1980s Vicky Tiel Couture Fitted Metallic Net Dress w Extensive Black Sequin Detailing
Vicky Tiel was backed by Elizabeth Taylor as a young designer after working on the costume for 'Whats New Pussycat'. After a stint with a partner she launched her self named label in Paris in 1970. She as one of the very early boutique owner/designer that offered a ready-to-wear option in Paris. That said, her clothes often walk a fine line between ready-to-wear and couture in terms of their construction and techniques used. By the mid to late seventies her style had developed into the ultra sexy and feminine clothing that she is now known best for. By the eighties and into the nineties, she had a cult celebrity following. This is a stunning example of her work.
The base of the dress is made out of a fine gold metallic lace netting. This is then backed in a deep gunmetal silk. The metallic lace over the silk gives the dress a subtle glimmer from top to bottom. Onto this are black sequins that are hand applied and hand placed in clusters to follow the design in the netting. This layer construction of the fabric gives the dress texture and depth. Once on the body it really feels like it comes to life as the light catches the various parts of the dress. The dress is surprisingly light in weight because of the netting and silk combination. It is cut in that classic Vicky Tiel bombshell lines. The bodice is fitted and the neckline is curved into a sweetheart ashes that plunges quite low. At the back it is set into a low. V. The bodice is boned and shaped inside for support. The sleeves are unlined and long so you get a play on the transparency of the fabric down the arm. The skirt is wrapped and attached around the waist. It is gathered high along one side and there is a high slit under that exposing a ton of leg. The curve wraps around and back with the can hem sitting longer then at the front. Excellent condition
Fully lined in a deep gunmetal grey silk, with the sleeves left unlined. It closes with a back painted metal zipper. Lightly boned through the bodice.
