This amazing chiffon dress is by Bob Mackie and it perfectly reflects his range beyond his sequin pieces. Mackie was best known for dressing Cher and for his signature glamour. He worked for both Edith Head and Jean Louis prior to entering costume design and he began by co-designing with Ray Aghayan. That led to his incredible journey in designing for stars like Cher and Diana Ross for many years before launching his own label. His work always has that touch of the best of the bygone glamour of Hollywood and you can really see that 1930s and 1940s influence in the lines of this dress. 

The dress has two small flaws that keeps it from being perfect but is still perfectly wearable. Someone might even be able to come up with some kind of clever fix or alteration that would completely eliminate the flaws. Or wear it as it is and just embrace it vintage charms. The dress is made out of a soft yellow chiffon that sits over an inner lining of the same colour that makes it opaque. The colour is the prettiest pale yellow that is very flattering. The neckline drapes softly across the front and this continues down the front of the bodice. The back is scooped to leave a bare expanse of skin showing. It skims over the bust, waist and hips and then the skirt is set into the body of the dress on an upward angle at the front and downward angle at the back. The lower skirt falls in this extravagant swoosh of bias cut chiffon to the floor that falls outwards all around you. The back is cut slightly longer than the front and this lets it swirl and move around you as you walk and move. The photos give you a tiny sense of that but in person and on the body it is so much better. The straps are finished in tiny bands of iridescent tube beads. They curve over your shoulders and then around the edge of the neckline to the back with the bead work following this line. More of the same beading are set to follow the seam where the skirt is inset into the dress. This tiny detail adds the perfect finish. Excellent overall condition with a note below.

Made from a pale chiffon and closes with back hidden set zipper. There are marks on the fabric on either side of the zipper, tiny ones on the skirt and some near the side seam. Please see the photos after the label shot. The colour is slightly paler than how it photoed here. 

Bust: 16-17" flat across from side seam to side seam with some room at the front if needed because the back is bare so there are no true side seams
Waist: 13" flat across from side seam to side seam
Hips: to 20" flat across from side seam to side seam
Bodice: approx 12" from top of shoulders to waist
Total length: 66" from top of shoulders to front hem, 70" to the back

  • payment two of the remaining balance will be billed two weeks from the date of the initial deposit.
  • The final payment is due two weeks after the second payment and shipping will be billed on this invoice as well.
  • items less then $500, or that are on sale, require a 50% deposit with the final payment due in two weeks from the date of deposit
