Gorgeous Spring 2011 Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci Runway Look 40 Cut Out Silk & Net Leopard Dress

• The twin of this dress walked the runway for Look 40 in the spring 2011 Givenchy Show
• It was made under the creative direction of Riccardo Tisci
• Leopard prints were the key element that ran throughout the collection and the print was used in various colour ways. Zippers were another important element and they were featured prominently throughout. You can see that especially on this dress. Vogue noted that "the essence of the collection lay in the long sheer layers that Tisci draped almost everything. It softened the silhouettes." 
• This was the second last look to be presented in the collection and I love that we have both the runway and video so you can see how spectacular this dress is once on the body.
• The dress combines a printed leopard silk that has a large bold print with a nude toned mesh netting backing the entire top portion of the dress.
• The shoulders have light padding to hold their shape and I love that the padding is not just built into the top of the shoulder but actually lays in and behind the entire cut out peace that is curves over the shoulder and down and into the front and back of the bodice.
• The collar is high and the bodice is cut long and straight to a dropped waist that sits at the top of the hip.
• A wide band is wrapped around the hip and the skirt falls under that to the floor in a cascade of printed silk chiffon. The lightness of the chiffon used in the skirt allows the dress to have the beautiful movement that you see as you move.
• As you look closer at the dress you start to realize the remarkable details that have gone into it. The entire top bodice has hand cut, and hand stitched and applied pieces, to make up the pattern on top of the net. They are strategically placed so that you can wear very little underneath. The netting behind those cut outs let you see a glimpse of skin through it. The more generous cut through the body is offset by this transparency to give the dress an unexpected bit of sexiness.
• A chunky gold zipper runs down the front and then there are two more zippers that wrap around the wide band at the top of the hip. All three are fully functioning zippers. If you wanted an even more bare feel you could open any and have an entirely different look.
• With the extensive handwork that the dress has, these were produced in a very limited quantity.
• The dress is unlined with the front zipper at the front. All of the zippers function. Extensive hand work throughout the upper bodice. It is meant to be full and easy through the body to get that very straight cut feel. It appears to have been worn very little at all.
