Ferdinando Sarmi was an actual Italian Count and started his design career working for the Elizabeth Arden couture salon during the 1950s. In 1959 he ventured off on his own and launched his label. He designed for just over a decade before closing up shop. During those ten or so years he was known for his evening wear especially. The fabrics he chose were often opulent or very difficult to work with. This dress is very similar to the one photoed for Vogue in 1961, just with a different fabric design.

I love this dress. The volume through the skirt is expansive and the fabric choice is wonderful. Using the silk chiffon for the dress gives it a feeling of lightness and fantasy as it floats around you once on. You can get a sense of just how much movement it has in that wonderful photo for Vogue. The silk has a hint of transparency to it that gives it an interesting visual effect when the floral design falls over itself as the silk moves. The bodice is cut strapless and fitted and the silk there is gathered across the bust. The waist is accented with a large deep green silk bow at the front. From there the skirt gently widens to a beautiful fullness in a cascade of silk. It is very light and airy feeling when on but inside the construction is immaculate with a fully boned corseted foundation to keep it perfectly in place. I love the romantic feel of the floral print that covers the dress and the soft pastels are wonderful. Excellent overall condition with notes to review below

Fully lined in a pale yellow silk through the skirt and the bodice is finished in silk with an inner corset made of a cotton net. It closes with a back, hand set painted metal zipper. Hand finished. Fully boned inner bodice. Made to demi-couture standards. There is a watermark in some areas down the front and there are repairs and grubbiness to the hem in areas. Because of the amount of fabric through the skirt you would never notice these once on. Please review the photos after the label. Marked well below what it would be otherwise regardless

This Emilio Pucci dress is particularly wonderful with its pretty pink & coral floral print that pops off of the black silk jersey base. The dress is made out of one of his classic silk jerseys that has that gorgeous floral pattern screened onto the fabric. At this point in the Pucci history, Emilio himself would have been creating the prints for his dresses so it is truly like wearing art. The dress has an easy to wear cut to it. The bodice skims over the bust and waist, curves over the hips and ends in a simple cut skirt. As with all his best pieces, his use of a contrasting border highlights both the cut and line of the dress. The neckline, cuffs and hem are all accented by a contrasting white and floral border. A border band of that same print also runs down the center back of the dress. The sleeves are cut long with a slight bit of volume over the cuffs. This is a classic Pucci silhouette that is instantly recognizable and very sexy once on an actual body despite not being super form fitting and clingy. I love all the contrasting print panels that give the cut visual definition and the colors all pop against each other beautifully. Excellent condition.

This coat is gorgeous and even better in person. It really needs an actual body under it to sit properly so if you even remotely like it on the dress form you will love it in person. It is made out of a light wool and the weave of the wool is oversized so that it really creates its own texture. For the white parts of the check that you see the wool is set vertically for some parts and horizontally along the bars on others. This creates its own secondary check within the colored checks. Within the pink checks, the wool is set on the diagonal, adding yet another dimension. When you step back it is that gorgeous pink and white pattern that catches your eye and gives the coat a pretty, but graphic feel. It is cut slimmer through the upper body and the the lower part flares out as it reaches the hem. The collar is rounded but cut extra wide and exaggerated. It buttons down one side with big plastic accented buttons. On the other side there are three functional pockets that run down the side of the coat. It is just darling and it is pristine. It looks like it was never worn. Excellent condition

This gorgeous Emilio Pucci dress is made from one of his signature velvet fabrics. These velvet pieces hold color especially well and they have a rich decadent feel to them that is hard to beat with their modern counterparts. The print would have been created by Emilio and then transferred to the velvet. This one uses a rich color palette of fuchsia, pinks, burgundy and browns. The colors all pop against each other beautifully. The dress is kept simple in its cut so that the colors can shine. The bodice skims over the bust with a V neck that scoops down to meet the angled band of contrasting print set at the waist. This tops a simple skirt that curves over the hips and widens out a touch as it nears the hem. Down each sleeve is a panel of one of his signature borders that create contrasting to the print. This same border treatment circles the hem, cuffs and is used to define the waist. This is classic Pucci that is instantly recognizable. Presents as excellent condition with some notes below to review

Fully lined in a white silk and closes with a hidden set, back painted metal zipper that is hidden under a flap of fabric and goes to the waist band only. Has a second hidden set zipper at the side. There is some color run under one arm that is only on the exterior. There is also a slight yellowing on one dot and some fading to the velvet at the back of one sleeve. This dress is insanely sexy. It is made out of one of there signature jerseys that is so light and fine that is feels and moves like liquid on the body. When you are standing still it is deceptive as to just how much fabric there is in the dress. There are yards of it, it is just so light and fine that it falls into a more sleek column until you move. The fabric is covered with a fine black and white dot pattern that gives it a graduated design when seen from a distance. They have cleverly played with the placement of the dots to create a secondary stripe feeling pattern with the pattern. This adds length to the wearer in a subtle, gorgeous way. It is unlined and simply ties at the neck which allows you to decide just how low the front triangles should sit. At the back it is cut very low and again the lower you tie it the lower the back dip will sit. However good it looks on the mannequin it looks and feels even better in real life. Excellent condition with one small note to review below.

Unlined, slips on and ties into place at the back of the neck. One side of the ties at the neck is slightly shorter then the other. There is the tinniest of yellowing to the white dots on both sides. You do not notice it all once on because of the pattern., Please review the last photo after the label shot. The fabric has stretch and should fit a variety of  sizes.

Jacques Tiffeau was one of the vanguard designers whose clothes were designed with a young, more affluent and fashion-conscious costumer in mind. He was a trained tailor who turned down a job at the Dior ateliers and instead launched his own ready-to-wear label, Tiffeau-Busch,  in 1958 in partnership with Beverly Pruzan Busch where pieces were also produced, like this one, that only bore his name. Plaid became a bit of a signature for him and Lauren Hutton wore a similar cut coat to this one in 1967 for Vogue.

This set has two pieces, the coat and its original skirt in a matching fabric. The skirt is tinier through the waist but the coat is cut with a more generous size. This means a girl who fits the coat can buy it to wear on its own and just have the skirt as a bonus piece. Both pieces are made out of a textured fabric that feel like perhaps a wool silk mix. This style was called the Cardigan coat by Vogue dues to its easy cut and collarless design. It sits more sleek and flat at the front and then the back has a yoke under the shoulders and the fabric then is gathered into that and falls with more volume at the back. Big glossy brown buttons close it at the front and the sleeves are finished with a flat piping that matches the treatment at the neck. The skirt is cut slim and to just above the knee. Excellent condition

The coat buttons to close down the front with additional silk covered snaps. The skirt zips to close with a painted metal zipper. Both pieces are lined in an ivory silk. Proper buttonholes. They look to have been worn very little if at all. The skirt is an XS due to the waist but the coat should fit a bit wider range. It is priced based on the coat alone.

This is a more recent dress from a relatively newer label called Zazi Vintage. It was founded by Jeanne de Kroon and their website best described what they do: " ZAZI is a luxury fashion label with a focus on sustainability and women's economic and social independence. Working with both vintage and organic materials, the aim is to give new life to traditional vintage and also create new pieces in partnership with women and artisans worldwide. Our collections pay fair wages, fund girls’ education, and support local artisans."

This is a dress is from the launch they called 'Chapter 2' and is made from a vintage cotton, upcycled, woven Ikat fabricin tones of green and ivory. The fabric is sourced from the Fergana region of Uzbekistan and each piece is handmade by the seamstresses in the workshop Zarif. It slips over the head with a notched neckline that you can button if you prefer a higher neck. The sleeves work wonderfully pushed up so that the poufed part of them is really emphasized. The waist is banded and has attached ties so you can cinch it in once on. The skirt widens as it reaches the floor and there is a high slit at one side. It is very pretty and easy to wear. Excellent condition.

Unlined and slips over the head. Attached ties can adjust the waist in. Note that there are no side or back closures so take that into account that you will need extra room to get it on, hence the size category it is placed under. Hand made and in unworn condition. This style in a comparable fabric currently retails for around 890 euros. It was never worn and in like new condition

Scott Barrie was one of a group of black designers and models based out of New York's Seventh Avenue in the late 1960s. He quickly became known for his sensual designs and in particular, his evening wear. Naomi Sims was a fan and often was spotted wearing his work. His label closed in the early 1980s. He then worked at Krizia, remaining there up to just before his passing in 1993 of brain cancer. This gives us a very small window for finding examples of his work. The earlier pieces especially were produced in very limited amounts. The very early pieces were made by him out of his apartment on a makeshift cutting table and domestic sewing machine. To me this makes each of his found pieces that much more special.

This dress is stunning and shows his range with fabric and the more romantic side of his work. He is best known for his work in stretch jerseys but I  love this silk chiffon example. This dress has the added bonus of having a all black version of it photoed for Vogue in 1973 so we know the exact date it is from. It is very sexy in a very pretty and romantic kind of way. It is made from a bias cut silk chiffon that is printed with huge pink and coral tropical flowers on a vivid green backdrop. The lightness of the fabric choice makes it feel like the silk floats around you when you move. The bodice is fitted at the front and each sleeve is a pretty flutter of silk. The back is left completely open and bare with a small ruffle of silk edging the opening. It is just absolutely stunning. Excellent condition with a note to review below

Fully lined in a green tissue silk and closes with a low back zipper and ties behind the neck. There are some small marks on the skirt here and there - they do not detract because of the pattern but are present if you inspect it closely and flat with the fabric spread out. I photoed the ones I found and it is priced with this taken into account. The fabric is otherwise strong and stable. The zipper did not do up all the way on the dress form but does close properly on someone the correct waist size.

The cut of this dress is a version of what would go on to become one of Ossie's most famous and recognizable designs. It is from the late 1960s to early 1970s time period and is is a fabulous representation of his work. What sets this one apart from the dresses you often see from him is the amazing semi-transparent green and silver metallic knit lurex fabric. It is ultra light and drapes beautifully. The silver threads that run through it give is a touch of glitter in the light and it just amplifies everything about his signature design.  His pieces always have a touch of sexuality worked into them and here that is conveyed with the combination of the slightly see-through knit and that low front plunge. The neckline is cut right down to the seam at the empire waist. At the base of that there is a bit of gathered elastic to give you some the shape and it keeps the plunge from moving. The skirt flows to the floor from under there. At the back there is a seam at the waist that allows the dress to follow your curves. It cascades to the ground and is balanced by huge sleeves that puff up above each wrist. I own one of these myself and it will always be in my collection so I can tell you from personal experience that it is a dress that you will wear over and over and easily goes from day to night. Excellent condition with a tiny note below

I love Adele Simpson's work. She favored quality and longevity over trends and her pieces were well made ready-to-wear at prices that were attainable for the modern woman. She launched her label in 1949 and remained at its helm until the early 1980s. 

This dress dates to the tale end of Adele's career, from the late 1970's to the early 1980s, and shows her more glamorous side. The fabric is a deep pink lurex lame that has gold metallic thread running through it. The gold is woven through the fabric to create a pattern of dots that cover the entire dress. She then took that fabric and made it pop even more with the addition of a densely beaded detailing at the waist and cuffs. Here we see thick panels of rhinestones, stones, gold braiding and faux pearls sewn into place to create a touch of high glamour. The dress has an equally string cut. The shoulders are padded and the front crossed over itself into a deep plunge. Each sleeve is cut with volume above its cuff. The skirt cascades to the floor with gathers all through the upper portion and a high slit runs up the center at the front. The metallic fabric is lightweight and this allows it to drape and move wonderfully. Excellent condition.

Unlined throughout with partial lining to key areas. It closes with a back painted metal and nylon zipper. Each cuff closes with hook & eye. Padding in each shoulder. The color is a bit more vibrant pink in person.

This dress dates to the early 1980s during the last few years of when Halston was still in control of his brand. At this point in the Halston history, anyone who was anybody was wearing the Halston label.

When you see this dress on the hanger you are not as wowed with it as when you see it on. It really needs to be on an actual body to really come to life.Once on the cut and lines create a beautiful fluid movement. The dress is strapless with an inner construction though the bodice. The interior is boned to keep the dress perfectly in place and give you support. Over this, the outer layer of velvet skims over the body in a long sheath. It falls to the floor and the skirt gradually widens out for a touch of volume. The velvet catches the light and adds texture and interest. It also helps to highlight the curves of the body under it without the dress having to be skin tight. The bodice is cut fairly straight across the front bodice and then slightly dips and curves down at the back. The fabric is set so that it is softly gathered along the seam on the one side. This allows the velvet to catch the light differently here and subtly accents the waist. It is beautifully constructed. Excellent condition

This is a beautiful example of Halston's work during this time period. He was a master at combining function and ease but without sacrificing glamour. He did this with the absolute minimum of seaming that a garment required. His bias cut pieces like this one, sometimes feel somewhat shapeless on the hanger or dress form and it is only when they are slipped on that they drape and settle into place the way they were intended. They seem so very simple but they are not. A similar dress to this example was photoed for Vogue in 1974

The dress is entirely cut on the bias with that minimal seaming signature that I spoke of above. The color is a beautiful clear red that is flattering on most skin tones. It is feather light and it weighs ounces once it is on. The cut through the body is extremely loose and easy. There is an elastic at the waist but it is there as almost an afterthought as it does not cinch in the waist at all. It is more there to give the piece the slightest of shape and add to the soft gathers. The neckline is deep and can be worn with an even lower plunge if you leave the hidden snaps open. There are attached ties above the slit front of the neck and the collar is a double layer of flounced silk ruffles. Each sleeve is soft and full and these end with a ruffle finish. The skirt is full and open. The matching silk sash can be worn wrapped around the waist to add shape. You could also wear it wrapped turban style or at the neck. If the sash is not worn the dress has a more full, caftan feel and will land between mid-calf and ankle length depending on your height. If cinched at the waist, the length pulls up more to land between knee and calf. Excellent overall condition with a note to review below

The body and skirt of the dress are constructed from two layers of bias cut silk chiffon. The sleeves and shoulders are unlined. It is entirely bias cut and just slips over the head to wear. Ties at the neck and a very wide elastic at the waist. Each cuff is finished with elastic above the ruffled ends. The sash is original. Hand finished. Note that there are some marks on the front skirt toward the side closer to the hem. The volume and cut effectively hide these once on but they are there. I photoed it for your reference and it is shown in the photo after the label shot. Some pinholes on the sash. The easy cut will allow it to fit a full range of sizes

George Stavropoulos was known for his evening wear and his signature looks focused on cut and fabric to convey the beauty of each piece. He launched his label in 1960 and soon was dressing women like Elizabeth Taylor, Jackie Kennedy, Barbra Streisand and Maria Callas. His dresses were made by hand and to couture standards. By the early 1980s a gown by him started at around $8500 and they went up in cost from there - that starting price point equals to around $26,000US in today's dollars. So when you buy a vintage Stavropoulos gown you are getting incredible value for your money.

This dress has a wonderful and unusual sleeve treatment. With all the emphasis on sleeves showing on the runways lately it looks and feels especially fresh. It is in mint condition and appears to have never been worn. The fabric is a satin backed red silk that feels amazing when on the body. It has just enough weight to it to hold the shape. It has an amazing amount of fabric used to make it. That skirt has far more fabric then you think at first glance. The neckline is cut straight across and the shoulders curve up and around from there. Each sleeve is gathered and shaped on a curve so that they have their own volume. This is achieved completely by his seaming. At the back the sleeves extend down and arch towards the center for a very pretty line. The dress skims over the bust and waist and then falls to the floor in a widening swoop of fabric A long inverted pleat at the back gives it some volume for a touch of drama to finish. Very easy to wear and flattering on. Excellent condition

The fabric is self backed in a satin and it closes with a back hand set, zipper at the back. There is elastic set through the top seam of the bust so it adjusts to fit. Silk ribbon edge finish under the hem. Very well finished with the majority of the finishes done by hand. In person the red is a touch brighter and even better then how it photoed

This incredible ball gown skirt from Oscar de la Renta has never been worn. In fact, it still has its original tags on it and feels like it just stepped out of a time capsule. The condition is pristine. The skirt is made of a deep fuchsia silk brocade that is a touch deeper in tone than how it photoed. The color is even better in person and has a richer feel to it. It somehow seems to land somewhere between a purple and a deep pink though slightly more towards the purple tone. The skirt is incredibly versatile as an evening piece - you could potentially pair it with anything from a simple white tee to an extravagant couture piece. it is cut supermodel length and has a built in silk taffeta underskirt that gives it that amazing fullness that you see. The waist nips in and the skirts flounce around the wearer in the most dramatic way. The construction is immaculate and while the skirt does have some weight to it due to all of that fabric once on, it feels shockingly easy to wear. Unworn and has all original tags attached. Excellent condition

Fully lined with a layer of silk taffeta, dyed a shade deeper then the exterior, that helps it to retain its fullness. Stiffening through the hem to also help keep the shape. It closes at the waist with a flat hook & eye and snaps under that. Pockets on each hip. Dollyrockers was one of the British labels that were active in London during the sixties and into the seventies and are know as being a part of the British Boutique Movement. The label was launched around 1963 and stayed in business until about 1975. Their peasant dresses and pieces that had a bit of a caftan feel were the most popular. They were known for re-cutting and re-sewing found vintage dresses and for using vintage fabrics for their designs. 

This fabulous red cotton dress has a bright and happy floral print in a vivid yellow and green. The print is done to mimic embroidery and it is not until you are close to the fabric that you realize it is not actually embroidered. It is just adorable and one of those dresses that will make you feel happy when you wear it. The front neckline is squared off and it is seamed just under the bust. The sleeves are cuffed and a touch fuller above the cuffs. It is gathers in through the high waist and from there the skirt falls in a gradually widening line. I love how the hem of the skirt has a stronger print border that matches the cuffs and the detailing on the bodice. It is made of a soft cotton and is fabulous. Excellent condition with a small note below

Partially lined through the upper shoulders and the rest is unlined. It closes with a back metal zipper. Hidden pockets along each hip. 100% cotton. Tagged a Med. The red in person is slightly softer then how it photoed. There are a couple of variations in the color on the bodice but in person the effect is less then how it photoed. This is a wonderful and easy to wear caftan dress by the Young Innocents by Arpeja label. Arpeja was based out of California. They had several lines that were very on trend and targeted towards a more youthful audience. The Young Innocents label launched in 1964 and lasted into the early 1970s. They were an early proponent of sourcing fabric that were from organically grown sources.

This caftan dress is bright and colorful and so very pretty. It has an almost smock feel to its construction The sleeves are exceptionally wide and the effect once on a real person is wonderful. The neckline is squared off and trimmed with a rick rack ribbon finish. The waist has attached ties to cinch it in and the skirt falls to the floor, gently widening as it nears the hem. It is a made out of cotton so very easy to care for. I love the combination of the red, green and blue and the tiny floral print that covers all three colors in the dress is magical. Excellent condition with a note to review below

Closes with a back zipper and the attached ties will allow you to cinch in the waist as much as you wish. Easy to care for and can be machine or hand washed. There is an area in the print of the lower hem where the blue has faded a touch. It is very minimal and adds to the vintage charm of the dress. Please review the photo after the label shot. The loose and easy cut should work on a variety of sizes

Emilio Pucci is one of my favorite designers and every single dress is a work of art in its own right. His colors and prints are mixed with a masterful hand and when you get a good piece of Pucci, it is a piece that you can wear for a lifetime. This one is quintessentially Pucci and is done in one of his beautiful blue color palettes. The dress is made out of his signature lightweight silk jersey, a fabric that he preferred because of the way it moved and took color. It is screened with one of his custom prints that depicts a lattice pattern that runs over the entire dress and then has leaves and vines twining around and through that lattice. The pattern runs over the long sleeves and over the bodice that skims over the bust with a scooped neckline. The neckline and cuffs are defined with a border piece of the same pattern that only has the leaves and vines. There is a detailing seam that runs just under the bust and then the waist and skirt flows from there to the floor. I love the wide band of print that runs up the back of the dress and circles the hem as well. The skirt itself is surprisingly full through the lower portion. When you are standing it falls in perfectly little rounded drapes but when you move you really get a sense of the fullness. The entire dress weighs ounces and is just wonderful to see. Excellent condition.

Unlined and closes with a back hidden, painted metal zipper. The fabric is a silk jersey and does have some stretch. Note that the color is more intense in person - better then how it photoed. Hand finished. Tagged a vintage Pucci 8

This is a more recent dress from a relatively newer label called Zazi Vintage. It was founded by Jeanne de Kroon and their website best described what they do: " ZAZI is a luxury fashion label with a focus on sustainability and women's economic and social independence. Working with both vintage and organic materials, the aim is to give new life to traditional vintage and also create new pieces in partnership with women and artisans worldwide. Our collections pay fair wages, fund girls’ education, and support local artisans."

This is a dress is from the launch they called "Chapter 2' and is made from a vintage pure silk and upcycled woven Ikat in tones of blue and a gold toned yellow. The fabric is sourced from the Fergana region of Uzbekistan and each piece is handmade by the seamstresses in the workshop Zarif. It slips over the head with a notched neckline that you can button if you prefer a higher neck. The sleeves work wonderfully pushed up so that the poufed part of them is really emphasized. The waist is banded and has attached ties so you can cinch it in once on. The skirt widens as it reaches the floor and there is a high slit at one side. It is very pretty and easy to wear. Excellent condition.

Unlined and slips over the head. Attached ties can adjust the waist in. Note that there are no side or back closures so take that into account that you will need extra room to get it on, hence the size category it is placed under. Hand made and in unworn condition. This style in a comparable silk currently retails for 890 euros.

This is an incredible fur and the workmanship is of the best possible quality. The designs is typical of the furs being produced during this time period and this one has the extra surprise of being convertible in length. The furs being produced under the Balmain name during this time period were of the best quality and that quality still shows even 50 some odd years later. I am no expert on furs but believe this it is a coyote. The pelts are soft and supple and have a bit of a pale almost blush undertone to them in certain lights. The coat does double duty as it can be worn at two different lengths. It does this by having the bottom portion of the coat attach by a zipper and snaps that are cleverly set along a hidden seam. When they are zipped together there is no break at all in the design. When the bottom panel is in place the coat falls to just about the knee. Once this panel is removed the coat falls to just past the hip. It is done in rows of fur that are interspersed with rows of light taupe leather. The collar is big and oversized and it has a leather tie belt that you can wrap around the whole coat to cinch in the waist or run through the belt openings to leave the back full and just bring in the front as I have shows. Excellent condition with one small note below

Fully lined in an golden taupe silky rayon. There are no front closures, rather it wraps and ties with the belt. The belt came with the coat but is a shade off from the leather in between the rows. Not sure of that is from natural aging or if it is a belt from another coat but you don't notice this when wearing since the fur covers the leather row anyway. Hidden pickets along the top of the row at the hip. The bottom portion zips off. There are a couple of tiny marks to the lining. The wrap style should allow it to fit a variety of sizes. I see no bald spots or shedding, the pelts are supple and soft. For a vintage fur from such an important designer, I still rate this as near excellent. The fur has no odd odor, is still supple and is stable with no signs of excessive shedding that would indicate that it is breaking down.

I have a small collection of historically important, key designer labelled vintage furs and fur trimmed pieces stored away in my archives that I will be slowly posting on the site over the next couple of years until I have none left. I will no longer be buying furs for the shop moving forward and have not purchased anything for several years now. I feel like times have changed and while there still is a place for vintage furs for some, including collectors and historians, many modern girls are choosing other options. Many of the pieces in my collection are representative of the designer during a set time period in history that was different then our modern outlook. I have decided that the best course to handle this controversial issue is to let the pieces I have go rather then sit in a cold storage unit. Fur coats are final sale.

I have held this in my archives for several years now and I think that it is a stunning example of the fur pieces being produced by designers like Pierre Cardin during this time period. This was the beginning of the movement of treating fur more like a fabric and making coats that had far more style to them then the previous norm. I am no expert on furs but believe this it is Fitch. The color is a rich deep brown that has an undertone ranging from a soft taupe to a creamy ivory. The fur is supple, shiny and very soft. The fur is set in horizontal rows with bands of a black suede in between. It is cut in a classic sixties cut that flares out as it reaches the bottom hem. The sleeves are incredible and each widens out to a flare finish at the cuff. It does up with hooks at the front and the collar is deep and rounded. Pockets sit along the edge of one of the rows at each hip. It has been properly stored and cared for and appears to have been worn very little if at all. No splitting, issues or shedding. Excellent condition with a minor note below to review.

Fully lined in a deep brown silky rayon and closes with the fur hooks down the front. Pockets on each hip. I see no bald spots or shedding, the pelts are supple and soft. There is slight wear at some of the common points - near the hooks and the edges of the sleeves, but it is very minor. The fur has no odd odor, is still supple and is stable with no signs of any shedding that would indicate that it is breaking down.

This beautiful two piece set shows what a master Yves was with print. The top and skirt share the same floral print and instead of that being overwhelming it only serves to give the illusion that it is a dress instead of the two pieces. Yves was a master at taking fine silks and simple designs and then adding romantic, feminine elements to create something uniquely Laurent in feel. Both pieces are made from a high quality silk. This allows them to move and drape wonderfully once on the body. You will see a lot of his pieces made from this silk during this time period and for good reason. The top has an easy to wear cut and sits loose on the body. It buttons at the front neck so that you can leave it open or close completely to create a higher neckline. There is an attached tie belt at the waist that allows you to add shape. Each sleeve has a pretty amount of volume over the 3" cuff. The skirt hooks and zips to close. It is cut to flows over the hips and ends just past the knee. It is more fitted around the hips and then the pleats opens to create some volume. Excellent condition

Both pieces are unlined. The top buttons partially down the front and has three buttons on each cuff. The skirt zips and hooks to close. Has its original tie belt attached lightly to the top. Both pieces are tagged a 36

This is one of my favorite John Kloss pieces I have ever had on the shop. I have actually worn this one a few times over the years and have never not gotten a zillion compliments. The vast majority of John Kloss pieces that one finds are usually too thin or too sheer to wear as proper dress, but every once in a while you find a fabulous little exceptions like this one. John Kloss was a contemporary of Ossie Clark and I love how you can see that same British sense of sexiness in his pieces. This dress has a simple but sexy cut that really shows off the body once on. The bodice has an almost scandalous plunging front that goes right to the waist and is cut wide across the chest. Little cap sleeves sit just on top of your shoulders and the edges are all hand rolled. At the point where the waist and the bodice join are two long panels of fabric that hang down the front. I just let them hang but you could wrap and tie them too. Either way they add a beautiful detail. At the back it is cut with a wide scooped back and then falls into a sleek sheath under that. Kloss was genius at choosing extremely high quality, light weight jerseys ad nylons that held the color well and would drape exactly as he wished. Excellent condition with one small note below.

Unlined and slips on to wear. Tagged a vintage Kloss for Circa medium but please check measurements. The fabric does have some stretch so it should fit a range of sizes. There is one small pull in the jersey under one arm towards the front. This one is completely wearable as a dress.

The Andre Laug label launched in 1968 in Rome. Laug was one of the grand Italian Couturiers who would now be considered to have designed "Alta Moda" the Italian equivalent of Haute Couture. He apprenticed under Nina Ricci and was the designer behind the first "Mademoiselle Ricci" collection in the summer of 1961. From there he freelanced, working for both Philip Venet and Andre Courreges. His clients included Audrey Hepburn, Jacqueline Kennedy, Diana Ross and countless others.This dress is numbered with one of his couture tags and dates from the late 1970s to the early 1980s.

Here we really see the attention to cut and details that his atelier was known for. Woman loved his clothes for their rich fabrics and attention to tailoring, but always with a refined and reserved beauty. This dress is a stunning example of that aesthetic while still taking into account the impact of using neon brights and sports related looks that was heavily influencing fashion during this time period. The entire dress is hand covered in a sequins. The sleeveless bodice uses clear sequins that allow the soft dove grey of the silk used for the bodice to show through. On the skirt the sequins are finished in an almost neon orange backed by a matching orange silk bodice. The waist is set low and dropped. This is then further detailed by a heavy embellishment of beads and more sequins, this time set on their sides so they have a more 3D feel to them. The neckline is scooped at the front with a wide silk border finished in a slightly different shade of grey. The waist has just a suggestion of shape and the skirt falls to the floor from there. The color in the skirt especially is exceptional - it is far brighter and crisper then how it photoed and really phenomenal in person. Excellent condition.

Fully lined with a hand set fine white silk chiffon. It closes with a back painted metal zipper.  Hand finished interior seams throughout to couture standards. Beautifully constructed. Couture numbered tag present.

I have had a version of this dress in the shop just recently and I was very pleased to find another so soon. I absolutely love the dramatic mix of color with the metallic thread. The combination of that bold red mixed with the floral pattern that covers and the shots of gold thread make it quite a stunning piece. It is constructed from a beautiful crepe silk chiffon that gives it a very light feel once on the body.  The red silk bodice skims the torso with a high neckline. The sleeves are left unlined with a red silk at the top and then a billowing pouf of the black silk that is caught up at the wrist with an elastic. The skirt flows from the waist to the floor and the top layer of chiffon floats over the inner layer tissue silk lining - giving it a wonderful light and romantic feel. The skirt is the same black silk as the bottom of the sleeves and I love the contrast this creates. The entire dress is covered with a floral print and the fabric has a gold metallic thread worked through it from top to bottom. Excellent condition condition with a small note below to review

This dramatic and full sleeve dress by Mary McFadden has a definitive Elizabethan feel to it. The Juliet sleeves are full and exaggerated to the extreme and give the dress its main focal point. A wide metallic gold panel runs down the upper part of each arm and acts as a touch of support to the fullness that runs from the shoulder to the elbow. There is inner built in structure inside each sleeve to help hold the shape. Beneath that, the sleeves conform to your arm for contrast. The entire dress is made from her signature pleating which allows it to highlight the body under the fabric, yet still skim over your curves. The neckline is cut wide and the bodice is slightly shaped to follow the curve of the body. It has a low dropped waist that is highlighted with the same wide band of metallic braiding. I love how this curves downwards. The skirt under that is done with a touch of a different pleating pattern for contrast. These are easy to wear and care for and it is a definite statement piece. Excellent condition

Unlined through the body. The upper sleeves are lined in an organza that is inset to help retain the shape and volume you see. The dress closes with a side painted metal and nylon zipper. Tagged a vintage 10. The fabric has tons of stretch so it should fit a variety of sizes

This is a dress that was from the ODLR wedding line and is a pretty confection of pale pink taffeta and chiffon. The skirt is lovely, full length and has lots of fullness to it. This gives it a touch of volume. A pretty pleating detail circles the lower portion of the skirt. Above that is a paler shade of pink chiffon bodice that has a touch of a transparency to it. The neckline is cut straight across and wide. It fits loosely over the bodice. Each sleeve is cut to the elbow with a ruffle finish and has tremendous volume. They pouf out for full on drama and there is even tulle built in  to each sleeve to make sure the shape is kept. Two rows of that same pleating detail as on the skirt run down either side of the front. It has a swath of pink lace set across the shoulders and another touch of the same lace down the front. A wide, long taffeta sash that matches the skirt cinches in the waist. In person it has an even more poufy and has more a feeling of fullness then how it photoed. Excellent condition

The skirt has a inner skirt lining in a matching pink silky rayon and the top is lined with a second layer of the chiffon. Each sleeve has built in tulle to add volume. It closes with a back painted metal zipper. Has its matching sash. It appears to have been worn very little, if at all.

This stunning dress was designed by Bob Mackie. Mackie was best known for dressing Cher and for his undying love of opulence and bead work, both of which he incorporates heavily into the best of his designs. He worked for both Edith Head and Jean Louis prior to working as a costume designer and co-designing with Ray Aghayan. That led to his incredible journey in designing for stars like Cher and Diana Ross for many years. In some ways he and his creations defined their careers and that era of glamour. I think he secretly always designed for the big screen and the bygone glamor of Hollywood as his work is always over the top and extravagant.

Every square inch of this gorgeous little dress has a touch of a metallic to it. The  of the dress them selves are fairly simple and that really allows the metallic detailing to shine. Onto the pale green silk base of the dress is a gold metallic overlay that covers the dress. Then onto that are hundreds of little gold dangling rows of gold thread and gold sequins. These cover the entire dress so that with the smallest movement they move and flash all around you. The bodice is cut to skim over the chest with a scooped neckline. Over the interior bodice is a more caped piece that floats above the more fitted interior. The sleeves are capped and the waist nips in. The waist is banded and the color under the lave overlay an more nude color. Under that the skirt flares out slightly as it nears the shorter hem. The effect of all this is far more dramatic and fabulous on a real body and it really shows off the legs. If you even remotely love it in the photos you will dance when you see it in person as it is so, so, so much better in real life. Very well made to demi-couture standards. Excellent condition.

Fully lined in a pale green silk. It closes with a hand set back zipper. Hand finished throughout. Lightly padded shoulders. It is surprisingly light in weight so easy top wear. It is more a matter gold in person. Main line label that id hand dated

This dress is such a statement piece. It is by designer Edward Parnes who for a short time period designed with his brother Paul before their label was bought out by Mollie Parnis. Edward then had his own label for a couple of years before fading into obscurity. The dress is a fun piece with its bold stripes and dense coverage of sequins. It is completely covered form neck to hem with deep silver and copper colored sequins that are tightly spaced and cover every inch of the dress. The neckline is high and the sleeves are cut long and straight. The dress skims over the body with no defined waist. This makes it very easy to wear. The fabric the sequins are on also has a touch of stretch so it is even more comfortable when on. The skirt falls to the floor and there is even a couple more inches of sequins turned up if you needed more length. A great dress with tons of impact. Excellent condition with a note to review below

I am always on the look out for this style of dress by Halston. It is perhaps the most iconic of all of the Halston silhouettes and in 2016 a red jersey version of this  dress entered modern day fashion history when Kate Moss wore its twin on the red carpet at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. And just this year, Martha Hunt wore a white one that she sourced from us to Cannes. She landed on several Best Dressed lists as a result. These were issued on a variety of colors and this one is one of the more rare metallic gold lame ones.

Halston was a master at this cut. There is a certain sexiness caused by the illusion of having the entire dress suspended from single shoulder. It gives the sense that the entire dress could drop in a puddle around you by slipping that off your shoulder (which it would). It is constructed from two attached layers.  The inner dress is cut from the same nylon jersey and skims over the body in a long sheath. This inner part of the dress has a high slit cut into the side that travels up the side of the leg opposite to the draped side. Attached to that inner sheath lies a draped panel of jersey that is suspended from the shoulder. It falls from that shoulder down and over the front and the back of the dress. The jersey cascades loosely down from the shoulder and over the inner layer for the ultimate Grecian goddess feel. This is a classic dress by Halston that is perfect for traveling as it is wash and wear and will travel exceedingly well. It is very easy to style too - a quick change of shoe takes it day to night in a snap. Excellent overall condition with a note below

Slips on to wear and has a hook at the top of the shoulder. These should fit a variety of sizes since they are not cut to be super fitted and the fabric does have some stretch. Note that this one is more for a petite frame so is cut a little shorter then some of the ones I have had in the past. The bonus from that is that its priced a little lower then the longer ones are. Note that there are some very teeny repairs near the bottom and some slight wear near the hook at the top of the shoulder. Please review the photos after the label shot.

This dress is stunning. It is a full length dress from her ready to wear line launched in 1970. Mollie hired designer Morty Sussman to do the initial designs and then approved everything he did before it went into production. The dress is made from a lightweight silver lame knit jersey that has a pewter undertone to with the black that is mixed in with the silver. Onto this are thousands of tiny silver sequins that have been sewn into place so the entire dress gleams in the light. These are placed flat on the fabric and cover the entire dress head to toe. The neckline is notched and the sleeves are cut long and straight. The waist gas a looser feel and it comes with a belt accented with a bow that you can use to cinch it in more if you choose to. The skirt falls to the floor under that, softly widening out as it near the hem. Excellent condition.

Unlined and closes with a back painted metal zipper. The belt hooks to close and it would be easy to adjust the hooks if needed. Note that in person it is a touch more a true silver feel then the deeper grey it photoed as. The label shot is the closest to the actual color in real life. The fabric has a touch of stretch

Rudi Gernreich was known for having some of the most innovative and dynamic fashion of the 1960s. His clothes made a social statement for ideas like sexual freedom, by making pieces that highlighted the female body in an unrestricted way. The Harmon knitwear line was sold at his Seventh Avenue showroom alongside his own label as of 1964.

This is a wonderful and rare example of his work during this time period and it is also just a really terrific dress. It is down in a solid black which is perhaps more subdued then what you normally think of for his work, but also makes it incredibly easy to wear. The dress is made of a lightweight wool knit jersey. This has just enough weigh to it to keep the shape and volume through the skirt that he wished it to have. The bodice is more fitted with rounded shoulders and skinny cap sleeves. It waist line comes to right under the bust and the front neckline plunged right to that seam. Below the seam under the bust the skirt flows from the waist to just above the floor. This gives it some volume and shape that perfectly balances the low plunge of the front. Very collectible and yet still very  wearable. Excellent condition.

Christian LaCroix launched his Haute Couture house in 1987 and was instantly adored and revered. A ready-to-wear line soon followed along with perfumes and menswear. His collections are always an exotic, lavish affair and his inspirations spanned the decades with their eccentric, exotic glamour. His atelier closed in 2009. This dress is from the late 1990s/early 2000s. I love it in all it's signature Lacroix drama.

The beautiful bias cut on this dress instantly reminds one of the glory days of Old Hollywood and high glamour. The dress has been done in two layers. There is an inner silk satin slip in a pale ivory and then the outer silk crepe chiffon  layer glides over that. Both pieces have been cut on the boas so made to conform and mold to the body under them. The fine, curved seaming done on the dress is a nod to the type of costumes being worn by starlets of the 1930s and designers working with bias cut fabrics like Madame Gres and Madeleine Vionnet. It really has that same feel once on but the embroidery and applique work on the front middle of the dress give it a modern touch. The bias cut and curved set seams allow the dress to both hug the body and still move with you so it is extremely light and comfortable when on. The bodice is hand draped across the bust with small capped sleeves. The sleeves are split and draped so you will get a little loop on the arm when it is worn. One one side a panel of fabric that drapes down for the prettiest touch. The back is also draped and curved sown in a soft scoop. It is cut to curve around your body, skimming over the waist and flowing softly into the long skirt. The construction of the skirt is remarkable. The back of the skirt cascades down and extends into an show stopping train of silk. It is absolutely beautiful and a dream to wear. Excellent condition

The inner, separate slip acts as the lining under the outer silk crepe chiffon layer. The slip has no closures and slip on. It is so well made you could probably wear it on its own as a separate dress altogether. The outer dress closes with a back, hidden set zipper. Tagged a size 36. The bias cut should allow it to fit a range of sizes. The length will come up a touch once on an actual body due to the bias cut. You might be able to wear a larger slip under it and go more by the outer dress measurements if needed.

This is the ready to wear version of what walked the runway for the Fall 1992 Haute Couture show. The runway version was leather and fur but here he has decide to go full on faux. The sleeves are magnificent and have all the fullness and impact of the couture version. They are incredibly full and made of a black faux fur that is glossy and thick. The body of the coat is a textured chenille velvet that does an incredible job of mimicking astrakhan. This is achieved by the swirling fabric and palette of greys and blacks. The neck line is high and the body of the jacket is cut in a straight line. It closes down the front with buffed wooden buttons. The sleeves are the star if the show and each is a full 24" around at their widest points. The come on at the wrist and I love the contrast between the two colors and the statement the strong black sleeves make. Such impact. Excellent condition.

The Diorling label was introduced at the Christian Dior London boutique on Conduit Street in 1968. It was meant as a ready to wear label and to appeal to his younger clientelle primarily in London. The name came from the perfume of the same moniker that launched in 1963. The line was created and designed by Jorn Langberg, Artistic Director of Christian Dior London. Pieces under this label stopped being produced in 1973. The number on the label most likely denoted a custom order. The twin of this coat was photoed for the Feb 1970 issue of Vogue. It is an important part of Dior's history and pieces are held in museums around the world.

This coat is wonderful. It is made of a woven fabric that almost has the feel of a linen type fabric. This creates the wonderful black and white check design that covers the entire coat. In person this fabric choice gives the coat a richer feel and you get more of a sense of the texture it creates. The coat is cut neat and slim with a notched collar and lean sleeve. It closes down the front with ta row of large round matte black buttons. The waist comes in slightly for definition at the front while at the back the bottom panels are more flared fora  touch of volume. I love how the fabric at the back is set in the opposite direction to highlight this slight change in design. The overall effect is simple and neat with the attention given to the cut and line, allowing that amazing fabric to take center stage. Excellent condition with a small note to review below

Bob Mackie was best known for dressing Cher. He had a love of opulence and bead work, both of which he incorporates heavily into the best of his designs. He worked for both Edith Head and Jean Louis prior to working as a costume designer and co-designing with Ray Aghayan. That led to his incredible journey in designing for stars like Cher and Diana Ross for many years. In many ways his creations defined their careers and that entire era of Hollywood glamour. I think he secretly always designed for the big screen and the bygone glamor of Hollywood as his work is always over the top and extravagant. This dress is from his main label and quite amazing. 

Every square inch of this gorgeous little dress is heavily sequinned and beaded. The lines are simple and once on it is extremely sexy and flattering. Onto the black silk base of the dress are hundreds of bands that are made out of a combination of glossy black sequins and tube beads. These are laid out in a sharply angled chevron pattern that comes together down the centre giving the illusion of an even slimmer silhouette. On the skirt the flare pout to match the incredible sweep of the lower skirt. The exterior of the dress is done in a solid black with just the pattern of the sequins and beads to catch the eye. The beadwork is so extensive and it is all glass beads so the dress is fairly heavy off the body. Yet once on the body it lies and drapes in a way that it is balanced and feels comfortable. The bodice is cut to skim over the chest with a scooped neckline. The sleeves are capped and the waist nips in. Under that the skirt flares out in a massive volume. If you lay it out flat you see that it is a true circle skirt. Underneath is a built in crinoline that is a combination of a vivid pink and red. These are set in extravagant, pleated ruffles. If you stand perfectly still you can't see the color underneath but the second you move or sit that vibrant color explodes outwards. The under-skirts also helps to hold the shape and volume that the lower skirt is meant to have. The effect of this is far more dramatic and fabulous on a real body and it really shows off the legs. If you even remotely love it in the photos you will die when you see it in person as it is even better in real life. Very well made. It appears to have ben worn very little if at all. Excellent condition.

The Swash Buckler top is from the Fall 2017 Rosie Assoulin collection. On the runway this same print was shown on the finale gown. These tops were a hallmark of the collection and their high drama is an easy way for a modern girl to step out in the evening and be able to pair it with pants or a skirt and still get a high glamour feel. The top is an amazing feat of proportion and cutting. The front has a v-neckline with loose ties at the neck. This tops a curved yoke and then the body of the top flares out under that. The fit through the body is relaxed and the sleeves are cut into fantastical bubble sleeves. They are set low on the sides and then pouf out and are cut on a curve so that they follow the arm and maintain the same pouf from the shoulder to the cuff. The cuffs are cut extra long and slit so that you can wear then unfolded and over the hand or flip them up. The back has a ton of volume and the choice of the fabric keeps it light and airy in feel. I love it. Excellent condition

It is constructed from a double layer of the organza. It slips on to wear with ties at the neck. Each cuff has two silk covered buttons and loops to close. Tagged a modern brand size S but the cut is very generous so it should fit a variety of sizes.

I have had a version of this dress before that was a bit more elaborate then this one but I actually this simplified one with its sleek lines that allow the print it really stand out. This is a fabulous 1970s Mollie Parnis dress and I think that it is very hard not to love such a strong statement piece. That bold print gives it such drama and yet, it still has a soft and sexy element to it. The chiffon that it is constructed from has been custom screened with a fantastic bold plaid design. The pattern is a combination of deep corals and reds with pops of different colored stripes running through including a bright green and a royal blue. The  bodice has a plunge front and this same deep V is done at the back as well. Under this the waist is defined by a wide band of gathered fabric. From there the skirt flows to the ground from pleats that circle all the way around the waist. The then softly open so that the skirt has a touch of volume. This also gives the skirt lots of movement when you move. The contrast between the colors and the refined cut is fabulous. Excellent condition.

Jean Paul Gaultier used the butterfly print in his Spring 2014 Couture presentation and also did a couple of versions of the print into production for his Soleil collection that year. This is the long version sold in the shops that year and it is a simple and easy to wear dress that has lots of impact with that amazing print. The dress is made out of a easy to care for and wear stretch jersey. It simply slips on and then molds to your body from head to toe with the fabric conforming to your curves. It is super comfortable to wear and is wash and wear so a piece you can just throw in your suitcase and wear when you arrive anywhere. Long sleeves and a V neck finish the look. I love the explosion of print that covers ever square inch and the way the pattern is laid out to be very flattering to the bod once it is on. It's a great dress. Excellent condition

This would have been designed by Belgian-born Jules-Francois Crahay, who headed the Lanvin ateliers from 1964-1984. He has been "noted as one of fashion’s great colorists with his colorful patterns making his 1970s Lanvin designs hugel​y ​desirable and influential." His realm is one of my favorites for the house and the period through the late sixties and into the 70s in particular. He was a genius at print and color and he pushed the envelope in terms of using the "new" fabrics available during this time period.

This vintage Lanvin dress has a gorgeous bright color and print combination on a black base. The wool jersey fabric it is made of is light in weight and held color exceptionally well. The colors are still crisp, bright and true. I love when I find great examples of this label from this time period in the label's history as it is a particular favorite for me. The dress is sleeveless with a V scooped neckline on both the front and back. The back dips lower then the front does. It buttons down the back and I think its amazing that each button is perfectly done so that it has one of the spots exactly laid out over it, so that the pattern at the back is not interrupted. The waist nips in and the skirt falls to just above the ankle depending on how tall you are, and it slightly widens as it nears the hem. I love how those stripes contrast against the dot print and are used to define the cut of the dress. It also has a matching scarf that is hand finished with a yarn trim. Overall great condition with notes below to review

Fully lined and closes with hand covered buttons down the back to the waist and a low back painted metal zipper below that. Has its original scarf. Note that there are some minor nicks out of the fabric around the lower portion of the skirt. I have photoed the two worst areas - please review the two shots after the label photo. There are a scattering of teeny ones here and there around the lower skirt. All are stable and it stood up to cleaning just fine. This was taken into consideration when pricing.

Vicky Tiel was backed by Elizabeth Taylor as a young designer after working on the costume for 'Whats New Pussycat'. After a stint with a partner she launched her self named label in Paris in 1970. She as one of the very early boutique owner/designer that offered a ready-to-wear option in Paris. That said, her clothes often walk a fine line between ready-to-wear and couture in terms of their construction and techniques used. By the mid to late seventies her style had developed into the ultra sexy and feminine clothing that she is now known best for. By the eighties and into the nineties, she had a cult celebrity following. This is a stunning example of just how sexy and dramatic her work could get. 

This dramatic little dress by Vicky Tiel is fabulous. It is made from a fantastic metallic gold lace type fabric that has a black base over which the gold has been directly applied. This allows the black to peek through and the gold really highlights the pattern in the fabric. It gives it extra depth and visual interest. This then sits over an inner fitted base that is structured and molded to the body. It is shaped like a corset inside to give you shape with both boning and inner structure. The front has a plunging version of a sweetheart neckline and I love the dramatic curve of it. The bodice is molded tot he torso and covered with gathers that emphasize your curves. Amazing little cap sleeves sit off the shoulders and wrap around the upper arms. The waist nips in and it is fitted around the upper hips. Under that the skirt explodes out in a dramatic pouf of fabric that is fall all the way around. the shape is held by layers of stiffened organza and tulle under the gold. Countless modern pieces right now are based on dresses just like this and I am happy to have this amazing original in the shop. Excellent condition.

This wonderful dress is from the 2003-2004 era and displays the hyper feminine, nod the the thirties and forties that was running through some of his work during this time period. It is made of feather light silk chiffon that is cut to float around the body. This is contrasted with the extreme molded breast cups. These are almost rigid and shaped to give you perfectly rounded breasts. The sit independently and are further highlighted with the covering of the silk chiffon and the way it is set in a provocative ruffle along the upper edge. Under this the chiffon is cut and shaped by seaming. It is a play on the way thirties dress were made but here he takes the curving seams tot he extreme and almost build shapes using them. The hem line is asymmetrical and hangs at different lengths. The dress is suspended by tiny little straps that curve around the neck and then twist and buttons into place while crossing over them selves. These ,eave the skin of the back bare. The second you move the skirts waft around you and the curves of the body are shown underneath. It is very sensual and very beautiful. I love the cherry print that covers the silk. Literally the 'cherry on top'. Excellent condition.

Fully lined on a very fine white bias cut silk. It slip on to wear and the ties button onto place. there is one more that runs across the lower back but it would not button into place on my dress form. The ties are twisted together on spots and this is deliberate. The breast cups are molded. Tagged vintage McQueen 40. Bias cut so may come up in length a bit depending on your frame.

This is an extremely rare and early set by North Beach Leather dating to the late 1960s, early 1970s. Michael Hoban and Frank Morgan started the label in 1967 and quickly gained a huge following. Elvis Presley, Tina Turner, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Elton John... all major celebrities that wore the label. It was expensive in its day and each piece was made entirely by hand.

The set is entirely hand crafted using a combination of a deep chocolate suede, beads and feathers. The set is made up of two pieces. The top is a tiny halter top that ties onto place with the long braided suede cords that curve over the shoulders, cross and loop into the sides of the halter and then tie at the low back. This leaves you very bare across the back. The front dips low between each side of the halter triangles and the entire midriff is exposed. Hand placed feathers adorn the center. The same feather detailing is picked up on the skirt. The skirt is cut long and then wraps and buttons into place. Each button is hand covered in a matching suede and each button hole hand finished with their signature whip stitching. Feathers are hand placed in little bunches that are each finished with a a leather base that is accented with a hand made clay bead. These run down the high slit on the one side under the buttons and then around the hem. All of the edges are finished with whip stitching and you can easily see the hand work inside as well. It is incredible and a very rare example of the early work they were doing. Excellent condition

I have a small collection of historically important, key designer labelled vintage furs, feather and fur/feather trimmed pieces stored away in my archives that I will be slowly posting on the site over the next couple of years until I have none left. I will no longer be buying furs for the shop moving forward and have not purchased anything for several years now. I feel like times have changed and while there still is a place for vintage furs for some, including collectors and historians, many modern girls are choosing other options. Many of the pieces in my collection are representative of the designer during a set time period in history that was different then our modern outlook. I have decided that the best course to handle this controversial issue is to let the pieces I have go rather then sit in a cold storage unit. All fur and feather pieces are final sale.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art hosted a Jacqueline de Ribes exhibit in 2015-16, giving her work an extra dose of much needed attention. De Ribes was know as 'one of the most celebrated fashion personas of the 20th century'. She began making dresses for herself and eventually opened her own label in 1982 at the age of 53, producing collections for the next 12 years.

This beautiful print silk dress looks like it could have just stepped off the runway. Her signature long and lean lines are combined with a genius cut and a inner foundation that shapes and molds the body. The dress is made out of a fine silk that has a vibrant floral design that combines a bright pink, red, deep raspberry and green. The effect of all those brilliant colors together is wonderful. The bodice is fitted with hand placed, soft gathers the lie over an inner, built in, foundation that curves over and past the hips on the interior. This gives you both shape and support. Wide silk straps curve up and over the shoulders and pick up the gathered detailing on the bodice. The back plunges low leaving your back bare and I love how it is squared off.  The waist nips in and the skirt flows to the floor in a long line of fabric from there. At the back, the skirt has a high slit to allow you to walk and move easily. Inside the dress is finished to demi-couture standards and by hand. It looks to have never been worn or worn very little. Excellent condition.

Fully interlined in a white silk and closes with a hand set back zipper. A panel of fabric crosses the back and hooks into place. The inner bust has a full to the hip corseted interior with built in cups, boning and a waist stay. There is no de Ribes label present but it has the correct hand written style/fabric tag for her pieces

I have had a similar dress to this one in the shop before that was in a darker color combination and with slightly different neckline, but I think that I love the vibrant pink of this one even more. It is a stunning design and I was very happy to find that it was the dress featured in the ad campaign for the brand in 1973 as seen in the reference photo included her.

The dress is made out of an easy to wear and travel with silk jersey in a bright vibrant pink. Using this particular fabric not only made it travel friendly - you can literally pull it out of a suitcase and it will be virtually wrinkle free - but it also allows the colors to stay as crisp and true as they would have been when it was produced. I love the brightness of it and it is even better in person. The dress is cut halter style at the front where it is cleverly sewn down the upper center part to stay closed and then opens below that. From just under the bust to the waist seam is left open to shows off an expanse of bare skin. The straps cross over them selves and then wrap around the neck to close. This leaves the back completely bare to the waist. Under that the skirt falls to the floor and even has pockets on each hip. Excellent condition with one tiny note below

Unlined and ties at the neck. Closes with a low back painted metal zipper and snaps at the waist band. Hand finished. I see a small area of a nick to the fabric near the side seam towards the front. Please see the photo after the label shot. It is very minor and appears to be stable. The color is brighter and a more vivid pink in person. Tagged a vintage 4. Note the waist does close properly - it was just a little small on the dress form.

This is a more recent and modern interpretation of the classic Pucci dress and it is gorgeous. The print is a spin on one of his classics archival prints which gives it an amazing vintage feel. Pucci's colours and prints were mixed with a masterful hand and even when the modern day house recreates the archives looks it is a testament to his genius. This is one has been done in a happy and joyful mix of pinks. The dress is made out of a lightweight silk jersey which is a fabric that the label has long preferred using because of the way it moves and takes colour. The silk is screened with the print that you see and it runs down the entire dress and all the way around. The bodice is sleeveless and cut to skim over the bust. The front is cut into a V neckline that has an intricate geometric printed border following the V and then it curves around the waist. Under that the skirt flows to the floor and it is cut to supermodel length. The pink has been used from head to toe with pops of the white and tangerine that work beautifully with each other.  The dress is wonderfully bright and happy in feel. It has its original tags and has never been worn. Excellent condition.

Fully lined in a pink silk jersey and closes with a side hidden, painted metal zipper. The fabric is a silk jersey and does have some stretch. Note that the color is more intense in person and is even better then how it photoed. Tagged a modern US4. Original hang tag attached.

George Stavropoulos was known for his evening wear and his signature looks that often involved draping and the use of multiple layers of silk done on a bias cut. He focused on cut and fabric to convey the beauty of each piece. It was said that his gowns "seemed to float on air". He launched his label in 1960 and soon was dressing women like Elizabeth Taylor, Jackie Kennedy, Barbra Streisand and Maria Callas. His dresses were made by hand and to couture standards. By the early 1980s a gown by him started at around $8500 and they went up in cost from there - that starting price point equals to around $26,000US in today's dollars. So when you buy a vintage Stavropoulos gown you are getting incredible value for your money.

The simplicity of this dress when you first look at it hides the incredible craftsmanship used to create it. I love the light and airy feel of the dress that is created by the yards and yards of silk chiffon used in its construction. Working in this type of fabric is already difficult and this would have taken many hours of work to execute the making of this dress by hand. The column of silk that you see has been cut on the bias. Incredibly, there are four full layers of silk used to make up the body of the dress. This gives it enough of an opaqueness to wear and also gives it a lovely movement and makes it very comfortable to wear once on the body. The layers sit over each other perfectly aligned and in a sheath silhouette so it is very easy to wear. The sleeves are made of a single layer of the chiffon. On one shoulder is an attached long panel that gives it a caped effect. This trails all the way down to the hem and adds a touch of drama as you move. It flows behind you as you walk and it creates a very pretty effect with its slight transparency. It is very beautiful. Excellent condition with a couple of minor notes below

The body of the dress has four layers of silk chiffon. It closes with a hand set, zipper at the back. Immaculately constructed. It appears to have been worn very little if at all. The bias cut allows for some range in the measurements as indicated below. There is the slightest bit of a pull on one sleeve. I see the slightest bit of teeny snags to the silk here and there but very very minor and just mentioned for accuracy. Please see the last photo after the label shot.

This is a spectacular bold silhouette Balmain dress by Olivier Rousteing. The fabric is great. It's just heavy enough to hold the shape and structure that the dress has but without feeling thick or too structured. The shoulders have Rousteing's signature bold and sharp shape and the sleeves taper to the wrist from there. The fabric on the skirt is draped in towards the center front so that you get the effect that the hips are wrapped in it. The front bodice also is wrapped down and into that center knot giving the illusion of an even smaller waist. The bodice of the dress has a long open keyholes at the front and this is balanced by a high neckline. At the back, the Balmain signature chunky zipper runs down the back. It is spectacular and sexy and a collectible both now and as a future vintage piece. It appears to have never been worn. Excellent condition.

Jacques Heim began his career working at his parents fur business. In 1923 he took that business over and made it into his own vision. Heim began designing a line of made to order, in-house couture pieces that used original fabrics, most notably, those of Sonia Delauney. In 1930 his younf label became an official member of Haute Couture and his self-named label, Jacques Heim, was born. Jacques remained at the helm of his business until his death in 1967. The label was shuttered by 1969.

This dress is a wonderful example of his work in the 1950s. The label has the additional wording of 'sur autorization speciale, Maria Carine Paris' (made by Maria Carine Paris with special authorization). Garments with this label are best explained by this excerpt: 'Maria Carine was owned by Maria Moutet-Chenu. She worked with four couturiers: Heim, Desses, LaRoche, and Lanvin. After the couture showings, each couturier would give her sketches based upon the garments they had just shown. Moutet-Chenu made the toiles which were approved by the designers. Then each garment was cut individually by hand in the Maria Carine workrooms in Paris using the same fabrics that were used for the couture garment. Maria employed hundreds of seamstresses, many of whom worked in their own homes. They sewed each garment individually to exacting standards. This was the highest of early high-end ready-to-wear.'

In other words - this is a fully authorized piece by the couture house. It would have been completely overseen by Heim and was the way the house would have produced demi-couture and ready-to-wear pieces for their clients. Maria and her seamstresses were only utilized to produce garments in this method for a small window of time before more mass market production methods took over that were a lot cheaper. It is a wonderful example of a very small moment in time when the quality was still very high.

I love the classic cut of this dress. It is cut to skim over your curves of the bodice and the sleeves are an extended curve of the fabric of the bust so that there are no seams at the shoulder or arm to break the line. The waist nips in and the skirt is cut slightly slimmer at the front and then very full at the back. I have styled it over a light crinoline to show you the shape. If you wished to get a very full skirted look you could but not without adjusting the inner lining which is cut in a more straight shape. The fabric is wonderful. It is a deep, non-metallic French gold lace that is applied over a fine black silk net. I love that all the edges are left so that the follow the floral pattern in the lace to give them a softer, curving scalloped finish. The sleeves are cut tot he elbow and they, along with the upper shoulders, are left unlined so you see a peek of skin through the lace. It is simplicity mixed with a masterful seaming and cutting and extraordinary fabric. Hand finishes and extra detail throughout. Excellent condition

Fully in a black taffeta and closes with a back painted metal zipper. Pinking shear finishes to the interior seams and hand finished throughout. The added crinoline is not included.
