c.Spring 1986 Yves Saint Laurent Haute Couture Floral Silk with Belt

The Shrimpton Couture Archives

  • We believe this beautiful dress is from the Spring 1986 Haute Couture collection.
  • It was made under the creative direction of Yves Saint Laurent
  • It would have been completely made by hand in the Paris atelier.
  • The dress is actually phenomenal and I do not love how it photo on my dress form. It is so good in person and it really is a piece that needs a actual body inside of it to come to life.
  • The silk it is made out of is beautiful. It has a secondary pattern in it that catches the light and gives it the illusion of some texture. Onto that is a floral print that feels like a hand drawn sketch coloured in and then screened onto the fabric. I would not be surprised to discover one day that this was one of Yves own sketches.
  • The neckline has a bit of elastic in it and this allows you to wear it off the shoulders for a bare expanse of skin to show. I think you could also wear it up on top of the shoulder if you wished.
  • The dress falls from there and skims over the bust, waist and hips and then glides down to the floor where it widens out in a little flare. The back hem is cut slightly longer than the front for a beautiful line.
  • The sleeves are fabulous. They have his signature wide puffed feel through the upper arm and then narrow down to a hand set zippered hand wrist.
  • The matching tight belt is present and it is extraordinarily long. This allows you to wrap it around the waist or hips as much as you wish and still have a long length of it to hang down.
  • It is really a phenomenal and special piece of true couture by one of the greatest Couturiers of our time.
  • Unlined and closes with a handset back zipper. Slight elastic through the upper neck line and each sleeve zips to close at its cuff. All of the inner edges are finished by hand to Couture standards. Its proper numbered Couture tag is present.
  • The dress has no size tag so please refer to the measurements listed below.
