Fabulous 1980s Bill Blass One Shoulder Black Crepe & Taffeta Puff Sleeve Dress

Bill Blass launched his label in 1970 when he bought out the Maurice Rentner label and re-launched it under his own name. Blass was arguably one of the most famous of  the American designers. His forte was the ability to mix simple styles with luxurious materials and his evening wear in particular seemed to have a way of flattering the wearer. He knew how to walk that line perfectly. This is a gorgeous example of his work. It is from one of his secondary lines that was done to appeal to a broader audience. It is simpler in execution that his main line would have been but in this case that works in its favour. It is a seriously good dress.

This is a stunning dress and so easy to wear. It is made out of a black wool crepe that is very light in weight and then that spectacular sleeve is done in a black taffeta. The dress is cut to skim over the bodice and the neckline dips down on one side to leave your other shoulder and arm completely bare. On the side with the sleeve it is gathered at the top of the shoulder and then the sleeve poufs out from there ending with an elastic so that is is super comfortable on the arm. The sleeve has a ton of volume and inside there is added fabric around the inner top of the shoulder to help it hold its shape. I love it. The rest of the dress falls from there is a straight column with a slit up one side. This allows you the room to walk and also lets a flash of leg show. The waist is not seamed and if you wanted more shape you could add a belt or ribbon. It is just an amazing simple and easy dress to wear with tons of impact. It appear to have never been worn or worn very little. Excellent condition.

Unlined and closes with a hidden set side zipper. Elastic on the one sleeve. Tagged a vintage 8. It even has a little tag along the inside neckline that tells you which side is the back.
