Prettiest 1930s Black & White Floral Print Bias Cut Silk Elaborate Ruffle Shoulder Dress

This is one of a dozen dresses from a single owner collection of beautiful 1930s dresses and I am very pleased to have this small capsule for you. Her collection was lovingly sourced over decades and she has decided that it is time let them back out into the world for others to enjoy. Outstanding designs from this era are increasingly hard to find. Her collection represents some of the best of the era that I have seen in a very long time. Most are in excellent condition and the few included in the capsule that do have some flaws are such outstanding designs that I feel there is still room for someone to love them and wear them as they are, or perhaps to put in the additional work to repair them. This is just a tiny sampling of her overall collection and I hope to have another series of these capsules in the future. Enjoy this first drop.

This pretty little dress is made from a feather light bias cut silk that has the slightest bit of texture running through the fabric. The bias cut makes it drape and move unbelievably beautifully once on the body. The pattern is a black and white floral print and some of the white flowers have a more ivory detailing that gives the look of being painted onto the silk. It's cut loose and easy through the bodice with this pretty round curving seam that sits just under the bust.  The waist is seamed but cut to be more loose and open. You could add a belt or ribbon for more definition if you wanted a more defined silhouette. The skirt falls from there and it widens out quite a bit as it nears the hem. The lightness of the fabric combined with the bias cut give the skirt incredible movement once on. It will move and flow around you with your slightest movement. The back dips low for a bare expanse of skin and it closes with a series of silk covered buttons. The straps have this incredible ruffled finish to them with round cut outs of the silk hand applied on top of each other to cover the straps. Each little bit of silk is finished around the edge by hand. It's an incredible and pretty dress. Excellent condition with a minor note below.

Unlined and closes down the back with a series of silk covered buttons and loops. Hand finished throughout with pinked inner seams. There is perhaps a slight darkening to the white under the arms but it just looks more in line with the deeper ivory parts of the pattern. I'm being pretty picky. For a dress almost 100 years old it's in remarkable condition. This one is at its original shop label present was made in France. The bias cut should allow it to fit a range of sizes.

Please review all measurements carefully. More often than not, vintage garments do not fit any size category exactly. If in doubt, measure a garment of your own that fits and is a similar cut and compare it's measurements to the listed measurements below.
