria Grazia Chiuri Runway Look 75 Purple Silk Chiffon Dress w Huge Balloon Sleeves
I Have a Question
- The twin of this dress in black walked the runway for the Spring 2024 Dior show as Look 75.
- It was made under the creative direction of Maria Grazia Chiuri.
- Maria was quoted as saying "But really, I want to break this thing that collections have to be about one reference. I think that in fashion, we also we have this risk, that we give references that people think they can't attain personally. So I really want to create a wardrobe, where there is a little bit of evidence that you can personalize your style."
- This dress is made from a soft interesting shade of purple that has a touch of a fuchsia pink undertone done in a feather light silk chiffon that has been softly pleated.
- The shoulders are soft and the front and the back of the top have a wide scoop that goes right to the edges of the shoulder. I think that if you are not very broad through the shoulders that you could probably wear this fully off of the shoulder if you wished.
- The sleeves are incredible. Each is exceptionally wide by the time it reaches it's cuffs. Each sleeve is attached around the top of the inside shoulder and are draped over a small shoulder strap that is hidden underneath. From there they fall in a beautiful and extremely full balloon cut. On the underside of each sleeve there is an opening that adds to their fullness. Once they are buttoned around the wrist they puff out above your hands in the most beautiful way. They have a suggestion of the same pleat work that runs over the rest of the dress but it is very soft and left to feel more open and full.
- The bodice skims over the bust to a seamed waist for shape. We have not added a belt and it was not shown with one but if you wanted more shape it would be easy to add one.The fabric on the bodice is finished in overlapping knife pleats.
- The pleats continue under the seam at the waist and then they open up to create the volume of the skirt as it falls to the floor. There is an immense amount of silk chiffon used in the skirt. When you move it moves beautifully around you.
- The dress is fully lined in a purple silk and the sleeves are unlined. It closes with a hidden set side zipper. An interior waist stay hooks to close and each wrist buttons. It appears to have been worn very little if at all

Minimalist 2007 Alexander McQueen Bias Cut Liquid Deep Purple Silk Dress w Amazing Sleeves
I Have a Question
- This dress is from the 2007 Alexander McQueen season.
- It was made under the creative direction of Alexander McQueen.
- A copy of this dress that was re-issued in an ivory for the 2011 wedding collection. You will recall that I recently had a lace dress in that was made under the same circumstances where a original dress done by Lee was re-issued at a later date for a wedding collection.
- I love having the original and as far as I am aware it was only produced in black and this purple in 2007. It has that same bias cut draped feel as the McQueen that Elle Fanning borrowed and wore recently so we have added a photo of that to give you an idea of it on.
- The dress is made from a beautifully weighted purple silk that has a slight texture running through it.
- It has that same liquid feel that the best of the 1930s pieces did that were made from this similar fabrics.
- Like those dresses of the thirties this is also cut on the bias but with a more shaped silhouette. I love that the fabric is heavy enough and that the dress is lined so that it will not highlight 'flaws' underneath like some bias cut pieces can.
- It is cut to flow over the body and skims over the bust, waist and hips to the floor.
- The neckline drops into a V at the front. It glides over the bust and there is a soft curving seam that starts at the bust and runs down into the side seam. This not only helps to add a little shape but it also becomes this interesting design feature and a subtle way for him to work in one of his signature angled seams.
- The skirt continues past and over the hips and then flares out as it reaches the hem. At the back there is extra fabric worked around the centre seam to give you a trained effect behind you.
- This flaring out at the bottom and the extra bit at the back give you fabulous movement when you walk or move.
- The sleeves are incredible. They are set in these soft loops around each arm. They leave the sides of the shoulders bare and really add to the thirties feel of the dress.
- The dress is fully lined in a purple silk and closes with a hidden set back zipper. The bias cut fabric has some stretch so should allow it to fit a range of sizes. The measurements below give you the comfortable range the fabric has when lying flat. It is in its original length. I see perhaps a touch of grubbiness and scuffing near the hem bit it is very minor and mentioned for accuracy.

Fall 2002 Oscar de la Renta Runway Look 50 Purple Silk Dress w Hand Applied Patchwork
I Have a Question
- The near twin of this dress walked the Fall 2002 runway for Look 50 in the collection.
- It was made under the creative direction of Oscar de la Renta.
- Photos from a Moroccan open air market were projected onto the stagefront and this is what set the tone for the show that season. In the review of the collection that year Vogue commented; 'There was a whiff of far-flung exoticism throughout the collection... almost every outfit got a touch of spice via embroidery, (or) a dusting of sequins. De la Renta ended as always, with a parade of great evening wear... just a thing for midnight at the Medina.'
- The dress has this fabulous almost sculptural feel with is simple cut and that beautiful deep purple silk fabric. It's full coverage keeps it feeling very refined and elegant.
- The silk is a very high quality and feels very smooth to the touch. This fabric choice keeps it fairly light in weight but it still has enough structure to hold that gorgeous shape that you see.
- The neck is a shallow scoop and the bodice is cut to skim over you. The shoulders are shaped but soft and the sleeves are long and slightly taper down to the wrist.
- The waist is brought in through curved vertical seaming and the skirt falls from there to the floor.
- I love the patchwork panels that are added all the way around the lower hem. These are made up of a variety of embroidered silks and velvets that have the occasional mirrored embellishment worked within the embroidery. These run all the way around the hem and up and into the skirt.
- Underneath the top layer is a vivid pink underskirt with a stiffen hem and ruffle covering over that. I have taken a photo to show you how the very edge of this ruffle peaks out from underneath the outer hem of the skirt for an unexpected shot of vibrant colour.
- The underskirt helps add support and hold the fullness of the skirt. It adds a pretty sense of sweeping skirts as you walk away.
- Hidden pockets are set along each hip.
- The dress is fully lined in a vibrant pink silk. It closes with a hidden back set zipper and each sleeve has a hidden set zipper at its cuff. There is a tiny bit of stress to the center and one side seam near the waist at the back. Please see the photo after the label shot. The zipper has a tiny bit of stick when it hits the spot. It otherwise appears to have been worn very little at all.

Fall 2008 Alexander McQueen 'The Girl Who Lived in a Tree' Strapless Draped Silk Dress w Elaborate Beading
I Have a Question
- This dress is from the McQueen's Fall 2008 collection.
- It was made under the creative direction of Alexander McQueen.
- This is the actual dress worn by Connie Britton to the 2024 Emmys.
- The fall 2008 collection was called 'The Girl Who Lived in a Tree' and it was inspired by a combination of his trip to India and a 600 year old elm in his garden.
- The V&A Museum says of this collection: 'McQueen’s Autumn/Winter 2008 collection centered on a fairy tale narrative devised by McQueen about a girl who descends from a tree to marry a prince and then become a queen. It was inspired by a 600-year-old elm tree in the garden of the designer’s Sussex home. At the center of the set stood a giant tree swathed in fabric, inspired by Bulgarian artist Christo, who is renowned for wrapping buildings with material.'
- You can see a similar swooping cut that the final pieces of this show had.
- The dress is made out of a beautiful rich black silk and is cut with a sculptural line combined with that bias cut draping.
- Inside there is a more fitted dress and then the length is created by a long panel of black silk that is attached around the neck line and drapes over the inner dress.
- The dress is strapless and there is a full built-in cupped and boned corset that holds the dress in place and gives you support. The way that the silk panel is draped over the inner dress allows one side of the inner dress to be seen.
- The part of the inner dress that can be seen was then elaborately finished with hand done embroidery and beads done in a stunning floral design. I took several photos holding the draped panel away from the inner part of the dress so you can see how the beading extends even underneath the panel that lies over top of it.
- The silk panel that sits over this beautifully constructed inner bodice falls around you all the way to the floor on one side. On the other side, the silk is gathered up so that it drapes down and around you. This is a classic and signature McQueen silhouette, and is absolutely stunning once on the body.
- The dress is a beautiful mix of exposing just enough of the shape of the body so you don't lose your shape completely while at the same time it showcases the exceptional tailoring skills that he excelled at and how he could control the draping exactly how he wished it to fall.
- I love how the draping slightly exaggerates the shape of the body. No matter what angle you see this dress from once it is on there is an interesting drape or an elaborate beaded detail.
- Inside, an inner black silk lining goes to just above the knee and there is a built in inner corset that is lightly boned and cupped. The corset has its own back zipper to close and then the dress zips to close over that with a hidden set back zipper. It appears to have been worn very little if at all.

Spectacular Spring 1992 Oscar de la Renta Extremely Fine Black Lace Dress w Tiered Ruffled Full Skirt
I Have a Question
- This is an absolutely incredible piece that dates to the Spring 1992 collection.
- It was made under the creative direction of Oscar de la Renta.
- We have not yet found a photo from the collection of this exact dress but we did find a shorter version that has the exact same top.
- This might be one of my favourite dresses I have had in the shop. The photos do not do it full justice and it is only when you see it in person that you realize just how beautiful it is.
- The dress is made out of a fine black lace. The lace completely covers the dress and there are many, many yards of lace that have gone into making this dress.
- There a built-in inner fitted bodice that is strapless and is meant to be seen through the outer layer of lace. This inner layer is lined in a black tissue silk and is lightly boned for support. Lace covers this inner bodice and extends out to form the little cap sleeves.
- At the back the inner corset scoops down into a low V with a single layer of lace over the upper back. This makes it feel very elegant but still very sexy.
- I love the play on transparency that the upper portion of the dress has.
- The waist nips in and then the dress glides over the hips to fall to the floor in a wide expanse of silk and lace. The fullness of the skirt is absolutely incredible and again there is a strong play on transparency with all of the layers that make up the skirt.
- Under the top lace layer of the skirt are three layers of silk organza. Two black silk layers sit directly under the top lace and then the final innermost layer is a silk chiffon. The two innermost layers both have wide bands of stiffening around the hem and the layer that sits directly under the lace has three stacked stiffened bands going up the skirt. This is what helps to hold the incredible shape and volume that you see.
- The skirt is extremely full and has many yards of lace in its construction. The volume that you see was all created by the sheer amount of fabric, the cut and the seven lace tiers that run over the entire lower portion of the skirt.
- I love the tiers of lace that cover the lower part of the skirt. Each is set to slightly overlap the next one down. No expense was spared on the lace in the dress. Even the area between the tiers have been finished with lace despite that fact that you cannot see them. Each tier has lace that is set so that the edges are scalloped to follow the pattern in the lace. I took a photo where I hold the skirt up on one side and this will give you an idea of the amount of yardage the skirt has. It is incredible.
- The inner construction of this dress is as good as the exterior and it is made to a demi-couture level with hand finishes throughout.
- The dress closes with a back zipper where the inner corset starts. The neck hooks to close and there is a keyhole between the top of the neck and the zipper. It is lightly boned through the bodice. An inner waist stay hooks to close. It appears to have been worn very little if at all.
- There is no there is no size tag present so please go by the measurements listed below.

Fantastic 1980s Bob Mackie Strapless Glossy Black Sequin Stretch Dress w Back Kick Skirt
I Have a Question
- This amazing sequin dress is from Mackie's 1980s boutique label.
- It was made under the creative direction of Bob Mackey.
- This is the actual dress that Sarah Snook wore to attend the Director Guild Awards in March 2022.
- Mackie was best known for dressing Cher and for his signature glamour. He worked for both Edith Head and Jean Louis prior to entering costume design and he began by co-designing with Ray Aghayan. That led to his incredible journey in designing for stars like Cher and Diana Ross for many years before launching his own label.
- His work always has that touch of the best of Hollywood glamour.
- The dress has an incredible pattern done in sequins that allows the entire dress to catch the light from every angle.
- The sequins are a glossy black and are set in vertical rows set into rectangular sections over the dress. In between the sections he left bands of the fabric with no sequins to create horizontal and vertical lines.
- The sequins are set so that they slightly overlap the next sequin in line. There are thousands of sequins on this dress.
- The dress is strapless and it is cut to hug the body through the bodice. Inside the waist is cinched and the sequins curve over that inner structure. The inner corset is cupped and boned to hold the dress in place and add shape.
- The dress skims over the hips and falls to the floor, widening out as it nears the hem with a little flare. At the back it is cut longer with extra fabric there to create a little flare. So when you walk you get a little kick of fabric behind you.
- The fabric has a slight stretch to it so it is very easy to fit and comfortable to wear.
- It has a very classic Old Hollywood movie star feel to it. This is a dress that you just slip on and go.
- The bodice has a built in inner corset that is cupped and boned. The rest of the dress is unlined. It closes with a hidden set back zipper. When it was borrowed by Sarah's styling team they added a wide stay under the bust and another around the inner waist. Both hook to close and I have left them in place because it gives extra support. They also temporarily turned the hem up to accommodate her height and it has been let back down to be its full original length. There is one tiny area along the very top edge of the neckline near the zipper that has a couple missing sequins and perhaps a missing sequin here and there. Please see the photo after the label shot.

Prettiest Spring 2000 Original Valentino Runway Look 84 Embroidered Camisole, Jacket & Silk Skirt Set
I Have a Question
- The near twin of this set walked the runway for the Spring 2000 Valentino show.
- It was made under the creative direction of the original Mr. Valentino.
- On the runway the skirt shown was a longer bias cut skirt. The skirt and cardigans were sold separately in the shops and my client purchased this version, which is slightly more elaborate.
- I love that since it is a set instead of a dress, you can mix and match it with things that you already own. The versatility of having three pieces is always an extra bonus.
- Vogue said of the collection "Elegant, glamorous and gracefully cut are keywords when speaking of Valentino's work. This season the emphasis was on prints—floral appliqués, ivory polka dots on red crepe and lily of the valley embroideries."
- The skirt is made out of a heavy ivory silk that has beautiful drape. To wear it you wrap it around you and it snaps into place inside the waistband. The waistband then folds inward towards you and it creates a beautiful drape that gives it an almost sarong feel.
- I have taken a close-up of how it is gathered at the side where it folds over itself. It is all swept upwards into the waist and then the hem is rounded on that same side with a pretty upward curve.
- The top and camisole are extraordinary. Both are made out of a ivory netting that has the most elaborate embroidery covering the surface of both pieces.
- The inner top is a little tank top with straps extending out from the main body of the top to curve up and around each shoulder. The neckline is scooped at the front and the back. I love how all of the edges are rounded and edged with a pretty scalloping shape created out of corded ribbon.
- The cardigan that slips over that is easy fitting with an open front, no collar and long simple sleeves. It is cut more boxy through the body for an easy to fit feel.
- Both the camisole and cardigan are covered in elaborate 3D embroidery that creates flowers in an array of soft colours. Little red sequins and beads are also scattered throughout the pattern.
- I find it so interesting that the front of both pieces mix soft pastels and then the back of both pieces are done with the primary colour being red. This gives the two sides a distinct contrast.
- I do think that the top is so well-made that you could wear it either way around and decide what colour you want to have at the front so it can match the front of the cardigan or contrast it.
- The embroidery is made out of thread, cording and silk ribbon and it really is extraordinary. This would have all been done by hand. I have taken many close-ups for you to see how elaborate it is.
- The camisole and cardigan are unlined and have a slight transparency. The camisole closes with a hidden set side zipper and the cardigan has no closures. The skirt is lined in a ivory silk chiffon and snaps into place along the waist as described above. I see one tiny reddish mark on the back near the waist. Please see the photo after the label shot. If you wear the cardigan and top with it and over top of the skirt band you do not see it.
- The skirt is tagged a vintage Valentino 12 and neither the top or cardigan has a size tag
- Excellent condition with one flaw noted above

Dreamiest 2010s Valentino Off White Silk Wedding Dress w Tiered Ivory Lace & Ruffle Skirt
I Have a Question
- This stunning Valentino wedding dress is new with tags and was never worn. It is beautifully made.
- The wedding collections are not as well documented as the regular collections so dating them is a little trickier but this is most likely from the late 2010s.
- It is a beyond gorgeous for the bride looking to make a chic and elegant statement.
- This is a stunning dress. Tiny matching silk straps curved up and over each shoulder. It is cut fairly straight across the neck line and skims over the bust to the waist in a simple silhouette that has the perfect classic feel to it.
- Centred and tacked into place at the front of the bodice is a large flat bow that is made out of the same silk. I love the nod to the 1950s that this gives the dress while still staying thoroughly modern in feel.
- From there the skirt falls to the floor and widens out dramatically as it nears the hem. For the majority of these photos I have added a light crinoline underneath so that you could see how full the skirt is. We also shot it with no crinoline underneath so you can see how it naturally falls. I think that if you wanted it to be even fuller you could easily achieve that by adding a very full underskirt.
- The skirt is a work of art. It is done in an incredible 23 layers of ruffled bands of the same silk alternated with a lace in a matching colour. I love that this gives it an almost petticoat feel that is purposefully meant to be seen.
- Each stacked band of either the silk or lace gradually gets fuller around as they near the floor and this is what creates the volume of the skirt that you see.
- All of that volume gives you incredible movement while still maintaining structure so the general shape and fullness of the skirt is not lost when you move. The way this moves around you is magical.
- The dress is fully lined in a matching silk and closes with a hidden set side zipper. It has its original hang tag attached.

Incredibly Rare Fall 1979 Chloe by Karl Lagerfeld Couture Runway Ivory Chiffon & Lace Dress w pearl Details
I Have a Question
- The twin of this dress walked the runway for the Fall 1979 Chloe collection.
- It was made under the creative direction of Karl Lagerfeld.
- This is an incredibly rare and very well documented dress from one of the most creative and forward thinking collections that Karl did for the label.
- In the book 'Chloe Catwalk', Vogue was quoted as saying "The clothes that Karl Lagerfeld designs for Chloe are the natural results of the world he creates, and if they sometimes seem to be from other times, it is because those other times have as much reality for him as rain and taxes have for the rest of us. You can love Karl Lagerfeld's clothes, you can hate them. See them once, and you can't forget them." The Japan Times called it "A trend setting collection". The Glasgow Herald said "Karl... takes the Edwardian Gibson Grill as his inspiration; hour glass shapes - curved bosom, tiny waists, swelling hips".
- US vogue also commented that "Women collect Lagerfeld by the piece, not by the wardrobe"
- It is incredibly well documented and an extremely rare piece of Chloe, from an outstanding collection, and exemplary example of the history of the brand under Karl.
- The dress is made from a feather light silk chiffon in a deep ivory. In person, the ivory is a touch deeper than how it photoed here. Onto this are hand applied rows of lace and strings of faux pearls.
- The sleeves are long and they have added fabric built inside the shoulder area to help hold some volume ad the slight cap around the upper arm. They are full all the way down to the wrist where they explode outward with a cuff made out of four layers of the angle edged lace. Circling each wrist, and circling where the sleeve is set into the bodice, are a string of larger size pearls. Smaller size strings of pearls follow the lace that runs down and wraps around the full length of each sleeve.
- The neckline is high and like the cuffs, it is made out of multiple layers of the lace that are stacked on top of each other to create that dramatic ruff around the neck. It wraps over itself at the front and sweeps out to meet one shoulder.
- The bodice is cut to skim over the bust to the dropped waist. Multiple panels that mix the lace and strings of pearls are set diagonally over the bodice and around the back, highlighting the sweep of the collar above.
- The waist is dropped and seamed with a slightly more generous cut. It was not shown with a belt on the runway, but if you wanted to add shape, you certainly could belt it at the natural waist for a more defined silhouette.
- The skirt curves over the hips and it is a gathered all the way around the waist in a series of tiny pleats. These allow the skirt to open up underneath beautifully to help create that hourglass feel that was so prominent in this collection. Four more rows of the lace are set in the same angle all the way down the skirt but without the pearls. It is the perfect added detail and ties the whimsical feel of the entire dress together. A final layer of lace circles the bottom hem.
- At the back, the dress buttons to close with a series of large pearl buttons. These buttons are the largest pearls that we see on the dress and I love that he has used three sizes of pearls for this piece. These are the perfect finishing touch.
- The dress is fully lined in an ivory silk. It closes with the buttons at the back. Hand finishes throughout with most of the inner seams finished completely by hand to couture standards. The lining through the upper body is starting to split in places. I see a couple of minor marks on the outer dress and some of the lace around the upper shoulders and neck line have darkened slightly. There are added panels around part of the inner lining where part of the inner lining was reinforced. Please see the photos after the label shot. These are all mentioned for accuracy but most of the flaws are inside the dress. Given the rarity and importance of this dress it is still considered to be in excellent overall condition.

- Excellent condition with the note above.

Exceptional Spring 2004 Oscar de la Renta Runway Look 39 Strapless Pink Silk w Black Embroidery & Beads
I Have a Question
- The twin of this dress walked the runway for Look 39 of the Spring 2004 Oscar de la Renta collection.
- It was made under the creative direction of Oscar de la Renta
- In the review of the show Vogue said in part; "It’s virtually impossible not to get swept up in Oscar de la Renta’s confident vision of the luxurious life. The designer played to all of his strengths for spring, showing more of the pretty dresses, chic suits, and slim coats that have made him a touchstone of relaxed, modern elegance....Judging from the cuts and colors of this collection, de la Renta has Palm Beach on his mind." and for the evening pieces it was noted that; "Turning up the volume for evening, de la Renta progressed from a long, cool pour of pink charmeuse, to a giddy yellow satin strapless dress covered in nosegays of silk flowers, to embroidered and embellished showstoppers guaranteed to make it a memorable night—red carpet or not."
- This dress is absolutely dreamy. It is made out of the perfect pale pink silk that has been finished with a combination of black embroidery and black bead work that covers the entire dress.
- The dress is strapless and the neckline has a soft rounded shape to it. The silk is shaped over the bust to give shape and curves. Inside it there is a full built-in corset that is cupped and shaped for support structure.
- All of the panels that make up the dress are set vertically and he has use these to create the shape that you see. As it skims over the bust the panel panels narrow to create the shape through the waist. I love that there is no horizontal line to break the eye or the pattern that covers the dress.
- The skirt is spectacular. Here you see the true genius of Oscar. The panels that start at the top of the bus and narrowed into create the shape of the waist now expand into incredibly wide panels all the way around you. Each is over 30" wide by the time it reaches the hem and there are eight of them in total. This gives the skirt incredible volume that shows best when you move.
- Built in underneath that outer skirt is a second layer of the same silk. That layer has a stiffened edging all the way around it's ham and also is finished with a black chiffon ruffle that peaks out from underneath the top skirt as you move.
- The volume and lightness of the silk allows the skirt to move around you beautifully when you walk or move. When this is on and you are walking the effect that this creates is absolutely gorgeous. You can easily see that in the runway reference video.
- The final perfect detail is the extensive black embroidery and beadwork that covers the dress and highlights its shape and curves. I love how it is done in a deliberate pattern that follows the curves of the bodice and narrows in at the waist, giving the illusion of an even tinier waist.
- Dangling jetted beads circle all around the top edge of the dress and beads are worked through the embroidered pattern on the bodice. More embroidery is applied to each panel so that it circles around the entire skirt. When you move you glimpses of just how beautiful the embroidery is.
- This little extra and pretty detail adds that perfect finishing element of romance and femininity. This is Oscar at his very best and it is a tremendously beautiful dress.
- Fully lined in a pink silk with a full built-in cupped corset inside the bodice. The corset closes with its own zipper and then the dress closes over that with a back set zipper. An inner waist stay hooks to close. The dress appears to have been worn very little if at all.

Fall 2010 Valentino Maria Grazia Chiuri & Pierpaolo Piccioli Runway Look 37 Off Shoulder Ruffle Dress
I Have a Question
- The twin of this dress was shown for Look 37 for the Fall 2010 Valentino collection.
- It was made under the creative design of both Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli.
- Its twin was also worn by Fan Bingbing at Cannes that year.
- This is one of their earlier collections after stepping into Mr Valentino's shoes and I love that they stayed true to the label's heritage by using a classic Valentino combination of silk chiffon and ruffles for this dress.
- This dress was the second to last look of the runway collection.
- The dress is made out of a feather light silk chiffon done in a pale pastel salmon pink that is an exceptionally pretty colour. This fabric choice keeps the dress extremely light in weight and easy to wear.
- The elastic neckline is set wide across so that it sits fully off of the shoulders. I love how this leaves the top of your shoulders completely bare and exposed. Because the neckline is finished with elastic I believe that you could wear this on top of the shoulder if you wished.
- A wide 11" ruffle follows the entire neckline and gives it the prettiest flounce all the way around you. The width of the ruffle falls slightly over the waistline and this creates a pretty caped to the upper part of the dress.
- Underneath the ruffle the bodice skims down to the more generously cut waist. On the runway, and on the red carpet, a little brooch was added to one side. If you liked how this looked it would be easy to re-create with your own jewelled piece.
- The skirt is covered in a series of ruffles. Around the hips and waist they are set on a slight angle that runs down one side and and they are stacked horizontally along that angle. Under that, long vertical ruffles run the rest of the length of the skirt all the way to the hem.
- The incredible amount of ruffles covering the skirt combined with the lightness of the fabric gives you the prettiest movement when you move.
- This is an absolutely stunning dress and this particular cut of dress is one of my favourites.
- The dress is fully lined in a marching coloured silk and closes with a hidden set side zipper. The neckline has elastic running through its edge. It appears to have been worn very little if at all.

Wonderful Fall 2008 Christian Dior by John Galliano Deep Silver Silk Bias Cut Dress w Fabric Flower Details
I Have a Question
- This dress is from Fall 2008 collection and is a piece that would have been produced for the shops.
- It was made under the creative direction of John Galliano.
- The Collection celebrated the 1960s with Simon & Garfunkel's 'Mrs. Robinson' for the opening music. The models were styled with a nod to the 1960s but in a highly exaggerated way.
- Galliano said of the show "I am always looking for heroines who make me dream"
- The dress is made from a muted silver coloured silk. The silk is a beautiful weight and is just heavy enough to keep the shape that he wanted without it feeling too heavy.
- Straps extend outward from the middle of the front and curve over each side of your neck and then are angled back down to connect in the centre of the back.
- The bust is peaked and shaped. Inside it has a bit of a slightly stiffened lining to help hold the shape and mold it over the breasts. The fabric is softly pleated to angle in towards the centre where part of the silk extends out and is twisted to form a pretty 3D flower.
- From under the seam of the bust it falls over the body with a more generous feel. The silk is gathered in and pleated on one side and it does the same on that same side around the back. It has a more generous cut over the waist and hips. The bottom skirt widens out as it near the hem.
- The fabric at the hip on the opposite side of the pleating has been gathered and twisted to form too large flowers. These are a pretty extra detail and tie in the flower at the bust. They also are a clever way for him to have controlled the draping and the way the dress sits over and around you.
- The bit of flare on the lower skirt creates a pretty bit of movement around you when you move.
- The dress is fully lined in the same silver silk and closes with a hidden set side zipper. I see a couple of small faint marks underneath the bust area near the pleats. Please see the photo after the label shot. It does not detract from its wearability but is mentioned for accuracy.

2010s Valentino by Pierpaolo Piccioli & Maria Grazia Chiuri Sequin & Rhinestone Embellished Deep Silver Silk Dress
I Have a Question
- This gorgeous dress is one that was made for the shops and I believe is from the early 2010s.
- It was made under the creative direction of both Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli.
- Even with only the dress form shot it is so gorgeous. It is not hard to imagine just how beautifully this one will be on the body and how it moves.
- The base of the dress is made from stocking layers of silk chiffon and silk done in a deep pewter-silver colour. It is then heavily embellished from top to toe. The embellishments give it some weight but the silk layers underneath keep it from being too heavy once on the body.
- The dress is suspended by two straps that curve up and over the shoulders. The front neckline is scooped. At the back we see another scoop and there it is softened by a draping layer of embellished silk chiffon that falls softly over the scoop.
- Vertical lines of clear beads with silver applied to their centres are applied over the bodice. The beading is done in different sizes and mixed in with tiny silver sequins. These stop at the seam under the bust. At the back the bead work is applied more on an angle all the way up to the edge of the silk chiffon draped panel there.
- A heavy band of glass crystal rhinestones sit just under the seam where the bust ends. These top a 3.5" expense of a double layer of netting that is embellished with a diamond pattern done and silver metal thread. Little clear beads top where each intersection happens within the pattern. This panel is transparent so you get a glimpse of skin underneath. Where the panel ends there is a second wide band of the glass crystal rhinestones. All of the rhinestones are prom set, and this would all had to have been applied by hand.
- The skirt falls from under there, curving over the hips and widening out to a pretty fullness by the time it reaches the hem. The skirt has three full layers of silk in its construction, and I love that the back is cut longer than the front. This gives you a beautiful slight sweeping feel, and picks up on that pretty drape at the back. It is fantastic.
- The dress is fully lined in a marching silk behind the bodice. The panel at the waist is transparent. The skirt is made of three layers of silk and silk chiffon. The dress closes with a hidden set side zipper. There is perhaps the tiniest bit of grubbiness along the very edge of the arms. It is extremely minor but mentioned for accuracy.
- There is no size tag present so please go by the measurements listed below

Prettiest Spring 2006 Giorgio Armani Silk Chiffon & Net Skirt and Top Set w Beaded Butterflies
I Have a Question
- A version of this set walked the runway for the Spring 2006 Giorgio Armani, collection for Look 54.
- It was made under the creative direction of Giorgio Armani.
- This is from his main label and Vogue said of the dresses "Finely layered chiffon and tulle, picked out with minute embroideries of bugle beads and sequins, qualified each one as a singular piece of signature Armani... With this collection, the designer said that he had resolved to focus on what women really wear today."
- This is a set made up of two pieces which I love because this gives you the ability to mix and match them with other things from your wardrobe.
- The top combines two layers of silk chiffon with an attached layer of netting that floats over both of those layers. It is suspended from the shoulders by two straps that have been finished with tiny silver tube beads stacked in rows. These circle the neckline and then the entire top is finished with a combination of silver sequins and beads across the front. I absolutely love the flower and butterfly pattern. With the net floating over top the sequins and beads have a slightly diffused feel and it is so pretty.
- I have taken close-ups of the extraordinary amount of bead and sequin work that has been done to make the design. It is really exquisite hand workmanship.
- The front neck line is scooped into a V and the back is finished in a wide shallow scoop. I love how this leaves a bare expanse of skin around the upper shoulders.
- It skims over the bust and is cut generously around the waist for an easy fit. The hem is cut on an angle that dips down on one side and this mimics the way that the skirt and ruffles are cut underneath.
- The waist of the skirt is finished with a small black piping and then it curves out and over the hips all the way to the hem. The hem is so interesting because it is cut on a sharp angle that falls shorter on one side and then is substantially longer to fall to the floor on the other.
- The inner layer of a skirt is a silvery grey colour and then black chiffon is set in ruffles over that. The ruffles that are stacked on top of each other and set to follow the same sharp angle of the hem. It has amazing movement once on. As good as the photos are I think it is even better in person.
- The top has a lining of black silk chiffon and the skirt is lined in a grey chiffon netting. Both the skirt and top close with hidden set side zippers. Both pieces appears to have been worn very little at all.
- The skirt is tagged a vintage Armani 40 and the top has no size tag

Beautiful Resort 2009 Christian Dior by John Galliano Purple Bias Silk Crepe Dress w Plunge Front & Train
I Have a Question
- This dress is from the Cruise 2009 collection and it is a production piece produced for the shops.
- It was made under the creative direction of John Galliano.
- The runway pieces that season were based lightly on Poiret and the Paris of the past and for production there was a group of more refined and elegant pieces like this wonderful dress. You so often see how John translated his over the top runway collections into elegant, wearable and yet still glamorous pieces like this dress but this one is infinitely wearable.
- The Vogue report on the collection noted that: "Galliano has been mining the good old U.S. of A. for raw material from which to spin his dreams....grandes dames like Barbara Hutton, Millicent Rogers, and Nan Kempner—women who weren't afraid to make a bold sartorial statement, one that preferably involved a whopping piece of jewelry. From a shimmering backdrop that conjured a Tony Duquette garden, there emerged a full wardrobe for their modern-day counterparts in Palm Beach, Beverly Hills, and Dallas.... What this season is really about is not so much breaking the mold as delivering a vision of the good life—and Galliano can do that in spades."
- The dress is made out of a crepe that has a little bit of texture to it and is in the absolute perfect purple colour that is so good on so many skin tones.
- Wide straps curve up and around the neck and they extend into two triangles that cover your front and slightly wrapped around the sides.
- The neckline plunges right to the waist at the front and the entire upper back is left bare.
- A wide band wraps around your middle to the top of the hip and it is detailed with buttons that run down the front and appear to hold and gather the dress around you. These buttons are decorative. The real buttons are spaced down the side in his signature tightly spaced fabric covered buttons and loops and this is what closes the dress around you. His buttons are a design detail in themselves.
- From there it curves over the hips and then falls to the floor, expanding out as it near the hem. The bottom skirt is quite full and it flares out dramatically on either side.
- At the back, it stands out to create a train behind you. This extra fabric at the bottom creates beautiful movement as you walk and it elongates the body fantastically.
- This is that long, sexy silhouette that Galliano does so well and it is spectacular in this deep purple colour.
- The bodice is unlined and the skirt is lined in a purple silk that is cut to extend all the way to the end of the train at the back. The buttons at the front or decorative and the dress closes with a series of tightly space buttons at one side.

sybil connolly
Elegant Late 1950s Sybil Connolly Couture Pale Lavender Pleated Linen Strapless Dress w Shawl
I Have a Question
- Irish designer Sybil Connolly had her first major US fashion show in 1953. The American press dubbed her the 'Dublin's Dior'. Jacqueline Kennedy wore Connolly for her official White House portrait and Connolly was a particular favorite of Carmen Snow, the editor of Harper's Bazaar.
- It was made under the creative direction of Sybil Connolly
- The dress would've been made entirely by hand in her atelier in Ireland.
- In 1957 she launched her couture label. She created Haute Couture pieces made from Irish textiles and in particular she became famous for her distinctive use of pleated handkerchief linen.
- This excerpt from the FDIM Museum explains Sybil Connolly's techniques: "Sybil Connolly's trademark gowns required a tremendous amount of fabric. To construct one pleated evening dress required between 72 and 90 yards of Irish handkerchief linen. After undergoing a secret pleating process, this initial yardage became 7 to 10 yards of slightly irregular, narrow linen pleats. Like the early 20th century designer Mario Fortuny, Sybil Connolly was very protective of her pleating process, swearing that it was a secret she would "carry to the grave." In her designs, Connolly usually oriented the pleats horizontally, covering the seams with self-fabric cording. The cords also lengthen the overall line of the garment, providing a counterbalance to the horizontal pleats. As Connolly tended towards solid colors, the stiff cording also provides a necessary visual contrast to the soft linen pleats."
- She worked directly with the cloth on a model and rarely sketched beforehand.
- I found a quote that referred to the Irish linen she used to be 'of a quality so fine it was almost chiffon-like in weight' and that description is very accurate.
- The dress has a fairly simple line so that the pleating technique takes centre stage. The bodice is strapless and fitted and the pleated linen runs horizontally across the dress.
- The waist cinches in under that for shape and has a wide attached band done in a matching pale purple silk for added detailing.
- The skirt billows out from there and is very full. To help create the volume that you see the skirt has been set in and around the waist in soft cleats that open up into the fullness that you see as it falls to the floor. An incredible amount of fabric would have been used to create the skirt.
- The dress comes with its original matching shawl. This is cut into a simple triangle with loops set just inside the outer edges to slip your arms through and hold it in place.
- This is a wonderful and very rare example of her work. Most pieces are held in museums.
- The gown is fully lined in an ivory silk and boned through the bodice. It closes with a back zipper on the inner corset and then a second zipper closes over that on the outer layer of the dress. There are areas throughout where the fabric has softly faded. There are also areas where the it has slightly discoloured. Please see the photos after the label shot.
- There is no size tag present because it is Couture. Please go by the measurements listed below.

john galliano
Gorgeous Fall 2003 John Galliano Dusky Purple Bias Cut Silk & Silk Chiffon Dress w Draped Panels
I Have a Question
- This dress is from John Galliano's own label and is an incredible example of his work from this time period.
- It was made under the creative direction of John Galliano
- This is a production piece that was not shown on the runway but would have been made in limited quantities for the shops.
- For this season he had emphasized a glamorous hourglass shape mixed with nods to pinup girl lingerie style dressing. These bias cut dresses always showcase his love of the 1930s and 1940s and you can see that influence in them.
- The dress is made out of a deep dusky purple silk that has a slight bit of texture to it. It is completely cut on the bias in that signature cut he does so well.
- The dress falls from a delicate strap that curves up and behind the neck and then it drapes down and over the body to the floor.
- The bias cut of it allows the dress to skim and drape over you so that it shows every curve but is not overly fitted.
- The fabric has been pieced together with dropped and angled panels throughout to create the beautiful shape that you see.
- At the back, the strap meets behind the neck and then drop down the centre of the back and panels of silk are suspended from it. These curving panels can be worn either down and under the arms or you can drape your arms through them to create a beautiful curving 'sleeve' effect over the arm.
- The dress glides over the body past the bust, waist and hips and then flares out as it reaches the hem.
- It buttons to close down the side with a row of his signature buttons covered in the same silk and then on the other side the fabric is gathered in and up into a wired circle. The circle is open in the centre and the panels that gather into the circle have been cut out and opened so that it forms the shape of a flower trailing over one hip.
- The dress is lined in a crepe silk but you could choose to remove that lining and have that side be completely bare so that your skin showed through if you wished. I have seen this dress in another colour where someone did that and it looked great. It is an incredible feat of patterning.
- The photos cannot fully convey how a bias cut dress moves. It will only truly come to life when worn.
- Fully lined in a slightly deeper purple silk crepe and closes at the side with a series of silk covered buttons. I see perhaps a tiny pull in the fabric here and there which happens with this fabric and a bit of shininess here and there from pressing near seams. All minor and mentioned for accuracy.
- Tagged a FR42, GB14, US8. The bias cut should allow it to fit a range of sizes with it just draping more in a smaller frame

Resort 2017 Valentino by Pierpaolo Piccioli & Maria Grazia Chiuri Collection Look 70 Black Net & White Embroidery Dress
I Have a Question
- The twin of this dress was shown for Look 70 of the resort 2017 Valentino collection.
- It was made under the creative direction of Pierpaolo Piccioli & Maria Grazia Chiuri.
- This ended up being the final collection that Maria worked on for the Valentino label.
- The inspiration behind the collection was Cuba and the looks were rife with embroidery and print. Piccioli remarked that "It gave us a real freedom to mix, like a souvenir, lots of pieces together."
- The dress has the added provenance of being the twin of the dress worn by Natalie Portman that year on the red carpet. She wore it beautifully and it shows you just how spectacular the dress is once on the body.
- The dress is made out of a light weight, more open weave black net that sits over a black silk chiffon lining to make it opaque enough to wear. Onto that is a stark white embroidery that forms a beautiful pattern over the entire dress.
- The neckline is set wide across so that it sits at the edges of the shoulders. If you are not very broad across the shoulders you should be able to wear it fully off the shoulder. The dress form shows it fully off the shoulder. The collection photo shows it at the very edge and then Natalie chose to wear it a little higher up. I love that this let you see all of the options.
- A wide 9" ruffle follows the entire neckline and gives it the prettiest flounce all the way around you.
- Under that the bodice skims down to the seamed waist and then the skirt is smoothly set into the waist. From there the skirt expands outwards and by the time it reaches the hem it has an amazing amount of volume. The back is cut slightly longer than the front so you get a beautiful sweep.
- The the hem of the skirt has a ruffle that picks up on the one around the shoulders and that ruffle is a full 13" wide. Underneath the top layer is two more layers of black netting that sit between the top skirt and the inner silk chiffon lining. I love how this added touch of underskirts along with the beautiful cut of the skirt adds to the volume and detail of the skirt. It also gives you fantastic movement when you move.
- This is an absolutely stunning dress and this particular cut of dress is one of my favourites.
- The dress is fully lined in a black silk chiffon with extra layers of netting through the skirt as described above. It closes with a hidden set back zipper. It appears to have been worn very little if at all.

Rare Spring 1979 Chloe by Karl Lagerfeld Floral & Stripe Print Silk Dress w Matching Striped Belt
I Have a Question
- After much research I believe this to be from the Spring 1979 Chloe collection.
- It was made under the creative direction of Karl Lagerfeld.
- In this collection he moved away from 1940s as his inspiration into the sex appeal of the 1950s, said the book 'Chloe Catwalk'. The silhouettes were based on the hourglass. In that same book there was a very similar floral patterns shown I have included several photos here for you.
- Hand placed gathering emphasizes the hips for many of the pieces in this collection, along with extra emphasis on the waist. Lagerfeld said of the collection to the press "Frivolity is important. I want shape and sensualness."
- The dress is made from one of his signature feather light silks being used during this time period for Chloe. It is screened with a custom print that mixes an ivory, more pastel coral colour and a pale lavender.
- An interesting detail is that the labels are on the side of the dress that I think is the front. The side that has the deep plunge is longer in length at the hem so I believe that should be the back. I have seen other dresses with this label placement from around this time period and when the back is plunged like this, so it is not unusual to see. I have photoed it both ways for you, with the plunge at the back and the front. You could potentially wear the plunge at the front if you don't mind the longer hem at the front much like that Lacroix dress from me that was worn to the Met Gala a couple years ago when they turned it around backwards.
- The sleeves are long and it skims over the bust to the waist. The back plunges into a low V to just above the waist. As mentioned above, it is possible that you could wear it either way around. It is incredibly sexy worn either way.
- The waist is seamed and the dress comes with its original striped screened silk belt that hooks into place around you. The stripes on the belt pick up the stripes that are on the end of each sleeve and circle around the hem.
- The skirt curves over the hips and there is a gathering of the silk for added shape. It falls to the floor with the back cut longer then the front for a slight trained effect. You get the most fantastic movement as you walk.
- The dress is in its original uncut length and is unlined. It closes with a back hand set zipper. Hand finishes throughout. There is a tiny bit of fading at the top of the shoulders and edges of the hems. The entire dress looks to be hand dyed and or screened and it presents perfectly once on as this becomes part of the uniqueness of the pattern. The belt hooks to close.
- Excellent condition with the note above.

Cruise 2010 Chanel by Karl Lagerfeld Runway Look 33 Silk Chiffon Dress w Oversized Purple Floral Print
I Have a Question
- The twin of this dress walked the Chanel 2010 Cruise runway for Look 33 with a jacket over it that was later sold separately in the shops.
- It was made under the creative direction of Karl Lagerfeld
- The show was set on the boardwalk of the Venice Lido at dusk. "Coco at Lido" is how Karl Lagerfeld described this cruise collection. Vogue described the scene as Karl "reinstating the long-lost leisurely sensation of a fashion show as an exceptional one-off experience. The 350 guests reclining on sun beds in the famous white tented cabanas certainly felt privileged to be witnessing the extreme glamour of the designer's learned-but-light invocation of an important part of Coco Chanel's biography." The location was "one of Coco Chanel's favourite summer haunts—she visited Venice for almost ten years beginning in 1919 and met Diaghilev here".
- The inspiration behind much of the show was the twenties and thirties and you can see that in the lines of this dress.
- The dress is made out of a feather light ultra fine silk chiffon whose weave gives it the feel of a fine netting or mesh. These amazing fabric innovations were a keystone that you see in Karl's work.
- The silk is covered in a beautiful oversized floral print in dusky pastels done in a way that makes then look like they have been hand painted directly onto the fabric. The base colour is a deep blue-purple and the colour combination of everything together is stunning.
- It is sleeveless and the very upper portion of the bodice around the shoulders is a single layer of the silk so that it has a touch of transparency. Just above the bust it becomes a double layer so it can be worn, It is cut to skim over the bodice down to the waist. An attached panel of the same fabric goes around your waist and hooks into place at the back for added shape and subtle detailing.
- The dress falls from there in a swoop of that feather light silk to the hem that widens out as it near the floor. The back feels slightly fuller than the front so you get this pretty billowing effect around you when you walk. This is a signature Karl silhouette to give the dress as much movement as possible.
- The famous double C logo is worked throughout the floral print of the dress making it impossible to not know that you are wearing Chanel.
- The dress is lined with the same fabric through the bodice and the skirt is lined with a layer of a deep blue silk. It closes at the back with a hidden set zipper and has a hook and eye at the back of the neck with a keyhole between the two. The dress appears to have been worn very little if at all.

Prettiest Spring 2003 Original Valentino Runway Look 64 Red Silk Dress w Silk Chiffon Ties
I Have a Question
- The twin of this dress walked the runway in the Spring 2003 show for Look 64
- It was made under the creative direction of the original Mr. Valentino
- It was the only dress shown in this entire collection that season that was done in his signature Valentino red. So when you look through the collection photos it really stands out.
- The show was a huge success and Vogue especially loved the evening pieces; "For the evening review, it gets even better. Valentino's communiqués from his couture collection show up as delicate metallic-embroidered chiffons made into fragile capes, cardigans or dresses. And for the grand occasion, there's a full battalion of the designer's fabulous signature chiffon gowns."
- The dress is suspended from the shoulders by two tiny straps in the same red silk. The bodice is seamed just under the breasts and have minimal darting.
- It skims over the waist and hips and then from there it falls to the floor in a beautiful column of the red silk crepe that flares out slightly as it nears the hem.
- The back of the dress is cut slightly longer so you have a beautiful bit of a sweep behind you as you walk.
- Two panels of silk chiffon wrap around the waist area to add detail and shape to the dress. The panels are attached all the way around and then loop through openings at the front of the dress. The ties are cut extra long and fall to just above the hem at the front of the dress. These not only add beautiful detailing to the dress but also create amazing movement as you move.
- The top panel of the bodice is lined in a red silk and the rest of the dress is unlined. It closes with a hidden set side zipper. I see a touch of grubbiness here and there around the hem but it is very minor

Modern Valentino by Pierpaolo Piccioli Homage to the Fall 2004 Runway Look 53 Strapless Red Silk Dress
I Have a Question
- This is a modern Valentino was made in homage to the very famous Valentino dress that walked the runway for Fall 2004.
- This version was made under the creative direction of Pierpaolo Piccioli and the original 2004 version under Mr. Valentino
- The dress is strapless and made out of a red silk in the signature Valentino red.
- The dress is made out of long set vertical panels that run from the top of the bodice all the way to the hem. At the front the silk is gathered into both sides of the middle panel. The dress is shaped around the body by manipulating the width of the panels.
- One of the key signatures of this dress are the two large silk flowers in a marching red silk that sit on either side of the hip. On the original dress these top pockets are very shallow. The ones on this dress are slightly deeper so that you can slip your hands into.
- As the dress near the lower skirt the panels widen quite a bit to create that gorgeous flare that you see. Triangle shaped silk panels have been added on each side and all the way around the back of the skirt. This is what allows the skirt to flare out and sit in those exaggerated folds so beautifully that you see in the photos. They also allow a really beautiful and dramatic movement when you walk.
- The dress is fully lined in a red silk with an inner built-in lightly boned corset piece that zips on its own. The dress zips to close over that with a hidden set zipper that follows one of the back side seams. The dress appears to have been worn very little if at all.

Dreamy Spring 2018 Valentino by Pierpaolo Piccioli Black Tulle Sequin w Velvet Bows
I Have a Question
- This beautiful dress is from the Spring 2018 collection and it was made on a limited production.
- The dress was made under the creative direction of Pierpaolo Piccioli.
- Its twin was worn by Imogen Poots and also by a guest at the Couture collection that season. We have included reference photos for you to see how gorgeous this is once on the body.
- The dress is made out of a black tulle that sits over an inner black silk chiffon base. The netting has gold metallic embroidered thread applied in long stripes over the dress. Hand Zone onto the gold thread are tiny little sequins in a rainbow of colours. This creates an incredible subtle burst of colour across the entire dress.
- The netting on the bodice crosses over itself at both the back and front to create that pretty neckline that sits wide across to the shoulders.
- The little cap sleeves are very full with elastic and a ruffle at their ends. You can see in the reference photos that the sleeves can be worn on or off the shoulders and it dramatically changes the look of the dress. I love this extra versatility that this gives the dress.
- The skirt is very full and explodes outwards from the waist. All of the volume you see is created by multiple layers of netting and silk stacked over each other in layers. I have not added any extra crinolines underneath for the shots.
- Pretty velvet ties fall from each shoulder and they are set in a bow at the top of the shoulder for the perfect dreamy finish.
- The dress is fully lined in black silk and closes with a hidden set side zipper. It appears to have never been worn.
- There is no size tag present so please go by the measurements listed below

Rare Spring 2008 John Galliano Black Version of Look 13 Production Label Black Lace Dress
I Have a Question
- The twin of this dress in a blue walked the runway for Look 13 for the Spring 2008 Galliano collection.
- It was made under the creative direction of John Galliano.
- This is a very rare Production label piece by Galliano. It may or may not have been produced for retail but it is the original production piece made before making that decision. This is a very rare thing to find and an amazing piece of Galliano fashion history.
- I love that we have the runway photos and video of the dress in blue. The runway piece was shown unlined so it really allows you to see the extraordinary detail in the lace that the dress has. The black version is obviously harder to photo and it is lined, but has the same amazing detail as the runway piece.
- I have added some detail shots of the dress lane flat so that you can see the patterns watch all through the netting.
- The Spring 2008 show coincided with John Galliano's tenth year with the label and it was Dior's 60th year as a label. John celebrated that by creating pieces based on some of his signature looks through the past decade.
- The dress is made out of black netting that has a dot pattern running through.
- Added to this are circular medallions made out of a and then stitched embroider to create the circles that you see. These medallions are also a clever way to create the shape of the dress. Around the skirt, for example he has placed more of them all the way around to help provide structure and fullness before the final lower tier of the skirt.
- The bodice is shaped and cupped with a build in hooked strap. I love that the outer part of the cups of the bra are finished in a velvet, even though you can't see this, detail it is there. It just shows you how much attention was paid. I took a photo for you to see.
- The straps of the bra curve up and over your shoulder and are finished in a black velvet on their exterior side. Play beside those straps are straps made out of netting that have a round double ruffle shape. These sit over the inner bra strap once it's on your shoulder and Cape softly over the top of your shoulder and upper arm.
- Under the bus, it follows down to the waist where there is a pattern of the round medallion, circling all the way around you. These are placed on a slight downward angle on the sides to create a pretty line.
- Tool explodes to be very full and open. Just under the hip there is a second ring of those circular medallions that go all the way around you and again replaced on a slightly downward angle that curved down lower at the back of the skirt.
- Under that it is fantastic with layers to sit on top of each other with both layers having unfinished raw edges. One layer is longer than can you get even more volume.
- The back of the skirt curves around longer than the front. The lightness of the fabric let it move and catch the air fantastically. You can see that in the runway video.
- This is a phenomenally, rare piece of Galliano history, and and absolutely beautiful dress.
- The dress is fully lined in a black silk with a belt in attached bra that hooks to close at the back. The straps are adjustable. It closes with a tightly space row of his signature button and loops down one side.
- Because it is a production / sample piece there is no size tag present. Please go by the measurements listed below.

thierry mugler
Incredible 1980s Thierry Mugler Black Layered Silk Chiffon One Shoulder Dress Flared Skirt Dress
I Have a Question
- This is a phenomenal dress that we believe dates to the early to mid 1980s.
- It was made under the creative direction of Thierry Mugler.
- Mugler was a masterpiece of draping and cut and this is a fantastic example of that. It is cut with Mugler's masterful eye and attention to detail.
- It is made out of a black silk chiffon that sits over an inner structured and boned bodice. The dress under that is a play on transparency. The way the silk is draped in parts make some of it less transparent. The silk is gathered and placed to wrap around the body and emphasizes your curves.
- A panel of fabric extends up to create a single strap that wraps and hooks into place around the neck. A little half bow extends out to sit at the top of your back shoulder. The strap extends across the back on an angle to leave the rest of your back bare.
- The panels drapes upwards on one side and other panels extends down to wrap around the hips. Panels are caught up at the back of the waist to leave ties hanging down the side, picking up on the tie at the top of the shoulder. The body of the dress extends down to just above the knee, depending on your height. A single layer of bias cut silk chiffon is set in under that to create the lower skirt. It falls to the floor in a sweep of chiffon and adds incredible movement as you move.
- The bodice has a built in corset that closes with a series of hooks and then there is a zipper set under that. There is a layer of chiffon through the body of the dress. The neck strap snaps into place with hidden set snaps.
- There is no size tag present so please go by the measurements listed below.
