Beautiful 1930s Ivory Silky Rayon Wedding Gown w Train, Puffed Cap Sleeves & Romantic Rosette Detailing
The Shrimpton Couture Archives
- This is an incredible example of the fine work that was done during this time period. It is now so rare and hard to find these early pieces in such amazing condition anymore.
- As beautiful as it looks here on my dress form, it is even better in person.
- The dress is cut in that beautiful and easy way that pieces from this era were done in. It is meant to skim over the bust, waist and hips and then the skirt falls to the floor from there. With that flared out lower skirt and train you also get incredible movement when you move and you see just how much volume is there.
- The neckline is gathered across the front with two pretty and romantic rosettes made of the same fabric and topped with little faux seed pearls. A top shoulder yoke curves out from there at the front, curves over your shoulders and extends down to become the back of the dress. This little bit of gathering of fabric along those seams on either side are what help to create the bit of fullness the bodice has around you at its sides.
- The sleeves are high and capped with a pretty fullness to them created by clever gathering along the seams. Very light pads made of the same fabric sit just inside each shoulder for the most delicate of shaping. The bottom of each sleeve has a peaked panel for an extra pretty detail.
- The waist is seamed with an upward facing peaked seam. It skims softly over the hips from there and widens out so that the lower skirt has beautiful volume. This is all achieved by long vertical panels that widen out as they near the hem.
- The back is trained and the movement it has when you walk is incredibly soft and romantic feeling. A long row of tightly spaced ivory covered buttons and loops runs down the back to close the dress and add the last perfect detail.
- If you are a fan of these pieces from the thirties you know just how exceptional and rare it is.
- The dress is unlined and closes with the buttons at the back and has no labels present. Small light padding in each shoulder. For a garment almost 100 years old it is in amazing condition. I see a very tiny mark on the fabric near the bottom button at the back. It actually photoed worse than it is in real life. I also see a white mark near the hem to the side of the front. There is a tiny indent in the fabric at the front that I have photoed for you as well. Perhaps the various tiniest scuff here and there but overall it is in fantastic condition.
