Rare 1960s Pierre Cardin Couture Tunic and Hot Pant with Grommets
Similar pieces with this grommet detailing are held in the Goldstein Museum of Design and both have a date range attributed to them. I believe this to be from the earlier part of the 1960s rather then the later. I have never seen a full set like this before and the bright yellow color of the two pieces make it even more fabulous and collectible. This is two pieces - a tunic, or mini dress if you are very brave, and a pair of shorts that sit underneath the tunic to keep it from being scandalous. Both pieces are made out of a textured silk linen mix that is an almost acid yellow in color. The shorts are simple in cut with sleek fit. Over this goes that wonderful tunic that has those huge gold colored grommets running down the neckline and around the collar. Each is open so you get a glimpse of skin through the center holes. The neckline is slit very deep and a corresponding slit runs up the center front seam at the hem. I love the mod feeling pockets that sit on each hip. They are the perfect finish to this spectacular set. Excellent, museum quality condition.
Both pieces are fully lined in a yellow silk. Each closes at the back with a painted metal zipper. Note that the grommets do show patina and wear but this is a natural occurrence on a piece of this age. I do not consider this to detract from the ensemble. Note the color is more lemon in tone then how it photoed.
