Fall 1979 Incredible Halston Gold & Blue Metallic Silk Dress
When researching this piece I found a pattern in a similar vein from the 1973 collection in the book "Halston" by Phaidon. I believe this may be from that same season and was most likely a custom piece. The fabric is a bias cut, gold & blue metallic lame silk and is extremely light in weight so moves amazingly and feel wonderful when on. It is cut deceptively simple and constructed to skim and drape over the body. The bias cut of the fabric allows it cling in the right places but not in a tight or fitted way. The waist is elastic so very comfortable with a wide sash of the same fabric to cinch it in and create shape. Once the waist is tied the fullness of the sleeves is emphasized and the long to the floor skirt becomes the perfect balance. The skirt falls in one long swoop of fabric. The way the gold and metallic tones catch the light is incredible. A rare and special Halston that I love. Excellent condition
Unlined and slips on to wear. Elastic through the waist with the original matching fabric sash that ties at the waist. A hook at the back of the neck above a small keyhole. The bias cut allows it to fit on a variety of sizes. Note that the gold in person is a true gold color. I have reacquired this dress after selling it a couple years back and am very pleased to have it again. The measurements are taken flat and at the comfortable range given the bias cut
Sleeves: 23"
Shoulders: no defined seam
Bust: to 20" flat across from side seam to side seam, though due to the bias cut it will go beyond that
Waist: 12.5-15" flat across from side seam to side seam
Hips: bias cut and will open to 26" flat across from side seam to side seam
Bodice: 16" from top of bodice to waist
Skirt: 42" from waist to hem
Modern Sizing Equivalent: XS-MED

SIZE GUIDE
Please review all measurements carefully. More often than not, vintage garments do not fit any size category exactly. If in doubt, measure a garment of your own that fits and is a similar cut and compare it's measurements to the listed measurements below.
