• This dress is from the Spring 2019 collection.
• It was made under the creative direction of Sarah Burton.
• At the time Sarah told Vogue that the collection was "about sisterhood, about women's milestones and rituals; birth, christening's, weddings, funerals. It's about being strong and emotional, but also saying it's OK to show your vulnerability; not having to put a brave face on it."
• It is a terrifically beautiful dress and the colour in particular is just phenomenal.
• The dress is made out of of a silk chiffon that has a slight texture running through it and then the chiffon is covered in huge oversized flower petals and flowers.
• The choice of chiffon gives the dress enough weight to hold the shape but it feels magically light once on.
  
• The sleeves are long and they are left unlined so that there is a touch of transparency through them. I love how they are gathered into the shoulder and are wide and full all the way down the arm. At the cuff there is a band in the same fabric and a little button. They pouf out above the wrist beautifully once on.
• The shoulders are soft and the neck falls in a dramatic deep view at the front. On either side of the bust the fabric has been gathered vertically into the shoulder and then down into the front waist. 
• At the back it repeats this vertical gathering into the centre of the back waist.
• The waist is seamed and detailed with an attached band that circles around you and ends in a beautiful soft bow at the front with a long trailing ties running down and over the front of the skirt.
• On either side of the waist there is an open cut out and once you see them, you realize how beautifully the vertical gatherings on the front and back have been set to highlight those cut outs.
• The open areas are set slightly back from the front so that they are truly at the sides. This makes them feel slightly subtle but at the same time when you do move in a way that they are exposed, that unexpected flash of bare skin is very sexy.
• The skirt falls to the floor from there and has an incredible amount of silk chiffon in it. I love how the width of the skirt flares out and it is very full by the time it reaches the floor. All of those yards of fabric gives you beautiful movement when you move.
• It is truly an extraordinary piece from the Sarah Burton era.
• The dress is lined in a pink silk and it closes with a hidden set back zipper. Each cuff closes with a button and loop. It still has its red loop tag that hang tag would have been attached to and was never worn.

• The twin of this dress was presented as Look 52 for the Pre-Fall 2017 Alexander McQueen collection.
• It was made under the creative direction of Sarah Burton
• I love that we not only can see it on from the presentation photos but it was also seen on Jessica for the 70th Festival de Cannes red carpet. It is incredible on the body. I think this is one of my favourites from Sarah's time at the label.
• The dress combines a inky black velvet bodice with a sheer silk chiffon skirt finished with a velvet hem. It has a heavy application of embroidery on the entire bodice and it is absolutely fabulous.
• The bodice is strapless and is cut to follow the curves of the body to past the hips. Internal structure is created with a built-in inner corset to hold the dress perfectly in place.
• The waist nips in and then it curves back out and over the hips. The curb over the hips is slightly exaggerated and there is inner padding inside the hips to help hold the shape. This slight exaggeration in shape feels perfectly and quintessentially McQueen.
• The velvet of the bodice is just long enough to cover you and then the skirt flares out from there all the way to the hem. 
• The skirt is done in a sheer black silk chiffon that is completely cut on the bias. This gives it incredible movement around you as you move.
• Where the skirt attaches into the bodice, it is cut on a curving line all the way around you. This gives it the suggestion and nod to the shape of a 1950s full body corset. It is very sexy.
• A wide band of the same black velvet circle circles around the hem. There is an incredible amount of fabric in the lower skirt and the bit of extra weight created by the velvet, anchors the dress and helps to hold the shape that you see. 
• The entire bodice is covered in the most beautiful embroidery that has been applied on top of the velvet. The contrast between the pop of colour of the embroidery and the inky black backdrop is fantastic.
• The embroidery features stunning birds and flowers that curve and wrap around the bodice on both the front, sides and back. Interspersed between the embroidery are tiny coiled metallic metal beads and prong set rhinestones. It is extremely decadent and luxurious.
• The dress is fully lined in a black silk with a built-in boned and cupped corset that is made from a combination of black net and silk. The inner corset closes with its own back zipper and then the dress has a hidden set zipper over that. I see a slight stress mark and a couple of tiny very thin vertical pulls on the silk chiffon of the skirt. These are very minor but noted for accuracy. Please see the photos after the label shot. It otherwise appears to have been worn very little if at all.

• The twin of this dress walked the Spring 2009 Alexander McQueen runway for Look 24.
• It was made under the creative direction of Alexander McQueen.
• The program notes told the audience of the Spring 2009 runway show that Mcqueen had been thinking of Charles Darwin's theory of the survival of the fittest and 'the deleterious results of industrialization on the natural world'.
• The show was title 'Natural Dis-tinctions, Un-Natural Selection' and the McQueen book notes that 'the cat walk was filled with antique taxidermy, including an elephant giraffe tagger zebra and polar bear, in an art space that was formally of Paris morgue.'
• The twin of the dress was a part of the second portion of the show that was meant to 'continue to draw inspiration from natural forms, flowers, crystals and minerals, but here they were engineer with a hard as an enhanced to convey the synthetic qualities associated with modernity and human touch. Prints were angular and invoked crushed crystal, metallic structures such as the Eiffel tower and a granite mountain that was borrowed from a Dan Holdsworth triptych.'
• This collection was noted as being one of his most commercial to date during this time period and these print pieces especially had instant appeal. This is a very recognizable piece that can instantly  identify as being a McQueen.
• The dress is made out of an unusual fabric that is almost like a neoprene in the way it looks and feels and yet it is not a true neoprene. It is lighter and thinner with just enough weight to it to hold the shape but without it feeling restrictive on the body.
• The shape is built into the dress beginning at the shoulders. Each is lightly padded so that they sit up on top of the shoulders.
• It skims over the bust, nips in at the waist and then curves out at the hips. Even when laying flat you can see the shape built into the dress.
• At the neckline there is a keyhole that has a nude netting in behind it.
• The seams at the hip curve in and over the waist to just under the bust. This precise seaming and cut are all done to give that exact shape that he wished the piece to have.
• When styled on the runway with the plastered hair around the face it had an almost alien feel to it that was fantastic.
• It is an extraordinary piece of Alexander McQueen history.
• The dress is fully lined in a ivory tissue silk and it closes at the back with a hidden set zipper. It appears to have been worn very little if at all.

• This gown dates to the 2010-2011 season.
• It was made (or completed) under the creative direction of Sarah Burton.
• The dress certainly would have been released when Sarah had taken over the reins of McQueen. The date of the hang tag does have it falling right in that window where Alexander could have had a hand in its design and then by its release it would have been under Sarah's era. It is a phenomenal example of how beautiful that the McQueen aesthetic can be. 
• The dress combines an ivory silk for the exterior and then the skirt of the inner dress underneath has been densely embroidered. It is a beautiful combination.
• The bodice is strapless and there is internal structure to hold it in place around the body including a cupped inner bust and boned hidden inner corset. The silk on the exterior has been placed over the bodice in flat pleats that are set on a slight angle and then open up into the skirt.
• The inner skirt is made from an added panel that has been embroidered in a soft pastel palette with just a hint of a metallic feel to it. It depicts flowers in soft golden taupe with pale blue and greens.
• The outer skirt curves up and around that inner panel and there is padding set into each hip to hold the shape.
• The skirt is draped over the padding of the hip and curves down to the floor to become an extended train at the back.
• At the centre of the back there is a wide folded panel of silk that is set vertically. It snaps into place over the back zipper and then extends outwards to become part of the skirt. All of the seaming is hidden underneath so the illusion of the panel simply flowing down into the skirt is perfectly maintained.
• The workmanship is exquisite and shows the extreme high tailoring that the McQueen label is known for. This is a very rare piece and would have been made in limited quantities.
• The dress is fully lined in a matching ivory silk with a full built-in corset that extends to the top of the hips. There are wired cups in the bodice and it has hidden boning throughout. There is hidden padding through the hip as described above. The panel at the back snaps into place with silk covered snaps and then the dress closes with a hidden set zipper under that. The inner corset closes with its own zipper. I see some minor grubbiness at the hem but the dress is new with tags and was never worn.

• This is an outstanding production dress from the Fall 2010 collection. 
• It was made under the creative direction of Alexander McQueen.
• At first glance it feels very much in line with what he was doing for 2007 with his castle /fairy prints. For this collection he visited upon graphic black and grey-scale prints once again. We did find a photo from the 2010 look book that shows a shorter similar version of the dress. Just to give you an idea of how the top especially will fit once on the body.
• The dress is made out of a beautifully weighted silk that he loved to use because it gave him the drape and fluidity that he wanted his pieces to have.
• The shoulders of the dress are padded with thicker rounded pads hidden inside. Falling from there and extending around to the back is a beautiful caped panel that drapes over the top of your arms and then folds up and under itself to create the draping around and down the back. He used a double layer of the silk for this panel so that when you move you see the pattern underneath. It is these exacting small details that always make a McQueen piece stand out.
• The front neck line is set in a draping cowl that sits over an inner V. The dress skims over the bust and waist and then widens out to curve over the hips.
• Yards and yards of fabric have been used to construct the skirt. It is set into the body of the dress on a curving seam that is beautiful. He often use these curving and angled seams that are throwback to Couture pieces of the 1920s and 30s and here he has used it beautifully. The silk in the skirt is all cut on the bias. The back trails out longer behind you and all of this adds up to spectacular movement around you when you move.
• This is a truly outstanding McQueen dress.
• The dress is fully lined in a black silk and closes with a hidden set partial mid-set zipper at the back whose placement is again a nod to the Couture pieces of the 20s and 30s. The shoulders are padded. It appears to have been worn very little if at all

All items are thoroughly checked over before shipping. Unless noted everything in our shop has been professionally cleaned. All sales are final. Overseas clients will be emailed to obtain agreement to our final sales policy before the order is shipped as per our return policy.
