This exceptional dress is by Marc Bohan for Christian Dior and it is a wonderful example of his work during this time period. We have dated it to the Fall 1979 collection based on the reference and runway photos we found of pieces with similar fabric and cuts. I love that it feels like a throwback to the work of the original Mr. Dior and that it has such a beautiful feel of old world glamour to it. Bohan's work was integral to the labels development over the decades that he headed the atelier and this is a stunning example of his vision. Beyond that it is just an extraordinarily beautiful dress.

I love the nod to the 1950s in this dress. It has that classic little New Look shape to it that we all love and associate with the house of Dior. At the front the neckline is squared off by how the sleeves are set into the dress combined with the straight across cut of the neckline. Across the front of the neckline it is detailed with a wide black silk ribbon that has a pretty bow at the front. The sleeves are a single layer of the silk netting are are covered with those pretty white sequins. They curve softly over the shoulders and fall just below the elbow. The transparency of the netting lets you see a glimpse of the skin underneath. At the back the netting angles down towards the centre of the back where they meet another wide black ribbon finish there as well. The bodice is gathered across and into a vertical strip of the fabric that is detailed with three rhinestone and crusted buttons. It skims over you to the waist with a boned and shaped interior. The skirt is gathered in all around the waist and there is a great amount of fabric in the skirt. This allows it to fall in those soft folds that you see but when you move it has incredible movement. The bottom is anchored by another wide finish of black silk satin ribbon that ties the entire dress together. I love that the entire dress is covered with hand sewn white sequins and there two secondary patterns worked through the netting that gives it added texture. It is incredibly beautiful and the photos don't truly convey the sense of texture the dress has in person. It is a stunning example of Dior from this time period that somehow manages to feel perfectly timeless. Excellent condition.

Fully lined in a black silk chiffon. It closes with a hidden set backer and a hook and eye at the inner waist stay. The interior of the bodice is lightly boned and shaped.

This is the second exceptional dress is by Marc Bohan for Christian Dior that I have in the shop for you today. It is a touch later than the other one and you can see that in its lines and design. This is an equally wonderful example of his work during this time period as the other is from the earlier date. We have dated it to the Fall 1985 collection based on the runway photos we found of a dress with a remarkably similar in cut but that was shown in a solid velvet. I personally preferred this one which is far more interest in visually. It has such a beautiful glamour to it. I feel that it perfectly represents this time period. His work was integral to the label's development over the decades that he headed the atelier and this is a stunning example of his vision. Beyond that it is just an extraordinarily beautiful and sexy dress.

The first thing that will strike you about this dress is that it is incredibly light and incredibly soft. The fabric is a black silk chiffon that has silk velvet fused onto its surface in that striking floral pattern that you see. In between the velvet the silk has a touch of transparency to it so that you see the body wearing it underneath. You will need to wear this over something but as far as how bare that piece underneath is, is up to you. At the front the dress sits high across the neck and the shoulders are soft. The sleeves are nod to the 1940s and 30s with their unusual design. They are full across the top and when laid out flat they extend out on a sharp angle. I took a photo for you to see. The are cut on a wide curve from there there is this little built in seam above the wrist that causes them to cascade down once on as you can see in the photos. They are very unusual and very beautiful. The body of the dress is completely cut on the bias and it skims over you past the bust, waist and hips. The bottom of the skirt is seamed in a way that is reminiscent of the 1920s and the skirt is set in panels all around so that it has incredible volume. The cut makes it flare out and be very full when you move. When laid out flat the material in the skirt is actually more than a full circle. You can see in the photo where we hold it out how much fabric is in there. The back of the dress and into the sides has been top stitched and these open up when they reach the skirt. This also helps to add to that fullness in the skirt. The back is incredible and has a extremely deep V that leaves the entire upper back bear. You get a sense of how fabulous this is through the reference photos but even those photos don't truly convey how much better this one is done in the lighter fabric and with that transparency this dress has. It is a gorgeous piece and very sexy. Excellent condition.

Unlined and slips on with no closures completely cut on the bias and an incredible piece. It appears to have been worn very little if at all.

The show was held in the remote Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space Preserve in Calabasas, California and Rihanna, Charlize Theron and Solange Knowles were there alongside the fashion pack. The inspiration for the show came from the archives and Chiuri said 'she went to the archives, where she came across the house founder’s Lascaux collection of 1951, inspired by the ancient cave paintings discovered in southwestern France a decade earlier.' The twin of it with the front tacked closed a bit was also worn by Kate Mara in 2017 which shows you how it looks when you do close the plunge a bit. It is also interesting because a very similar dress was shown for the Resort 2008 collection and you can see that progression from the Dior archives to this piece.

The dress is a made out of a feather light silk chiffon that tops inner layers of silk tulle and silk. This fabric combination makes it very light and easy to wear and it feels like a dream once on the body. The lightness of it lets it move and float around you beautifully as you walk and move. The front plunges low to the seam at the slightly empire set to the waist. It crosses over itself a touch at the front and the seam under the bust is detailed with a tiny little ruffle in the same silk. The shoulders twist as they curve over your shoulders and then it falls into another deep V at the back. The panels there sit a wider apart where it meets the waist so you get a more open back feel. The sides are equally as dramatic as the plunge in long Vs to the waist. Under that the skirt flows to the floor and widens out as it nears the hem. There is a tremendous amount of fabric in the skirt and this lets the skirt billow out around you as you move. The top layer of the skirt is a silk chiffon that has a touch of texture to it. There are two layers of silk tulle under that and a final inner layer of silk that acts as the lining. The effect all of these layers have once it is on and moving around you is fantastic. It is fabulous on the body. It appears to have been worn very little if at all. Excellent condition

During John Galliano's years from 1996-2011 at the house of Christian Dior he arguably produced some of the most amazing bias cut and chiffon dresses in the house's history. His work often has a feeling of the decadence and abandonment of the twenties and thirties with their beautiful cuts. This is an amazing example of his work from the Cruise 2010 collection and it is gorgeous. "For Resort, Galliano had a series of softly draping floor-length evening dresses." said Vogue's review and that "Galliano's light touch...made the retro shapes look modern". A near twin of the dress in beige was a part of the presentation and then this is a dress was made for the shops in this stunning colour. It is so classically Galliano for Dior in its shape and cut. It is a real beauty.

The dress is made out of the prettiest deep pink raspberry coloured silk chiffon that has a touch of texture running through it. It is all cut on the bias which is one of his key signatures. The bodice is killer. Twisted silk chiffon straps made of the same fabric curve up and over each shoulder and then they extend into the panels that go over the bodice. The panels are created by that fabric untwisting and then being brought across each other at the front to be attached into the sides. This creates that beautiful crossover effect that you see at the front and gives it a plunge as well. At the back he makes it look like these extend all the way around to the band that runs across the back. It is cut to fall softly over the bodice and have that slightly more bare feel. It then falls from just below the bust to drape down and over the body to the floor. The dress skims and drapes over you as it widens out to the hem. From about the knee down the dress opens up and it is very full. This is created by the addition of long, triangular shaped panels sewn into the lower skirts to open it up and give that the volume that you see. The seaming is highly reminiscent of the work you see from the twenties and thirties which became another of John's signatures. The panels help the dress hold its volume through the lower skirt and the lightness and incredible amount of fabric through the skirt gives you so much movement when you walk or move. It is stunning. This is a dress that when you see it on and you see the movement created in the lower skirt, you just have to gasp. His signature row of tightly spaced silk covered buttons run up one side for that perfect finishing Galliano touch. The dress is even better in person and on the body as the static photos cannot fully convey how the dress moves once on the body. This is the type of dress that only truly comes to life when worn. Excellent condition.

The dress is made out of the prettiest deep pink raspberry coloured silk chiffon that has a touch of texture running through it. It is all cut on the bias which is one of his key signatures. The bodice is killer. Twisted silk chiffon straps made of the same fabric curve up and over each shoulder and then they extend into the panels that go over the bodice. The panels are created by that fabric untwisting and then being brought across each other at the front to be attached into the sides. This creates that beautiful crossover effect that you see at the front and gives it a plunge as well. At the back he makes it look like these extend all the way around to the band that runs across the back. It is cut to fall softly over the bodice and have that slightly more bare feel. It then falls from just below the bust to drape down and over the body to the floor. The dress skims and drapes over you as it widens out to the hem. From about the knee down the dress opens up and it is very full. This is created by the addition of long, triangular shaped panels sewn into the lower skirts to open it up and give that the volume that you see. The seaming is highly reminiscent of the work you see from the twenties and thirties which became another of John's signatures. The panels help the dress hold its volume through the lower skirt and the lightness and incredible amount of fabric through the skirt gives you so much movement when you walk or move. It is stunning. This is a dress that when you see it on and you see the movement created in the lower skirt, you just have to gasp. His signature row of tightly spaced silk covered buttons run up one side for that perfect finishing Galliano touch. The dress is even better in person and on the body as the static photos cannot fully convey how the dress moves once on the body. This is the type of dress that only truly comes to life when worn. Fully lined in a matching silk and closes at the side with a hidden set zipper with a series of decorative silk covered buttons at the opposite side.
