This dress is one of the prettiest Oscar de la Renta pieces I have had in the shop. It is a bit unusual in that it is made from a light cotton fabric instead of one of his usual silks or heavier fabrics. The fabric choice gives it a light and easy feel and adds to the sweetness that the dress has. There are yards and yards of a the cotton used to make up all the tiers and ruffles. The bodice is cut into a V at the front and this same V is done at the back as well. A ruffled panel sits on each shoulder to softly fall and flutter over the very top of the arm. It then follows the edge of the neck line at the back and the front. The waist is cinched in and the original matching fabric sash that comes with the dress can be wrapped and tied around it to add more definition. The skirt fall to the floor from under there and it is amazing. It is made with four full tiers of fabric that are attached to the inner skirt. Each tier gets fuller as they near the hem. When you move it has beautiful movement with you. The fabric itself is the perfect finishing detail. It is a soft red with a tiny white and green floral print scattered over the entire surface. I love it. Excellent condition.

The dress is lined in the same fabric through the bodice. The base skirt acts as the lining under the tiers. It closes with a side painted nylon and metal zipper. Original fabric sash belt. The zipper can stick a tiny bit at the waist

Treacy Lowe pieces are always a favorite to find. Kathy Lowe Howden launched the label in partnership with her husband in 1971 and quickly became known for her maxi dresses and prints. She did the most amazing caftans and dresses that really reflect the time period. She was a designer that designed her around the fabric she chose and many were custom done just for her. The vast majority of her fabrics were made to her specification in India. So when you find one of her pieces they are not just special because they are vintage, but also because of the small runs of fabric that she used. Just seeing and feeling these hand made fabric from this time period is a special treat.

This caftan dress is gorgeous. The cut is loose and easy and it is incredibly easy to wear. It is made out of a soft cotton that has was made and printed in India. The design is beautiful. Little rows of flowers run vertically down the fabric. The print combines two widths, a thinner one that is white based and a second wider one that has a soft blue base. If you look carefully at the photos you will see that for the bodice the the thinner strips have been carefully pieced together and then they are set so that the open out into the wide blue strips. This opening up of the fabric is what give the skirt its fullness. It has a low notched neckline that has a sweet little tie about half way up. Running across the top of each shoulder is a row of hand made tassels that pull from the colors in the print. Each tassel is suspended from the shoulder and finished with a matching colored bead. The sleeves are full and wide. It is meant to be worn without a belt but you could easily cinch in the waist with a modern belt if you wanted to add more shape. Excellent condition.

The dress is made from a black bias cut jersey that once on, molds to the body with an almost spiral dress feel. Inset into the jersey are semi-transparent panels made out of a black netting. These are finished with rows of glossy black tube and seed beads. They are set to curve down and around the body to emphasize the natural curves that you have. One sleeve is made out of the netting and this extends over the shoulder and over one side of the bodice at the front. At the back it dips down to follow along one side of the very low V that is there, and then extends over the lower part of the back to wrap around the opposite hip and curve down the full length of the skirt. The see through quality of the netting make it feel very scandalous. Even with nude undergarments it would definitely warrant an extra look once it is on the body. It is killer on and I have recently seen one of these priced considerably higher then what I have it priced at. Great overall condition with a note below

Holly Harp opened a shop LA in the late 1960s and created custom clothing under the Holly's Harp label. She tended to create her clothing out of a hodge-podge of new and old materials. In the beginning she favored things like feathers and fringe but her aesthetic became more 'grown up' and glamorous as her career progressed and she started to ficus more on jerseys and draping. She was an avid thrifter and you can often see the influence of earlier decades in her work.

This is an amazing set that is made from a silk jersey in a rich jewel toned deep wine burgundy. It is two pieces. A pair of loose and easy pants and an over dress that you just slip on over your head to wear. The pants are have a partially elastic waist and then are loose and generously cut through the hips. From there they taper down to the ankles. They are cut so that you can wear them loose and long, or pull them up around the calves and create a poufed harem pant feel. By changing the way you wear the pants you get a whole different feel of the outfit. The dress that goes over these has a loose and easy cut that has an almost cape like feel to it. It is cut angled up higher at each side and then ends in a point at the side. The edges are all finished with a gold piping that pops off the burgundy. The neckline is finished with a twisted piping of the same jersey that is the wrapped and secured with the same gold. This subtle pop of gold is wonderful. It is meant to be loose and easy but you could also add a long tie belt in gold for some shape and it would look incredible. If you are brave you could probably wear the top dress on its own. This is a set that really transforms on an actual body and is even better when on am moving. Being two pieces means you will be able to endlessly mix and match it with other pieces too. It present as excellent condition but has a couple of minor things noted below

Both pieces are unlined. The pants slip on with elastic at the back and the top slips over the head and ties at the back of the neck. You could wear the V part and tie at the front as well. Tagged a medium but the pant waist is cut generously. There are a series of tiny repairs to the top on the back longer side. You don't see these once on at all because of the drape. The waist band is very wide. There is elastic at the back only and it looks like the inner band was repaired at come point. If would be easy to bring the waist measurement in if needed. The loose and easy cut should work on a range of sizes

This is a gorgeous little YSL dress form the 1983 resort collection that has a fun and exotic vibe to it. The dress is made from a crisp cotton that has enough weight and structure to it to perfectly fall into the line that Yves desired it to have. It has a nod to the Hawaiian dresses of the forties in its color and cut. I love the bold purplish-fuchsia color that is combined with a soft grey and a charcoal to make up the abstract print that covers the dress. The shape is soft and cut to skim over the body. The dress is suspended from wide straps that curve around each shoulder. The bust is more fitted and gathered for fullness. and shaping. The skirt is a faux wrap that overlaps over itself along the side with the bow, So when you walk or sit it will open a bit to show some leg. On the one hip is a large half bow that adds amazing shape and detailing. It is amazing on the body. It appears to have never been worn, or worn very little. Excellent condition

There is nothing like a vintage Pucci and his cotton pieces that were meant for the beach and resort wear are among my absolute favorites. This fabulous little dress instantly makes you think of far off tropical luxury, with lazy days spent near the ocean. It is superbly simple in cut, allowing the beauty of his signature print to take center stage. The colors effortlessly mixes bright pastels that are highlighted with the pops of off-white from the base fabric. The large curved design is edged in a fine black line and the fabric is signed throughout with that famous Emilio Pucci signature. It is made of a thicker twill weight cotton and zips down the front with the buttons hidden under that front border. You can easily wear it on its own as a mini dress, or even layered over other pieces as more of a tunic. This dress has been worn and loved. Great overall condition with a couple of very minor notes below

Unlined and closes at the front with a painted metal zipper. There is a touch of softness the color overall and there are some areas where the off-white has yellowed slightly at the upper back, near one side, and there is a mark at the front near the bottom. The seam below the zipper has been opened at some pint and I have left it as is. It looks great as is or could be closed again easily. Please review the photos after the label shot. These are all minor, they just give the dress a sense of overall patina.

The Givenchy label did a series of chic separates around this time period and they are amazing when worn together or you could mix and match the pieces with your existing wardrobe. They were what the cool girls wore during the day and were fast and easy dressing. This look is very much back in Vogue and I spotted some very similar cut sets done by Gucci this past year. You can easily imagine Audrey Hepburn wearing this look.

This original vintage version is made from a medium, fine wool knit jersey. The pants are are cut with a flat, zippered front and the pants are ling and lean and have a fabulous flare out at the bottom. Their jersey knit fabric makes them a great year round pant. The sleeveless tunic top buttons down the front to just past the waist with big flat deep blue buttons. It is cut to skim over the body and ends just past the hip. I love the big top set pockets with the same button detailing that sit at the front. The stripes are a mix of a red and a deep navy and they pop against the taupe base. It is very chic and kind of cool. I love it. Excellent condition.

The pants are unlined and close with a front metal zipper. The top is lined in a taupe silk, slips on and buttons down the front. Each pocket is functional. Proper buttonholes and finished by hand. There are minor pinholes on the lining. Please see the photo after the label shot.

This set is not 100% perfect but it is radical in design and a very rare example of the work of Marion Foale and Sally Tuffin. This is really a collectors piece even though it is wearable. The designing duo were two young women determined to launch a label without having to have a male name on the masthead. The were known for their tailoring, lean cuts and outerwear. In 1962 Vogue featured one of their pieces and they audience expanded outside of London. Their work was featured regularly in the 'Young Ideas' section in British Vogue. The label shuttered in 1972 and pieces from the label are a very rare find.

This was a key label from the British Fashion movement and this is a rare example of their work from right before they stopped producing this label. I have included a photo of this same outfit from a British Vogue editorial on their work from the September 1971 issue. In that issue these sets were described as 'Pajama' sets meant to be worn outdoors. The first thing that strikes you about this is the feeling that it was made by hand. You can imagine the young pair of designers making this themselves in their studio. The pants have a flat front and zipper and are cut straight and wide all the way down to the hem. The top slips over the head. It is cut straight down through the body and the sleeves are the same. A large front pocket sits across the entire front and each side is notched. There is a small slit opening at the neck and it is set offside. The fabric is a padded red and off-white check that is top stitched into big quilted diamonds. The fabric gives it a certain structure so that it sits on the body in a very straight and angular way yet the fabric itself is still soft and pliable. Presents as great condition but please review the notes below.

Both pieces are unlined. The top slips on the wear and the pants have a front zipper. The fabric has a slight feeling of grubbiness overall and some of the quilting top-stitching has come off here and there. There is a discoloration at the seat of the pants. A tiny bit near the arms. A small notch of the fabric is missing near the waist band. Please see the photos after the label shot.

The wrap dresses and jumpsuits by Diane Von Furstenberg have become an iconic staple and this is one of the originals. Diane moved to New York with her husband, Prince Eduard Egon Von Furstenberg in 1969. She had design aspirations and in 1970 showed her first collection. It was in 1972 that she first debuted her now-iconic 'wrap dress' for the working woman, revolutionizing American women's apparel. By 1976, she had sold 5 million wrap dresses, landed covers of Newsweek and The Wall Street Journal and was a regular within the pages of Vogue. By then she had added the jumpsuit to her line up and they were a huge success.

Girls bought these jumpsuits in droves and wore them to travel, dance in, and pretty much everything else. You do see Diane's dress versions of these pieces from this time period pop up more often then the jumpsuits do, but I am always on the lookout for these as well. They are harder to find but worth the hunt. This one with its gorgeous floral print in soft pastels is wonderful. The print is screened onto a soft stretch jersey and the design covers the jumpsuit from head to toe. Parts of it almost feel painted on as there is a slight bit of texture to the print. It has long, lean lines and makes you look and feel supermodel tall in it. The top is cut in a halter style and it curves up and around the neck. This leaves the back completely open and bare. It has its original matching tie belt that you can tie around the waist to cinch it in more if you wish. The legs are cut extra wide straight and long so that when you stand still it feels like you are wearing a dress. It is only when you move or sit that you realize that it is legs. The hem of each leg is a full 50" around. The final result is one long, lean, supermodel silhouette. It appears to have never been worn. Excellent condition.

The jumpsuit is unlined, and buttons to close behind the neck and has a low set zip at the back. The fabric is a soft jersey that has an almost heavy T-shirt feeling finish to it. The fabric does have some stretch. It appears to have been worn very little if at all.

This Halston IV caftan is a made from a gold lurex lame. The simple, classic design makes it is an easy way to be instantly dressed up and still entirely comfortable. I have seen Rachel Zoe wear the twin of this one around LA and she just recently posted herself wearing hers again on her Instagram account. This is an incredible and glamorous staple piece that you can wear again and again.

I have had these in the shop in several solid colored jerseys in the past, but the lame ones are just that little bit extra special. They seem to have been made in two colors, a more true gold and a deep copper version like the last one I had in. This one is the more the true gold version. It is a dress that is so easy to wear. It can go from the beach, to entertaining at home with flats, to full on evening glamour. The caftan is cut deceptively simple with a slit front neck and a second slit that goes up the center seam at the front from the hem. The cut is loose and meant to skim over the body. The sleeves come out directly from the body of the caftan and then narrow down towards the wrist. The skirt flows to the floor and widens out as it reaches the hem. The waist is open and easy. If you wanted more definition you could easily add a belt to add shape. This is a wonderful piece with all the minimalist lines that we all love about Halston. Excellent condition with one small note below

I have had the peach version of this one shoulder dress by Bill Tice in the shop just recently and was super happy to find a black and gold one so soon. Versions of Tice's one shoulder pieces sit in the closet of countless celebrities like Rachel Zoe  & Nicole Richie (and my own!). This is one of those dresses that you know is going to work every time you put it on. Whenever I get my hands on these they fly out the door. It is insanely sexy with an easy to wear caftan feel that is suspended from one single shoulder. It is made of a liquid jersey that feels amazing on and has the added bonus of traveling very well. It is the kind of piece you can throw into your suit case and slip on with either flats or heels when you reach some far off destination and be perfectly ready to go. The inner dress is long and slim and this is topped by a wrapped looser overlay that is cut on a curving angle. The inner dress is seamed to just about the hip and then it is open from under there, with coverage provided by the wrapped overlay. This allows a bit of leg to show when you walk or sit. The single shoulder has a large knotted flower detail and both the flower and the neckline edging are accented by ribbons of gold lame. This one still has its original hang tag and was never worn. Excellent condition.

Unlined and slips on to wear. The easy fit should allows it to work on a variety of sizes. Has its original Marshal Fields hang tag and has never been worn. The fabric has a bit of stretch. The easy cut should allow it to fit a range of sizes.

Bob Bugnand opened launched his couture salon in Paris in 1954. His pieces were made to order from sketches and he had the capacity to produce only 50 original pieces a month at most. In 1958 he opened a custom, made-to-order salon in New York allowing clients to buy the Paris designs without having to travel overseas. During the summer of 1960, Bugnand was recognized with membership in the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne and opened his salon at 372 rue St. Honore in Paris. From 1962 - 1965, he collaborated with Sam Friedlander to launch a ready to wear line that stayed true to his couture roots and used high end finishes, giving us the exact window to date this within.

Both pieces of this pant set are made from a brightly printed floral patterned silk that has a solid blue silk trim at the hems and cuffs for contrast. The printed part of the design is completely covered in clear sequins that are hand set to lie flat and side by side across the surface of the fabric. These catch the light with every movement and really gives the design an extra dimension. The top has a simple cut to it and is shaped to follow the lines of the torso. It flares out from the waist to skim over the hips. That same flared shape also finishes the sleeves and the legs of the pants to give the entire set a beautiful balance and a slightly mod feel. The pants are cut with a flat front and sleek lines until they flare out at the hem. I love that you can wear it together as a set, or break the pieces up and pair them individually with other modern pieces from your wardrobe. Excellent condition

Both pieces are fully lined in white silk. The pants close with a side painted metal zipper and the top has a painted metal zipper that runs down the back. It appears to have been worn very little if at all.

This vintage Lanvin dress has a brilliant color and print combination on a crisp white base. The jersey fabric it is made of was considered one of the new 'miracle fabrics' of the day as they gave women the option to wash and wear and travel with pieces that needed little or no ironing once you arrived at your destination. Lanvin began producing pieces from these jerseys in the early 1970s to appeal to their younger, jet set clients. I love when I find great examples of these for this time period in the label's history. The dress has long sleeves that pouf out slightly above their buttoned cuffs. It buttons all the way up the front so you have the option of wearing it fully open and over something underneath. The collar is oversized and ends in long points that sit almost in top of the shoulders when the top few buttons are left undone. It falls in a straight line to the hem, widening out very gradually as it nears the bottom. This leave the waist loose and easy. You could easily add a modern belt if you wanted more shape. I love the brilliant, over-sized floral print that covers the dress and the incredible colors that have been used. The fabric is easy to care for and this is a great piece to travel with. Excellent condition.

This is a softer, more romantic feeling version of the dress that Naomi Campell wore  for the ad campaign that year and Christy Turlington wore in Elle UK. Theirs were fitted all the way down to the hem where this one flares out past the waist and is detailed with a large bow at the front. The fabric used is the same for both. This version is perhaps more wearable for most and a little more forgiving then the very fitted silhouette of the other.

The dress is gorgeous and the fabric itself is part of what makes it so fabulous. It is far lighter then what it looks like it should be. The top layer of fabric is a open work lace that is shot through with a metallic thread so that is has a touch of glitz. The pattern in the lace is then detailed with curving rows of glossy black sequins. The bodice and hem are finished with a silk tulle ruffle. I absolutely love this classic YSL touch and it gives the dress a flirty, girlie feel that it would not have without that finish. The dress falls from the shoulder from little straps and I think that if it fit you perfectly you could probably have the option of tucking these on and wearing it as a strapless pieces. The edge of the bodice curves and plunges. It nips in at the waist and there is a large silk satin black bow set at the center front. There is no waist seaming, it just curves in and then flares out for the skirt. Everything about the cut of the dress is done to highlight the curves of the body from the way the ruffles are set on the bust to the curved lines of the skirt as it swings out and away from the body. It is wonderful. Excellent condition

John Bates founded the Jean Varon label in 1959 and it became known for the futuristic designs that Bates created. By the late sixties and into the seventies his work tended more towards more floaty, feminine designs. Some of the very best pieces were made during this time period and his caftans and caftan dresses are particularly lovely.

This is one of those caftan dresses that he did so very well. This one is made from two layers of a beautifully printed chiffon. The print is a leaf and flower design that is set on a deep blue background. Layered onto that are a green and a taupe that make up the pretty design that you see. Everything about this piece feels pretty and romantic. The under dress is a long sheath that gradually widens as it reaches the hem. The printed chiffon on this layer flows over a solid lining to give it a touch of structure. Over that inner layer is a second panel of fabric that is set to flow down from the shoulders and floats over the interior dress. It ends in a point and falls cape-like over the arms. The neckline is rounded and under the top chiffon layer the inner dress is sleeveless. I love how you get this sense of depth from the pattern on each layer floating over each other. Excellent condition

Fully lined in a blue silky rayon and closes with a back metal and nylon zipper. The top layer ties at the back of the neck.

Geoffrey Beene was one of the great American fashion designers and he was recognized for both his artistic and technical skills. He launched his label in 1963 and a piece from his very first collection landed the cover of Vogue. A Coty award followed a year later and in 1984 the Council of Fashion Designers created the annual Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement award in honor of Beene's fashion legacy.

This is an incredible set by Beene that is made out of a feather light metallic silk lame. The color of the metallic fabric is a combination of a soft turquoise blue shot through with gold thread. The pattern this creates are a little series of squares and each one has a subtle leopard print worked into them. It is just amazing. Especially when you have it in hand and realize just how light and fine the fabric is. The set is made up of two pieces. The skirt is cinched in at the waist and has a pocket along one side. It widens out as it nears the hem and the lightness of the fabric makes it move wonderfully around you when you move. The matching top wraps around you to close, crossing at the front. I have tied it at the back but you could probably wrap it once more and tie it at the front if and ties at the back. On my dress form it ends up to be quite cropped and depending on how you tie it you can have to sit even higher up or slightly lower to close the gap a bit. Excellent condition

Both piece are unlined and the fabric is incredible. The skirt hooks to close at the waist and the top slips on and ties. You could move the hook on the skirt up or down a 1/2 inch or so in either direction and the top is adjustable with the tie. A pocket on the skirt where it hooks.

This dress is wonderful and shows the range of what Hanae Mori was capable of. The dress is simple and beautiful but still striking. It dates to the late 1970s, early 1980s and it is an absolute work of art. Hanae was the first woman of Japanese descent to have presented on the Paris and New York Runways and the first Asian woman to be admitted as an official Haute Couture house to La Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne. Her work is exceptional and plays a strong part of my own personal archives.

This Hanae Mori dress effortlessly combines her love of fabric and print. It is full length, easy to wear and  constructed from two layers of silk twill topped by a feather light silk chiffon. The base is a deep blue and then the print itself is made up of several shades of blue to highlight the design even more. The inner silk twill layer is lined in a blue silk and then topped by the silk chiffon layer that floats over that. Both layers are printed and there is a depth created by the effect of the two patterns layered over each other that is fantastic. The print depicts a pond scene with swirling waters, reeds and tiny flowers. The sleeves are long and left unlined with slits running up the inner seams that add to the airy and light feel they have. The nod to a caftan in the cut make it easy to wear and flattering to a variety of figures. Hanae's sense of color and line are impeccable and you can see that in this wonderful example of her work. I love the ankle length cut of the dress - it is the perfect length to allow a pretty shoe to peek forward. Excellent condition.

The dress is  made of two layers, the printed top silk chiffon layer, and a second silk twill layer that is lined in a deep blue silk lining. The sleeves are left unlined. It closes with a painted metal and nylon zipper on the inner dress. The outer layer of silk closes with a row of her signature tiny, silk covered snaps. The neckline is finished with a padded piping that extends and ties at the back. There is one tiny faint spot near the neckline. Hand finished.

This was Look 16 on the Burberry runway and was one of the chicest pieces of the Spring 2014 show. Its neutral feel worked perfectly over the soft pastels it was shown with. It is classic Burberry and very well made. The Prorsum line is the high end line for Burberry and this coat was over $5000 at full retail. It is new with all its original tags

This is one of those pieces you will reach for over and over because it will go with anything and will never go out of style. It has a simple and classic cut. Through the body it is loose and easy when you wear it open but with the belt you can cinch it in and create a sharp and curvy silhouette. It has no closures other then the belt. The cut is very simple with no true collar around the neck but the front folds over to give it a collar feel at the front. Large top set pockets sit on either side of the hip for detailing. The suede that has been used is ultra soft and supple. It is surprisingly light weight and moves very well while still retaining its intended shape. It appears to have never been worn. Excellent condition.

Unlined and closes with the matching belt. Tagged a size 40. The loose and easy cut should allow it to work on a variety of sizes. Has its original hangtag in the pocket

I have held this in my archives for several years now and I think that it is a stunning example of the fur pieces being produced at this point in Dior's history. I am no expert on furs but believe this it is mink. The color is a pale ivory with touches of a natural tint to it that is stunning in person. The fur is supple and soft and in very good condition. It is applied through the body of the coat in series of horizontal rows that become a design feature in themselves. In between the rows are bands of snake skin that contrast against the fur. The sleeves are a solid pelt with a large wide cuff defined with another snake inset above it. Each sleeve is cut straight and full and the collar is a classic notched wide collar. It is cut in an easy style that gradually widens out to a bit of a flared bottom. Pockets are hidden along the top of one of the snake insets on each hip. It has been properly stored and cared for and appears to have been worn very little if at all. There is one small issue to review below but is otherwise in excellent condition.

Fully lined in an ivory silky satin with velvet detailing on the inner front edges and has an attached tie inside. It has fur hooks at the front but I think they have been replaced at some point as the don't close 100%. If you wear your coats fully closed you will need to take this onto account. You could easily just wear this with a belt and wrap it. Slip pockets on each hip and one hidden along the inside edge at the front. I see no bald spots or shedding, the pelts are supple, soft and shiny. There is a break that goes right through the pelt of the of the fur under one of the snake insets at the back. It is fairly small and could be repaired from the back. Please see the photo after the label shot. Perhaps the faintest storage odor. For a vintage fur from such an important designer, I still rate this as near excellent. The fur is still supple and is stable with no signs of excessive shedding that would indicate that it is breaking down.

I have a small collection of historically important, key designer labelled vintage furs and fur trimmed pieces stored away in my archives that I will be slowly posting on the site over the next couple of years until I have none left. I will no longer be buying furs for the shop moving forward and have not purchased anything for several years now. I feel like times have changed and while there still is a place for vintage furs for some, including collectors and historians, many modern girls are choosing other options. Many of the pieces in my collection are representative of the designer during a set time period in history that was different then our modern outlook. I have decided that the best course to handle this controversial issue is to let the pieces I have go rather then sit in a cold storage unit. Fur coats are final sale.

This is a super easy set to wear and I love the ease it has once on due to the bias cut of the fabric. The silk is a rust and white stripe that is set on a diagonal to follow the bias cut of the silk. It has a little secondary floral pattern woven through it that gives it some added texture. The skirt is a simple pencil silhouette that falls to just below the knee. It does up along one side and I love the white piped finish at the hem. The top slips on and has a wide, straight cut neck. The sleeves come out from the sides with no seaming so have a soft slouchy feel to them. They each narrow in to the cuffs and are finished with that same white piping. It is very chic and easy to wear and the fabric is very light in weight. Great overall condition with a note below.

Both pieces are unlined. The top slips over the head to wear and has snaps along the seam near its hem. The skirt snaps and hooks to close at one side. One pockets on the skirt where it closes. You could move the hooks up or down probably up to an inch either way to adjust the waist.

This was obtained from a client who was a long term client of Norell and though it has lost its label it is a Norell. Of course provenance is everything so it is priced far lower then it would be with its label so its a steal.

The dress is chic and sophisticated. I think every collector of vintage cannot go long in collecting before a Norman Norell lands in thier closet. His dresses are cut with a master's hand and every line and seam is deliberately placed exactly where it should be. This particular dress is a classic silhouette and can be worn on its own or with something layered under it or over it. I know it is not as flashy as some pieces are in vintage, but it is beautifully made and the type of dress that is a solid basic for any closet. It is a sleeveless wool crepe shift dress in a deep chocolate. Don't be fooled by it's simplicity - it is seamed and constructed to couture levels and the finishes within it are superb. The front is suspended buy little straps and then it is cut in a chic sheath. At the back, it dips into a soft curve to leave an expanse of skin showing. This is a classic dress that will last you a lifetime and never go out of style. Excellent condition.

Fully lined in a matching brown silk that is entirely hand set. It closes with a hand set side metal zipper. At some point the hem was let down and the edge is finished with the ribbon he used on his inner seams. The inside lining is cut and not attached/finished around the inner edges. It could be worn as is or shortened to your desired length.

Jean Muir is renowned for her wonderfully cut clothing and her clothes often played on the cuts and styles of the 1940s. When researching her work I found a photo from 1972 that ran in British Vogue of a similar dress in leather. This one was not made to with a belt but you could easily add a belt to get that look. It is a stunning dress and the reference photo gives you a better idea of how great this is on the body. Each of her dresses were made one at a time and by one single person start to finish. This singular attention shows in the high quality of her garments.

This is a stunning example of Jean Muir's work in prints. She definitely tended towards solid colored jerseys so whenever I find one of her prints it's especially thrilling. It is so chic in person. Her dresses really do best with an actual body under them to fully show off the cut and drape. This dress is made from a silk with a satin finish. Onto the silk is screened that wonderful abstract print in a black, rust, yellow and white. The fabric choice allows it to have a beautiful drape and movement. It is  pin tucked on either side of the buttons on the bodice for a pretty detailing. More pin tucking sits at the top of each shoulder. The buttons are covered in the same fabric and these run to the waist. The dress opens fully to the hem and is closed with a series of snaps and hooks hidden down the front of the skirt. The skirt flares out wonderfully and is set into the easy cut waist in a series of soft pleats. Each sleeve is cut very full and wide. A wide ribbon finish circles each sleeve and around the bottom hem.  It presents as excellent condition but does have some minor flaws to review below.

Fully lined in a white silk through the upper bodice and the sleeves and skirt are unlined. It closes with buttons down the front and hook and eye and snaps below the waist. One missing buttons and there are some very faint marks on the fabric near that missing button. The inner lining shows some discoloration and tearing. Please see the photos after the label shot. The outer fabric is strong and wearable.

This coat is instantly recognizable as being by Bonnie Cashin and a version of it is actually held in the Metropolitan Museum of Arts collection. I also found a ad for the coat that ran in both the New Yorker and Vogue for the September issue. Cashin launched her label in 1952 after a successful career in costume design. She was a highly influential innovator who created loose-fitting sportswear and light, layered clothing. In 1972 she was inducted into the Coty American Fashion Critics Hall of Fame and her work continues to be regarded as an important part of fashion history

This is a rare opportunity to own one of her iconic pieces. The coat is a combination of a natural colored suede and a fox. The suede is used for the rounded shoulders and upper bodice all the way around to the back and the wide cut sleeves. It is cut to be more fitted around the shoulders and then flares out to have a ton of volume through the body and to the hem. The fur is used as a neat round collar to frame the neck and then covers the lower portion of the coat. The inside is lined a matching colored jersey which in itself is a very unusual fabric choice. I love that there are hidden pockets along the inset front seams. It closes with simple suede ties at the neck and where the fur starts under the suede part. Excellent condition with a small note below.

Fully lined in jersey and loosely closes with the ties at the front. The coat is in as found condition and does have a slight vintage odor. The pelts are still supple and glossy. There is a bit of grubbiness to the suede here and there and some natural patina from normal wear. There are some small pinholes scattered here and there on the lining. The open cut should allow it to fit a variety of sizes

This dress is a wonderful example of her range as a designer. It also showcases her extraordinary and meticulous attention to detail. The inner construction on this one is partially finished to Haute Couture standards and I have included a photo of the hand finished inner seams. I think that it may have been a special order placed through Saks Fifth Avenue based on the level of detail on the inner finishes. The dress is as light as a feather to wear because of the silk chiffon she has chosen to make it out of. The silk was then woven through with a gold lame thread that creates that beautiful design of huge stylized flowers that cover the dress entirely. The gold gives the dress its impact and the lightness of the silk chiffon is easy to wear. The bodice is suspended from the shoulders and has an almost chemise feel to it with the straps set slightly inwards. It skims down and over the body to the waist. The back closes with a series of silk covered snaps and her signature tiny snaps. Below this the skirt falls to the floor in two tiers of chiffon layered over each other for just a touch of fullness. It is astonishingly beautiful. Even more beautiful in person and the photos cannot convey the quality and feel of the high grade silk and the lightness of the dress when on. Excellent condition

I just sold the twin of this a couple weeks ago and buy some strange twist another came in that is slightly longer then the other one was. The dress is a wonderful and easy to wear caftan dress by the Young Innocents by Arpeja label. Arpeja was based out of California. They had several lines that were very on trend and targeted towards a more youthful audience. The Young Innocents label launched in 1964 and lasted into the early 1970s. They were an early proponent of sourcing fabric that were from organically grown sources.

This caftan dress is bright and colorful and so very pretty with its mix of a true bright blue and a soft apple red. It has an almost smock feel to its construction The sleeves are exceptionally wide and the effect once on a real person is wonderful. The neckline is cut into a V at the front and trimmed with a wide border of the red floral fabric. This same red is used for the attached ties that you can use to cinch it in at the waist. Under that the skirt falls to the floor, gently widening as it nears the hem. More red edges each wide sleeve and then is used in a wide band around the hem. It is a made out of cotton so it is very easy to care for. I love the combination of the red and blue and the big floral print that covers both colors. The fabric also has an unusual 'puffed' ribbon effect running through it that adds an extra layer of texture. The dress is magical. Excellent condition

Closes with a back zipper and the attached ties will allow you to cinch in the waist as much as you wish. Easy to care for and can be machine or hand washed. The loose and easy cut should work on a variety of sizes.

In 1962 Capucci opened his first atelier in Paris and took the fashion world by storm. In 1968 he went back to his native Rome and opened his atelier there. By 1972 his work was presented in a museum in Rome at the Museum of Etruscan Art. A remarkable achievement for a living designer. He exhibited again in 1990 and in 2005 he founded the Roberto Capucci Foundation to preserve his numerous drawing and archives. His pieces tend to be highly architectural and the ones you see in exhibits border on not being wearable, so it is a treat to find a beautiful and highly wearable example of his work.

From the late 1970s comes this fabulous little deep blue chiffon dress that is cut to flow and drape over the body. The neck is cut wide to give a glimpse of the upper shoulders and the sleeves flow from there in an expanse of volume and fullness to above the buttoned wrist. The skirt has yards and yards of chiffon and flows to the floor in a pretty, light expanse of fabric. The back and bodice are especially pretty with their pin tuck lattice design that is detailed with a little clear beads where each pin tuck crosses over the other. It is lovely and a rare example of a hard to find designers work. Excellent condition

Fully lined except for the sleeves and closes with a back zipper on the interior fabric and snaps on the outer. Each cuff closes with a hidden snap under a silk covered button detail. Hand finished inside and hand applied beads.

Zandra Rhodes is one of my favorite designers and it is always a treat to have one of her pieces for you. This print matches pieces from the Spring 1988 collection entitles the 'Fantastic Flower Garden' which featured little flowers set within curved lines in the backdrop and little crosses on the petals of the flowers.

This is a very wearable, gorgeous piece that can go for a fancier day piece to cocktail wear with ease. The fabric is her signature hand painted silk chiffon and this one is done in a flattering deep red with a charcoal print. This lies over a silk satin interior that feels wonderful when on the body. The dress has an asymmetrical hem and panels of fabric that are sewn on in tiers and on the bias to create a floating feel around you. They are set like a softer version of a handkerchief hem. This gives the dress a lot of movement. It is cut to skim over the body with a loose and easy waist and then the skirt flares out. The bodice has just a touch of detailing to highlight some of the floral prints with hand applied sequin paillettes and pretty faux pearls. The sleeves are left unlined and have that same panelled floating technique used on hem of the skirt so that they are light and airy feeling as well. It comes with a matching extra long sash that can be tied around the waist like I have done or you can wrap it around the neck or even tie it like a turban around you head. It is lovely and highly collectible. Excellent condition

The dress is fully lined in red, light silk satin and it closes with a back zipper. The bead and sequin work detailing are hand applied. Comes with a long wide sash and there are several pieces of matching fabric that came with it. This dress may have been a custom order and I think these are fabric swatches sent in advance of the actual making of the dress. It looks to have been worn very little if at all.

This is likely the early work of Elinor Simmons before her name went on the labels. She designed for the Malcolm Starr label from the early 1960s to 1972. You can see her influence in this classic feeling Malcolm Starr dress with its almost sculptural lines and addition of the rhinestone embellishments on the bodice.

At fist glance the fabric used almost looks quilted, but upon closer inspection you realize that the little quilting lines are pressed directly into the fabric. This gives the dress an instant shot of added texture that is very pretty. The fabric seems to be a cotton or cotton mix. This allows it holds the shape and the colour beautifully. The bodice skims over the torso with darling little capped sleeves. The waist line is defined with a seam and set just a touch higher then the natural waist for a hint of an empire feel. The neck is high with a notched front. The skirt neatly falls from the waist and gradually widens out to just about the knee or slightly under. The fabric is a pretty pinky red that has a bit of a cherry feel to it in person. I love the little sprays of flowers that cover the surface. The centres of the flowers are finished with little coloured rhinestones and this gives the dress a touch of glamour. The colours used are wonderful and the dress is gorgeous. I have held this in my archives for several years now and I think that it is a stunning example of the fur pieces being produced at this point in Gucci's history. It is made out of a sheepskin that has been brushed out so that is is soft and fluffy. The color is a combination of creamy ivory mixed with a pale taupe that has an almost pink cast to it in some areas. It is a little bit paler in real life then how it photoed and even better. The fur is very soft and very fluffy. The pelts are laid out vertically with bands of suede between them that run down the inside of each sleeve and through the body of the coat. It is cut in a classic swing style with a flared bottom. Big brass and leather buckles run down the front and pockets sit along the horizontal row on each hip. The sleeves are cut straight and full and the collar is also big and full. It is a stunning choice for the girl who believes that vintage fur is a sustainable choice. Fully lined in a taupe silk that is embroidered with the Gucci logo throughout. It closes with the buckles down the front. Pockets on each hip. I see no bald spots or shedding, the pelts are supple and soft. There is slight wear at some of the common points - edges of the sleeves. the inner edges pf the collar and hem, but it is very minor. I have a small collection of historically important, key designer labelled vintage furs and fur trimmed pieces stored away in my archives that I will be slowly posting on the site over the next couple of years until I have none left. I will no longer be buying furs for the shop moving forward and have not purchased anything for several years now. I feel like times have changed and while there still is a place for vintage furs for some, including collectors and historians, many modern girls are choosing other options. Many of the pieces in my collection are representative of the designer during a set time period in history that was different then our modern outlook. I have decided that the best course to handle this controversial issue is to let the pieces I have go rather then sit in a cold storage unit. Fur coats are final sale.

Dan Werle launched his label just after the end of World War II and by the 1950s was dressing Hollywood starlets and his designs made regular appearances on Loretta Young for her TV show 'The Loretta Young Show' that ran from 1953 to 1961. She often launched her show wearing one of his designs and it was that publicity that made his label thrive.  

This is an absolute stunning dress from the label that mixes a textured organza with medallions of cotton lace and plays with transparency. The sleeves and skirt are made from a ripple textured organza that has just enough weight and structure to it to hold the lovely fullness that you see in the sleeves and the skirt. This is mixed with a embroidered cotton that is formed into round discs that are then attached and laid out flat beside each other to cover the entire front bodice. I love how this is angled up towards the neck to give a touch of transparency over the shoulders. This bodice treatment is backed in a nude chiffon so from a distance you have the illusion that you are here between the discs. A thick band of this same technique is also used at the hem. The cut is simple but dramatic and fully covers the body. The neck is high and the sleeves are long and cut with a huge pouf balloon sleeve finish above the wrists. The skirt is quite full and it flows to the floor in a lovely cascade of fabric. This sits over an inner skirt which gives the fabric on the skirt a touch of depth. At the back the dress has a single layer of the organza and once it closes at the beck of the neck you are left with a wide bare expanse of skin. It is chic but very sexy at the same time. This is the more glamorous version of the hostess dress and it is wonderful. Excellent condition.

The skirt is fully lined in a black opaque crepe and the front of the bodice is backed in a nuder silk. The sleeves and back are left unlined. It closes with a back painted metal and nylon zipper and hidden snaps at the back of the neck. Each sleeve has elastic at its ends.

In its heyday the Gene Shelly of California label was highly sought after. The label was doing some of the best of the early sequinned vintage pieces that you could find anywhere on the planet. All of the sequin work that covers this dress was done by hand in Hong Kong on American manufactured fabric. The company would send the fabric to be hand sequinned and beaded. After that was done the fabric would be sent back to California where the dresses were made. At the time, Hong Kong was doing the best sequin and bead work in the world outside of the specialty ateliers in Paris. This dress is not perfect but it is still very beautiful and with a little work it could be perfect again. 

This dress is especially interesting because it bears many similarities to the one I sold before that ended up being the twin of one worn by Diana Ross and The Supremes. This dress has a very similar layout of the beads and sequins but it has been done on a silk based rather then a knit. This base of this one is a beautiful pale ice blue that perfectly sets off the silver sequins that are applied to it. There are hundreds of silver sequins that are laid out flat onto the silk from shoulder to hem. Each sequin has been meticulously applied by hand into its set place. Every inch of the fabric is covered with sequins and the dress glimmers in even the lowest of light. Set in among the silver sequins are big faceted pink and coral paste crystals. These circle the neckline like a built in piece of jewellery. There is also wide band of them applied around the lower skirt. Each crystal has been is hand sewn into place and they are large enough that they each have a 3D effect. Tiny faux pearls and seed beads outline them. Around the neck line and sleeves are coral beads and faux pearls. The dimension and texture created from the result of all of this hand work is wonderful. The dress itself is immensely flattering with its figure hugging shape and all of the seams in it are set vertically to give the wearer a beautiful long line. The base dress is in excellent condition but there are sequins missing. Please review the condition notes below.

The base is an icy blue silk  and the dress closes with a painted metal zipper at the back. The sequins and embellishments are all applied by hand.There are areas of missing sequins. Most notably across the upper shoulders and down the top of the cap sleeves. Some other areas in the body of the dress. These could be filled in with modern silver sequins. Or it could be worn as is. This is a very pretty little dress from a little label called Mannequin. The sleeves and skirt are made from a pale gold chiffon organza that has little dots woven through it in a gold lurex thread that has been applied to the organza in a series of circles that cover the fabric in long rows. This is mixed with a fine light weight gold lurex knit that has been used for the front and back of the bodice. The gold catches the light beautifully and really adds detailing to the piece. The cut is simple but dramatic and fully covers the body. The neck is high and the sleeves are long and cut with a pouf balloon sleeve finish above the cuffed wrists. The skirt is quite full and it flows to the floor in a lovely cascade of fabric. This sits over an inner skirt which gives the pattern on the skirt a touch of depth. The hem of the skirt is finished with a wide banding of gold patterning and this same denser application of the gold thread is used on each cuff as well. This is the more glamorous version of the hostess dress and very chic. Excellent condition.

The skirt is fully lined in a pony nude silky rayon and the bodice is interlined with a fine netting. The sleeves are left unlined. It closes with a back, painted metal zipper. The Snooty Hooty label was sold at a small independent boutique of the same name in Atlanta. The boutique was open in 1966 under the name Serendipity by Barbara Weiss and it wasn't until 1969 when the name was changed after a grumpy client called one of the salespeople snooty and Weiss paired it with Hooty. My client bought this dress right in the very early years of the shop name changing. 

I love this dress with its combination of colours and that amazing cut. The printed parts are made of a floral brocade fabric that has an almost canvas feel to it and that really helps it to hold the shape that you see, including the pouf of the incredible sleeves. That fabric is used all along the sides and back of the dress and then each sleeve has it for the lower portion where it really poufs out above the wrist. A dusky pink was used all the way down the front and for the upper portion of the sleeves for an added pop of colour. Where the two fabric meet there is an elaborate border of a black cotton lace that adds some texture. The front plunges quite low and laces in a way that leaves bare skin exposed between the laces. It appears to have never been worn or worn very little. Excellent condition

This is a striking little dress that is made from a combination of a heavy red silk and an inky black velvet. It is done to give the illusion that the red silk has been wrapped around the inner strapless black dress. To give more depth to that illusion a large swatch of the silk is gathered and wrapped over the bodice and then rises above one shoulder in the most dramatic way. This appears to anchor the fabric that wraps around the bodice to the back - enveloping the wearer like a beautiful package. With the way that it points and the fact that the silk is that deep red, it gives it a flame like feel. It is like wearing a piece of art and at the same time it acts as a clever way to make the wearer appear even taller and leaner then she is. The other shoulder is left completely bare for the perfect balance. I love how the black velvet is set in on sharp angular lines to contrast that more fluid feel of the red. This inner construction is lightly boned and shaped so that the dress falls straight down from the bust. It nips in at the waist and there is a black silk satin bow that wraps and hooks into place around you. It is wonderful. Excellent condition with two minor notes to review below

Fully lined in a black silk through the bodice and has a built in inner red silk skirt. It closes with a zipper that follows the angle of the seam at the back. Lightly boned through the inner bodice. The belt is partially attached and hooks into place to close. The point that is extended out has a flat wire inside that is not super stiff. Hence the way it drops in the photos. If you wanted it to be very high and extended it would be easy to open a seam and add more wire. There is a very faint spot on the front skirt that you only see in certain lights its so faint and the pile under one arm has flattened just a tiny touch. The duo behind the La Mendola label met in Rome in 1960 and started their business making dresses and selling them one by one, piece by piece. In 1967 they opened a shop and women like Elizabeth Taylor and Rita Hayworth become steadfast clients who were buying, and even wait listing for pieces as they were produced. They were located in Italy and their atelier closed in 1974.

The prints that you see on the La Mendola pieces were all done in house. This one is suggestive of long feather rows and it has been screened onto a beautiful silk jersey fabric that is gorgeous and easy to wear. It is also a fabric choice that takes the colour and print of their designs exceedingly well. The set is made up of three separate pieces, a dress, a matching cape, and a turban. The dress has a simple scooped neck and an equally simple cut through the bodice and sleeves. It skims over the waist and then gradually widens out as it nears the hem. The simplicity of the design is a backdrop to how the printed fabric is set to make the the dress. You can see how beautifully it lines up at the centre seams. Over this is goes a cape made in the same fabric. The cape has soft rounded shoulders and slits at the front that you can put your arms through. It is cut to end just below the hem of the dress under it and it is a study of refinement. To tie it all together the set comes with a simple matching turban. Each piece is simple and elegant and when worn all together it makes a dramatic statement. Together they are absolutely beautiful. Excellent condition with one minor note below

This is a fabulous set from the Missoni label. It is so hard to come across the really great vintage Missoni pieces anymore. Collectors hoard them like the  treasures that they are. This has everything you want in a Missoni set. It is young feeling, fresh, it speaks of the times it was made in and yet it is still classic and timeless. The midi length skirt with its fitted hips and swingy skirt under that works perfectly with the matching tunic top. Both pieces are done in a beautiful and classic mix of the Missoni chevron and stripes. The skirt is cut to be more fitted around the hip for a slim line that the tunic can then skim over and then the skirt flares out more under that. The lower portion of the skirt is set in at the seam with a series of small, soft pleats that help give it the extra bit of volume that you see. The top is a simple cut tunic style with a scooped neck and simple straight cut through the body and the sleeves. The back has a lower scoop for a bot of skin to show. You could easily add a belt to add more shape if you wished. The knit is a nice weight and a mix of cotton and linen - it's not heavy - you could easily wear this on a cooler summer evening and then again in the fall with boots. Excellent condition

Both pieces are unlined and slip on top wear. The tunic has no size tag and the skirt is tagged a 46. The waist on the skirt has elastic and it does not seem stretched out but it does not come in a lot either.

There is currently a beaded Malcolm Starr dress that is available in the shop and the girl I got that off of rang me up recently to tell me that she had found its matching, unlabeled coat. It is a great stand alone piece and I immediately grabbed it for the shop as well. These are most likely the early work of Elinor Simmons before her name went on the labels. She designed for the Malcolm Starr label from the early 1960s to 1972.

This is a phenomenal full length silk satin evening or opera coat. It is exquisite in its cut and design with the simplicity and stark lines allowing that beautiful silk satin to shine through. The color is a statement in and of itself ans it is that same brilliant pink that the dress was done in. The interior is lined in a heavy matching pink silk and this monochromatic approach is stunning as it does not break the long line of pure color that is created. The shoulders are structured but without any inner padding so still has a soft feel to them. The sleeves are cut to just above the wrists as was the fashion during this time period. It is cut to skim and float over the body and then sweeps fully to the floor in a beautiful column of pink silk. The back has a belted detailing to break the very long line. It buttons at the front with silk covered buttons in a double row at the bust. Each button hole is hand set and properly finished. The collar is neat and it is embellished with a dense application of gold toned tube beads mixed with seed beads and prong set rhinestones. This same detailing is what covers the bodice of the dress (which you can see by clicking here). It is stunning and very well made. Excellent condition

I am such a huge Hanae Mori fan and this particular dress is a really great one. It really feels of this season and still so fresh and modern that it is easy to imagine slipping it on and going out the same day it arrives at your door. It is made of two layers of silk. The inner layer is an opaque red silk twill and then over that sits an outer feather light silk chiffon layer that floats over the interior. The exterior layer has been custom screened with a gorgeous abstract print and the effect of the printed layered over the solid colored inner layer is quite beautiful and adds an unexpected depth to the print. Once the dress is slipped on, it feels like it weighs next to nothing and simply floats around you. The print is a beautifully simple, yet striking because of the vibrant color combination that she has used. It mixes a cherry red with a purple that changes in hue from an almost pale blue to a deep true purple. The design is east to wear. It slips on and crosses over slightly at the front and hook and snaps into place The leaves a deep V cut neckline at the front. The sleeves are cut to pouf out to be very full and voluminous just above their cuffs and they have been left unlined so have an airy feminine feel to them. There is also a hidden long vertical slit on each one that is somewhat hidden by a slight overlap but as you move you get a glimpse of your skin showing through. The skirt flows to the floor from the loose and easy cut waist in a perfect soft flowing column of silk with the two layers gives it a pretty floating feel. You can easily add a belt to add more shape and cinch it in if you wish. Excellent condition with a note to review below.

The bodice and interior of the skirt is lined with a red silk. The sleeves are left unlined. It closes at the waist with a series of hooks and snaps. Each cuff has silk covered buttons and loops. There are 3 buttons missing on one cuff and I have priced it anticipating being able to take it to a tailor or seamstress and have them make replacement buttons.

The lines of this suit are beautiful. It really shows what a master tailor he was and how intricate his work could be. Both pieces are made from an ivory moire silk that has just a touch of the very pale set yellow to it in certain lights. The jacket is heavily embellished with embroidery and a raffia in the same shade of ivory. This monotone approach gives it a rich, luxe feel.  The detailing is down around the pockets above the slit cuffs ends of the sleeves and then there is a full medallion of it on the back. I love that even the silk covered buttons that close the jacket have embroidery work on them as well. The jacket is sleekly cut with lightly padded shoulders and long sleeves. The waist curves and nips in and the hips are cut on a structured rounded curve that is quite beautiful. The skirt falls to about the knee in a simple and chic pencil shape with a banded waist. Everything about the cut and line of the suit is done to allow that wonderful jacket to take center stage. This would even make a lovely wedding suit. I see one pinhead dot on the back of the skirt and some of the raffia at the very front has a slightly crushed feel to it. It feels immaculate when you look at it.

This dress beautifully showcases the genius of Oscar de la Renta and the work that he was doing in this time period. The attention to detail alone is fabulous. The dress has a beautiful elegance to it and is quite striking. This sense of refinement is a constant in Oscar's work and I particularly love the earlier examples of it. You can see how many of the elements in this dress are a reflection of the  standards he adhered to for his entire career and body of work.

The dress is made from a semi-sheer silk chiffon in a deep dusky pink with a floral print screened over the surface. Through the body is a built in under dress done in two layers of a nude silk chiffon and this falls to just above the knees. This play on the sheerness allows the design that runs over the chiffon to have a different feel as it runs over you. Over the floral design of the silk is an intricate pattern that is made from sequins. The sequins are placed in two ways... some are placed flat side by side and then in other areas they are overlapped to form perfect little curved rows. This changes how they catch the light and adds even more texture and gives the entire dress its subtle glint. The bodice is cut to skim over the body and each sleeve is long, slim and left unlined for a touch of transparency. The shoulders have light padding to hold the shape and give the upper part of the dress a touch of formality. The skirt is fantastic and it flows to the floor, gradually widening out a touch as it nears the hem. At the back it continues to extend out into a modified train for the perfect dramatic finish. It is a beautiful example of his work during this time period. Excellent condition with a minor note below.

Donald Brooks pieces are always very well made and the pieces from his Boutique line have a real sense of ease and fun about them that I love. Brooks launched his main line label in 1964. He only designed for a very short time, closing his business in 1973. He had a secondary, boutique line that he started in 1971 that also closed in 1973. This set is from the boutique line which gives us that small time period from 1971-1973 for its date.

This is a super cute and fun cropped skirt and top set that has that perfect seventies feel to it. This set is especially cute with its bright and cheerful print on a white cotton base that really lets the colors pop. The top has extra wide sleeves that come out from the bodice so they kind of slouch with an easy feel once on. It has no closures down the front at all, instead it has ties that extend out from the cropped bottom and then you tie it into place. This cropped length gives you an expanse of bare skin between the bottom of the top and the skirt. The skirt is long and is cut more on the fuller side with a banded waist and buttons that run all the way down the front. I love that it has pockets on each hip. On both pieces that pop of the bright colors against the white is just amazing. Excellent overall condition with a minor note to review below

In the 1960s if you wanted to wear something with a dramatic flare then you chose the work of Ronald Amey. He was known for his original use of fabrics and colors and his dresses were priced into the thousands even in the 1960s. His career was very short-lived. From 1959-1969 he designed under the label Burke-Amey. Joseph Burke, his partner, took care of the business side of things. In 1970s he bought out Burke and renamed the company Ronald Amey where he continued to produce his dramatic clothing until the label shuttered in 1976. His clothing was of very high quality and he incorporated many couture level details into their construction. All of his pieces were sewn in-house at his New York atelier

One of his signatures was to combine prints, fabrics and detailing embellishments in interesting, unusual ways and this dress is a wonderful example of that. This is an absolutely beautiful dress and I think that in person it is even better. The bodice is cut to curve around the body and then it is cinched in at the waist area. The sleeves are spectacular and each is cut to be full and voluminous. The skirt also has volume and is cut in a wide curve that billows out and away from the body. The base fabric is a printed silk organza. This choice of fabric allowed him to give the sleeves the volume you see but it also keeps the dress light in weight. The neckline is high and the detailing on it runs wide across the tops of the shoulders. That metallic band that Amey used to detail the dress is fantastic. It is a lattice made of silver metal thread that has little eyelash tufts attached to it. This is then bordered by a band of gold and silver thread. This curves around the neckline and then down the front all the way to the hem of the skirt. More of this silver and gold detailing runs around the hem, the waist and then is used again for the cuffs on each sleeve. Big dome buttons that are wrapped in a gold metal thread sit at the back of the neck and on each cuffs. Excellent condition with one minor note below.

Fully lined in a pale ice white blue silk throughout. Entirely hand finished. It closes with a back zipper and two gold buttons at the neck. Each cuff has three gold metal dome buttons and loops. There is one gold bead missing on the top button at the back of the neck otherwise the dress appears to have been worn very little if at all. The dress is even better in person. The length will land from midi to just above the ankle depending on your height

This is a wonderful and easy to wear caftan dress by the Young Innocents by Arpeja label. Arpeja was based out of California. They had several lines that were very on trend and targeted towards a more youthful audience. The Young Innocents label launched in 1964 and lasted into the early 1970s. They were an early proponent of sourcing fabric that were from organically grown sources.

This caftan dress is bright and colorful and so very pretty with its mix of a true bright blue and a soft apple red. It has an almost smock feel to its construction The sleeves are exceptionally wide and the effect once on a real person is wonderful. The neckline is cut into a V at the front and trimmed with a wide border of the red floral fabric. This same red is used for the attached ties that you can use to cinch it in at the waist. Under that the skirt falls to the floor, gently widening as it nears the hem. More red edges each wide sleeve and then is used in a wide band around the hem. It is a made out of cotton so it is very easy to care for. I love the combination of the red and blue and the big floral print that covers both colors. The fabric also has an unusual 'puffed' ribbon effect running through it that adds an extra layer of texture. The dress is magical. Excellent condition

Closes with a back zipper and the attached ties will allow you to cinch in the waist as much as you wish. Easy to care for and can be machine or hand washed. The loose and easy cut should work on a variety of sizes.

Jean Varon launched his label in 1960 and by 1965 already one of his dresses won him the ‘Dress of The Year’ title. His work in the  1970s was softer and more romantic in feel but he still used amazing fabrics and did some work in exploring drape and bias cuts.

This dress is made from a beautiful yellow silk feeling synthetic crepe that has a pretty and romantic floral design worked directly into the fabric. The soft pink and greens of the flowers is the perfect contrast tot he pretty and fresh feeling yellow backdrop. The construction of this dress is very interesting. It is all bias cut with a strong nod to 1930s lingerie in how it is cut. It floats over the body with an extremely deep plunge at both the front and back. It is literally cut to the waist seem on both sides. You see the nod to the classic angled seams of the thirties but taken to the high extreme. The sleeves are equally dramatic and each also starts at the waist seam so that a wide dolman feel is created from the waist and shoulder and then they narrow down dramatically at the buttoned cuff. The skirt falls to the floor from the waist seam with another dramatic finish there as well - a sky high slit runs up the center The dress is cut to flow over the body and never feel very tight but still highlights every curve. You could add a wide belt to give even more curves if you wished. It is beautiful. Excellent condition

Unlined with a low set zipper at the back starting at the base of the plunge. The bias and loose cut should allow it to fit a range of sizes and it could easily be altered for the perfect fit on a smaller frame. The waist has no stretch. It is tagged a vintage UK14, US12, FR42. The elastic that runs through the plunge feels like it has loosened ever the years. It should be tightened to work foe the girl that buys it so I have priced it anticipating that you will do this.

One of his signatures was to combine bold colors, prints and fabrics in interesting, unusual ways and this dress is a splendid example of that. The colors are bold and the mix is dramatic. The bodice and sleeves are sheer orange printed silk chiffon that is layered over the same printed coral ribbon silk that you see used for the skirt. This gives the top a very couture and quirky feel. The neckline is cut wide across the collarbones and it is anchored by a wide band of blue silk satin that is top-stitched in gold thread. This curves around the neckline and then down the front on either side of the notched front. The panel continues past the seamed waist and runs down the center of the skirt where it ends with a large diamond of the same fabric in brown. More of the blue runs around the hem and then is used again for the cuffs on each sleeve. The combination of the orange, coral and blue is spectacular . The heavy dose of all those prints, colors and patterns should not work but it does. The perfect finish is the wide fabric belt made of the same blue as the banding and this wraps around the waist where you can cinch it in and leave it simple as I did or tie it in a far more elaborate way. The exterior is in excellent condition with a note about the lining to review below.

Fully lined in a bright peach silk throughout except for the sleeves. Entirely hand finished. It closes with a front zipper and there are zippers on each cuff. The zippers stick a bit when you open and close them. There is shattering of the silk around each arm on the interior. The exterior fabrics are sound and show no wear at all. The exterior of the dress appears to have been worn very little. The dress is even better in person.

In 1941 Normal Norell partnered with Anthony Traina and his work from then until 1958 appears under the Traina-Norell label. That makes this dress a wonderful and early example of his work from this time period. He was a master tailor and he was known for his love of fabrics and in exploring shape and volume. In October of 1953, another version of a dress that uses a very similar fabric in its construction appeared in Harper's Bazaar on Evelyn Tripp.

The dress I have available today feature that same exotic felling metallic detailed silk fabric is the reference photo. The silk on this one however, is dyed to a beautiful deep marigold color that is absolutely spectacular in person. On to this is a fine, real metal thread in a deep burnished gold that is meticulously hand embroidered onto the fabric. You can easily see the hand work on the inner side of the silk. It runs in a wide panel down the front and then little leaf medallions are scattered over the entire dress. The bodice is cut to skim over the body with a notched front neckline that has little ties at the top of the neck. The sleeves are kept simple and capped. The waist is cinched and detailed with a wide banding of the same fabric and really gives you shape. Under that, the skirt is set into the waist in a series of small pleats beginning on either side of the front band of metallic embroidery. This pleating detail gives it the volume that you see. It's a long midi length and depending on how tall you are it should fall to ankle length or just above. It is a stunning dress and meticulously made with all hand finishes inside. This is an important piece of American fashion history. It presents as excellent but does have some minor flaws that are noted below.

Fully lined in an ivory silk through the bodice and the skirt is unlined. Hand finished throughout. Pockets on each hip and it closes with a painted metal side zipper. There is some foxing along each shoulder and on part of the waist and a tiny bit on the hip on one side. I see one pinhole tot he fabric at the hip and there is a tear just above the hem. Slight fraying to the piping/ties around the neckline. All minor. Please review the photos provided after the label shot. In person the color is a slightly deeper yellow.

This is a very fabulous and quite a sexy dress by the Leonard Paris label. It is made from his signature silk jersey fabric and this choice of fabric gave these long maxi length dresses the perfect drape and fit. It is that perfect balance of being easy to wear and still staying insanely sexy but without being overtly so. Each of his designs were made from custom designed fabrics and during this time period in particular, they were all the most gorgeous color palettes, like this one with its mix of bright flowers on that stunning green backdrop. I love the crossed over triangle halter cut through bodice and the back that is left almost bare. The barely-there top perfectly balances the full length maxi skirt that flows to the floor in a swoop of bias cut silk jersey. There is a good amount of fabric through the skirt which allows for more of that pretty design to be seen whenever you move. The neck sinks into a V and the straps that curve around each shoulder and down the back are made from the same silk that has been braided. Signature contrasting borders define the neckline, under the bust and all the way around the hem. This dress is a real little beauty. Excellent condition with a minor note to review below.

Unlined and closes with a low back back, hand set metal and nylon zipper. The fabric is a silk jersey and does have some stretch - the measurements given are the comfortable stretch when laying out flat. The fabric is signed throughout. There are some teeny marks on the front nearer to the bottom but nothing that detracts

This Chanel jumpsuit is fantastic. It has simple lines but they are perfect and its easy to wear cut will make throwing this on and wearing it a breeze. It is made out of two different fabrics. The bodice is a ribbed jersey, a classic fabric that Karl was using during this time period, and the pants are a silk/wool mix crepe. They are two different shades of black so they slightly contrast off each other. Inside the jumpsuit the bodice is lined in a super soft, very fine sueded silk that feels like heaven against your skin and the rest of is is lined in a silk crepe. The front and back are scooped and the straps extend from the bodice and curve up and around the shoulders. It skims over the waist and there are pockets built in along the inset seams at the front. It starts to widen out at the hips and then the legs are cut straight and wide and slightly cropped. Each is a full 28" around by the time they reach their hem. It is quintessentially Chanel and has a very French feel to it. You can wear it in its own or with layers under it or over it. The double C logo is embroidered at the very front. Excellent condition with a minor note below

The bodice is lined in a black silk and the waist and pants are lined in a black silk crepe. Closes with a hidden set back zipper. No size tag present. There is the teeniest of pilling present on the bodice. Its very minor and I am being picky.
