Rare 1920s Couture Rue De La Paix Flapper Dress

Gres, Doucet, Worth, Paquin, Reboux, the list of some of the greatest designers to exist all had shops on Rue de la Paix in Paris during the 1920s. This amazing dress is a stunning example of work in the period and is also in remarkable condition. The silk velvet has a very subtle stenciling in gold that runs through the fabric. I tried to photo it on the light so you can get an idea. It presents as black but n the light as as one moves it has a shimmering under color to it. Onto this is a heavy and remarkable bead work that covers the entire lower portion of the skirts to just under the bust. The neck and sleeves are rimmed with 4 rows of black and clear glass beads. A penal of velvet come form one shoulder and interconnects with the draped velvet belting that wraps around the waistline and then extends, attached to the skirt to the hem. The bead work is entirely hand applied and very heavy with 3 dimensional aspects. The dress is in excellent, wearable condition with proper care and the love it deserves. It is not just a dress but a work of art and the pictures do not come close to doing it justice - if you even remotely fell in love with it - you will faint from happiness to see it in real life. There are no closures - you just slip it on and go. This is really a remarkable twenties textile. The level of work in this piece would only be found in the highest couture of today! Museum quality and appears to have been worn little if at all. A rare chance to own a piece of 1920s couture!

The fabric is self backed and slips over the head to wear. Remarkable condition with no outstanding flaws to note. There is perhaps the occasional bead missing but for a piece that is almost 100 years old is it to be considered in outstanding, museum quality condition.

Note that antique and twenties pieces are final sale. They will be packed exceedingly well and we only sell pieces that will stand up to the stress of shipping, however, having pieces potentially shipped multiple times through multiple customs and countries is too hard on garments that are historically important and deserve to be treated with love and care. Please purchase accordingly.
