Teens/Early 1920s Velvet Flapper Coat

Remarkable early teens coat cut like a cross between a man's great coat, a bathrobe (serious - it really reminds me of one in the way it is cut) and yet it has edgy details - like this insanely wide sleeves and the slouchy jeweled belt. Its in really good shape for its age - not immaculate but the patina that shows is earned from being worn with love and the natural aging rather then damaged flaws. The exterior is a glossy black sealskin velvet that is made to looked ribbed by the way the pile has been laid out. It gives it this fantastic mannish pinstripe look. The cut is over-sized as was typical of the period. It have it listed as a med - large but really a smaller girl could have (and may have worn this back then) The sleeves are cuffed and very wide at the bottom - the cut is long and tented and it crosses and closes to one side - also typical of the period. A fantastic belt set with a rhinestone and jet black clasp go across this. It is lined in black silk that is still sound. I think its fantastic and a killer design!

Shoulders: no defined seam
Bust: 19" from side seam to side seam
Waist: 22" from side seam to side seam
Hips: open
Bodice: 18" from shoulder to low waist seam
Skirt length: 28" from low waist seam to bottom hem
Sleeves: approx. 21" from shoulder to longest point

The coat is fully lined and closes with a series of button snaps in the front, along with a belt at the waist. Some of the velvet has flattened along the loop that goes around the button and on the button, and has browned a tad in color. The exterior is otherwise remarkably sound and in great shape. There is the teeniest of this around the edges of the cuffs as well. There is one very old patch done near the waist inside- it looks almost the same age as the coat and a few seams have stretched - also inside. The silk is just starting to go near the seam under one arm - sent as is. I had it cleaned and it stood up with no problems.

Note that antique and twenties pieces are final sale. They will be packed exceedingly well and we only sell pieces that will stand up to the stress of shipping, however, having pieces potentially shipped multiple times through multiple customs and countries is too hard on garments that are historically important and deserve to be treated with love and care. Please purchase accordingly.
