Cruise 2020 Christian Dior by Maria Grazia Chiuri Black Cape Back Jersey Dress
I Have a Question
I have had the twin of this dress in blue in the shop before and a version of this dress was shown on the runway in a printed chiffon. These fabulous jersey ones are what were produced for the shops in addition to the printed chiffon ones. This collection was shown in Marrakech and Vogue's Sally Singer said the collection was "about luxury, globalism, and culture". The dress I have here is simpler then its runway counterpart but that just makes it that much more wearable to that many more events. I absolutely love this dress even more this second time around. It is gorgeous.
The dress is a made out of an inky black jersey that falls like a dream. It is heavy enough to feel like a high quality piece but still will move and flow as you walk and move. The front plunges into a low V just slightly crossing over itself where it meets the band of fabric at the waist. The tops of the triangle that cover the bust are twisted for detailing and then they fall into a deep V at the back. This leaves you bare on both the front and the back. There is a little jersey cord that runs across the back to hold the halter perfectly in place. The skirt falls to the floor at the front and there is a tremendous amount of fabric in the skirt. At the back the shoulders extend out to a caped panel of the same jersey. This also falls to the floor and is one long fabulous swath of jersey. At the sides the cape is curve back into itself and attached down the sides so that it is a part of the dress and not a separate piece. It catches the air and billows out around you as you walk. The effect this has once on and when you move is fantastic. It is fabulous on the body. It appears to have been worn very little if at all. Excellent condition
The jersey serves as the lining and it slips on to wear with an inner elastic at the waist. The elastic is what gives it its shape. If you needed more room or ease through the waist it would be very easy to extend it so that someone with a larger frame could wear it since the rest if the dress is really loose and easy. Tagged a FR38, UK10, IT42, US6
Bust: no true side seams but each triangle will cover 7-10" across
Waist: 14-16" flat across from side seam to side seam
Hips: open
Bodice: 16" from top of bodice to waist
Skirt: 46" from waist to hem

I Have a Question
The twin of this dress walked the runway as Look 38 for the 2018 resort season. The show was held in the remote Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space Preserve in Calabasas, California. The show was star packed with Rihanna, Charlize Theron and Solange Knowles there alongside the fashion pack. The inspiration for the show came from the archives and Chiuri said 'she went to the archives, where she came across the house founder’s Lascaux collection of 1951, inspired by the ancient cave paintings discovered in southwestern France a decade earlier.' This dress to me also harkened back to the earlier Galliano era and the times that he did knits in a similar colurway. It was a favorite of the street style crowd and it is a gorgeous little creation. I believe that I read at the time these were all hand knit.
The dress is easy to wear and makes a huge visual impact that I love. It is made of a knit virgin wool that is light and feels fantastic once on the body. I love the horizontal stripes of colour that were meant to depict desert sunsets. The weave is loose and open so that you will see either your bare skin underneath or whatever you decide to wear underneath it. It is cut to skim over the body. The neckline is a wide boat neck and then it travels down over the bust, waist and hips, opening up to be quite flared as it reaches the hem. You can see in the reference video that this flare allows the dress to kick out around you when you move. The sleeves are cut to just above the elbow and they are finished with hand knotted yarn tassels in black. These circle the cuffs for pretty detail. These same hand-tied tassels are also set all the way around the hem for added movement there as well. It is just gorgeous. It appears to have been worn very little if at all. Excellent condition
Unlined and slips over the head to wear with no closures. It looks to have been worn very little if at all. Tagged a US4, GB8, FR36, IT40. The knit has considerable stretch. I have put the comfortable range of measurements lying flat and there may be a little bit of room beyond that once on the actual body

Incredible 1969-1972 Christian Dior by Marc Bohan Demi-Couture Numbered Silk Chiffon Burgundy Dress
I Have a Question
This exceptional dress is by Marc Bohan for Christian Dior and it is a wonderful example of his work during this time period. This best matches the work that he was doing from about 1969 to 1972 when he was doing these wonderful printed chiffon dresses. We found similar ones to this with variations on the print that this dress has and I have included them so that you can see how perfectly this will drape and fall on the body. I have had a dress with a similar print to this on the shop in the past from Fall 1970 which makes me even more certain that this one falls into that time period. It is a very easy and comfortable dress to wear but it also drop dead gorgeous. I feel that it perfectly represents this time period. His work was integral to the label's development over the decades that he headed the atelier and this is a stunning example of his vision. Beyond that it is just an extraordinarily beautiful dress. I have had this ion my archives for a long time and it is a beautiful piece.
This dress is incredible. I love this version even more then the ones we found for reference. The cut is extraordinary and those sleeves are pure magic. The dress is super light and very easy to wear. The outer layer of it is a fine silk chiffon that has an abstract dot print that covers the entire dress. The neckline is set high and is softly gathered to wrap around the neck. Under that the bodice is meant to skim over you to the seam that is set under the bust for a slight empire feel. It fall loose and easy over the natural waist and the skirt billows out from under that to the floor. It is lined through the body of the dress in a solid coloured burgundy silk to feel like heaven on the body. The sleeves are incredible. They are set into the shoulder with slight gathers along the upper shoulder for a subtle but very pretty detail. They are the full width from the should to that seam under the bust and this gives them incredible movement and drape over the arm. It is interesting to look at the dress from the interior because the inner bodice is almost like a bib shape and then the sleeves come out from the sides of that. Once on the body the entire dress has this stunning movement and yet feels minimalist and elegant. The fabric is so light that it will move with your slightest movement. I love the detailing of that wide band of the solid coloured chiffon that finishes each sleeve and the hem. It is very easy to wear but packs a tremendous amount of style with the that print combined with the lightness of the fabric and that cut. The tag is numbered and the dress made to demi-couture standards. It appears to have been worn very little if at all. Excellent condition
The dress is fully lined through the body in a deep burgundy silk chiffon. It closes with a back zipper. It appears to have been worn very little if at all. The tag is numbered and there is an additional hand numbered tag along an interior seam. Hand finishes throughout

Rare Pre-Fall 2011 Christian Dior by John Galliano Mini Dress Backless Plunge Mini Dress
I Have a Question
This is an incredible dress that is the twin of the dress that was Look 5 from the Christian Dior Pre-Fall 2011 collection. This collection was shot as a lookbook which gives you an amazing glimpse into his styling process. At the time Dior said this of John's collection: ”Dior’s Fall ready-to-wear collection takes its inspiration from the legendary love affair between Mrs. Wallis Simpson and Edward VIII. This was one of the best pieces of the collection and I love having the photo reference from that lookbook so that you can see just how creative it can go styling wise. This was John's second last collection for the house before being dismissed and his last where he was present for its presentation.
The dress is a play on a flapper dress with a soft tartan inspired check blown up to be oversized and then softened with more pastel coloured version of red and blue. It is printed on a silk chiffon to further soften the feel of the print and give it a romantic vintage feel. The dress has the same long lines as a flapper dress but with a far more sexual twist. It can be worn longer and more straight on the body or you can hike it up to be super short and have that incredible top blouse over as I have done in the majority of these shots. The front is plunged right to the waist and then crossed over itself at the base where it meets the seam. I photoed one front, side and back shot with the dress fully extended down so you can see the full lines of it. The triangles of the two bust pieces extend up and around the neck where it ties into place leaving the tie to trail down your back. The back is left completely bare and it is scooped open right to the waist where is blouses out slightly. It is meant to convey the decadence and abandonment of the twenties with the feeling that with the slightest movement you will fall out of the dress. Yet it has a genius cut so that you are covered. A band of silk gathers and wraps around you at the top of the hip and this is what allows you to pull the dress higher or lower on your hips. The skirt falls under that in a flaring flirty bit of fabric that has tremendous movement. I love that he still worked in his signature tightly spaced silk covered buttons down one side and how there is a little bow at the top of the skirt on each hip. These little details are always what makes a Galliano designed piece that much more special. The last detail is the green and red lace that edges the dress. It has been stiffened and has deliberate raw edges to further play on that feel of the dress being a piece from the past. It is laid out over a band of ivory velvet and this last little touch ties everything perfectly together. It appears to have been worn very little if at all. Excellent condition with a minor note below
Fully lined in a fine pink-salmon coloured silk. It closes with the buttons down the side and ties around the back of the neck. At some point someone added a snap under the front where it crosses to make it a little more secure. I have left it but it could easily be removed if you wished. I see a bit of residue on the lining of one halter where a double sided tape was used. Tagged a Dior F 36, GB 8, IT 40, US 4. Note that this was very difficult to measure and depending on where you want the band to sit it should fit a range of sizes
Bust: no true side seam and each halter will easily cover a full range of cup sizes
Waist/top of hip at seam: 17" flat across from side seam to side seam and expanding to 17.5 at the bottom seam of the band
Bodice: to approx 21" from top of bodice to top seam of the waist/top of hip
Band: 4"
Skirt: 14" from waist to longest points of the hem

Exceptional Early 1960s Christian Dior by Marc Bohan Pink & White Silk Twill Dress Set
I Have a Question
This is an incredible set that dates to the time period when Marc Bohan was head of the Christian Dior atelier. It is a beautiful and early example of the work being produced by Christian Dior in this time period. This is from the Christian Dior-London label and it was considered to be demi-couture from this time period of Dior's history. Pieces with this label where made for the London based Dior shops and the designs were based on the Paris collections. They were produced with many of the same high standard finishes that the Haute Couture pieces incorporated. The line was overseen by John Langberg who was the Artistic Director of Christian Dior London. Langberg would tweak the Paris looks of the house to meet the needs of Dior's London clients. All under the eye and approval of Mr. Bohan. It is exceptional and an excellent investment piece as well. Dior prices continue to skyrocket and finding early and stunning examples like and in this condition is getting harder and harder to do.
This suit is exceptional. It is actually two pieces. A skirt that has an attached upper body lining and then a top that zippers into place over that. The inner part of the dress has the skirt attached and suspended from a sleeveless inner top made out of an early silky rayon lining. This is a technique that you no longer see done because of the extra fabric it uses and the longer zipper requirements, both of which add to production cost and time. But this was the proper way to have a skirt hang perfectly during this time period and be the most comfortable for the wearer. The top just skims over you and then the skirt is cut in a sleek little flare that skims over the hips and flares out with hidden flat inverted pleats at each side for volume. The actual width around the bottom hem stops just short of a full circle skirt. This is all achieved by the cut because there is no pleat work done around the waist. This would have taken a tremendous amount of fabric to achieve and wouldn't be done in modern production. Around the waist the silk lies flat and neat. It is very flattering once on the body. When you stand still the skirt lays flat and smooth but when you move you get an incredible burst of movement and volume. Over that goes the little top that closes at the back with a zipper. It is cut to perfectly fall just over where the skirt underneath begins. It is cut with the slightest of curving in at the waist. It is beautifully constructed and it is cut to fit and flatter the body. The shoulders are soft and the sleeves are capped and simple. The neckline is set in a wide cut scoop. A large bow has been set off to one side at the back and partially snaps over the zipper. At the front it is gathered in slightly towards the middle and there is a little strip of fabric at the center for detailing. The fabric is a very high end silk twill dyed to a beautiful bright fuchsia pink. A white design is woven through the silk and it is stunning to see in person. It is chic and elegant yet still feels glamorous because of that stunning colour and fabric. Excellent condition with a note below
Both pieces are fully lined in an ivory silky rayon. The top zips to close at the back and the skirt with its attached lining also zippers to close. A bow snaps into place over the zipper of the top. There is some minor shattering of the inner lining of the top under the arms but they are clean and fresh otherwise and the lining is very stable. Please see the final shot after the label

Modern Sizing Equivalent: XS-MED
Item# DD4036
