Late 1900 Cameo Celluloid & Bead Bag

Truly a one of a kind find, this bag is straight from the revered collection of one of my best girl's who has finally been convinced to let it go. Its spectacular - really a work of art. Late 1900s the bag is fully beaded and quite large for this time period. Both the front and back are completely covered in glass tube beads in a wild array of colors. Its is very art nouveau in feel - organic rhythms and patterns ans a maters eye for color combination. The handle is also fully beaded and backed with grosgrain ribbon. Inside, it is lined in a brilliant blue silk crepe, which the owner told me was professionally restored prior to her purchase some 30 odd years ago. The frame is really the highlight of this bag. It is celluloid and elaborately carved and gilded. The cameo is exquisitely carved in full 3D relief and set on a blackened backdrop and has an ivory like appearance though I do believe it is also celluloid. The clasp is an intricate push down piece that works inside with brass metal strips that bend to allow the bag to open. It's strong and true and has no issues with opening or closing Its really a rarity to find these celluloid bags this complete. This one has been done completely by hand and is a true piece of art representing the aesthetic movement of that time period.

8" W x 1" D x 13" H (20" including handle)

The bag is completely lined in vibrant blue silk and closes with a clasp at the top. I see one string of beads missing from the bottom loops - one could take an exterior one and fill. I see no bead loss though the body or strap. Some of the thick threads that attach the bag tot he frame have beads some do not. I do not know if that is deliberate (hand made pieces from this time period often had built in "flaws" perfection was something frowned upon as one was not to strive to be more perfect then god) All the threads seem to match so I suspect its either a natural wear from time or was deliberate. I would rate this bag near mint for this time period. It is exceptional.

Note that antique and twenties pieces are final sale. They will be packed exceedingly well and we only sell pieces that will stand up to the stress of shipping, however, having pieces potentially shipped multiple times through multiple customs and countries is too hard on garments that are historically important and deserve to be treated with love and care. Please purchase accordingly.

SIZE GUIDE

Please review all measurements carefully. More often than not, vintage garments do not fit any size category exactly. If in doubt, measure a garment of your own that fits and is a similar cut and compare it's measurements to the listed measurements below.
