I Have a Question
In the 1960s Pierre Cardin produced a series of modernistic animal pendants. They were huge and made out of a silver toned metal. Each has a with a good, decent feeling weight to them and each hangs suspended from the same chunky silver chain. There is at least a half dozen animals in the collection and this is one of two that I currently have in the shop. I love the 'space age' aesthetic they have, a signature of his work during this era. This one features an elephant and the pendant is both massive and dramatic. It is a perfect statement piece that you can wear with anything. It is signed at the back. Excellent condition
The elephant measures 4.5" across at the widest point and is 5.5" top to bottom including the large loop clasp that attaches it to the chain. The chain is 21" end to end and has a clasp closure that allows you to adjust the length.

Documented 1969 Pierre Cardin Couture Pink Silk Crepe Diamond Beaded Dress w Overlay
I Have a Question
I already had the documentation on this dress because I sold an unlabeled brown coloured version of it in the past. This one however, seems to be the near twin of the one that I have a reference photo of and have included here. It is an interesting piece because of the documentation and it also has an interesting design in the way that it wraps and closes. The dress is not perfect. The dye has faded substantially on parts of it. It may be possible to re-dye it but my client did not want to do that now in case it is important to a collector to have it stay as original as possible. It is an amazing example of his early couture work.
Regardless of its imperfections, the dress is amazing and the pink is an instant eye catcher. The inner dress is a long, sleek sleeveless sheath. Over this sits is an overlay that is made up of a long wide panel of the same silk as the inner dress. This overlay drapes down the front and then again down the back in a long stark column. The front overlay has straps that extend out from each side and these wrap and hook to close between the inner sheath dress and the back overlay. Down the front there is an extensive beaded design. The neckline is wrapped in curving bands of silver toned beads that circle the neck like a bib. Below that three huge diamond shaped medallions run down the front with the top one being the largest and the bottom and middle slightly smaller then the one above. In the centre of each beaded diamond are a mix of deep pink and paler pink prong set crystal rhinestone surrounded by pearls. The silver needs have been sewn into place using a matching pink thread to the silk of the dress and this gives them a slight pink tone. It's genius. That elaborate front is like wearing a jewelled bib and it is extraordinary. All of the work on the dress has been done by hand and to couture standards. The dress is wearable and sound outside of is obvious discolourations.
Fully lined in a pink silk with hand finishes throughout. The dress closes at the back with a hidden set metal zipper. The wrap around straps hook to close at the back and there is a series of hook & eye across the top of one shoulder. There appear to be some repairs to the beading near the neck and a small area of shattering to the silk on the inside back neck. The silk has faded in areas throughout. Please see the photos provided to get a good sense of the parts that have lightened. Sold as found and final sale. All hand done and made to Haute Couture standards.

I Have a Question
I have held this in my archives for several years now and I think that it is a stunning example of the fur pieces being produced by designers like Pierre Cardin during this time period. This was the beginning of the movement of treating fur more like a fabric and making coats that had far more style to them then the previous norm. I am no expert on furs but believe this it is Fitch. The color is a rich deep brown that has an undertone ranging from a soft taupe to a creamy ivory. The fur is supple, shiny and very soft. The fur is set in horizontal rows with bands of a black suede in between. It is cut in a classic sixties cut that flares out as it reaches the bottom hem. The sleeves are incredible and each widens out to a flare finish at the cuff. It does up with hooks at the front and the collar is deep and rounded. Pockets sit along the edge of one of the rows at each hip. It has been properly stored and cared for and appears to have been worn very little if at all. No splitting, issues or shedding. Excellent condition with a minor note below to review.
Fully lined in a deep brown silky rayon and closes with the fur hooks down the front. Pockets on each hip. I see no bald spots or shedding, the pelts are supple and soft. There is slight wear at some of the common points - near the hooks and the edges of the sleeves, but it is very minor. The fur has no odd odor, is still supple and is stable with no signs of any shedding that would indicate that it is breaking down.

I have a small collection of historically important, key designer labelled vintage furs and fur trimmed pieces stored away in my archives that I will be slowly posting on the site over the next couple of years until I have none left. I will no longer be buying furs for the shop moving forward and have not purchased anything for several years now. I feel like times have changed and while there still is a place for vintage furs for some, including collectors and historians, many modern girls are choosing other options. Many of the pieces in my collection are representative of the designer during a set time period in history that was different then our modern outlook. I have decided that the best course to handle this controversial issue is to let the pieces I have go rather then sit in a cold storage unit. Fur coats are final sale.
I Have a Question
There is a certain silhouette that is closely associated with Pierre Cardin but he was actually a designer that had a huge range. At times some of his other silhouettes get overlooked and they should not be. This wonderful Haute Couture example is from the estate of Baronessde Alain nee Mary Chauvin du Treuil and it was made for her during the period of 1968-1970. It is a beautiful and elegant piece that may not be as 'mod' in feel as some of Cardin's other pieces during this time period but shows the breadth of his talent and the restraint in line that he was capable of.
The dress is made from a handmade guipure lace - a heavy lace consisting of embroidered motifs that are held together by large connecting stitches. The color of the lace changes as it travels from shoulder to hem creating a very pretty and striking palette. The texture and weight of it changes as well. The bands of lacework range from a pale lavender at the top to the deep, rich eggplant at the hem, In between this are colors that are somewhere in the middle between the two. The openness of the lace also changes, with a lighter more open feel at the top and then like the color, it gets gradually denser as it reached the bottom hem. The shape is kept very simple so that the lace and color take center stage. It falls in a sleek column over the body with just a subtle nod to shape through the waist. Underneath, it is lined in a high end pink silk whose color peeks out through the outer lace layer. I love the wide cut sleeves and how they are finished following the pattern of the lace. It is a dress that may seem unremarkable on a hanger but transforms into a very chic and elegant piece once on the body. Excellent condition
Fully lined in a pink silk and closes with a hand set back painted metal zipper. Hand set lining, hand made lace and entirely done by hand as per the definition of Haute Couture.

I Have a Question
This perfect little black dress is made out of one of Cardin's favorite fabrics, a mid-weight wool that holds the line and design of his dresses exactly as he wished. The has all of the classic Cardin signatures from this time period. The cut is a sculpted A-line with seaming details that define the design. Over-sized, glossy black buttons are placed to highlight the seaming and add detail. The sleeves and hem are finished in a flat braided applique. I love the neckline in particular. It appears to close completely up the neck with a series of buttons but upon inspection you realize that these are purely decorative. It is a clever bit of seaming and placement of the buttons. The skirt has a rounded pleat that is set just below the waist on either side of the hip at the front. This adds to the shape of the skirt and also adds yet another element to the overall design. Pictures do not do it justice. Cardin pieces are best appreciated when in hand and on the body. Each is cut at a masterful level and this one is no exception. Excellent condition.
Fully lined in a black silk that is hand set. Closes with a back hidden set zipper. The front buttons are decorative. Fits on the smaller size through the upper body and shoulders. Made to demi-couture standards

I Have a Question
Similar pieces with this grommet detailing are held in the Goldstein Museum of Design and both have a date range attributed to them. I believe this to be from the earlier part of the 1960s rather then the later. I have never seen a full set like this before and the bright yellow color of the two pieces make it even more fabulous and collectible. This is two pieces - a tunic, or mini dress if you are very brave, and a pair of shorts that sit underneath the tunic to keep it from being scandalous. Both pieces are made out of a textured silk linen mix that is an almost acid yellow in color. The shorts are simple in cut with sleek fit. Over this goes that wonderful tunic that has those huge gold colored grommets running down the neckline and around the collar. Each is open so you get a glimpse of skin through the center holes. The neckline is slit very deep and a corresponding slit runs up the center front seam at the hem. I love the mod feeling pockets that sit on each hip. They are the perfect finish to this spectacular set. Excellent, museum quality condition.
Both pieces are fully lined in a yellow silk. Each closes at the back with a painted metal zipper. Note that the grommets do show patina and wear but this is a natural occurrence on a piece of this age. I do not consider this to detract from the ensemble. Note the color is more lemon in tone then how it photoed.
