Prettiest 1930s Unlabeled Blue Handpainted Floral Dress Made of Unusual Woven Fabric
This is such a pretty dress. It is made of a really unusual fabric that is almost like a really fine tightly woven burlap. I don't think it is an actual burlap but it has that texture to it but in a way that feels elevated. I've never actually seen a fabric like this before you would certainly never see fabric like this in a modern textile. If you are a collector of pieces from this time period you know what I am talking about. The fabric is light in weight and is cut to skim over you. I love the floral print that runs over the entire dress. All of the flowers appear to have been hand-painted onto the fabric. The backdrop is a pale blue that has a slight tint of green to it and then the flowers are done in soft pastels. The neckline is set an a V and the side that overlaps down the front is done in a pretty curving scalloped design. The dress snaps to close under the curves with a series of hidden set snaps. The sleeves have that same pretty scalloped finish to their edges. The waist is seamed but easy and the dress comes with its original matching fabric belt loop buckle so that you can cinch it in for added shape. There are tiny pleats at the top of the hips and these open out to give the skirt some added fullness. The bottom of the skirt is finished with two wide grosgrain ribbons, one in a pale blue, and the other one a pale grey-taupe colour. It is so pretty. Great condition with a note below.
Unlined and closes down the front with hidden set snaps. Hand finishes throughout. I do see light fading across the top of the shoulders and some minor marks on it here and there. Given the age of the dress it is in remarkable condition and so pretty.
