Exceptional 1960s Josefa Mexico Pink Pintuck & Ribbon Cotton Caftan Dress

I love Josefa caftans and have covered the history of the label a couple of times in my instagram. They are like owning a piece of wearable art. Every single one of them was entirely hand made and detailed. They were made in Mexico in the late sixties to early seventies and were the epitome of Bohemian chic in their day. They are easy to wear pieces that can go from the beach, to exploring far off markets, to being worn as an evening piece depending on how you style them. I have had versions of this ribbon caftan one before and I am always happy to find another. This is one of my favorite designs out of all of her work

This is one of my absolute favourites out of all the pieces I have ever seen by this label and it is a wonderful example of her work. The cotton is crisp and fresh feeling. This one is in a gorgeous combination of pink, coral and a muted yellow. It photoed quite vivid but in person it has a more natural feel to it and the colours are still bright but even better. The design is based on a classic caftan. It falls from the shoulders and then falls on an open block of fabric until it gets the hem where it curves down and around. I shot the caftan laid out flat so that you can see. It is cut to sit very loose and easy over the body so it is incredibly easy to wear. There is an opening on each side for your arms to slip through. The seam under that is closed and then it opens again under the hips so that you see a touch of leg when you move. Running over the the front of the dress are strands of pink ribbon. Each one has been hand sewn into place in rows running from under the bodice and then their ends are left loose. When you move they move and create the most fabulous effect. Above the ribbons the front has been pin-tucked and a pink cord sits at the notched neckline. The back is finished in the same way and then ribbon is sewn to detail just under the arm opening. It simply slips on to wear and is fabulous. Excellent condition with a minor note below

Unlined and slips on to wear. I see a couple of very small spots. One on the edge of the sleeve and then under the ribbons. Please see the photos after the label shot. They are so minor they have zero impact. There are some natural variations on the colour of the cotton here and there. The colours in person as a little less vibrant than how they photoed. It is even better in person. The very open cut should fit just about any frame

The caftan is 54" flat across from side to side at its widest point. It is 58" long from neck to hem
