Wonderful 1920s Antique Hand Embroidered Crewel Deep Forest Green Wrap Robe or Coat

This is a remarkable antique wrapped robe that can serve double duty as a light evening coat. These are very difficult to date but I think it would be somewhere near and around the twenties. These type of pieces were constructed with a level of hand work that is getting harder and harder to find. It is not 100% perfect but its construction and beauty far outweigh its small flaws. The exterior is extensively covered with a beautiful crewel embroidery technique that has all been done by hand. The design work is exceptional. Dense embroidery work create a beautiful wide border that runs fully down the front edges, circle each cuff and adorn each little top set pocket on the hip. There is a large medallion of embroidery on the upper back, more along the edges of the side slits and even the ends of the belt have been finished with a little bit of embroidery. The base is a fine and light, deep green coloured wool. It is cut loose and easy like a mens bathrobe would be and you just use the tie belt to wrap and cinch it around you. You can wear this as a spectacular evening coat, or wrap it over something to wear it as a dress, or keep it as a boudoir piece. I love that there is a tiny bit of extra embroidery on one sleeve and I suspect that it is the signature of the artist that did this work. It is exquisite and a testament to the great craftsmanship and highly skilled technique that is rapidly being lost. Excellent overall condition with a note to review below

Unlined and wraps to close with the original belt. The wool is in remarkable condition for its age. The crewel work is also in amazing condition and was all don by hand. It does have various storage marks on the embroidery work and these that present as a darkening/yellowing to the thread. It has been cleaned but I did not have my cleaners be too aggressive with it. Please review all photos provided. I have also included detail photos showing the hand work on the embroidery for both the front and back. Please remember that pieces of this age will have a natural patina and should not be expected to be absolutely perfect (though this is close outside of the discolourations). The loose and open cut should work on a range of sizes.
