Rare Late 1960s Custom Yves Saint Laurent Suit
This suit bears one of the early Saint Laurent Rive gauche labels and also has a hand written tag ion the pants - most likely denoting it as a custom order. Something appropriate for those early years of the boutiques opening. It is classic Yves Saint Laurent and its simple appearance belies the masterful cut and tailoring that lies behind it. The pants are cut long and straight and are supermodel leg worthy in length - the client who originally ordered this would have been tall and lean. They are flat fronted with a slash pocket on each hip and front zip. The jacket is tailored with a sleek, fitted cut and notched collar. Three pockets are top set on the front. The fabric has enough weight that it holds it sculptural shape well. I love the finish of gold toned metal buttons on the front and each sleeve. It is a suit that is perhaps unremarkable on the hanger but once on transforms the wearer into a tall and chic Saint Laurent legend. His suits transformed woman's wear and this particular one is a rare and wonderful early example of why. Excellent, museum quality condition.
The jacket is lined in a fine grade deep blue silk . It closes with the gold toned metal buttons at the front. Each cuff has three buttons and the buttons holes are finished but decorative only. The pants are unlined and zipper and button at the front. Pockets at each hip and three pockets on the jacket. A hand written tag on the back of the pant tag. The fabric is a deep blue wool. Super size the label shots to see texture and finish of the fabric.
Note that the suit photos as black but is a deep navy in person.
