Rare 1965 Courreges for Samuel Robert Special Collaboration Muted Metallic Gold Jacket Coat

This coat represents an unusual little piece of fashion history. In 1965 Andre Courreges designed a line of pieces for Samuel Robert. For whatever reason this collaboration only lasted that one single year which makes pieces from it extremely rare. When researching this we found a picture of Jean Shrimpton wearing a suit with a similar front double button cut that was also made for this line. I love finding these unusual little pieces of history and it is fabulous.

It's made out of a muted gold brocade that is has a stitched woven design through it that makes the amazing pattern that you see. Where it's not stitched the fabric creates almost a slightly puffed 3-D effect and the colour is a deeper muted gold. This is what creates that fantastic pattern that covers the entire coat. In person you get more of a sense of a muted flat gold feel to it then you do in the photos. The cut of the coat is classic. It has sleeves to just below the elbows and there is a strap and button that wraps around each cuff. The collar is small and neat. The coat wraps and buttons with a double row buttons down the front. At the back you have a strap that goes across the small of the back with two more buttons to hold it in place. A panel of fabric begins just below the button and it runs down to the hem. The overall feel of it is kind of like a little mod trench coat. It has a little side pockets on each hip and we took a photo of it laying flat so you can see how it flares out slightly into an A-line. The coat has a bit of weight to it so that once it is on it holds the shape but it is not so heavy that it feels cumbersome. This is a fantastic coat that represents a very known piece of Cardin history. Excellent condition.

Fully lined in a camel coloured jersey. It buttons to close at the front and there are pockets on each hip. Hand finishes throughout. I see a tiny repair and some small grazes to the lining and some minor wear along the edges. I'm being pretty picky though.

Please review all measurements carefully. More often than not, vintage garments do not fit any size category exactly. If in doubt, measure a garment of your own that fits and is a similar cut and compare it's measurements to the listed measurements below.
