Dreamy Spring 2002 Blumarine Runway Black Silk Net & Chiffon Floral Sequin & Bead Dress

These beaded floral pieces were a significant part of the spring 2002 Blumarine show and collection with several pieces having this bead and sequin floral pattern on them. On the runway a very similar dress was shown with no lining inside the top portion of the dress and with a belt added over the hips that brought in some red and pink fringes to the look. Once this went to the stores it was sent lined so the top is slightly more opaque and wearable. We have included runway shots here to show you how this looks like on an actual body. Anna Molinari and husband Gianpaolo Tarabini launched the Blumarine label in 1977 out of Capri and had their first catwalk show in 1980. By the 1990s they had opened their first stand alone shop. This is a gorgeous example of just how intricate they work could get and why they were such an insanely popular label during this time period. 

This dress is a dream. The outer layer of the drop waist bodice is a black silk netting and then it is lined in a black silk chiffon. The skirt is a layer of black silk chiffon layered over an inner chiffon lining. The cut is reminiscent of the 1920s. The neckline is a simple V and it has just a hint of a cap sleeve that extends over the shoulder. It skims over the bodice, past the waist to the low dropped seam around the hips. The skirt is cut with an uneven hem and raw edge finish. Long vertical strips of a black lace intercept the many panels of the skirt for a pretty detailing. Doing the skirt in panels like this gives the skirt  tons of volume and movement. Set all the way around the seam at the hip are a series of fringes that mix a fine black silk cord with long beaded fringes. Some are set in little loops around the seam and then the rest drop past the hem of the skirt. This gives the dress tremendous movement and the fringes pick up the light as they move as you when you move. The top is even more detailed with an explosion of pink flowers with green leaves. These have been created by the application of a pink silk chiffon applied onto the netting and then that has a heavy application of tiny pink and ivory iridescent sequins mixed with little prong set rhinestones. The leaves are done with a combination of teeny green sequins and little seed beans. More leaves are made up of black sequins and beads. Please cover the entire body is right to that drops seem and are absolutely beautiful to see in person. This is an amazing piece and a gorgeous dress. Excellent condition.
