Spring 1985 Yves Saint Laurent Black Cotton Button Front Strapless Mini Dress w Pockets
I Have a Question
This a great little black dress by Yves Saint Laurent. It is strapless and cut to hug your curves. The fabric is a black cotton that is heavy enough to give the dress some structure. To put it on you first do up the bandeau that is inside the dress. This is made from a black muslin and this inside piece zips into place so that the dress is held securely around you. Then you simply button it up down the front. I love the flap finish that runs all the way around the top of the dress. There are two big pockets on each hip that are finished with that same exaggerated flap. They not only add detailing but also add the illusion of more shape. The flap at the top adds shape to the bust and the ones on the pockets help to give the hips a flare out for an hourglass feel. The hem is cut short to that you get miles of legs showing. Everything about the cut of the dress is done to highlight the curves of the body. It is wonderful. Excellent condition
Unlined with an attached interior bandeau as described above. Buttons to close. Pockets are functional. The fabric has a very very slight fade feel to it at some or the edges that is a natural component of this fabric as it ages.

1994 Yves Saint Laurent Black Strapless Gold & Black Cord Dress w Side Bows
I Have a Question
This incredible dress is the Rive Gauche shorter version of the Fall 1994 famous Couture side bow dress. It is incredibly sexy and it feels very French. This one has the added modern provenance of being the actual dress worn Adria Arjona for the 2018 Gold Globes season. We have included a shot of her in the dress so you can see how it looks on the body along with the Couture dress that was the inspiration for this dress.
The dress is gorgeous and the fabric itself is part of what makes it so fabulous. The top layer of fabric is a black lace that has a silk cord applied on top of it to follow the pattern of the lace underneath. This sits over an inner lace that has metallic gold metal thread woven over its surface. The effect of the gold peeking out from underneath is gorgeous and I love the depth and interest that this creates. The dress is strapless and meant to hug and fit over the body. Inside there is a built in corset with boning that holds the dress in place around you. It hugs the bust and is shaped so that it curves in at the waist. There is no waist seaming, it just curves in for shape and then it skims over the hips and has a more pencil shape that will sit above the knee. How short it sits depends on your height. The dress has three pretty bows down one side. The top lace and cord layer is attached and it closes over the inner gold layer to the third bow. From the third bow to the hem that top layer is open so that when you walk and move you get a stronger feel of the gold underneath. It is absolutely fantastic and an instantly recognizable piece of YSL. Excellent condition
Fully lined in a black silk and closes with a hidden set side set zipper and the top layer of lace hooks in place over the zipper. The inner bust is boned. Tagged a vintage YSL 38
Bust: 16" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: 12.5" flat across from side seam to side seam

Spring 2013 Yves Saint Laurent by Hedi Slimane Runway Look 4 Suede Safari Lace-up Full Length Dress
I Have a Question
If you are a Hedi Slimane fan then you know that the Spring 2013 collection was his debut collection for Saint Laurent. Vogue said that he "hot-wired himself into the YSL legacy with Le Smoking, the mousselines, the pussy bows, the shot of animal spot, and that thing called Saharienne (which will always be Veruschka in Vogue. The tassels said Morocco—they also said Opium, à la Yves." It was a bevy of rock-chic couture and everything shown was about length of the body and a nod to the seventies. The twin of this dress was in the opening moments of the show for Look 4 and it was the first glimpse of his version of the YSL safari look. He took what is a house signature and elongated it in suede to fit his vision. It was one of his strongest pieces of the show.
I actually love this dress. I think it was a brilliant way to re-do an iconic look from YSL and make it his own. It also fully fits in with his love for long, lean length when it comes to his design aesthetic. The dress is made out of a soft supple suede in a classic deep neutral colour. It falls all the way to the floor and appears to be in its original uncut length. The collar is sharp and pointed and I love the straps on the top of each shoulder. He lightly padded the shoulders for a bit of added structure and the sleeves are long. Each sleeve ends in a corded lace up and I think this added detail works perfectly on this dress. You can see in the close-up shots from the runway that he wrapped these laces around the lower arm. At the front we see that same lace up cording run down to just past the waist. This is what makes the safari look so fantastic and add a touch of sexiness because you can see a bit of bare skin through the laces. On the front are four top set flap pockets that are another nod to this same detail on Yves' original design. It skims over the bust, waist and hips and then flares out quite a bit by the time it reaches the bottom hem. It comes with a matching suede belt for added shape and all of these elements add up to something that is both classic and fresh. It is one of my favourite dresses that he created from his time at YSL and this is a collectible future vintage piece. Excellent condition.
Unlined and closes with a side set zipper and then you can adjust the lower portion of the sleeves and the front with the laces that you see. The pockets snap to close and they are all functional. The belt is a simple suede wrap and tie belt. The suede has natural variations

Incredible Spring 1990 Yves Saint Laurent Haute Couture Runway Look 50 Ivory Silk Dress
I Have a Question
The twin of this dress walked the runway for the Spring 1990 Haute Couture collection. Its twin was shown under a jacket on model Gloria Burgess and we found the original sketch of the dress in my YSL folio. I thought it interesting to see that Gloria was not the original model intended for the dress and that there was a change by Yves as to who wore it on the actual runway and you can see that interesting little detail in the sketch. I have included all the reference photos for you here and it gives you a beautiful idea of how fabulous this is once on the body. This is also the collection that the book 'Yves Saint Laurent: Catwalk' notes that "The end of this catwalk show was greeted by 10 minutes of a standing ovation, following Yves Saint Laurent's homage - via 119 designs - to the hugely talented men and women who had thus far influenced him and made an impression upon him". The dress is gorgeous and Yves always cut his couture pieces so perfectly. It really is a beautiful piece and in my opinion, owning a piece of his couture work is one of the ultimate vintage acquisitions.
The dress is amazing and showcases how wonderful Yves Saint Laurent could cut a dress to flatter a woman's body. It is made entirely by hand and the silk is that heavier richer silk that you only see in the very best pieces of couture. The top is cut to skim over you and blouse over the waist. The shoulders have padding to extend the line of them outwards a touch over the ends of the shoulder. The sleeves are cut full through the upper arms and then narrow to the wrists. Each cuff ends with four handmade silk covered buttons and loops and each button is perfectly functional. The neckline is set a touch wide across. The silk is gathered around the waist into soft folds to create a little extra bit of a detailing. The folds are set slightly off to the side and on an slight angle that visually helps to extend the body of the person wearing it. The waist is seamed but cut on the more generous side. To cinch it in we have added an ivory silk chiffon sash that is a beautiful match to the dress. The skirt falls under that in a simple shape that flares out as it nears the hem. It falls to just about the knee or above depending on your height and there are hidden pockets along each hip. The colour of the silk is beautiful creamy ivory. This is a brilliant dress and when you see it in person you will fall in love with how good it is in person. It really shows how sometimes simplicity can have so much of an impact. It would be a dress that might make an amazing wedding dress for the bride looking for a non-traditional choice, for a day wedding, or as an alternative dress in a more extended wedding celebration. Excellent condition.
Fully lined in an ivory silk and all the work is done by hand to Haute Couture standards. It closes with a hand set side zipper and a button at the back of the neck. An inner waist stay hooks to close. Each cuff has four hand made silk buttons and loop. Padding in each shoulder as described above. Completely made by hand. Proper Haute Couture numbered label present. The silk chiffon sash is not original to the dress but will be sent with it. Any change in colour that you see in the photos is lighting.

Incredible Spring 1990 Yves Saint Laurent Runway Brilliant Green Jacket w Pink Lining & Black Skirt Set
I Have a Question
The twin of this set walked the Spring 1990 runway and it is one of my favourite looks from that show. This set is not 100% perfect but it is completely wearable and too good to pass by. I am very pleased to have found it and I love it. It is such a rare and special piece from this time period.
This set is one of those pieces that just stops you in your tracks. It is insanely cut and the colour combination is fantastic. The jacket is made from a fine lightweight silk and combines a bright emerald green and then an amazing hot pink interior. The skirt is made out of a light black silk jersey that moves exceptionally well. The colours are even better than how it photoed and it is almost shocking to see the pink interior in person. The jacket has a soft cut that has some fullness through the upper body. There is no collar and the neckline dips down into a V to just below the bust. There is a brilliant flower in a muted coral red that sits at the base of the V. The flower has beading detail at its centre and I love this added detailing. The shoulders are lightly padded for shape and the sleeves are set into the jacket with soft gathers to add a touch of a capped feel. Each sleeve is cut slightly wider at the top near the shoulder and is cut on a slight curve to follow the arm. There is a seam gathered at the very front of the waist under the flower which creates a little ruffled detail. Inside the jacket there is a built in waist stay to keep the jacket in place but it is only attached at the sides and front. This allows the silk to drape loose and soft across the back. It is quite a genius. The skirt is simple in shape but has its own wow factor. The waist is banded and there is an attached black satin tie to add a little detail. The jersey is all gathered into the waist and falls in a soft straight line to the knee depending on your height. Hidden pockets sit on each hip. This is a particularly wonderful example of how he combined strong tailoring with brilliant colour. Excellent overall condition with a note below
The jacket is lined in a shocking pink silk. The jacket hooks to closes under the flower pin and the inner waist stay also hooks to close. The jacket has its original hang tag. Light padding in the shoulders. I see some yellowing areas to the fabric lightly scattered over the surface and more apparent in the crook on one arm. Please see the photos after the label shot. The skirt zips to close at the side. Pockets on the each hip. The skirt has a numbered label and is hand finished throughout. It almost appears to be a couture piece. The jacket is tagged a vintage YSL 40

Incredible 1972 Yves Saint Laurent Red Floral Silk Chiffon & Red Silk Dress w Balloon Sleeves & Pleat Detailing
I Have a Question
When dating this extraordinary Yves Saint Laurent dress, we found a photo of a piece with almost an identical cut bodice from 1972 along with several runway photos that show other pieces with that same cut to the bodice. I have included those here for you and it is interesting to note that the pleating technique that is used around the upper hip of the skirt was also done in a more intricate fashion for the 1974 Couture show. Yves often use ideas from both collections. - Rive Gauche and Couture - to build and develop ideas and it is fascinating to see the progression of his work from garment to garment. This is an incredibly beautiful example of his work from this time period.
This dress combines a floral silk chiffon with a muted red silk on the skirt. This combination is absolutely gorgeous. Is combination of silks give the dress just enough weight and structure to be able to create the impressive lines and volume that you see but while still making it feel soft and romantic. The colours are spectacular. The top is a printed silk chiffon, and it has a stunning floral pattern in red purples and greens that float over the entire bodice and the sleeves. The bodice is cut to skim over you and the waist nips in. It plunges at the front and crosses over itself, and the neckline has been detailed with ruffles that begin at the back of the neck and circle around to follow the V at the front and then run down to the waist. piping in the same fabric detail. The waste and ties have been left off to the side to hang down and create a pretty little detail. The skirt falls to the floor from there and it has yards and yards of fabric in it that creates the fullness and volume that you see. The skirt falls in a gently widening line and is quite full by the time it reaches the hem. I love the volume that this type of fabric creates and how it billows around you as you move but at the same time it is as light as a feather. Around the entire upper hip area, and starting at the waist or a series of tiny cleats that gradually open out to create the volume underneath. This intricate detail is a beautiful addition to the dress. The sleeves are outstanding. Each is a single layer of the silk chiffon and are wide and very full. They are caught up at the wrist with a circle full circle ruffle underneath. This creates a beautiful and dramatic finish to the top. I love everything about this dress. Excellent condition.
Fully lined in a red silk and closes at the back with a hidden set painted met zipper. Attached ties at the waist and elastic in each cuff. The silk skirt and the exterior layer is a tool ruffle that helps keep the volume through the skirt. Tagged a vintage YSL 38. I see some light marks around the hem of the skirt.
