Stunning 1930s Coral, Black & Pale Grey Floral Silk Print Bias Cut Backless Dress

This is one of a dozen dresses from a single owner collection of beautiful 1930s dresses and I am very pleased to have this small capsule for you. Her collection was lovingly sourced over decades and she has decided that it is time let them back out into the world for others to enjoy. Outstanding designs from this era are increasingly hard to find. Her collection represents some of the best of the era that I have seen in a very long time. Most are in excellent condition and the few included in the capsule that do have some flaws are such outstanding designs that I feel there is still room for someone to love them and wear them as they are, or perhaps to put in the additional work to repair them. This is just a tiny sampling of her overall collection and I hope to have another series of these capsules in the future. Enjoy this first drop.

This is a phenomenal dress from this time period. It is made out of a scarf weight, bias cut silk that has a graphic floral print. The floral print runs over a black base and combines an off-white/pale grey colour with a brilliant coral. There is also a tiny pale gold outline that follows the inner part of the floral pattern. This added bit of colour gives a little extra bit of dimension to the print. The combination is striking. The silk is feather light and completely cut on the bias. The front is cut into a halter and the fabric is gathered up and into the scooped neckline. The waist is seamed and detailed with an attached sash made of the same silk. The back is stunning. The straps from the front fall down the sides and leave the back bare between. The sash ends in a bow and there is ruching above and below to gather the dress in and add detail. Under that, the skirt falls to the floor and widens out as it gets to the hem at the front. The ruching at the lower back adds extra fabric so you get more volume there. The skirt slightly extends past the hem at the back for a touch of a trained effect. It is gorgeous. Excellent overall condition with a minor note below.

Unlined and closes at the back to the side with hook & eye and snaps. There are light marks under both arms bit the print hides them. A tiny bit of thinning to the fabric on one side but it seems strong and stable and held up to cleaning. It has been reinforced with invisible tape.
