Fall 1988 Oscar de la Renta Miss O Gathered Dress w Incredible Back Button Finish
I Have a Question
This is an interesting dress because it's from the Miss O label that Oscar de la Renta started during this time period for his younger audience. What makes it interesting is that a very near version of it walk the runway for the Fall 1988 show. You can see how he slightly changed the design to give it a bit of a younger feel and make it easier to wear. I've included that runway photo here for you said that you can see how fantastic it is on the body. It is a gorgeous little dress
The dress is made out of a soft black jersey fabric that has an almost T-shirt feel to it when you touch it. The fabric is gathered over the dress from the top of the bodice to the hem and all the way around the back. Vertical stitches give it a pattern within the pattern and extra interest. It is to cut to hug the body and the neckline is cut flat across the front. Wide black velvet straps curved over each shoulder and attach to the back. From the front it's a fantastically fitted dress that shows off all your curves and has the interest from the gathering. At the back is where it gets spectacular. A black panel runs over the zipper and onto that panel are seven floral buttons that have rhinestones set inside and into the buttons. This creates a beautiful bit of flash and glitz at the back. Under that there's an inset of black lace lined in a nude chiffon for a sexy little kick as you walk away. It's very chic and sexy. Excellent condition

Fall 1989 Oscar de la Renta Iridescent Green Gold Silk Chiffon Strapless Dress w Matching Cape
I Have a Question
- The twin of this dress was shown on the runway for the Fall 1989 collection.
- It was made under the creative direction of Oscar de la Renta.
- This dress beautifully showcases the genius of Oscar de la Renta and the work that he was doing in this time period. The dress has a beautiful elegance to it and is quite striking.
- This sense of refinement is a constant in Oscar's work and I particularly love the earlier examples of it. You can see how many of the elements in this dress are a reflection of the standards he adhered to for his entire career and body of work.
- This dress is also interesting because I have had a blue version, very similar to this, from Spring 1990. He must have loved this dress so much that he tweaked and repeated the design for the next season.
- The dress is made from multiple layers of a lightweight iridescent silk chiffon in the most stunning deep green gold colour. The iridescent quality of the colour in person allows it to change and shimmer in the light. It is an extremely beautiful fabric choice.
- The bodice has an elaborate gathering of silk over it that crosses over itself into one side of the waist. This is also the point where a panel of silk extends from the back to hook into place so there is one unbroken line all the way around your waistline.
- It is strapless and the neckline is cut into a rounded sweetheart shape that is very flattering. The bodice is fitted and shaped. It cinches in at the waist with light interior side boning to help hold the shape.
- The skirt cascades to the floor and at the front it wraps over itself and curves up and into that side point of the waist. The draping that it creates down the side is stunning.
- The skirt is made up of three layers of weightless silk chiffon and this lets the skirt float over and around the body to give it the feel of airiness and lightness. The lightness of the silk gives it a gorgeous movement when you move and walk.
- It comes with a matching huge silk chiffon shawl / cape piece. It has a tiny silk covered button and loop at the neck to hold it in place and then it simply floats over your shoulders and let billow out around you. I love that you can wear it flung over both shoulders, fully down the front for more coverage or with just one side flung over a shoulder.
- It is incredibly beautiful and it moves like a dream once on.
- The dress is fully lined through the bodice in a hand set matching silk and the three layers of silk chiffon the skirt is made of serve as its lining. The dress closes with a back zipper. Hand finishes.

Spectacular Spring 2005 Oscar de la Renta Runway Look 53 Strapless Deep Pink Silk Dress w Full Skirts
I Have a Question
- The near twin of this dress walked the Spring 2005 ODLR runway for Look 53.
- It was made under the creative direction of Oscar de la Renta.
- I love having video and the reference photos however I do want to point out that the skirt on this dress is slightly different than the one that walked the runway. It falls longer and is swept up slightly to one side. I think after the runway, they reconfigured the skirt slightly and it is far better on this dress than what you see in the runway photos and video.
- Vogue said that his collections "are a delight to the eye: flawlessly executed, poised, and urbane with just the right balance of mature charm and youthful exuberance" and this dress in particular was noted when they said "When it comes to evening wear no one knows more about giving women what they want... a cooly elegant strapless dress with an undulating puff skirt? In Oscar's world there's no such thing as the wrong choice."
- The dress is made out of the perfect deep fuchsia pink silk. It is strapless and the neckline curves around and over the bust dipping in the middle. The strapless silhouette leaves your upper back bare and exposed.
- Starting at the waist area the silk is draped from the centre of the back and wraps around the waist and over the top of the hip on either side. It is then gathered over itself at the centre front. I think this detail is beautiful.
- Inside there is a full built-in corset that is cupped, boned and shaped for support.
- The skirt is spectacular. Here you see the genius of Oscar. The skirt has a ton of volume to it that shows best when you move. It is made out of a cascade of silk with a second layer under the top layer. At the front both layers are cut shorter and then sweep and curve around to the back.
- The skirt becomes wider and more full as it nears the hem and at the back it falls longer then the front so that you get this pretty curve from the side view along with a fantastic sweep of skirts from the back. On the runway, this was very symmetrical and shorter but this has that second inner layer that falls lower on the leg and it has a bit more of an asymmetrical feel. It is so much better and more dramatic than how it was shown on the runway in my opinion.
- All of the volume is created by the sheer amount of silk used and the addition of a pink silk organza lining which helps to hold air between the two layers and keep the volume.
- When this is on and you are walking the effect and movement that this creates is absolutely gorgeous. This is Oscar at his very best.
- The dress is fully lined in a matching pink silk organza. The interior corset closes with its own zipper at the back and then a second hidden set zipper closes the dress over that. The inner corset is fully boned and cupped. An attached inner waist stay hooks to close. I see a tiny bit of stress to the seam just under the zipper that is very minor but mentioned for accuracy, and perhaps some grubbiness around the hem, again very minor but mentioned for accuracy.
- There is no size tag present so please go by the measurements listed below.

Gorgeous Spring 1992 Oscar de la Renta Runway Black Silk Organza Net Ruffled Off Shoulder Dress
I Have a Question
- The twin of this dress walk the runway for the Spring 1992 ODLR collection.
- It was made under the creative direction of Oscar de la Renta.
- This was an incredible collection filled with beautiful things and I am very pleased to have a second dress from it in the shop at the moment after just listing that full length lace dress recently.
- The dress is made out of a black silk organza that has a woven effect so that it has a slight transparency and almost the feel of a netting.
- The neckline is set wide across so that it sits off of the shoulders it's a bit of a elastic around the part that goes around your arm for comfort. You can also choose to wear it more up and on the shoulder. A wide 5" ruffle follows the entire neckline and gives it the prettiest flounce all the way around you.
- Under that the bodice skims down, curves in a touch at the natural waist, and then curves back down to a seam that sits at the top of the hip. If you wanted to add more shape, it would be easy to add a belt.
- The skirt is created by stocking ruffles that overlap each other all the way down to the hem. They get progressively wider as they go down the length of the skirt and this is what gives the skirt its incredible volume.
- The skirt falls shorter at the front and then the back is quite a bit longer. I love how this adds to the volume and detail of the skirt and still allows for a flash of leg to show. At the front there are six layers of ruffles and at the back there are ten. That, combined with the lightness of the fabric, gives you fantastic movement when you move. You can see this in the reference runway video.
- This is an absolutely stunning dress and this particular cut of dress is one of my favourites. .
- The dress is fully lined in a black silk with a built-in inner bodice that is lightly boned for support. The inner bodice closes with its own zipper. A waist stay hooks to close. Over that the dress closes with a hidden set back zipper. It appears to have been worn very little if at all.

Fall 2002 Oscar de la Renta Runway Look 50 Purple Silk Dress w Hand Applied Patchwork
I Have a Question
- The near twin of this dress walked the Fall 2002 runway for Look 50 in the collection.
- It was made under the creative direction of Oscar de la Renta.
- Photos from a Moroccan open air market were projected onto the stagefront and this is what set the tone for the show that season. In the review of the collection that year Vogue commented; 'There was a whiff of far-flung exoticism throughout the collection... almost every outfit got a touch of spice via embroidery, (or) a dusting of sequins. De la Renta ended as always, with a parade of great evening wear... just a thing for midnight at the Medina.'
- The dress has this fabulous almost sculptural feel with is simple cut and that beautiful deep purple silk fabric. It's full coverage keeps it feeling very refined and elegant.
- The silk is a very high quality and feels very smooth to the touch. This fabric choice keeps it fairly light in weight but it still has enough structure to hold that gorgeous shape that you see.
- The neck is a shallow scoop and the bodice is cut to skim over you. The shoulders are shaped but soft and the sleeves are long and slightly taper down to the wrist.
- The waist is brought in through curved vertical seaming and the skirt falls from there to the floor.
- I love the patchwork panels that are added all the way around the lower hem. These are made up of a variety of embroidered silks and velvets that have the occasional mirrored embellishment worked within the embroidery. These run all the way around the hem and up and into the skirt.
- Underneath the top layer is a vivid pink underskirt with a stiffen hem and ruffle covering over that. I have taken a photo to show you how the very edge of this ruffle peaks out from underneath the outer hem of the skirt for an unexpected shot of vibrant colour.
- The underskirt helps add support and hold the fullness of the skirt. It adds a pretty sense of sweeping skirts as you walk away.
- Hidden pockets are set along each hip.
- The dress is fully lined in a vibrant pink silk. It closes with a hidden back set zipper and each sleeve has a hidden set zipper at its cuff. There is a tiny bit of stress to the center and one side seam near the waist at the back. Please see the photo after the label shot. The zipper has a tiny bit of stick when it hits the spot. Spectacular Spring 1992 Oscar de la Renta Extremely Fine Black Lace Dress w Tiered Ruffled Full Skirt
I Have a Question
- This is an absolutely incredible piece that dates to the Spring 1992 collection.
- It was made under the creative direction of Oscar de la Renta.
- We have not yet found a photo from the collection of this exact dress but we did find a shorter version that has the exact same top.
- This might be one of my favourite dresses I have had in the shop. The photos do not do it full justice and it is only when you see it in person that you realize just how beautiful it is.
- The dress is made out of a fine black lace. The lace completely covers the dress and there are many, many yards of lace that have gone into making this dress.
- There a built-in inner fitted bodice that is strapless and is meant to be seen through the outer layer of lace. This inner layer is lined in a black tissue silk and is lightly boned for support. Lace covers this inner bodice and extends out to form the little cap sleeves.
- At the back the inner corset scoops down into a low V with a single layer of lace over the upper back. This makes it feel very elegant but still very sexy.
- I love the play on transparency that the upper portion of the dress has.
- The waist nips in and then the dress glides over the hips to fall to the floor in a wide expanse of silk and lace. The fullness of the skirt is absolutely incredible and again there is a strong play on transparency with all of the layers that make up the skirt.
- Under the top lace layer of the skirt are three layers of silk organza. Two black silk layers sit directly under the top lace and then the final innermost layer is a silk chiffon. The two innermost layers both have wide bands of stiffening around the hem and the layer that sits directly under the lace has three stacked stiffened bands going up the skirt. This is what helps to hold the incredible shape and volume that you see.
- The skirt is extremely full and has many yards of lace in its construction. The volume that you see was all created by the sheer amount of fabric, the cut and the seven lace tiers that run over the entire lower portion of the skirt.
- I love the tiers of lace that cover the lower part of the skirt. Each is set to slightly overlap the next one down. No expense was spared on the lace in the dress. Even the area between the tiers have been finished with lace despite that fact that you cannot see them. Each tier has lace that is set so that the edges are scalloped to follow the pattern in the lace. I took a photo where I hold the skirt up on one side and this will give you an idea of the amount of yardage the skirt has. It is incredible.
- The inner construction of this dress is as good as the exterior and it is made to a demi-couture level with hand finishes throughout.
- The dress closes with a back zipper where the inner corset starts. The neck hooks to close and there is a keyhole between the top of the neck and the zipper. It is lightly boned through the bodice. An inner waist stay hooks to close. It appears to have been worn very little if at all.
- There is no there is no size tag present so please go by the measurements listed below.
