c1968 Oscar de la Renta Museum Dress & Jacket

A similar version of this suit can be found in The Met's collection - the photo of the set with the longer jacket at the end of the photos here is the one from their collection.

Just before Oscar de la Renta began his own atelier, he spent three years as head designer at Jane Derby. He actually bought out the Jane Derby company and that is where Oscar de la Renta as we know it today began. This wonderful set is from that short time period before he officially became the powerhouse he is today and is that much more collectible for Oscar fans! This beautiful and metallic silk brocade dress and jacket is exceptional. The fabric is a fabulous and brilliant coral with gold thread worked into it. The gold sits a little lower then the coral silk so it has this fabulous texture to it. It is just heavy enough to hold that divine flared shape as it nears the hem but still feels very light on. The collar of the jacket and hem of the dress are ringed in dark mink - adding the perfect lush and decadent touch. Capped sleeve A line shift dress that is topped by the perfect little boxed cut jacket. Excellent condition!

Both pieces are fully lined in a fine tissue silk. The dress closes with a back painted metal zipper and the jacket closes at the front with a painted metal zipper. Hand finished throughout. Mink collar and hem that show no signs of wear. Silk lined hidden set pockets along seams of the dress.
