Ethereal Spring 2011 Nina Ricci by Peter Copping Black Silk Chiffon & Ivory Lace Plunge Dress

  • This dress is a longer version similar to the dresses that walked the runway for the Spring 2011 Nina Ricci show for Looks 2 and 5.
  • It was made under the creative direction of Peter Copping.
  • Vogue declared that the chiffon dresses were some of the best of the show and we think that this longer version of the pieces show is even better than it's shorter counterparts.
  • This dress feels magical. This is in part because of the mixing of a black silk chiffon that has a slight texture to it, with that beautiful ivory & black lace, but it is also because the dress weighs so little and feels so ethereal once on.
  • One side of the bodice has more coverage and drapes softly from the shoulders across the neckline. On the other side, the fabric crosses over itself to create a deep plunge. The dress is so well-made that we think you could wear it either way around. It has been photoed both ways so that you can see how different it feels depending on if you wear the plunge to the back or front.
  • The silk is gathered up in a raw feeling seam across the top of each shoulder. The chiffon has been softly pleated and set to run on a diagonal across before meeting the first panel of inset lace at the waist. The lace splits with a bit of chiffon in between on one side and a more slightly curving slope on the other. Another panel of angled chiffon sits below that and then a wider panel of the ivory lace wraps around you.
  • Under that the skirt is set in vertical soft pleats with two wide panels of black lace stacked above each other all the way around the hem.
  • This play between the colours of lace, the textures and transparency is just phenomenal.
  • All of the seaming on this dress is set on angles and curves so that it feels very reminiscent of the old Hollywood days of the 1920s and 1930s.
  • There are many yards of silk and lace netting through the lower portion of the skirt that cascade down to the hem. The extreme lightness of the silk and lace lets it move beautifully around you and it feels like wearing nothing.
  • The body of the dress is lined in a second layer of black silk chiffon and the lower skirt is unlined. It closes with a side set zipper with a ribbon pull. It appears to have been worn very little if at all. The silk is biased cut so there is a touch of range with the measurements.

SIZE GUIDE

Please review all measurements carefully. More often than not, vintage garments do not fit any size category exactly. If in doubt, measure a garment of your own that fits and is a similar cut and compare it's measurements to the listed measurements below.
