Beautiful 1980s Pierre Cardin Haute Couture Silk Chiffon Pastel Floral Ruffled Strapless Dress & Cape
The Shrimpton Couture Archives
- The set dates to the late 1970s early-mid 1980s and is a true Haute Couture collection piece.
- It was made under the creative direction of Pierre Cardin
- There are two pieces to the set, an inner strapless dress that could also be worn as an extra long skirt and a matching cape that goes over top of that.
- Both pieces were completely made by hand in the Paris atelier.
- The inner dress has a stiffen inner hem around the upper bodice/waist and then flows over you in a column sheath like silhouette from there. The edge of the lower skirt has a stiffen ribbon ruffle and has a beautiful movement when you move.
- The inner lining of the dress is a woven heavier silk done in the same print. This helps to keep the dress from being too transparent and it also creates a floating print over print effect that is very beautiful.
- Because of the construction we think that it can play double duty as either a more column feeling strapless dress or you could wear it under the bust as a skirt. I love that this lets you play with different ways to style it and potentially gives you different looks.
- The cape is an incredible piece of Couture in its own right.
- It is finished with that same ruffle treatment all the way around the edges of the entire piece. To wear it it's simply slips over the shoulders and ties at the neck to hold it in place.
- The silk of both pieces have been screened with a custom beautiful pastel watercolour floral print that is soft and extremely beautiful.
- The movement and beauty of both of the pieces once they are on is not even close to being conveyed in static photos. As with it most Couture it really needs a body to have it come to life.
- The dress closes with a back zipper and hooks at the top and the cape slips on with ties at the neck. Both pieces appear to have been worn very little at all.
- There is no size tag present because this is true Couture. Please go by the measurements listed below.
