In 1981 Haslton was still in full control of his brand. He had not yet signed the international licensing agreements (that was to happen in 1983) that would be the beginning of his downfall. In fact, at this point in the Halston history, he was at the top of his game and anyone who was anybody was wearing the Halston label. His prices were sky high and the work put into the pieces was impeccable.

The fabric for his beaded and sequin pieces were being made in India. Halston personally chose the fabrics and materials that were used for each piece of his main line collections. The 1981 collection was especially intricate and the majority of the runway garments were heavily beaded and/or sequinned. This jacket is gorgeous. It is made out of a cut work silk organza done in silver. The pattern is held together by looped stitching that run between the pieces and leave a hint of skin peeking through where there is an open space. Over this, and following the design, is an edging of silver glass tube beads and miniature pearls. These have all been hand applied and individually placed to give the jacket a swirling organic feel. In the book Halston, published by Phiadon, a similar piece in red is shown on Katherine Graham, the American publisher who led the Washington Post for more then two decades. Also from that book is a photo of Halston with models from the 1981 show and you can see the girl in the gold wearing a similar piece, belted with a sash, and worn over a skirt. That same book also had the orignal sketch of the piece too. Excellent condition.

The body of the jacket is fully lined in a grey silk chiffon and it closes at the front with hook and eye. All the work is done by hand. Small interior repair on one sleeve

Dorothy O'Hara pieces have one thing in common - seaming, sexiness and they are all about highlighting a girl's assets. O'Hara was based in California and was a favorite of starlets and wanna be starlets, renowned for her figure hugging and enhancing dresses - especially the ones done in black. Her signature is a curving fit that is created but panels and inset that cinch in the waist and create the illusion of that coveted hourglass figure. This little black beauty is no exception with clever draping and seaming details  that run down the front on an angle.  a panel swoops across and under the bust on one side and another swoops across the waist and over the hip on the other to end in a draped panel that forms the front skirt. The bust line is cut in a V and the shoulders are rounded and follow the arm to just above the wrist. This dress would date to the late forties early fifties and is wonderful. Excellent condition.

Partially lined through the front bust with a silky black rayon, the rest of the dress is unlined. Closes with a back painted metal zipper. Ribbon edged interior hems and hand finishes.

Purposely frayed edges and a whisper light silk in a snakeskin pattern make this wonderful little Resort 2011 Lanvin dress still feel fresh. Under the genius direction of Alber Elbaz, the collection was edgy but simple. Looks 4 & 25 shared the same print and once in production it was a series of simple shifts that went to the shops. I love pieces from the resort collections - designers do a tighter edit and often explore new ideas that may or may not end up on the next catwalk. They also tend to be more creative and production is smaller meaning less pieces are out there. The dress is a single layer of scarf weight silk so weighs almost nothing. The edges at the waist, neck and sleeves are left frayed and de-constructed - a favorite detailing of Alber's work. The shape is simple and easy and the print and color act as a neutral color wise allowing you to go wot pretty much any color for shoes and a bag. At the same time that print makes a statement and take the dress to another level. Excellent condition

The spring 2011 collection by Valli was met by rave reviews. Tim Blanks for Vogue said of this collection: "There's something about Giambattista Valli's clothes that is so fundamentally optimistic, they've got you at hello. Maybe it's the va-va-voom echoes of Rome in the sixties, a quintessential dolce vita moment that resounds through the decades. With today's show, it wasn't like the outfits themselves were retro, but there was a kicky energy that felt like it might have come from bright young things getting dressed up and following Valli, their pied piper, through noble streets to a hole in the wall where they'd have a hell of a time. Two words: "short" and "flat." As in dresses and shoes. We should probably add "sheer" to that list, because a Valli girl is shameless in her pursuit of pleasure." and Hamish Bowles added that "Giambattista Valliwas thinking about “the four R’s,” the qualities he associates with “all my front-row girls. They are romantic, rebel, rock, and royal!”

This dress was Look #20 on the runway and was part of the pieces that he did that featured this print. Here we have a shorter shift dress silhouette with a great sixties vibe. The inner dress has a larger version of the cat print with a second floating layer that is attached and gives it a little sleeve and airiness. The hem of the dress has a beautiful, thick white embroidery detailing. Once on it is very chic and simple and flattering. The contrast of the prints is allowed to shine and really acts as a neutral. Once small detail I love is that there are hidden pockets long each hip and each is lined in the same silk chiffon that the top overlay is constructed from. It's like a little secret touch that only the wearer knows. Excellent, appears unworn condition.

A hard to find, amazing seventies Christian Dior dress that is chic and simple and perfectly showcases why this brand has had such staying power. Cut like in a loose and easy cut with that perfect for this season midi length and done in a chic neutral. The color is very unusual - it is almost a shade of green but muted and combined with cream and taupe. The top is purposely cut to feel loose and easy  with a wide neckline that stops just short of being off shoulder and a tie above a small keyhole at the front. The sleeves are also cut with a soft and easy feel , full and wide above a piped cuff that ends mid-forearm and perfect to push up tot he elbow. It skims into a sleek column that will stretch to follow your curves from there. It comes with its original tie belt woven through the waist that allows you to add shape and adjust the length and amount the top poufs over. Presents as excellent condition with some tiny flaws noted below.

Unlined and slips over the head with a tie at the neck and through the waist. There are some tiny storage spots - one on the front near the keyhole and a couple on the sleeve. They may come out with additional cleaning but have been noted and the dress priced accordingly. The dress has a lot of potential stretch and the measurements below are those taken flat and to what we feel the comfortable outer ranges. This dress is from Galliano's main line and dates to the nineties - which one can see not only from the version of his label seen inside in the dress but readily in the lines of the dress itself. It's long lean silhouette and fitted body-con cut screams nineties and supermodels. This silhouette was out of fashion for a while but it is firmly back in fashion, and pieces like this feel fresh and new once again. Especially when they are such outstanding pieces like this one is. This pretty supermodel length dress showcases Galliano's love of both drape and cut. It is quite stunning and the simple design belies a masterful cut that uses the bias cut movement created by the weave of the fabric to hug and encase the body. When the dress is off the body it seems impossibly ling and skinny but once on the knit opens and curves around the body. The fabric has no content tag but feels like a silk raffia mix and the multiple weave techniques used give it interesting play and texture. That mixed with the dusky rose color make for one fabulous dress. It is so simple but so very sexy. Excellent condition

This little 1980s Norma Kamali is a fabulous example of her work during this time period and has that easy fullness of the eighties that seems so fresh yet again. The bodice is cut generously with a fullness that comes form the shoulders and curves into a loose cut bust that has a V neck to balance that fullness. Her signature shoulder pads add structure and the waist nips in and you can really cinch it with the attached ties. The skirt flares out from there, skimming over the hips and really opening out near the hem. There is a lot of fabric in the bottom of the skirt so you really get tremendous movement when you twirl. The fabric is a mix so keeps wrinkles at bay and wears well. I love the black and white design that covers it shoulder to hem. Excellent condition.

From the time period when John Galliano headed the house this is am gorgeous little dress from the main Dior line. It is a wonderful example of how he could be chic and subtle while still executing a sharply cut design. You often see a nod to the fifties and sixties in his work for Dior during this time period and never more so then here with this silhouette. It has that va-voom fitted cut of the fifties and is meant to skim and highlight a girls curves but in the most tasteful of ways. It is so easy to wear and has a delightful retro and feminine feel to it. The fabric choice - a lightweight fine wool & silk mix that allows the dress to hold its shape without having to add any interior structure. It bodice skims over the torso and has pretty pleats at the waist to cinch it in softly. The waist is further defined by the fabric belt shaped into a bow. Excellent condition

Azzedine Alaia is a master of knits and this is a wonderful example of his earlier work from the 80s. This has a definite eighties vibe to it with its dolman sleeve cut and his signature (from this period of time) matching colored snaps running down the back. It is one of those great pieces that can be worn shorter with the top creating more of a blouse over, or pulled down to tunic length. The fitted hip gives it that body conscious feel to it that Alaia pieces do while the fuller top balanced that out. The perfect sweater to work into a modern wardrobe and a great collectors peice. Excellent condition

This is an important and exceptional silk taffeta, wrap top and full length skirt with amazing and dramatic puffed sleeves. This Rive Gauche version would have been based on that Haute Couture gowns from the late seventies collection. It has no YSL label any longer but is clearly his work and bears the label of the Paris Department store W. Beresford on Rue St Honore. I have dated this to the 1980s collection based on the set worn by Iman (see attached) that bears a strikingly similar sleeve and wrap treatment, although it is even more elaborate on this version. Our example was done in his signature silk taffeta that is a stunning cherry red color, clear and true. The exorbitant double pouf treatment to the sleeves is just phenomenal. The skirt is extremely full and the photos do not do the amount of fabric in it justice. The sheer amount of fabric in the skirt is wonderful. The fabric choice allows it to be extremely light in weight and yet retain its shape and fullness. The top is wraps around the body and ties at the waist, creating a simple V plunge. Each sleeve is cut wide at the shoulder and then tapers gracefully to the wrist. Two tiers of that extraordinary pouf and gathered detailing adorn each sleeve ending in a narrow buttoned cuff. It is just wonderful and truly a work of art and an important piece of fashion history for the discerning collector. It is also very versatile since it is separates and the pieces can be worn together and presents as a gown, or you may pair them up with other pieces in your wardrobe. Very rare and museum worthy. It is exceptional in every possible way. Excellent condition. 

The top is unlined and wraps to close with a silk covered snap in the V of the bodice to hold it in place. Each cuff has 5 silk covered, functional buttons. The skirt closes with a zipper and hook & eye at the waist. It is fully lined in a fine tissue silk. Pockets on each side.

Note that if you adjusted the waist you could easily fit this on a smaller frame and if you are not very broad across the shoulders it should be fine on a larger one then the size medium equivalent listed. Note the color is a little more of a cherry pink red with a more blue undertone that the tomato red it photoed. It is even better in person!

Chic and sophisticated, for the girl that is addicted to the vintage version of the little black dress, it is impossible to go very long before a Norman Norell lands in her closet. His dresses are cut so masterfully with every line and seam placed exactly where it should be to flatter the body and create an air of sophistication without feeling like you are trying to hard. This particular dress is a fabulous example of just that and the lines are just lovely. It is a chic wool jersey sheath whose fabric has a bit of texture to it and a long and sleek line to the cut. The neckline is high and the upper bodice accented through the seaming with the armholes cut deep in his signature squared off cut. From there it falls in a sleek column with a half belt that buttons into place bringing in the waist very subtly to give just the hint of definition. Under this are to top set pockets that sit on the hip. More delicious details at the back with big buttons closing it. Don't be fooled by it's simplicity - it is seamed and constructed to couture levels and the finishes within it are superb. A classic that will last you a lifetime and then still be relevant. Excellent condition.

A Norman Norell suit is always a classic and this one is exceptional - both for its avant garde and modern feel and also that it has been done in that incredible pink color. The fabric is a decent weight for a boucle but it is not so thick that it too heavy to wear. Just a well made, excellent quality weight.The skirt is cut slim and straight and falls just past the knee (note in the picture the skirt bubbles out on the side a touch - this is the angle of the mannequin's hip and it sits perfect on a real girl). The jacket is cropped just above the waistline and feels so modern at this length. I love the huge matte round buttons that close it too - they are an unusual choice and really add to the suits appeal. It is very chic and structured in feel. It is also impeccably made with lots of couture level hand finishes put into the construction. This piece (and others to come) were sourced by my fellow dealer and collaborator, David Sheflin, and are from a collection of runway samples and custom made pieces. All the Norell's to list in the near future, including this one, were sourced from one the house models. She dated this one as from the 1963-655 time period or near to that. Excellent condition.

Both pieces are fully lined in a cream hand set silk. The jacket closes down the front with buttons and the skirt closes with a hand set back zipper, with a large snap and flat hook & eye at the waist Proper finished button holes and pockets along each seam at the hip. Hand finished throughout and weights in the lining of the skirt so it sits proper. Made to demi-couture standards. The color is best shown in the label photo.

The twin of this one was photoed  for the Bloomingdales lingerie catalogue in 1976 by Guy Bourdin giving it the most amazing provenance.  Kloss was a contemporary of Ossie Clark and his pieces often have that same British sense of sexiness during this time period.

This is one of my favourite John Kloss pieces I have ever had in the shop. John Kloss for Circa pieces were originally intended to be worn as lingerie. Most of the ones that you find are too thin or too sheer to wear as proper dresses now. But every once in a while you find a fabulous little exception like this. The cut of this one is simple but very sexy. The front has a twisted halter detail with an open cut out. It flows down from there in a column of bias cut nylon jersey. A very high slit runs up the front to show a ton of leg. Kloss was genius at choosing extremely high quality nylons that held the colour well and would drape exactly as he wished. He worked mainly in solid colours but this feather print was an exception and became a signature. Excellent condition.

The classic shift dress from the sixties never seems to go out of style and when its as great as this little option it is easy to see why. Victor Costa was particularly great at taking high end designs and making versions that were more affordable but still of a really good quality. His earlier pieces especially seem to stand up to time.  This particular dress is a great example of that. It is made of a metallic brocade that has weight enough to hold its shape but is not so thick as to feel awkward when worn. The colors are lovely - a pale blush, or nude pink tint mixes with black and silver. The cut is simple with now sleeves and a body skimming line.  The skirt has just a touch of a little A-line flare. I love the attached embellished belt that allows you to cinch it on or wear it loose and low. Its encrusted with big jet black faceted beads, rhinestone attached to silver cording and velvet ties. Hidden side pockets are the perfect finish. Excellent condition.

Interlined in cream silky rayon and closes at the back with a painted metal zipper. The attached belt is in fantastic condition, original and made of a black velvet with silver cording, beads and rhinestones. It closes with hook & eye so can be easily adjusted for the perfect fit if needed.

This wonderful little black dress is from the time period that Sophie Gimbel was designing the Saks in-house ready-to-wear line and her pieces were very expensive. Most of the custom pieces like this one, had extraordinary little details and were extremely well made. This dress does not have a Sophie designated tag but it does have its custom order tag which also conveniently dates it exactly for us: 9-30-60. It is almost certainly a Sophie design and because of the lack of that identifying tag it is a super deal price wise as the addition of the tag alone would add several hundred dollars to the price I have here. The dress is a stunning black silk taffeta that has a black cord applique applied as well as lace trim. The applique work covers the bodice and circles the hem in a wide panel. The sleeves, neck and hem are also finished with a feminine black lace - and on the hem the bottom panel of lace also is the cord detail applied. This would be all hand done fabric and impossible to replicate at this quality now. The bodice is kept sweet and simple with a high neck and gently curving shoulder. Under the skit is a built in black silk light crinoline to the shape is kept beautifully. It is just wonderful and a rare find. Excellent condition

Fully interlined in a black silk organza and has an inner black silk taffeta crinoline for volume. It closes with a back painted metal zip and the interior crinoline closes with hook and eye. Wonderfully made and hand finished.

This is the second time I have had this dress in this size but this version is perfect, unlike the first that had a teeny flaw. It's one of the most recognizable and coveted of the Radley pieces and if you are an Ossie Clark fan then you instantly recognized this dress since it was one of his designs while he was designing for that label. It is perhaps the most famous of all the dresses he designed while at Radley and I love it. The dress is made of his signature moss crepe and it has just enough stretch to instantly cling to the body but without being skin tight. It has a strong nod to the forties in the cut and that touch of Ossie's signature sexuality in the way the buttons are set to leave little gaps of skin showing through. It is meant to be worn with nothing underneath as Ossie Clark designed all of his dresses to be worn. The shoulders are a pretty black chiffon through which the skin peaks through. The neck can be worn closed or left open. A real find. Excellent condition.

Unlined and closes at the front with a tightly spaced row of moss crepe fabric covered buttons and a tie at the top of the neck. The moss crepe does have a bit of stretch. Tagged a vintage Radley UK12 but please check actual measurements as it runs smaller.

This Giorgio di Sant'Angelo dress is piece made in collaboration for Raymodes and these were all done prior to 1976 when he officially dropped the "di" from his own main label. It is an interesting little piece as it really showcases his early work but because it is not his own mainline the pricing is far lower then what it would be otherwise. He still would have designed and oversaw the production of this so you are not getting someone else's work - just a different version of his own. Even without any pedigree the dress is utterly fantastic. It is made of a hand washable fabric that has a gorgeous and vibrant bird design over its surface.The neckline is in his signature squared off cut with wide straps that curve up and around each shoulder. I love the lace and velvet ribbon detailing on the bright cotton and all the colors used. The body of the dress billows out quite full from under that right to the floor in a wide expanse of fabric. Big piped pockets sit on each hip and there is matching fabric belt that you can wear to add shape - though I love it equally  with the belt left off and worn full. It is cut to fit quite easily through the body. A great little summer piece and if it does not get snatched up quickly - might find its way into my own closet. Excellent condition

This fabulous and sexy 1970s Leonard maxi dress is a find. It is made from his signature silk jersey fabric and this choice of fabric gave these long maxi length dresses the perfect drape and fit. It is that perfect balance of being easy to wear and still staying insanely sexy but without being overtly so. Each of his designs were made from custom designed fabrics and during this time period in particular, they were all the most gorgeous color palettes, like this mix of bright flowers on a black backdrop. I love the fitted halter cut through bodice and the back that is left almost bare. This barely there top perfectly balances the maxi skirt that flows to the floor in a swoop of bias cut silk jersey. There is a good amount of fabric through the skirt which allows for more of that pretty design to be seen whenever you move. I love the V neckline and signature contrasting borders that define the neckline, halter strap and hem. It also runs down the back for a pretty finishing detail. A real little beauty. Excellent condition.

Unlined and closes with a low back back, metal and nylon zipper with two fabric covered buttons and loops at the back of the halter neck. The fabric is a silk jersey and does have some stretch - the measurements given are the comfortable stretch when laying out flat. The fabric is signed throughout. Because there are no true side seams at the bust you do have some range there.

This is a lovely and feminine little strapless dress in a pearl or champagne colored silk with pretty lace details. There was no label in the dress but luckily the matching fabric belt was stamped with its Parnes Feinstein label so the designer of the dress is known. The Feinstein label began in 1948 and I suspect that this dress was made just a few years into that, perhaps in the early fifties. You can see the influence of both the 40s and the "New Look" movement. The skirt is cut in a slightly exaggerated A-line so has that fullness feel of the fifties but really makes you look long and lean still. I photoed it with no crinoline underneath. It is not a true circle skirt by any means but I think you could wear a light crinoline under the skirt if you did want more fullness. The bodice is strapless and has the most lovely lace detailing that runs around the top edge and highlights the bodice and also adorns each hip pocket. Very romantic feeling and pretty. Presents as excellent condition.

Unlined and closes with a side painted metal zipper. There are some tiny pinholes on an area near the hem of the front (photoed) and a smaller area at the back of the skirt at hip level that does not detract from the overall beauty - the skirt has enough fabric that once on they get lost. They did not worsen when it was cleaned so I have left it as found. Priced accordingly. Only the belt is labeled.

This amazing 1970s Chloe may be from Karl Lagerfeld time with the label as it has that feel but I could not verify that - which is a bonus for the girl that buys it as the price would be far more if I could have. Regardless, it is a stunning dress that works much, much better on a real girl then it does on the mannequin. The excessive volume through the body of the dress transforms on a body to movement. The drama of the wide cut sleeves does not translate in the photos - they need to be on a body and moving so that the richness of the silk really shows off. The color of the silk is absolutely gorgeous - it is a soft blush pink - a touch richer in hue in person then how it photoed. This nude pink contrasts against the black print and the rich velvet collar beautifully. The silk is very fine and of Hermes scarf weight so feels like you are wearing a wisp of air. It is a very simple dress that flows from the shoulder and gently widens as it nears the hem. The sleeves are cut wide and full. The collar is made of velvet and curves up and around the neck. From there is flows into an upper shoulder that also curves into place. The silk is gathered into this shoulder detail with softly gathered pleats. Excellent condition

Unlined and made of a very fine, high grade scarf weight silk. It closes with a series of domed black buttons on the back of the neck. The open cut will fit a variety of sizes

This is a lovely and classic little dress that is quintessentially female and an absolutely lovely piece. It is constructed from a high quality cream silk that holds the sculptural shape of the dress very well but is not too heavy to wear once on. The top is cut in a simple design with straps that curve up and around each shoulder. The front has a pretty squared off neckline and notched front. I love the little fabric flower that sits at the front at the base of the notch - it is a pretty little detail that softens and adds to the feel of femininity the dress has. The shape though the waist is all created by beautiful and curved seams that run vertically over the dress - this technique uses a lot of fabric and is the kind of detail that you see more often in vintage then in new anymore. The skirt flows over the hips and is cut on an A-line with a beautiful sculptural feeling to it. A really pretty and classic piece. Excellent condition

Unlined and closes with a back metal zipper. There is the teeniest of nips near the hem - easily removed if you wish to shorten an inch but they are almost invisible unless you have it flat and are looking for them. There is no yellowing ot the fabric - if any of the pictures look that way it is the light only. The color in person is a little deeper and more creamier then shown.

I adore the bright true purple color of this little Thierry Mugler dress and the use of the parachute silk. That fabric choice gives it a really interesting texture yet the entire dress weighs very little since the fabric is so light in weight. The contrast between the extremely light fabric and the structured feel of the dress is just super. His cuts always have a feel of sexiness to them mixed the power dressing vibe of the nineties. The dress has a strong shouldered and wraps and snaps into place. The seam of the skirt is curved for a pretty detail and the sleeves left to end at the elbows. The buckled belt cinches in the waist and has a fabulous little angled buckle on it. It has almost safari feel to it despite the strong color and walks that line between utilitarian and vixen. Excellent condition.

This fabulous little Emilio Pucci dress is particularly special as it still retains its original belt with its crystal bead tassels. These belts were hand made by Coppola e Toppo and are well documented. I have seen these sold on their own for several hundred dollars and even girl using them as necklaces so you are really getting a little extra for your dollar with it being present. The color palette of this gorgeous Pucci dress is also quite fabulous and the dress is made from his signature lightweight silk jersey. The custom screened designs is still as vibrant as when it was made and I love the mix of rich purples. It slips over the head and has an unusual slanted button closure at the base of the collared neckline - this is a detail I have not seen before. Skinny sleeves and a forgiving cut through the body are key Pucci elements and you can use the belt to give it more shape or wear it loose and easy. The entire dress weighs ounces and is wonderfully bright and happy in feel as all great Pucci's are. Excellent condition.

A year or so ago I had the dress that matches this coat and I am sad that I did not find the two at the same time. I have since dated both after finding a reference photo in Vogue. Regardless of that this is an absolutely gorgeous Malcolm Starr coat with superb detailing. It is made of a felted wool with a gorgeous print that covers its surface in an unusual combination of blues, olives and deep corals mixed with pops of white. It closes neatly down the front with a row of brass cut out dome buttons encrusted with rhinestones that add a little sparkle and glitz. I love the slim cut that gently flares out as it nears the hem. A small round collar sits prettily at the neck and is detailed with a gold ribbon edging. This same gold runs down the front and circles each cuff. Lovely lines, well made and stunning detail - all adding up to a really wonderful little coat. Excellent condition.

Fully lined in a deep blue silk and buttons to close. I see no missing rhinestones on any buttons. Silk lined pockets along the front seams. Finished button holes.

Valentino pieces are always stunning and I love how the recent resurgence of the house really stays true to Mr. Valentino's original vision that you can see so clearly in pieces like this. This is a stunning piece and could easily be a piece form the recent Valentino runway - many of the pieces have this same feel and attention to detail with the fabric choices as this one does. You can clearly see the influence of the nineties in this piece with its nod to sportswear in that racerback halter. This gives it a sexy little sports touch while still keep the dress at a high glamour level. The most striking thing about the dress is its elaborate silk netting exterior, dyed a soft dusky pink with hand applique detailing of lace and hand beading. The netting has been treated so it has an almost starched feel but without being so stiff it does not move - it has just enough so that it holds the shape it is meant to be. The applique and beads follow the lines of the dress like a vine trailing over the surface from top to bottom. All of the bead work is done by hand and because the colors of the beads are meant to match it just adds a depth and level of texture rather then being flashy. On the inside it is immaculately constructed with a cup built in at for the breasts so no undergarment is needed and it is finished with two layers of fine, light pink silk chiffon inside. It is almost weightless and stunningly beautiful - a real work of art. Exactly what one would expect from Valentino. Excellent condition.

Closes with a hidden, hand set, side painted zipper. Fully lined using two feather light layers of pink silk chiffon. A built in cup sits inside the bodice for coverage. The exterior is made of two layers of hand dyed netting that is connected by the beading, applique work and seaming. All the beads are hand applied and this can clearly be seen on the reverse side.

Valentino pieces are always so pretty and I love how the resurgence of the house really stays true to Mr. Valentino's vision that you can see so clearly in pieces like this. This beautiful dress dates from the late 70s, maybe the early 80s, and has all the elements you look for in a Valentino. The fabric is beautiful - its a deep blue silk silk chiffon that flows and drapes wonderfully once on. The shoulders have a pretty and romantic caped effect with a panel of fabric circling around the shoulders to meet at the front and a pretty chiffon bow. Underneath is a more fitted bodice that narrows to a nipped in waist. The skirt is cut on the bias and ends in a ruffle that picks up on the cut of the cape detail. It also is cut so that the back lies longer down then the front and has lots of movement. Wonderful condition with a couple small flaws noted below.

The dress is fully interlined in second layer of the same silk chiffon and has an interior grosgrain ribbon around the waist that hooks to close. It closes with a back painted metal zipper. There are some small marks on the skirt and a water stain on the ties at the front - these are apparent when the dress is laid out and flat but once on the amount of fabric drapes and you do not notice these flaws. Priced far down from what it would be otherwise so is a steal.

This dramatic scarf arm silhouette was wildly popular in the late sixties and this is a great example of that look. It is made of a silk crepe that has a lovely floral print screened over it in with the print washed over at the edges like a fine watercolor. It has a simple cut mixed with the drama of the arms and is a real little beauty. The bodice is cut to skim over the bust with a scooped neckline and back. The waist nips in with vertical seaming placed to suggest and create that hour glass shape. The skirt is slim and done in a pencil cut with the fitted curves of the dress acting as the perfect contrast to those sleeves. Each appears to start at the neck which is draped with an attached scarf detailing at the front and back. This gives the illusion that the panels that make up each arm drapes crosses over the neck as well. The sleeves are of course the show stopper - each trails down to meet the hem of the dress and are left open just after the shoulder and right down tot he hem. They are beautiful and dramatic. Excellent condition.

Fully lined in a white silky ribbed rayon with the sleeves left unlined. Closes with a back metal zipper. There looks to be a minor repair to each end of the seam that sits just above where the sleeves open. The work is decently done and looks old so has been left as found.

Every once in a while I get a dress that comes with a larger group of clothing that is not quite perfect. When they are super cute, like this one, and still have so much life in them like this one does, and are still completely wearable, I will break my normal rule of only posting things for you that are pretty perfect and post something with a small imperfection and dramatically reduce the price. This little Geoffrey Beene dress is darling and I love the bright and cheerful print that covered the surface. It is made of a silk twill and has those vibrant colors typical of the sixties - a mix of yellow, coral, blue and green - colors that should not work together but somehow do in the swirling design that he chose. The dress is a simple shift that has a loose and easy fit. The collar is high and it buttons down the front with a series of fabric covered buttons and loops. The sleeves are long and cuffed and I love the little hidden pockets that sit along the front seams. You can wear it as is or add a belt to instantly add shape. Great overall condition

The dress is fully lined in yellow silk and slip over the head to wear with a button front. Hidden fabric covered snaps at each wrist. Hand finishes and a ribbon edged interior hem. Hidden pockets along the seam. Its flaw is a discoloration that runs across the pattern at the button front. I have photoed it for you. It has been dry cleaned and this did not budge. You could potentially shorten in to get rid of all or most of it or just wear it as is. Priced accordingly

This is so similar in cut to the mainline Traina label dress I have in the shop right now that I feel that this one must have been produced for the boutique based on the design of the other. Geoffrey Beene worked for the Traina label from 1958 through to 1963 and I feel that this must be one of his designs as like the green one I have listed, it has very strong Beene design elements. I have seen similar pieces from him later from his own label and its fascinating to see what is probably an early piece of the evolution of one of the great American designers. This version is remarkable and still has its original hang tags.  It is full length and made of a combination of a printed chiffon and a satin finish crepe bodice. Where the other dress I have was embroidered this one is screened with a gorgeous print that highlights the skirt and sleeves. The skirt is cut full and gathers into the waist and is topped by simple bodice that buttons up the front with big frog knots. I adore the wide, balloon cut sleeves and how they come out from the waist to create volume that balances the fullness of the skirt. Shape is created with an attached fabric belt that cinches in the waist or allows you to keep it loose and easy. It is very pretty. Excellent condition

The skirt is lined in a second layer of black chiffon and the bodice is lined in a black silk. The sleeves are unlined. It closes at the front with frog buttons. Hidden fabric covered snaps close each sleeve. Has original tags. It's never been worn but was cleaned. I see two areas on the fabric of the bodice that are slightly thinned, as well as a small spot on the upper shoulder - I have photoed these. All are strong and stable and did not worsen with cleaning. Priced accordingly.

I am obsessed with velvet Pucci's right now. The depth of color and the richness of the fabric feels so right again. especially with all the velvet that modern designers are showing on the runways again. Of course, among vintage collectors, this is the fabric that has always been one the most prized to find. Each piece is equally strong on its own and though sold as a set, I think the girl who snatches this up will get as much use, if not more, out of it by wearing them as separates so they shine in their own right. The skirt is a gorgeous flat fronted cut that flows out into a wide A-line. This really allows that print to be shown off and gives a beautiful, sculptural line as it falls to the floor.  It buttons completely open so you can allow as much leg as you wish to show. The jacket slips on and buttons to close and has an almost denim jacket cut to it - cropped and fitted. You can easily wear it on its own without anything under it or layer it over other pieces. The colors are fabulous - that classic vivid Pucci motif - and it is so versatile since you can wear it as shown or as separates. This is a very rare and covetable set. Excellent condition

The jacket is fully lined in a black, hand set silk faille and closes with hidden set mother-of-pearl buttons at the front. The skirt is lined with a black muslin also hand set. It also closes with a series of hidden set MOP buttons down the front. The very last button on the skirt is missing and some of the buttons show chipping around there edges. None show when its on so this is mentioned for accuracy only. Both pieces are tagged as vintage Pucci 12s but of course check measurements as this does not correlate to modern sizing.

When researching this piece the most similar thing I could find reference wise was the photo (attached) from the 1983 show but the tags on this piece date to later then that and I am guessing that it is from the late nineties perhaps. Regardless of the date it is a fabulous example of her work with its nod to deconstruction and her punk roots. The pieces are knit and a loose open weave so are semi-transparent, making them shocking if worn over undergarments alone or one can make them feel more safe by layering them over other pieces. The top is cut tank style with a crossed back strap. As in the skirt she mixes two knits - a neutral shot through with pink thread that has a thicker more ribbed feel, topping a almost spiderweb thread fine silk knit. The front of the tank is painted with a gilt design. The skirt is magnificent, cut super model length with that same duo knit used. I love the raw edges and the way it clings to the body and trails behind. In person the finer knit present as more a mulled raspberry - the photos and transparency in the camera's light wash the color out a bit. It's never been worn and still has its original tag and sample tag attached. Excellent condition with one small note below

Both piece pull on the wear and the knit has stretch. Maybe even a little more then what is listed below but the measurements given are at a comfortable stretch. It acts a little like a bias cut once on a shortens up a bit depending on your curves. Elastic through the skirt waist. One small repair to the top. I see the occasional pull in the knit but can't honestly say they are not intended to be there - the bottom hem displays this as well and it all looks deliberate. Tagged a MED.

This is a gorgeous Givenchy dress made of an absolutely exquisite fabric. It is a chocolate silk voile that has had these little soft lavender bits of silk fused directly into the fabric. The very outer edges of the little purple bits have been left with a sift raw delicate fringe so the appliqué work has a slight texture and depth to it. It is very unusual and beautiful. The color combination is also unusual and I love the two together. The top portion of the dress is cut to mimic a blouse with a button up front and sleeves are long and cut to slight puff out above their cuffs. The collar is kelpt neat and rounded and a yoke details runs across the shoulders. This tops a long skirt that widens out softly as it nears the ground and has hidden pockets along the tucked in front seaming. The original tie is present to cinch in the waist and create shape. It's extremely chic when on and I love that it buttons completely down the front so if you wish you can leave it open at the neck or skirt for a flash of skin to show. Presents as excellent condition with a small condition flaw to note below

Fully lined in a brown silk organza and has very well finished interiors. The dress buttons completely down the front and each cuffs buttons to close. The original waist tie belt is present. Note that there are some tiny scattering so of pinholes on the back of the dress. All seem stable and are barely noticeable. None worsened when it was cleaned. There is perhaps a light fading on the top of each sleeved shoulder. These are all very minor and not apparent once on. I have adjusted the price accordingly Hand finished

Supermodel length and made of yards and yards of a fabulous white jersey that drapes and moves divinely, this Frank Usher dress will make you feel like a Grecian Goddess. Everything about it feels like it belongs on the red carpet and it has a fabulous sexiness to it. The white jersey drapes to perfection and the cut is wonderful and flattering. It is cut completely on the bias so the dress falls and drapes to follow your curves. The skirt is long and lean with a tremendous amount of fabric in it - when you are standing still it falls in a graceful column but when you move you get a nice sweep of fabric. The waist is defined by a hand applied banding of tube beads mixed with little silver balls. The bodice of the dress has strong shoulders that somehow still feel soft and feminine, with the fabric falling from the shoulders in soft pleats. At the front it is cut to plunge to the waist. The back is closed with a series of fabric covered buttons and they are set so you get a glimpse of skin through each. It is old Hollywood Madame Gres meets Studio 54 with a great mix of elegance, sexiness and a feeling of timelessness. Excellent condition

The top is unlined. The skirt is fully lined with a white silky rayon. It closes with a low back painted metal zipper. Above that it buttons up the back with a series of fabric covered buttons. Softly padded shoulders.

The Salvadori label is not a common one and little is known about his work overall. He was one of those amazing small couture houses based out of Paris that was doing amazing work but seems to have only lasted for a short time before disappearing into the annals of fashion history. This little found treasure from that label is just wonderful and if this is what his work looked like I wish I could find a roomful of it. This little sleeveless tunic is just long enough for a brave girl to pull it off as a micro mini if she dares. It is just delicious and has so many fabulous vintage details and made to a high level of demi-couture workmanship and technique. The straps that curve up and around the shoulders are wide and adorned with hand placed rhinestones and bright jewels. These adorn the square cut neck in a wide panel that is carried to both the front and back. It curves in slightly at the waist and then flares out to create a sculpted little skirt. I love the strong top set pockets on each hip that have more jewels and rhinestones. The fabric itself is a thick corded and ribbed cotton that holds the intended shape perfectly. Excellent condition.

Fully lined in a white silk and closes with a back painted metal zipper. The white is crisp and fresh. I see one missing green stone at the back (see photo) otherwise no other missing stones or rhinestones. Primarily hand finished.

In the seventies caftan fever was at an all time high and many of the top designers of the day designed options for their clients who still wanted to wear a brand name. This fabulous multi-print piece is from Bill Blass and combines his masterful eye in cut with a fabulous mix of prints. It is perfect to be worn as a chic day-to-evening maxi dress. I love everything about the lines of this piece. The shoulders are slim with a high contrasting print neckline that zips open to allow you to wear it completely closed and high or as low as you dare. This same print that adorns the collar runs down the front and curves up each side, becoming more apparent as the caftan widens out as it nears the floor. Each sleeve is cut wide and straight for fullness. When you are standing still it settles perfectly about you but when you move you really get the sense of the amount of fabric that is there. It is made of a crisp cotton, custom screened in two distinctive prints - the front is a fantastical mixture of dragons done in deep blues and olives while the sleeves and back are fully covered in a pretty, deliberately washed and muted floral print that is made to give the feel on antiquity. A really fabulous and wearable caftan that is also highly collectible. Excellent condition

This little piece by Leonard is one of those great staples to add to your wardrobe. It can work as a tunic or as a mini and with a quick change of acceories can go from casual to dressy in a flash. Leonard Paris is a label that was a contemporary of Pucci and very sought after. This one is a delicious combination of vivid ocean colors mixed in a swirling and curving pattern. It is cut to skim over the body in a straight cut that is flattering on almost all bodies and made of a fine silk jersey that holds the colors wonderfully. The length will allow you to wear it as a mini dress to show off miles of legs or layer over pants or skirts. I love the high neckline and the contrasting panel of design that finishes the cuffs and hem. It is super easy to wear and to travel with and the cut is very flattering. The dress is a strong statement piece and still so very chic now. Excellent condition.

Ann Buck was one of the British designers during the 1970s and her label is a little harder to find then some of her contemporaries. This particular dress actually reminds me of some f the Jean Muir pieces I have had in the shop and it is interesting to wonder who influenced who. Like Muir and many of her fellow designers of this time period she was using and working with fluid flowing jerseys and this piece is an outstanding example of just that. The jersey used is very fluid and has a wonderful drape and movement to it. It was hand screened with colorful dashes of color from top to bottom - little kites with trailing tails. It is cut very loose through the body with deep set arms and a flowing swinging skirt that has a bit of a forties feel to it. The cut makes it very forgiving on lots of body types. I love the red leather trim with its little dot and diamond cut outs that adorn the cuffs  and run as piping over each shoulder. The neck is adorned with the same treatment but in a black suede. Excellent condition

Unlined and closes with snaps down the front. Each sleeve snaps to close at the cuff. This dress came with a belt that I believe is the original but is not marked - it is photoed separately. It will be included but please note that unlike the dress which is excellent condition the belt is not - it shows wear and cracking. It was priced based on the dress alone.

The designer behind the Helga label and her partner/husband were avid collectors of art and it is said that they used their trips to Europe to not only buy fabric but to buy art. Helga's dresses always have this clean. almost sculptural line in them and I think that heavy influence of extended trips to Europe mixed with endless parties and soirees within the art world play a heavy influence on her pieces. They are also very well made - this one is made to demi-couture standards - and the fabrics she brought back from those trips of the highest quality. Here we have a dress that is that classic beautiful fifties silhouette with fairly simple lines and yet still has a sense of drama and couture. The skirt is full and sits slightly dropped from the curved in waist line. It has an interlining of silk organza that helps to retail the fullness and the rounded soft pleats that are set into the seam at the hip help as well. The shape you see is the skirt itself with no additional crinolines added. Having that seam sit just below the actual waist and the fabric above curved and seamed in, give the illusion of an even smaller waist and hourglass figure.  A large flat bow sits at the base of the waist and above that the fabric is almost sculpted to the body with  beautifully cut curved seams defining the neckline. The back plunges quite low into a deep V. Very chic. Excellent condition.

The skirt is fully interlined in black silk organza and the bodice part lined in silk with little cups at the breast. The finish is primarily by hand throughout. It closes with a back painted metal zipper.

The interesting thing about John Kloss for Circa pieces are that they were originally intended as lingerie pieces. This makes the vast majority of piece that one finds too thin or too sheer to wear as proper dresses now. But every once in a while you find a fabulous little exceptions like this\. I love the feather print - these are the most rare and if you love this one you might also want to take a peek at the other version I have in the shop at the moment. John Kloss was a contemporary of Ossie Clark and I love how you can see that same British sense of sexiness in his pieces. This gown has a simple but sexy cut that really shows off the body once on. The front has an intricate twisting detail that creates an almost scandalous plunging front that is cut wide to show off almost the full expanse of skin across the upper bust. From there it flows to the floor in a column of bias cut nylon jersey. A slit up the front shows miles of leg. Kloss was genius at choosing extremely high quality nylons that held the color well and would drape exactly as he wished. Excellent condition.

Unlined and slips on to wear. Tagged a vintage Kloss for Circa Medium but please check measurements. Edges are finished with his signature cross stitch. The fabric does have some stretch so the size range is slightly more variable then usual.

Annacat is a label that is very hard to find and rare. When you do find one and it is as sexy and delicious as this one is you really feel like celebrating. In its day, Annacat piece were featured often in editorials for Vogue UK and Harper's. The label was a heavy favorite of the fashion insiders at the time and worn by the "it girls" and rock stars of the day. This full length maxi dress is an amazing example of the best of what they were producing and why there were wait lists to get your hands on their dresses back then. The bodice is gathered along the center halter piece that ties up and around the back of the neck. Then, each side of the bodice extends into a long fabric tie that you wrap and tie around the waist or tie at the back and leave trailing down. This design leaves the back completely open and bare so it is insanely sexy. The waist nips in with the front halter extending into a wide panel right down the front - it almost acts like a huge pendant or neck piece. The skirt has yards and yards of fabric and it moves wonderfully as it is all cut on the bias. The silk is a good weight and a delicious burnt amber color. It is a very rare and very fabulous vintage piece that still feels shockingly modern and sexy. Excellent condition.

This is a stunning little dress and I believe the label lands it right after the time period when Gianni Versace was designing for the house. I don't think this particular label was from his time period so the dress has been priced on its own merit without the Versace influence. It does have elements that he later used so if this was not done by him it was most certainly influenced by his time there. It is made of a fine black crepe with an interesting graphic white print over its surface. The bodice is cut loose and easy with a wide cut through the rounded shoulders. The skirt is very interesting with a bubble cut that is puffed and brought in to float over a more fitted band at the hem. This allows you to wear it loose and longer or to use the band to pull it up and around the upper though or hip to create a variety of lengths from mid-though to micro mini. Very innovative. Excellent, appears unworn condition.

You just cannot go wrong with one of Dolce and Gabbana's leopard print pieces. Its a signature pattern that they have woven through almost every collection since their first collection in 1985. I Absolutely love the vintage vibe that their dresses all seem to have and the strong and powerful cuts that their feminine dresses all share. This dress has a wonderful and unusual combination of patterns mixed with a fitted silhouette. The photos really don't do it justice in capturing how wonderful the two fabrics work together in person and how they play off of each other. The top fabric is a silk jersey leopard print and cut so it skim over the bust and falls in soft drapes around the waist. This goes perfectly with the beautiful silk chiffon, floral printed skirt. The skirt is also gathered and draped softly so it skims over the curves and defines them without being vulgar. Very pretty and flattering. Excellent, appears unworn condition.

This dress is so adorable in person it makes me happy to just look at it. Plus, it had the added bonus of having the coveted, earliest Janice Wainwright at Forty Seven Poland Street label. Pieces with this label are from the beginning of her career and for me, really showcase her talent and are among the very best of her work. This pretty little bohemian spirited dress is made of a black polyester chiffon and simply slips over the head to wear. The waist is elastic to allow you to do this and the cut above and below the waist is simple and easy. The bodice has a pretty plunge front and  loose fit through the bust and pleated ruffled finishes on each little wide cut sleeve. Her signature embroidery abounds with a good deal of the front, shoulder and back covered with embroidered flowers. The skirt is swingy and has that same pleated ruffle finish circling the hem. It's just wonderful and could well be off the runway of this very season. A fantastic and versatile piece. Excellent, museum quality condition!

Marni dresses always are a bit quirky and walk that line between geek chic and high end fashion. You can easily spot a Marni dress for its fashion forward lines and ease that it falls over the body. Rarely do they hug a girl's curves in an overt fashion but rather skim over the body in a soft manner that is easy to wear and yet feels avant garde. This dress has a cream base and is made of 100% cotton that is meticulously cut despite its easy ad loose appearance. It is like a modern take on the sack dress with a scooped front and back neckline. It expands out through the waist and curves slightly back in at the hem. When worn loose and easy it emphasizes the legs and yet the fabric will also all you to cinch it in and really play with the length so it can instantly turn into something quite sexy. Very chic and very Marni. Excellent condition

This lovely little See by Chloe dress is from a few seasons ago but still feels fresh. It is made out of a black netting that has gold leafs embroidered over its surface. The bodice is set high in an empire that plunges low into the band that sits just under the bust. It does the same at the back giving it a sexy but simple feel. The skirt balloons out from under the bust and is gathered up and under the hem slightly so you get this saucy little pouf. This one sold out quite quickly when it was in season and is still a super dress to throw on for cocktails. Excellent condition.

This bold gown by Valentino is a testament to his innovative use of fabrics and attention to detail. The top is done in a classic classic Valentino red silk crepe that has a waffle weave design running through the fabric giving it an extra layer of texture and interest. The shoulders are strong and padded to create that perfect eighties silhouette with sleeves are kept long and lean to balance it out. The front plunges to the top of the wide and gathered waist band that gives shape and balance between the strong upper and lower portions of the gown. The skirt is a work of art in itself and is really the centerpiece of this gown. The cut is sculpted and shaped to curve out from below the cinched in waistline. It is made of an emerald green silk and set into the waist by softly gathered pleats that circle the waist that help to give it the volume and shape you see. To further help with this shape there are panels of stiffened net attached within the interior of the skirt at the hip. Circling the skirt are scattered, round cut out medallions that are each backed with a red silk the same hue as the top. Each of those cut outs featured a beautiful little angelic cupid that is detailed hand set rhinestones. The gown is extraordinarily well made and very unusual. Excellent, museum quality condition

The top is lined with a red silk organza chiffon and the skirt is fully lined in silk with stiffened net all around the hips to increase the volume there. It closes with a back painted zipper and has padded shoulders. Each sleeve zips to close. There are the occasional small pulls here and there on the top. Nothing that detracts but it is mentioned for accuracy.

Judy Hornby was a London designer that moved to New York in 1970s and one of the pieces under her label was even was bestowed the "dress of the year" for 1971 by the Fashion Museum in Bath. She designed under Judith Hornby through the seventies and sometime in the late seventies changed to Judy Hornby, the label that this dress has. She loved a spiral, bias cut and her dresses feel like they slide on and wrap around you to both cling to the body and skim over your curves. It makes the dress very comfortable to wear as well. This one is just lovely with layers of a pale pink silk chiffon shot through with metallic thread. I love the use of pink and gold lame thread through the fabric - it adds a beautiful richness to the design and also serves to highlight the cut. Following the spiral cut are payers of silk that curve and wrap around the body to create fantastical ruffles that fall all the way to the floor. The front neckline is cut high and the entire dress clings to your curves and drapes into place. At the back there is a low plunging V that shows off a bare expanse of skin with a simple tie at the back neck to keep it in place. It has her signature bold puff shoulder that narrow to skinny wrists. It is very sexy when on and I feel like she was strongly influences by Ossie Clark's famous "spiral dress", using that as a springboard to a creation that ends up being very wonderfully eighties. Excellent condition

Fully lined in pink bias cut tissue silk and slips on to wear. The spiral bias cut allows for a range of sizes as it can expand quite a bit yet fall into place on a smaller frame without ruining the lines.

The color of this wonderful caftan dress is fantastic - it is a deep rich pink in a brilliant jeweled hue. It is cut with a gathered and ruched neckline and upper bodice where the fabric has been gathered with tiny cross stitched thatch work for a pretty and romantic detail. A silk chiffon tie was then added at the neck for a little extra detailing. This same cross stitch effect is picked up again on each wide cuff. The sleeves are left unlined so you get a pretty contrast in fabric weight. The dress flows out from the upper shoulder in a cascade of silk that drapes to the ground. You can wear it loose as shown or easily add instant shape by adding a belt or swath of fabric around the waist. The print on the silk is hand screened and the silk itself is the finest Indian silk you could get at that time. Treacy Lowe always started her designs based on her fabric choices and she had an incredible eye for choosing beautiful fabrics. She tended to gravitate towards using the lightest, finest silk tissue gauze that were almost impossible to work with they are so light and airy. The results were dresses like this one that weigh only a few ounces and are incredibly easy to wear and look fantastic. Excellent condition.

The body of the dress is fully lined in silk tissue gauze hand dyed to match the exterior silk chiffon. The sleeves are left unlined. It slips over the head and closes at the neck with an attached tie. Silk covered buttons on each cuff. The caftan cut will allow for a variety of sizes.
