This is an absolutely incredible dress and once on the body it flows and drapes into place beautifully. It is from the 1970 collection and is documented in the "A To Biba" where a photo of a model wearing its twin was captured at the press launch party for the Biba make-up range on Kensington High Street in April of 1970. This is everything you look for in Biba dress, from the signature black moss crepe fabric that is so representative of this era, to the incredible flowing bias cut, to those amazing Bishop cut sleeves. Those sleeves are the star of the show on this dress and they are incredible. This is classic Biba at its best and each billows out in a huge pouf of fabric above the elastic cuff. Above that they narrow to a slimmer fit over the upper arm which gives them balance and mimics the flared cut of the bodice and skirt. The front bodice is fitted and plunges quite low and it is gathered with seaming just under the bust. From there the black moss crepe is cut on the bias and flows from just under the bust to the floor in a beautiful sweeping column that widens as it nears the ground. The cut is supermodel long so it adds height to the girl wearing it. This is Biba at her best and even now feels incredibly relevant and modern. Excellent condition

This is a really beautiful and romantic, full length maxi dress, designed by Hanae Mori. The colors on this one are especially wonderful and give it a fairy tale, ethereal feel. A soft lavender backdrop has pretty little bouquets of flowers screened onto the almost weightless chiffon. This combination of color and fabric is magical. It is cut with an elastic through the waist which makes it very easy and comfortable to wear. To cover that and to give it even more shape if you wish, it has a long matching fabric tie belt that wraps around the waist. The bodice has a loose and easy cut and each sleeve is quite full above the cuffed wrist. The skirt flows to the floor in a cascade of chiffon. The lightness of the fabric here allows for lots of floating and swirling movement around you when you walk. I can imagine this with sandals for day and then a stacked heel at night. I am such a huge Hanae Mori fan and I just love this little dress by her. It really feels fresh and modern and it is easy to imagine slipping it on and going out the same day it arrives at your door. Excellent condition.
The dress is fully lined through the bodice and skirt in a very light pastel lavender silky crepe chiffon and closes at the back with hidden hook & eye above the elastic at the waist. It has its original fabric belt. Each cuff has a fabric covered snap to close. The elastic waist allows for a bit greater range of size.

This black pleated full length cape is a wonderful example of Giorgio di Sant'Angelo's work and aesthetic. He first hit the fashion map when Diana Vreeland asked him to design clothing for a desert location shoot that starred Verushka in 1968. That shoot is now legendary - it created such a buzz that his clothing was instantly sought out by all the most fashionable women on the planet. In 1976 he dropped the "di" from his name giving us a post-1976 date for this. His pieces were sexy, bold and had a hippie flair to them that few other designers could match at the time. I love his work. This spectacular cape is constructed from an unusual perma-pleat fabric that is lightweight but gives it some structure and keeps the slim line of the piece until you need to move around in it. It falls all the way to the floor in a full length swoop of fabric. The collar is gathered and it has ties running through it that allow you to loose or tighten that ruffle around the collar as you wish. This lets you have it so that it sits wide at the shoulder or tightly framing your neck. The lightness of the fabric gives it a billowing effect when you move and walk that is stupendous. A really lovely and romantic cape that will top just about anything. Excellent condition.
The cape is unlined and ties at the neck. It will fit any size
Length: 57-60" from neck to hem depending on how you tie the neck

This is a beautiful and romantic bias cut black chiffon, full length cape by Adolfo. Adolfo often did custom work for his clients who ranged form clients ranged from the Duchess of Windsor to Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Gloria Vanderbilt and Nancy Reagan. He won a Coty Award in 1969 for his head to toe women’s design. I love his work and though you most often see his more conservative suits here and there these days, he was actually quite flamboyant in his work during the early days. This spectacular cape is constructed from a lightweight black chiffon that falls all the way to the floor in a full length swoop of feather light fabric. At the neck are very long, attached ties in the same fabric and the neck is cut so that it sits wide at the shoulder instead of gathered up around the neck. The lightness of the silk gives it a billowing effect when you move and walk that is stupendous. A really lovely and romantic cape that will top just about anything. Excellent condition.

This beautiful dress was created by Ceil Chapman who is often referred to as Marilyn Monroe's favorite designer. It is so beautiful in person and the level of detail put into the construction is wonderful. The dress is constructed from a blue silk crepe that has a touch of stretch to it which allows the dress to move and mold itself the the wearer. The silk is then covered in swirls of blue glass tube beads mixed with iridescent blue sequins that trail over and on top of the beads. Once on, the dress seems to be sculpted onto the body. The skirt hugs the hips and is cut close to the leg with a back vent to allow you to walk. The waist nips in to create that sexy hourglass silhouette. The bodice has an inner boning and a front tulle detail to bring all the attention to the bust. The shoulders, upper back and arms are left exposed. The workmanship is exquisite and it is absolutely stunning and provocative. What I love most is that is is very close in design to the dress that was worn by Marilyn to performing for the U.S troops in Korea, February 1954 (click here to see more on our blog). Excellent condition.
Fully lined in matching blue silky rayon. Boned through the front and back and the interior has hand finishes. It closes with a painted metal side zipper. Note that the color has a slight purple undertone that does not quite come across in the photos. Museum quality

Roland Klein trained under Christian Dior, and was Karl Lagerfeld's assistant at the atelier of Jean Patou. In 1965, Klein relocated to London from Paris, and joined the company of Marcel Fenez where he eventually became the head designer and was given his own label. He produced pieces under his name from 1973 till the end of 1978 when he left to open his own design house. So this gives us the perfect little window of time to date this piece. There were a few label changes during this time and if I had to narrow it down even further I would say this piece was made sometime between 1975 and 1978. It is fantastically ahead of its time and is a very beautiful dress. It has a bit of a Grecian feel to it and I love the mix of patterns. The long asymmetrical hem with its draped and trailing sides is quite beautiful. The deep plunging back and front are both feminine and sexy. A spectacular and very well made piece. Excellent condition

I Have a Question
I love the graphic black and white, oversized check that has an almost digital feel to it and covers the entire surface of the dress. It is completely cut on the bias and skims and drapes over the body from the draped neckline to the tips of the skirt. The bottom skirt in set into the body of the dress in a series of seams that feels like the same technique used for dresses constructed in the 1920s. It flows and skims over the body to the skirt that is all angles and points in different lengths. A tiny, tightly spaced row of buttons runs down the side of the dress. This allows you to get into it and also adds that signature touch that he used on many of his dresses. It is very light and stunning on. It almost feels like you are wearing nothing at all the fabric is so light and fine. Added to this is the fact that the back is left completely bare and its hard not to fall in love with this dress. During his tenure at Dior he arguably produced some of the most amazing bias cut gowns in the houses history. His work, especially the bias cut pieces, have a feeling of the decadence and abandonment of the twenties and thirties and they are beautifully cut. They marry the old Hollywood feel of those past eras with the minimalist spirit of the nineties and the results are stunning. This is a beautiful example of his work during this time and it is beautiful. Excellent condition
Made of two layers of bias cut silk chiffon, the outer printed layer and then a white inner layer. It slips on to wear and closes with the series of buttons and fabric loops that run down the side. It appears to have never been worn. The bias cut will allow for a variety of sizes to wear the dress. Note the length does come up when on depending on the size of the girl underneath since it is cut on the bias.

This Bill Blass dress is fabulous. It is the kind of dress that will stop people in their tracks. This is not from his main line and I rarely pick up this particular version of his label but I have to say that I was very impressed with this dress. The design is on point and the construction is very good. It would have definitely been the upper end of this line and the fact that it basically looks to have never been worn and is as crisp and fresh as when it was made certainly doesn't hurt. It is cut in a sleek column suspended from the tiniest of straps. You could tuck these in and wear this as a strapless piece if you wished. That huge black and white diamond pattern is created by squares of fabric placed piece by piece so the pattern is made. The yellow top stitch bow that sits on the top of the bust is the highlight above that great graphic feel. That pop of yellow is fantastic and the tops stitching gives it that perfect Blass touch. Excellent condition

John Kloss for Circa were originally intended as lingerie pieces the vast majority are too thin or too sheer to wear as proper dresses now. This one walks the edge, perhaps not to be worn on its own out in public with its open sides, but as a layering piece. It def has a touch of sheerness in a strong light but you could use it as a cover up, be daring and wear nothing but a slip under it, or layer it over just about anything. I love his work. He deliberately chose good weight and quality nylons that held the color well and would drape exactly as he wished. This black tabard cut gown is simple in feel but big on style. It slips over the head with an elastic drawing in and adding shape under the bist and to the waist at both the back and front. It is left completely open on either side with just a simple tie. Quite amazing and daring. Excellent condition

The La Mendola label is highly collectible and sought after - when the duo behind the label where designing in Rome it was girls like Elizabeth Taylor and Rita Hayworth that were buying and even wait listing for pieces as they were produced. The Italian based shop closed in 1974 giving us a date for this prior to that. The silk jersey used to make this dress is the best possible grade so feels amazing on. The design is beautifully vibrant and bright with a mix of teal, green and lavender. These travel and wear exceptionally well, exactly what a jet set girl of that time, or now, requires. It has a simple and sleek cut with an undefined waist, high neck and long sleeves. I love how it covers the body completely and how the fabric drapes and skims over your curves so it is still sexy. A matching tie belt of the same fabric allows you to cinch in the waist for more shape. A row of tightly spaced, hand covered silk buttons up the back of the neck are the perfect finishing detail. It is an amazing piece. Excellent condition

George Stavropoulos was an amazing designer. He was known especially for his evening wear and his hallmarks were draping, floating panels and bias cut dresses. He disliked overt ornamentation and instead focused on cut and his fabric choices to convey the beauty of each piece he designed. This is a wonderful example of his work and the construction is on par with demi-couture. It is also a beautiful and romantic shade of pink that I love and is very flattering on most skin tones. The interior of the dress that lies hidden under the lace and silk chiffon is a strapless shift that has been perfectly constructed from a pink silk crepe. This inner dress hugs the body and has a corseted bodice that keeps the dress in place and then from there it skims over the body in a column to the floor. Over this interior structure is three full layers of a soft pink silk chiffon. It is virtually weightless and so fine that it adds no unneeded bulk as it flows under the top layer of lace. It is cut with extra volume at the back and set between where the lace exterior meets so that it peeks out as a design detail down the entire center back and then flows into a small train behind you. The very top layer of the gown is finished in a beautiful pink lace with all of the edges done to showcase the scalloped design of the pattern. It is very beautiful in person and better then how it has photographed. Excellent condition
Fully lined in pink silk crepe. The interior lining is constructed so it is like a full finished dress inside and out, over which the chiffon and lace layers lie. It closes with a back painted metal zipper. Hand finished throughout. The bodice has interior boning through the lining and smaller, fabric encased boning spaced around the bust area for a little additional support. A small repair or two to the lace here and there. The pink is a more pastel, prettier pink in person.

Philip Hulitar only designed under his own label for a short time period - 1949-1964. Prior to that he was the in-house custom designer for Bergdorf's. His pieces are very beautiful and have an air of sophistication about them. Finding examples is hard due to the short period his label existed. This dress with its unique matching skirted 1/2 jacket is absolutely incredible. The fabric is exquisite - a fine silk chiffon in a vivid clear green that has a spray of pink and coral flowers screened onto the bodice and skirt. The bodice is quite wonderful with its meticulously constructed flat pleats. - a signature design element of Hulitar. At the waist is a silk satin bow in pink. The jacket that sits over the dress is made of that same bright pink silk satin. It slips over the dress with little cap sleeves and and long side panels that go the hem and end in a fine fringe. At the back it drapes inwards to a fringing detail. The lining is a green silk chiffon that perfectly picks up on the dress and is so well made it is almost reversible. The skirt is cut long and lean with weighted discs set inside in the couture manner at the back hem to add weight and ensure that it falls perfectly. The bodice has a full built in corset that is lightly boned. All the draping and pleating have been done by hand and the work is on par with demi-couture. Excellent condition
Fully lined in a green tissue silk. The bodice has a full built in, boned corset. The hem of the dress is weighted. It closes with a back, hand-set painted metal zipper. The half jacket is made of a pink silk satin that matches the bow on the waist and is lined in green silk chiffon

I think this is the most coveted of all the Bill Tice designs. A version of it sits in the closet of countless celebrities (Lady Gaga recently wore a version, as have girls like Rachel Zoe & Nicole Richie) and it is one of those fail safe pieces that you know is going to work every time you put it on. Every time I get one in they fly out the door. It is insanely sexy with a halter style front that plunges to the waist and a back that is left completely open and bare. It is made of a black liquid jersey that feels amazing on and has the added bonus of traveling very well. It is the kind of piece you can throw into your suit case and slip on with either flats or heels when you reach some far off destination and be perfectly ready to go. The front has a high slit that shows when you walk or sit and I love the signature wide top stitch gold and black belt at the waist. It is attached all around the back and then the front ties to cinch you in exactly to where you want. Excellent condition.

This dress is made from a combination of a inky black velvet through the body with a gold flowers in a black silk chiffon adoring the sleeves and skirt. The floral design is made from a combination of gold lame eyelash thread and curving lines of velvet fused onto the silk. At the from of the dipped neckline sits a pretty flower made from velvet, feathers and beads. The lines through the body are long and lean and have an almost flapper quality to the cut. The sleeves are cut full and billow above each cuff. The skirt is made of the same fabric as the sleeves and falls in a sleek column with a touch of fullness. Both the sleeves and skirt are left unlined so you get a glimpse of the body underneath. Excellent condition

The near twin of this dress is held at The Metropolitan Museum which enables us to exactly date it. The difference between the one in The Met's collection and this one is that this one is opaque top to bottom so even though it would have originally been intended as lingerie piece you can easily wear it out as a dress now. I also have found a photo of the exact twin of the dress from the December issue of Vogue that year.
The vast majority of John Kloss pieces that one finds are usually too thin or too sheer to wear as proper dress, but every once in a while you find a fabulous little exceptions like this one. John Kloss was a contemporary of Ossie Clark and I love how you can see that same British sense of sexiness in his pieces. This gown has a simple but sexy cut that really shows off the body once on. The halter cut bodice has an almost scandalous plunging front that goes right to the waist. At the point where the waist and the halter join is an elaborately beaded pair of swan set so they highlight the plunge and add a beautiful detail. At the back it is cut so you have an almost slight cowled effect and the entire back is left bare above that. From there it flows to the floor in a column of bias cut nylon jersey. A slit up the front shows miles of leg. Kloss was genius at choosing extremely high quality nylons that held the color well and would drape exactly as he wished. Excellent condition.
Unlined and slips on to wear and ties at the back neck. Tagged a vintage Kloss for Circa Small but please check measurements. The fabric does have some stretch so the size range is slightly more variable then usual.

Halston is one of those rare labels that the more time that goes by it actually feels more relevant. It is easy to think of this piece as both a treasured collectible and a closet staple - knowing that every time you slip it on you will look and feel amazing. It has his signature simplicity and masterful draping along with a touch of Studio 54 sexiness thrown in. The dress is made from a deep red, light wool jersey and simply slips on and you hook it into place at the waist. The front crosses over itself with a mid-level plunge that the placement of the fabric and interior hooks hold in place so that you feel safe wearing it. It is cut with the absolute minimal seaming - you can clearly see this especially at the sleeves and how there are no seams to attached them to the bodice, rather they just extend from the same fabric. It is cut on the bias, then wraps and drapes to follow your every curve. The skirt is lean and again it is the crossing over of the fabric that gives you the coverage to wear it and feel secure. The wrapped styling allows the entire front to look like you could step out of the dress at any moment but it is designed to stay in place. The waist is elastic so very comfortable and you could really cinch it in further with a belt. This is signature Halston Studio 54 sexiness but in a dress that you can wear day or night. Excellent condition.
Unlined and wraps to close with flat hooks inside and out at the waist to hold it in place. The waist could be adjusted approx 1" up or down by moving the hooks and has elastic running through it. The wool jersey is a very comfortable and easy weight and feels fabulous on.

The DVF wrap dress came into being in 1973 and has been a staple since. Examples are held at The Met and thier note on it state: "Diane von Furstenberg introduced her signature wrap dress in 1973. The simple style was affordable and adaptable, combining the versatility of sportswear with the chic of a flattering dress. Easy to wear, the design became a fashion phenomenon and a large selection of graphic prints kept the style fresh and in demand. Von Furstenberg wrote: “I was sure there was a need for simple little sexy dresses that made women feel like women.”
This recent Diane Von Furstenberg dress is wonderful. It is made form a muted, dark red wool. The skinny fit top wraps to close in her signature style with a plunging neck that has a collar so feel a little safer then some of her cuts and this is balanced by long, skinny sleeves. The skirt is cut sleek and short. Wearing a Diane Von Furstenberg design is appropriate for almost any event or occasion that may arise. Which is probably exactly why they are one of the must haves in any girl's closet. Excellent over all condition with a small note below
Unlined with two long attached ties that wrap to close. The wool jersey fabric has some stretch so is incredibly comfortable to wear. Pockets at the hip. I see two tiny pinholes on the edge of the front collar. They look stable and held up to cleaning without getting worse. The fabric has some stretch and it wraps so you can easily add 1-2" to any of the listed measurements up or down. Will comfortable fit a modern 6-8

I Have a Question
This is an exceptional dress. It is a stunning example of his work during this time period and these metallic pieces are among my favorites by him. The base fabric is a red silk chiffon and it is lined in a red silk organza. Woven onto and through the silk is a gold lurex thread that gives the fabric a two dimensional pop and makes it gleam and glitter in the light. That gold cover the dress with the red silk that is left forming the pattern you see. I love how each bit of red has a slightly different weave of gold around its border so you get a different effect and each is highlighted even more. The neckline is a cut into a low V that plunges to the high set waistline and the bodice is balanced beautifully by those spectacular sleeves. Each sleeve is cut so that it widens as it reaches its hem and then it is edged in a wide border of silk ribbon and split up one side. That same ribbon edging goes around the neckline and circles the waist in a double row. At the front center of the waist is a fabulous embellishment of coiled red and gold fabric. This all tops the skirt that is set into the waist with a series of soft folds. It flows to the floor from there, widening as it nears the floor with yards and yards of fabric. It is a beautiful and dramatic piece of vintage couture. Excellent condition.
Fully lined in a red silk organza with the sleeves left unlined. It closes with a back painted metal & nylon zipper and hook & eye at the neck. Hand finished. Far more a true gold in person. Unlabelled

This is a seriously sexy, dramatic strapless dress that was made to hug and create curves whether a girl has then or not. It is all fitted and shaped to give you that Barbie Doll body with the bust and hips exaggerated in just the right way. The actual dress is a strapless little number that is cut above the knee and has a black cotton lace set over a nude base. Between the lace and the inner nude fabric is a layer of the same dotted tulle that makes up that dramatic skirting. This gives the lace an very interesting texture and depth. The sweetheart neckline tops the fitted silhouette of the dress. Circling the hip is a curving overlay of dotted tulle over two other tulle layers. These curve around and down and give the dress the suggestion of a full fifties skirt. Totally '80s and fabulous. Excellent condition
The dress is fully lined in a nude silky rayon and closes with a back metal and nylon zipper.

This is a cute and sexy little dress that combines a beautiful silk with a fun, multi-color dot pattern. It is from the D&G label which no longer exists. The cut is classic D&G with a fitted, curving cut that follows the body and is very flattering. The bodice has a full built in corset with cups that keep the dress in place. Over this, the silk skims and drapes, down and around the body. There is a ruffled detail that circles the sweetheart neckline and that ruffle then extends down from one side, curves over the waist, and then runs down one hip. The skirt is cut to come up slightly at the spot where the ruffle ends for a little extra leg. At the back is one of their signature, large chunky zippers and the silk is all set to drape inward towards that. Signature, adjustable, lingerie straps sit at the shoulder and can be removed to make it a strapless dress. It is fabulous on and I love the colorful dots. Excellent condition
The dress is unlined and closes with a back zipper. There is a full boned bra/net corset inside the bust area. Tagged a 42

I decided to re-post this Hanae Mori dress so it gets the fresh eyes on it that it deserves. It is very beautiful and striking with its stark color palette of black and white combined with a royal purple. The graphics that cover the surface suggest script and the bold mix of graphics and the strong color immediately catch the eye. To balance the color the dress is kept simple and sleek. It is constructed from a fine silk through the body and it is fully lined in a white silk so feels wonderful once on. The cut of the dress is a sleek column that is suspended from purple braided straps that curve over each shoulder. It is cut loose and easy through the body and just skims over the torso with just the slightest of curves to suggest the body underneath. A slit runs op one leg for a flash of skin. It also has a matching silk chiffon scarf with the same graduated purple print that covers the bodice of the dress. Excellent condition.
Closes with a painted metal zipper at the side. Appears to have never been worn. Tagged a vintage 8 but please check actual listed measurements.

This really spectacular set by Pauline Trigere is constructed from layers of silk chiffon that combine two tones of green with a exterior purple layer. The silk used is almost weightless and it feels like wisps of air once on. The skirt flows to the floor and is constructed so that there is an inner layer of the darkest green that is seamed so it closes around the hips and then three layers of silk over this that attached at the waist only. Since only the very inner layer is closed and only closed around the hip, you get a high, sexy, side slit down one side. The top is cut in a simple tank that has tiny straps suspending it from the shoulders. I love that for those straps she used the same three colors of the silk used for the two pieces. The top uses the same layering technique of the three colors that the skirt has. Each colored silk layer is set on top of each other and set so you can clearly see them stacked on top of each other along the neckline. The matching, long oblong scarf, is also made of those same three shades of color and can be wrapped around the waist, neck or used as a head piece or evening turban. It is very beautiful. Being a set gives you the added versatility of wearing the pieces together or separate. Excellent condition.
Each piece is made of three layers of silk chiffon with the skirt having an additional lining as well made of the same silk. Hand finished and weighs ounces. The top closes at the side with a series of hand set snaps. You step into the skirt and then close it at the waist with two flat hook & eye. You could adjust the placement of the hooks at the waist to get an inch up or down if needed.

What a wonderful and dramatic dress this is. It would have been originally sold as a lingerie piece but it is opaque enough that in our modern world it can now easily be worn out as a proper dress. It is made of a fine synthetic silk that is hand washable. Its pleated ruffle top and signature print instantly identifies it as Zandra Rhodes. I have had similar pieces to this in various solid colors in the past but this one is a little extra fabulous since it has one of her signature prints on its black base. Zandra is known for her use of design and pattern and her absolute genius for cut and color shine here. The dress is sleeveless and has double straps that suspend it from the shoulders. It falls in a sheath of fabric with a ruffle detailing the top of the bust. The entire top half of the dress is printed and the cut is very easy to wear and flattering. A little inset of lace on the skirt is the perfect finish. Excellent condition
Unlined and made from a silk looking lingerie weight washable polyester fabric. A classic Zandra Rhodes print screened onto the fabric. It slips on to wear and is opaque enough to be able to be worn on its own. Tagged a S but the loose cut will allow a variety of sizes to fit it. It also has a Bonwit Teller tag

I have had this same dress in the past but it was several years ago and I was happy to have another land in the shop as I always loved this dress. Beene is one of the great American designers and I actively look for his work, especially the earlier pieces from his Geoffrey Beene Boutique days. I absolutely adore this dress. It is a classic blue and white stripe on a almost transparent cotton voile. The skirt is cut with a beautiful fullness and flows out from a defined, banded waist that sits right under the bust and gives you shape. The fabric choice gives it a wonderful light airy feel and it feels wonderful to wear once on. Meeting the band at the waist is a front plunge that is cut in a deep V. Either side of that V then flows into the wide, billowy sleeves. There are no side seams to break the line of the sleeve, they simply just flow out from that V into stunning puffed sleeves that each end in a fitted 5.5" buttoned cuff. The back is equally as dramatic as the front. It also plunges to meet the band at the high waist but here it is cut and set wider so you get a more squared off feel that leaves an bare expanse of skin. A large white flower and sits over a matching fabric bow at the base of the front plunge for a last feminine detail. Excellent condition.
Interlined through the skirt in a semi-sheer white silk organza. The bust is unlined. It close with a series of fabric covered buttons and a low back zipper. Each cuff closes with six fabric covered, round button and loops

Super chic little black dress by Bill Blass Collection III. This would have been a ready to wear diffusion line and I am guessing it was during the 1980s. It is still very well made and has the wonderful lines of Blass. The inner dress is a little, lined, well made sheath of black crepe. Onto this is a panel of the same crepe that is attached all down one side. this drapes across an up to the opposite shoulder where it is caught up by a pretty swatch of black ribbon. I love how it drapes down and across the front while still giving you a sleek and slightly more fitted line from the back. Excellent condition.

arnold scaasi
1960s Arnold Scaasi Couture Gold Cording, Beading & Metallic Applique Dress Jacket Set
I Have a Question
Arnold Scaasi was born Arnold Isaacs in Montreal and the name Scassi is simply his own name reversed. He studied in Montreal and in Paris, apprenticed at the house of Paquin and then worked with the legendary Charles James. In 1964, he opened own couture salon. He dressed Hollywood stars like Lauren Bacall, Diahann Carroll and Elizabeth Taylor. He dressed several first ladies including Mamie Eisenhower, Hillary Clinton and both Bush first ladies. He even once bragged that he refused to give Jackie clothes for free. He was the man behind the scandalous 1969 Barbra Streisand sheer trouser outfit that she collected her Oscar in, and he was presented with the Council of Fashion Designers of America Lifetime Achievement Award in 1996. His mainline was made to couture standards and I am always happy to find his work.
This dress and jacket set combines the richness of a black velvet with an elaborate and brilliant design. The work and attention to detail is incredible. Onto the velvet base is a dense application of gold braid, sequins and beads that are all hand applied and have been set into an amazing 3D design that covers both pieces. The pattern created is a gorgeous and intricate flowering vine that trails across the dress and the jacket. The dress is a strapless, sculpted piece that hugs the bodice and then falls away from the body in an A-line shape. The jacket is cropped and sits over the dress to cover the shoulders. You can wear the jacket open and loose or close it for a more fitted silhouette. The sleeves of the jacket are cut on a curve in the traditional couture manner and I love the bright pink lining that gives a flash of unexpected colour when you wear it open. The cording and bead work fully covers the dress and jacket except for the very top and bottom of the dress which creates a wide band of solid black to anchor the design. The two pieces are is equally stunning worn together or as separates. Scaasi dressed actresses, socialites and first ladies. He also studied at the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne and you can see the evidence of that in work like this set. He was never an official member of the Chambre so even though this is made to couture standards it, like his other work from his main atelier, is considered demi-couture. Excellent condition with a note below.
The dress in fully interlined in a black silk through the bodice and hand finished and aslo has a second lining in the skirt. It closes with a back, hand set painted metal zipper and a second metal zipper on the interior bodice. The bodice is boned. The jacket is fully lined in a fine, high end pink silk and is hand finished. It closes with fabric covered snaps. Many of the larger paillettes are partially broken and a few maybe be missing here and there but the design is so extensive that it doesn't distract at all from the overall effect. The interior lining of the skirt was cut at some point so it now falls just past the hip and has an unfinished edge.

This fun little piece is an absolute dream to wear and just begs to go out, have fun and dance the night away. It is cut to fit and hug your curves in a way that is extremely flattering and sexy. The shoulders are strong and padded (though you could easily remove the padding for a sifter look) and the back is scooped low so you get a bare expanse of skin. The elaborate fringing around the bottom hem gives it movement and a strong nod to the twenties that it is inspired by. More fringes circle each short sleeve. The surface of the black silk base of the dress is entirely covered in a dense covering of beads and sequins. The beads and sequins that cover the dress are all sewn on by hand. The colors used are bright and vibrant and I love how the fringes are all different colors that pick up the colors in the dress. It's fantastic and so amazing once on. Excellent condition.

This Adele Simpson dress is a beauty. and the photographs do not do it justice for how it looks in real life. In person the entire dress glitters and glimmers in the light. The fabric is a light weight knit whose color is a deep coral that has a fabulous gold lurex thread woven through the entire surface of the dress. The combination of gold and coral is striking and will work on most skin tones very well. To offset that glittering gold the lines are kept ultra simple which really allows that amazing fabric to shine through and become the main design element. It is cut long and lean with a sleek and fitted upper bodice with long sleeves and a slightly scooped neck. This glides down in a sleek line to the floor. As it nears the hem, the skirt gently widens. It is fully lined so very forgiving on despite the knit. The cut is done to make you appear as long and lean as possible. If you like it in the photographs you will love it in person as the camera comes no where near capturing the warm glow the dress has from the gold. Excellent condition.
Fully lined, except for the sleeves, in a coral silk and closes with a back painted metal zipper. Each cuff has a hidden set snap to close.

This little black dress is a beauty. It is just exceptional and the more details you start to notice the more you love it. The design is a one shoulder, fitted silhouette that is all tiered ruffles that highlight that design. The bodice is fitted to the bust and curves up and over the shoulder. A ruffled edge circles the neckline and another ruffle curves around the arm opening on the side of the one shoulder. The waist nips in and there is a long tie that you can use to cinch it in further. The skirt is cut so it looks like it wraps around you a ruffle sweeps down the front edge and all around the ham. The skirt is set into the waist with soft gathers so it has a pretty fullness. The fabric is fabulous and is almost semi-transparent and has a "lace" feel, even though it is not lace. It is light and pretty and fabulous. Excellent condition

I Have a Question
This is a beautiful and romantic bias cut silk chiffon dress with a matching full length cape by the great American couturier Oscar de la Renta. Both pieces are constructed from layers of a lightweight, slightly textured, silk chiffon in the prettiest pale, ice blue color. The bodice of the dress is gathered in an elaborate ruching of silk that meets in the center in a thick "braid" that runs down the center front under the sweetheart, strapless neckline. From there, the skirt cascades to the floor at the back and at the front it curves up higher so you get a flash of leg when you move. It is made of three full layers of weightless silk chiffon that float over and around the body to give it the feel of airiness and lightness. Over this sits a matching, full length cape that simply hooks to close at the neck. The lightness of the silk gives it a billowing effect when you move and walk that is stupendous. A really lovely and romantic set. Excellent condition with a tiny note below
The dress is fully lined through the bodice in a hand set blue silk and the three layers of silk chiffon the skirt is made of serve as its lining. The cape is unlined. The dress closes with a side painted metal zipper and the cape closes with a hook & eye at the neck. Hand finishes. I see one tiny area of thinning to the silk on the cape near the bottom at the front side and also to the top layer of the skirt at the back near the hem. There are a couple teeny ares that have darkened on the silk of the skirt. None of these are visible once it is on since there is so much fabric and I don't consider any to be a flaw that takes away from this amazing vintage piece

This was originally meant to be worn as a lingerie piece but you could easily wear it out on its own as the fabric is opaque. It is cut like one of her signature caftan pieces but in a more fluid, washable lingerie weight fabric that is very practical and easy to wear. It would also be easy to travel with and can go from the beach to lunch to evening. Zandra is known for her use of design and pattern, but this piece really allows her absolute genius for design shine through on it's own even with this simple little piece. The caftan is very easy to wear as it just slips on and there is elastic that runs through the waist. The front is very low and sexy with its plunging neckline right to the waist. The sleeves are cut very full and curved like an angle sleeves. I love the knife pleat ruffle that runs around the collar and neck. The skirt flares out so you have a wonderful light fullness as it cascades to the floor. Excellent condition
Unlined and made from a silk looking lingerie weight jersey that is washable. There is a classic Zandra print that runs through the fabric. It slips on to wear and is opaque enough to be able to be worn on its own. The loose cut will allow for a range of sizes.

This beautiful white jersey dress looks like it just walked off the rack. It is amazing when you discover a white piece in such great condition. At first glance you think it is a strapless dress but there is a lovely, single thin strap that extends out from the detailing on the bust that runs over one shoulder to hook in at the back. This pretty little detail elevates the dress somehow and makes it feel even more decadent. The top is molded to the body and features an abundance of gathers that highlight the shape of the torso and bust. I love the sweetheart neckline. At the waist, there is an extra tie of fabric attached for you to tie in a knot at the front for extra detail. The skirt is made of yards and yards of fabric thay swirl and move as you do. Frank Usher's draped jersey gowns are among the most coveted of all his designs and this one is particularly lovely in every way. Excellent condition.
Fully lined in a white silky rayon through the bodice. The skirt has an underlying inner jersey skirt. Note that the hip measurement is taken from this inner skirt and if you needed more room through the hips it would be very easy to add some fabric and it would never show. Lightly boned through the bodice and closes with a painted metal back zipper. Appears to have never been worn

A loose and easy cut dress with that favored one shoulder silhouette is always an amazing vintage staple but to find one by the Yuki brand is a treat. It is such a rare label and I love his work. This piece shows his love of minimal seaming and a simple design. I always love the one shoulder cut. No matter how simple the fabric and line of a one shoulder dress they always have that certain feel of glamour to them. The shoulder that is covered has a detail that sits at the top of the shoulder and this this is attached to the front and back of the dress in soft gathers. This allows for a little more fabric at that side so you get a pretty swoop across the bust and a draped feel down the side. From that single shoulder it falls to the floor in an expanse of jersey that drapes in the prettiest of ways. The color is a deep ivory so it is flattering on most skin tones. The washable jersey allows for that fabulous drape and feels very modern. It is shockingly sexy despite its body skimming cut because of the way the fabric moves when you do. It is just gorgeous and a real find. Excellent condition
Unlined and closes with a side painted metal zipper. The cut will allow it to fit a large range of sizes as it will just drape more on a smaller figure. Made of a washable jersey. The bias cut jersey will allow for a range of sizes.

This beautiful and rare set from Halston that is from the 1971 collection is not perfect but will still make some collector, or the person who doesn't mind a little imperfection a very happy person once they receive this. Both pieces are done in a pale, ice blue silk jersey and both are made from a double layer of the fabric. One of Halston's signatures was how to construct pieces with the absolute minimal seaming and this is a stunning example of how he executed that ideal. The dress is a simple tank then then falls to the floor in a a draped column of jersey that gradually widens as it nears the hem. It skims over the body but is still extremely sexy. The matching jacket is cut to fall to the hip and has the feel of a soft, easy fitting cardigan. It has a neat little collar and no closures with sleeves that are kept slim. Presents as excellent condition and is sound and stable but does have some small flaws to review in the condition notes below.
Both the dress and jacket are made from a double layer of the silk jersey. Both slip on to wear with no closures. The dress has a few small marks and spots on the lower skirt and the hems on both pieces seems to fall a little oddly - this can happen with this fabric if it is hung for extended periods of time. All of the marks are negligible and I photoed the worst ones. The stitching at the seems can be seen a bit here and there. None of these really detract and it is priced accordingly. Because of the stretch of the fabric there is some give to the measurements listed.

The little linen pieces by Geoffrey Beene are some of my favorites by him. He chose the best possible fabrics and that combined with his crisp lines and tailored cuts make for perfect little dresses. This one is amazing and I love the contrast of the red with the white edged buttons. It also features his signature top stitching that he used often during this time period and here he kept the thread red so you have a tone on tone feel. The bodice is sleeveless and has a little scooped neckline. It appears to button down the front with those fabulous buttons but this panel of buttons actually hides a zipper closure. Two more buttons highlight the flap pockets at the waist which are decorative only but add a sweet design touch. The skirt flares out with pleats that give it fullness. It reminds me of a tennis type skirt in its cut and flare. It is fabulous. Excellent condition.
The dress is fully lined in a matching red silk. It closes with a front painted metal zipper set under the panel of buttons. The pocket flaps at the waist are decorative only.

This is one of my favorite pieces of Dior that I have had in the shop. It has both a very innovative design and is visually very beautiful. The fabric is a crisp polished silk with a romantic floral design screened over its surface. I love the soft cherry red mixed with the palest cafe au lait. Each flower and stem is also edged with a fine line in coral that highlights the design. The cut is genius. It nips in at the waist and the skirt is set in a series of soft gathers around the waist. This allows it to flare gently out without adding a large amount of volume. The bodice also gathers softy into the waist for just a hint of blousing and then curves up to a high, square cut neckline. At the back you have two layers to the construction, the interior layer has a single shoulder and curves down on the other side. Over this is a panel of fabric that hooks into place at the shoulder so it is sits deliberately out a touch from the dress. This gives it a wrap over effect that is very pretty. The matching fabric belt circles the waist to add shape. I adore the flat bow that sits at the top of the shoulder. The dress also came with a small length of finished fabric that I have tied in a bow at the waist on the opposite side which is where I believe it was intended. Excellent, museum quality condition.
Interlined in a fine white silk muslin and closes with a back handset painted metal zipper and that back panel closes with hook & eye at the shoulder. The belt is attached and hooks to close. Note the color in person is a soft combination of a red-pink and a soft cherry red. It photoed as a little more of a coral color and is much prettier in person. Appears to have never been worn

I love John Kloss pieces and this is a fabulous and sexy nylon gown by him. John Kloss was an Ossie Clark contemporary and did mainly lingerie pieces with a few draped goddess jersey gowns thrown in for good measure. He deliberately chose good weight and quality nylons that held the color well and would drape exactly as he wished. This one is simply cut and is done in a pretty robin blue. It has a crossed over, front plunge on the sleeveless bodice. The skirt has yards and yards of fabric and cascades out from there and is finished with a pretty ruffled hem. It is pretty opaque so could easily be worn as a dress. Great condition with a note to review below.
Unlined and slips on with an elastic waist. The tie at the waist is for decoration only. The elastic under the fabric has aged and cause the fabric over it to yellow a tiny bit. Some of the threads along the seams have broken slightly but all the seams are strong. These are very minor issues that do not detract and are mentioned for accuracy only. The easy fot and elastic waist will allow it to fit a range of sizes. The color is more a paler lighter blue then photoed

Guy Laroche assisted to Jean Desses before opening his own couture house in 1957 and those years spent working under one of the true masters shows through his work. He is known for his sharp cuts and this gorgeous little dress is a beautiful example of that. It is a seventies take on the 1940s swing dress and I love it. A vibrant print in an array of colors is screened onto a crisp cotton dyed the perfect blue. The top is kept simple with a single shoulder cut that ties into place. Running down one side of the dress is a row of buttons that are all functional. The skirt is fitted but on the hip opposite to the buttoned side sits a panel of fabric that gives the skirt a feel of volume and that forties vibe. Because the swag of fabric sits on the side opposite to the tie on top of the shoulder you get this great sense of balance too. Really a charming and pretty dress. Excellent condition
The top is lined in blue and the skirt unlined. The dress closes with the buttons down the side and it ties at the top of the shoulder. Tagged a 38

Luis Estevez worked for Jean Patou for two years before starting his own label in 1955. Here we have a truly beautiful and exceptional piece that was designed during this first few years of his career. It is impeccably constructed and cut to follow a girl's curves and highlight them. The bodice is cut with a beautiful curved plunge that shows off the bust to full advantage. It is also cut wide across the shoulders so you see the collar bones. This curves in to nip in at the waist and the seaming of the skirt cures up towards the waist as well creating a pretty effect with the seaming and curves of the fabric. The skirt is cut long and lean with the slightest of flares at the back. It is made of a ribbed silk that has a slight sheen to it and is very beautiful. It is fabulous and the inside is constructed as well as the outside is beautiful. Excellent condition
Fully interlined in a black silk organza. It closes with a hand set back painted metal zipper. There is perhaps the slightest showing of where the seams lie under the fabric from being cleaned and pressed over the years but this is minimal and just mentioned for accuracy. It is gorgeous.

I have had the twin of this dress in the past and its as good now as the first time. This is a fabulous little black Courreges shift dresses and it is one of his classic designs. The fabric is jet black, light wool with a fine ribbed texture running through it. It has little cap sleeves and a square neckline that is finished with a two button detail at the front. The skirt flares out at is nears the hem. I love the seaming detail that runs down the front and that there are hidden pockets set along those seams. It is impeccably constructed as one would expect. This is an instantly recognizable, classic Courreges design. Excellent condition.
Tagged a Courreges size 00. Fully lined in a black silky rayon and closes with a back painted metal zipper. Hand finishes and pockets at the front. It was a touch too small on the mannequin and does close perfectly at the back on the right size girl.

This is a stunning 1970s Hanae Mori maxi dress. The construction is fabulous and for this one her fabric of choice is a feather light silk chiffon layered over an inner layer of silk. This makes it feel very light and fabulous once on. The dress is cut super model long and lean and the silk floats around your body in a chic column of fabric. The design that is screened on to the top layer of silk is an abstract pattern. I love the brilliant cherry pink red mixed with the cornflower blue - the two pop against each other and it is a beautiful contrast to the lightness of the fabric. The sleeves are long and left unlined and the entire hem is a circle of swinging, crisp knife pleats. Hanae is the only woman of Japanese descent to have presented on the Paris and New York Runways and the first Asian woman to be admitted as an official Haute Couture house. You can see why in this stunning and vibrant example of her work. I would wear it left long and loose, but you could also belt it to create more shape. Excellent condition with a minor note to review below.
Fully lined in a matching cherry red, fine silk with the sleeves left unlined. It closes with a row of buttons and loops down the back. Hand finishes. I see some very small snags near the shoulder, sleeves and here and there on the body - I think it was improperly stored near something sequined or beaded is my guess. All very minor but noted for accuracy and priced accordingly

I Have a Question
The label on this wonderful Pulitzer dress dates it to the early sixties and it is one of her very earliest labels. She began designing and making her dresses in 1960 and her label was set when Jackie Kennedy wore one of her dresses in Life Magazine. Her bright colored, happy little shifts were favorites of Hampton society girls and they have become classics. Her dresses are bright and fresh and the early ones always incorporated lace details. This one does just that with an applique of lace that runs around the neck and down the front on either side of the buttons. There is also a ring of lace on each sleeve. I love the rounded neckline and long sleeves. It buttons right to the hem and the skirt widens out as it nears that hem. The print on this one is fantastic - it is a happy yellow and green floral print set on a crisp white backdrop. It looks to have never been worm and is a fantastic piece that still feels fresh even after all these years. Excellent condition.
Unlined and closes at the front with buttons. Each cuff buttons to close with two buttons.

This bold and dramatic silk chiffon dress is instantly recognizable as a Hanae Mori piece. Her signature butterflies flit over its surface in an exuberant explosion of color. I absolutely love the bright color palette and find the boldness of it to be a little magical. This is everything you look for in a Hanae piece and is an exceptional example of her work. The cut of dress is a simple column of flowing silk made of two pieces. The inner layer is a fine silk twill that is then topped by a silk chiffon layer. I love how each is laid over the other so that the butterfly pattern aligns. This gives you the most wonderful effect as the layers move over each other slightly as you move and this adds a depth to the pattern that would not be possible with just a single layer of print. It also means that from a construction point of view, the dress is an extravagant use of fabric, as each layer would have had to been cut specifically to achieve this effect. This is couture on the highest level with everything about the piece done to work with the rest. The sleeves are layered silk chiffon and each ends with a dramatic ruffle. The neckline has two layers of a curved and rounded ruffle and is cut wide for a glimpse of collarbone. The gown has its original matching shawl that is also edged in that same ruffled technique. It is hand finished throughout. Excellent condition
The inner dress is fully lined in a silk. That layer has a silk twill exterior and then is topped by the silk chiffon top layer. It closes with a back zipper. Hand finished and hand rolled edges.

This is a beautiful and romantic full length dress with a matching full length scarf or cape piece that can be worn in a variety of ways by the great American couturier Oscar de la Renta. Both pieces are constructed from a lightweight, printed silk chiffon that has a pretty floral design screened onto it's black base. I love how the silk of the cape has an extra layer of texture with its little rectangles of a more opaque pattern woven through the silk effect woven directly into it - this really gives it in extra bit of texture and interest visually - like a lattice upon which the flowers trail across. The bodice of the dress itself is so pretty. It is gathered across the bust and there are tiny silk straps that come out from the center and curve up and around the neck. The skirt cascades to the floor and the silk chiffon floats over the inner silk skirting giving it the feel of airiness and lightness. The skirt is not too full nor too slim. A matching long caped piece can be worn a variety of ways - it hooks to close at the neck and the lightness of the silk allows you to wear it as a cape or even as a long scarf. A really lovely and pretty set that is very well made.Excellent condition
The dress is fully lined in a black silk chiffon through the skirt and a more opaque silk through the bodice. The cape is unlined. The dress closes with a hand set, side painted metal zipper and the cape closes with a hook & eye at the neck. Hand finishes.

Michael Novarese designed gowns for many of the stars during the 1960s and 1980s including the likes of Jane Russell, Liza Minelli, Judy Garland, Dinah Shore, Elizabeth Taylor and many others. I love his work, particularly the earlier pieces from the 1960s and seventies like this one is from. The brilliant red color alone gives this gown that high impact feel and his choice of fabric creates a beautiful flowing effect once the dress is on a real girl. The cut is wonderful with flowing tiers and layers of that fine, red silk chiffon set in spiraled layers over each other on the skirt. This gives the entire gown a feeling of airiness and lightness as the chiffon moves lightly as you move. The sleeves have this same spiraled and tiered effect in their construction giving the piece a wonderful balance. The bodice is kept simple and sweet with a softly scooped neckline that is cut wide for a touch of collarbone to show. A silk chiffon belt in the same red cinches in the waist to give the dress shape, or you can wear the dress without the belt and keep the cut more loose and easy and caftan feeling. Excellent condition with one small item to note below.
Lined in a matching red silk and closes with a series of hook & eye and snaps that conceal the zipper from the waist down as to not interfere with the line of the skirt. Under that lies a painted metal zipper. One very tiny mark on the bodice that would not photo. The price reflects this. More of a true red in person. It has its original chiffon sash and a chiffon covered belt that attaches by snaps to the waist. Note the belt shows some wear but is included as it is original to the dress.
