Exceptional Fall 2010 Emilio Pucci by Peter Dundas Look 42 Blue Silk Chiffon Caped Dress

I Have A Question: Exceptional Fall 2010 Emilio Pucci by Peter Dundas Look 42 Blue Silk Chiffon Caped Dress

    • The twin of this dress walked the runway for Look 42 for the Fall 2010 collection.
    • It was made under the creative direction of Peter Dundas.
    • Both Constance Jablonski and Rachel Zoe have worn the twin of the dress and I love that all of this documentation lets you see how amazing it is once on the body.
    • The dress is made out of a deep royal blue silk chiffon that gives the dress incredible movement around you as you move and walk.
    • The front is a halter style and is gathered in all around the neck line. It hooks at the top of a slit that runs from the neck to the waist.
    • Where it hooks there are suede tassel ties dyed to a matching blue and detailed with bronze metal beads that create a gorgeous bohemian feeling detail.
    • The sides dip deep to the waist and at the back it has an almost racer back cut so when you move you get flashes of bare skin.
    • The waist is elastic so it is very easy to fit. On the runway it was shown with a very wide corset belt but it looks equally good without a belt or with a skinnier one.
    • The skirt falls to the floor and widens out as it goes. It is made of two layers of the blue chiffon and has a high front slit for a flash of leg as you walk.
    • The cape effect that the dress has is phenomenal. The panels that create the cape are attached and made from a single layer of the same silk chiffon. It falls to the floor and extends past the hem. It is fantastic. When you move and walk it billows and floats out around you. I love that you can wear it either over or behind the shoulders for two very different looks.
    • The main body of the dress is made from two layers of the chiffon. It slips over the head to wear with an elastic waist and then hooks at the top of the front neck as described above. It is in its original length and appears to have never been worn.
    • Tagged a modern Pucci IT44, FR40, UK12, US10.
    • Excellent condition

Phenomenal Fall 2010 Chanel by Karl Lagerfeld Deep Blue & Silver Metallic Knit Dress w Glass Pearl Detailing

I Have A Question: Phenomenal Fall 2010 Chanel by Karl Lagerfeld Deep Blue & Silver Metallic Knit Dress w Glass Pearl Detailing

    • This dress is from the Act 1 Fall 2010 Chanel collection. The Act 1 is the collection done for shops between the Pre-Fall collection and the runway shows. These are often specialized items that are made on an extremely limited basis.
    • It was made under the creative direction of Karl Lagerfeld.
    • The dress is made out of a slightly more open feeling woven cotton mix knit. The base net is a deep navy and then that has a silver metal thread running through it. This gives the entire dress a subtle shimmer.
    • These amazing textiles are a testament to the commitment that Karl had to continually developing and pushing the envelope when it came to fabrics. This is a fabric that was specifically developed for Chanel.
    • The weave of it gives it a touch of transparency and the dress comes with a little silk chiffon half slip to be worn underneath and make it wearable. I love that the slip is separate because it gives you the option to wear something more bare under it and play on its touch of transparency.
    • The openings for the arms are extended low so they are longer than a normal arm hole. Curving around each is a wide hand braided band made out of blue and white silk cord. There is also a white silk cord that has been hand covered in silk chiffon so that it breaches the colour of the darker blue and white. Chanel's iconic glass pearls are then looped through the cording on each side of the braiding. These have a slight movement to them and it's incredible. A wider band of the same textile is that all the way around the sea that sits at the top of the hip.
    • Given the cost of jewellery with those famous glass Chanel pearls I cannot even imagine the cost to produce this now.
    • The bodice skims over you from its wide, scooped neck line to that seam at the top of the hip creating one long line through the body.
    • At the back there is a long slit that runs from the button at the neck to the seam at the top of the hip. There is a hook hidden about midway down that you can choose to wear it more closed or you can leave that slit open all the way.
    • The skirt falls to the floor from there and it is gathered softly into the band that circles the top of the hip. It widen out slightly as it near the floor and there are high slits that run along the outer edge on both sides so that you get a flash of leg when you walk.
    • This is a spectacular Chanel and my photos are not coming close to doing it justice.
    • The inner matching slip acts as the lining and slips on with no closures. The outer dress slips on and hooks at the back of the neck. There is a hook halfway down the opening of the back and then it has hidden set hooks on the band that circles around the top of the hips.
    • It is brand new with its original hangtags and its Chanel packet and was never worn. These fantasy level dresses are currently $15-30K+ at Chanel.
    • Tagged a vintage Chanel size 38.

Exceptional 1970s George Stavropoulos Couture Black Silk & Bias Cut Dress w Balloon Sleeves & Flowing Skirt

I Have A Question: Exceptional 1970s George Stavropoulos Couture Black Silk & Bias Cut Dress w Balloon Sleeves & Flowing Skirt

    • George Stavropoulos was known for his evening wear and his signature looks often involved draping and the use of silk done on a bias cut. He focused on cut and fabric to convey the beauty of each piece. It was said that his gowns 'seemed to float on air'.
    • He launched his label in 1960 and soon was dressing women like Elizabeth Taylor, Jackie Kennedy, Barbra Streisand and Maria Callas.
    • The majority of his gowns are almost entirely made by hand and to couture standards.
    • The dress is made out of a layer of a bias cut black silk that sits over two more layers of black silk chiffon. The inner layers are also bias cut and the three layers float over each other perfectly to drape over the body.
    • The neckline is scooped across the front and the shoulders are soft.
    • From there the dress falls in this extravagant swoosh of bias cut silk. It is cut very long and it falls over you with the seaming shaping the dress and giving it the shape that you see.
    • It skims loosely over the bust and comes in at the waist. A seam starts just under the arm and curves down in an elongated point at the front. This is what gives the waste shape. I love how the silk has been lightly gathered in along that seam for a tiny touch of detail. The same same repeats at the back.
    • From there it widen out to curve over the hips. The skirt falls to the floor under that with several yards of silk making up the skirt. The skirt is quite full by the time it reaches the hem and is close to a full circle around.
    • The bias cut lets it swirl and drape around the body underneath and at the same time it feels insanely comfortable to wear.
    • The sleeves are incredible. Each is cut so that they get wider as they reach the ends and then they have been gathered so that they balloon up and over a wide cuff. This gives them stunning movement as well as adding a striking element to the dress.
    • It is immensely flattering once on and should work an a wide variety of shapes. If you wanted more shape you could cinch the waist in with a belt and it would transform the dress into a different feel altogether. This is a dress you will want to wear over and over for every occasion from day to evening.
    • The dress is lined with two layers of silk chiffon through the skirt as described above. The bodice has a black silk lining and the sleeves are unlined. It closes with a back set zipper. Each cuff closes with two hidden set, silk covered snaps. The bias cut does have some give so should fit a variety of sizes. Hand finishes throughout and should be considered to be demi-Couture.
    • There is no size tag presence so please go by the listed measurements below
    • Excellent condition

Fantastic c.1983 Thierry Mugler Black Raw Silk Vertical Panel Dress w Car Wash Hem & Silk Chiffon

I Have A Question: Fantastic c.1983 Thierry Mugler Black Raw Silk Vertical Panel Dress w Car Wash Hem & Silk Chiffon

    • We believe the dress to be from the Spring of 1983 based on the reference photo that we found with a similar design especially given the cut of the lower skirt of that dress.
    • It was made under the creative direction of Thierry Mugler
    • The fabric of the dress is a black raw silk which helps to hold the design and intended shape.
    • The construction of the dress is quite brilliant. Long vertical panels of the fabric have been pieced together side-by-side from the top of the strapless bodice to the hem of the skirt. The long lines created by piecing the panels together like this become a part of the design and the entire dress has been shaped by the manipulation of the sizing and placement of the strips.
    • The bodice is strapless and the tops of the ribbons are set at different heights all around the neck line. Where they rise above the top edge they are not sewn together so you get a very distinctive ribbon feel. I love the added detail this creates.
    • It is meant to fit the bodice and then curves in at the waist. Inside there is for built-in corset that is lightly boned and holds the dress in place around you.
    • From there it curves out and over the hips, comes in slightly just below the knee, and then flares outward again for the lower skirts.
    • Just under the knee the panels open up and are no longer stitched together. This is what gives it the added volume there and creates a 'car wash' feel around you. Behind the panels are three layers of stacked black silk chiffon When you walk you get that bit of transparency between the the panels and it feel very interesting and unexpected. You get a sense of what that will be like in the runway reference photo.
    • The dress is not 100% perfect but is wearable as is. Please make sure to read the condition notes below in full before purchasing.
    • The inner nude silk corset acts as the lining behind the bodice. It is lightly boned and closes with its own side zipper. And attached waist hooks to close. Under that into the top of where the panels open on the skirt, it is lined in a black silk. Three layers of silk chiffon are attached behind the lower portion of the skirt as described above. The dress closes with a hidden set zipper placed over the inner corset zipper. I see fading on the fabric most notably around the the bodice and around the waist. Please see the photos after the label shot. It may be possible to dye the dress to a true black once again. It is wearable as is but the fading is present.  All of the fabric is sound.

Minimalist Vintage Thierry Mugler Black Wide Legged Jumpsuit w Wrapped Front Detail & Flared Sleeves

I Have A Question: Minimalist Vintage Thierry Mugler Black Wide Legged Jumpsuit w Wrapped Front Detail & Flared Sleeves

    • This is a great vintage piece that is wonderfully minimalist in feel and easy to wear.
    • It was made under the creative direction of Thierry Mugler
    • The jumpsuit is made out of a soft black silk that has a beautiful soft drape to it.
    • The cut is very simple and easy but at the same time the lines make it feel dramatic and a true statement piece. It is that perfect mix of being very minimalist yet very striking.
    • The neckline scoops wide across the front and then that scoop continues down into an open V at the back. A panel extends out from one side of the V and wraps across the back and comes to the front. The fabric is gathered into a loop at one side of the waist that has an opening underneath. The panel from the back loops through that opening and snaps into place to create the knot detail at the waist that you see in the photos. This is a very clever way to keep the front feeling minimalist but with an unexpected detail. I also love the bare flash of skin that it exposes through the upper back.
    • The shoulders are soft and the sleeves are long with a slight flare as they reach their ends. The sleeves are low down the side and that line of having them wider near the body and then narrowing and flaring back out is gorgeous.
    • The waist has a bit more generous feel to it but you still get shape by the knot at the side where the panel attaches in from the back as described above.
    • It skims over the hips and then the legs are cut wide to the hem. Once they are on the body they pick up on the flared feel of the sleeves. At the very top and across the hips you can see how he has added extra silk and carried it up and across to meet up and into the knot at the waist. It is all cut brilliantly and is very flattering once on the body.
    • The jumpsuit is fully lined in a black silk except for the sleeves. It closes with a hidden set zipper at the back, and then the panel runs over that and attaches in at the front as described above.

Prettiest Early 1990s Emanuel Ungaro Haute Couture Rose-Pink Silk Wrap Skirt & Tank Top Set Dress

I Have A Question: Prettiest Early 1990s Emanuel Ungaro Haute Couture Rose-Pink Silk Wrap Skirt & Tank Top Set Dress

    • This is original Haute Couture piece dating to the late 1980s, early 1990s.
    • The set was made under the creative direction of Emanuel Ungaro.
    • This would have been completely made by hand in the Paris atelier.
    • This is a stunning two piece set done in a pale pink silk that has a hint of a lavender undertone. The silk is very high-end quality.
    • The top is a classic and easy tank cut. Wider set straps curve over the shoulder and the front is scooped. It has a full and generous cut through the body and flares out slightly at the hem. This is a piece you just slip on and it is very easy to wear.
    • Inside there are little handmade straps across the top of the shoulder that snap into placed to hold your undergarment perfectly. Every stitch is done by hand. Little hidden set hand covered silk snaps close the top up one side.
    • The skirt has an inner band at the waist and it wraps over itself at the front. It closes with hand covered silk snaps and then has hook and eye at the side of the waist. It is gathered into soft pleats along the front and then is opened down its length where it wraps over itself at the front. When you sit or walk a certain way you get a bit of flash of bare leg. It is cut generously over the hips and then narrows down to the hem. The back is cut slightly longer than the front for a pretty line.
    • The top is unlined and the skirt has a nude silk chiffon inner handset lining to just past the hips. The top has snaps up one side as described above and the skirt closes along the waist as described above. A teeny tiny bit of pulling here and there on the back of the skirt. All of the hand work is to Haute Couture standards throughout.
    • There is no size tag present because it is couture so please go by the measurements listed below.
    • Excellent condition

Spring 1985 Yves Saint Laurent Haute Couture Pink Silk Dress w Purple Bodice & Long Front Panel Detail

I Have A Question: Spring 1985 Yves Saint Laurent Haute Couture Pink Silk Dress w Purple Bodice & Long Front Panel Detail

    • This amazing dress is from the Spring 1985 Haute Couture collection.
    • It was made under the creative direction of Yves Saint Laurent.
    • The dress would have been made completely by hand in the Paris atelier.
    • The reference photo we found is of a version with a different sleeved, more covered bodice but has that same long front trailing panel down the front.
    • The dress has a very Old Hollywood / 1940s feel that I love. This is an era that Yves often touched upon in his work.
    • It is made out of a combination of a brilliant pink and a purple with a bit of a pink undertone. The fabric is a silk crepe that drapes beautifully once on.
    • The front is cut across you and I love how the more purple toned silk has been draped and brought over from the sides to wrap all the way around the bodice. At the front he has created the illusion that you have simply tied the dress in place by draping it over itself at the front and then the fabric left extends down from under that all the way to the floor in a flowing panel.
    • The skirt is gathered in under that to fall to the floor. As it reaches the hem it widens out so that when you move it has beautiful movement around you.
    • Tiny piped straps curve over each shoulder and then meet in the centre of the dress at the back.
    • The dress is not perfect but is wearable if you do not mind that it does have some small flaws. Please make sure to read the full description below carefully. This is still an outstanding example of his work during this time period.
    • The dress is fully lined in a pink silk through the bodice. The inner bodice of the dress is boned for support. It has its own side set zipper to close and then the dress closes with a zipper over that at the side. The purple panel wraps over that to snap and hook into place along the top of the bodice and at the centre of the front. The dress has fading and some marks throughout the purple parts. There are along the hem and it has been re-hemmed at some point. I see a couple of faint marks on the skirt but they are under the front tie once it is on. Please see the photos after the label shot. The actual silk is sound and stable. The dress could potentially be dyed if you preferred not to wear it as is. Sold as found and priced accordingly.

Brilliant Spring 1999 Thierry Mugler Curving Pale Pink Dress w Front Iridescent Embellishments

I Have A Question: Brilliant Spring 1999 Thierry Mugler Curving Pale Pink Dress w Front Iridescent Embellishments

    • The closest dress to this that we found is from Spring 1999 from the Couture collection. You can see the very similar shaping through the upper bodice in particular. We believe that this is be ready-to-wear a version of that.
    • It was made under the creative direction of Thierry Mugler
    • The dress is done in a pale pink that is perhaps a touch paler than how it photoed here.
    • The dress is cut with Mugler's masterful eye and attention to detail.
    • The openings for the arms are cut inwards towards the neck and the neck line is set on a beautiful curve. All the seaming on the dress is set either vertically or on a curving angle so that it enhances and highlights the curves of the body.
    • The bust and waist are created by the shaping of those beautifully curving vertical seams. I took a shot of the seams that curve over the hips as it is is really a part of what shapes the dress. Once on this emphasizes the curves of the body.
    • It skims over the hips and then falls to the floor where the skirt widens out as it near the hem. The back hem of the skirt is cut on a slight downward curve so that it falls a little bit longer and gives a fantastic sweep at the back of the dress.
    • The upper portion of the neck line is detailed with a double layered panel of nude mesh. Onto this is a fantastic design that combines iridescent clear tube beads with iridescent mother-of-pearl finished plastic pieces that vary in size. These are all set to curve outward slightly and are in different sizes. It is a really pretty effect.
    • It is an extraordinary dress that is rare and beautiful.
    • The dress is fully lined in the same fabric and closes with a hidden set back zipper. I see one tiny very faint mark on the fabric near the seam of the neck line. Please see the photo after the label shot. There is very minor grubbiness and a tiny bit of fading around the hem. I see a stitch at the very base of the mesh at the front where there may have been one more additional plastic piece. All of these are very minor but mentioned for accuracy. The colour is a bit more of a baby pink than how it photoed. It is in its original uncut length.

Minimalist c.1978 Pierre Cardin Haute Couture Black Silk Chiffon Dress w Huge Balloon Sleeves

I Have A Question: Minimalist c.1978 Pierre Cardin Haute Couture Black Silk Chiffon Dress w Huge Balloon Sleeves

    • When my client sold this to me I told me it was from 1978. We have not yet sourced a runway photo of it because these early collections were not always documented but if we do at some point we will forward that on to its new owner.
    • It was made under the creative direction of Pierre Cardin.
    • The dress would have been made completely by hand in the Paris atelier.
    • The dress is made out of a very high-quality black silk chiffon that is feather light in weight. It gives the dress phenomenal movement around you once on the body.
    • This is a fantastic and surprisingly avant garde Haute Couture dress by Pierre Cardin that shows the breadth and depth of his talent. From a historical perspective it is also an interesting insight on the volume and play on proportion being done during this time period.
    • The design is simple and has a minimalist feel but is still striking and dramatic. It is really a piece that will only truly come to life once on so is a bit of what I like to call a 'trust me' dress because you have to trust a bit on how phenomenal it will be.
    • The neckline is squared off right to the outer edges of the shoulder on both the back in the front. The back dips down a little bit lower for more skin to show. I think that you might be able to also wear this fully off the shoulders if you wished.
    • Inside there is a little strapless soft cupped bra made out of lingerie nude netting.
    • The silk falls from the shoulders and skims over the inner bra, flows generously past the waist and hips and then it widens out a touch more as it nears the floor.
    • Under the top layer of black silk chiffon there is a layer of a dark brown silk chiffon. This keeps the dress from being too transparent and at the same time it creates the illusion that the dress has more transparency than it actually does as the two colours play against each other.
    • The sleeves are phenomenal. They are cut on a curve and are gathered into a piped wrist finished with a little bow, made of the same piping. Once on they pouf and balloon out fantastically above your wrists. They are one of the most exaggerated balloon sleeves that I have ever actually seen on a dress but in the best possible way. On my dress form they appear to hang very long and low but once on and held in place by your wrists they sit properly and billow out around the arm. They are quite brilliant.
    • It is an incredible dress and like many of his pieces it truly will only come to life once there is a body in it.
    • It is remarkable piece of true couture and a true piece of fashion history.
    • The dress is fully lined with a layer of dark brown silk chiffon. It slips on to wear and the inner bra hooks to close. You could adjust the fit a bit by replacing that inner bra with one fitted to you and I have included the measurements of the outer dress for you as well as the inner bra.
    • The dress has no size tag since it is couture so please go by the measurements below.
    • Excellent condition

Sleeves: 24" to the actual wrist and then the sleeve extends another 10" past that when hanging loose. They are 17" around the upper arm.
Inner bra: tagged 34-35B and is 15-17" flat across from side seam to side seam, the outer dress is to 17.5" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: to 16" flat across from side seam to side seam
Hips: to 19-20" flat across from side seam to side seam

Incredible & Rare Fall 1995 Todd Oldham Runway Black Silk Creoe Dress w Large Crystal Detailing

I Have A Question: Incredible & Rare Fall 1995 Todd Oldham Runway Black Silk Creoe Dress w Large Crystal Detailing

    • The twin of this dress walked the runway for the Fall 1995 show.
    • It was made under the creative direction of Todd Oldham.
    • In an interview with Fashion TV Oldham said that the Fall 1995 show "was the biggest collection he had ever done, it was more well rounded, and that he thought he liked it better than any collection he had ever done... It is rich without being alienating"
    • Todd Oldham showed his first collection in 1981 and officially launched his label in 1989. In 1991 he won the Perry Ellis Award for New Fashion Talent. By 1995 he was the darling of the media. His shows were extravagant and all of the reigning supermodels of the day walked his runways.
    • Nothing from his label was being produced in great quantities and the more extravagant dresses like this one are extremely rare and hard to find because they were made in such limited quantities.
    • The dress is made out of a black silk crepe that has a very slight ribbed texture to it. It has a sleek and simple feel to it that perfectly reflects the 1990s. At the same time it has a very elaborate crystal rhinestone detailing done for the straps that elevates the dress perfectly
    • The upper bodice has attached silver metal linked chains that are flexible and have a series of hand set crystal rhinestones set side-by-side along the lengths of the chain and are held in place by prongs set on a mesh ribbon backdrop.
    • The front sweeps up to the neck to a centre peak and the attached rhinestone chains wraps around the neck and then runs down the sides of the back to attach to back of the dress. The first chain is set along the top edge of the dress and runs closer to the neck before curving down the back. The second series of chains are set below that and follow the same line just a few inches apart. I love the crisscross shape that this creates at the front. You can see on the runway pictures how this sits on the body. It is interesting to know that there are no claps or closures. You have to put the dress on and then slip your arms through so that they sit on top of your shoulders.
    • The chains are made out of big chunky glass crystal rhinestones that are very high quality. The pattern on each chain combines a large marquise shaped stone set between two stacked round rhinestones on either side. They are gorgeous.
    • The dress skims over the bust and curves in at the waist. At the back the upper back is left bare and exposed.
    • It curves back out over the hips and then the skirt falls to the floor and gently widens out to the hem. The bottom of the skirt flares out a touch and this gives it some extra fullness and movement as you walk
    • The dress is fully lined in a black silk and closes with a back zipper. There are little soft half cup sewn into the front bust area. Some of the ribbon backing of the chains has come loose where the glue has given out. It appears to sit properly once on regardless, but if you want my seamstress to look at this before sending let me know when you place your order. Please see the photo after the label shot. Hand work throughout.

I Have A Question: Beautiful Fall 2002 Valentino by Mr. Valentino Runway Look 65 Flowing Black Silk Chiffon Caftan Dress

    • The twin of this dress walked the runway in a deep burgundy brown colour for the Fall 2002 collection as Look 65.
    • It was made under the creative direction of the original Mr. Valentino.
    • The dress is made from layers of a feather light black silk chiffon that is cut on the bias. It is an extremely easy dress to wear and fit because it has a definite caftan feel to it.
    • It is cut to sits either just at the edges of the shoulders as I have shot it here or can be worn off the shoulders like how you see it was worn in the runway photos. I love how that bare expanse of skin offsets the fullness of the dress underneath.
    • The sleeves are phenomenal. Each is cut so that it is very full and wide. They cascade down the arm in a double layer of silk and they are split along the upper edge. Each sleeve is cut so that it falls on an angle so that the innermost portion of the sleeve falls much longer than where the outer edge lies creating a cascade of silk down your arm. The lightness of the silk chiffon gives them a ton of movement around the arm when you move.
    • The top of each shoulder is gathered into a series of rounded pleats and more of the same rounded pleats sits on the side of each hip. Long panels of silk chiffon fall from under the pleats set on the outside of each hip. These are cut much like the sleeves with a double layer of silk chiffon stacked on top of each other and ending in different lengths. This adds a tremendous amount of movement to the skirt when you move. I love how they tie in the sleeves and skirt together.
    • The dress skims over the body and widens out quite a bit as it nears the hem. This is what gives the dress its caftan feel. The back hem is cut longer than the front so you get a sweeping feel behind you.
    • The body of the dress is made from three layers of silk chiffon and these act as the lining. The sleeves are made of two layers of the silk as described above. The dress closes with a hidden set back zipper. It appears to have been worn very little if at all. Be easy cut should allow it to fit a range of sizes. On a smaller frame it will just drape more.

Exceptional Fall 1991 Emanuel Ungaro Haute Couture Runway Strapless Hand Draped Iridescent Silk Dress w Bow

I Have A Question: Exceptional Fall 1991 Emanuel Ungaro Haute Couture Runway Strapless Hand Draped Iridescent Silk Dress w Bow

    • This spectacular dress is true Haute Couture from the Spring 1992 collection and its twin walked the runway that season.
    • It was made under the creative direction of Emanuel Ungaro.
    • It would have been completely made by hand in the Paris atelier.
    • The dress has a beautiful structure to it and it is meant to have an hourglass feel once on the body with inner support and it's cut all done to achieve that goal.
    • The dress is made out of an iridescent pink-burgundy-red silk taffeta that has a gorgeous subtle shimmer over it. That slight iridescent quality helps to highlight the cut, curve and draping in the dress.
    • The top of the bodice is rounded and shaped to plunge between the breasts. It curves around the back from there to leave the upper back bare and exposed.
    • The silk has been hand draped over the bodice and I love how it crosses over itself at the front. The shape of the bodice is very sexy and a nod to Old Hollywood.
    • The draping continues down on an angle to the hip on the opposite side. The silk sweeps over the hips and one side falls to just above the knee. That is all gathered up and into the bow on one hip. This wrapping around the body with the deliberate placement and angling of the hand drape silk is what really gives you that hourglass feel.
    • The oversized bow on one hip is made from the same silk with added handmade velvet flowers at its centre. The velvet flowers are handmade and have their own label.
    • Set under the angled seam that makes the top portion of the dress is a spectacular tiered and ruffled lower skirt that is created by spiralling the silk around the body. This also allows it to have that beautiful flare that you see. When this is on and moving, the skirt kicks out around you and adds too the bombshell feel the dress has.
    • The dress is fully lined in a matching silk. There is built in hidden support and boned structure through bodice. The dress closes with a back set zipper. Where some of the stitching is done and along the edges of where the zipper is set, you can see the under colour of the taffeta. Please see the photo after the label shot. There are some minor marks around the hem at the longest point. This is all very minor and mentioned for accuracy
    • There is no size tag present because it is Couture so please go by the measurements listed below.

Exceptional & Important Spring 1980 Yves Saint Laurent Runway Red & White Print Silk Organza Dress

I Have A Question: Exceptional & Important Spring 1980 Yves Saint Laurent Runway Red & White Print Silk Organza Dress

    • Several versions of this dress walked the runway for the Spring 1980 collection.
    • It was made under the creative direction of Yves Saint Laurent.
    • This dress and the various prints it was made in were integral to that season's collection. Once these went to the shops many were produced with the front skirt made a little longer. Variations were photoed for editorials and pieces were included in the labels ad campaign that year.
    • The dress is made out of a feather light red silk organza that has a beautiful white curving print that runs over the entire dress from top to bottom. The red is a beautiful clear deep colour that flatters more skin tones.
    • The neck line is set wide across so you can wear it off of the shoulder for a bare expanse of skin to show. A wide 8" ruffle follows the entire neckline and gives the prettiest flounce all the way around you.
    • Under that the bodice skims down to a low dropped waist that is cut more generously through the middle. The dress comes with its matching silk tie belt that you can cinch in the waist as much as needed. The belt is tacked lightly in place and knotted at the moment but it could easily be untacked and used as a proper belt to tie all the way around you.
    • The skirt is set into a slightly angled seam around the waist that comes up slightly at one side. Tiny gathered pleats are set in all along the seam and that is what gives the skirt its incredible volume.
    • The skirt falls shorter at the front and longer at the back. If you were to lay this out and open the skirt it is more than a full circle around. That volume combined with the lightness of the fabric gives you incredible movement when you move.
    • This is an absolutely stunning example of his work during this time period and one of my favourite pieces I have ever had in by him.
    • It is exceptionally rare to find this dress in this runway print.
    • The bodice of the dress is lined in a silk chiffon. At some point someone added a second layer of silk chiffon that skims over the inner body to just past the inner hip to make it more opaque. I have left it as is because it does make the dress easier to wear but it could be removed very easily. It closes with a side set zipper and the tie belt is original to the dress.
    • There is no size tag present so please go by the measurements listed below.

Gorgeous 1970s Givenchy by Hubert de Givenchy Red Silk Organza Ruffle Dress w Navy Dots

I Have A Question: Gorgeous 1970s Givenchy by Hubert de Givenchy Red Silk Organza Ruffle Dress w Navy Dots

    • This is a beautiful example of the 1970s Givenchy.
    • It was made under the creative direction of Hubert de Givenchy
    • In 1952 Givenchy founded his namesake house on Rue Alfred de Vigny in Paris and quickly rose to fame as one of the grand couturiers. 16 years later for the 1968-69 season, he added a ready-to-wear line of clothing and accessories called 'Givenchy Nouvelle Boutique'. The line was initially sold in the United States exclusively through Bergdorf Goodman stores and was eventually available at other retailers as well. The line was high end and extremely well made. He launched this line to expand his customer base and it made to appeal specifically to his non-couture clients. This label continued until 1992.
    • The dress is made from a feather light dotted silk organza that is set in layered tiers that run from the top of the dress to the hem.
    • The bodice is suspended from the shoulder with straps made of the same silk. Each strap curves over the shoulder and then the first ruffle of silk starts from around the top edge of the top.
    • The neckline is cut fairly straight across on both the front and back. The ruffles continue down the entire length of the dress and each one gets wider than the one above it. There are eight ruffles in total and it is just spectacular.
    • The movement that the ruffles create as you move is fantastic.
    • The dress underneath is made from the same dotted fabric and it also follows that widening line of the dress all the way to the hem.
    • The skirt falls to the floor in a dramatic sweep that widens out as it near the floor.
    • This cut is incredibly easy to wear and flattering. I love how the silk ruffles move around you beautifully with the slightest movement.
    • There is a little silk flower attached at the base of one strap that gives the dress a little extra pop of colour for the perfect finishing touch.
    • The dress is fully lined in a red silk and closes with a back set zipper. Each tier has tiny snaps to close each of the ruffles over the zipper to hide it so that it appears that there is no opening. I see one tiny hole near the hem of one ruffle near the bottom. It otherwise appears to have been worn very little if at all. Hand finishes throughout.

1940s Jean Patou Haute Couture Strapless Black Silk Chiffon Dress w Tiered Full Skirt

I Have A Question: 1940s Jean Patou Haute Couture Strapless Black Silk Chiffon Dress w Tiered Full Skirt

    • This is an exceptionally beautiful Jean Patou silk chiffon dress that is an absolute masterpiece. It is an important and early representation of both the house of Patou and the level of Haute Couture being produced during this time period.
    • Jean Patou once said "Certain dressmakers desire to pass for an artist. I have one ambition: that is to have good taste." and this dress is the very epitome of that statement.
    • The dress is made entirely by hand and represents countless hours of dedicated hand work within the atelier. It is one of the most beautiful dresses that I have had come through my hands and the photos cannot begin to convey the detail and fine work that has gone into the creation of this piece.
    • It is constructed from a fine black silk chiffon and the bust is fitted with a boned and shaped interior to hold the dress around you. The upper edge of the bust has a little silk chiffon ruffle that folds over for a pretty detail.
    • It cinches in at the waist and the skirt flows down on a gentle curve. The waist seam curves upwards at the centre front and then curves downward towards the hip. The back seam continues curving downwards to to create a dip at the back.
    • Under this the skirt falls in a cascade of silk chiffon tiered panels. There are three in total and each one overlaps the one underneath. Hidden in between the ruffles are panels of silk organza which helps to give the dress its volume. An extra panel sits under the very lowest tier. Inside the skirt is a layer of stiffened netting.
    • The skirt follows the same curve the waist seam has with the front coming up a touch and the back sweeping out behind you.
    • We have not added anything under the skirts. There is room to go fuller if you wanted to add a crinoline underneath you can go as full as you wish.
    • A spray of pink silk flowers and black velvet leaves run down one side of the skirt.
    • This is really an extraordinary piece of early golden era Haute Couture. Finished to Haute Couture standards and entirely done by hand.
    • The bodice has a hand set silk lining and is boned. It closes with hand set back metal zipper. The skirt is lined as described above. I see some minor grubbiness around the hem of the interior lining. The tulle lining under the skirt is raw cut and there may be occasional little break near the hem here and there. There is light stress near the seams on the bodice around the waist area that indicate there was a belt or ribbon attached at some point. You could easily add a belt or ribbon and you would never see these. The flowers do not feel fresh. They are just tacked in place and they could be removed or replaced.
    • Excellent overall condition.

Spectacular 1980s Hubert de Givenchy Haute Couture Velvet Floral Cut Out Dress w Gold Metal Flowers

I Have A Question: Spectacular 1980s Hubert de Givenchy Haute Couture Velvet Floral Cut Out Dress w Gold Metal Flowers

    • This is a spectacular piece of true Haute Couture that we believe is from the early 1980s.
    • It was made under the direction of Hubert de Givenchy
    • The dress would have been completely made by hand in the Paris atelier.
    • The fabric of the dress is a beautiful silk velvet that has been hand cut into an open cut out floral pattern.
    • All of the edges of the flowers have been embroidered so that they are finished perfectly. There is an inner black silk fabric that lies under the top layer so that it is safe to wear with those open cut outs falling from the neck line to the hem.
    • The dress is strapless and there is a inner cupped and wired boned corset that holds the dress perfectly in place around you.
    • It skim over the inner corset and then is shaped to come in slightly at the waist for added shape.
    • The dress comes back out over the hips and falls to the floor. At the hem there is a little bit of a flare set all the way around with extra fabric at the back.
    • That extra panel at the back is set so that it falls slightly longer than the front for a very pretty line.
    • All of the flowers have a little gold town metal flower set in their centres. These are scattered over the dress and add the perfect finish. It is just enough added glitz but still has that very refined feel that the best of his work had.
    • The dress is fully lined in a hand set black silk. It has a built-in boned inner corset that closes with its own zipper and then the dress closes with a zipper over that. An inner waist stay that hooks to close. I see one missing gold flower near the bottom. Its proper numbered Couture tag is present.
    • There is no size tag since it is a true couture piece. Please go by the measurements below.
    • Excellent condition.

Spring 2008 Oscar De La Renta Black Embroidered Beaded Ribbon Work Floral Silk Organza Dress

I Have A Question: Spring 2008 Oscar De La Renta Black Embroidered Beaded Ribbon Work Floral Silk Organza Dress

    • The twin of this dress in an ivory walked the runway for the Spring 2008 Oscar de la Renta Bridal collection.
    • It was made under the creative direction of Oscar de la Renta
    • I had an ivory one in the shop before and know that the original price for the dress at retail was just under $20,000 USD even back in 2008 (the equivalent of just under 30k now).
    • Oscar launched his first bridal collection in October of 2002 and his wedding pieces have been worn by some of the most famous women in the world. He once said 'In the same manner that she fell in love with that man, I hope she's going to fall in love with that dress.'
    • The dress is strapless and cut to hug your curves from the bust to below the hips.
    • From there is flows into a stunning skirt that sweeps around you and trains outwards at the back.
    • Inside is an intricately constructed corset with boning and built in cups to shape and hold you and the dress in place.
    • The fabric on this one is just extraordinary. The base is an black silk. Onto this is a complex design that is made up of stiffened black silk ribbon that has been folded into flower like designs that run over the entirety of the dress. These are all placed so that they sit slightly up and off of the fabric so that it has this wonderful 3D feel to it. Interspersed around these are black thread embroidery. The black embroidered parts are a combination of knotting, to add to the dimension of the design, and flat embroidery work. Various sized black beads are then worked into this pattern to add yet another element to the design. The end result is that every inch is covered with this amazing hand work.
    • The dress has a true old world Haute Couture feel to it and it is rare to see a piece done so elaborately over every bit of the fabric. No matter how good it looks in the photos it is even better in person and on the body.
    • The dress is fully lined in a black silk. The bottom hem of the skirt is finished with an interior wide band of stiffened netting and the dress closes with a hidden set back zipper. It has a built in interior corset bodice that is cupped and boned to be shaped all the way around you. There are pads that just inside the bust and if you need extra room they could easily be removed as they are just tacked in place. The interior corset closes with its own zipper. Finished to couture standards and tons of work by hand.

Pretty Spring 2014 Emporio Armani Long Version of Runway Look 86 Crystal & Floral Print Pastel Dress

I Have A Question: Pretty Spring 2014 Emporio Armani Long Version of Runway Look 86 Crystal & Floral Print Pastel Dress

    • A shorter version of this dress walked the runway for the Spring 2014 collection for Look 86.
    • It was made under the creative direction of Giorgio Armani.
    • Vogies review said in part that "The gentleness of the clothes today was enhanced by a palette of pale blues, greys, and pinks and delicate effects like streams of crystal tracing a watery trail across a chiffon top, or patterns that suggested faded watermarks, or blurry florals. It was distinctly ladylike."
    • I prefer this longer look. It feels more balanced and the pretty fabric that it is made out of is better showcased as it falls all the way to the floor.
    • The dress is made from two layers. The inner layer is a soft pastel washed floral print made from a synthetic jersey. A fine mesh layer floats over that inner layer. The mesh acts as a diffusion that further softens the underlying floral print. Tiny glittering crystals run over the entire dress. On the bodice they are set horizontally and then they are set on an angled chevron pattern over the entire skirt from top to bottom
    • Piped straps curve over each shoulder and each is completely covered with tiny little silver toned seed beads. The front neckline is cut straight across and highlighted with a black band for contrast against the pastels below. It skims over the bodice and comes in at a seam set just under the bust.
    • The skirt falls to the floor from there gently curving outwards to the hem. It has a pretty amount of fullness that gives it lovely movement when you walk.
    • The inner floral fabric acts as the lining through the skirt and the bodice has a white crepe lining. It closes with a back set zipper. It appears to have been worn very little if at all. It was never worn and still has all its original tags attached.

I Have A Question: Dreamy Pre-Fall 2015 Oscar de la Renta Look 36 Metallic Gold Applique & Ivory Net Dress

    • The twin of this dress was the final look on the runway for the Pre-Fall 2015 collection.
    • It was made under the creative direction of Oscar de la Renta.
    • Vogue noted in their review "Pre-Fall 2015 was the last collection he (Oscar de la Renta) had a hand in designing. The house's new creative director, Peter Copping, advised the studio a bit on how to finish it after de la Renta's death in October but this wasn't his debut. Copping sat in the front row taking it all in as a bystander." They continue the review saying, "How does one review a collection like this—one that operates not as a swan song, not as an homage, but as a coda to a great career, now definitively over? On its merits, of course. And though these clothes didn't serve to turn the fashion dial in any way, they manifested the soigné de la Renta signature in spades....It spoke loudest in the collection's clutch of cocktail frocks and gowns, particularly the champagne-toned finale gowns with allover gold or silver embellishment."
    • This would make an amazing wedding dress for the bride looking for a non-traditional choice or as an alternative dress in a more extended wedding celebration.
    • The dress is made from a fine ivory net that is covered in beautiful curving gold metallic appliques that form flowers and pretty patterns over the entire surface of the dress.
    • Each individual applique is made from a pale, muted silver-gold lame fabric sewn that is embroidered all the way around its edges. The lame has a slight vertical ribbing that combines the gold and silver thread and this adds a beautiful texture. I love how they catch the light in a subtle way from every angle. In person the dress has a more metallic and gold feel then how it photographed here.
    • It sits wide across the front and the straps are set to the edge of the shoulder. The bodice curves up and over your shoulders and then at the back it falls in a V for a bit of bare skin to show. All of the edges follow the curving pattern of the applique and I love this little romantic touch.
    • There is an inner lining inside the bodice that has a sweetheart neckline shape to it and then the netting has a touch of transparency above that. It skims over you from there, past the waist to the seam that sits at the top of the hip.
    • From there the skirt explodes outwards in two tiers. Underneath each tier is a layer of tulle and then another layer of netting under that. The second layer has a stiffened edge to help hold the shape of the skirting. Inside the skirt there is a built-in underskirt that has multiple rows of that same stiffened fabric so it holds the volume that you see in the photos. I have added no extra crinolines underneath the dress to take these photos. All of the volume that you see is all built into the dress already.
    • The dress is cut shorter at the front and then the back is cut so that it trails out behind you past the floor. The lightness of the tulle and netting allows the dress to billow out around you when you walk.
    • This is dress that feels like a fairy tale come true once it is on the body.
    • The skirt is fully lined in layers of tulle and netting as described above. The bodice has an inner layer of silk and netting. The dress closes with a hidden set back zipper. It appears to have never been worn or worn very little.

Fantastic Spring 1969 Kiki Hart Multi Colour Floral & Pattern Silk & SIlk Organza Dress w Balloon Sleeves

I Have A Question: Fantastic Spring 1969 Kiki Hart Multi Colour Floral & Pattern Silk & SIlk Organza Dress w Balloon Sleeves

    • This exceptional dress is documented to Spring 1969.
    • Kiki Hart is a fantastic little vintage label. The dresses were well made and they had gorgeous lines. It is very rare to be able to pinpoint a date on one as accurately as this.
    • The dress has the prettiest floral design mixed with a design to make it feel like it is a multi-colour patchwork piece. This has been screened onto a feather light silk organza for the bodice and sleeves and a silk twill for the skirt.
    • The neckline is simple and the top skims over the bodice in an easy way to the waist where you can cinch it in with its matching tie belt in the same silk as the skirt. The areas across the top of the neckline, shoulders and upper back have been left unlined so you have a pretty touch of transparency.
    • The skirt falls to the floor from the waist and it is made from a beautifully weighted silk that holds the colour of the print beautifully. It is quite full with many yards of fabric used to make the skirt. All of that fabric means that with your slightest move the skirt floats around you beautifully.
    • The sleeves are fantastic. Each is a very full balloon sleeve made out of a single layer of the silk organza. They puff out dramatically above each cuff.
    • Besides the long rectangle of fabric tied around the waist the dress comes with an absolutely huge square of the same silk organza that the top part of the dress is made out of. All of the edges on the square are hand rolled and I believe it was meant to be folded and worn on the head. You could of course style it a million different ways or use it on its own with other things from your closet.
    • It is a stunning and an outstanding example of how great this label could be and the dress is beautifully made.
    • The bodice and skirt are lined in and ivory rayon and the sleeves are unlined.  It closes with a X zipper. Each cuff closes with back, set zipper. Each cuff snaps to close with three hidden set snaps. The original tie belt and the added large square scarf is included. The waist is cut generous and then you cinch it in with the tie belt. I see one tiny repair near the seam on the back of the arm.
    • There is no size tag present so please go by the measurements listed below

Important 1971 Pierre Cardin Couture Silk Organza Bell Sleeve Dress w Flat Pleated Bodice & Sleeves

I Have A Question: Important 1971 Pierre Cardin Couture Silk Organza Bell Sleeve Dress w Flat Pleated Bodice & Sleeves

    On Layaway
    • This is dated to 1971 by the reference photo that we have here.
    • It was made under the creative direction of Pierre Cardin
    • I had the twin of this many years ago and that one sold to a museum. It is a brilliantly important and beautiful dress and an amazing example of his work during this time period that perfectly illustrates how much of a range he had.
    • The entire dress is made out of a printed silk organza. The colours are mixed together like a painting and are done in the prettiest jewel tones.
    • The neckline is scooped and edged with a handset piping in the same fabric. The bodice skims over you to the waist where it curves in slightly for shape and then curves back out over the top of the hips.
    • The technical construction of the bodice and upper portion of the sleeve is an absolute master class. The silk has been flat pleated in vertical rows set side-by-side. They are each perfectly spaced apart and then manipulated to form the shape and structure of the dress. Given the fabric that the dress is made out of and the difficulty in working with this fabric the skill required to have this fall over the body so perfectly is not to be underestimated.
    • The shoulders are soft and the flat seam work runs down the arm to just about the elbow. Each little pleat opens out and the silk is allowed to expand outwards to create the huge bell sleeve that you see. The immense volume of the fabric that the lower portion of the sleeve has is all from the opening up of those hand sewn flat pleats which gives you an idea of how much fabric was actually used to create this dress.
    • The skirt is constructed in the same manner as the bell sleeves but on a larger scale. Its volume is all achieved by the opening out of the vertical pleats that extending down the length of the bodice. I have taken a close-ups of how they open out for you to see. The skirt falls to the floor from there and mimics the shape of the sleeve as it curves outwards to the hem.
    • In the reference photo you can see that a solid colour sash was tied around the waist and if you wanted to add more shape you could easily re-create that feel.
    • The silk organza for the fabric choice keeps the dress feather light and it is an amazing thing to see in person. It is well deserving of its museum status.
    • The dress is fully lined in pale green silk and the bell of the sleeves is a double layer of the organza. It closes with a back zipper. Hand work throughout.
    • There is no size tag present so please go by the listed measurements below
    • Excellent condition

I Have A Question: Prettiest Spring 2011 Valentino by Pierpaolo Piccioli & Maria Grazia Chiuri Pastel Coral Ruffled One Shoulder Silk Chiffon Dress

    • The twin of this gorgeous dress walked the runway for the Spring 2011 collection in a taupe colour and was Look 41 in the show.
    • It was made under the creative direction of both Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli.
    • Even in the different colour between the runway shot and the runway video you can see just how beautifully this one is on the body and how it moves.
    • Vogue said of this collection that the pieces "displayed incredible Couture like workmanship" and gushed over the exuberant use of ruffles and lace throughout the collection.
    • The dress is made out of a pinky-coral silk that is cut on the bias and flows over the body beautifully. The fabric choice keeps the dress very light in weight and gives it beautiful movement. I love it far more in this pretty colour than the pale taupe that it was shown on the runway in.
    • The entire top portion of the dress is finished in stacked ruffles made from silk organza that overlap the one underneath. On the bodice, there are also ruffles made of the same silk as the body of the dress interspersed between the organza ruffles. These swoop over you to curve up and over the single shoulder. All of the ruffles that cover the bodice have been set  on an angle to follow the same curve of the neckline and the ruffles continue all the way around you to the back. I especially love the little twirl created at the top of the shoulder that adds just a little bit of extra detail there.
    • It comes in at the waist and then the top of the hips at the sides are subtly gathered for shape. It is all very pretty and feminine.
    • The skirt falls from under there and widens out to a pretty fullness by the time it reaches the hem. The skirt has three full layers of silk and the draped to side curves upwards with an overlapped slit. So when you move a certain way you see a bit of a flash of bare leg. I love how the hem is curved to pick up on the angle of the bodice.
    • The dress is fully lined in a marching coral silk chiffon through the bodice. The skirt is made of three layers of silk and these act as the lining. The dress closes with a hidden set side zipper.

Gorgeous 1971-1972 Lanvin by Jules-Francois Crahay Floral Printed Coral Cotton Pique Backless Halter Dress

I Have A Question: Gorgeous 1971-1972 Lanvin by Jules-Francois Crahay Floral Printed Coral Cotton Pique Backless Halter Dress

    • This dress dates to either the 1971/1972 spring season.
    • It was made under the creative direction of Jules-Francois Crahay
    • Jules-Francois headed the Lanvin ateliers from 1964-1984. He has been noted as one of fashion’s 'great colorists with his colorful patterns making his 1970s Lanvin designs hugely desirable and influential.' His time at the Lanvin label is one of my personal favourites for the house.
    • He mainly used this particular type of fabric for his 1971-1972 collections and in the book on his work 'Jules Francois Crahay" by Lanvin there is a detail photo of a couture fabric noted as been most likely from the fall 1971 Couture collection and you can see it has the same weave as the fabric used for this dress.
    • The dress has a gorgeous bright colour and print combination. The cotton pique it is made of is light in weight and holds colour exceptionally well so the colours are still crisp and true. A texture runs through the fabric that adds visual interest and structure to the fabric.
    • The front halter is created by two triangles that curve up and behind the neck. Each side is set into the top of a wide 5.5" band that defines the waist. This leaves the back completely bare and exposed.
    • From there the skirt falls to the floor and it widens as it nears the hem.
    • I love how the pattern is laid out onto the dress to emphasize the different parts of it. The halter has a smaller floral pattern and then the waist has horizontal stripes. You see the same smaller floral pattern around the hips and the stripes repeat. Below that is a larger version of the flowers with a double stripe anchoring the dress around the hem to tie everything together.
    • The colour is a coral-red with pops of yellow, green and soft orange in the print.
    • The perfect finish is the top set pockets that sit on each hip.
    • The dress is fully lined through the band of the waist and the skirt is lined in an orange silk. The halter top is unlined. It closes with a low set back zipper.
    • Excellent condition

Bust: each halter covers approx 7" flat across from side to side
Seam at the top of the band: 16" flat across from side seam to side seam

Exceptional 2010s Valentino by Pierpaolo & Piccioli & Maria Grazia Chiuri Pale Green Backless Caped Sleeve Dress

I Have A Question: Exceptional 2010s Valentino by Pierpaolo & Piccioli & Maria Grazia Chiuri Pale Green Backless Caped Sleeve Dress

    • During this time period in Valentino's history there were several dresses shown in several collections that were similar to this dress. We have added examples from 2014, 2015 and 2016 to show you how these look on the body.
    • It was made under the creative direction of both Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli.
    • In the Vogue review for the 2105 collection they said: "Monastic, artistocratic, modest, and even prim have been terms applied to Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli's Valentino almost since they took over in 2009." and I feel that aptly sums up their period of Valentino.
    • The dress does not have a single unnecessary seam. It really shows how sometimes absolute minimalism is best.
    • The dress is made from a pale grass green silk crepe that has a beautiful drape. This is what lets it move so beautifully over the body once it is on.
    • It is constructed so that it drapes and skims over the body perfectly. The skirt falls to the floor in a sweeping expanse of fabric. When you stand still it looks more like a sleek column but when you move you realize how much fabric is in there as it billows out behind you.
    • The bodice drapes softly over you at the front. The silk extends over the shoulders and then it falls to the floor to create this elegant and dramatic caped feeling over your arms. The fabric has enough weight that it stays in place when you are standing still but when you move you get a billowing effect around you. The waist has some stretch so the dress is easy to fit and should work on a range of sizes.
    • At the back there is a full cut out that leaves your entire back bare. This unexpected expanse of skin when you turn around is amazing.
    • The inner part of the front bodice is lined in an orange silk chiffon. The rest of the dress is unlined. It closes with a hidden set side zipper at the back and then ties at the back of the neck. Long attached straps run down from the shoulder to attach in at the side of the waist to hold it in place. It comes with its original hang tag attached.

Iconic Spring 1985 Yves Saint Laurent Haute Couture Runway Pale Green Silk Dress w Front Plunge & Tie

I Have A Question: Iconic Spring 1985 Yves Saint Laurent Haute Couture Runway Pale Green Silk Dress w Front Plunge & Tie

    • This amazing dress is from the Spring 1985 Haute Couture collection.
    • It was made under the creative direction of Yves Saint Laurent.
    • The dress would have been made completely by hand in the Paris atelier.
    • On the runway the dress was shown in a brilliant pink. I am sure that this green colour was a special order by a Couture client.
    • Jerry Hall was photographed in one that season and we have included other references for it as well so you can see how fabulous this sits on the body
    • The dress has a very Old Hollywood / 1940s feel that I love. This is an era that Yves often touched upon in his work.
    • It is made out of a pale grass green silk crepe that drapes beautifully once on.
    • The shoulders are shaped with handmade padding inside and the sleeves are more generous through the upper part and then narrow as they reach the cuff. Each sleeve has a little handset zipper at the wrist.
    • The front comes down in a V and I love how the silk has been draped and brought over from the sides to extend into ties that sit at the base of the V at the waist. This is an extremely clever way to hide all of the closures for the dress. Underneath the tie and extending down a few inches under the waist are hidden snaps and hooks that close the dress around you all while giving the illusion that you have simply tied the dress in place.
    • The skirt is gathered in under that to fall to the floor. As it reaches the hem it widens out quite a bit so that when you move it has beautiful movement around you. The back also extends a little longer than the front hand for a sweep of extra movement behind you. Yves was a master at manipulating fabric to fall perfectly over the body.
    • The dress is not perfect but is wearable if you do not mind that it does have some small flaws. Please make sure to read the full description below carefully. This is still an outstanding example of his work during this time period.
    • The dress is fully lined in a green silk and closes with a series of snaps and hooks at the front waist. Zipper sits at each wrist. The dress has fading across the top of each shoulder and some slight fading throughout. The hem has fallen down in places and there is a touch of grubbiness and fading around the edge of the hem. There is a series of little dots near the seam at the back. The actual silk is sound and stable. The dress could potentially be dyed if you preferred not to wear it as is. Sold as found and priced accordingly.
    • There is no size tag present since it is a Couture piece. Please check the measurements below.
    • Great overall condition.

Sleeves: 29" and are 15" around the upper arm
    Slightly extended shoulders: 16.5"
Bust: 16-19" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: 13-14.5" flat across from side seam to side seam

Rare 1980s Jan Faulkner Hand Made Black Suede Cut Out Mini Dress w Pearls & Fringe

I Have A Question: Rare 1980s Jan Faulkner Hand Made Black Suede Cut Out Mini Dress w Pearls & Fringe

    • Jan Faulkner is a leather artist who began her career about 30 years ago. This is an early piece of her work from the 1980s
    • It is made out of a black suede that has a leather finish to the interior side.
    • The suede is almost certainly deerskin as it is extremely soft and supple.
    • It slips over the head and is meant to be full and easy through the body.
    • The shoulders are soft and extended to form a small cap feeling sleeve.
    • The entire dress has these little slit cut outs running over its surface. Each grouping of the cut outs have been highlighted with pearls and small hand tied fringes in the same black suede. This makes the dress slightly see-through in a subtle kind of way.
    • It drapes down and narrows in at the hem. The suede is so soft that it is like a fabric over the body.
    • The neckline is wide enough that you can wear it off one shoulder if you wished.
    • It is meant to be worn oversized and it is short enough to wear as a micro mini or tunic.
    • It slips over the head to wear with no closures.
    • Excellent condition.

Shoulders: the seams drop well down the top of the arm so there is no true defined seam for the shoulder
Bust: to 26" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: to 22" flat across from side seam to side seam
Hips: to 20" flat across from side seam to side seam
Total length: 31" from top of the shoulder to hem

Prettiest 2010s Christian Dior by John Galliano Strapless Dress w Embroidered Flowers & Ribbon

I Have A Question: Prettiest 2010s Christian Dior by John Galliano Strapless Dress w Embroidered Flowers & Ribbon

    • This is a pretty little Dior that is one that would have been made for the shops.
    • The dress is made from a black silk net that has an intricate pattern laid over it that combines black silk ribbon, black cording and embroidery work.
    • The bodice is strapless and has inner boning so that it hugs the body and stays in place.
    • Ribbon and cording wrap horizontally around the top of the bodice and then under that are panels of lattice mixed with cross thatched netting and swirling bands of cording applied to it. All of the ribbon has been applied by hand and you can see all of the tiny stitches that have been done.
    • The waist nips in and there is another silk and cord band to add definition. The skirt flares out from under that.
    • The skirt is a little masterpiece in itself. It is very full and short and the netting gives it a touch of transparency over the inner silk chiffon lining. Long vertical bands of silk are combined the same lattice pattern from the bodice and then there is additional embroidery work over top of that.
    • Embroidered flowers are placed all around the bottom of the skirt for the perfect extra touch. We shot it without any extra underskirts but there is enough fabric that you could probably add a light crinoline if you really wanted more fullness. There is already an extra layer of tulle over the silk chiffon inner skirt that helps hold the volume. These multiple layers give the dress structure so that it holds the shape around you once on.
    • It appears to have been worn very little if at all. Fully lined in a combination of black silk and silk net. It closes with a hidden back side zipper. Lightly boned through the bodice with two inner stays under the bust and another at the waist that all hook to close. Hand finishes. It appears to have been worn very little if at all.

Amazing Fall 2009 Junya Watanabe Black Padded Nylon Dress w Gold Chain Detailing

I Have A Question: Amazing Fall 2009 Junya Watanabe Black Padded Nylon Dress w Gold Chain Detailing

    • A version of this dress walked the runway for the Fall 2009 collection for Look 29.
    • It was made under the creative direction of Junya Watanabe
    • One was also shot for Vogue Korea that season. We have included all the reference photos so you can get an idea of how fantastically this will sit on the body.
    • The dress still has its original tags and was never worn.
    • The dress is wonderfully avant-garde in every way. It is like wearing a piece of soft sculpture once it is on.
    • The dresses made out of a black nylon that is feather light and then inside of the layers through the body have a light padding added. This is what gives it the incredible volume and shape that you see. We have added nothing underneath to any of these photos.
    • The sleeves have been create by a single layer of the nylon that extends out from either side of the neck line. An opening is left in each for your arm to slip through.
    • The front and back both plunge in a V and are detailed with that big chunky gold toned metal chain. It is just a phenomenal idea and gives the neckline the weight to hold it in place on you.
    • The chain curves and crosses over itself at the front and the again at the back. It scoops around to each side with one side showing on the exterior. The fabric. of the dress is all pulled and gathered into this chain and this is what creates the beautiful curving shape.
    • There is an open keyhole created at the back where the chain meets. The dress is so well-made that I think you could wear it either way around if you wanted that at the front instead.
    • The skirt is phenomenal. It is quilted and lightly padded and scoops back up and under itself at the hem to also attach back into the chain that curves around you on the inside. It is incredibly full and when I lay it out flat it makes a complete circle of fabric.
    • His work is highly collectible and this is a phenomenal example.
    • The folding back over of the layer of the skirt acts as the lining and the bodice is unlined. It slips on to wear with no closures. Its easy cut should allow it to fit a range of sizes. On a smaller frame it will just feel more oversized.
    • The dress was never worn and still has all its original tags attached as well as a small piece of repair fabric in a clear pouch attached to the tag on the inner skirt.

    I Have a Question

Incredible 1977 Halston Couture Heavy Weighted Ivory Silk Charmeuse Spiral Paneled Dress

I Have A Question: Incredible 1977 Halston Couture Heavy Weighted Ivory Silk Charmeuse Spiral Paneled Dress

    • The dress is from 1977 and was most likely a made to order custom or bridal piece.
    • It was made under the creative direction of Roy Halston
    • When researching we found the examples shared here that are almost identical to this dress but without the extra added panels that create the spiralling ruffles.
    • This is a beautiful ivory dress that showcases the minimal seaming that Halston was so famous for.
    • The dress is made of a heavier weighted silk charmeuse that is cut like the reference photos show through the body but with added panels and seams that go around and cascade down the lower skirting.
    • It is completely cut on the bias so it drapes phenomenally over the body. You simply slip it over your head and it drapes over you to accommodate the body underneath. This makes it easy to fit and very easy to wear.
    • The sleeves are long and extend out directly from the body of the dress with no seaming around the arm. Each narrows to its cuff where there is a handmade silk covered button and loop.
    • The neckline is cut wide across the neckline and has a subtle draping at the centre of the neck at both the front and back of the dress. It is a very pretty detail.
    • It glides over the body skimming over the bust, waist and hips to the floor. The vertical ruffles are set on an angle so that they cascade down to the hem. When you move these swirl around the lower part of the dress and create gorgeous movement around you.
    • Working with this fabric is incredibly difficult and it is a testament to his skill to create such a seemingly simple but complex pattern.
    • The dress is fully lined in a second layer of the same fabric which adds to the technically difficultly of the pattern and rich feel of the silk. It has no closures and slips on to wear. Each cuff has a silk covered button and loop to close.
    • There is no size tag and the bias cut will allow it to have it some give. Please go by the range of measurements listed below. The colour is slightly more ivory in person. I see some minor marks and scuffing here and there on the silk of the bottom ruffles. I shot one so that you can see. It is very minor but mentioned for accuracy. The length may come up once on because of the bias cut.
    • Excellent condition.

Spectacular Fall 2020 Gucci by Alessandro Michele Runway Look 29 Dusty Pink Silk Dress & Skirt Overlay Set

I Have A Question: Spectacular Fall 2020 Gucci by Alessandro Michele Runway Look 29 Dusty Pink Silk Dress & Skirt Overlay Set

    • The twin of this look walked the Fall 2020 runway for Look 29. On the runway it was shown with a addition partial dress worn over it but once it hit the shops it was sold on its own and that added piece was sold separately.
    • The dress was made under the creative direction of Alessandro Michele.
    • Both Kylie and Rita Ora wore one in 2021 so you can get a great idea of it on the body.
    • Vogue noted that "he took cues from “the perfection” of little girls clothes - pinafore dresses, school uniforms - and it seemed from the outfits of those little girls’ minders, nuns to nurses included." You can see that reference in this piece with its pinafore collar and front pleating but in typical Michele fashion he took that as a starting point and then upped the glamour with the added rhinestones and that phenomenal trailing over-skirt.
    • One of the things I love best about this is that because it is three pieces you have many styling options with it. You can wear all or part of it and mix and match with other things you already own.
    • The dress part of the set is a pretty dusty pink piece made out of a silk organza mix. A silk slip sits under that and I love that that inner slip is opaque enough that you could actually wear it on its own as a slip dress. With the inner slip being completely separate it also allows you to choose how daring you want to wear the dress. Over that is the spectacular over-skirt that wraps around the waist and ties at the front.
    • The dress has a little lace collar with the house double G worked into the pattern. It blouses over you at the front and comes in at the waist. The waist is cut more generously and then you use the ties on the over-skirt to cinch it in as much as you want. If you are wearing the dress on its own you can leave the waist more loose and easy or add a belt.
    • Running all the way down the front of the dress is a series of little pin-tuck pleats and then between those are wider pleats that have been gathered up in a diamond / marquis pattern and held in place by little prong set rhinestones. I love this little bit of added glitz.
    • The sleeves are full with horizontally pleated cuffs. An elaborate handkerchief ruffle sits underneath that.
    • Attached inside of the front insides of the skirt of the dress is an added panel in the same silk that hangs past the hem an extra 8.5". It is an unusual and pretty detail that is a nod to the aprons of a nurse or nanny.
    • The dress buttons to close down the back. The final button is set 22" above the back hem.
    • The over-skirt is phenomenal and takes the dress from something that can be worn in the day or evening into a full on glamorous gown. It is made from a single layer of the same silk organza and is pleated vertically all the way down to its raw cut hem. A band runs around the waist and this extends into ties. You wrap it around you and slip it through the little belt loops around the waist of the dress and tie into place. It swoops out to create a beautiful trailing feel behind you.
    • The inner acts as the lining and is fully separate from the dress. Little snaps at the shoulders hold it in place once it is on. The dress buttons down the back and then the skirt ties into place over that around the waist. The hem of the skirt is deliberately raw cut. The dress has a more pastel feel in person. All of the pieces appear to have never been worn.

Prettiest Spring 1990 Yves Saint Laurent Pale Nude Pink Silk Plunge Runway Dress w Balloon Sleeves

I Have A Question: Prettiest Spring 1990 Yves Saint Laurent Pale Nude Pink Silk Plunge Runway Dress w Balloon Sleeves

    • The twin of this dress walked the runway for the Spring 1990 collection.
    • It was Made under the creative direction of Yves Saint Laurent
    • The fabric that the dresses made out of is a stunning pale nude ballet slipper pink that has a beautiful weight to it. This and the cut is what helps hold the draping perfectly in place.
    • It has a very unusual design hidden from the outside. There is an inner bodice that one side of the outer dress hooks onto around the inner waist and then the other side drapes over that and hooks along the outer waist. This gives you coverage over the bust on the inside but still allows the bodice to feel so loosely draped around you and allows the plunge to be so low at the front while still feeling secure and covered underneath.
    • The sleeves are incredible. They are extremely full and each is lined with a pale pink silk chiffon to help hold the added volume of them. I love the way they drop over the cuff at the wrist to form that gorgeous puff at their ends.
    • The inner waist closure holds the dress in place around you and then the exterior silk drapes and skims past the waist and hips. The skirt flares out slightly as it nears the hem. The silk drapes over the waist for a bit of definition in shape, even though there is no actual seam there.
    • The inner bodice zips at the front and then the dress hooks to close around it. The rest of the dress is unlined. I see one tiny faint mark along the edge of a fold of the top, some very minor faint marks at the hem and a tiny scratch in the fabric at the back hem. All very minor but mentioned for accuracy. Hand finishes. The colour is slightly more pastel soft pink than how it shot.
    • The fit of the dress as it is currently is based almost completely on the measurements of the inner bodice piece but the outer dress is more generous. You could easily alter/add to the inner bodice to get more room if needed.

I Have A Question: c. 2006 Prada by Miuccia Prada Black Silk & Silk Chiffon Low Scooped Back Sleeveless Puff Dress

    • This is from 2006 and is a very cute little black dress that has a real bit of sexiness to it.
    • It was made under the creative direction of Miuccia Prada
    • The top portion of the neckline is made from a black silk chiffon so has a touch of transparency. The chiffon carries down the sides and then across and underneath the scoop at the back.
    • The body of the dress is made out of a black silk that helps to hold the shape. It skims past the bust, widens out over the waist and then is very full over the hips. At the front it flares out in a pretty and full A-line to the hem.
    • The back of the dress has a low open scooped cut out that leaves most of your back bare and exposed. The chiffon on either side and just under the scoop has a touch of transparency. It is so good.
    • The back of the skirt is all gathered into a curved seam under that and this gives the fabric all of the volume that you see. Those gathers combined with the way it is cut let it sit up and off the small of your back a touch and this just emphasizes all the fullness back there even more.
    • Under the skirt is a built in under skirt made out, helps to provide the volume that you see. I love how it kicks out past the hem of the dress.
    • The dress is fully lined in a black silk and closes with a side set hidden zipper. It still has its original tag attached.

I Have A Question: Spring 2015 Versus Versace Runway Look 15 Black Stretch Bandaid Dress w Gold Pins & Cut Out

    • The twin of this dress walked the runway for Look 15 for the Spring 2015 collection.
    • It was made under the creative direction of Donatella Versace.
    • The dress was worn by Anja Rubik on the runway and it was wait listed worldwide and sold out everywhere.
    • The dress is made out of a black stretch fabric so once it is on it molds and conforms to your body. You can see this on the runway shots. It is very sexy.
    • It has a single long sleeve and the shoulder on that side is soft. The other shoulder is left bare and exposed.
    • It skims over the bust and comes in at the waist. Starting just under the bust on one side is a cut out at the waist that is held together with three of the iconic Versace pins. These are of course a nod to be famous Versace safety pin dress. That open cut out continues horizontally all the way around to the back to leave a bare strip of skin showing around the waist and back.
    • From there it hugs the hips and narrows back in above the knee.
    • The dress is fully lined and slips on to wear with a hidden set side zipper. It was never worn and still has its original tag attached. The dress looks very tiny off. The body is meant to stretch. I've added the comfortable range of measurements below.

2010s Giambattista Valli Black Dress Stretch Sleeveless Dress w Front Metallic Thread Wool Inset

I Have A Question: 2010s Giambattista Valli Black Dress Stretch Sleeveless Dress w Front Metallic Thread Wool Inset

    • This is a more modern piece by Giambattista Valli that I believe is from circa 2015.
    • It was made under the creative direction of Giambattista Valli
    • This is a fantastic day dress that is appropriate for the office but also can be worn to dinner or a cocktail events.
    • The base of the dress is made from a stretch mix of silk and wool in a black that has a touch of charcoal feel to it. The stretch allows it to really form around the body but still feel extremely comfortable to wear.
    • It is sleeveless and skims over the bodice. The waist nips in and is highlighted with a wide black grosgrain ribbon. From there it curves back over the hips.
    • The skirt is cut in a chic pencil shape. A back vent lets you walk easily when wearing it.
    • An attached panel runs down the front of the dress. This is made out of a wool that has a nubby thatched texture to it with little silver metallic lurex threads run through the fabric. It is subtle but really elevates the dress and is a beautiful added detail.
    • The dress is fully lined in a black silk and closes with a black hidden set zipper.

Amazing 1950s Mde. Etoile Ivory Silk Heavily Hand Beaded Demi Couture Dress w Scoop Back

I Have A Question: Amazing 1950s Mde. Etoile Ivory Silk Heavily Hand Beaded Demi Couture Dress w Scoop Back

    • A gorgeous one-of-a-kind dress from a small Atelier in New York from the 1950s.
    • The dress is made to Demi-couture levels with extensive hand work.
    • An ivory silk base has been heavily hand beaded to cover the entire dress.
    • At the front the dress has a scooped neck. I love how the edge of neck line follows the shape and pattern of the embellishments. At the back it scoops low so you get a bare expanse of skin showing. This is that classic old Hollywood kind of shape that stars like Marilyn Monroe would wear.
    • The waist nips from there and then the dress curves back out and over the hips.
    • From the hips it falls and narrows slightly in to the hem. The skirt has a slit up the back so you can walk and move comfortably. There is some extra fabric turned under the hem if you need more length. The fabric that is turned under is not beaded and it could be let down to gain another 3.5" to form a pretty edge.
    • The dress is fully lined in a hand set ivory silk with hand stitching throughout. It closes with a back zipper. There is slight wear under each arm and very minor discolouration along the inner edge of the neckline. Please see the photos after the label shot.
    • There is no size tag present so please go by the measurements listed below.
    • Excellent  condition

Bust: 16-18" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: to 14" flat across from side seam to side seam

Incredible 2022 Alexander McQueen by Sarah Burton Ivory Silk Chiffon Dress w Heavily Detailed Bodoice

I Have A Question: Incredible 2022 Alexander McQueen by Sarah Burton Ivory Silk Chiffon Dress w Heavily Detailed Bodoice

    • This is a beautiful dress that was made for the shops in 2022.
    • The dress was made under the creative direction of Sarah Burton.
    • It is made from layers of an off-white ivory silk chiffon that float beautifully over the body. It is very loose and easy as it falls over you making it is easy to wear and very flattering.
    • Tiny silk straps curve up and over your shoulder to connect at the sides of the bodice and back. I think with this one you also have the option that you could tuck the straps in and wear this as a strapless dress.
    • The bodice is cupped and inside there are molded and wired inner cups attached to hold the shape and give you structure and support.
    • Onto that is a beautiful and elaborate design that is made out of a braided silver thread, silver tube, beads, and prong set rhinestones and beads in various sizes. These are set over the bodice to form a design of leafs and vines that swirl across you. It is quite stunning.
    • The silk chiffon falls under there and flows all the way down to the floor. The dress is in its original length and the movement the silk chiffon has is incredible. The fabric is so light that when you move it swirls around you. There are extra panels of the silk chiffon that are attached along the upper edge of the back and around slightly to the sides. These fall over the inner dress to the floor to give a beautiful caped feel to the back.
    • The dress is fully lined in an ivory silk and closes with a back hidden set zipper. There is a built-in inner corset that is boned and cupped. I see a tiny repair near the hem of the skirt and there is a little bit of very minor pulling on the back silk chiffon panel where it has caught on the applique work at some point. Please see the photo after the label shot. The dress was never worn and is in its original length. It has its original hang tag attached.

Exquisite 1965-66 James Galanos Couture Heavily Hand Beaded & Sequined Silk Print Dress

I Have A Question: Exquisite 1965-66 James Galanos Couture Heavily Hand Beaded & Sequined Silk Print Dress

    On Layaway
    • This dress is dated to its exact year by the hand written Bergdorf's tag inside that reads either 1965 or 1966.
    • It was made under the creative direction of James Galanos.
    • James Galanos launched his first label called Galanos Originals in 1951 at the age of 27. By 1954 he had won a Coty award and the Neiman Marcus award.
    • His custom pieces were made close to couture standards and with a level of craftsmanship that was on par with the French couturiers. He was truly one of the great American designers and his work is held in all of the major museums around the world.
    • This is a dress that is extremely well made with a very high level of construction techniques.
    • The dresses made out of several layers of silk chiffon. There is a top chiffon layer that floats over and printed on that has a hidden silk layer under that and then a final inner deep pink silk lining. It's just amazing to see all of the extra stuff and layers. And this doesn't even take into account the silk used to make the inner corset that holds everything in place.
    • The top layer is completely covered with hundreds of thousands of hand placed beads and sequins in various shapes and sizes. These swirl over the entire dress and it is just amazing to see in person. This is the level of craft that you only see in vintage now.
    • The dress is suspended from two straps that are heavily detailed with the bead and sequin work. The front neck line is slightly scooped at its centre and then the back scoops a little lower.
    • There is a built-in inner lightly boned corset that shapes the bust. The waist comes in under that and then it skims out and over the hips.
    • The skirt falls from there to the floor and widens out a touch as it near the hem. Having it completely covered with all those hand placed beads and sequins is just phenomenal to see.
    • I love the deep burgundy tones mixed with jewel tones on the underlying pattern of the silk.
    • The dress has a built in silk covered corset and and is lined as described above. The corset hooks to close around the waist, and then the inner dress zips over that and the outer layer also has its own zipper. A waist stay hooks to close inside. There may be the occasional missing sequin and some are missing on the tops of the straps. There is a touch of fading to the pink lining along the inside edge of the bodice. It is very minor. Hand finishes throughout.
    • No size tag is present so please go by the measurements listed below

I Have A Question: Gorgeous Fall 2005 Original Valentino Runway Look 67 Deep Oxblood Silk Dress w Tiered Ruffle Skirting

    • The twin of this dress walk the runway for the Fall 2005 show for Look 67 and was worn by supermodel Carmen Kass.
    • It was made under the creative direction of the original Mr. Valentino.
    • Vogue said of the collection that "Valentino's couture touch brought exquisite workmanship to filmy lace blouses and brocade jackets as well as evening gowns that captured the seasons passion for Victorian and Edwardian effects." They went on to mention the feel of this gown specifically saying "courtly evening gowns had Tissot trains, composed of tiers of ruffles."
    • On the runway they showed the dress with a silk sash around the waist in an olive green. Apparently this was a styling decision only and the dress was not sold with it once it became available.
    • The dress is absolutely spectacular and showcases what made these original Valentino pieces so special under Mr. Valentino's direction.
    • Tiny net straps in the same colour curve up and over each shoulder. Each one has been heavily detailed with hand set beads and sequins in a matching deep blood red burgundy. It is a subtle bit of added glitz that works perfectly with the dress.
    • The dress curves across you at the front and is fitted around the bust. Tiny little gathers are done along the inset seam along each side of the bodice At the back it is scooped so your upper back is left bare and exposed.
    • From there it comes in at the waist and then curves back out to glide over the hips. At the front it falls in a more smooth column and then widens out quite a bit for the lower skirt. A wide 10" ruffle  finishes the front hem. Inside of that ruffle, you can feel that there are layers of netting that help hold its volume in shape to create the width you see from the front of the lower skirts.
    • At the back is where all of the full on drama of the dress begins. Four very full ruffled panels are set stacked horizontally, one on top of each other, with each one below the one above becoming wider and fuller. Each of the tiers of silk have more netting inside so they hold their shape and volume fantastically. You can see how the entire lower skirt at the back widens out substantially and trails behind you in a swooping train. It is absolutely phenomenal.
    • The choice of the silk that he's used as some structure and helps to hold all the shape that you see. The colour is a deep ox blood burgundy that is just phenomenal.
    • This is a truly spectacular dress and one that you will not see come around very often if ever again. These would have been special ordered by clients through the boutiques.
    • The dress is fully lined in a matching silk and closes with a back hidden set zipper. The ruffles around the lower skirts all have stiffened netting hidden inside them to help hold the shape and volume that you see. More stiffened netting around the inner hem and beautifully made. It appears to have been worn very little if at all.

Rare Spring 1998 Gianni Versace Runway Silver Sequin & Thread Detail Pink & Black Dress

I Have A Question: Rare Spring 1998 Gianni Versace Runway Silver Sequin & Thread Detail Pink & Black Dress

    • The twin of this dress walked the runway for the Spring 1998 Versace show.
    • It was made under the creative direction of Gianni Versace.
    • This is a rare and early documented example of his work.
    • The dresses made of two layers of silk. There is an inner silk layer that is a bright vivid pink and then this is topped with a black silk chiffon that has a touch of transparency.
    • Onto the top black layer is an elaborate pattern made of silver metallic thread and little tiny silver sequins. This adds a subtle sparkle over the entire dress.
    • Two triangles sit at the front bust and they are brought inwards at the neck leaving an open keyhole underneath. The straps circle around both sides of your neck and then meet at the back. They curve outwards to meet the sides of a full open scoop that leaves most of your back bare and exposed.
    • It skims over the waist and hips from there and I love the lingerie effect created by having the black float over the inner pink layer.
    • The inner pink silk layer acts as the lining. The neck of the dress slips over the head and then the dress closes with a hidden set side zipper. When the dress is off the body the pink under-layer appears to extend past the bottom by a couple of inches but it is bias cut so once on it lines up as shown in the photos here.
