1920s Black on Black Silk Embroidered Piano Shawl
Gorgeous embroidered silk Chinese export shawl that is from the twenties. It is a spectacular black on black embroidered design of flowers and birds done in a satin stitch. This mono tone on tone is a little unusual and makes for an interesting piece. It is dramatic and so wearable - you can use it as an evening cape or coat by adding a well placed brooch or use it in your home as a show-stopping accessory. The stitching appears to be primarily machine stitch with some finishes done by hand.
It is edged all the way around with a 22" inch hand knotted silk fringe border. The fringe is in excellent condition with minor wear the the ends as photoed. The inner silk square measures 53" x 53" making at a total of 97" square!
This was lovingly stored properly and is in excellent condition despite being almost 100 years later. Perhaps a touch of softening to the color here and there but this is natural patina and only adds to the beauty of this fabric.
