1966-69 Couture Hanae Mori Set As Seen at The Met
The twin of this ensemble by Hanae Mori is currently on exhibit in Gallery 231 showcasing Japanese art. The Met has this dated as being from the collection between 1966-1969. Ours is also of museum quality and is an amazing interpretation of the Kimono by Mori. This is everything you look for in a Hanae piece. It has her spectacular custom design, screened onto the three pieces pf feather light silk chiffon that make up the set. The top has huge frog knots down the front and is loose and easy in cut, mimicking the box shape of its kimono counter part. Each "sleeve" is a long loose panel of silk chiffon that is set at the top of the shoulder only and then flows down scarf like to suggest the long sleeves of the kimono but in an entirely different manner. The bottoms are actually wide legged pants that have a flat fit around the waist and flow to the floor in wide expanses of fabric. I love how the silk chiffon is layered over inner silk pant lets so you get a fabulous print on print effect. It has its original silk chiffon sash that can be worn at the neck. to give extra shape at the waist or wrapped as a head scarf! Excellent condition
The top and pants are fully lined in a soft cafe au lait silk. The pants close with a painted metal zipper on the interior silk and little fabric covered snaps close the silk chiffon layer over this. The top closes with the frog knots and and hook & eye. Hand rolled edges to the chiffon and hand finishes throughout. There is one small watermark that has darkened the fabric on the front - please super-size to see. Note that the scarf has some small tears near the middle seam - you could redo where the seam meets if this bothers you but I have chose to leave this its full original length with original seaming. You don't see this small flaw when its tied.
