I Have a Question
This striking and beautiful thirties dress is made from a crisp white machine lace that is pieced together in the most beautiful way. It is meant to skim over the body and highlight your shape without being overly tight. The bodice dipped into a V at the front and there's a pretty little gathering at the base of that V that meets an angled seam coming up from the waist. Straps covered in the same lace curve over the shoulder and down the back. The back is scoop slightly lower for a little bit of bear skin. The way seemed but it is cut a little bit more generously, and then the dress skimmed over the hips and widen out as it hears the ham. The skirts are magnificent. They are cut, so they are very full with a lot of fabric in them. If you lay out the skirt it's a full circle of lace. This means that when you walk you get a tremendous sense of movement around you that is beautiful. The dress is a single layer of lace with no lining underneath. So you do get transparency between the design of the floral flowers in the lace. You would either wear this over something nude or add a coloured slip depending on how daring you want to be. The work inside appears mainly to be by hand. It is truly a special piece and it might even make an amazing wedding dress for the bride looking for a non-traditional choice or as an alternative dress in a more extended wedding celebration. And of course it could also be worn to any event. Excellent condition
Unlined and hooks to close down one side. Hand finishes throughout and in remarkable condition for its age. The lace does have some slight stretch and I put the range below. Perhaps the slightest tiniest bit of patina around the straps but for address of this age it is in excellent condition

I Have a Question
This is a gorgeous example of the work being done early on at the turn of the century. I have put this piece as being from the 1920s but it could be earlier as well. The material is a beautiful ultra fine very tight weave fine linen that may have some silk in its mix. This is the kind of fabric that you will never see outside of vintage and it is beautiful. The jacket has soft shoulders and the sleeves are cut on a curve in the proper tailoring manner. The collar is notched and runs all the way to the low set buttons at the front. It is loose and easy through the body and it flares out slightly under the waist. A band of there same fabric are attached at the back and sides and then extend around the front. I am not sure if I have actually closed it properly so you might have to play with it or move a button to have it sit where it suits you best. The buttons are phenomenal and appear to be hand carved. Larger one sit at the front and then a series of tightly spaced smaller versions run up each cuff of the sleeves. More buttons adorn the top set pocket that sit on each hip. Each sides extends down into a point. It's quite fabulous. Excellent condition for its age but please review the notes below
At some point it was relined and is now lined in a pale gold toned silk. It is in overall amazing condition given its age. I do see tiny pinhole in the fabric here and there and shot the worst of them. There are some tiny marks here and there as well. a bit of grubbiness across the top bar. Some of the buttons show chipping. Given that this is 100 years old or more it is in truly remarkable clean crisp condition and was obviously well taken care of and stored properly. Sold as found

I Have a Question
It is so hard to find exceptional twenties pieces anymore and this one is fabulous. It is a gorgeous twenties flapper coat can actually double as a dress because it closes all the way up. It is made out of a beautiful fine black wool that is light in weight and easy to wear. This is accented with the most unusual corded raffia finish that highlights all the edges of the coat. It has a beautiful drape and ease. It will fall to just about the ankles depending on your height and it has a loose and easy cut so can be thrown on over just about anything. The shoulders are soft and and the sleeves widen out as they near their ends. At the top of each shoulder are four bands of that amazing raffia trim. More raffia edges the neckline and falls all the way down the front and around the hem. Where the coat angles to cross over itself to close the four banding detail continues down from there to the hem. There is an elastic with a hooked end to hold the coat in place inside. You wrap it over you and it snaps into place on the other side. An attached strap curves around your back and then buttons in place. The body of the coat is almost tubular as a result with just a slight flare as it reaches the hem. There is also a button at the top of the neck and so that you can wear the neck open or closed. It is a fantastic and unusual design and a really stunning example of the creativity that you saw during this time period. Excellent overall condition with a small note below
It closes as described above. I see a couple of pinholes on the wool here and there but they are stable. The raffia was probably brighter when new but still remarkable bright given that its 100 years old. Hand finished throughout with ribbon edge finished interior. The loose and open cut should fit a range of sizes. For its age it is in remarkable condition

It is rare to find labeled dresses from this time period and this one is especially beautiful. The label is from E. L. Mayer and that stood for Edward L. Mayer who had a high end shop in New York around the turn of the century. Main Bocher, who of course later had his own Mainbocher label, actually did some of the design sketches for Mayer before launching his own label in 1929. Designer Clare Potter, who is credited with helping to invent women's sportswear, also worked there for a time period. It is fascinating to think that this dress could have the influence of either of them or even be from one of their designs. It is a stunningly beautiful piece and it would perhaps make an amazing wedding dress for the bride looking for a non-traditional choice or as an alternative dress in a more extended wedding celebration. And of course it could also be worn to any event.
The dress is in absolutely remarkable condition given its age. The fabric is a silk that is a pale ivory gold in colour and is quite beautiful. This then has a pattern woven through it of flowers and that fabric is done with a muted metallic lame thread. This gives the dress this fabulous bit of a metallic glint from shoulder to hem. The dress slips over the head and is caught up at one side with a rhinestone encrusted clasp. Once closed, this gives it just a suggestion of shape through the body. I think the deeper V plunging side may have originally been intended to be worn at the back but since there is a modesty panel inset at the base of the V the dress can really work worn either way. I photoed it both ways for you to see. On the V side the dress falls from straps made of the same silk as the rest of the dress and the triangles of silk are sent slightly asymmetrically from each other so that one goes over to one side more. A loose belt is attached around the low waist and there is an attached rhinestone clasp. Once this is closed it brings the fabric in a bit on that side. The skirt falls from under there and widens out to the hem. There is an added panel of silk that begins just under that stunning clasp and this is cut so that it falls past the hem for a beautiful trailing effect. If you decide to wear the dress turned the other way around this panel becomes a detail at the back and creates a train like feel on that side. The bodice is more square off on the opposite side and I love the hand applied detailing just of the side of the neckline. More of those hand applied cuts outs sit near the rhinestone at the hip as well. It is truly an exceptional dress from this time period. Excellent condition with a couple of small notes below
The dress has an attached inner silk dress and slips over the head. Part of the upper bodice is lined in a silk. The belt at the Iow waist is attached and closes with a rhinestone clasp buckle. There is perhaps the slightest of darkening to the fabric on the sides. The photos here are darker then how it is in person. I see one small spot on the more squared off side and there is just the start of shattering to some of the lining of the bodice. I see a water mark on the very end of the side panel. Please see the shots after the label shot. For a dress this age I would say the condition is still exceptional and it is highly wearable and strong. The dress is cut on the bias so is meant to drape in place. On a smaller frame it will just drape more. These are meant to skim over the body

I Have a Question
Charles H. Fox opened a small London shop in 1878 where he sold wigs, costumes, accessories and makeup to the Theatre people. He was a famously flamboyant character and was also known for helping people disguise themselves with makeup and costumes - and apparently his clients for that part of his business ranged from cheating husbands to private detectives. He ran his business from 1878 to his death in 1898 giving us a twenty year window of time when this would have been made within. Despite its grand age it is in remarkable shape and one of the best pieces I've ever seen from this time period.
This coat is utterly amazing and a true work of art. It is one of the things that you will only see once in your lifetime and only in the world of vintage. It is made from blue and deep gold brocade. The fabric does have some weight to it and it feels quite heavy when you lift it on the hanger but once on the body it drapes and sits very well. It is an extravagant great coat with all the wonderful dandy feel that that entails. It is deliciously decadent. There is no collar and it closes with has hidden set metal hooks down the front. Bands of gold braiding, with what perhaps looks like maybe a suggestion of a grape design, run down the front on either side. That same braiding also edges the amazing cuffs. The shoulders are soft and the sleeves extend from there and are finished with giant oversize cuffs. They are absolutely incredible and give it a bit of a pirate feel. The cuffs extend out well beyond the sleeve and are a full 11 inches wide at their widest height. Detailing each cuff are bands of gold cord stitched in place to suggest oversized buttonholes. Real metal gold toned buttons sit along the edge of each of those. That same oversized buttonhole detail also runs down the front of the coat with each one ending in another of the gold metal buttons. Mimicking the cuff detailing of the sleeves are huge flaps on each side of the front hip. These have more of the gold cording and button detailing and are actually hiding functional pockets underneath. The jacket is cut to skim over the chest, comes in slightly at the waist and then flares out dramatically. In person this flaring out feels even more dramatic than how it photos. There are slits up each side and there is extra fabric there to help add to the volume. At the back is a deep vent edged with gold braiding and more of the button detailing. And every button is present even after all this time. The interior is finished in cotton and is in amazing condition for a age. There is some minor fading to the inside fabric here but there are no true flaws on this coat and nothing that I would say is not natural patina of being somewhere in the area of 130 years old. To be completely wearable and in this condition for something of that age seems a little miraculous actually. The camera comes close but does not fully capture its beauty and presence when you see it in person. It is divine. Excellent condition.
Fully lined in soft blue cotton muslin and a heavier olive coloured cotton on the back inner bodice. It closes at the front with hidden set metal hook & eye. The fabric is wonderfully clean and strong. There are no real flaws to note other then a tiny bit of fading to parts of the blue interior here and there and a small repair near the interior seam of the arm. The exterior fabric is strong and wearable with nothing other then natural patina for its age. It is a garment that is somewhere near 130 years old and remarkable. Completely made by hand. Note that that company did exist on and off until present day and there is a chance it could be later but the source I got it from many many years ago was firm that it was this time.

I Have a Question
This is an absolutely beautiful piece from this time period. It is made out of a metallic silk lame brocade with metallic gold and silver thread mixed with coral and pale blue. The texture and depth to the fabric that this creates is absolutely stunning. The shape is that classic late teens - early 1920s style with an oversized cocoon feel to it. To wear it you slip it on and it buttons in place on the one side and ties inside. This creates that beautiful overlap at the front. Below that is a wide panel of a bronze coloured silk velvet. I love the top stitching detail that runs over the top of that panel. It is these small details that always makes these pieces feel so special. More velvet is used to finish each sleeve with a panel that hangs off the cuffs. I love how this creates a bit of movement when you move. The coat is lined in a peach silk for a pretty bit of colour when it opens. The coat is cut loose and easy with a large shawl collar. The back part of the collar is gathered and then it wraps around you and down the front. This shape that would have been the height of fashion in the twenties and designers like Paul Poiret and Chanel were particularly adept at this silhouette. My photos do not do it full justice and in real life the fabric has a luminescent quality to it that the camera does not pick up. It is gorgeous. I love these and they are very hard to find in this condition anymore. Excellent condition with a small note below
Fully lined in deep peach silk. It slips on and buttons at the side. Inside there is a silk ribbon that snaps into place. The exterior fabric is strong and sound with only a tiny flat area on the velvet on the collar shown on the final photo here. The interior silk is sound with no issues. For a garment that is 100 years old it is in remarkable conditon. Hand finishes throughout. The easy cut will fit virtually any size. If you leave the inner strap unsnapped the one side hangs very low and creates an interesting asymmetrical feel at the front
Inside shoulders: 16" but the are soft and slouchy so will work on a variety of sizes
Sleeves: approx 26" from natural shoulder and the panel drops 8" from the sleeve
Bust: to 24" flat across the inside back from side seam to side seam
Waist: open
Hips: 23" flat across the inside back from side seam to side seam
Length: 47-50" from neck to hem as the drape varies the length

I Have a Question
When my client sent me this I literally gasped out loud when I pulled it out of the box. This is an absolutely spectacular embroidered silk Chinese cape coat from the twenties or even a little earlier. It has a label identifying it as being from a costume company so it may be a piece that was made by them from embroidered silk fabric imported into the west. The label that is in it is also extremely old so I have no doubts that all of the materials originate from the 1920s or even earlier. It's hard to even describe this piece because it's so beautiful. The floral design on it is particularly bright and vivid. It has the most brilliant pops of color that are perfectly offset by the stunning purple silk backdrop. The design that runs over it is a spectacular explosion of flowers and trailing leaves that completely cover the entire piece. The colors are as vibrant as the day it was done and I cannot gush enough about the level of workmanship of the embroidery. If you lay it out flat it's cut in a giant rectangle that split down the centre at the front and slightly offset on a slight angle on one side. This side wraps over the other side and is secured with a button and a series of hook and eye. The sleeves where you put your arm through are created by a tacking of the side seam about halfway down the center. This creates a stunning draped cocoon effect once it's on the body as all of that fabric falls and drapes around you. Black silk highlights the collar and the edge at the bottom. Once on this becomes a kind of hybrid cape … coat .l.. cocoon fabulousness that is literally like wearing a piece of art. I cannot say enough good things about this piece. It is truly a spectacular piece from this time period. Excellent condition
Lined in a matching solid colour version of the same purple silk as the exterior. Completely finished by hand. There's a hidden inside pocket on one side. It closes with a big black satin covered button on one side and hook and eye down the side and collar. I see a well done repair at the back of the neck. It otherwise looks like it's been immaculately stored over the last 100 years. The open cut should allow it to fit just about any size.
It measures 60" from end to end across the top and is 36" wide at the center point. Once on the body drops and drapes to approximately 52" inches at its longest point.

I Have a Question
This fabulous little kimono is no longer 100% perfect bit given its age I think its allowed its few imperfections. These little silk kimono inspired jackets /robes were being made during the 1920s for the tourist markets. This one is utterly stunning and hauntingly beautiful. The cut is soft and easy and cut along the lines of a traditional piece. The silk is hand dyed to this beautiful and unusual shade of blue. Inside it is lined in a woven ivory silk that has a pattern throughout. The bottom edge is padded and then sleeves are dropped. The back and each front side has a magical embroidered dragons done on them that are just gorgeous. It can be tied at the waist for shape or just worn loose and easy. These are fantastic to wear at home, as a light evening topper or even as a dress if you add a silk slip under it. Great overall condition with some notes below to review before buying
Fully lined in an ivory tissue silk with no front closure. This item is around 100 years old and has been worn & loved. There are some discoloration to the lining here and some shattering to the lining near the neckline. Shattering to the silk along the padded edge here and there. Perhaps the slightest bit of sun fading that goes across one shoulder. The belt is a close match bit I doubt it is the original. A nick out of the fabric on the collar and some colour change near the front opening. These all add to the patina and in my opinion are not a detraction, but it is priced to reflect the current condition. Please see all the photos provided. It is still completely strong and wearable with care. It is all made by hand. Sold as found.

I Have a Question
This exquisite 1920s dress has some of the most phenomenal bead work I have seen on a dress. It has an almost 3D aspect to it in places and the workmanship is incredible. It is such a treat to see this level of hand work anymore. The base of the dress is a weighted silk in a matte black and it is still strong and sturdy. These are increasingly rare finds as these pieces get older year by year. Onto this base is a beaded design. The beads are entirely hand applied and you can see all of the lovely handwork on the interior. It is really an amazing piece of art. The design is done in two components. There are the black glass beads that cover the entire dress. These are set in rows that run down the length of the dress and then switch to horizontal rows for the bottom portion of the dress. On each side of the dress towards the lower hem there is a large bouquet of flowers all done by hand. The dress is cut in that tubular column feeling style as as was the fashion of the day and has a loose and easy silhouette with no sleeves and a wide scooped neckline. Running around the neckline is a long panel of silk that you can simple let hang or wrap around the neck as I have done. There is even a little opening where it is attached at the neck so that you can loop one panel through and it stays in place. Each panel is wide and hangs to meet the flowers worked into the sides of the dress. At the end of each of those panels is another hand done floral bouquet. It is incredibly beautiful and the bead work is dense so the design has a 3D aspect to it. It is really a extraordinary piece and when you see it in person I think you will be blown away by the beadwork. It is still strong and wearable with the care and love. This is one of the best 1920s pieces I have ever seen in a while. Museum quality. Excellent antique condition
The dress is unlined and slips on to wear. The silk base of the dress appears to be strong and sturdy. The vast majority of the beads are present. I see a bit of missing beads on one row. Please see the last photo. For a piece of this age with this level of beading I would still rate it as excellent. There may be some tiny missing areas of beads here and there but otherwise I see no other flaws. It appears to have been worn very little if at all. It is wearable with the care it would deserve to be worn with. The dress is remarkably sound and beautiful. It is almost 100 years old and is considered to be in museum quality condition. The loose and easy cut should work on a range of sizes and frames

I Have a Question
This is an exceptional full length coat from the 1920s, maybe early 1930s, that is made of a beautiful black silk velvet and is accented with ermine fur at the collar. It has its original I. Magnin label and would have been a high end piece in its day. The silk velvet that it is made out of is a dream to wear. It is a fabric that has the most beautiful drape and ease. It falls to the floor and has a loose and easy cut so can be thrown on over just about anything. The upper portion of the coat has high capped shoulders and these curve gracefully into the sleeves. Each sleeve is quite special with its full cut through the shoulders for volume and then how it is cut to follow the curve of your arm in the proper tailoring tradition. All the volume is on the upper arm and then it narrows on a graceful curve to the wrist. The bodice is fabulous with a wide soft collar that has a man's evening coat feel to it. It curves around the neck and falls very wide across the shoulders and dips down right to the waist. It is done in creamy white ermine fur backed with the black velvet. Under that the coat then falls in a long line to the floor with just a hint of suggestion of shape at the waist. It has no true closures and I added a long black grosgrain ribbon so you can see how pretty it is belted. I will send this ribbon with the coat and you could easily add your own belt too or wear it without a belt. Excellent condition with a minor note below
Fully lined in a black silk taffeta. No closures. The loose and open cut should fit a range of sizes. Some grubbiness on the back of the collar. Please see the last photo after the label shot. For its age I still rate this as excellent. The fur has no odor, is still supple and is stable with no signs of excessive shedding that would indicate that it is breaking down.

I have a small collection of historically important, key designer labelled vintage furs, fur trimmed & feather pieces stored away in my archives that I will be slowly posting on the site over the next couple of years until I have none left. I will no longer be buying furs for the shop moving forward and have not purchased anything for several years now. I feel like times have changed and while there still is a place for vintage furs for some, including collectors and historians, many modern girls are choosing other options. Many of the pieces in my collection are representative of the designer during a set time period in history that was different then our modern outlook. I have decided that the best course to handle this controversial issue is to let the pieces I have go rather then sit in a cold storage unit. All fur coats, fur trimmed & feather pieces are final sale

I Have a Question
This is one of the best silk velvet pieces from this time period that I have seen in a very very long time. It is really just incredible and it is now so rare and hard to find these in such amazing condition. Both the dress and matching jacket are finished to Haute Couture standards and it is maddening to not have a label to know who designed this. It is so beautiful and special that it obviously is a rare piece by a high end designer. The dress is fabulous in its own right. It was a hard piece to photo since it is entirely cut on the bias. It is meant to be on an actual body and my dress form is not doing it anywhere near the justice it deserves. The dress fall in a V at the front and the bodice is cut in that loose and easy way over the bust that pieces from this time period were done in. The waist nips in and the skirt falls to the floor under that. The skirt has yards of silk velvet it in and when you stand still it falls in a smooth column but when you move you see just how much volume is there. At the back it does up with a series of silk velvet covered buttons and then there is another button at the nape of the neck. This leaves an open slit running down your back between the buttons. It was then detailed with tiny prong set glass rhinestones that wrap around the waist and follow the incredible lines and the seams at the back and the front. These catch the light and add a fabulous glitter to the dress. Over this goes the little matching jacket. It is cut to be very simple. The shoulders are soft and it drops in a v at the front with a snap to secure it at the base of the V. Each sleeve is to the elbow and encrusted in more of those little glass crystal rhinestones. and teeny tiny glass tube beads. I love the little opening at the top of each shoulder. Once on an actual body this will allow a little peak of skin to show through. It is truly incredible and if you are a fan of these pieces from the late twenties / early thirties you know just how exceptional and rare it is. Excellent condition
Unlined and closes with a series of covered buttons at the back. The jacket has a snap at the front. All the inner seams are finish by hand and it is made to couture standards. Perhaps the very occasional rhinestone or bead missing but there are no bare spots. Some of the glass rhinestones have darkened. This is normal for those embellishment from this time period. For a garment 100 years old it is in amazing condition

I Have a Question
This is such a wonderful example of the level of hand work that was put into garments from this time period. It is so special and the workmanship is extraordinary. It was completely made by hand and the beadwork on it is amazing. Teeny tiny seed beads have been hand applied to the black silk crepe base. They are set to follow that wonderful jagged hem. This ends in points all around the top and the beadwork is done in two wide panels stacked on top of each other in the exact same shape. Each beaded band is a full 5" at its widest point. The beads are a combination of red and black and the work to hand apply all of these beads would have taken many hours. The shape of the top is perfectly representative of the time period with a loose and easy cut that just falls over the body. The neck is scooped and there is a button at the back that sits above a small open keyhole. If you love it in the pictures you will be extraordinarily happy when it arrives. I Have a Question
This is one of those pieces that you can only find in vintage. It is so spectacular and it would certainly be the show piece of any collection. This one is impossible to date and I suspect that it was custom made back in the 1950s or 1960s from that amazing antique fabric. It is cut with a nod to a kimono in its shape and when it is off of the body and laid out flat you can see the nod to the T shape that it has. I love how the slleeves are cut to be so wide and the body so very full. This allows it to fit just about any body shape and it has this fantastic over-sized feel to it. Once on it drapes beautifully over the body to create the most interesting shape. Inside it is lined in a bright fresh spring green that gives you that fantastic pop of colour when you open it. On the exterior is that beautiful antique fabric. It is a deep black silk that is incredibly fine. Onto that is the beautiful flower pattern that you see. This has been hand embroidered over the surface of the silk and the colours are spectacular. Bright red roses are mixed with greenery, yellow vines and blue flowers. This covers the entire coat. To contrast the colours there is a braided trim done in an orange and black. The trim edges all of the edges and runs down the front. Then if all of that was not enough it closes with a tightly spaced row of matching knotted buttons and loops that run all the way from neck to hem. It is truly one of the best pieces I have ever seen. It has a substantial weight but feels balanced and easy to wear once on. Excellent antique condition with a note below to review
Fully lined in a spring green coloured cotton as shown and closes with the buttons down the front. The generous cut should fit just about anyone. There is some shattering to the silk near the seams underneath and near where it attaches into the body of the coat. It is stable and you would never see this when on. A couple of flowers here and there have some thread loss that is super minor. Please see the final photos after the shots of the coat laid out flat. I suspect that the fabric on the exterior is over 100 years old so in antique terms it is still in amazing condition.

I Have a Question
This is a spectacular little embroidered silk Chinese export shawl from the twenties or even a little earlier. The floral design on it is particularly bright and vivid. It has the most brilliant pops of color that are perfectly offset by the black silk backdrop. The design that runs over it is a spectacular explosion of flowers and trailing vines that follow the curve of the shawl. The colors are as vibrant as the day it was done. Very dramatic and so wearable. Its curved shape allows you to drape it over the shoulders and wear it as an evening cape or use it in your home as a show-stopping accessory. I love the fringed edges and the way the back is flipped over and held in place by that huge tassel made of black cording. The stitching appears to be primarily machine stitch with some finishes done by hand. Excellent condition
It is edged all the way around with a 6" inch hand knotted silk fringe border. The fringe is in great condition with minor wear/tangles to the ends which is normal for these. It measures 72" from end to end including the fringes and is 26" high at the center point.
This was lovingly stored properly and is in excellent condition despite being almost 100 years old now. Any wear is natural patina and only adds to the beauty of this fabric.

I Have a Question
This exquisite 1920s dress is made from a mix of an actual metallic gold thread has been woven together with a deep burgundy coloured silk. These early lame's were mainly being made in France and were extremely expensive to make because of the gold thread. You just do not see its equivalent in modern fabric ever which makes these early piece that much more coveted. To give you an idea of value, pieces made from this gold lame were often in and around the $100 mark or more and in the 1920s you could buy a car for $600 dollars. This one dates to the late twenties and you can see the influence of the 1930s in its design. Women were still wearing very little under their garments at this period of time and this dress simply drapes over the body and is extremely sensual in feel. It is so hard to find pieces at this level from this period anymore and this one is extraordinary.
The mix of a the deep burgundy and the gold is very beautiful. When you see the dress in person the gold is the more predominant colour and the entire dress shimmers in the light. There is a floral pattern that is worked through the silk and this runs over the dress from shoulder to hem. The cut is kept simple and reflects the time period perfectly. Wide straps extend out from the halter cut of the bodice and curve over the shoulders and down the low cut back. The front dips into a deep plunge. It crosses over itself slightly where it meets the waist so that it stays in place when you have it on. At the back it dips just as low and ends in a pretty curve at the base of the plunge. From just under the bust to the top of the hips the fabric is gathered and wrapped around to follow the curve of the body. The gathers meet down the centre on both sides in an elaborate panel made of the same fabric. The panel is set into the dress and has been gathered with ruching so that it catches the light differently and creates a bit of a break in the design. Below this the skirt falls to the floor in a series of soft pleats that wrap all the way around the hips. It curves up in a slit at the front so that you get a bit of leg showing when you move. The dress is entirely cut on the bias and drapes beautifully once on the body. The lightness and fluidity of the fabric make it move around you like liquid. It is a remarkable example of the work being done during this time period. The colour is still vivid and the fabric is strong & wearable. The part I love the best - because the gold thread is actual metal when you first put the dress on it is cool to the touch and then it warms to your body temperature as you wear it. Remarkable. Excellent condition with a note below
Unlined and slips on to wear with a row of hand set snaps down the side to close it. Hand finishes throughout. There are a couple of small areas of darkening to the lame and I have photos the darkest spot. This is a natural occurrence to this type of fabric as the metal oxides over time. I do not consider this to be a flaw and any tiny areas only add to the patina of this outstanding dress. There is a small area of thinning of the fabric in the skirt that is just off from the side the front middle seam. It appears stable and I chose to leave it as it gets lost in the folds once the dress is on. There is a small repair to the hem of the skirt. Please review the last three photos provided. The fabric does have some stretch since it is all cut on the bias but the under bust measurement is fixed with no give.

I Have a Question
This dress is far from perfect but it is an incredible vintage textile and is still wearable with care. This was probably made by Chinese artisans for the Western market and is an incredible example of the work being done during this period. I have seen a few of these older pieces but this one is especially special as it is all done by hand. It has the classic lines of a Cheongsam and is made out of a fine pink silk. It wraps and closes with frog knots and antique buttons down one side and up to the neck. The collar is high and the work on it is extraordinary. The pattern is a mix of hand applied sequins, that I believe are gelatin, and incredible embroidery work that has been all done by hand. The colours and designs are like wearing a piece of art. The set has lots of light overall damage. I see fading, missing sequins, fraying and shattering here and there, some marks... and yet it is still a thing of absolute beauty. Buy it knowing it is flawed but a true piece of history and beauty.
Fully lined in a cotton muslin and closes at the side. The buttons are all present but some of the frog knots heat snapped. there is overall light damage throughout as described above and I had added quite a few photos so that it is fairly represented. Sold as found and has not been cleaned so that no further damage would be caused.

I Have a Question
Howard Greer started his career working for the famed Lucile. He then served int he war and upon his return in 1921 got a job in Hollywood. By 1925 he was the head of the wardrobe department of the studio that we now know of as Paramount. In 1927 he opened a couture salon patterned after Lucile and his time there. He was the first costume designer to open his own couture house. His pieces took weeks to complete and required numerous fittings. They were also exorbitantly priced. In 1946 he began a ready-to-wear line that incorporated hand finishes making them alongside the couture pieces. He shuttered the label in 1962. This is an earlier example of his couture work and it is exceptionally beautiful.
It is rare to see a dress from this period as pretty and romantic as this one. It has that Old Hollywood glamour feel and it is easy to imagine that it could have been made for a Hollywood starlet. The bodice has shaped cups and wide straps that curve up and around the neck from the outside edges of the bust line. The top is curved in a sweetheart shape and then it skims over the body, past the waist and ends just at the top of the hips. The upper back is left bare. I also photoed it laying flat so that you can see the cut when it closes completely since it would not close on my dress form. The bodice has been entirely covered with hand done bead work. Silver glass tube beads cover every inch and have been densely spaced into curving rows. They catch the light wonderfully when you move. The skirt is divine. It is made up of three full tiers of silk tulle that has been stacked on top of each other with definitive edges. At first glance you would think that the effect the tiers have were achieved by using multiple layers of tulle over each other for each tier, but they are actually one single layer of tulle each. The netting that he used is so soft and so fine that he just has gathered it so that it has the volume that you see on each tier. This is a testament to the quality of the fabric found in this time period because I can honestly say that I have not encountered a finer, softer silk tulle. The edges of each tier have been left raw and this gives the dress a slightly deconstructed feel that adds to its beauty. It has this decadent feel to it that only a piece that is of this age and this well made has. This could also be a spectacular wedding piece for the bride looking to wear vintage. It is absolutely stunning in person. Excellent antique condition with some small notes below.
The skirt is fully lined with a cream silk and the bodice is unlined. Light interior boning on the bodice. You can see all the hand work on the back of the bodice. It may have been lined at some point. It closes with a back painted metal zipper and the halter slips over the head. It was folded and sewn to shorten the strap lengths at some point in its history. I see one tiny area of missing beads on the bodice and some loose beads here and there. Please see the photo after the label shot. The bead work is entirely done by hand. Hand work throughout. It's wearable as is but if you want to wear it for an event where you have it on for hours you might want to get to lined for extra re-inforcement. Note that is was photoed on a size 2-4 dress form and it would not close. Best suited for a 0-2

I Have a Question
This is a gorgeous twenties flapper coat that is not 100% perfect but too dreamy to not give it a second life. It is made out of a beautiful caramel wool that is soft and light. This is accented with light taupe collar this is finished in what looks like a faux broadtail. The coat has a beautiful drape and ease. It falls to just past the knees and has a loose and easy cut so can be thrown on over just about anything. The upper portion of the coat has soft rounded shoulders and these curve gracefully into the sleeves. Each sleeve is quite special with a huge turned up cuff that ends in two angled points. More detail is added to the cuffs with four lovely curving scalloped designs that run up the length of each cuff. These same scalloped edges are used along the seams of the front and at the back. The collar is equally special with a wide soft cut that sits up a bit from the shoulders and at the back it angles down into a point. The button to close it at the front is a large hand carved bakelite button. I love the folds of fabric under the button that fall to look like a ribbon to the hem. At some point someone has removed the entire interior lining and the seams have bits of that and the ribbon that secured it here and there. I see a small repair that is hidden when you close the coat. It is so lovely that I feel that these things that you don't see when it is one are entirely forgivable. Excellent condition other then the items noted. Please read the full description below
The lining has been removed and you can see parts of it here and there at the edges. It closes with the button at the front. I see a repair to the wool on the front under where it crosses over. This is hidden when the coat is closed. There is a residue under on arm at the seam that shows through and a repair on the loop that closes the coat. Please see the last three photos. Sold as found. The loose and open cut will fit a range of sizes. For its age it is still sound and wearable.

I Have a Question
This is an exceptional twenties flapper coat that is made of a beautiful and fine deep brown wool and is accented with a thick and curly sheepskin at the collar, cuffs and the hem. I love that is almost is a play on gender as it has a touch of the feel of what men were wearing in this time period but at the same time still feels decidedly female. It falls to just past the knees and has a loose and easy cut so can be thrown on over just about anything. The upper portion of the coat has soft rounded shoulders and these curve gracefully into the sleeves. Each sleeve is spectacular with long and extensive sheepskin cuffs. The cuffs circle the lower portion of the sleeve and then trail up and around the back of the elbow. The collar is equally as special and is exaggerated in size. It extends well out past the shoulders and curves around the back. It then dips down to the waist with a touch of a men's evening coat feel to it. Another panel of sheepskin was added all around the hem in a very wide panel. I love how the top of the bottom panel is finished with a soft curving scalloped edge. Just above that are topstitched pin tuck seams that follow the scalloping of the sheepskin. These are done in stacked row and are set all the way around the lower part of the coat. More top stitched seams are done under the back collar even though most are hidden. The inside of the coat has been lined with a matching silk satin with a striped texture to it much like men's suiting. It closes low and to one side with a huge carved bakelite button. I love the wide and easy swing cut through the body. Excellent condition with notes below
Fully lined in a matching brown silk. It closes with the button at the front and silk ribbons inside that snap around a loop. One tiny hidden pocket along the inner seam of the opening. The loose and open cut should fit a range of sizes. There is some wear and loss of silk under the interior of each arm and around the collar. For its age I still rate this as excellent.

I have a small collection of historically important, key designer labelled vintage furs and fur trimmed pieces stored away in my archives that I will be slowly posting on the site over the next couple of years until I have none left. Fur coats are final sale.
I Have a Question
This is a remarkable antique wrapped robe that can serve double duty as a light evening coat. These are very difficult to date but I think it would be somewhere near and around the twenties. These type of pieces were constructed with a level of hand work that is getting harder and harder to find. It is not 100% perfect but its construction and beauty far outweigh its small flaws. The exterior is extensively covered with a beautiful crewel embroidery technique that has all been done by hand. The design work is exceptional. Dense embroidery work create a beautiful wide border that runs fully down the front edges, circle each cuff and adorn each little top set pocket on the hip. There is a large medallion of embroidery on the upper back, more along the edges of the side slits and even the ends of the belt have been finished with a little bit of embroidery. The base is a fine and light, deep green coloured wool. It is cut loose and easy like a mens bathrobe would be and you just use the tie belt to wrap and cinch it around you. You can wear this as a spectacular evening coat, or wrap it over something to wear it as a dress, or keep it as a boudoir piece. I love that there is a tiny bit of extra embroidery on one sleeve and I suspect that it is the signature of the artist that did this work. It is exquisite and a testament to the great craftsmanship and highly skilled technique that is rapidly being lost. Excellent overall condition with a note to review below
Unlined and wraps to close with the original belt. The wool is in remarkable condition for its age. The crewel work is also in amazing condition and was all don by hand. It does have various storage marks on the embroidery work and these that present as a darkening/yellowing to the thread. It has been cleaned but I did not have my cleaners be too aggressive with it. Please review all photos provided. I have also included detail photos showing the hand work on the embroidery for both the front and back. Please remember that pieces of this age will have a natural patina and should not be expected to be absolutely perfect (though this is close outside of the discolourations). The loose and open cut should work on a range of sizes.

This is a lovely piece of lingerie that is just incredible when you look at it from the view point of the hand work that would have been done to make this. If you were to try to buy new lingerie at this same level of construction it would be at an insane price if you could even find anyone doing this still. The gown is made out of a pink silk that is very feminine in feel. It has classic thirties bias cut lines to it and this makes the dress have incredible movement and drape over the body. It is tagged with an I. Magnin Importers tag and it most likely a French piece. The front plunges in a deep V and the back is slit down the middle. The sides are completely open to the waist. The waist nips in and the skirt flares out quite extensively under that. Hand done detailing is on the front side of the bodice with a flower made of embroidery work, open cut outs and satin. I have included a shot of the back of the fabric for this area for you to see to handwork. The sweetest little pockets sit on each side of the waist and these have that same detailing done on them. Pink satin ties extend out from each side and tie at the back. It is in amazing condition and looks to have been worn very little if at all. Excellent condition
Unlined and slips on to wear. The waist has no opening so as is would be best suited for someone very tiny as you have to be able to get the waist past your shoulders to get it on. That said, it would be fairly easy to open a side seam and add snaps so that it is easier to get into. Hand finished throughout and a truly amazing example of the work done for lingerie during this time period. The fabric is cut on the bias so will come up a bit in length once on an actual body. The fabric is fairly opaque so you could probably wear this out with nude/proper undergarments

I Have a Question
This exceptional 1920s dress is extra special because of both its condition and that extraordinary and unusual color. You rarely find bright vivid pieces like this from this time period and certainly not in this condition. The dress is made from a luxurious deep fuchsia pink silk velvet. The bodice is cut to skim over the bust with a slightly dropped waist typical to the time period. The skirt is gathered into the dropped waist so that it has a bit of volume below and to the hem and it is cut longer at the back then the front. Accenting the pink are gold lame details and the fabric used for the gold parts is the real metal thread lame that you will never find in modern clothing. It is used first at the collar which circles the neck so prettily with a little gather at the front. At the back there is a darling little bow with ties that extends down the length of the back and here the gold is mixed with the pink velvet. At the waist there is a pretty little flower made out of the gold lame and another gold flower is set onto the skirt. It is stunning. It has the perfect bit of weight to it so that the dress hangs perfectly once it is on the body. It is an absolute treasure. It is such a rarity to find a piece this old and in this condition considering it is entirely original and so many of the pieces you see at market at this level of condition have had restoration work done to them. Excellent antique condition with some small flaws inherent to its age and noted below.
The velvet is self lined and the dress closes down the side with snaps. For an original piece that is now almost 100 years old I would rate this as excellent overall condition. I see some wear to the gold lame here and there, most notably on the piping around the arms, both shows shattering and you can see the cording that the gold was piped around in areas, There is a shiny mark to the velvet on the front bodice and some marks on the skirt. The last four photos show these areas. There may be minor scuffs here and there but the dress is sound, strong and wearable. The color is deeper and richer in person. Hand finished throughout

I know I don't normally carry men's items but this little vest was so chic that I could not resist it. Plus it was dated to the day 4-2-20 and that just made it that much more special. It is a beautiful example of menswear and it can easily be gender free with its simple but striking cut. The front is curved down at the front with a sleek, tacked down collar that follows that curve. Silver metal buttons close it at the front and there are two little pockets on either side. The back is a black silk and the interior an ivory silk. It has some patina but is sound and still very smart.
Fully lined in a striped ivory silk and buttons to close. I suspect the buttons have been replaced at some point. There are some marks on the inside from improper storage and some vert slight areas of thinning to the back silk. Overall its amazing and for its age in tremendous condition for something just under 100 years old

I Have a Question
The Ballas Hess Company "was founded in the late 1800s as National Cloak & Suit and renamed National Bellas Hess around 1910, as folklore has it. It was located between Washington, Morton and Barrow streets in New York’s Greenwich Village. “We have no agents or branch stores,” it said in its 1920-21 fall-winter catalog. “We sell only direct from this catalog and anyone claiming to represent us is an imposter.” They were one of the big, early catalogue companies and some of the things they sold were quite expensive for the day.
This is a stunning antique jacket made out of a black silk taffeta. It is in remarkable condition for its age and feels surprisingly fresh and modern. It wraps and closes with a big loop and button at one side. The collar is large and folds over dramatically at the front and has an almost bibbed feel at the back of the neck. The skirt under the waist flares out quite dramatically and when you cinch the waist in with a belt this sweeping flare is even more exaggerated. At each side is a curved pocket that is very beautiful. They are set onto the jacket so that they pouf out slightly and the tops drop and curve outwards for volume. I love the gathered tops of each of them that follow that gorgeous cured shape. The ends of each sleeve also have beautiful detailing with a curved shape to the edges that goes upwards at the back and silk covered buttons that run in a tightly spaced row down each cuff. It is just extraordinary. Excellent overall condition with a couple of small notes below.
Unlined and closed with the button at the side. The easy cut will fit a variety of sizes. The silk on the loop of that closure has shattered leaving an interesting striping effect as the cord underneath is exposed, its also slightly stretched so it unbuttons easily. I have left it as original but you could tighten it if this bothered you. You could easily move the button to get the fit exact where you want it. There are a couple of areas where the silk has thinned and if you hold it up to the light you can see through the fabric a bit. I photoed this doing just that. Please review the photos after the label shot. For something over 100 years old it is in remarkable and sound condition

I Have a Question
My photos come close but still cannot convey how special this top is. It looks so shockingly modern and fresh that it will literally blow you over when you see it in person. The workmanship is extraordinary. It was completely made by hand and the bead and metal thread embroidery work on it is amazing. Teeny tiny seed beads are hand applied to the collar, down the front and on each sleeve. Beads have also been used to make the decorative 'pocket' shapes at the front of each hip. The shape is perfectly twenties with a loose body that is brought in at each side of the hem by a series of silk covered buttons and loops. These fold the silk in under them so the bottom of the tunic is brought in to create the shape that you see. The bead work is placed to emphasize the silhouette and i love the mix of red, blue and gold glass seed beads used. Interspersed in the design is an embroidered metal thread that offers a subtle bit of texture to the top. If you love it in the pictures you will be extraordinarily happy when it arrives. It is in extremely good condition and has its Made in France tag and size tag intact and if someone told me it was a Chanel or the equivalent I would not be surprised. It is strong and wearable with care - it is after all almost 100 years old. A true work of art. Excellent condition.
Unlined and slip on to wear. Buttons at each side with a series of silk covered button and loops. Has it's original Made in France tag and its size 38 tag as shown. There is the slightest bit of thinning on one tiny spot under one arm. Please see the photo after the label photos. The loose fit will allow it to fit a range of sizes

I Have a Question
Vitaldi Babani founded the Babani atelier in Paris in 1894. Originally they imported art, furniture, embroideries, silks and exotic goods from China, Japan, India, and Turkey. By 1910 they were producing their own label garments. The designs were heavily inspired by the wares they were importing and they often incorporated some of the antique textiles that they were bringing into Paris. They were known for the exoticism of their designs and the heavy embroideries and high craft that was put int their garments. In 1928, Katherine Hepburn famously wore a white crushed velvet Babani dress with antique gold embroidery for her 1928 wedding to Ludlow Ogden Smith. This is a rare and wonderful dress by the House of Babani and it is remarkable in both its condition and its design.
The base of the dress is an inky black silk velvet that has the same weight and feel of the Fortuny's I have seen from this period. Which would not be a stretch given that the Babani company had a license to retail textiles and garments by the Venice-based designer. To have used some of those velvet's for their own label would not have been out of question. The shape is very loose and easy. It follows the tubular fashion of the day with the middle portion of the dress almost curving outwards a touch. On the body it looks tremendously modern and oversized. Even a small framed girl could wear this and just carry it off in a different way then someone closer to the garment's actual measuremnts. Onto the black velvet is an elaborate and intricate geometric design. This has been created by using thick gold metallic cording to create the outer edgings of the design. The inner parts of the design are then filled with a thinner gold thread. All of the thread has that feel of being made out of actual metal. This is an extraordinary opportunity to own a piece of rare fashion history from one of the most elusive of labels from this period. Excellent antique condition
The dress slips on and is fully lined in a fine black silk. It has no closures. All of the embroidery work is present and fully intact. I see some waviness to the velvet under the arms where it has been worn and slightly folded over time. There is perhaps an area or two where the pile of the velvet has gone into a slightly different direction but there are no true flaws overall. For a garment of this age and this rarity it is in excellent antique condition

I Have a Question
Dresses of this age are rarely 100% perfect and this one is starting to show some shattering to some areas of the finer, tissue silk underlays, and has several areas of tears in the netting around the sleeves and shoulders. Even so is still remarkable in how intact it still is even after all of these years. It is a wonderful example of the workmanship that was being done during this time period. It is also a rare example of a labeled piece from this time period when labels were just beginning to be added to pieces. Please make sure to read the full description and condition notes and review all photos
The dress is made from a fine black satin with an overlay of black net. The net has then been covered in a dense pattern made up of white glass beads and silver sequins in two shapes. This is suspended over the inner silk dress and attached through the waist. Through the sleeves and the upper shoulders the netting is not lined so you get a glimpse of skin through it. The sleeves are exquisite, falling from the shoulder in a swath of sheer netting with that same beading covering them. On the bodice we see the smallest hint of color with a pale green silk penal set under the layers. This color then peeks out as it wraps all the way around front to back. Over this it is then embroidered with gold metal thread and the result is divine. The beading and netting angle into towards the nipped in waist which is then defined by a wide velvet belt that is finished with a large flat bow at the back. The skirt falls to the floor from the waist, sweeping down to a trained finish at the back. The netting is set so that if fall over the skirt in two panels. One down the front and one down the back. Each of these has a complex and beautiful design hand worked onto them. The front panel is finished with a full ten inch long black silk velvet fringe. This moves as you do and is some of the finest, softest velvet I have ever felt. The dress is just extraordinary. It presents very well but does have some issues. Please read the full description below and review all photos before purchasing.
The inner bodice is cream tissue silk and the black silk satin portions are lined in a black silk. There is a wide band of fabric through the inner waist. The silk satin serves as the lining under the netting. The dress closes with a series of hook and eye, some of which may need replacing. There are extensive tears through the netting under the arms and along the shoulders. The netting around these areas is very fragile. I have photoed all of the areas affected. You could reinforce them but I have left the dress as found and all original. There is shattering to the green silk and again I have photoed it. On the interior there is minor separation/shattering along some of the seams. There may be other areas of weakness here and there as well but I don't see any readily apparent ones. All the areas affected can be seen after the label shot. The beads and sequins seem to be entirely present. The rest of the dress is remarkably sound. If this was perfect it would be priced at several thousand more. Even with these defects the dress is shockingly beautiful. It is after all over 100 years old.

I Have a Question
This wonderful dress would date to the late teens or perhaps the early 1920s. Dresses of this age are rarely 100% perfect and this one does have some small areas that are starting to show weakness, but overall is still very strong even after all of these years. It is a wonderful example of the workmanship that was being done during this time period.
The dress is made from a fine silk chiffon that has been covered in a dense pattern of glossy black jet tube and seed beads mixed with larger glass jet beads. The design is very extensive and is set over the entire surface of the dress. The execution of the design is very well done and it is quite beautiful. The bead work covers both the front and the back of the dress and the hand work involved would have taken hours and hours to finish. The dress is cut in a classic flapper tube shape with a high set neck and a long body with no defined waist. The silk chiffon top layer sits over an inner silk satin which is what has give the dress its stability and longevity. I love the romantic touches of the wispy bits of silk chiffon that finish each sleeve and care set to curve around the arm. Floating panels of chiffon sit on each hip and give the skirts a slight volume at the sides. Circled around the dropped waist is a heavily embellished belt that is made of large black glass beads that ends with a long tassel of beads hanging down one hip. This is then caught up and finished with a silk and velvet pink flower for a pretty pop of color against the black. It is incredibly beautiful and entirely made by hand. Excellent antique condition.
Lined with the inner silk satin dress under the chiffon overlay. The dress slips on to wear. The shoulders at the seams are starting to show signs of aging - please see the photos provided - you could reinforce them but I have left the dress as found and all original. There may be other areas of weakness here and there as well but I don't see any readily apparent ones. The bead and jet beads seem to be entirely present with perhaps the occasional one missing around the edge of the neck. The attached belt detail that wraps around the waist has no hook - I have twisted it in place for the photos. I think once the new owner gets it you should add a hook or secure it where it sits best on you. Some small areas of shattering on some of the inner silk petals of the flower. Even with these small defects the dress is remarkably sound and shockingly beautiful. It is almost 100 years old and is considered to be in museum quality condition.

I Have a Question
This coat is absolutely beautiful and that vivid color is such a rare find for this time period. The body of the coat is made out of a luxurious, bright pink silk brocade that has a golden toned silk cut velvet design to create that gorgeous pattern that you see. The texture and depth to the fabric that this creates is wonderful and the color is almost startling in its clarity. The coat slips on and drapes to perfection over you. It is made in that classic late teens, early 1920s evening coat style with a voluminous cocoon feeling coat. It has no closures and the front border comes up in a graceful curve and eventually meets the base of the soft rounded collar. The border that circles the hem and forms the from collar is mad of a solid fuchsia pink velvet. The same solid pink is used to finish each sleeve. Inside it is lined in a startling, contrasting royal purple silk. I love the little velvet covered rows of buttons that detail the base of the collar, run down the center back border and down each cuff. This detail is a strong nod to the Edwardian time frame just proceeding the date of this coat and it is lovely to see the two eras stylistically combined. The coat is cut loose and easy with a large, soft shawl collar. Each sleeve is cut wide through the upper part and then narrows softly as it nears its end. I love the beautiful draping created when the coat is on. This is a shape that would have been the height of fashion in the twenties and designers like Paul Poiret and Chanel were particularly adept at this silhouette. Though this piece is unlabelled it does have the feel of a couture piece. My photos do not do it justice and in real life the fabric has a luminescent quality to it that the camera does not pick up. In person it is even better. Excellent condition with some small notes below
Fully lined in purple silk. It slips on with no closures. The exterior fabric is strong and sound with only some wearing of the velvet plush on the upper collar and the tops of the decorative buttons to note. These add to its vintage feel and do not impact it structurally at all. The interior silk shows some shattering and shredding along the inside neckline and some minor areas along the shoulders. Please see the final two photos provided. It is a garment that is nearing 100 years old and should be treated with love and care when worn and stored. Hand finishes throughout. The easy cut will fit virtually any size.
Shoulders: no true defined seams
Sleeves: approx 21" from natural shoulder
Bust: to 31" flat across the inside back from side seam to side seam
The coat widens as it reaches the bottom hem so waist and hips are open
Length: 42" from neck to hem

I Have a Question
Assuit scarves were wildly popular in the 1920s. There was a craze for all things with an Egyptian slant thanks and these Assuit scarves were among the most prized things to get ones hands on. An Assuit scarf is made from a fine cotton mesh fabric that has tiny little squares of real silver hammered and folded into the mesh - in essence the metal is wrapped around the mesh to form that fantastic design that you see. The scarf is literally covered with these little silver squares. On this one the pattern has a strong Art Deco feel with large diamond shapes and geometrical patterns highlighted with tassels designs along the edge. These originate from the Assuit region of Egypt and have been produced since biblical times. You can still find them today but the original, antique and vintage ones are heavier and are completely hand done. It is a thing of beauty and a wonderful example of the level of craftsmanship and care put into garments during this time period.
The edges are hand rolled and stitched. There are areas of slight oxidation to the silver here and there were time has darkened the silver but I do not consider this a flaw as it is natural patina and adds to its appeal. I see a couple of minor storage marks here and there but again nothing that is out of the ordinary for a piece this age. I found one small break to the net.
94" x 26" and it weighs just over 1 pound

I Have a Question
This extraordinary 1920s flapper dress was completely made by hand and is very feminine and beautiful. It is a wonderful example of the level of craftsmanship being utilized during this time period. It has survived the passing of time exceedingly well with only some minor flaws. The base of the dress is made from a fine light cotton and it is this fabric choice that has allowed it to remain strong and sturdy over the years. The color is a pale dusty blue that was almost impossible to capture and in real life it has a prettier, more unique feel to it that I think is just lovely. Onto this is an intricate design made of glass tube and seed beads that covers every inch of the dress. The main portions of the blue have a dense sprinkling of little semi-transparent white tube beads. Rows pf raised pink and gold flowers flow down the dress on both sides and a band of gold bead work defines the waist. The skirt has more of those glass seed bead flowers scattered around the hem. The placement of each and every bead is by hand and it is amazing to think of the time it would have taken to create this extensive design. The combination of soft and romantic colors and the density of the beads is absolutely fantastic. I also took a shot of the dress laid out flat so you can see how the skirt is cut with extra fabric worked around each hip to give the skirt extra flare. Overall great antique condition with some notes below to review
The dress is unlined and slips over the head to wear with no closures. The fabric appears to be strong and is wearable with the care it would deserve to be worn with. It is not 100% perfect but still in wonderful antique condition. There are some areas where the beads on the main body are missing or dangling from a string. Because of the color of the dress and the color of the beads in these areas its actually not that noticeable. There is some faded discoloration from storage on the bodice. I have photoed the worst of the areas. Note that the shots before the photo of the dress laid out flat are the detail shots of the bead work, and the shots after the laid out dress photo is of of the flawed areas. You can see some of the discoloration in the other photos as well. Even with these defects the dress is remarkably sound and shockingly beautiful. It is almost 100 years old and is considered to be in museum quality condition.

I Have a Question
This gorgeous twenties dress combines a rich, golden tone ivory silk velvet with an inset panel of silk chiffon in the same rich color. The front panel where the silk chiffon is inlaid, has been heavily embellished with beads and faux pearls. The execution of the design is very well done and it is quite beautiful. I love the way the back panel of the dress is set so that it falls in one single long line. This is created by having the back set over the inner structure of the dress and simply hooking into place once on. The velvet then wraps around the body to the front with bead work at the waist holding the velvet perfectly in place. The hand work involved in the front design would have taken hours and hours to finish. There is a wide and elaborate band of beading at the center low waist and from that hang a long, double sided, multi strand beaded tassel. These drop right to the hem of the dress and create wonderful movement. Behind this, the silk chiffon has an elaborate, trailing design of little flowers. These are all hand done and made from glass beads, pearls and rhinestones. The dress is cut in a classic flapper tube shape with a long body with no defined waist. The silk velvet top layer sits over an inner dress that gives it some hidden structure, This inner dress is no longer perfect all along where it closes underneath the back panel but this cannot be seen at all once it is on. It could perhaps still be worn as is very carefully, or the inner part could be replaced, or even removed altogether. I love all the romantic touches and feel that this could potentially be a beautiful wedding piece for a girl looking for a more twenties feeling wedding dress. The exterior is in absolutely remarkable antique condition. It is incredibly beautiful and entirely made by hand. An amazing collector piece and beautiful example of the time period. It is far far better in person then how it photoed - more rich feeling and has a softer, more romantic feel in person as well. Excellent overall antique condition.
Has an elaborate inner dress comprised of silk netting, tissue silk and silk chiffon. The dress slips on to wear with no closures from the waist seam down. It has a series of snaps and hooks from the waist up. The fabric at the back of the inner bodice has deteriorated badly. I have taken a photo of it on the mannequin and if you turn the layers inside out its even more shredded on one inner layer then how this looks. That said it is very sound still as the netting is there and that is strong. The structure is all there. I see one small tear to the chiffon but it is stable and not readily apparent when in due to the placement and the many layers of chiffon. There is the occasional weak spot to the silk chiffon that lines the outer silk velvet but again the velvet itself is remarkably strong and stable. There may be other areas of weakness here and there as well but I don't see any readily apparent ones. The bead and jet beads seem to be entirely present with perhaps the occasional one missing in that front design. Even with these small defects the dress is remarkably sound and shockingly beautiful. It is almost 100 years old and is considered to be in museum quality condition.

I Have a Question
This coat is utterly amazing and a true work of art. The base is a luxurious gold toned silk velvet that drapes to perfection over you when you slip this wonderful coat on. It is made in that classic late teens, early 1920s evening coat style with a low slung button at one hip. The coat is cut to elegantly drape over the body when its worn closed. It is unlabeled but so exceedingly well done that it could perhaps be one of the great designers of that time period. The base is golden silk velvet that is incredibly soft to the touch. Inside is a matching silk that is bias cut and equally luxurious. Onto the silk velvet is an extensive, meticulously hand done and beaded design that runs all around the lower half of the coat and down each sleeve. The design combines tiny little, silver interior coated, glass tube beads, with white seed beads and prong set rhinestones. Each and every one of those are hand set and carefully worked into the design. As it nears the bottom hem and the edge of each sleeve, the design becomes denser and more elaborate. The back suggests a huge Art Deco fan, fully open and beautiful. My photos do not do it justice and the camera picks up the more grey tones in the beads, in person they have a softer feel with less contrast and it is just beautiful. The coat is cut loose and easy with a large, soft shawl collar. Each sleeve widens out at it nears its end and is cut on a angle at the wrist. This allows the outer side to drape down and over the hand and is so beautiful once on. I love the beautiful draping created when the coat is done up. This is a shape that would have been the height of fashion in the twenties and designers like Paul Poiret and Chanel were particularly adept at this silhouette. Though this piece is unlabelled it does have the feel of a couture piece. The large velvet covered button at the front, held by a loop of silk velvet, is the perfect finishing detail on this extraordinary piece. In person it is even better. The camera comes close but does not fully capture its beauty. Excellent, museum quality condition.
Fully lined in gold silk and closes at the front with the velvet button and loop on the outside and then it has interior ties on the inside. The fabric is wonderfully clean and strong. There are no real flaws to note other a tiny bit of darkening to the silk here and there and a small repair near the interior seam of the collar. The fabric is strong and wearable with no real flaws to note on the exterior. The interior is also excellent and I suspect it may have been changed at some point as it is very pristine. It is a garment that is nearing 100 year
