Fabulous 1930s Black Bias Cut Silk Crepe Dress w Unusual Rhinestone & Beaded Applique

I am so excited to bring you the second part of our 1930s capsule. This is one of a dozen dresses from a single owner collection of beautiful 1930s dresses. Her collection was lovingly sourced over decades and she has decided that it is time let them back out into the world for others to enjoy. Outstanding designs from this era are increasingly hard to find. Her collection represents some of the best of the era that I have seen in a very long time. Most are in excellent condition and the few included in the capsule that do have some flaws are such outstanding designs that I feel there is still room for someone to love them and wear them as they are, or perhaps to put in the additional work to repair them. This is just a tiny sampling of her overall collection and I hope to have more of these capsules for you in the future.

This dress is absolutely drop dead stunning. It is made out of a black crepe and is completely cut on the bias. To put it on, it simply slips on. There is a tiny little detail row of buttons just under the low back that are mainly decorative in nature but add to the prettiness of the dress. Once on, it drapes and molds to the body in a way that is fantastic. My photos do not come close to doing it justice. It is a dress that has to be on the body to come to life. The upper bodice is cut with some volume and blouses out below the wide cut neckline. There is an angled seam that sits under the bust and the fabric gathers slightly along that seam. The sleeves come directly out from the base of that seam and they are extremely wide at the upper shoulder and then narrow down to fit the arm to the wrist. There is a little gathered area near each elbow so it can bend. The sleeves end in little pointed angles and there is a row of tightly spaced black crepe buttons to close each wrist. Under the bodice it skims over the waist and hips and then flares out as it nears the hem. The bias cut molds the dress to the body and makes it incredibly comfortable to wear. What sets this one apart is the incredible detail that circles around the base of each arm on the bodice. There is a panel of applique that runs down the front, under the base of the arm and then all the way up the back and over the shoulder on each side. Both are detailed with thousands of tiny faux pearls, glass seed beads and tiny glass rhinestones. It gives it this Avante Garde edgy feel that I love. It is incredible. Excellent condition

Unlined and slips ahead to wear. There is a decorative row of buttons at the small of the back. A row of buttons on each cuff. Hand finished throughout and the appliques panels are hand applied. The bias cut should allow it to fit a range of sizes.

Length: 57.5" from top of shoulder to front hem, 59.5" to the back hem

  • items less then $500, or that are on sale, require a 50% deposit with the final payment due in two weeks from the date of deposit
