Spring 1977 Yves Saint Laurent Runway Blue Cotton Jacket w Wide Red, White & Blue Braided Trim
- The twin of this jacket walked the Spring 1977 Yves Saint Laurent runway.
- It was made under the creative direction of Yves Saint Laurent
- In the book on Yves Saint Laurent's work "Catwalk" the note for the couture counter part collection states that American Vogue wrote "Saint Laurent, the totally romantic view of woman and clothes" while French Vogue raved about the multicultural inspiration of the collection. That same spirit carried over to the ready-to-wear collection.
- While we researching we found a black-and-white photo of its twin from the runway and one tiny partial shot of it in colour as it walked back down. We have included that partial shot as well just so you can see the reference of how it was styled on the runway colour wise.
- The jacket is made out of a what feels like a fine cotton that has a bit heavier weight so it almost has a light canvas feel to it. The choice of this fabric helps hold it shape beautifully.
- The shoulders are soft, and the sleeves are wide and cut straight all the way to the cuff.
- The neckline curves around the neck coming with a slight notch at the very front. Six round deep blue buttons run down the front.
- The body of the jacket has an almost swing cut feel to it and this is where the fabric choice really comes into play to help hold the intended shape around the body.
- Two large top set pockets are set on the front and each one has a inch wide, raiding detail in white red and blue. That same braiding detail runs around the neck down the front and then circles to hem. More braiding loops around where the sleeves insert into the body of the jacket and each cuff is finished with it as well.
- The added texture and bright pop of colour that this braiding works is just phenomenal.
- It is an instant instantly recognizable YSL jacket that is easy to wear and is an easy way to add some vintage into your wardrobe.
- The jacket is unlined and close at the front with the buttons. Each pocket on the front is fully functional. It's generous cut should allow it to fit a range of sizes and it will just feel more oversized on smaller frames.
